Matrino Joins Forces With Maciel For “Feel Like That” Featuring SIAS
Based in San Francisco, rising house talent Matrino has returned with a truly exciting house anthem, teaming up with one of Latin America’s most acclaimed dance music artists, Maciel, as well as Detroit-based singing duo SIAS. The result of this exciting combination of talents is titled “Feel Like That,” and – to no surprise – it’s already taking over the electronic music world with 50k streams in its first week and more than 250k streams to date. Out via exciting label Loud Memory, “Feel Like That” masterfully combines the respective styles of all three acts, and offers immersive and infectious vibes. A tune made both for the radio and the dancefloor, “Feel Like That” is driven by warm basslines, groovy drums and smooth atmospheres, while SIAS’ intimate vocals take the arrangement to the next level. Read our interview with Matrino below: You just released your single “Get It” via Loud Memory. Talk to us a bit about how the track came about. Get It was something I finished in early 2021, after releasing a few collaborations I wanted to release a high-energy dance track and Get It was sitting in my files and it made sense to release the track. I’m very happy with how the track has done! You’ve collaborated with Maciel two times so far, on “Feel Like That” and “Only One.” How did you two connect, and do you have any more exciting tunes with him in the works? Me and Maciel have known eachother for quite some time now and we worked on things in the past but we never released anything. It wasn’t until we started working on Only One that we noticed that we had very similar workflows and that led to us working on Feel Like That, our chemistry and taste has helped us a ton! We definitely have some more projects in the works, stayed tuned for something huge soon! What do you look for when sourcing the right people to collaborate with? I look for drive and vision. I look for people who are hungry to release something that is top-tier and someone who will sit down and stay locked in during production sessions but also, someone who has a strong desire to draw up a great marketing plan to make sure that the track performs well and reaches the masses. How did your love for music initially start? When did you decide to channel that love into music production? I have been around music my whole life, I was first exposed to dance music in 2015 and in 2016 I discovered artists such as Malaa, Tchami, and Julian Jordan to name a few. It was very natural for me to venture into dance music and grow my production skills, it wasn’t until 2020 that I decided what direction I wanted to take and the rest has fallen into place on its own. Where do you search for inspiration before sitting down to make music? I love to listen to live sets, SoundCloud/Mixcloud mixes and absorb what I hear to drive the direction that I want to take in that particular session. What would you be doing if you weren’t a music producer? I would probably be working my way up in talent management, I love the dance music culture and scene and would still find a way to be a part of it. If you were able to have the best singing voice in the world, or be able to play every instrument perfectly, what would you choose? I would definitely want to have the best singing voice! What are your plans for 2022? Do you have any exciting collaborations in the works? I have plans to continue to release new music both collaborations/singles! I also have some shows in the works so I’m super stoked about that! Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself in music 100%, I see myself touring and continuing to release music, I also see myself starting my own label, a dream of mine. This article was first published on Your EDM. Your EDM Premiere: Play Me Set to Intro Skellytn and Her Glitchy ‘Neurocomputer’
It’s not often that an artist who started out in dubstep/riddim in the US will do even better when they transition to drum & bass, but Skellytn proves the exception to this and many other bass music rules. Since her first release, “Blood,” in February 2021 on 40oz Cult, the LA-based genre-hopping glitch fanatic has been honing her craft with single releases on Reid Speed’s Play Me and Play Me Too imprints as well as on Space Yacht and an EP called Cybernetic Ritual on Drama Club Recordings. Now less than a year after the initial and already quite high-quality style tests, Skellytn’s got her craft honed, her sound tight and an epic album to show for it. Neurocomputer is due out on Play Me this Friday, February 11 and, true to its name, this LP has some of the most blistering neurofunk to come from the states, possibly ever. But it’s not just neuro; Skellytn has a knack for blending sublime melodies with heavy, glitchy mid lines and brain-scrambling syncopation. In fact, the first two teaser singles released thus far, “Dystopia” and “Voodoo,” could both easily be called “Brain Scramble” part I and II. So much glitch, so much syncopation, so little time. With a composition style that borders on classical and theatrical as evidenced by tracks like the ameny yet heavily sound-designed “Oracle Protocol” or the ready-for-Neosignal “Enigma,” digging deeper into Neurocomputer sees Skellytn still presenting a love for lots of styles. Heavy on the interstitial