Back in 2011, Lenny Kravitz dropped his ninth studio album ‘Black and White America’ that featured the track ‘Superlove’ which was a chilled-out funk song that only a year later would take on a very different feel. In 2012 Avicii released his take on the song that was adored by fans and would continue his success in the charts across the early 2010’s.
Avicii was already on a roll following on from releasing some of his most loved songs such as ‘Levels’, ‘I Could Be The One’ and ‘Silhouettes.’ With ‘Superlove’ Avicii would succeed in making yet another unforgettable track that would maintain the funky vibe of the original with plenty of house energy injected into to make it an unmistakably Avicii track. Through this track he would hit the charts in Belgium, The Netherlands, Hungary and even reached number 2 on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
The melody that feels like it’s bouncing around your head while you’re listening to it is one that wont soon be forgotten and is synonymous with the legendary Swedish DJ’s style. Though not one of his most famous songs, ‘Superlove’ is another wonderful song to be able to go back to in Avicii’s catalogue of amazing tracks. Although he is gone, the love for him from fans and collaborators still remains as was shown from the outpouring of adoration for him following his death including a short but sweet tribute from Lenny Kravitz saying, “Rest In Peace and Superlove.”

Jason Ross is back in the iconic label Ophelia imprint with the release of his latest single ‘Under Pressure’, this time together with DJ and producer Kill The Noise, blending the best of their styles. Following Jason’s singles ‘No Tomorrow‘ and ’21’ and Kill’s ‘Feel The Vibe’ and ‘Make It Wobble’, this track weaves through groovy Progressive beats, Melodic Bass, and Trance-inspired breakdowns with the melodic vocals by Sarah de Warren. Available now on your favorite platform.
We can’t doubt that Jason Ross is one of Dance music’s premier acts, while being one of the scene’s more elusive representatives. An essential characteristic of the producer is to leave the public in expectation at all times, due to the immense versatility in each of his productions. This new track is no exception. Once again, the producer presents his diverse range of production skills while jumping between Ophelia and Anjunabeats as if it were nothing. He handles different genres and mixes, mashing them to obtain results that place him on top of the uplifting and melodic side of Bass music and Trance.
Although he is not the only artist shining this time. Kill The Noise is also one of the leading acts in Electronic music, having worked consistently with artists such as Dillon Francis, deadmau5, AWOLNATION, and Skrillex. In 2022, Kill The Noise made his return with EMBRACE, his sophomore album and first in seven years. The album was accompanied by Kill The Noise’s 27-city tour to promote the record. We can’t forget classics like ‘The Blood’, ‘Horizon’, and ‘Returning To You’.
At the same time, we cannot ignore the great work that Sarah de Warren has done in the last few years. She is a regular collaborator with artists such as Kaskade, Mike Perry, and Excision. Her voice is synonymous with a work of excellent quality that will elevate our senses to the highest level, something that precedes what awaits us when listening to the collaboration.
Ripe with emotion, most of them related to anger and anxiety — much like the title can underline us before giving a listening —, ‘Under Pressure’ waves “hi” with a beautiful instrumental synth pattern that grows into a Melodic Dubstep stomper, and is primed to cover the global dancefloor this summer. It delivers a starkly uplifting track that completely allows the sounds and composition to take control of your senses. The beginning is ominous, building up through the first verse before Kill The Noise steps in with a healthy dose of Dubstep about a minute in, although later it eases the energy with a melodic atmosphere and Sarah’s charming vocals.
We honestly get so lost listening to this track. The fusion of contrasting production styles works so well in this song. You can listen to Jason Ross, Kill The Noise, and Sarah de Warren’s ‘Under Pressure‘ below!

A six-track EP by NGHTMRE just came out. The sophomore edition of his collaboration-fueled NGHTMRE – UNSOUND series features fellow Bass maestros such as Rezz, Liquid Stranger, Franky Nuts, Ace Aura, and more. The EP release follows NGHTMRE’s EDC Las Vegas headlining set at the Basspod Stage.
