  1. It’s been nine years since Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding last teamed up for a new song. The two haven’t worked together since his 2014 album, Motion, in which the two created one of his biggest hits, “Outside.” She also featured on his 2012 album, 18 Months, on “I Need Your Love.” Earlier this year, the two shared they were back in the studio, and have been offering fans small teasers of their new song, little by little. Last week, Calvin uploaded a full-HQ, one-minute teaser of their new song, “Miracle,” and it’s bringing back all of the feels. From the preview, it feels like Ellie is hitting a bit of a higher register in “Miracle” than in their past collaborations. The beat also has early Euro influences á la “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” or “Better Off Alone.” No official release date is available yet, but we’re hoping to hear this one in an official capacity very soon! 2. Six months ago, Lost Lands welcomed fans back to Legend Valley for another year filled with dinosaurs and bass. Among the many acts performing over the weekend, one of the most unique bookings and sets came from French producer/DJ Madeon. Typically, his sets are far more in the realm of pop relative to heavy bass, but he clearly understood the assignment and came equipped with plenty of intense heaters. Fan recordings have been available since shortly after last year’s festival, but Lost Lands just uploaded the official live stream footage from the set to their YouTube. Being able to enjoy the high-quality recording and audio is infinitely more enjoyable now, whether for those who were there and want to relive the experience or those who missed it altogether. At time of publishing, the set is still currently being premiered on YouTube, so you can’t skip ahead to the end just yet. But the full set will eventually be available. Catch up below! 4. For artists matphilly and SUBshockers, music goes way beyond the spectrum of sound. For these talented producers, it is a channel for reflection, therapy, and emotion. This is why these friends have come together for AMP EP The project is centered around matphilly’s brother who tragically passed away in July 2020. AMP EP is designed to commemorate his life and show the world what an amazing person he was. While AMP is matphilly’s late brother’s initials, the EP resembles his legacy while also touching the heartstrings with thoughtful, genre-bending bass driven tunes. Taking listeners on a sentimental journey, each song in AMP EP offers new soundscapes and storytelling. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, offering reflective moments along with thundering drops to get entirely lost in the music. It’s a beautiful tribute to matphilly’s brother and an EP that is sure to keep it’s appeal for many years to come. “My brother was an important part of my life and losing him out of nowhere really changed the course of my life and mental health. So much so that I was going to quit music but I know he would want me to keep going, so to pay tribute to him, I chose my closest friends in SUBshockers. He knew my brother as well and we channeled our energy to pay tribute to his life and legacy. This is something I want the world to see who never met my brother and how important he was to so many people. He’s missed dearly and I hope we did him justice in this project.” – matphilly Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 5. Following 13 successful years in the Swedish music industry, producer & artist Will Laroca continues to amaze us with his music. “Holy Ones,” was the debut single under this project, a stunning pop-driven EDM track with an inspirational and spiritual message, received high praise from critics & media outlets, fellow DJs, and music lovers alike. His sophomore single was an ode to his home, “Northern Lights.” Now, he’s back with this third single, an emotive one called “Learn To Love“. Inspired by Will’s own life and experiences, “Learn To Love,” serves up oriental influences with a theme of lost love. Yet again, Will shows just how talented he is in the studio, skillfully weaving melodies and sounds in a way that hits you right in the heart. “Some relations just aren’t meant to be, and even though it hurts, the best thing for everyone might be to let it go and move on, so you can learn to love again” – Will Laroca Listen below! Now, BINGEWATCH is serving another club heater with his new single “LA TO NY,” in celebration of his spring tour starting this month. It’s his biggest tour yet, even touching into Mexico, as BINGE prepares to take North America by storm with his electrifying tunes. “LA TO NY” was created with Binge’s mind boggling set up of analogue gear including a Moog grandmother, Vermona drum machine, and Juno polyphonic digital synthesizer. It’s clear to hear the analog influence in this infectious single, as he masterfully weaves crisp drum patterns and a groovy bass line for another gem in the Binge vault. “Your boy BINGE is back out on the road! Living the American dream traveling from ‘LA TO NY’ to show everyone all the new beats I’ve been working out. I have been blessed with a little extra time this winter to set up my studio and work with my hardware synth’s & drum machines! 