Waxman (CA) Drops Soothing ‘Home’ EP Via Where The Heart Is Records + Interview
Waxman (CA) has turned out to be a frequent face on David Hohme’s beautiful ‘Where The Heart Is’ imprint, consistently delivering dreamy tunes that have resonated with fans all over the world. He recently returned to the label to release a two-track EP, titled ‘Home’, that is yet another incredible work of art from this talented artist. The EP is delicate and dreamy journey, with the title track featuring original vocals by his friend and collaborator Will RP Melville. It’s a blissed out gem while the second track “Remedy” explores the deeper spectrum of house with soothing melodies and a tranquil ambiance. We had a chance to chat with Waxman about the EP and what’s ahead – check it out below! You collaborated with Will RP Melville on this track. What quality do you think his vocals contribute to the track compared to using samples from Splice or Loopmaster? I’ve worked with Will Melville on quite a few songs and projects over the years – he’s an immensely talented multi-instrumentalist as well as a vocalist. I’ve also used royalty-free vocals on a fair few of my tunes. To me, there’s something that just feels more authentic and heartfelt when a vocalist writes original lyrics and vocal lines to a piece of my music. I think it adds heart, soul, and feeling to a song (as well as authenticity). It’s sometimes hard to describe but I definitely end up feeling prouder and more attached to the tunes I make with actual vocalist collaborators as opposed to sampled vocals. I guess I feel like it creates a stronger connection between the vocals and the music, which in turn helps create a stronger connection between the listener and the song. What emotional message were you trying to convey in this release? What do you want the listeners to take away from the music? The music I wrote for ‘Home’ came from me trying to capture the oh-so-popular feeling of nostalgia that we all love to latch onto and float in these days (I’m certainly partial anyway). I was so excited when Will sent me his vocals because he obviously felt the same way with the lyrics he wrote. They add to the feeling and let listeners form their own connections – to whatever their own nostalgic ‘home’ might be. With ‘Remedy’ I wanted a similar sort of feeling but kept things positive and a bit more upbeat and energetic. I feel like the tracks balance each other nicely while also pairing in tonality and mood. Which qualities in a label do you prioritize? What about David Hohme’s Where The Heart Is Records made you know they would be a good home for this release? This will be my fourth release on Where The Heart Is Records and I have no doubt it will not be my last. Both David and label manager Will Vance really care about each track they release on the label. With this EP even, when I sent over my demos, they let me know they loved them but that there were a few things that needed fine-tuning if I was up for that. Personally I’m a huge fan of getting extra ears and feedback on my tracks, so I jumped on the opportunity to improve these and I couldn’t be happier with the end result – the tracks turned out better than ever! I love working with labels that give feedback and include the artist in the release process, etc. There’s clearly real work going on behind the scenes with Where The Heart Is to make sure every release has the best chance to succeed and get heard by people who will love the music and they work with their artists to figure out how best to facilitate this. Labels that really care of their music are the best to work with because of course, I really care about my music too. Where did the inspiration behind the leading single of this EP come from? Share a personal story that fans may not know about your personal connection to this release. That might be more a question for Will in terms of lyrics but I have my own interpretation and meaning that I formed as the track took shape. We finalized the tune in the months leading up to me making a huge life move from Toronto, Canada to Melbourne, Australia so I couldn’t help but associate thoughts of my own leaving home and finding a new place to call home. It definitely still feels that way when I play it out over here in one of the furthest places in the world from my home. What is next for you and your artist project? Any other cool updates or gigs in the pipeline? I spent a lot of time working on remixes this past year which was fun but I’ve been moving back to working more primarily on original stuff and kind of slowing down on rushing to release music every month (as much fun as that can be). I’m trying to really push myself and progress my sound and production, which is a never-ending journey – but definitely one that I love. One recent highlight for me was a gig I played last month where I played an hour and a half set that was exclusively my own original music (no remixes even). It was pretty cool to be able to go through my own catalogue and create a bit of a journey in style and energy from it. And the dance floor seemed to be on board, so that was a lot of fun. Probably not an every-set thing, but I definitely plan on playing another all-Waxman selection some time soon! This article was first published on Your EDM. Tobtok unveils ‘So Good’, announces new EP