A decade into his career, Trap/Dubstep kingpin NGHTMRE is still finding ways to push his artist project into new directions. No small feat given his long list of impressive accomplishments.
Since launching his NGHTMRE moniker 10 years ago, the LA-based producer/DJ/label boss has cemented his status as a visionary harbinger of the global Bass music community, boasting performances at Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, and Bonnaroo; securing a tenured residency at Hakkasan Las Vegas; co-founding his GUD VIBRATIONS imprint with SLANDER; and collaborating with superstars like ZHU, A$AP Ferg, The Chainsmokers, Gunna, Zeds Dead, Tory Lanez, and more.
Now, fresh off his EDC Las Vegas headlining set at the BassPod, NGHTMRE unveils UNSOUND 2, the newest installment in his tastemaking EP series. Launched in 2022 with its inaugural edition, the UNSOUND concept is a vessel for cultivating cross-genre collaborations and championing emerging dubstep acts. This multi-purpose project showcases NGHTMRE’s world-class production and curatorial talents.
“The UNSOUND projects are all about collaboration“, says NGHTMRE. “I reached out to some of my favorite producers from all over the world for this EP. I really tried not to think too much on a specific genre or boundary for this, and just focused on writing what felt cool and inspiring“.

NGHTMRE — UNSOUND: Tracks And Collaborations
On a mission to pave the way for the next generation of Dubstep and Trap artists, the passionate tastemaker uses his UNSOUND series to platform hotly-tipped talents who will help push the Bass genre forward.
On UNSOUND 2, NGHTMRE amalgamates Bass juggernauts with rising stars to create a propulsive package of textural soundscapes. The 6-track EP matches its varied aesthetic palette with an appropriately lavish scope, brimming with boisterous beats and gripping sound design.
The EP’s grandiose, opulent approach is exemplified on tracks such as ‘TORTURE‘, a collaboration with Dutch Bass prodigy Franky Nuts and goth-inspired vocalist DeathbyRomy. Kicking off with lush piano chord progressions that underline DeathbyRomy’s haunting opening verse. The track builds with atmospheric textures and ascending synths before dropping into a section of massive, syncopated bass rhythms. This jagged soundscape contributes to the track’s cathartic unease.
The rest of UNSOUND 2’s tracklist is filled with similarly forward-thinking, ferocious presentations. The EP’s opening track ´In Your Eyes´ is a collaboration with experimental Bass purveyor Jon Casey and producer/vocalist Pauline Herr. NGHTMRE taps some of the most in-demand up-and-coming acts to create a towering sonic arena full of distorted, growling bass wubs and thunderous, trunk-rattling percussion.
Bold, audacious, and immaculately constructed, UNSOUND 2 is a spellbinding exhibition of NGHTMRE’s collaborative production prowess. Showcasing the curatorial maestro’s penchant for marshaling his beloved Bass scene toward exciting new heights.

No stranger to the electronic dance music scene, iFeature has been releasing music for over 8 years now and has earned himself a super loyal following through that music. His openness and willingness to explore new directions and take his sound to the next level has saw him release music from deep house to dubstep and electro to drum & bass, with drum & bass really being his flavor at the moment. Now shortly after launching his own record label, Athos, iFeature appears as the vocalist alongside JJL on the brand new single‘What I Would Be’.
iFeature last appeared with his 4th album titled ‘Forbidden’ and this new single together with JJL almost feels like an unofficial follow up. The single began its journey with JJL in 2023 and it didn’t take long for him to loop in iFeature and it was taken to the next level. With JJL having laid the perfect groundwork with the instrumental, it was time for them to work side by side on the vocals and it wasn’t long before the finished product was ready for the world. The collaboration brings a stirring blend of emotional depth and high-octane rhythm, setting a new standard in the drum & bass genre.

German DJ and producer Felix Jaehn has teamed up once again with singer-songwriter Jasmine Thompson for their new track “Without You,” a breezy pop-dance melody nine years in the making. The track marks a reunion for the duo, following their successful collaboration on 2015’s hit “Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better).”