7. Newly-minted producer Modapit is a project of contradictions. The enigmatic artist has emerged from the shadows of underground dance music, boasting a gothic, edgy streetwear look that contrasts their euphoric, swirling pop-electronic sounds. The art speaks for itself, and by removing the ‘ego’ of the artist, it’s easy to get fully immersed into Modapit’s disparate, fashion-forward multiverse. As they’re revving up towards their debut album, Modapit has today revealed the 2nd single, titled “Falling In Love”. It’s a sensory fueled explosion of dark house elements and gripping vocals that are impossible not to be captivated by. Filling out the rest of its composition with lush, nostalgic piano chords that transition into a second drop filled with blazing, extra-terrestrial synth lines, “Falling In Love” is simultaneously emotional, immersive, and pulsating with motion. Check it out below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: The Mysterious Modapit Reveals “Falling In Love,” the 2nd single off their forthcoming debut LP
  8. SoLonely started recording music in his bedroom when he was 17 years old, and the now 22-year-old singer/rapper/songwriter has amassed a whopping 70M+ global streams. Having dealt with loss and mental health, SoLonely uses music as an outlet to express himself. Providing a sense of self therapy, his hope is that his music to not helps himself, but more importantly, help others overcome their obstacles. Now, he’s back with his latest single, “It’s All In Your Head,” as he opens up further about self-doubt, mental wellbeing, and the power of self. Over a plucky yet still eerie ukulele-loop, SoLonely’s gentle vocals aid in delivering a mesmerizing topline. Traversing and blending genres like alternative R&B, emo-rap, lofi, cloud rap, trap, pop, and acoustic soul in this single, the result is truly fantastic and an experience not easily forgotten. “It’s a feeling of hopelessness and giving up, but then the uplifting part comes where I tell myself that it is all in my head. An up&down kind of mental state. I still battle with anxiety, maybe not on a day-to-day basis, and maybe not as bad as before, but it’s still there and I must remind myself from time to time that I can beat it. This song is for everyone who feels like that.” – SoLonely Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 9. Fresh off a stunning run with Skrillex and Four Tet that saw the trio take over Madison Square Garden a couple weekends ago, Fred again.. reimagines one of the fan favorite tracks from his latest album with some new voices and a fresh beat. “Mike (desert island duvet),” is a club-reworking of “Berwyn (all I got is you)” from Actual Life 3, now featuring a verse from The Streets’ Mike Skinner accompanied by original vocalist Dermot Kennedy. It’s the result of a blossoming friendship between Fred and Mike that kickstarted when he came out as a guest vocalist during Fred’s packed out set at All Points East in the summer of 2022. As two trailblazing artists of their respective generations, the resulting collaboration is a nostalgic spin on the original track that feels firmly plugged into the zeitgeist. Listen below. 10. We’re slowly inching forward toward the release of ILLENIUM’s fifth studio album, the self-titled ILLENIUM. Over the years, we’ve seen his brilliant album trilogy captivate fans across the world, culminating in “epilogue,” Fallen Embers, released in 2021. We’re now entering a new era of ILLENIUM, yet the Denver artist still wants there to be a certain level of nostalgia and familiarity with his new work for long-time fans. His new single out today, “Insanity” with American Teeth, carries a theme of self-sabotage within the lyrics. It’s a topic, by roundabout means, that ILLENIUM has revisited fairly often in his work. “Everything about this song just feels so anthemic to me,” ILLENIUM says of the latest tantalizing taste of his upcoming fifth album, ILLENIUM. “Elijah sounds absolutely epic and killed his performance on this record. It feels so nostalgic and I can’t get it out of my head.” American Teeth’s Elijah Noll is similarly proud of the song, which he describes as “a journey through the dangers of living life on the edge.” For him, it’s about “getting lost in a reckless lifestyle and the inevitable chaos that ensues when trying to navigate a relationship.” “Insanity” follows previously released album singles “From The Ashes,” “Luv Me A Little,” “Worst Day,” “Shivering,” and “All That Really Matters.” Listen below. 