Setting himself apart from the crowd with a visceral, embodied tone is Kansas-based Klay Cartier. Listening to his latest offering, a make-your-head-nod single titled ‘Good For Nothin’’, we were carried away by a whirlwind of precision. Anything but tame, the classic hip-hop drums slam relentlessly beneath the warmth of Klay’s timbre – Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.
Stream / Download: Klay Cartier – ‘Good For Nothin’’
This young man is being talked about. Having previously featured in NOTION Magazine, WordPlay Magazine, and The Pit London, he has garnered early press support for his latest single from the noteworthy music publication CLASH Magazine. And today we’re adding our support. To mark the occasion, we got to know more about this rising name. Here is Klay Cartier:
When recording ‘Good For Nothing’’ how did you get into the zone?
Once I heard the heavy percussion and the guitar melody that we ended up reversing, I was instantly excited, I had this butterfly feeling, and I felt like I could really do something amazing to this.
Singers and producers often have different tastes. How do you negotiate decisions about the sound direction with your producer?
With my producers, it can really be a power struggle because we both care about the song and we both want the song to be good, but sometimes if not all the time we just hear a different version of the song that may be what we originally intended on when it came to the creation, ultimately we just have to compromise and find a solution that fits both of our tastes. Personally, I try not to be bratty so sometimes I can easily find a compromise and be open to change.
Looking back, what were some of your earliest entries into music appreciation? And music production?
I remember sneaking into my mom’s CD collection and just listening to ‘90s R&B and ‘00s R&B, and I would lay next to the radio getting lost in the music. I’d even write down my favourite lyrics from the songs. As far as music production, I’ve only started to dive into that recently since I’ve been more hands-on with my music production.
Take us through your list of dream software/gear you would like to get?
Definitely a Neumann U67! I’m a microphone geek and, to me, that’s one of the best microphones out right now!
What do you need with you when you sit down to write or produce?
My phone! I’m always recording different harmonies and weird sounds that I think would sound cool in a beat, so often I like to play those back to see if they inspire anything whether it be a hook or a verse.
What other artistic revenues do you pursue?
Besides acting and modelling, I write poetry under a pseudonym, one which I’m not ready to reveal just yet.
Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?
Performing and interacting with an audience for sure! There’s just a certain euphoric feeling when you’re on stage, and it’s kind of like you’re forced to live in the moment. You’re not worried about yesterday or tomorrow; you’re engulfed in the present.
What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far?
Seeing the messages and comments of people who say that they can’t stop listening to my music. That may sound simple, but there were times when I thought no one would ever listen to my songs.
Name 3 artists you would love to collaborate with in the future
Definitely Drake, 21 Savage, and SZA.
Do you think music should provide social commentary and reflect the current world?
Most definitely. What would music be if it didn’t narrate the times? Music not only provides the soundtrack to our lives, but it connects us and helps us unite. I think it’s our responsibility as artists to stay as authentic and genuine as we can, so it’s very important for us to comment on what’s going on.
What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
Currently, I’m getting into acting and developing a fitness series, so be on the lookout for that, especially with the fitness series, which will be featured on my TikTok.
One last thought to leave your fans with?
Be good to people even when they are not good to you.

Australian dance maestro Odd Mob continues his upward trajectory with the release of his latest EP, “Club Rompas,” following the success of the peak time anthem “XTC.” Having already wowed crowds at Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, and various clubs across Australia, New Zealand, and the US, Odd Mob draws inspiration from his global dance floor experience, crafting a collection of tracks perfectly suited for both intimate rave caves and massive festival stages.
The EP opens with the already acclaimed single “XTC,” a club stomper that has received support from industry heavyweights such as Dom Dolla, Sarah Story, and Chris Lake. Throughout the EP, Odd Mob‘s signature bass-heavy production shines as he takes listeners on a journey to the “Underground.” A collaboration with Chicago-based bass house duo Birthdayy Partyy, the track experiments with industrial elements, featuring sirens and intense metallic synthesis leading to a powerful drop. “Guest List,” another collaboration with Chicago natives Basura Boyz, mesmerizes listeners with its hypnotic basslines, dominating the dance floor. The EP concludes with “Blisters On My Feet feat. Basura Boyz,” featuring a rolling low end and captivating vocal hooks that keep listeners locked into the groove.
