Motorcycle Crash In Thailand Inspires Beltran's New Track, "Banyan Tree"
When life hits you with a reality so bizarre it feels like fiction, some artists pick up a pen, but Beltran picked up a synthesizer. The Brazilian DJ and producer recently turned a near-fatal experience in Thailand into a sonic journey of its own. He's now opened up about the unnerving story behind his new track, "Banyan Tree (Thai Mix)." It all began with a motorcycle crash in Phuket that left Beltran hospitalized with broken bones, stitches and, as he humorously recalls, stolen flip-flops. The ordeal reached its fever pitch when he found himself in a chaotic taxi ride back to his hotel—barefoot and shaken, yet somehow inspired. "The story was so insane I had to do a track of it," Beltran said in an Instagram post. View the original article to see embedded media. With a vocoded voice delivering the lyrics, the track plunges listeners into an arrangement where pumping percussion collides with acid-tinged basslines and industrial soundscapes. The synths, plotting and deliberate, seem to reflect the chaos of his journey as if asking, "Is this really happening?" You can listen to the new track below and download it for free here. Pete Tong Confirms More Anyma Sphere Shows
We’ve been bamboozled, in the best way possible. After an incredible, history-making residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Anyma may be returning to “End of Genesys” even sooner than we anticipated! The news, or leak, came at the hands of none other than BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong. Anyma sat for a lengthy interview (listen in full at the link) about his new single and about much more. The interview touched on how ‘Hypnotized’ was made from beginning to end, explaining that Goulding started the process by sending over the acapella which Anyma loved. An interesting segway talked about Anyma’s debut show at Printworks in 2022. Matteo explained that during that show about 80% of the planned visual production failed to work, but the audience’s overwhelmingly positive reaction to the 20% was enough to guide the project forward. The artist then explains that contrary to most artists, he plans the music and the visuals together as one cohesive whole. Residency Extension The surprise announcement happened during Tong’s Radio 1 HQ Show the week of January 11th, when the host mentioned Anyma’s historic residency in Las Vegas. Before Tong plays the chosen tune of the week ‘Hypnotized’ featuring Ellie Goulding, he includes her appearance as a special guest for “End of Genesys”. He carries on, acknowledging the massive success of the show. Furtherly, he confirms that due to the overwhelming success of the event, even though it ended that weekend, more shows will be added. However Pete Tong’s claims have neither been denied nor confirmed by official sources. Nevertheless, the speculations are as high as ever, as there have been rumors of Tale of Us potentially splitting up this year, as both Anyma and MRAK continuously work on their solo projects. The extension of this residency would prove once again that the Italian DJ and producer Anyma is in a league of its own when it comes to audiovisual events, which have captivated hundreds of thousands of listeners worldwide. Las Vegas, continuously becoming an epicenter of EDM, has recently announced major residencies. The Wynn Hotel alone confirmed Odesza, Sofi Tukker, and Subtronics as major residencies for this summer. An End of Genesys Pt. II during the summer would heal the world. It would mean potentially new tracks and visuals, new guest live performers, and more robotic cellos! Although it’s really looking up for Anyma, we will closely monitor this developing news. All in all, The Sphere revealed its next residency to be the Country act Kenny Chesney, starting in May. Past last year residencies included U2 and The Eagles. Anyma was the very first EDM artist to play there, and set the bar extremely high. Will he go for more? Stay tuned! The post Pete Tong Confirms More Anyma Sphere Shows appeared first on EDMTunes.

