Nightclubs globally pay over €400 million* each year to Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) for music rights so DJs and artists can play music at their events. If setlists are not submitted, CMOs don’t know what music has been played. Incomplete information can lead to significant delays to creators being paid for the use of their music, and in some cases not being paid at all.
This is about to change. With ongoing successful service pilots for PRS for Music & PPL in the UK, BUMA in the Netherlands, and APRA AMCOS/PPCA in Australia, the KUVO powered by DJ Monitor service has demonstrated unparalleled technology for identifying the music played in clubs to enable more accurate royalty payments for electronic music creators and rightsholders.
The service enables DJs to support music creators by simply playing their tracks. And importantly, it respects DJ setlist privacy, as no details of who played which songs are captured by the technology, and no playlists are publicised.
What DJ’s are saying
Jaguar (DJ) said: “The KUVO powered by DJ Monitor project and logging tracklists is so important to supporting artists and keeping the scene alive. Not enough DJs and artists are aware of the benefits of logging tracklists. This is something I’m passionate about – artists deserve to get paid for their work, for that sick techno tune played in a club, for that earwormy remix heard at a festival! In a world where it’s increasingly difficult to make money off music and the arts, I think KUVO could be a game-changer for helping artists be more sustainable. Let’s get it in every club!!”
Boris Brejcha (DJ/Producer) said: “This technology aims to support electronic music creators, so it gets my full support. I play only my tracks at shows, but I know my music is also played by many other DJs in clubs all over the world, so I welcome this progress towards automated reporting for royalty purposes.”
Dave Seaman (DJ/Producer) said: “I’m a keen supporter of tech that helps DJs to support the producers making the music we spin and depend on. It’s the lifeblood of the scene, but getting increasingly harder to earn a living from. It’s good to see AlphaTheta making this process much more operable. Hopefully, we’ll now see more clubs adopt this technology and ensure producers get the remuneration they deserve.”
Alan Fitzpatrick (DJ/Producer) said: “I’d love to see this technology deployed in more clubs to help support the producers of the music DJs play.”
Sirus Hood (DJ/Producer) said: “It’s great to know that by DJing, we can contribute to music creators getting their royalties. It’s a simple way to appreciate the artists who make our sets possible.”
Venues also benefit by using KUVO powered by DJ Monitor in the form of music insights and extended warranties on their CDJ-3000 units. There is no cost for venues to participate and it does not affect the license fees they pay to CMOs for music.
What venues are saying
James Newmarch, FOLD, Technical Manager (UK Venue) said: “KUVO powered by DJ Monitor has been really useful for us at FOLD. KUVO Care has been extremely important in keeping our fleet of CDJ-3000 units operational due to the harsh environment they are used in. Without this, we would have faced huge repair bills which would have been very challenging for the venue. The analytics and insights into popular tracks and artists is also very interesting and allows us to let certain artists know when their tracks are being played often in the club.”
Sophie Kollmorgen, Home The Venue and ARQ By Home (Australia Venue) said: “We are strong supporters of ensuring the fees we pay for music use are distributed more accurately to the electronic music creators who actually get played in our venues. KUVO powered by DJ Monitor is an important step in addressing this problem and we encourage other venues to get involved to support our community.”
Jasper Löwik, Founder, The Other Side (Amsterdam NL Venue) said: “At The Other Side, we believe music drives our community. Supporting initiatives like KUVO powered by DJ Monitor ensure the artists behind the tracks we enjoy are paid fairly. By adopting technology that respects privacy and supports creators, we can help build a more sustainable future for electronic music.”
The industry has previously struggled to find an effective and scalable solution to ensure that the money from license fees which clubs already pay to Collection Societies/CMOs for music use actually goes to the right artists and rightsholders. Now there is a proven solution that provides benefits to everyone involved, we plan to expand into many more territories and venues over the coming months and years.
How the tech works
KUVO powered by DJ Monitor brings together the strengths of Music Recognition Technology and Direct Metadata Capture technology.
