  1. Artist Ionne is thrilled to announce the release of his latest E.P., Right Foot Front, a project deeply rooted in the vibrant world of skateboarding. Inspired by a silent documentary shot by local artists Kulimushi Barongozi and Jisu Sheen at the Second Floor Hardware School in New Haven, the E.P. offers a sonic exploration of the skateboarding scene, blending elements of drum’n’bass, jazz, and lounge music. The documentary, available on YouTube, follows four New Haven skaters and captures their unique connection to the sport. Initially conceived as a four-track collection, the E.P. features the songs “Fly,” “Right Foot Front,” “A Kind of Dance,” and “Inducta,” each representing one of the skaters from the film. As the project evolved, Ionne added a fifth track, “From Afar,” reflecting his personal experiences observing skaters at local parks and immersing himself in the culture. Ionne’s journey into the world of skateboarding was guided by his friends J Joseph and Steve Roberts, both seasoned skaters. Roberts, the founder of New Haven’s Push to Start skate program, along with Joseph, co-founder of the Scantlebury Park skatepark, provided valuable insights that shaped the E.P.’s narrative. The advice to “keep your right foot front” became a metaphorical and literal guide throughout the composition process, leading to a thematic progression from observation (“From Afar”), to learning (“Fly”), to embracing the skate lifestyle (“Right Foot Front” and “A Kind of Dance”), and finally to mastery (“Inducta”). Right Foot Front initially started as a drum’n’bass project, but Ionne’s creative process led to genre-blending additions, such as the jazz-infused “From Afar” and the lounge-inspired “A Kind of Dance (Chill Mix).” These stylistic choices became integral to the storytelling, highlighting the diverse influences that shape the skateboarding community. The E.P. also features a lineup of rising vocal talents, including rapper Dogman Rukus, spoken word artists Egypt English and Ms. Latrice P. Young, and singers Lou Alexander and Kleidi Buroz. The track “Right Foot Front” includes a contribution from the rapper Preferably Anonymous, whose distinctive London accent pays homage to the UK jungle scene that heavily influences drum’n’bass. Ionne’s connection to jungle and drum’n’bass dates back to the 1990s U.S. rave scene, and this influence resurfaced in a defining moment at Edgewood Park in New Haven. As a DJ played a drum’n’bass set while skaters performed tricks, the mood for Right Foot Front was set, culminating in a project that celebrates both the energy and the artistry of skateboarding. Right Foot Front is available on all major streaming platforms on August 13th. Whether you’re part of the skateboarding community or simply a lover of innovative music, this E.P. offers a fresh, immersive experience. 2. Back in May, American audio equipment manufacturer Sonos updated its app and it received a lot of criticism from its long-time customers. According to an article from Digital Music News, the update removed many features that have appeared on the app for several years. Some of the features the app removed include the “shuffle all” from the combined library, no more volume numbers, timers and alarms, and lack of EQ control. The unpopularity of the update later influenced Sonos CEO Patrick Spence to apologize and, a few days ago, the company confirmed layoffs affecting about 100 employees. The Reason Behind Sonos’ Layoffs The layoffs from Sonos also come while the company continues fixing the effects of the updates that arrived back in May. According to a post from The HR Digest, the multiple bugs, missing features, accessibility issues, and other malfunctions that came from the app’s update disrupted the general workflow of the various departments in the company. On the day of the Sonos layoffs, the 100 employees instantly lost access to their work. This meant that those employees were unaware until later that they were on the layoff list and got the sack by Sonos immediately. The latest layoffs from Sonos are not the first time the company has overseen a situation like this. In 2020, during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it had to let go of 12% of its workforce and then in 2023, it laid off 7% more. So far, the manufacturer has not laid out a plan that can get the app back going efficiently. The layoffs even prompted Sonos to halt two product launches so that the company could allow the developers more time to fix the app. There are also rumors that the app may return to its old version that many customers liked. CEO Patrick Spence then emphasized a goal towards improving the app to much more qualitative standards. The CEO said, “Continued commitment to the app recovery and delighting our customers remains our priority, and we are confident that today’s actions will not impact our ability to deliver on that promise”. 