“Without You” represents the personal and professional growth both artists have experienced over the past nine years, rekindling their friendship and creative synergy. A wistful guitar solo leads on the bubbly single, setting the stage for Felix’s organic production style and an upbeat four-on-the-floor bassline. Jasmine’s emotive vocals shine among the delicately lilting melodies. The collaboration swiftly moved from concept to reality after Felix shared the initial idea with Jasmine. The pair note that returning to the studio brought back the same energy of their original collaborating days. Together again, they’ve crafted a song that captures what made ‘Ain’t Nobody’ so popular — a song that taps the feel good essence of summer.

On Friday around 1,000 protesters gathered in Ibiza to rally against mass tourism. “We want a limit on new tourist places and a ban on more illegal flats. Fewer flats on the market mean higher prices,” explained Rafael Gimenez, spokesperson for Prou Ibiza, the group behind the protest.
The wave of protests continued on Saturday, with thousands of residents in the Balearic Islands voicing their concerns as the summer season approaches. With banners reading “SOS Residents” and “Enough Mass Tourism,” protesters marched through Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the largest Balearic Island. Around 10,000 people joined the demonstration, according to a Spanish National Police spokesperson.
“We want the authorities to stop people who haven’t lived here for at least five years from buying properties and to enforce stricter controls on holiday accommodations,” Carme Reines, a member of the group that organized the Palma protest, told Reuters.
The Balearic Islands, which attracted 14.4 million tourists last year, rely heavily on tourism, which accounts for 45% of the region’s GDP. However, the influx of visitors has led to overcrowded streets, environmental degradation, and soaring housing prices. Adding to the tension, new regulations have been introduced in Majorca and Ibiza to curb excessive behavior. These include a ban on public alcohol consumption between 9:30 PM and 8 AM, with fines up to $1,500 USD for violations.
The protests reflect a broader frustration with the impact of mass tourism on local communities, as residents seek a balance between welcoming visitors and maintaining their quality of life. With the summer season approaching, the call for sustainable tourism in the Balearic Islands is louder than ever.

Cool, calm, crisp and incisive. For half a decade now Wingz has graced the scene with his mercilessly methodical production, interwoven with soulful rhythms and grooves, ultimately soaring into the stratosphere of respected scene legend.
A true master of the craft, we’ve seen him release on a number of labels, moving effortlessly between the sounds and styles of the genre sphere, but it’s his development with Overview Music that has set him apart. A jewel in the stable of the Brighton/Bristol-based label, with many EPs, singles and star-studded collaborations under his belt, the Austrian artist based in Vienna undertook his biggest challenge yet and now releases his debut LP ‘Ghost’. A complete masterpiece that flies to the highest heavens and dives to the darkest depths, in a much-anticipated body of work that demonstrates his signature sound whilst flexing the full might of his production prowess.
We sat down to reflect on the journey so far, translucent beings, BLT sandwiches, manga and everything music.
Howdy Markus, Congratulations on the album! How was the busy weekend of shows?
The launch party was on Friday, every one of my friends were happily invited to bring a USB stick and plug themselves in. It wasn’t a club thing, just a cool gig at Planet Wax. I just wanted it to be fun, have some bevs, and celebrate the album. I played in London the next day at Curated with Ed:it which was fun and my first time at Bermondsey Social Club. Then on Saturday, the obligatory Volks in Brighton.
You’ve been busy! So tell us, what’s the number one thing you have to have with you on your travels?
My Nintendo Switch Lite.
What do you play?
These days? Mostly just Mario Kart 8. I just finished Tears of the Kingdom (Legend of Zelda). Delta Rune, from the Undertale creator – very, very old school louche. I just bought Final Fantasy 6… I bring my laptop as well but on flights, you don’t really have a lot of space.
Anything to distract you from being on a Ryanair flight. Then before that, you played at your first Get In Step night and Overview in Prague…
Prague was fun – probably one of the best international Overview shows so far I reckon. The venue was pretty much catered towards the sounds of Overview and towards crowds with an ear for the sounds. Get In Step was really cool, played tunes from my friends, new tunes from myself and from the LP –   just like a good mixture.