snares and phrase cut-throughs, the album still has some more minimal melodic tunes like “Separate Ways” and album closer “Singularity” that hearken back to her collab with Kayten on their “Fall” single last year. She’s also given a cheeky nod to her dubstep roots with the halftime “Disassociate.” It seems with all these styles that Neurocomputer is not only a cheeky futuristic-themed bass music romp, but a love letter from Skellytn to all the forms of bass music she’s loved and still loves. The track that balances and summarizes all the elements in Neurocomputer while still lighting up the dancefloor no end is “Neural Network.” It also happens to be our YEDM premiere today. The track starts out with a melodic sound design desert of an intro which lulls the listener into a false sense of peace before some of the fastest and most technical drum breakdowns D&B has ever seen drop into a grimy mid synth and increasingly syncopated and glitched out drum line which, rather than driving the track, sits on the mid line and, what else, serves to scramble the listener’s brain. It’s the best of Euro-quality neuro and big, stateside fuck off party vibes jammed into one track. “Neural Network” demonstrates just what Skellytn is capable of and warns that we haven’t seen anything yet. Play Me Records · Skellytn – Neural Network If any album has the ability to really connect to the UK and EU D&B sensibilities, it’s got to be Neurocomputer. If Skellytn keeps up this pace and quality, it’s only a matter of time before the Eatbrains and Blackouts of the world come calling. In the meantime, fans should get ready to hear this album and its lush, diverse tracks played on rigs across the rave landscape. Neurocomputer drops this Friday, February 11 on Play Me. ODESZA Returns After 4 Year Hiatus: “The Last Goodbye (feat. Bettye LaVette)”
Apart from their 2020 project with Golden Features, BRONSON, it’s been four years (and change) since ODESZA have released new music. Their 2017 album, A Moment Apart, spawned the largest tour of the duo’s career, visiting every corner of the globe and every major festival. But the work clearly took a toll on their creativity and they’ve been in hiatus since the conclusion of the tour in 2019. Today, they released their first new song since A Moment Apart, the beginning of their next album, “The Last Goodbye” featuring Bettye LaVette. The vocals were taken from LaVette’s 1965 release, which left an impression on the duo. On the track, ODESZA notes: “This song was born out of the concept of trying to bring these lasting, defining musical pieces like the 1965 release of ‘Let Me Down Easy’ by Bettye LaVette into a modern and contemporary electronic setting. The idea of bringing two worlds together, that at first seem distant, has always been something we’ve been drawn to. It was an absolute honor to be able to work with Bettye’s voice over the course of writing the track. She’s able to convey emotion with her vocal work unlike any other. To date, this has been one of the more fulfilling songs we’ve had the chance to work on as artists. We hope everyone who listens enjoys the track as much as we did making it.” There’s still plenty more to look forward to from ODESZA in 2022 so keep an eye out! Nicky Romero Teams Up with Low Blow for Groovy House EP See You On The Dancefloor
When you think of Nicky Romero, you probably think of festival tunes, melodic progressive sounds. But, Nicky’s latest release is straight out of left field, but that’s what makes it so, so good. Teaming up with Spanish producer Low Blow, they just dropped their two-track See You On the Dancefloor EP. Combining groovy house beats with some disco flourishes, See You on the Dancefloor will have you dancing in a way you never have to Nicky Romero. The title track really sets the tone; that vocal sample, the drum buildup, leading to the hi-hats and disco synths just gets you up out of your chair. Nicky’s dropped this one in his live sets, so this one is a pleasant surprise for fans. The second track, “Higher” is more a blend of tech-house and disco. It’s got a consistent groove, before the volume lowers and you get that tech-house build into a groovy drop, complete with horn synths. Armin van Buuren and Sam Gray Drop Uplifting Piano House Single “Human Touch”
Armin van Buuren is back with his first single of 2022, “Human Touch.” Armin teams up with rising English singer Sam Gray for an uplifting piano house tune that will have you yearning for the dancefloor and have you reaching out for that “Human Touch.” Despite the uplifting nature of the track, the song is about how without human interaction, we’re just not quite the same. Almost two years into the pandemic, who can’t relate to that sentiment. The production on the track is fairly minimal, some light synths and pads in the background allow Sam Gray’s soaring vocals to really shine. The chorus and drop feature some euphoric piano house and a groovy beat. Here’s what Armin and Sam had to say about this epic collab. “I love working with artists who bring a unique perspective to the table, and Sam Gray did just that as someone who’s rapidly becoming a vocal force to be reckoned with in the music industry. ‘Human Touch’ is a song I think lots of people can relate to and draw strength from. I hope it inspires everyone to reach out to