  3. Every so often, a vocalist emerges at the forefront of the dance music scene, where he or she evolves into a cultural icon. If it’s not John Martin, Dylan Matthew, or Becky Hill, it’s Liverpool-bred vocal powerhouse Hayla, whose debut solo album, DUSK, has freshly landed. Primarily known for her topline contributions on world-renowned dance records, namely John Summit‘s “Where You Are,” Sub Focus‘ “I Found You,” and, more recently, MEDUZA‘s “Another World,” among others, Hayla, born Hayley Williams, has rapidly risen the ranks as a front-running singer/songwriter in modern electronic music. Riding the wave of her explosive success, Hayla’s debut album marks an independent path forward for the UK singer, performer, musician, and now, music producer. Before its November 1 delivery, six of DUSK‘s album inclusions arrived as early-release singles. “Treading Water,” written and produced alongside Andy Sheldrake and Oliver Reed, materialized as the album’s first one-off preview in August 2022. Two months later, Andy Sheldrake-assisted “Unfold” hit digital stores as a sonic metaphor about “people’s perception of others as if they were a piece of art.” In 2023, Hayla piggybacked on the seismic upheaval achieved by “Where You Are” with the release of “Fall Again,” co-produced by Owen Jones, Ross Walsh & Alex Tepper, before issuing the final two album previews, “Freefall” and “Only I,” in 2024. Like most artists, Hayla enlisted songwriting and production support from respected industry tastemakers during the creation of DUSK. With that said, she took on the grand feat of producing the project’s title track, the last on the album, all on her own. “I was incredibly nervous about putting [‘DUSK’] on the album,” the producer revealed, adding, “I used to be incredibly nervous as a performer, feeling shy singing in front of people… Putting out ‘DUSK’ was sort of a ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ kind of thing. I’ve always been in awe of producers, and I would love to be able to say that I’ll produce more in the future now that I’ve done this. It’s a completely ambient and experimental piece, and it doesn’t have any lyrics.” Distinguished by swelling pads, layered background vocals, and a bouncy synth topline, “DUSK” caps the album as an authentic resemblance of Hayla’s musicianship and taste-making abilities, “I wanted to throw myself into the deep end, and I’m really happy that I did.” DUSK consists of ten tracks—ten tracks starring, not featuring, Hayla. The UK singer hopes her solo project will appeal to fans of her celebrated collaborations while also showcasing a more vulnerable side of her artistry, “I think I’ve managed to balance the sound and energy from my collaborations with this other side of me,” she explains. “I’m hoping audiences don’t feel alienated from who I am, and what I’d been doing with other artists, because that’s a big part of me as well.” She elaborates, “I’ve always enjoyed electronica, UKG, some more ambient styles, and then there’s a side of me that’s lower tempo, kind of more diary-inspired songwriting… I tried to make this album a nice mixture.” Hayla’s innate knack for songwriting pins her as much more than an EDM topliner, bolstering her credibility in a predominantly male-dominated scene. “It feels amazing to be earning these kinds of accolades in a male dominated genre,” says Hayla, who clinched two Electronic Dance Music Awards for “Vocalist Of The Year” and “Dance Song Of The Year” in 2024. Coming from a “band background,” Hayla’s fleshed out dance records can all be completely stripped back, an example being her 2018-released acoustic rendition of “I Need,” originally produced by UK drum-and-bass artist Wilkinson. “Storytelling within dance music is definitely becoming a lot more prevalent. Most of the songs I write start on a piano and would work as a stripped back piece. If you removed the production from most of the tracks that I’m on, you could hear it in a wine bar, you know?” On December 4th, Hayla will perform her first headline show at Los Angeles’ famed The Roxy Theatre. “It’s going to be a fun evening,” Hayla remarks. Attendees might expect some special arrangements of songs from Hayla’s esteemed repertoire. They also might expect the availability of exclusive vinyl copies of a certain debut album, “Yes, there might be some vinyl, potentially, for some people who turn up. I will reveal more about that soon.” “I just can’t wait to get out there. It’s going to be a mixture of songs from the album, songs that people may have heard before, songs that I’ve released as well as some that I haven’t… I’m really excited for people to hear the new ones live, and of course I’m excited to sing along with the ones that everybody knows.” With the release of her debut album, Hayla is postured to elevate even beyond her famous features come 2025. Buy tickets to Hayla’s upcoming headline show in LA here, listen—for the first time—to the recorded Dancing Astronaut Hayla interview here, and be sure to stream DUSK, in its entirety, below. 