I always like to play varied sets so I always sneak in a few liquid tunes because I think it’s important to not have the same level of… not attitude but the same level of intensity, because I think if you play super high energy sets, mixing tunes every 32 bars, quick mixing and the same kind of sound, it’s not going to engage people because it’s losing its impact. It makes a lot of difference when you sneak in a smoother tune in between because then the next tune is going to hit that much harder.
You’ve been playing out for 12 years now. For all the budding DJ’s out there, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned?
I learned how to DJ in 2008 – some time ago ha ha! I started by getting into the intros slots at the local venues, joining the local crews. Yeah, I’d say just be yourself. Get your own selections together. Don’t copy anyone. Just find tunes you like and go from there. And start learning to read crowds and, especially as a local, you’ll probably have to cater a bit more to the crowd depending on the event and the venue.
As an artist, you do have the freedom in your selection because you’re mostly getting booked for you and your sound. But playing as a local, you might have to be a bit more flexible depending on the crew.
And look at you now! But yes, learn how to read the crowd, read the vibe.
Haha. You also have to deal with your ego I think as well. Because obviously as a new DJ you want to prove yourself, et cetera. But you’re not proving anything if you play heavy tunes half past opening time. Warm-up in itself is an art form for me and some of the best sets I’ve seen were warm up sets. You’ve got to warm up the night and start it properly. Not a lot of people can do that justice actually, in my opinion.
Anyone in particular we should know about?
Just some locals in Vienna mostly, but I’ve been surprised many times in other countries. I usually get to events super early, go for dinner with the promoters and get down to the club right away. So I’m there from before it opens and I just check out the vibe and listen to the selections of the crew which is always really interesting. I can usually tell what they’re into and if my own set will be good or I’m going to alienate the crowd.
D&B Sherlock, doing your research. But crucially, what’s the number one thing on your rider?
My number one thing… I have peanuts or cashews. Maybe a banana. It’s usually number one but I didn’t want to say alcohol right away.
I know of one artist who asked for a BLT sandwich with toasted bread, the works.
They’re clearly not getting dinner beforehand.
Probably not. If you could have anything in the world on your rider, what would you ask for?
Good question… let’s circle back.
Let’s talk about Ghost. How long have you been working on it? What’s the story behind this one?
The oldest tune on the album is about two years old. I started it around two years ago, and I’ve been writing tunes, like all the time since it is my full time job, basically. Thanks to Patreon. The tunes just started to pile up and I just tried out, which ones go well together. And I just went from there, like, starting to develop kind of a theme for it. Which is why the name is Ghost, which is a play on being introverted in the club scene.
Yeah, I’m super introverted. I sometimes have a hard time talking to people. I stand by in the crowd – nowadays, it’s a lot better but I’m still more often just floating about like a ghost. A translucent being. Being there, but nobody really sees you.
Ghosts and introverts are powerful beings indeed. Did you have this theme in mind when coming up with the order of the tracks on the LP?
The way I did the tracklisting for the LP, some of the titles do reflect my thoughts behind the whole thing after being in the scene for, like 16 years. Parting is kind of like a breakup song almost – very melancholic and sad. I wanted it to almost be like old SpectralSoul or Calibre.
The track Ghost especially does reflect this, which is why I named the album after that. It’s an intro skit, very atmospheric and kind of Burial-esque with the pads and atmosphere.. because most albums have this little intro skit maybe some interludes as well in between. For me, I wanted to have a fuselighter to setup the rest of the album. Also when I wrote the track I wrote this big ambient part, the whole intro before I even started the drop, which was very unorthodox for me at that time.
Usually I’m very straightforward when it comes to making tunes because I’m super sound design driven. So usually 80% of the time when I make music, or sit in front of the computer, I make sounds. So I’ll make drum loops and make bases and make pads, whatever so that when I’m creative, I can work quickly and get an idea down before it runs away. I probably spend most of my time on drums because it’s very important for drums to sound right, especially in minimal, they can make or break a tune for me. I’m very particular about that.