5. Twin Peaks has always been a place where reality blurs with the surreal, and with his latest track, "Garmonbozia," Flying Lotus masterfully captures the series' same spellbinding essence. The new single conjures up the eerie atmosphere of the series' source material, leaving listeners in a hypnotic trance as they traverse its dark corridors. With "Garmonbozia," he ventures deep into the cinematic universe of the franchise, crafting a soundscape that feels as characteristically enigmatic as one would expect, and then some. Each sonic element in "Garmonbozia" is meticulously crafted, allowing the track to become a vessel for our own confrontations with pain and sorrow, much like the mysterious substance from the show from which it takes its name. The track brims with a plotting, grungy bassline that slithers through the mix, its presence both ominous and magnetic. As the bassline coils around the foundations of the track, FlyLo's own crooning vocal delivery emerges while swelling synths rise like dark clouds on the horizon, creating a sense of impending doom. Just when it seems the tension can stretch no further, otherworldly, mangled growls erupt, adding an additional layer of the producer's singular sound design. Hair-raising arpeggiated synths then seep into the soundscape, filling every shadowy crevice with a haunting charm. Listen to "Garmonbozia" below and find the new single on streaming platforms here. 7. Thirteen years ago, Calvin Harris released “Feel So Close.” The song became one of the defining tracks of the early 2010s, while pivoting the evolution of EDM. As we look back on its release, it’s obvious that “Feel So Close” was more than just a hit; it was a cultural phenomenon that continues to resonate with listeners. By 2011, Calvin Harris was already a well-established name in music. However, “Feel So Close” marked a significant shift in his career. Unlike his previous work, where he often collaborated with other artists, Harris took center stage on this track, using his own voice in the song. This decision not only showcased his versatility as an artist, but also set the tone for a new wave of EDM that blurred the lines between DJ and singer. When “Feel So Close” made its debut, it quickly became a success. It was not just a reflection of Harris’ talent, but also an indication of a broader shift in the music industry. EDM was beginning to take over mainstream music, and tracks like “Feel So Close” played a crucial role in bringing the genre to a global crowd. Beyond its impact on the music charts, “Feel So Close” holds a special place in the hearts of fans. It’s a song that brings nostalgia for a time when EDM was on the rise, and the possibilities for the genre seemed endless. The track’s message of closeness and connection has remained relevant today, making it a timeless piece of music that continues to be enjoyed by listeners old and new.

  10. Will Smith is creating fresh dance tracks in Ibiza while also playing a role in the launch of an innovative new club, leaving fans excited for both his own music and the broader future of nightlife on the White Isle. Amid the unending pulse of Ibiza's storied nightlife scene, Smith is quietly crafting a new chapter in his multifaceted career—this time, with a focus on dance music. Smith's recent releases, "Work of Art" and "You Can Make It," are his first singles in nearly 20 years and his recent time spent on the island suggests there's much more to come. The iconic actor and Big Willie Style rapper "has been spending time in Ibiza working on new music, drawing inspiration from the dance scene on the island," according to a press release shared with EDM.com. While Smith's musical endeavors are gaining momentum, his recent involvement in a headline-grabbing UFO stunt has also been making waves. The viral moment, which featured a mysterious "sighting" over the island of Es Vedrá, was revealed to be a cleverly orchestrated marketing campaign for [UNVRS], a new club set to open in 2025. Masterminded by Yann Pissenem, the club's owner and founder of The Night League and Ushuaïa Entertainment, the stunt saw Smith putting on his detective hat. In a playful nod to his Men in Black days, he embraced the role of UFO investigator. As it turns out, the UFO was nothing more than an ambitious drone, part of a larger-than-life vision to introduce [UNVRS] to the world. "This campaign has been truly out of this world," said Pissenem. "Revealing the name with a viral sensation is just the beginning. Seeing so many media outlets, celebrities, and influencers engage with the story has been incredible and having the possibility to reveal the brand with such an iconic actor like Will Smith was a dream come true." "Now that the truth is out there," he continues, "we can’t wait to welcome everyone to our new universe in 2025 as we launch the world's first Hyperclub." [UNVRS] is expected to open in 2025. 11. We sat down with R3HAB at Unseen Festival in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 9, 2024, just before he took the stage. With the anticipation of his set in the air, we talked about his recent collaborations, including his latest track with Deorro, his upcoming release with Sophie and The Giants, and his experiences at Tomorrowland. As we caught up, R3HAB ’s down-to-earth insights gave us a glimpse into his creative process and what keeps him pushing boundaries in the world of electronic music. Here’s what he had to share. Welcome, and thanks for sitting down with me on behalf of EDM House Network. Can you tell us about your recent release with Deorro which was released on August 2nd? Deorro is a very cool guy and I love working with him. We wanted to try something uptempo and that’s how it happened. We’ve had a good record in the past and I thought we should try something new. It’s been really cool. It’s sort of going out of what you usually do right? Yes, we try to do new things. I think it’s a nice period in the music industry to experiment. I think a lot of people are experimenting and then you find something fresh so it’s nice. You have a release coming out on August 23rd with Sophie and The