Odd Mob shares his inspiration for the EP, stating, “‘Club Rompas’ does exactly what it says on the label. It’s meant to hit you hard in the club and make you dance! This EP came together after my first post-COVID tour in the US, spending 24 hours in Chicago where I collaborated with Birthdayy Partyy for the first version of ‘Underground.’ That same night, I met Basura Boyz, who later sent me some fantastic one-liners that ended up in ‘Blisters On My Feet’ and ‘Guest List.'”
With an exceptional year in North America, including two successful tours and a Coachella debut, Odd Mob has established himself as a versatile artist behind the decks and in the studio. His expertly crafted tracks have earned praise from top DJs worldwide, including John Summit, Skrillex, Diplo, and Oliver Heldens. “LEFT TO RIGHT,” his iconic club hit, received monumental support before its official release, while “Been Dreaming” caught the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Sarah Story. The momentum continues to build as Odd Mob‘s innovative productions showcase his limitless talent.
Having electrified crowds in Australia with the success of “LEFT TO RIGHT,” Odd Mob now brings his high-energy performances to headline and festival slots across Australia and New Zealand. He will also return to the US for appearances at Shambhala, Hard Summer, Sunset Music Festival, and more.
As Odd Mob‘s star continues to rise, he solidifies his position as a leading force in the global dance music scene, leaving audiences worldwide eagerly anticipating his next electrifying creations.

Los Angeles-based producer/DJ CHYL has just released her debut EP, Mini Motors, on Dim Mak. The five-track EP is a lesson in speed house; as you might surmise every track is played at a blistering tempo. However, despite the high BPM, speed house is undeniably fun, it’s impossible to not just hop around and get lost in the pulsating rhythm. Kudos to CHYL for mastering this craft.
Featuring five stellar tracks and inspired by CHYL’s love of childhood toys, Mini Motors is an essential for any workout playlist. It’s also great driving home from work music (provided you’re not sitting in traffic). The lead single “Hooyah!” is a certified banger and perfectly sets up what you’re going to experience while listening to the EP. The other single, “Barbie” is incredibly timely, of course. I personally enjoyed the trap sensibilities of “Eclipse”, and I thought that the closing track “Hachiroku” was an absolute banger that would go hard in any main stage DJ’s set.
“Mini Motors is born out of my desire to inject a lighthearted, playful energy into the world of electronic dance music.” CHYL says. “As I immersed myself in production, I often found myself reminiscing about the carefree days of my childhood, filled with toys and imaginative adventures. The idea of capturing that childlike wonder and blending it with my signature fast-paced, and fun style became the main concept for my EP. I wanted to create a collection of tracks that would transport my listeners back to their own childhood memories, where toys, like the ones on Mini Motors’ cover art, held a special place in their hearts. I drew inspiration from the rush of speed and delight of play and produced these tracks with as much vibrancy and energy as possible.”
She continues, “I hope this EP will also make you tap into your inner child and experience the exhilarating rush of a musical rollercoaster. Thank you for listening. Let’s buckle up, put on our racing goggles, and prepare to be overtaken by adrenaline as we zoom through the sonic world of Mini Motors!”
Mini Motors is out now on Dim Mak. CHYL will be opening the HARD stage at HARD Summer next weekend. Make sure to check out her set if you can!

Steve Aoki and Showtek are back with another massive, festival ready single, “Mirror Mirror.” Four years after teaming up on “Rave,” these two legendary artists are back with a darker techno single. Just because they’re experimenting with a new sound, however, doesn’t mean “Mirror Mirror” doesn’t go just as hard. In fact, you can hear a lot of Aoki and Showtek trademarks in the track. The plugin may be different, but the rhythms are undeniably Aoki and Showtek.
Along with the stellar production, we get breathy vocals from Jem Cooke that perfectly encapsulate the underground warehouse vibe of the song. She also might get the line of the year, “Mirror mirror, who’s the baddest of the them all?” Despite the darker opening part of the song, the final drop is exploding with all of the energy of a cake hitting one’s face.