Image via publicist ‘So Good’ is the next single to see release from the forthcoming My Friends EP by Swedish producers and long-time friends, Tobtok and farfetch’d. Following in the vein of its experimental predecessor ‘I Like When You’, which received loving feedback from tastemakers ranging from Auntie Flo to Sam Divine, ‘So Good’ is an alarmingly refreshing release. Into a high-energy stutter house track it packs in a styled-up drill beat with an uplifting choir vocal, to show yet again that these producers are on the most accomplished streak of their careers so far. Over six tracks, the forthcoming ‘My Friends’ EP – due for release on London-based indie Perfect Havoc in September – is a diverse and exciting body of work that spans disco, breakbeat, drum and bass and house in the flavours of stutter, French and filter. With a catalogue of work that precedes them, it’s important to remove all preconceptions of what Tobtok and farfetch’d have done before. Forget their platinum-selling records, streaming numbers and chart positions, just listen to the result of when they start producing for the pure fun of it. On their latest single, Tobtok aka Tobias Karlsson, candidly tells the story of its creative journey. So Good started out completely differently, like a tribalesque record with almost Spanish vibes and with me singing the lead in falsetto. It sounded so awkward that we completely changed it! After we ditched that initial idea, we were joking around saying, let’s do a “trendy” stutter house record, but not taking ourselves remotely seriously. We upped the BPMs and created a little drill beat in the verse. We landed on a choir vocal which I think is what makes it sound so unique. Like with the previous track, we’re not trying to sound like anything. So Good is obviously inspired by the stutter house movement, but really, we’re just having fun.” Tobtok has always worked in his own lane, from his early nu disco signings to highly respected French label Kitsuné– who released his only EP to date, ‘Savanna’ – to his more dancefloor-geared signings to Selected as heard on ‘My Carousel’. There have been plenty of nods to the Swede’s talents over the years, from specialist spins from Pete Tong and Zane Lowe, to being asked to curate Toolroom’s Miami Poolside compilation. Although still early on in their career farfetch’d aka Jerry Sjödin and Johnny Bergström have been making waves of their own. Taking influence from old-time childhood heroes and fusing the feelings of the past with those of today, their music spans genres and is always drenched in love and happiness. Just check out their releases on Spinnin’, Axtone and Soave for evidence. Tobtok and farfetch’d go way back to when they first bonded over their love of nu disco and French house when meeting at a student club night and have since produced together on singles for Selected and Perfect Havoc. Tobtok and farfetch’d have already spoken about what to expect from the new EP, where they go all out with technique, playing around with sampling, micro-sampling live sounds, and manipulating and pitching vocals. “The concept was to do something really playful”, Tobtok explains, “We experimented with new ways of thinking. We tried not to think about what’s going to stream or what’s gonna go viral on TikTok, we just wanted to make music that we like.” ‘So Good’ by Tobtok & farfetch’d is released 21st July on Perfect Havoc. New Artist Spotlight: K4LT Brings an Electronic Pop to Post Punk [Video]