What do you look for in a good drum rack?
Good sounding hits. Kicks and snares. There’s a lot of room to play with. Simple grooves and stuff. As a sound designer, if there’s a snare I don’t like that can break a tune for me. I know it’s all about vibes and everything. But if I don’t like the snare I’m not gonna play the tune. Yeah, I’m very…
We’ll have to do a new UKF feature: Rate My Snare with Wingz.
Haha everyone’s going to hate me! But yeah it’s everything for me.
How was it working with Collette Warren?
As always it’s fun working with her. It’s pretty straightforward. She usually comes up with something pretty quickly. It’s always nice working with her as it doesn’t take ages until she gets back to me which is always nice, because usually it tends to take a bit longer. Especially when you’re working with vocalists overseas, as you don’t have a chance to be in the same studio which is what you want ideally… but I don’t have the luxury of being British.
Jury’s out on that.
I was just thinking about that. But yes the track title came from her lyrics. I wrote the idea in January 2022. It’s just like a million revisions and making sure everything sounds samey in terms of mixdown levels and production value. A lot of back and forth, especially the last six months before the deadline.
You of course have a very special relationship with Overview. How has Peter pushed you and inspired you over the last few years?
It’s more that he gives me freedom. On Overview, I have full control over artwork, promotion tracklisting, stuff like that. On an album but also on all releases as which is a thing which I feel doesn’t really exist a lot these days. Unless you’re on Critical, which is the only one I can think of right now where you do have a say on these things if you want. And I think that’s really cool.
I’ve been with Pete from the start, even before Overview. The reason I went to Overview with him after Lifestyle Music was because he was my contact that I always spoke to there. He kept pushing me, getting me international shows – I don’t think I would have the profile I have in the UK as much if it wouldn’t have been for Overview. Just working with him is easy and he allows me creative freedom and he doesn’t demand crazy changes.
He lets you do your thing.
He trusts his artists, Ollie is the same.
Spill the beans. Tell us a fact about Peter that people might not know.
He’s always late. I was playing a show in Bristol and we went on a boat ride that day before the night. The boat almost took off without him, he made it literally at the last minute. And the whole thing was his idea! Everyone was there, the Captain said he was going to the toilet and when he came out that we were going to leave, and that’s when Pete came. He’s a funny one, we gave each other a lot of flack over it. It’s like a love/hate relationship. I can be very annoying to him and him to me.
Like an old married couple.
Yeah we work well together, we are also fairly similar in mindset – being in it for the love of the music and not to maximise profit. That’s why I work with Overview because they do it for the love.
Being authentic.
Yeah don’t betray your principles, don’t bend yourself to be liked, staying true to yourself – I think that’s very important. I try to do that constantly, authenticity is a really big thing for me.
And that shines through in your music. You’ve walked us through your process in the past. Now after over a decade, how do you think your production style has changed?
I’ve definitely matured. I went from mostly just writing DJ tools, very simple rollers to more introspective pieces that are more musical. I’ve been trying to implement more emotions into the music and give a bit more of a standalone listening experience or gratification. I’ve been really paying attention to atmospheres and themes these days. I still make club tunes. But yeah I think all the above just elevates a tune from just being a DJ tool, to being a tune with substance; when you consider its theme or story or context.
I think it’s one of the things you can’t really learn in a quick-fire Patreon or 1:1 lessons. That’s one thing you have to learn for yourself and understand why or how elements work this way, in this context. For me, drum and bass is very contextual. I started to realise this when I would get remix stems for tunes, I would listen to the sounds on their own and think they’re actually not that great. But in the whole context of the track everything sounds good, because it worked well together. Drum and bass especially but I think probably all music, is very contextual. That’s what experience teaches you. It takes years to master or…  to understand this for yourself. This is also where you learn your signature sound from because of the decisions you make in these aspects.