4. Last weekend, Ignite Group’s Twilight Harbor Festival transformed the Duggal Greenhouse into a mesmerizing realm of electronic music and Halloween spookies. Headlined by Dimitri Vegas, the event was a sensory overload of high hitting beats, dazzling visuals, and a spooky atmosphere. Duggal Greenhouse, a breathtaking industrial space, was adorned with eerie decorations and state-of-the-art lighting, creating the venue into a Halloween festive party. In addition to photo ops, there was also a haunted house that attendees could check out. There was also a complimentary food festival featuring a diverse range of culinary delights, and even a live tuna cutting! Starting off the night, Bassjackers, the dynamic duo known for their hard-hitting basslines and energetic performances, fired up the crowd with their high-octane set. Tracks like ‘All Around the World’ and ‘Bla Bla Bla’ had the audience jumping and cheering, as their signature blend of big room and electro house filled the air. They also performed their latest track ‘Wake the F Up’ which features an alarm clock intro which got everyone a bit confused in the first few seconds but got them all exploding in cheers once the track dropped. It definitely set the tone for the rest of the night. As the night progressed, Dimitri Vegas took the stage in his Spider man suit, captivating the crowd with his signature blend of high-energy tracks and big room sounds. The setlist was a carefully curated journey through the realms of big room, techno, progressive, and techno. Dimitri’s seamless mixing and track selection showcased not only his technical prowess but also his ability to read the crowd and keep them engaged. The energy was constant and nonstop pumping throughout the performance. My personal favorite track of the night is his track ‘Thank You (Not So Bad)’ with Tiesto. For those wanting to continue the party, Ignite Group has a few more shows coming up with R3HAB, and TJR on November 2nd and William Black on November 3rd. Check out the full lineup below. The momentum of the track is maintained, keeping listeners enthralled as ‘Rebel’ continues to evolve seamlessly until its conclusion. The collaboration draws on the rich backstory of Cruel But Fair’s track ‘Bruno’ that was used in the production of ‘Rebel;’ about this song the band members, Simon, Nigel and Mark said:“Nigel spent some time in Hamburg, and it inspired ‘Bruno’, which is from Cruel But Fair’s album Altona. It’s about Bruno Tesch, who was a plumber and a leader of a counter demonstration against a march by Nazis through Altona, a working-class district of Hamburg in 1932. 18 people were shot dead by the police and many more injured. Bruno and the other leaders were falsely convicted and executed the following year after a ‘show trial.’ Simon thought ALTONA was a strong image, the theme inspired a few songs on the album, and we think the theme resonates today.” With ‘Rebel’, IND:RA and Cruel But Fair deliver a track that embodies their creative synergy, offering an uniquely crafted fusion of their distinctive musical styles, so don’t forget to follow both artists on social media to stay in the loop about their future releases, live performances, and more exciting projects on the horizon. ‘Rebel’ is out now on Desert Disco Records, available for streaming and download on all major platforms. The collaboration with Lyke arrives hot on the heels of the duo’s high-octane performances during ADE where they tantalized fans with the explosive track, making it a staple in their sets throughout the week. Discovery Channel The track’s pulsating beat immediately plunges listeners deep into the throws of Mathame’s innovative spirit. At the same time, the driving bassline sets an infectious rhythm and promises an unparalleled sonic journey. The hard-hitting masterpiece unleashes a euphoric wave of sound. In effect, it invites listeners across the globe to dive deep into the duo’s effervescent vision. Meanwhile, they continue to carve out a unique space for themselves and push the limits of the genre. Mathame Mathame had some words regarding the track: “For us, despite the seemingly light-hearted nature of the original track, it’s one of the most profound memories from our adolescence. It was the golden age of MTV, and The Bad Touch was one of the first music videos we ever saw. Beneath the humor and the energy, we always felt there was this dark, hypnotic melancholy lurking underneath. So, when Lyke suggested we work on it, it was almost instinctive—it felt so natural to bring out that darker tone we had always sensed“. “The track came together in just a few days, like it had been waiting for us to transform it. From the very first moment, we knew we were onto something special. It immediately became a hypnotic, magical piece in our sets, a constant feature that captures the crowd every time. It was magical from the start.” -Mathame 2024 has marked a triumphant return of Mathame’s