“‘Mirror Mirror’ is more than just a song; it’s a sonic fusion of our creative energies, a testament to our shared passion for pushing boundaries and delivering an unforgettable experience,” Steve Aoki says. “Brace yourselves for a high-octane journey that will shatter mirrors and ignite souls on the dancefloor.”

Oliver Heldens has been a busy man this summer; playing multiple sets at world renowned festivals and pumping out a steady stream of releases under two names. Just last week, under his HI-LO alias, Oliver returned to Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label with another A/B side release “CRESCENDO”/”OPEN YOUR MIND”.
This is HI-LO’s third such offering on Drumcode, following “Hypnos/Hera” in 2021 and “Rabbit Hole” with Layton Giordani last year. “CRESCENDO” follows the HI-LO formula to a T, with a pounding kick drum, dark and vibey rhythm and creeping synths.
“My aim was to craft something hypnotic, dark, and trippy while maintaining a melodic and groovy essence,” Oliver says. “Personally, ‘CRESCENDO’ is one of those tracks I can play on an endless loop without getting tired of it. It has been exhilarating to witness the overwhelming response to the track in my HI-LO sets and in Adam’s sets at Time Warp in Germany and Brazil.”
“OPEN YOUR MIND” is an energetic banger that will get you grooving to the beat. The trademark HI-LO kick drum is there to open the track, but the bassline and unrelenting beat take center stage on this track. Not surprisingly, this is a track that has made it into Oliver’s more mainstream sets. Regardless of genre, “Open Your Mind” is a certifiable banger.
“After months of road testing and fine-tuning, I am beyond excited about the final result.” Oliver added of “OPEN YOUR MIND. “I’ve had a blast playing this track not only in my HI-LO sets but also in several ‘mainstage’ sets as Oliver Heldens.”
Check out the latest from HI-LO “CRESCENDO/OPEN YOUR MIND” out now on Drumcode. Make sure to check out HI-LO’s upcoming summer tour dates as well.

Fresh off a massive performance at Tomorrowland’s mainstage, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are back with the first single, “She Knows”, from their upcoming debut studio album. “She Knows” is the perfect leadoff track for their upcoming album, Rewind + Repeat, as it’s a wonderful shot of nostalgia. DVLM teamed up with longtime collaborator and fellow superstar, David Guetta, as well as Akon. Guetta and Akon first teamed up back in 2009 for “Sexy Bitch” one of the first true crossover pop/EDM hits.
The production on the track is pretty minimal, there’s a light synth rhythm and a moderate buildup, but overall Akon’s vocals are allowed to really shine. Needless to say, this makes this a very radio/streaming friendly song. The final product is extremely pleasant to listen to; if you remember the TRL days like I do, Akon’s vocals are instantly satisfying. Again, simplicity; it’s just Akon crooning about a woman who knows how attractive she is. No matter how much things change, they always stay the same.
“It’s so great to team up with David again for this summer anthem – we’re also huge Akon fans, so to bring those two back together on our collaboration is next level for us.” DVLM say. “The sample from The Sunclub’s ‘Fiesta’ is part of our musical history and journey and sets the tone of what we want to achieve with our upcoming album: going back to our roots!”
Check out the latest from Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike x David Guetta x Afro Bros, “She Knows” with Akon, out now on Smash the House. Stay tuned for more singles from the upcoming album, other confirmed collaborators include Armin van Buuren and Lil Jon. You can also catch them on the Tomorrowland live stream this Saturday as well.

The artist known to the drum & bass world as Moleman has always done things his own way. Releasing mostly on the grassroots label Fat Tape records since he began with this moniker in 2011, Moleman has lived up to his name as he’s generally shirked the limelight and big labels, preferring to do his own A&R and work with people who support his vision. Hiw music speaks for itself, however, and he’s still managed to become a household name in liquid D&B and is a favorite on Liquicity radio, BBC Radio and 1Extra, DJ Mag, et al.
The upcoming release of Moleman’s new project, a full-length LP called Duality due out this week on July 30, is no exception to his track record of doing things his own way. He’s self-releasing this 13-track album, which studies the two different sides of his work, hence the name. The first part of Duality is more energetic and pop-driven, while the second half is introspective and ambient. Let’s not cast aspersions based on that description, however: all the tracks on Duality are still up to Moleman’s high standards of production, sound design and flowy, melodic liquid.