Giants via Universal Music. What can you tell us about that? Sophie’s vocals are great. This record is something that’s nice for listening instead of partying. I would say it’s in between, like a floater. I’m really excited about this one. I really love the hook on it and the melody of the accordion. You have a stacked and busy schedule with shows all over the world including here at Unseen Festival in Bangkok and you’re fresh off your Tomorrowland show. Some of the shows you have coming up are Dreambeach Festival in Spain, WKND Festival Finland, Smukfest Denmark, Mysteryland Netherlands, Ministry of Sound London, EDC China, Mega DJ Festival South Korea…you are going all around the world. Yeah the festivals are crazy. I’m collecting frequent flier miles. Speaking of EDC China, you must have heard we’re having EDC Thailand? I heard. It’s going to be nice, right? I like Insomniac doing different things around the world. I think they always have a good concept. What I really like is that they always focus on dance music. They’ve got such a wide knowledge of dance music and experience. I’m looking forward to it. Could you tell us a bit about your recent Tomorrowland 2024 set? I think Tomorrowland is very well done. When you look at the theme and the owner, they love dance music. They’re so experienced with it, and that’s why the festival is so good. They know how to program it and develop it. It’s difficult for a festival that goes on for 12 hours to keep it interesting for 12 hours but Tomorrowland does such a phenomenal job. And it’s always better with good weather. Speaking of Tomorrowland, what did you think of the stage this year? It’s beautiful. I was there in the night, the lasers, the lights and the moon was amazing. I was really impressed with everything. It was really impressive and I’ve seen a lot of stages. You also released a remix of DJ Snake and Peso Pluma’s Teka via Universal/Interscope, how do you feel about that? Snake is a legend and I love him. I think he’s very important in dance music because he’s done a lot of things that people haven’t done before. He’s inspired a lot. It’s always an honor to remix him. Is there anything you’d like to say to your Thai and International fans and to EDM House Network? I love coming to Thailand. It’s amazing. Every time I’m here, I feel like I should stay longer and every time I’m sad to leave. I’m actually excited to be back. Last year I was on vacation here, and I hope to come back on vacation soon. Love Thailand. Thank you so much for sitting down with me on behalf of EDM House Network. Thank you so much.
  12. While uncovering and sharing set recordings is common in the Aphex Twin fandom, his latest performance might be his most exclusive yet. The enigmatic and deeply influential producer recently took over DJing duties at his friend's wedding, according to multiple reports. Whether or not he played "Cha Cha Slide," however, we're unable to confirm. These intoxicating melodies are, on the surface, perfect for a celebration of eternal love, but that was very much not the case. In footage shard by a wedding guest on X, Aphex Twin can be seen performing from a modest DJ booth with nothing more than a small projection screen behind him. At this point in their career, it is quite normal for artists to decide to create a project that works as a funnel for all the tracks and the material they’re constantly receiving. After years of performing at some of the best stages in the world, DJs develop the ability to know which type of tracks the crowd wants to listen to. And, if the DJ happens to be particularly good, they might even be able to foresee what type of sounds the people will like in the future. 14. Opened in 1994, Privilege Ibiza quickly established itself as a monumental force in the world of Ibiza nightlife. With its immense capacity and eclectic mix of electronic music, Privilege earned its place in the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest nightclub. Boasting a dance floor that could accommodate up to 10,000 people and an impressive overhead dome that housed a massive swimming pool, Privilege offered an unparalleled clubbing experience. Over the years, however, the venue faced various challenges, including changes in music trends and shifts in the Ibiza clubbing scene. Despite its iconic status, the club struggled with maintaining its previous grandeur and eventually closed its doors in 2020, a victim of evolving tastes and the impact of global events. The legacy of Privilege still remains significant. It was more than just a nightclub; it was a symbol of Ibiza’s pleasure-seeking spirit and its status as a global party capital. The blend of extravagant design and high-energy performances made it a mecca for electronic music enthusiasts and an emblem of the island’s vibrant nightlife. In a bold move to reshape the nightlife landscape, the creators of Ushuaia and HÏ Ibiza are set to reimagine the iconic space during Summer 2025. The venue will be reborn as [UNVRS], the world’s first “hyperclub.” This ambitious project aims to merge the luxury and meticulous service of high-end nightclubs with the grandeur and scale of arena events. [UNVRS] promises to elevate the clubbing experience, combining cutting-edge technology with a high-energy atmosphere to create an unprecedented nightlife experience. As [UNVRS] prepares to take over the legendary space, it stands as a testament to the evolving nature of nightlife, blending the rich history of Privilege with a bold, futuristic vision.