Direct Metadata Capture (DMC): Track, artist name, and other metadata is captured when music is played through a set-up where Pioneer DJ CDJ-3000 or CDJ-2000 units are present.
Music Recognition Technology (MRT): Music identification process where an encrypted fingerprint of the audio in a performance is compared to a database of music tracks.

As Viper Recordings celebrates two decades at the forefront of Drum & Bass, Matrix & Futurebound are back at the helm for one final blowout in 2024. Following a packed-out event at XOYO earlier this year, Viper’s epic anniversary celebration continues with a massive showdown at the same venue on December 6 for the concluding chapter of their 20th anniversary celebrations. The event coincides with the release of the 20 Years of Viper album, a compilation that showcases the label’s diverse legacy—from their groundbreaking releases to the newer sounds.
Viper Recordings has become a powerhouse in the scene, nurturing talent from breakout stars to established legends. Over the past 20 years, the label has been a launchpad for some of the genre’s most enduring names, including Sigma, Nero, and Camo & Krooked, alongside rising stars like Dossa & Locuzzed and Jack Mirror.
Grab Your Tickets Here
Matrix & Futurebound reflect on their 20 standout moments…
Futurebound & Jaquan – Blind Cobblers Thumb
The one that kicked it all off. Brendan made this in 2003, and a whole load of labels wanted to sign it at the time. Many of the scene’s artists played it in their sets. Starting his own imprint was always Brendan’s plan, and this was the moment.
Matrix & Futurebound – Universal Truth LP
We always join our labels for our own releases, and making this album felt so natural. At the time of making it, we felt there was a void in the scene. It was either full-on liquid or full-on jump-up, so the goal was to bridge the energy of both in our own epic flavour.
ShockOne – Polygon
Karl was our first exclusive signing to the label, and early on, we knew this guy had everything to kick on to great things. The ‘Polygon’ EP was a game-changer for him, and his excitement and hunger for Viper were growing.
Various Artists – Acts Of Mad Men Album
We wanted to celebrate our five-year anniversary with something special. This project was a good twelve months in the making, and the goal was to showcase our sound and representation in D&B with a pivotal body of work from our own acts and some of the scene’s finest, such as Nero, Ed Rush & Optical, Sigma, Camo & Krooked, etc.
This album really put Viper on the map and established us as a household name in the industry, gaining accolades such as Zane Lowe’s Album of the Week on Radio 1 and more.
Futurebound & Metrik – Brave New World
Tom Metrik was the next guy to come on board after ShockOne, and after a series of early Metrik singles, Brendan jumped in the studio with him and came up with this. They were both on laptops, headphones on, saying nothing to each other for about two hours. When they played each other’s ideas, they fitted perfectly, and knew they had something really cool on the go.
DC Breaks – Halo EP
It’s 2010, and everything was moving in the direction we’d hoped for. DC Breaks, who had joined us in recent years, delivered the ‘Halo’ EP, which brilliantly encapsulated Viper’s sound.
Camo & Krooked – Pulse Of Time EP
Another huge four-tracker from the fast-rising Austrian duo. We’d worked with them on and off on singles for a few years prior, but this was the best of the lot.
Matrix & Futurebound ft. Luke Bingham – All I know
We thought our first idea of this was too light for our sets and decided to make more of a set starter banger version (M&F’s Smash & Grab Mix). We ended up putting the original edit on the package as a bonus, and the next thing we knew, we were 29 in the UK Top 40, which opened new exciting doors for us to walk through. It’s funny how things turn out unintentionally.
Fred V & Grafix ft. Reija Lee – Just A Thought
2013, and the sound of Viper really is a thing, a label that delivered strong, powerful hooks and great dancefloor energy, and this track did exactly that.
Seven Lions – Polarize EP
This whole era of Viper was so exciting. D&B was having a real golden spell, but we wanted to branch out and try some other styles along the way, and when Brendan was sent these demos from Seven Lions in Cali, he was blown away. They were epic Dubstep with a hint of breaks.