The opening track on Duality, entitled “This Feeling” opens with quite an existential sample about perception, so even though Moleman considers the second half of the album to be the more contemplative side, fans might find themselves in a deep think even while they dance to the fast snares, celestial melodies and insane ameny breakdowns. The next track, “Beautiful Dreamer” has a similar, semi-trippy spoken word opener that may remind some dreampop fans of M83’s earlier work but it’s got that 174 pitch that is the heartbeat of any D&B head.
174 is certainly not the only tempo on Duality. Moleman draws from his work in other genres to bring dubstep, future bass and even trip hop bits into tracks like “Take On the World” and “Solar Flare.” Every track is distinctively his, however, with that instantly recognizable, lighter-than-air sound design and those crisp drumlines. By the end of the album, listeners will have bee taken on a journey through the best of liquid D&B and through the mind of Moleman.
YEDM managed to get a hold of “Starlight,” a celestially-inspired track from the second part of Duality which contains some of the fastest secondary snares ever heard juxtaposed with a vintage sample used in hip hop and rave music for nearly four decades, taken from an audio recording of an audience member during a performance of Lyn Collins’s “Think (About It) in 1972. It somehow blends seamlessly into this 2023 liquid track and gives it that ravey edge for which Moleman is known.

Moleman · Moleman – Starlight (Your EDM Premiere) Duality is really a study on the many way liquid is still a very big part of the beating heart of drum & bass, pulling melody and influence from so many bygone eras and turning it into something beautiful for the modern ear. As one of the masters of the subgenre, Moleman is not only showing the many facets of his own career but of liquid and drum & bass on the whole. Expect to hear something from this album at every festival and sunrise set this season and into the future; it’s an instant classic.
Duality drops on July 30 and is available to pre-order on Bandcamp or to pre-save on Spotify.

The term “ambient” gets batted around quite a bit in electronic music, whether it’s to describe background sound design, a certain style of synth or melody or even the mood of a piece. There is, however, still a pretty strong self-defining ambient genre within electronica, though artists’ adherence to that format seems to be in varying degrees. On one end of the spectrum is meditation music or new age work that’s largely beatless and meant for relaxation. On the other end are acts like Moby, Enigma and Bonobo, who have added EDM bits to their work to create more pop cachet. Somewhere it the middle of that spectrum is where Gianfranco Finds himself.
Rather than releasing a long-play album as he did with his first endeavor in 2014, the indie-electronica fusion album Love Is Rain, Pescetti took a page from the current streaming and playlist culture’s book and decided to release his new string of tracks one by one, starting in January with the synthy, new wave-tinged “Sundog.” With this track and the ensuing works, “Clownspunk,” a cheeky electronica cover of “Fly Me to the Moon” and his latest, “The Wake,” Pescetti seems to have ditched the more indie side of things (as well as his vocals, for now) and become a full-time ambient EDM artist.
There’s still a good glug of vintage synth and tune work in these new tracks, but for now, it looks like Pescetti intendss to explore the depths of ambient music, especially with “The Wake.”

From the innovative mind of Melbourne-native Robbie Bergin, Throttle exploded onto the electronic music circuit at just 14-years-old, when he signed his first song. Fast-forward to today, he has racked over 300 million streams on Spotify alone and has dazzled crowds across the world’s biggest stages, from Tomorrowland to EDC Las Vegas.
He recently took a hiatus, over the past year, as Throttle expanded his influence in the fashion community, while traveling and embracing his love for nature, art, and culture. These adventures have led to a whirlpool of inspiration which he has poured into his latest single, “I Walk This Earth All By Myself,” signed to Monstercat.
A fusion of his musical roots and new-age sound design, this may be Throttle’s most sophisticated work to date. It surpasses already high expectations with its glimmering vocals, and captivating effects, and a riveting bassline that collectively draw on his unrivaled passion and creativity.

Waxman (CA) has turned out to be a frequent face on David Hohme’s beautiful ‘Where The Heart Is’ imprint, consistently delivering dreamy tunes that have resonated with fans all over the world.