Can we expect some more ambient from you in the future?
Ahhh not really ambient, I still need some sort of drums! I’ve been making a bit of future garage on the side.
Incoming Wingz future garage?
Absolutely fucking not haha. But in all seriousness, I would alienate half my audience. No, I just like doing it. I have tunes on Soundcloud but I’m not going to tell you what alias they’re under.
I just really like doing it on the side because you can pay a lot more attention to the vibe and texture and just have fun with it. It’s not important to have a crazy mixdown. I’ve just been too busy with drum and bass. But I’m definitely going to continue producing it, it helps me unwind.
It’s something special to make music just for the pleasure of it.
Yeah, you can feel pressure in your production when there’s a deadline looming. Or you have to finish a full release and jump back and forth between the tracks. I think the last 15% of completing a track is always where most people are really struggling, to give it that sheen on top. It can be insanely difficult. Way more difficult than getting an idea together in my opinion. Giving it the kind of little ear candy you need; more sweeps and risers, better transitions, little effects and the bits and bobs.
The sprinkles on top. Hopefully, one day that we’ll be blessed with some ambient from you.
Maybe when I’m 40.
We’ll look forward to it! Alright, let’s circle back. What’s the one thing on your rider you would ask for if you could have anything in the world?
I think… a secluded room with a small light and tons of manga to read.
You’ve got to tell us: top three manga? Or top two or one…
That’s actually difficult. Evangelion obviously as my all time favourite anime/manga. I also love Berserk for when you want to feel despair and be sad.
Thanks – always need recommendations! And finally, what else have you got in store for 2024 that we should be aware of?
At the moment I want to let the album breathe. But I’m sitting on a lot of collabs with lots of plans around that, but these will probably be in autumn as I want the LP to shine right now. It’s been in the works for two years and it needs to simmer for at least a little bit! On the side, I’m still working on tunes pretty much every day so lots to come but for now I hope everyone enjoys the album.

The next release on the legendary Positiva Records is a remix of “Hey Boy Hey Girl.” For the ones of you who don’t know, the tune is the legendary single from The Chemical Brothers and it now receives a new life from Ukrainian pair ARTBAT.
The exciting ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl‘ (ARTBAT Remix) keeps the original’s buzzy synth sound and tension. The remix adds more synths that spray around the mix over the rolling drums. It’s an intense version that creates a wall of sound that covers the dance floor. When the famous and catchy original vocal hook comes on, the roof is sure to come off.
The Chemical Brothers have paved the way of modern electronic music, and they have stayed at the top of the genre ever since. They’ve played at every big festival in the world, and “Hey Boy Hey Girl” is still one of their most famous songs.
ARTBAT are modern dance music tastemakers. their wide sound is now recognized worldwide and it is meticulously crafted, spacing from deep melodies to more powerful techno. A billion streams later, Avicii's "Hey Brother" is still proving dance music's power to bridge divides.
The folksy dance anthem, which the late EDM great released back in October 2013 alongside bluegrass singer-songwriter Dan Tyminski, today eclipsed the elusive billion-stream mark on Spotify.
Banjo twangs weaving through pulsing synths, "Hey Brother" transcends genres and generations. A reminder that we are never truly alone, it's a universal rallying cry for those who've ever shouldered burdens and sought a hand to hold while navigating through the uncertainties of life's "endless road."
That promise is etched in its timeless melody and lyrics: "What if I'm far from home?" asks Tyminski, whose verses speak to the human experience of feeling adrift yet holding onto hope that understanding can be found. "Oh brother, I will hear you call," he assures.
"Hey Brother" is the fifth song in Avicii's catalog to reach the billion-stream milestone after "Wake Me Up," "The Nights," "Waiting For Love" and "Without You."
To celebrate the accomplishment, Avicii's estate has released an interview with Tyminski that was recorded in conjunction with the singer's performance at last year's "Together For a Better Day" concert at the Avicii Arena. He opens up about the story behind "Hey Brother," which started after his teenage daughter facetiously threatened to run away if he didn't accept the offer to record with Avicii, her favorite artist.