11. Guitarist/producer Phyphr is one of Denver’s most hotly-tipped talents, making waves with his electro-soul stylings and funky, electronic songwriting. Dedicated to inspiring his listeners, the artist has a DIY, self-produced ethos that’s intrinsic to his artistic expression and messaging. His own hard work and focus have led to a unique performance style that blends live guitar playing with immaculate electronic production – a vibrant mix that’s earned him opportunities to perform alongside acts like The Floozies, Daily Bread, Manic Focus, SoDown, and Maddy O’Neal. The dynamic maestro recently released his debut album, Catalyst – a genre-bending, full-length LP that’s brimming with raucous beats, textural grooves, and indelible hooks. It’s impossible not to fall in love with this LP, as Phyphr yet again proves why he’s one of the best in the game. His ear for sounds, samples, and melodies is simply remarkable. Each song flexes its own insatiable groove, packed with funky guitar licks and vibes to make you bounce. A few favorites on our end are “Still Turnin'” and “Down The Street”, but honestly you can’t go wrong with any of these tunes. “This is a sincere album that tells the story of a musician who left home in search of the life he dreams of. Featuring relatable songs about uncovering forgotten inspiration and coming to terms with artistic insecurities, this debut album is a prelude of what’s to come…“ – Phyphr Take a listen for yourself below! 12. ZHU released the first Musical Chairs Mixtape last July, featuring seven new tracks and collaborations with the likes of Elderbrook, Mr. Carmack, and more. Casual listeners can expect the release of Volume 2 on streaming services fairly soon, but fans who’ve subscribed to ZHU’s text list or Discord were apparently given the release early. A post on Reddit yesterday morning shares the Dropbox link for the mix, featuring a 23-minute mix of new music from the talented artist. As such, there’s still no official tracklist for the release so you’ll have to wait to see who’s featured or not. For now, check out the mix here — the link may not last long so get it while it’s hot. Photo via Joey Vitalari This article was first published on Your EDM. 13. DJ, producer, and artist Famba continues to impress us with his music. There’s no genre that can contain this burgeoning artist, as he’s now turns up the heat with his first release of 2023, “Estar Conmigo.” This sizzling Tech House banger is fueled by relentless driving beats and an ear worm of a vocal. Topped with inventive sound design and creative production choices, Famba yet again shows that he’s one of the finest producer in the game right now. Famba shares, “I got into making music because of my love for clubs and festivals. I realized that I wouldn’t be fulfilled until I started releasing music that would be played in those places.” Check it out below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 14. Music Tech caught up with Kaskade and deadmau5 recently ahead of their show at Printworks London. As the pair fought off jetlag and ribbed each other, the conversation eventually turned to the proliferation of AI and how it could affect the future of music. deadmau5 might be one of the better artists in dance music to give perspective on the evolution, sharp-tongued and never too shy to share his opinion. He’s also famously tech savvy, which becomes clear when you look back a few years at the tour of his home studio with Linus Tech Tips. And even that was six years ago, so we’re sure he’s made some upgrades since then. When it comes to AI, a large worry is that the technology will take jobs and expertise away from individuals who have devoted years of their life as a technology that learns from tens of thousands of people instantly per day becomes more and more adept at a variety of tasks. Others believe that the current narrow AI will never be able to fully replicate a human’s creativity, but an AI now is only as powerful as the prompt it’s given. As for deadmau5, he seems to feel pretty confident that even if AI were to start making full pop songs, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. “It’s pretty scary,” deadmau5 told Music Tech. “But it’s scary in the sense of how stupid music already is anyway, so it’s not that frightening. Like, ‘This thing can make a pop song!’ Have you heard a pop song? Great. Let it go. Unleash the beast, you know – holy shit would that ever open up the niche market for actual musicianship.” “[ChatGPT] is good. But it’s only as good as what it knows. It’s a huge training model, right? So take the collective stupidity of the world and make a robot fucking barf it out. It’s not gonna be that genius, but it’s gonna get you what you want.” We’re already seeing AI programs able to emulate vocals, and already we’re seeing some studios create entire visual sequences with the technology. But limitations and expertise will continue to differentiate human capabilities versus machine applications. At least, for now. 16. Space Laces is an undisputed titan in sound design and creativity, easily tackling bass music or house depending on his mood. Beyond his original productions, he brings a unique flair to all of his remixes, as well, injecting his iconic sound into whatever vessel he’s called upon to augment. For his first remix of 2023, he takes on the Odd Mob hit “LEFT TO RIGHT” that dropped last year, turning the viral house hit into a banging electro house heater. Check it out below! 17. Few artists still make the same kind of dubstep that was coming out around 2010-2014, whether that’s brostep or just “old” dubstep. And that’s okay — styles and tastes change, trends evolve. However, there’s a fair amount of fans who don’t vibe with the current iteration and still yearn for the sounds of yore. Deadbeats, for all intents and purposes, appears to be leading the charge of embracing and reviving that older sound, especially after signing the new EP from Emalkay, The Others, and Subscape. Today, they host the release of a new anonymous artist, GRAIL SOUNDS, whose goal is honoring the “holy grails” of dubstep, which is where the artist’s name was derived. When I first started listening to dubstep in the early 2010s, I quickly found Skream, Benga, Rusko, Caspa, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, Joker, and more who were pioneering their own unique take on the genre. Nowadays, it feels like the sound has become largely homogenized. GRAIL SOUNDS doesn’t reinvent the wheel. Nor do they claim to — the point of the project is to emulate and revive the older sounds. If you appreciate that sort of authenticity and purpose, and miss the old days of 140, you need to check out their debut single, “GULLY STRING,” out now via Deadbeats. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: New anonymous project GRAIL SOUNDS debuts on Deadbeats honoring the “holy grails” of dubstep
  18. Indie-dance duo Phantoms recently unveiled the deluxe edition of their 2022 album ‘This Can’t Be Everything’, via ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective imprint – and it’s a must listen. Fresh off of a 6-Week live headlining tour, the duo debuted the new album at 2022’s Life Is Beautiful. Preceding the release of ‘This Can’t Be Everything’, the Phantoms duo took a fresh new approach to their music following a serious period of persona and professional growth. It may be their best work yet. The Deluxe Edition of their sophomore album comes as a 2-disc release, with the second disc boasting a string of new music and fresh remixes of the album’s original tracks from top names in the space. Included is the dynamic, funk-fueled production “The Way You Groove”, as well as a driving remix of top album single “Firepit” ft. Big Wild by Dillistone. Other remixes that grace the second disc include contributions from Leo Islo, who remixed “Lay It All On Me”, Third Culture giving their take on “No Reason” as well as Fort Romeau’s reimagining of “Firepit” and Covex delivering a rendition of “Do You Want My Love.” It’s clear to see that this Deluxe Edition of ‘This Can’t Be Everything’ is a victory lap for the burgeoning indie-dance duo, who have a bright 2023 ahead as they maintain their momentum. 19. AFROJACK and Cesqueaux are back again with a brand new single, “Danger”. The two debuted the track during AFROJACK’s Ultra Miami set last year, and now, almost a year later, the track has been properly released. The two previously teamed up on “Drums” which was released under AFROJACK’s NLW alias, which seeks to bring his more club and festival based sounds to the forefront. Enlisting Dutch vocalist Kalibwoy for his dancehall style vocals, “Danger” is an undeniably energetic track. This time Cesqueaux takes the lead on production with Nick providing the assist. The drop is pure festival bliss, with blaring horns, rapid fire snares and fat synths. There’s even some trap horns in the breakdown after the drop. Here’s what all the involved parties had to say about “Danger.” “The most energetic song you’ll hear all day”. – Cesqeaux “Was great to work with my brother Cesqeaux again and I’m excited to share this heavy hitting collab” – AFROJACK “Most energetic track! EDM with a bit dancehall ‘fraaaaasss’” – Kalibwoy Check out the latest from Cesqueaux & AFROJACK presents NLW, “Danger” featuring Kalibwoy out now on Wall Recordings. 