There’s been a rash of extra-cool, electronically-infused post punk-esque artists coming seemingly from all over the globe lately, and we are YEDM are here for it. With lofi beats, an offshoot of trip hop, being so popular the last few years, it’s only stands to reason that some artists would bring in the lowest of lofi, the maudlin melodies. Post punk artists like Nick Cave or Joy Division, for those who will recall, actually depended quite heavily on synthesizers in their heyday. While we now think of more stripped back sounds, these newer artists are updating those synths for modern ears, bringing in chaos and irony in a new way. With only an EP and a single to his name thus far, German producer and vocalist K4LT may be shaping up to be one of the best of this set, as his work folds punk into post punk, lofi into industrial and classic, Moog and 808 style into the digital era. K4LT released his first EP, the paradoxically named Endgame, in 2021. This EP showcased his skills as a master of the radio pop, a bygone sound from century-old recordings that many artists have weaponized as part of a beat or an interesting phrase transition. K4LT uses them for both, and his beats range from the afore-mentioned trip hop to trap to industrial beats. The latter, in Endgame‘s closing track “Fugae” is particularly impressive because with said industrial beat, the ancient radio pops, loads of vintage synths and some pretty heavy guitar, he still manages to keep the track decidedly lofi. On the other end of what we now know is the lofi spectrum (K4LT having pushed that boundary for us), or seemingly so, is the Endgame‘s opening track, “Boarding Pass.” With a very basic beat and beatific vocals, upon listening to the first part of this track, the average lofi fan would think it’s standard, but then another feedback-heavy guitar comes in, this time more shoegazey and chaotic. In fact, all of the tracks on Endgame contain guitars, ranging from haunting and more junkyard country, like in “Extinction Aphelion” to positively grungy in “Loading Screen.” From Endgame, a unique style begins to emerge from K4LT, but fans of the first EP shouldn’t expect the same in his new single, “LCPD.” Much more shoegazey in both form and function, “LCPD” has a more definitive trip hop structure to the beat with some drone play as well. Here the influence from acts like Radiohead and Gorillaz is really present, along with lofi techno vibes taken from K4LT’s hometown of Berlin. The effect is soft yet punctuated, with composition seems more intentional on this track but still with lashings of experimental sound design. Also likely the most delicate track in his visible discography, K4LT has said “LCPD” was inspired by the tension and emotions behind an “amicable” breakup. The careful yet emotional nature of this track may have been meant to reflect the difficulty that lies in such a tricky relationship maneuver, and if it was, it was very well done. It seems the experimental mature of K4LT’s work has already led him to create diverse, multi-layered work that will resonate with post punks, the indie-loving lofi crowd, vintage synth lovers and music science buffs. That’s a pretty good cross section to tap into, and “LCPD” certainly isn’t K4LT’s final form. Whatever he has in store for his next release, fans can expect it to utilize the radio pop, his many and sundry musical skills and a good heap of emotionality. “LCPD” and the rest of K4LT’s discography can be streamed on Spotify or purchased on Bandcamp. Disco Fries Discuss Exhilarating Third Album ‘Another World’, Helping The Next Generation of Producers, & How Amazing French Fries Are In Exclusive Interview
The boys are back, baby! This time around, Nick Ditri and Danny Boselovic, who make up the DJ/producer duo Disco Fries, have unleashed their highly anticipated third album ‘Another World.’ We’ve been on the edge of our seat since hearing the lead single “Love You Loud” with dance music icon Ferry Corsten featuring Leon Stanford. We’ve eager to hear what NYC duo Disco Fries have in store and they did not disappoint. Another World takes you on a musical journey from start-to-finish, as many truly consistent bodies of work do. Starting things off with a big vocal, the album’s title track, “Another World,” will reel listeners in from the very beginning. The LP continues with other vocal-heavy songs, dance-floor-ready tracks, progressive tunes, subdued & subtle cuts, and radio-friendly anthems, making it an album that showcases a motley mix of electronic music sub-genres and fits many moods. To commemorate the release of Another World, Disco Fries hosted an advance album listening party event at an on-the-water brewery venue in New Jersey, ahead of the album’s official release. “We’re very much looking forward to embarking on the latest in the Disco Fries journey – the release of our new album ‘Another World.’ The album is chock full of massive collaborations and eclectic productions that the Fries have become known for. There’s an identifiable consistency across our sound, and we couldn’t be more grateful for all of the massive support we’ve already been receiving on the album’s tracks from some of the biggest DJs and dance stations in the world. Strap in, close your eyes, and pop some bubbly as you get sent off into ‘Another World’… thanks for flying!” – Disco Fries We also had the chance to speak with them about the album and what’s ahead for this year. Check it out below! How has your Berklee education impacted your careers? Do you still find yourself using techniques you’ve learned there? Danny: We owe a lot to Berklee and can safely say we wouldn’t exist as a duo had we not met there. It laid a great foundation for songwriting, knowledge of music theory, and fundamentals of mixing and sound design. While it didn’t all apply directly to what we do today it certainly gave us a leg up on other producers coming onto the scene at the same time as us. Nick: Berklee was huge for us to get started, understand the basics of mixing, composition, and putting sounds together. I will also say, any formal education in music doesn’t properly prepare you for what’s coming. In a creative business that changes so rapidly, how could it? There is so much we had to unlearn and relearn from working with most collaborators who might not have formal training and work by ear, to the business of music which is always a silly game. There are so many nuances to what we do that you can’t teach in a book and you have to learn by doing but without a doubt Berklee helped us have a bit of a head start. Since the release of your last album, in what ways would you say you guys have matured sonically as well as personally? Nick: I think we have evolved as artists so much since our last album, but at our core we’re still just two goons messing around with sounds until we land on something where we both say “YO THAT’S DOPE!”. We haven’t lost the fun, the spontaneity, or really just giving zero f*cks about making whatever we want. In the beginning of our career, it always felt like walking on egg shells when we’d bounce around genre’s, but as time has passed I think we’re now just to a point where we are even more comfortable being us. I think that not only comes with time in the business of music but also with getting older, maturing and being more sure of our decisions. We realize that not every song will be a SMASH and that’s ok. We can always make another one. That’s typically our number one piece of advice to up and coming artists. You are an artist… if a song doesn’t land, there’s always tomorrow, you have plenty more tunes in you. What does your new album ‘Another World’ mean to you guys? Do you have a personal favorite track from the LP and why? Nick: Another World means a tremendous amount to me. In a time where our industry is dictated by singles, putting out a complete body of work is almost seen as rebellious. It’s strange but it is what it is. We feel nostalgic about albums and putting together a body of work still feels like the right thing to do both as artists and for the fans. Another World tells the story of our last 12-18 months putting these songs together, the influences we had over that amount of time, the writers we worked with, and experiences we had all pour out in the songs. This is the first album we’ve done where my favorite song changes every week but I’d say at the moment “The Edge” with Sarah de Warren is really hitting nicely. In what still remains a somewhat singles-driven industry, what made you decide to release a full-length LP? Danny: Definitely agree that dance music is largely singles driven but personally I like the idea of working towards a larger body of work. It’s motivation for us to work through all of the ideas and drafts we have kicking around on our computers to finish up the best of them. It also serves as a snapshot of our sound and style at this moment in time. Do you guys tend to work on music together in person more than virtually, or vice versa? Danny: When we first started we worked on almost everything together. It was important to develop a sound together that blended our musical backgrounds. Over the years, I moved around a lot first in NJ, then NYC, and ultimately back to VA where I grew up and with each move we worked less in person as travel between studios became a hassle. Now we work almost exclusively remotely but since we spent so many years in the studio together we have a solid understanding of what the Disco Fries sound is and where we’d take tracks musically. Of course we still do virtual sessions, bounce ideas off of each other as we go, and take turns getting our hands on the mixes throughout but none of it really requires both of us in the studio simultaneously. Over the years, what would you