He recently returned to the label to release a two-track EP, titled ‘Home’, that is yet another incredible work of art from this talented artist. The EP is delicate and dreamy journey, with the title track featuring original vocals by his friend and collaborator Will RP Melville. It’s a blissed out gem while the second track “Remedy” explores the deeper spectrum of house with soothing melodies and a tranquil ambiance.
We had a chance to chat with Waxman about the EP and what’s ahead – check it out below!
You collaborated with Will RP Melville on this track. What quality do you think his vocals contribute to the track compared to using samples from Splice or Loopmaster?
I’ve worked with Will Melville on quite a few songs and projects over the years – he’s an immensely talented multi-instrumentalist as well as a vocalist. I’ve also used royalty-free vocals on a fair few of my tunes. To me, there’s something that just feels more authentic and heartfelt when a vocalist writes original lyrics and vocal lines to a piece of my music. I think it adds heart, soul, and feeling to a song (as well as authenticity). It’s sometimes hard to describe but I definitely end up feeling prouder and more attached to the tunes I make with actual vocalist collaborators as opposed to sampled vocals. I guess I feel like it creates a stronger connection between the vocals and the music, which in turn helps create a stronger connection between the listener and the song.
What emotional message were you trying to convey in this release? What do you want the listeners to take away from the music?
The music I wrote for ‘Home’ came from me trying to capture the oh-so-popular feeling of nostalgia that we all love to latch onto and float in these days (I’m certainly partial anyway). I was so excited when Will sent me his vocals because he obviously felt the same way with the lyrics he wrote. They add to the feeling and let listeners form their own connections – to whatever their own nostalgic ‘home’ might be. With ‘Remedy’ I wanted a similar sort of feeling but kept things positive and a bit more upbeat and energetic. I feel like the tracks balance each other nicely while also pairing in tonality and mood.
Which qualities in a label do you prioritize? What about David Hohme’s Where The Heart Is Records made you know they would be a good home for this release?
This will be my fourth release on Where The Heart Is Records and I have no doubt it will not be my last. Both David and label manager Will Vance really care about each track they release on the label. With this EP even, when I sent over my demos, they let me know they loved them but that there were a few things that needed fine-tuning if I was up for that. Personally I’m a huge fan of getting extra ears and feedback on my tracks, so I jumped on the opportunity to improve these and I couldn’t be happier with the end result – the tracks turned out better than ever! I love working with labels that give feedback and include the artist in the release process, etc. There’s clearly real work going on behind the scenes with Where The Heart Is to make sure every release has the best chance to succeed and get heard by people who will love the music and they work with their artists to figure out how best to facilitate this. Labels that really care of their music are the best to work with because of course, I really care about my music too.
Where did the inspiration behind the leading single of this EP come from? Share a personal story that fans may not know about your personal connection to this release.
That might be more a question for Will in terms of lyrics but I have my own interpretation and meaning that I formed as the track took shape. We finalized the tune in the months leading up to me making a huge life move from Toronto, Canada to Melbourne, Australia so I couldn’t help but associate thoughts of my own leaving home and finding a new place to call home. It definitely still feels that way when I play it out over here in one of the furthest places in the world from my home.
What is next for you and your artist project? Any other cool updates or gigs in the pipeline?
I spent a lot of time working on remixes this past year which was fun but I’ve been moving back to working more primarily on original stuff and kind of slowing down on rushing to release music every month (as much fun as that can be). I’m trying to really push myself and progress my sound and production, which is a never-ending journey – but definitely one that I love. One recent highlight for me was a gig I played last month where I played an hour and a half set that was exclusively my own original music (no remixes even). It was pretty cool to be able to go through my own catalogue and create a bit of a journey in style and energy from it. And the dance floor seemed to be on board, so that was a lot of fun. Probably not an every-set thing, but I definitely plan on playing another all-Waxman selection some time soon!

‘So Good’ is the next single to see release from the forthcoming My Friends EP by Swedish producers and long-time friends, Tobtok and farfetch’d. Following in the vein of its experimental predecessor ‘I Like When You’, which received loving feedback from tastemakers ranging from Auntie Flo to Sam Divine, ‘So Good’ is an alarmingly refreshing release. Into a high-energy stutter house track it packs in a styled-up drill beat with an uplifting choir vocal, to show yet again that these producers are on the most accomplished streak of their careers so far.