20. Audien is back with his first single of 2023, “Antidote.” Teaming up with London-based, classically trained musician turned electronic producer Codeko, and enlisting JT Roach on vocals, “Antidote” is classic Audien. Blissful progressive house synths, brilliant vocals and melodic piano before a euphoric drop. Like so many of Audien’s songs, “Antidote” is endearingly positive and upbeat. The lyrics are really blue-collar, we all live in tough times, let’s find peace and solace in those around us. An “Antidote” to the stress and pressure of real life. This is a song that should slide in seamlessly into Audien’s live sets. Here’s what everyone had to say about making the track. “’Antidote’ is my first record with Ed, [Codeko]. During the PHND tour, we played a lot of shows together and I truly realized how alike we were. We truly have the same ear for things and I think our heart is in the music similarly. JT was the absolute perfect singer for this as well. The song is about staying centered around commitment, being that person for someone you love. In many ways the music I’m making today is that commitment to myself. Staying true to what speaks to me.” – Audien “’Antidote’ was written when Audien and I were on his tour together towards the end of last year. Our music taste has always been pretty similar and so when he suggested we write something together, it couldn’t have gone much more smoothly. We worked on it traveling between shows in hotels & airports, and within a few days we were already playing it out live. A few weeks later JT tracked the vocals and it was finished!” – Codeko “The theme of ‘Antidote’ resonates with me as it speaks of being a source of peace in a world of chaos and toxicity, which many of us definitely can relate to. As many people find their peace alongside sports or hobbies, I found mine across my friends & colleagues who always were there when I needed them the most. Having a strong & supportive community in Los Angeles has helped me make it through the hard times and has become my ‘Antidote’ in my life.” – JT Roach Check out the latest from Audien & Codeko, “Antidote” featuring JT Roach, out now on Armada. 21. Noizu kicks off the new year with a fresh collaboration with Westend, “Push to Start.” They just played an exclusive b2b set at EDC Mexico this past weekend, despite having been on many of the same bills, “Push to Start” is the first official collab between the two artists. “Push to Start” begins like any other tech-house heater with the bassline and percussion slowly building in the background. “Push to Start” has the catchy vocal hook over the intro, however. The song gets really rave-y during the buildup with the short, groovy synths laying the foundation for the drop. It’s a high energy track while maintaining a sort of old-school/underground rave vibe to it. Again, the vocal sample and the brief synth notes cannot be understated. “Hyped about this release.” Noizu says “Westend is like a little brother to me, we’ve done loads of shows / festivals together and it made sense to come together on a track. ‘Push To Start’ is made for big crowds and high energy so Insomniac was the perfect home for it.” Check out the latest from Noizu & Westend “Push to Start,” out now on Insomniac. Make sure to check out Noizu on his upcoming North American tour. In addition to the new music and shows, Noizu will be dropping new flavors of his hot sauce brand aptly named Heaters Only – Created in Los Angeles, this hot sauce contains a flurry of fantastic pepper flavors that will get you up and grooving. 22. After nine years(!) Showtek and Ookay are back with their second official collab “BT1.” After first coming together back in 2014, on “Bouncer”, “BT1” sees the two artists join forces on a collab that perfectly captures where each has evolved over the years. A lot has changed in the music industry (and in the world) over the past decade. In 2014, Showtek was transitioning from hardstyle to big room festival hits. Ookay was starting to make waves in trap and dubstep. Fast forward to the present day, and Showtek have settled into a nice lane of more mature, radio friendly tracks that almost always resonate with a positive message. Ookay has evolved well past DJing as it is now common to see him take his live set on the road, where he plays more 80s inspired synth-pop sounds. The collaboration came about by chance in the midst of the pandemic when Showtek accidentally joined Ookay’s Instagram livestream and heard a snippet of what would eventually become “BT1.” Featuring those same nostalgic synths, a bright and bouncy melody, and a grooving bassline. “BT1” is the perfect blend of newer and classical elements. “BT1” is a track that is sure to brighten many a warm spring day.