ShockOne – Universus LP
Karl had really developed his sound at the point of releasing his debut album in 2013. It was such a pleasure to see him grow from this shy kid from Perth into a serious producer who was now playing shows all over the world. Also, we’ve got to give a big shout to Karl’s sister, Reija Lee, who’s featured heavily throughout Viper’s history.
Metrik – Freefall VIP
Metrik had released his seminal cut ‘Freefall’ two years earlier but the VIP took it to a whole new level which featured on our 50th Release EP.
Brookes Brothers ft. Chrome – Carry Me On
Another act that Viper had grown with since its infancy was Brookes Brothers. After delivering a huge album on BBK, the guys came back to Viper to begin work on their second album. The brothers delivered the ultimate feel-good D&B track, gaining fans on radio and D&B dancefloors.
The Prototypes – Pale Blue Dot / Lights
In 2014, we’d just signed The Prototypes, who’d been honing their sound on various labels for a few years. But when they came to Viper, the stars aligned. If we had to explain the term double A-side, then this is it.
Both tracks exploded them into the spotlight and led them to deliver their gargantuan ‘City Of Gold’ Album later on.
InsideInfo & Mefjus – Pulsation
InsideInfo had been signed with us for a good few years up until this point, but this collaboration with Mefjus blew us away. Incredible sonics. What a tune.
Dossa & Locuzzed – Shag
These guys had been sending demos, and we instantly knew they had something different going on, a Daft Punk meets D&B vibe; it was a no-brainer to sign them to Viper. ‘Shag’ is one of those tracks we would tag under the anthem; it’s never left our sets since the day they sent it to us.
Koven – Figure
We signed Max and Katie back in 2014 and released many epic releases by them, but there was just something special about this single. Lush and beautiful, it’s been so great to see another Viper act go on to great things. Two very talented people who deserve all the goodness that comes their way.
Millbrook – Rituals
Finding and building artists from scratch has been our speciality over the years, and Millbrook was another act who we knew had the potential to do great things. ‘Rituals’ was the one that put him in the spotlight, and from there on, he flourished. One of those stripped-back tracks where all the elements feel fresh as f**k.
Futurebound ft. Tom Cane – Dangerous
Brendan wrote this one early on during the first lockdown. The world was freaking out, so he hit the studio HARD!!! It has all the ingredients of Vipers’ euphoric sound and features our long-standing collaborator and friend Tom Cane, who also has one of the most iconic voices in the game.
Various Artists – 20 Years Of Viper Album
We’ve worked tirelessly in the creation of this exclusive 20-track album, which features brand-new exclusive cuts and remixes of some Viper classics.
one of the godfathers of Garage MJ Cole returns to announce the first event in a series of exciting moments throughout 2025 to celebrate an incredible 25 years of his epochal and seminal Mercury Prize nominated album Sincere. On the 27th March, he will debut a brand new live show at London’s iconic Jazz Cafe for an evening to revisit key tracks from his brilliant and varied catalogue, re-imagined with past, present & brand new collaborators. Fans can expect some very special guest appearances and surprises along the way yet to be announced.
Speaking on the event, MJ Cole shares:
“Feeling more proud than ever of the records I’ve had the pleasure to make with the talents of many immensely gifted artists over the years. Feels like the time is right to celebrate by presenting a brand new live show in my home town of London. I’m beyond excited to be performing live at the Jazz Cafe with some of my musical family. Expect sounds, faces and voices both old and new – shared with passion, love and sincerity x “
Originally released in 2000 under the iconic Talkin’ Loud label, MJ Cole’s ground-breaking album—and its unforgettable singles “Sincere” and “Crazy Love”—did more than define the sound of an era; it became the pulse of a generation. With shimmering melodies and soulful rhythms, these tracks captured the essence of UK Garage at its finest, setting dancefloors alight and weaving their way into the DNA of club culture. Alongside legends like Wookie, Tuff Jam and Dreem Teem, MJ Cole carved out a legacy that reverberates far beyond its origin. MJ Cole’s is a catalogue that sees club moment nostalgia transcend generations hearing his music for the first time. Be it in 2000 or 2025 – the feeling his music evokes is synonymous with pure dancefloor energy not confined to a yearning for the past. It’s here and it’s now.