shared artistic vision. First, it saw the releases of critically-acclaimed singles ‘I Will Find You,’ and ‘Angel’. This accompanied their groundbreaking residency – NEO – at Ibiza’s fabled electronic temple, Amnesia. The event coalesced music and art, bridging the gap between ancient and modern. Moreover, it oversaw the completion of their AV Shows with an electrifying performance during Tomorrowland Weekend One. Besides, it was a one-of-a-kind, first-ever full-length AI-generated feature film in a public venue. On October 5, the duo officially unveiled NEO World, their highly-anticipated world tour, debuted at the iconic Brooklyn Mirage. The two-hour show involved a 360-degree immersive sonic experience, coalescing music and art. Lastly, it centered around the reimagined, nine-meter-tall humanoid – NEO –. The latter is the physical manifestation of the duo’s connective ethos and symbol of unity and peace. Nothing like a revival of our teenage years into an adult interpretation of those hazy dreams. 12. English electronic music producer Jon Hopkins is teaming up with NASA in producing a single by the title of ‘Forever Held’. This single, which also features the string arrangements of Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds, has a very unique aspect to it as it will get to venture into the moon itself. According to an article from DJ Mag, the journey that the ‘Forever Held’ will undergo is a part of NASA’s “Space For Earth” installation at the space agency’s HQ in Washington D.C. and it will be a very spectacular journey. This installation is a mesmerizing audiovisual experience that allows small groups of viewers to see Earth from space. To add more scientific wonder and intrigue to ‘Forever Held’, the journey that the single will take part in is a part of NASA’s “Lunar Codex” time capsule, which contains works coming from over 35,000 contemporary writers, musicians, artists, and filmmakers. The planned voyage of Jon Hopkins and Ólafur Arnalds’ ‘Forever Held’ is not the first time that NASA has sent works of music to space. Earlier this past summer, the space agency transmitted ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’ by hip-hop icon Missy Elliott to deep space (particularly to the planet Venus) via the agency’s Deep Space Network (DSN). Furthermore, at the beginning of this year, the Kennedy Space Center threw down an after-hours “Rechno party” titled “Kennedy Under The Stars”, on February 2nd and it included amazing live DJ sets, mini golf under neon lights, and interactive science experiments (and this event even came back on August 31st as well). I do find inherent to the sound I want to pursue: melodic, sensual and effective. And ‘Magma’ is all about power, which I wanted to demonstrate in the track. 16. The new single is the kickoff to a new Tranquility Base EP, much like we had last year. It’s no surprise that Above & Beyond‘s ABGT600 set was full of IDs, some we had been hearing for a while, and others which had their premiere at that very stage in Mexico City. The boys didn’t take too long to start releasing some of these goodies, luckily for us. And the first one to see the light of day is ‘React‘, out today. Rinsed across the globe over the last months, ‘React’ is not only the first song of them to be released since ABGT600, but it’s also the first single of a new Tranquility Base EP, much like the one we got last year, and whose focal point was experimenting with sounds resemblant to their old, legendary alias, Tranquility Base. ‘React’ ‘React’ is the first of five singles which will make up the Tranquility Base Vol. 2 EP, to come out on December 6th. Its predecessor, Vol. 1, peaked in the #1 slot on Beatport’s Techno releases chart, with singles ‘Angry JP8’ and ‘500’ hitting Beatport Trance #1. We can certainly expect some interesting things with this new offering. Woven together by yesteryear synths processed in a modern style, the first seconds of the drop actually remind us of Andrew Bayer’s remix of Push’s classic ‘Strange World’, and then the song takes on a life of its own, tinting detuned supersaws over moogish basslines. The break sees listeners go through a substantial tempo change, for what feels like 108 BPM, to then go back to the energy of the first drop, while carrying the melody of the break. 18. Showcasing the best of both dubstep and drum & bass, YDG's "Lose Control" is here to remind us that true skill knows no bounds. The track kicks off with intensity, steeped in flittering, digitized melodies as it builds before giving way to a tactful blend of melodic and heavy dubstep. From there, it only escalates. The vocals and tempo pick up together, delightfully confusing listeners and preparing us for what's to come. Right as it all seems ready to give out to more ground-shaking bass, YDG pulls everything back and fakes us out with a filtered sequence of muffled elevator Muzak before unleashing a tidal wave of hyperactive drum & bass. The electrifying "Lose Control" arrives ahead of the artist's performance at EDC Orlando, and there's no doubt the crowd will feel the track's high voltage. 