say have become some of your studio routines, rituals, or things that might help light the creative spark? Danny: It used to be as simple as getting in the studio, listening to lots of music, and if I got stuck I’d jump on YouTube to watch tutorials and other stuff for inspiration. Now I don’t have the time to hang out for hours waiting for inspiration to strike so I’m a lot more focused in the studio. Getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating like a reasonable person surprisingly go a long way and have really helped me be more productive with the time I have in the studio. Nick: I love being under the gun in the studio. Getting a last minute project, sync opportunity, or just an idea that we have to turn out with quick decisions, really gets me going. Sometimes it’s nice to place artificial deadlines on projects just to force ourselves to hone in and not f*ck around. To date, what are some of your stand-out career moments or accomplishments that you still sometimes can’t believe happened to you? Danny: Working with Tiësto on his 5th studio album, A Town Called Paradise, will forever be a highlight for me. He was one of the first names I knew in dance music and his 2007 album Elements of Life was hugely influential to Nick and I when we first started making music together. Nick: I agree with Danny. That experience with Tiesto really set it off. What that did for us to grow as producers, artists, and in the business of music has been second to none. In addition to that, I’d have to say some of our first touring experiences in Asia and clubs in the States like Pacha (we miss you), Avalon, Encore, and so many others, really resonated with us and helped us develop as live artists. The newness of playing a show in a new market, at a highly influential venue still is special for us. In addition to your Disco Fries artist project, you work with producers on your Finish My Track service. How did this come to fruition and why should a rising DJ/producer choose FMT? Nick: We started Finish My Track a couple years ago along with the live stream to help both up and coming producers and established finish their records. I’d say the majority of artists get stuck in that last 20% of the song, making decisions to finalize a mix, figuring out what sounds need to be swapped out, and what ultimately works and doesn’t work. We’ve done this on hundreds of records over the last decade so we wanted to create a service that really knocks it out of the park for artists who might need the help. For the rising producers, we just created a premium member subscription where we’re helping give them the tools to finish and release records. We’re doing monthly sample pack downloads, stems, tutorials, group calls, and fee-free distribution so they don’t have to shell out money out of pocket just to put a record out. How good of a matching is disco with fries? Do you suggest ketchup with them as well or is there another sauce? Danny: I’ll never turn down fries if offered so they’re good for basically every occasion. We recently even had them handed out mid-set during our show at Djais in Belmar, NJ. When it comes to dipping, ketchup is the classic but I’m down with almost anything. Mayo, malt vinegar, cheese, gravy, there isn’t really any way to go wrong. Nick: Give this man a soapbox, we need the masses to hear this information! This article was first published on Your EDM. In Dub We Trust: Kēvens Melds Reggae and EDMin His Uplifting New Single, “Legal Dreamers”
There is an innovative pulse resonating in the vast landscape of the global music scene, a unique sound blending the rich tones of reggae with the infectious rhythms of electronic dance music (EDM). At the helm of this sonic revolution is Kēvens, aptly named the “Keeper of Dub”, whose uplifting new single, “Legal Dreamers”, is rapidly capturing the hearts and ears of audiences worldwide. “Legal Dreamers” is more than just a song. It’s an emblem of Kēvens’ audacious musical innovation and his passionate commitment to promoting love, inclusion, positivity, and unity. Amid the track’s melodic fusion of reggae and EDM, listeners discover a mantra that echoes Kēvens’ underlying mission: to foster unity through music. Born on the sun-kissed shores of Jamaica, Kēvens’ music is deeply rooted in the Sound Systems Culture, an integral aspect of the island’s vibrant musical history. As he journeyed through his musical career, these deep-seated roots formed the bedrock of his sound, interweaving with his affection for the pulsating beats of EDM to give birth to a truly distinctive sonic identity. The significance of the song, “Legal Dreamers”, extends