It’s easy to overlook quite how seminal the 90s were in birthing pretty much everything that has since come to dominate UK culture. In just a matter of years garage, jungle, UK funky, bassline and many more genres would explode out of one another like firecrackers. On the coal face of it all was electronic spearhead MJ Cole, whose pioneering 2-step sound went on to influence everything from grime to dubstep to bands like The xx. His breakthrough track, “Sincere”, was one of the first proper garage songs to penetrate the UK top 40, and even now it is the track played religiously at 6am during every house party from Hackney to Hartlepool.
Over the years, MJ Cole has established himself both as one of the most consistent producers in Britain and a mastermind for bringing through new talent. He’s produced tracks across the spectrum for artists like Dizzee Rascal, Katy B, Becky Hill and Stormzy. He co-wrote and produced “Nobody But You” for Mary J Blige, alongside SamSmith and JimmyNapes. He has since teamed up with the ferocious young grime MC AJ Tracey to create “The Rumble”–a dark and industrial colossus that showed just how diverse his sound has become. The Rumble was followed by Shelter featuring Bruno Major, also released on Cole’s label 892 Recordings. As for his remix work, he’s been called upon to work his magic on original tracks from some of the biggest names in music; Amy Winehouse, Mariah Caray, Alicia Keys and JorjaSmith. In more recent years, he’s DJed alongside new-gen UKG faves such as Sammy Virji, been invited by Jamie XX to play at his MOT residency, and been a regular in the studio with Eliza Rose who he collaborated on “Business As Usual” with last year. Outside of his own label, MJ Cole has dropped records on Disclosure’s Method White label, and Redlight’s label Lobsterboy.

Vladimir Putin’s elusive third daughter, Elizaveta Krivonogikh, has been making waves far from the Kremlin, reportedly living under an alias in Paris and carving out a life as a DJ. A recent investigation by Ukrainian TV station TSN has revealed that the 21-year-old, better known by her pseudonym Luiza Rozova, is pursuing a dual career in fashion and music.
A Secret Life in Paris
Elizaveta, who also goes by the name Elizaveta Olegovna Rudnova, is said to be presenting herself as the daughter of Oleg Rudnov, a late media manager and close confidant of Putin. TSN alleges that Krivonogikh is the product of an affair between Putin and Svetlana Krivonogikh, a former cleaner who has since amassed considerable wealth. Under her alias, Elizaveta is thought to be living a cosmopolitan life in Paris, distancing herself from her family’s political legacy while pursuing her artistic ambitions.
From Moscow Nightlife to the Fashion World
Before relocating to Paris, Krivonogikh performed as Luiza Rozova at Moscow’s trendy Rovesnik bar, a venue known for its progressive ethos. In 2021, she reportedly played a DJ set there, mingling with the city’s cultural elite and leaving shortly after her performance. The bar’s history of hosting events on feminism and human rights activism contrasts sharply with her father’s political image, adding intrigue to her persona.
In addition to her DJ career, Luiza has also been involved in the fashion industry, further cementing her status as an enigmatic figure in the arts.
A Glimpse Into Her Lifestyle
Though her Instagram account is now private, reports suggest that Krivonogikh’s feed once showcased her enjoying a life of music, dance, and social outings. Her embrace of a modern, creative lifestyle seems at odds with her ties to Russia’s most powerful figure, fueling curiosity about her motivations and identity.
As whispers of her Parisian life spread, Elizaveta Krivonogikh remains a fascinating figure in the intersection of politics and culture, blurring the lines between secrecy and self-expression.