  16. In 2011 David Guetta released his 5th studio album ‘Nothing but the Beat’ which was packed with huge hits that would rocket into the charts including the iconic ‘Titanium.’ As if the album couldn’t get any better, the following year Guetta would expand the album adding 6 extra tracks with the lead single being another absolute classic, ‘She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)’. Sia would provide the vocals on this track following on from also singing on ‘Titanium’ and she once again gave an incredible, powerful performance that created a lot of the emotion within the verses while Guetta’s classic club energy takes over for the choruses. This meshing of talents would be a great success with ‘She Wolf’ going to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart and going on to rack up over 300 million Spotify streams. ‘Nothing but the Beat’ also featured collaborations from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Flo Rida, Chris Brown and several other huge names from many different genres of music. The album received a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Dance/Electronica Album’ but more importantly would act as one of the catalysts for bringing EDM into the mainstream and kicking off a fantastic era for electronic music. David Guetta is widely considered to be one of the main reasons for EDM’s rise in popularity coming into the early 2010s and he has continued to plough his way into the charts since. ‘She Wolf’ is one of the many amazing tracks that David Guetta has created where he managed to walk the line of creating a pop hit without losing his epic club sound. With the fantastic songs they managed to create together, do you think we’ll see another collaboration between David Guetta and Sia soon?

A new design on LEGO's "Ideas" platform, which allows consumers to submit ideas for LEGO products to be turned into sets available commercially, has been making noise with music lovers who have a fondness for little plastic bricks. One user has created a functional replica of the Technics SL-1200 MK2 Turntable so you can cut and scratch using the power of LEGO bricks. Builders can upload their creations to the crowdsourcing platform, where the submission can then be voted on by users. If their design amasses 10,000 votes, it will then be reviewed by LEGO staff, who will determine if it should become an official set. Created by Tomasso, the Technics turntable recreation contains realistic features like a needle, adjustable pitch control, and a 45 RPM adapter. He used 2,215 blocks to achieve the build. This is not the first time Tomasso has shared a DJ-related LEGO set with the world. Last year, he started a campaign for a Pioneer DJ CDJ-2000 Nexus build, which has since reached the necessary 10,000 votes and will be reviewed by LEGO's designers in September 2024. Considering that success , it seems likely his take on Technics will reach the same fate. You can support the project on the official LEGO Ideas page.

  23. Louis The Child brought their annual Alter-Ego show to the North East this past weekend and took over the entire venue for a very special night of music. Normally when artists visit The Brooklyn Mirage, they perform at one of the 3 stages available at the venue but like typical Alter-Ego fashion, Louis The Child took over all 3 stages for a full venue takeover this past weekend. The 3rd annual Alter-Ego show at The Brooklyn Mirage was no doubt a special one. The full venue takeover consisted of music flowing throughout the Avant Gardner indoor venue, The Brooklyn Mirage mainstage area and even a comedy presentation in King’s Hall. Louis The Child played 2 sets throughout the evening. Kicking things off with a playground set at 10PM, many fans flooded to the venue as doors opened to catch their special show opening performance. Their second set was another special experience as they tapped their close friend, Jai Wolf for a headlining B2B set which was no doubt a highlight for everyone in attendance. Evan Giia, MEMBA, and Troyboi were all notable names that took the stage at the event this past weekend adding to the Alter Ego experience. With the success of the annual Alter Ego shows at The Brooklyn Mirage, there is no doubt that we can expect them to make a return for a fourth annual show next year. With the different elements incorporated into their shows, it’s certainly exciting to see what they will attempt to do next year. The duo of Louis The Child are currently on tour so check out their full tour schedule here to see what city you can catch them next.