far beyond its melodic appeal. It is an open invitation to people of all backgrounds to dance together, dream together, and celebrate their humanity in the universal language of music. Embedded within Kēvens’ music is the key to this shared rhythm, opening up a world of unity and interconnectedness. Each beat and note carries a powerful message of hope, transforming the act of listening into a shared experience of empathy and understanding. This commitment to unity is also palpable in Kēvens’ other single, “Sweet Lady Liberty” (Radio Remix). An exuberant celebration of equality, positivity, and independence, this track echoes the ethos of “Legal Dreamers”, further amplifying Kēvens’ message of love and inclusion. In the ever-changing world of music, Kēvens is a pioneering artist boldly pushing the boundaries of genre conventions. He draws the robust, earthy tones of reggae and the electrifying energy of EDM into a harmonious dance, crafting a refreshing and universally captivating sound. However, his innovative approach extends beyond just creating toe-tapping tunes. At the heart of Kēvens’ music lies a profound understanding of the transformative power of music—the power to bridge divides, transcend cultural and linguistic barriers, and ignite a shared sense of hope and connection. Each rhythm and lyric in “Legal Dreamers” serves as a beacon, guiding listeners across the bridges of understanding that Kēvens so skillfully constructs through his music. As the vibrant soundscape unfolds, audiences are led on a journey that is as much about the shared experience of unity as it is about the innovative blend of reggae and EDM. As we immerse ourselves in the rhythmic synergy of “Legal Dreamers” and the invigorating beats of “Sweet Lady Liberty”, we are invited into Kēvens’ musical world. Your EDM Premiere: Preview the Emotional Upcoming EP from Nuvertal, ‘Reaper’ [Eatbrain]
YEDM’s finally managed to bag Eatbrain for a premiere and it couldn’t be a better release for such a first than Nuvertal’s next release with the neuro imprint, the Reaper EP. Due out this Friday, July 21, this EP seems to have been fated for Eatbrain. A follow-up of sorts to his 2022 Real Murder EP, Nuvertal’s style seems perfectly suited to Eatbrain, being both deep and melodic with just the right touch of tech. Reaper is somewhat of a new level for Nuvertal, and with this premiere, fans will quickly see why. In more ways than just the label it ended up on, Reaper seems to represent a culmination of the work Nuvertal’s done so far. While still firmly in deep neurofunk territory, this EP seems to take the Russian producer’s sound in a more emotive and rich direction that certainly wasn’t lost on the Eatbrain A&R team and won’t be lost on fans. From the jump on opening track “Teknocurl,” there’s a sizeable classical influence in the ambient work. Still heavy on the party vibes (there is, after all, no party without neuro, as the t-shirts say) and whip-smart snares, listeners should pay close attention to this classical influence, because it’s what really makes the EP stand out. The title track is even more jumpy and dancey than its predecessor but this is where the “tekno” “curls” into something different. A robotic, futuristic version of The Grim Reaper seems to emerge from the music, winding its way around the dance and collecting souls as the beat distracts them. You know it’s good when it’s that visceral, and the album art certainly helps paint the picture of the journey Nuvertal intends to take us on. It’s when the penultimate track, “Brazen Rain” begins, with its even tones and lighter feel after the carnage the “Reaper” has wrought, that we recognize the journey and the fact that this EP isn’t just four tracks strung together but a story: the birth, life, death and redemption of the Reaper? perhaps, but it can also just represent any life cycle we’re all constantly in. Following the life cycle trope as we now must, the closing track and YEDM premiere today, “Hope It Already Ended” brings the EP back to the classical hints that were in “Teknocurl” with its beautiful string ensemble opening and break. While still containing a heavy beat and loads of grimy neuro sub bass, glitch work and interesting phrase transitions, the synth melody and ambient sound design gives that theatrical, emotive feeling even during the raviest parts of the track. Said synths seem to synthesize from the strings and throughout the track they merge with each other, transitioning back and forth so smoothly and quickly that one might not even noticed it’s happening until a few bars in. No matter what the symbolism here, “Hope It Already Ended” is