The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix proved once again that Vegas doesn’t just host events—it reinvents them. Now in its second year, Formula 1 has transformed the Las Vegas Strip into the epicenter of a thrilling November street race, where the roar of engines harmonizes with the thrum of electronic dance music. More than 300,000 fans flooded the city in 2024, reveling in a weekend that not only blurred the line between sport and spectacle, but also underscored how Formula 1 and electronic music share an increasingly common rhythm.

Throughout the extended weekend, electronic music was the thread weaving together the race’s many layers of experience. Dom Dolla brought a surge of energy to the Paddock Club with a rooftop performance at the debut of LIV Nightclub's pop-up, "LIV On The Grid," while Steve Aoki also delivered a trackside DJ set on race night, infusing the grid with an anticipatory energy just moments before engines roared to life. Together, their performances highlighted how integral electronic music has become to the identity of Las Vegas’ most ambitious cultural events. Downtown, the inaugural Neon City Music Festival extended the celebration beyond the Strip, transforming Fremont Street into an expansive, open-air bash. Headlined by electronic luminaries such as Alison Wonderland and Seven Lions, the free event engaged a broader swath of the city’s population, embracing the celebratory spirit of the weekend itself. It served as a thoughtful reminder that while the Grand Prix may have its roots in global glamour, its success thrives on Vegas' unique ability to unify diverse experiences into a singular, unforgettable moment.

This sense of connection wasn’t confined to the ground. Maverick Helicopters elevated the weekend with its "Victory Lap" tours, offering aerial views of the track, the dazzling Sphere and other iconic Vegas landmarks. As the exclusive helicopter service for both the Grand Prix and Electric Daisy Carnival, Maverick symbolically linked two of the city’s most visible cultural phenomena, further evidence of how Las Vegas fuses its infrastructure and artistry into a world-class entertainment engine.

Even as the race crowned its victors, George Russell, who led Mercedes to a dramatic finish; and Max Verstappen, who clinched his fourth World Drivers’ Championship; the celebrations off-track were as pivotal as the action itself. Alesso’s euphoric set at the T-Mobile Zone at Sphere on Friday night built anticipation for qualifying, while Carl Cox closed out Sunday at Zouk Nightclub with a rare and monumental Vegas appearance.

The weekend's signature afterparties solidified Vegas' reputation as the epicenter of nocturnal indulgence. Wynn Las Vegas hosted "The After" at Delilah, a star-studded event where Mark Ronson, Diplo and Dolla all made appearances on a night that stretched into the early morning hours. Elsewhere on the property, Wynn Nightlife and XS Nightclub offered revelers and celebrities the chance to bask in the lingering thrill of race day with sets from Swedish House Mafia and Gordo. These gatherings weren’t just a part of the party circuit—they were extensions of race day itself, amplifying the momentum of an already relentless weekend. Vegas doesn’t just stage a spectacle; it becomes the spectacle, leaving even its most ambitious events feeling like they were made for this city all along. Formula 1 Las Vegas returns on November 20th through 22nd, 2025.