one another and reassure them they’ll always have someone to turn to.” – Armin van Buuren “I woke up one morning really feeling the time it’s been since I’ve seen my family in the U.K. During the pandemic, we’ve all adjusted to Zoom sessions and FaceTime calls being our new normal. While I’m grateful for technology, it’s not and will never be the same as sitting in the same room or holding someone in your arms. We’re all just making the best of a terrible season. The isolation has been devastating both to witness and experience. I’m grateful that Armin heard my heart and helped make this record the very special song that it is. I don’t know a human that doesn’t relate.” – Sam Gray Check out the lyric video for Armin van Buuren & Sam Gray’s “Human Touch”, out now on Armada. This article was first published on Your EDM. Burko Debuts His Vocals on New Single “Here Before”
Burko has taken over the SoCal scene by storm with his uniquely dark-yet-melodic style of house and techno. Today, he showcases his vocal prowess by debuting his own vocal performance on his new track, “Here Before,” a driving melodic techno track. With “Here Before,” Burko solidifies his range of talents as one of the few house/techno producers who can deliver a stunning vocal performance. On “Here Before” Burko tells us: “When I wrote “Here Before” I was in my last bit of grad school, and had a lot of pressure from family to go into a more traditional line of work after graduation. I knew I needed to push myself and the Burko project harder if I was going to move into music full time after graduating, so I decided to do something with this song I had never done before, sing on my own track. Putting nerves aside of letting my singing voice be heard, I wrote these vocals around the theme of “staying the course.” The lyric in the song, “Don’t lose sight of why we’re here” is a reminder to myself not to lose sight of the dream of making music and touring after graduation, instead of a more traditional route. And the title, “Here Before,” refers to the place in my mind I sometimes end up at, when fear of the future sets in and I have to remind myself to stay the course.” Be on the look out as Burko continues to evolve with every new release. Chuwe Drops Super Fresh Remix of Daddy Yankee
Daddy Yankee’s Gasolina is a 2 decade old hit that still slaps like it did back in the day. It seems electronic solo artist Chuwe feels this way as well, he’s flipped the classic to make it his own and be fully ready for the clubs. “Gasolina (Chuwe Remix),” helps the vibe get buck-wild with it’s house-dominant approach which plucks samples from the original and mixes it with his style. The track nails a modern electronic feel with concepts of the original song. The aura is easy to put on repeat and would go great into any set that’s ready to ignite the night. This is far from Chuwe’s first release, the man has been around the block when it comes to making music, with many of his tracks gaining nice support through and through. Diplo, DJ Snake, Marshmello, Skrillex, Yellow Claw, Major Lazer, have all supported his music at one time or another, giving sign that this artist is headed in the right direction. I remember just being posted up inside my car, writing, in a Whole Foods parking lot (they always have free WiFi). I had a lot on my mind that day. I sent the vocals to Shöckface and he built all the production around them. Not many producers can do that well, but he’s a fuckin genius man. Your EDM Playlist: Six Tracks That Inspired Seba’s Newest Album, ‘Ingaro’
The Swedish atmospheric and production powerhouse known as Seba is also known for being a bit reclusive. The name of his label is Secret Operations, after all. That said, it’s sort of worked for his brand – not that he was necessarily thinking about it – because the subtle sound design and sometimes whisper quiet yet expertly crafted snares that typify Seba’s sound lend themselves to that sort of mystique. Either way, it’s rare to get a peek into an artist’s process and Seba just gave us a big look into Ingaro. The next chapter in Seba’s glorious legacy starts out exactly as fans would hope, with a goosebump-inducing atmospheric track called “How It Goes,” featuring vocalist Marina Samba and is the perfect intro to the album. Pairing his classic heart-rending synths and sound design with classic 90s style beats, whip snap snares and syncopation to die for. Ingaro, which dropped last Friday, January 21, is the most epic multi-track from Seba since, well…since the last one. With a sound as original as Seba’s many fans may think his ideas are completely organic but even the most cutting-edge artist takes inspiration for somewhere. D&B artists also often dance around the subject of who influenced them or give a general idea, but Seba’s different in that way too: his descriptions are very specific not only about what influenced Ingaro. Is he more aware of his influences than most artists? Probably not; most artists, especially in D&B, have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of all the sounds through the ages. So really that makes Seba more honest and clinical than many. For him, it’s just a fact, and if an artist is happy with their work, why not share who helped you along the way? Since he’s been so great about pinpointing these influences