"I fell in love with the song," Tyminski recalls. "Like immediately, as soon as I heard it... I don't think I will ever have the opportunity to record something that's reached farther into the corners of the earth than 'Hey Brother.' It was like a beam came out of heaven and dropped this beautiful, amazing song."
Check out Tyminski's interview below.

Issey Cross- a name currently being championed widely across our radio airwaves and Spotify playlists, a voice that lives completely rent-free in our heads. After collaborating with Wilkinson on the globally adored ‘Used to This’, her track ‘Bittersweet Goodbye’ in 2023 soon catapulted her into the commercial spotlight, gaining huge traction from national radio stations, the UK charts, artists like Teisto, major labels and everyone in-between. Don’t get it twisted though: Issey is a perfect example of the well-known quote ‘It takes 10 years to become an overnight success’. The D&B-meets-pop sensation grafted hard as a songwriter, finessing her craft and staying true to her sound for many years. The result? Issey now reaps the rewards of her resilience as she flourishes endlessly with her own independent artistry.
A prominent voice in one of drum & bass’ biggest peaks, her new track ‘Energy in My Town’ represents this historical time for the genre, whilst looking back on those carefree moments of summer in the city. Fresh off the back of her gig performing at the Women’s FA Cup Final, we jumped on Zoom to find out more…
Issey! ‘Energy in My Town’ was just unleashed into the wild… this is about your hometown right?
I actually grew up in Kent, but when I was there I didn’t really have a close friend circle. This song for me is about moving to London and having friends around me, going out, enjoying ourselves. Since I’ve been in London the music scene and culture has been thriving. Drum & bass is so big here right now! Energy in my Town sort of encompasses that energy.
You had a very busy year last year with ‘Bittersweet Goodbye’. You used a pretty iconic sample! How did it feel when it was so well received?
It was a relief. It’s such a big sample. Even when you post videos on TikTok sampling older tracks, people can be like ‘You should’ve left it how it was’. Richard Ashcroft shared it on Twitter. That was crazy because I thought he would hate it. I’d actually written the track a year before and I really wanted to release it. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to because of the sample. Originally we were just going to put it on Soundcloud and then after it started circulating, my label spoke to Richard Ashcroft’s team and he was up for it. So that was good. The sample feels nostalgic even if you don’t remember the song itself, you remember that sample.
If you’ve got the original artist’s approval – nothing else really matters! What comes with a track that gets that much traction?
Everything really. It was crazy. When I put out the song, I was really clear that I wanted it to be a slow release, get everything in place, get the artwork right, get all the other bits sorted before going ahead with the release. I wanted to do it gradually, but then we started posting on Tik Tok and I did the Homebass rave and it started to do well very, very quickly. I’d never done any interviews at that point and I was being asked to go on Capital and other big radio stations. I was like: I don’t even know how to talk in this interview! Everything happened so fast. It was a lot of pressure because I didn’t know what was going to come out next. Obviously because it’s such a big sample too, I felt it was hard to follow it up.
Talk about being thrown in the deep end! Do you react well in those situations?
Yeah, I do. I love being busy, I didn’t have any time to think about it, it was quite exciting. I’ve been doing music for years so it was nice to have something happening! Online it looks like you’ve just started music today, but actually, a lot of artists have been grafting hard for years.
What challenges have you faced in your career so far that will help people see the more realistic, less glamorous, more challenging side of the industry?
I feel like I’ve had a few! I started making music when I was quite young, so I had a few different managers when I was younger and I feel like when you start doing music and you know nothing about it, it’s quite easy to get messed around. I had a few managers that didn’t really work out. I signed to Island a week before the first lockdown and put some music out with them. I just felt like I was making music that they liked, it wasn’t what I wanted to be making. So, I got dropped from the label. After that, I was like ‘Oh my god what am I doing?!’. I kept writing on dance projects for other people and somehow, I ended up meeting my label now and now I’m actually putting out stuff that I like. Now I’m doing what I always wanted to do! At the time, all of the challenging things I’ve been through felt really bad but it’s made me know more about what I want to do and it’s made me more confident.