Over six tracks, the forthcoming ‘My Friends’ EP – due for release on London-based indie Perfect Havoc in September – is a diverse and exciting body of work that spans disco, breakbeat, drum and bass and house in the flavours of stutter, French and filter.
With a catalogue of work that precedes them, it’s important to remove all preconceptions of what Tobtok and farfetch’d have done before. Forget their platinum-selling records, streaming numbers and chart positions, just listen to the result of when they start producing for the pure fun of it.
On their latest single, Tobtok aka Tobias Karlsson, candidly tells the story of its creative journey.
So Good started out completely differently, like a tribalesque record with almost Spanish vibes and with me singing the lead in falsetto. It sounded so awkward that we completely changed it!
After we ditched that initial idea, we were joking around saying, let’s do a “trendy” stutter house record, but not taking ourselves remotely seriously. We upped the BPMs and created a little drill beat in the verse. We landed on a choir vocal which I think is what makes it sound so unique.
Like with the previous track, we’re not trying to sound like anything. So Good is obviously inspired by the stutter house movement, but really, we’re just having fun.”
Tobtok has always worked in his own lane, from his early nu disco signings to highly respected French label Kitsuné– who released his only EP to date, ‘Savanna’ – to his more dancefloor-geared signings to Selected as heard on ‘My Carousel’. There have been plenty of nods to the Swede’s talents over the years, from specialist spins from Pete Tong and Zane Lowe, to being asked to curate Toolroom’s Miami Poolside compilation.
Although still early on in their career farfetch’d aka Jerry Sjödin and Johnny Bergström have been making waves of their own. Taking influence from old-time childhood heroes and fusing the feelings of the past with those of today, their music spans genres and is always drenched in love and happiness. Just check out their releases on Spinnin’, Axtone and Soave for evidence.
Tobtok and farfetch’d go way back to when they first bonded over their love of nu disco and French house when meeting at a student club night and have since produced together on singles for Selected and Perfect Havoc.
Tobtok and farfetch’d have already spoken about what to expect from the new EP, where they go all out with technique, playing around with sampling, micro-sampling live sounds, and manipulating and pitching vocals.
“The concept was to do something really playful”, Tobtok explains, “We experimented with new ways of thinking. We tried not to think about what’s going to stream or what’s gonna go viral on TikTok, we just wanted to make music that we like.”
‘So Good’ by Tobtok & farfetch’d is released 21st July on Perfect Havoc. Pre-save here https://perfecthavoc.lnk.to/sogood

There’s been a rash of extra-cool, electronically-infused post punk-esque artists coming seemingly from all over the globe lately, and we are YEDM are here for it. With lofi beats, an offshoot of trip hop, being so popular the last few years, it’s only stands to reason that some artists would bring in the lowest of lofi, the maudlin melodies. Post punk artists like Nick Cave or Joy Division, for those who will recall, actually depended quite heavily on synthesizers in their heyday. While we now think of more stripped back sounds, these newer artists are updating those synths for modern ears, bringing in chaos and irony in a new way. With only an EP and a single to his name thus far, German producer and vocalist K4LT may be shaping up to be one of the best of this set, as his work folds punk into post punk, lofi into industrial and classic, Moog and 808 style into the digital era.
K4LT released his first EP, the paradoxically named Endgame, in 2021. This EP showcased his skills as a master of the radio pop, a bygone sound from century-old recordings that many artists have weaponized as part of a beat or an interesting phrase transition. K4LT uses them for both, and his beats range from the afore-mentioned trip hop to trap to industrial beats. The latter, in Endgame‘s closing track “Fugae” is particularly impressive because with said industrial beat, the ancient radio pops, loads of vintage synths and some pretty heavy guitar, he still manages to keep the track decidedly lofi.
On the other end of what we now know is the lofi spectrum (K4LT having pushed that boundary for us), or seemingly so, is the Endgame‘s opening track, “Boarding Pass.” With a very basic beat and beatific vocals, upon listening to the first part of this track, the average lofi fan would think it’s standard, but then another feedback-heavy guitar comes in, this time more shoegazey and chaotic. In fact, all of the tracks on Endgame contain guitars, ranging from haunting and more junkyard country, like in “Extinction Aphelion” to positively grungy in “Loading Screen.”