and since we know you’re all listening to Ingaro on repeat now, if you’re a tech head we recommend listening to the tracks named below on the album and the tracks Seba lists as influential and see if you can hear the homages. Even if you’re not a tech head, learning an artist’s process is always fascinating and because Seba’s got such a wide mental lexicon for music, we guarantee there will be at least one track on this list that many of you are hearing for the first time. Now, into the mind of Seba we go; he’s given a great map. Massive Attack – Unfinished sympathy It wasn’t intentional, and I wasn’t aware of the inspiration. One of my friends sat in the studio and listened to ”How It Goes” and said ”it’s like a modern version of ‘Unfinished Sympathy’.” Obviously I can’t say that is what we were aiming for, neither achieved. But I understand what he means, with the smooth voice of Marina Samba and the attitude of the track. Maybe ”Unfinished Sympathy” was ringing in the back of my head while writing this track? One thing is for sure. I put some work in to making Marina sound a bit 90s rave-vocal. Moderat – Rusty Nails Me and Björn (Berglund) sort of used this as a model when we started sketching on ”Diamonds” (feat Samuel Lancine) some 13 years ago. You can hear it in the rhythm in the beginning of our track. When I dug this one up for the album, I realized that we were too stuck on sounding like Moderat but still tried to stay away from that sound. The solution was to revamp the breaks and the drums, et voila! Etapp Kyle – Aurora This track hasn’t really inspired me to write any particular track on the album, but has contributed to the overall sound of a few tracks. I listen to a lot of techno and that can be reflected in my music. On Ingaro, the tracks that have a clear techno influence are ”Horsepower,” ”Eztli” and ”All too much. I think its important to listen to a lot of different genres of music and get inspired to include that in the genre that I’m working with. Spirit – Life Goes On This one is a bit obvious. Some people have already told me that ”Sequence 5” sounds like ”Life Goes On” by Spirit. I am aware of that. I don’t like copying other people’s sound, even if that is inevitable sometimes. This track came to existence while I was playing around with a new piece of analog hardware in the studio. I really liked the Kraftwerk type of sound that I got out of the machine, but soon realized it sounded like a track that I’ve been playing a lot for many years. Nevertheless, I decided to finish the track and it fit well into my album. Skee Mask – Shred 08 Again, here is an artist that hasn’t inspired any particular track on the album, but an artist that I’ve listened to a lot while writing the album. Skee Mask’s music is just electronic versatile. It’s not techno, dubstep, ambient or drum & bass. It’s all of those fused together in a new form of music. I don’t think ”Horsepower” would have turned out the way it did if I hadn’t been listening to Skee Mask. Source Direct – The Cult Source Direct left a huge imprint in the drum & bass scene. I’ve taken so much inspiration from many of their tracks. This time i wanted to create this kind of vibe but with some lighter drums, and the result is ”Thoughts Run Free.” I felt the track was a bit naked without a vocal. Instead of finding a sample I decided to see with Blackeye if he was up do doing another track with me. The result was very satisfying. Ingaro is out now and can be streamed or purchased on multiple platforms by clicking here. This article was first published on Your EDM. Black Tiger Sex Machine’s 3rd LP “Once Upon A Time In Cyberworld” Offers New Tales From Their Cyberpunk Universe
The time has come for the next chapter of Black Tiger Sex Machine’s ever-expanding dystopian world. After a massive year that saw the Montreal trio headline Red Rocks, play festivals like Lost Lands, Bass Canyon and more, BTSM are kicking off 2022 on January 28th with their highly anticipated 3rd album, Once Upon A Time In Cyberworld. “Our post-apocalyptic universe is a bleak place where the world is crumbling. In some ways the hardships mirror what we’ve all gone through in the past couple years in real life. With this album we wanted to write from that perspective of coming in and out of hard times while still having some fight and hope left in us.” – BTSM Coming in at 12 tracks, Once Upon A Time In Cyberworld features many familiar faces including Kai Wachi, YOOKiE, Macntaj, ATLiens, as well as new collaborators like YMIR, WODD, Wasiu and the guitarist/vocalist Ryan Perdz of TikTok fame. Previously released hit singles like “Cheatcode” and “Wild Kids” are included on the LP as well. Songs like the hybrid hip-hop anthem “Trailblazer” and the genre-bending Squid Game inspired “Front Man” are just some of the newer cuts on the album that showcase the next evolution of BTSM’s sound. “It was important to us that we worked with a lot of vocalists on the album, more than ever before, as we wanted to tell these stories from unique viewpoints and be more explicit about the world-building with thoughts and emotions that didn’t just stem from our production. It was a blast working with everyone and being able to bring them into our world and add depth as characters made this a special project.” Check out the full album below!