easily the most complex and well-rounded track on an EP of already epic tracks. While not his first EP, on Eatbrain or elsewhere (he’s also released multi-tracks on Program and Neuropunk Records in recent years), Reaper will certainly be a seminal work for Nuvertal. In these four tracks, he’s managed to convey not only the diversity of his style but the depth and complexity that can be found in his work in a way most fans likely haven’t heard it before. Eatbrain were certainly smart to sign this EP and while it will get a lot of play throughout festival season this year, “Hope It Already Ended” and others from this release will probably resonate far beyond the current fast-release culture. Reaper drops on Eatbrain on Friday, July 21. Click here to pre-order. This article was first published on Your EDM. Robert Cristian Jordan Displays aPlayful Sense of Humor on the Sly “DADGUY”
Robert Cristian Jordan is a singer/songwriter who has emerged from the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. Jordan’s career has been shaped by his life experiences, including being adopted as a newborn in a private adoption, becoming a single father, and adopting 4 boys from the foster care system. He is known for his unwavering advocacy for mental health awareness, using his music to spread awareness on a topic many people shy away from discussing. Jordan’s music is heavily influenced by his life story, which often revolves around themes of overcoming adversity and rising above life’s challenges to emerge victorious. As an artist, he tackles these topics with a unique style that he has coined as CINEMATIC POP. Jordan’s music is well-known for its ability to invoke powerful emotions in the listener, as his lyrics often center on deeply personal experiences that are easy to relate to. Throughout his childhood, Jordan was exposed to various forms of entertainment, including musical theater and movies that would shape his current style as a songwriter. This early exposure to the arts helped bridge the gap between his real-life experiences and the art that he creates, resulting in deeply rooted themes of hope, love, and personal growth within his music. Robert Cristian Jordan is not one to shy away from using his music as a platform to raise awareness on pressing social issues such as mental health, and his contributions have not gone unnoticed. From his early roots with eating disorders and self-discovery to his current career as a successful and prolific singer/songwriter, Jordan’s legacy is one of hope and perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles. With “DAD GUY,” Robert Cristian Jordan offers an anthem for single fathers. A nice rethinking of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” he transforms the track into something else entirely. Vocals have a hushed awe. The percussion goes right for a tactile sensibility, from the nice worming bass line that reflects upon Billie’s original to the eerie melody that lifts into the air. The lyricism is the heart and soul of the whole piece. He makes sure to let giddy energy dance its way across the entirety of the track, keeping its infectious pop quality neatly intact. The muffled, distorted bassline starts things on the right note. From the beginning, he goes full protector mode, protecting his kids against those wishing them ill. He gets incredible jabs at the outside world in a way only a dad could understand. Words build upon each other, adding to the overall picture of a devoted father. Of course, he displays an uncanny sense of humor, which proves biting at just the right moments. Timing is everything, and he rides the beat effectively, having that same mix of pop song meets distended hip-hop. Rhythms have a steady pulse as they dive headfirst into the red, allowing the entire piece a great degree of physicality from start to finish, an absolute joy to behold. “ DAD GUY ” features the delicate balance that Robert Cristian Jordan has, being both funny and celebratory at the same time. With a background shaped by adoption, fostering, and single parenthood, Jordan’s music tell stories of hope in the face of adversity, and his unwavering advocacy for mental health awareness only adds to the depth and power of his music. 1tbsp Drops Mind Bending Single, “Circuit Current”