20. In a world where vocals often play second fiddle to the beat, DUSK, HAYLA's highly anticipated debut album, flips the script. From start to finish, the project presents an intimate journey through vulnerability, heartache and triumph, all while tethered to pulsating dance rhythms. HAYLA's voice becomes the central force, an instrument as dynamic and commanding as any synth in its own right. 'It’s amazing to work with so many of the collaborators I’ve worked with, but when you go at it alone it does feel quite exposing," HAYLA tells EDM.com. "Because of the audience from the DJs I’ve worked with potentially coming over to listen to my music, I hope I live up to people’s expectations... I’m so fortunate to have these audiences listen to my music and support me." "I’m really proud of what I’ve created... It’s something, for once, where I can say, 'I have something tangibly mine' and I hope people get to know me more." From the opening notes of "Only I," DUSK makes one thing clear: HAYLA is here to claim her place as both a vocal powerhouse and a compelling songwriter. The album kicks off with a somber tone as gentle arpeggios bubble beneath her soaring voice, delivering a heart-wrenching yet resolute message. It’s a delicate balance, one that showcases her gift for turning pain into beauty. Elsewhere, HAYLA stuns with "Freefall," a track that encapsulates the emotional core of the album through throbbing basslines and shimmering synths. Co-produced with Grammy-nominated musician Carl Ryden, the song navigates love's most precarious moments in a surefire highlight that feels like both a confession and a catharsis. The depth of "Freefall" is beautifully contrasted by the airiness of another standout track, "Visions of You." "The song story behind it is really when you’re starstruck by infatuation and the thought of that one person that gets you through the day," HAYLA explains. "That one person that you can’t wait to see again that makes you feel good. It was a really fun thing to write. It’s probably the happiest track on the album." HAYLA.c/o Press But HAYLA's strength lies not only in her ability to captivate with anthems of heartache. She also offers profound moments of introspection, such as on the hauntingly beautiful titular track, "DUSK." Produced and written entirely by HAYLA herself, the album's closer invites us into a sonic twilight where languid strings build as her vocals hum in ethereal waves, creating a dreamlike soundscape that drifts into darkness. It’s a track meant for quiet reflection, best enjoyed, as HAYLA herself suggests, just before the world fades into night. "I won’t lie, I was incredibly nervous about showing that side of myself," she tells us. "It’s something I’ve done behind closed doors to broaden my musical horizons and to have a more integral part of ownership of a track. I would really like to do more production. Working with so many amazing producers, to say what you want a track to sound like or integrally be a part of a track is amazing, but to actually do it myself felt like something I wanted to experiment with." "It’s a completely experimental piece," she continues. "It’s an instrumental piece. I suppose its more of a vibey piece. It was something I could actually, for once, put a bit of a, 'This is my body of work' and try to get what’s in my head out into the open. Experimentally, that freedom was great to do.” Fans have more to look forward to from HAYLA as she's set to take the stage at LA's Roxy Theatre for her debut headline show on December 4th. The pair recently debuted the single together at LA's Hollywood Palladium, where Crankdat sold out a doubleheader in which he said he "accomplished the biggest goal [he] had set for 8 years." "Along with the record we are also releasing a music video that has been a labor of love to plan out and help create, and I can’t wait for everyone to see and hear it." 25. Hypnotic bass is how Phrva communicates that his reign is just beginning—and while listening to his debut EP Crave, we are all subjects. Crave begins with "Is It All," a mesmerizing track in which gentle vocals float amongst a sea of dark bass. The track's refrain, continuously repeated, conjures a somber introspection. "Mind" comes to bat next, uplifting listeners with a lively trap beat that pinballs a trilling melody. Finally, the EP's last track reminds us what Phrva always wants: "More." That sentiment is stated throughout the track as a cliffhanger of sorts, leaving us wanting the same. "Crave is my first original project, and I hope that it shows the scope of what I’m aiming to achieve with my music," said Phrva, who is set to join Tape B on tour as support for the producer's upcoming Reno and Denver shows. "At the core, Phrva is all about following a feeling and groove and not overthinking it, and the tracks on this project were all created with that mentality."
