Legendary electronic jam band The Disco Biscuits recently unveiled their ninth studio album, a space saga titled “Revolution in Motion,” just in time for their upcoming performance at Texas Eclipse. Produced by Derek VanScoten, also known as Cloudchord, the album comprises 14 tracks and has been unveiled in four parts, each accompanied by 3D animated films in a comic book style created by Blunt Action and published on the band’s YouTube page. The album narrates a fascinating tale of extraterrestrial beings descending upon New York City to freeze and abduct humans for study, only to encounter unexpected resistance from none other than The Disco Biscuits. As the story unfolds, the band accompanies the alien misfits back to their home planet, showcasing the transformative power of music to their Queen in hopes of quelling unrest among their people. All 14 tracks on the album have been performed live and refined over the past two years, with many becoming staples of the band’s performances and serving as platforms for improvisational exploration. Ah, Coachella. The only place where you can pay $10 for a bottle of water and still feel like you're getting a good deal. Believe it or not, Coachella wasn't always a giant Instagram filter. Before it was the marketing metropolis it is today, it was a rough-and-tumble romp in the desert on October 9th and 10th, 1999. Devoid of helicopter Uber riders and Walmart yodelers, Coachella's humble beginnings are crucial to its legacy as a pioneer in the festival space. Coachella now annually rakes in well over $100 million in revenue. And its impact on the local economy is even larger, with last year's festival providing a $400 million boon. But it wasn't always the golden goose of Goldenvoice. After the inaugural Coachella in '99, its organizers crumbled under the weight of the pitfalls of running a first-year festival. They lost roughly a million dollars that year, nearly bankrupting the company. Heavy is the head that wears the flower crown. "To break a brand-new festival sixty days away is financial suicide," Paul Tollett, Coachella's co-founder, told The New Yorker in 2017. "But we didn’t know that." Don't be surprised when your toddler gets signed before you. Playtime Engineering has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming device, myTRACKS. Designed for their line of Blipblox synthesizers to be somewhere between a toy and a music production suite, the instrument is built to help children begin to explore the world of electronic music production in a way that's accessible to them. You might be surprised to hear just how many features are packed into this unassuming device. Despite a colorful paint job that makes it look like a Fisher-Price toy, the product page says that myTRACKS has a built-in microphone and speakers, polychromatic backlit hit pads and a MIDI-out port so it can be connected elsewhere. The instrument is also battery-operated so kids can create from anywhere they'd like. In terms of the music production tools, there are close to 50 customizable instruments, including effects like filters, delay and pitch bend. Users can also harness recording capabilities that allow them to record and edit or loop their sounds. The historical remains of Ibiza’s superclub Privilege, once known as one of the largest nightclubs in the world as titled by the Guinness World Records, is officially coming down. Photos of the deconstruction of the famous nightclub have begun to surface, when only months earlier the venue received over 8.2m euros for renovations. We suspect that a new structure will be built in its place using those funds. Known for hosting events that filled its floors with over 10,000 ravers and club-goers alike, the once prestigious nightclub began on a downhill course after an unfortunate closure in 2018. Due to an inspection that uncovered illegal capacity increasing modifications, the club was forced to shut its doors. A year later, Privilege Ibiza made its return, although various sections of the venue remained closed off due to conditions that were deemed unsafe. However, when the pandemic set its grasp on the world in 2020, the club once again shut its doors, leading to its ultimate demise. Many have hoped that the venue would see successful return in the White Isle, even after the property was bought by the hospitality group Grupo Empresas Matutes. In 2023, the venue was even awarded over €8.2 million from the local Ibiza government to renovate, leading to rumors of a possible reopening in 2025. However, the venue has continued to lay in wait and deteriorate in the process due to lack of maintenance. It’s clear now that the Privilege Ibiza we knew is gone, but we are hopeful that something newer, bigger, and better will go up in its place. Glastonbury-born brothers Speakman continue to hone their future-faring new sound on ‘Infinity’, the third single and title track from their forthcoming EP dropping later this month. Out on 4th April, ‘Infinity’ sees the duo crafting one of their biggest sounding tracks to date taking in syncopated breaks, dreamy trance melodies, UK bass heavy & future house sounds and layering a widescreen, ethereal dreamy vocal and soaring trance-inducing lead synth melodies to spine-tingling effect. Skiddle has launched a groundbreaking initiative to conduct the UK’s most comprehensive survey to date on the mental well-being of professionals in the music and events industry. Announced as a follow-up to an industry-first study conducted among event organisers back in 2018, the survey aims to highlight the new challenges facing the community in the wake of the pandemic and amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The survey will be supported by a long list of prominent mental health charities and ambassadors, the likes of Music Minds Matter/ Help Musicians, Music Support, Manchester’s Headstock, Bristol’s Thrive At Night, the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), the Association for Independent Festivals (AIF), the Association for Independent Promoters (AIP), the Association of Electronic Music (AFEM) and the Music Venue Trust (MVT). Specifically targeting venue proprietors and promoters of gigs, club events, and festivals throughout the UK, the data collected will be used by Skiddle and its partners to identify the regions and locations in the greatest need of mental health support. Insights will also be compiled and transformed into a range of valuable resources, such as white papers, freely downloadable handbooks, guides, and additional materials. These resources will offer practical guidance to industry professionals on how to manage their mental health and will be distributed to align with this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, taking place from Monday the 13th to Sunday the 19th of May. A Tuesday afternoon fire at the Masquerade Club in Istanbul, Turkey has claimed the lives of at least 29 people, the BBC reports. Istanbul governor Davut Gül said the blaze broke out during the day while the venue was closed for renovations, although its root cause remains unclear. Masquerade was located on the ground and basement floors of a 16-story building in the city's Besiktas district, the governor's office stated in a press release. No events were occurring inside the club at the time and most of the victims, Gül added, are believed to be members of the team working on the renovations. Many were also hospitalized and are currently being treated for their injuries, he said in a statement provided to press at the scene. Three of those eight individuals have been brought into custody at the time of this writing. An official investigation into the fire is now underway, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced in a post on X.