Just a few weeks ago Australian producer 1tbsp announced that he’d be giving us an eight-track album in August and with that news also came a brand-new single called ‘Sleeves Touch My Elbows’ which features a vocal sample from a song called ‘Gran remera’ by Argentinian project Mora y los metegoles. Now, he’s back with a swirling, mind bending single aptly titled “Circuit Current.” He skillfully weaves trippy vocal samples with pulsating synths and a thumping beat that keeps you locked in the whole way through. We’re always thrilled to see where his creativity will take him and its safe to say that he’s struck gold yet again with this single. “When I started working on my upcoming album “Mosquito Love”, I really wanted to explore mixing my passion of latin/reggaeton music with house/dance music, and basing it around my new purchase of some modular synths. ‘Circuit Current’ is one of the more modular tracks on the album which revolves around a modular jam I did with Nick Ward, as well as an old Oscar Key Sung song that I cut up. ‘Circuit Current’ feels like a big collage of sounds which I got to somehow all work together after a lot of arranging” – 1tbsp Listen below! 44 Ardent Drops Compelling House & Lofi single, “double shot flat white”
44 Ardent has proven he can traverse all sorts of genres in the electronic music spectrum and truly excel at it. We recently shared his previous deep house single “bones (sinking like stones)” and we’re thrilled to see that he’s back, this time with a track dedicated to a fantastic order at the coffee shop, “double shot flat white”. It’s another impeccable slice of his experimental sound & style, boasting a breakbeat drum pattern paired with lofi chords and some mesmerizing synth patterns. “I have been listening to a lot of heavier dance music, particularly the new Skrillex records, and sat down to write something with a bit more punch. Coffee is an essential part of making dance music at 7am, so when it came time to record lyrics the song became an ode to my favourite caffeinated beverage. Here is a poem about double shot flat whites written by a computer, which I think perfectly encapsulates my thoughts, enjoy!” – 44 Ardent Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Bag Raiders Drop Classic House Infused Heater “Love Me Back”
Having drip-fed first tastes of new music in 2022 by the way of the dancefloor-centred ‘UR Heart‘, 2-step stuttering ‘Never Forget‘ and pensive, fast-paced ‘Letting Go‘, Bag Raiders now share ‘Love Me Back’ in a continuation of their new sonic trajectory. Staying true to their unmatched ability to create technically proficient nostalgia and blend it with an infectious melody, ‘Love Me Back‘ is a love letter to the club: a serotonin boost that is fast, confident, and full of maximum thrills to capture that strobing and shining dancefloor ethos. Beaming with personality, ‘Love Me Back’ marks some of their most creatively free work yet. Pulling a Meg Mac vocal into the track, they share: “We were doing some sessions with Meg Mac and Tim Ayre working on a whole bunch of stuff. Pop music, indie, trip-hop, just going nutso really, getting down whatever came out. Around the same time we had this idea for a club track where the breakdown was a long chordal thing and the drop was the same but all cut up. Very simple stuff. We wanted it to sound like we’d sampled an old funk record or something, so we got out the violins and guitars and recorded a bunch of stuff, layered some extra vocals tucked in there, and then chopped that all up. Because this was all happening at the same time we thought hang on… what if we steal a Meg vocal from one session, pitch it up and turn it into a rave vocal in the other? Bag Raider style! We went from indie rock to club banger in 4 semitones and 20 extra BPM. Lucky she liked it hehe.” They also just announced 11 US dates for their fall tour. Check it all out below! “Love Me Back” Fall US Tour Dates Aug 12 – CLUB ABOVE @ IVY – Eora / Sydney (DJ) Sep 1 – SPRINGTIME – Yugambeh / Gold Coast (DJ) Oct 14 – Floyd – Miami FL (DJ) Oct 18 – Lincoln Hall – Chicago IL (LIVE) Oct 19 – Elsewhere The Hall – Brooklyn NY (LIVE) Oct 20 – Culture – Washington D.C (LIVE) Oct 21 – Cervantes: The Other Side – Denver CO (LIVE) Oct 25 – Soundwell – Salt Lake City UT (DJ) Oct 26 – Crocodile Showroom – Seattle WA (LIVE) Oct 27 – The Independent – San Francisco CA (LIVE) Oct 28 – Pryes Brewing Co – Minneapolis MN (LIVE) Nov 03 – 1720 – Los Angeles CA (LIVE) Nov 04 – Darkstar – Tempe AZ (DJ) This article was first published on Your EDM. It’s a beautiful journey throughout the bass and melodic bass spectrum, as Josh masterfully weaves mind bending sonic layers with ethereal vocal melodies. “‘Playing with Fire’ to me is a representation of what it feels like to fall in love. Each of the tracks on this EP reflects on past experiences and relationships throughout my life. Both are feelings that are sometimes hard to describe so I tried to bring those feelings to life in these songs.