Being dropped from a label early on in your career must have been quite the challenge. What helped you push past that experience?
I think because I’ve always loved writing I thought ‘I’ll just be a writer’. I feel with writing you can still do music but you don’t have a lot of the other pressures. But then I’ve always wanted to sing and perform, that was the part that was missing.
How did you transition from being a writer into being an artist?
I did a writing session with this guy called Brad and Wilkinson and in that session, we wrote ‘Used to This’. I came out of the session and to be honest, at first, I didn’t think much of the song, but the more I listened to it, the more I started to love it. I always listened to drum & bass, but I’d never written any so it was new for me. A few months went by and I was still just writing for other people, my manager told me that Wilkinson had been playing the track at festivals and it was going to come out. Then I got sent all these videos of him playing it across the UK. When that song came out, it sort of changed everything for me. I started getting sessions for my own stuff again. Labels were interested… my old label included! Then I wrote ‘Oh My’ and more people were interested. It all sort of happened very naturally.
Is there a particular message you want to put out to the world with your music and who you are as an artist?
I want to be really honest about things I’ve gone through or things I’m going through, especially in my new music. I love writing sad songs that you can rave to!

The Nitepunk of yesteryear is no more.
That was the message Nitepunk, one of EDM.com's best music producers of 2023, sought to deliver earlier after releasing a gritty teaser trailer wherein he triumphs over his former self in an intense confrontation.
Nitepunk then dropped "Steps On You (Peep My Style)" shortly thereafter, and it's seemingly more evident than ever that he's hellbent on pushing the limits of his game. A furious blend of trap and dubstep with tinctures of garage rock influence, Nitepunk's latest is not a complete reinvention of what fans have come to know and expect, but rather an evolved form of his signature style.
Taking to social media, he reflected on the trials and tribulations of his breakout 2023 while expressing optimism about the chapter ahead.
"Last year it all happened so fast, starting with the debut album, big heartbreak, and then insane touring schedule, releases piling up, just so much, me and my team were barely keeping it all together and at the end of the year i was beyond burnt out in every way," Nitepunk shared. "We learned a lot from it and i actually took time to fix my life get myself to a better place, music and ideas started to flow more and now we’re here."

Following 2 years of success for Martin Garrix with Spinnin Records, he would part ways with them and create his own record label called STMPD RCRDS where he would reveal ‘Lions in the Wild’ to the world as the second release on STMPD RCRDS. Alongside the British DJ duo of Third Party, this amazing new track would be created and fast become a fan favourite that was belted out at festivals and clubs across the world. ‘Lions in the Wild’ also appeared on the ‘Tomorrowland 2016: The Elixir of Life’ album, establishing it as one of the best songs of the year.
At Ultra Music Festival 2016, ‘Lions in the Wild’ would receive its debut as the opening track to Martin Garrix’s set with an epic orchestral intro that was a highlight of his set. The track also debuted the incredible official vocals of Max McElligott that elevated the emotion of the track and excitement amidst the crowd. From the very start of the track the crowd were sent into a state of euphoria and by the end of the track there was huge anticipation for its release that would come only a few months later.
This would be the first collaboration between Martin Garrix and Third ≡ Party with their only other being their recent release ‘Carry You’ which follows in the footsteps of the rapturous progressive house sound of ‘Lions in the Wild.’ The pumping melody in the chorus is incredibly impactful, maintaining the orchestral feel of the verses and projecting the grandeur of an orchestra through the power of synths.
‘Lions in the Wild’ stands as one of the songs that really set the foundations for the style of music from both Martin Garrix and Third ≡ Party that they’re still using today. Songs such as their collaboration ‘Carry You’ and Third ≡ Party’s most recent release ‘Believe’ are perfect examples of this longstanding style that still sounds incredible 8 years on from its roots and will continue to sound amazing for years to come.