At last year's NAMM Show, Pioneer DJ turned heads when they announced the arrival of a sleek, angled, all-in-one standalone DJ console with four decks, but the unprecedented splash it made this year set the stage for triumph across the board. Beyond music producers and DJs, it quickly caught eyes and ears among stagehands, club owners, audio engineers and more. Aesthetically, it’s a supermodel among gadgets with curves that romanticize its appeal. Its looks are complemented with streamlined functions that make it a powerful tool both for home or on the road as well. For music and event producers who don’t want to sacrifice any performance potential or sound quality in a more compact rig, it’s an absolute win. This is especially true for those who need something that can travel well. While it’s an undoubted advantage that the Opus Quad can fit comfortably in a small DJ booth or art car, the price, which lands around $3,500 with tax and shipping, we wondered how it would distinguish itself from predecessors like the XDJ-XZ and the CDJ-3000. So we got our hands on an Opus Quad and spent a few months fiddling with its many knobs and buttons. Here’s what we learned. Big screens make a big difference Those who say not to judge a book by its cover probably never saw such a sexy cover. Like a classic sports car or an Apple device in its prime, the Opus Quad sets a precedent that DJ consoles don’t need to be clunky and cumbersome. Truly, where “all-in-one” devices from other brands can look and feel rigid and fragile like those vintage films of Ford’s Model T, Pioneer’s Opus Quad arrives dressed up like the Batmobile. Its central 10.1 inch touchscreen signals massive potential with intuitive design in a first impression that’s enough to make any onstage artist rubberneck. Each side, which houses two decks, has its own separate, smaller screen for additional details about the music playing on each deck. These vibrant, colorful screens serve up a robust but simple menu full of goodies like FX color control, cloud access control via RekordBox, track data and more. The truest "all-in-one" yet Its ability to control four channels independently without four separate CDJs also contributes to its visual appeal. While it doesn’t aim to replace the four CDJ setup that artists love, it offers a strong alternative that only occupies about half the space. In contrast, its predecessor the XDJ-XZ, which is still a phenomenal machine today, takes up just a little more real estate on a table while only allowing for two decks, unless external CDJs are added. The Opus Quad stands as a truer “all-in-one” in this way, because it meets the growing demand for four decks right out of the box. Before four-deck purists run for the comment section, let’s be clear. Obviously, the four-CDJ setup will still have its advantages so we don’t expect the conventional CDJ-3000 setup to fade from our favorite stages anytime soon, but as far as all-in-ones go the Quad Opus is more complete than its predecessors. And the fact that it's more compact means it travels better than four CDJs and a mixer too. In addition to shedding the need for external CDJs, the Opus Quad can operate from SSD drives, USB-A 3.2 and USB-C drives. As a result, it doesn’t need to rely on an external laptop. Obviously many onstage artists only travel with a USB drive to perform so to some this will feel old hat, but any poor soul who in the past needed to carry or keep an eye on a laptop for a set will almost certainly celebrate this aspect of the Opus Quad. Without a monitor perched on top of the console they’ll probably relish a better connection with the audience too. Beyond the CDJ-3000 For those who love the CDJ-3000, the Opus Quad will feel in some ways like its cousin. It sports redesigned jog wheels with waveform indicators and tension adjusters, which are a firm nod to one of the CDJ-3000s most loved features. In some ways it goes a step further too. For instance, instead of traditional performance pads it’s equipped with hot cues that are more intuitive because the RGB color displays on the jog wheel waveforms can be customized, making it easier than ever to sync up with track cues in perfect style. Another nod to the 3000s can be seen and heard in the FX controls, which have advanced a few steps in the Opus Quad. Across all four decks the Opus Quad’s mixing toolset offers 14 beat FX with six adjustable colors. With this feature, choosing the perfect beat effect for the moment can be more intuitive, or even thematic. For example, face-melting effects with thick bass can be displayed in red, mid-trembling wobbles can be green and icy, transcendent chills can be blue. Perhaps the best part about all these new features is the fact that there are enough distinguishing visuals to separate the Quad Opus from its predecessors and peers, but certainly not enough to prevent a motivated artist from learning it all in a flash. It's an audio engineer's dream The often-unsung "sound guy" has a few reasons to opt for the Opus Quad too. Namely, it has separate XLR and RCA outputs, which make it an agile addition for a variety of venues and soundscapes. It has multi-zone output as well so it can function as a command center for a variety of vibes in separate areas. Its ultra compact design makes deploying it a breeze for load-ins, load-outs and setup between sets too. Granted, it’s certainly marketed with touring DJs in mind, but in its bevy of features and spacey design the Opus Quad seems to open up a world of possibilities for almost anyone who hopes to make, play and perform electronic music. In this article we didn’t unpack the way it loads tracks faster with SQLite or the way it stays cooler longer with optimized thermal airflow design right out of the box, but those who get one will quickly find these advantages to be a blessing. Also, with features like cloud access, a LAN port, updated bluetooth technology and a direct connection for SSD it won’t take long to notice the adaptable Opus Quad comes built ready for marathon sets, next-level learning, and just about anything else.