From Endgame, a unique style begins to emerge from K4LT, but fans of the first EP shouldn’t expect the same in his new single, “LCPD.” Much more shoegazey in both form and function, “LCPD” has a more definitive trip hop structure to the beat with some drone play as well. Here the influence from acts like Radiohead and Gorillaz is really present, along with lofi techno vibes taken from K4LT’s hometown of Berlin. The effect is soft yet punctuated, with composition seems more intentional on this track but still with lashings of experimental sound design. Also likely the most delicate track in his visible discography, K4LT has said “LCPD” was inspired by the tension and emotions behind an “amicable” breakup. The careful yet emotional nature of this track may have been meant to reflect the difficulty that lies in such a tricky relationship maneuver, and if it was, it was very well done.
It seems the experimental mature of K4LT’s work has already led him to create diverse, multi-layered work that will resonate with post punks, the indie-loving lofi crowd, vintage synth lovers and music science buffs. That’s a pretty good cross section to tap into, and “LCPD” certainly isn’t K4LT’s final form. Whatever he has in store for his next release, fans can expect it to utilize the radio pop, his many and sundry musical skills and a good heap of emotionality.
“LCPD” and the rest of K4LT’s discography can be streamed on Spotify or purchased on Bandcamp.

The boys are back, baby! This time around, Nick Ditri and Danny Boselovic, who make up the DJ/producer duo Disco Fries, have unleashed their highly anticipated third album ‘Another World.’
We’ve been on the edge of our seat since hearing the lead single “Love You Loud” with dance music icon Ferry Corsten featuring Leon Stanford. We’ve eager to hear what NYC duo Disco Fries have in store and they did not disappoint.
Another World takes you on a musical journey from start-to-finish, as many truly consistent bodies of work do. Starting things off with a big vocal, the album’s title track, “Another World,” will reel listeners in from the very beginning. The LP continues with other vocal-heavy songs, dance-floor-ready tracks, progressive tunes, subdued & subtle cuts, and radio-friendly anthems, making it an album that showcases a motley mix of electronic music sub-genres and fits many moods. To commemorate the release of Another World, Disco Fries hosted an advance album listening party event at an on-the-water brewery venue in New Jersey, ahead of the album’s official release.
We also had the chance to speak with them about the album and what’s ahead for this year. Check it out below!
How has your Berklee education impacted your careers? Do you still find yourself using techniques you’ve learned there?
Danny: We owe a lot to Berklee and can safely say we wouldn’t exist as a duo had we not met there. It laid a great foundation for songwriting, knowledge of music theory, and fundamentals of mixing and sound design. While it didn’t all apply directly to what we do today it certainly gave us a leg up on other producers coming onto the scene at the same time as us.
Nick: Berklee was huge for us to get started, understand the basics of mixing, composition, and putting sounds together. I will also say, any formal education in music doesn’t properly prepare you for what’s coming. In a creative business that changes so rapidly, how could it? There is so much we had to unlearn and relearn from working with most collaborators who might not have formal training and work by ear, to the business of music which is always a silly game. There are so many nuances to what we do that you can’t teach in a book and you have to learn by doing but without a doubt Berklee helped us have a bit of a head start.
Since the release of your last album, in what ways would you say you guys have matured sonically as well as personally?
Nick: I think we have evolved as artists so much since our last album, but at our core we’re still just two goons messing around with sounds until we land on something where we both say “YO THAT’S DOPE!”. We haven’t lost the fun, the spontaneity, or really just giving zero f*cks about making whatever we want. In the beginning of our career, it always felt like walking on egg shells when we’d bounce around genre’s, but as time has passed I think we’re now just to a point where we are even more comfortable being us. I think that not only comes with time in the business of music but also with getting older, maturing and being more sure of our decisions. We realize that not every song will be a SMASH and that’s ok. We can always make another one. That’s typically our number one piece of advice to up and coming artists. You are an artist… if a song doesn’t land, there’s always tomorrow, you have plenty more tunes in you.
What does your new album ‘Another World’ mean to you guys? Do you have a personal favorite track from the LP and why?
Nick: Another World means a tremendous amount to me. In a time where our industry is dictated by singles, putting out a complete body of work is almost seen as rebellious. It’s strange but it is what it is. We feel nostalgic about albums and putting together a body of work still feels like the right thing to do both as artists and for the fans. Another World tells the story of our last 12-18 months putting these songs together, the influences we had over that amount of time, the writers we worked with, and experiences we had all pour out in the songs. This is the first album we’ve done where my favorite song changes every week but I’d say at the moment “The Edge” with Sarah de Warren is really hitting nicely.
In what still remains a somewhat singles-driven industry, what made you decide to release a full-length LP?
Danny: Definitely agree that dance music is largely singles driven but personally I like the idea of working towards a larger body of work. It’s motivation for us to work through all of the ideas and drafts we have kicking around on our computers to finish up the best of them. It also serves as a snapshot of our sound and style at this moment in time.
Do you guys tend to work on music together in person more than virtually, or vice versa?
Danny: When we first started we worked on almost everything together. It was important to develop a sound together that blended our musical backgrounds. Over the years, I moved around a lot first in NJ, then NYC, and ultimately back to VA where I grew up and with each move we worked less in person as travel between studios became a hassle. Now we work almost exclusively remotely but since we spent so many years in the studio together we have a solid understanding of what the Disco Fries sound is and where we’d take tracks musically. Of course we still do virtual sessions, bounce ideas off of each other as we go, and take turns getting our hands on the mixes throughout but none of it really requires both of us in the studio simultaneously.
Over the years, what would you say have become some of your studio routines, rituals, or things that might help light the creative spark?
Danny: It used to be as simple as getting in the studio, listening to lots of music, and if I got stuck I’d jump on YouTube to watch tutorials and other stuff for inspiration. Now I don’t have the time to hang out for hours waiting for inspiration to strike so I’m a lot more focused in the studio. Getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating like a reasonable person surprisingly go a long way and have really helped me be more productive with the time I have in the studio.
Nick: I love being under the gun in the studio. Getting a last minute project, sync opportunity, or just an idea that we have to turn out with quick decisions, really gets me going. Sometimes it’s nice to place artificial deadlines on projects just to force ourselves to hone in and not f*ck around.
To date, what are some of your stand-out career moments or accomplishments that you still sometimes can’t believe happened to you?
Danny: Working with Tiësto on his 5th studio album, A Town Called Paradise, will forever be a highlight for me. He was one of the first names I knew in dance music and his 2007 album Elements of Life was hugely influential to Nick and I when we first started making music together.
Nick: I agree with Danny. That experience with Tiesto really set it off. What that did for us to grow as producers, artists, and in the business of music has been second to none. In addition to that, I’d have to say some of our first touring experiences in Asia and clubs in the States like Pacha (we miss you), Avalon, Encore, and so many others, really resonated with us and helped us develop as live artists. The newness of playing a show in a new market, at a highly influential venue still is special for us.
In addition to your Disco Fries artist project, you work with producers on your Finish My Track service. How did this come to fruition and why should a rising DJ/producer choose FMT?
Nick: We started Finish My Track a couple years ago along with the live stream to help both up and coming producers and established finish their records. I’d say the majority of artists get stuck in that last 20% of the song, making decisions to finalize a mix, figuring out what sounds need to be swapped out, and what ultimately works and doesn’t work. We’ve done this on hundreds of records over the last decade so we wanted to create a service that really knocks it out of the park for artists who might need the help. For the rising producers, we just created a premium member subscription where we’re helping give them the tools to finish and release records. We’re doing monthly sample pack downloads, stems, tutorials, group calls, and fee-free distribution so they don’t have to shell out money out of pocket just to put a record out.
How good of a matching is disco with fries? Do you suggest ketchup with them as well or is there another sauce?
Danny: I’ll never turn down fries if offered so they’re good for basically every occasion. We recently even had them handed out mid-set during our show at Djais in Belmar, NJ. When it comes to dipping, ketchup is the classic but I’m down with almost anything. Mayo, malt vinegar, cheese, gravy, there isn’t really any way to go wrong.
Nick: Give this man a soapbox, we need the masses to hear this information!