Anyma Breaks Silence in BBC Radio 1 Interview
Anyma, the creative vision and revolutionary electronic music concept from Tale Of Us’ Matteo Milleri, revealed hitherto unheard-of insights in a ground-breaking exclusive conversation with Danny Howard of BBC Radio 1 (listen to the full interview). Breaking his radio-quiet, the discussion coincided with the release of “Hypnotized,” his joint project with Ellie Goulding and Radio 1’s first Hottest Record of 2025. He got Hypnotized by Ellie Goulding The interview unearthed interesting specifics about Anyma’s working style, especially concerning the production of “Hypnotized.” Goulding started the process by sending a cappella and chord progression that connected with Anyma right away. The song came from a natural conversation. Though he finished the first version fast, the producer clarified that the track went through several changes over six months in search of the ideal moment to fit his creative direction. She just sent me this acapella out of the blue and some chords… it was flawless. I was directly inspired and was like, ‘yeah, I’ve got a vision for this one.’ – Anyma At Printworks almost everything didn’t work Perhaps most revealing was Anyma’s candid discussion about his debut show at London’s Printworks in 2022. In a surprising admission, he disclosed that approximately 80% of the planned visual production, including a sophisticated motion capture system, failed during the performance. However, this technical setback became pivotal in Anyma’s journey, as the audience’s response to the few working elements helped shape the project’s future direction. The funny thing was that 80% of the show didn’t work – he admits with surprising openness. – We had this whole tech thing where my body had to have motion capture on with real-time visuals, and that just froze. The reaction of the public to this sort of new world that they were given into this beautiful environment that was Printworks… it was very theatrical and the whole thing came together so nicely that the rest of it just didn’t matter. From music to the visuals The discussion dug right down into Anyma’s original method of audio-visual synthesis. Unlike conventional electronic music events where graphics are often commissioned independently, Anyma talks of his process as a cohesive canvas where sound and images are conceptualized simultaneously. The most important factor here is obviously the synergy between the music and the visuals. That seems like a very simple thing to say, but it’s actually very important.” Designed in close association with visual artist Alessio Del Vecchi, this combined approach has produced a new electronic music performance format where neither part takes the front stage over the other. The music is not done just to be music, and the visuals are not done just to be visuals. It’s like a canvas all together – he emphasizes The Sphere Thanks to this visionary idea, Anyma became the first electronic musician to perform at the ground-breaking arena, Las Vegas’ Sphere. Six months of rigorous effort were needed the preparation for these events. We all worked like six months non-stop on this from when we got the confirmation. It’s been like directing a movie, but thinking people need to dance to it. From the first time I saw when they were building it and they were promoting the building and the concept, I was like ‘I want to go there,’. Sometimes technological advancements and the entrepreneurship vision of the builders and my alignment with this creatively is quite special and unique. Collaborations The singer also spoke on his partnerships with UK musicians such as Camelphat and the upcoming talent Massano. Working with Camelphat, especially on “The Sign,” shows what he believes to be one of his best works since they both commit themselves to producing emotionally charged electronic music. I think it’s one of my best records. It’s very beautiful and I’m very emotionally connected to it. I’ve been sort of watching over him [Massano] since the beginning,. To see talents grow with what you’ve built and breathe and evolve, it’s really exciting and refreshing for me. The state of the dance music and what will come next In a provocative speech, Anyma discussed the situation of dance music today and urged more creativity and risk-taking—especially among up-and-coming musicians. I think the dance music scene is a bit stuck in its own loop. There needs to be more innovation and risk-taking. He underlined the need to transcend accepted limits and admitted that improving one’s trademark sound still has great value. When you reach that creative point where you are happy with your output and you’ve made your own world around it, it’s also good to perfectionate and bring it to a point where it shines even more. “It’s not just what you hear, it’s also what you see. And then they can inspire each other,” he says, distilling the idea that has made Anyma among the most intriguing creators in electronic music. Anyma leads the visual and auditory future of the genre as it develops, demonstrating that dance music’s inventiveness is unbounded. For 35 years, MC Flux has been a cornerstone of drum and bass, from the reggae sound systems of the 80s to the forefront of the global rave scene. DJ Krust – Soul In Motion I first heard this song in Blue Note Hoxton, at the time DJ Bailey played it; from the first time hearing it stuck in my head, this is one for the connoisseurs Roni Size & DJ Die – Music Box To me, this track stands out especially the Jungle days at such a primitive time to go between safe haven and Jungle music. Roni Size at his finest. Dillinja & Mystery – Deep Love The best of DnB producers to come on the scene. Deep Love does what it says, it’s full to the brim of nothing but deep love. This track even saved one of my relationships. DJ Pulse – Stay Calm For those who remember the Paradise Club, I have the fondest memories of DJ Randall (RIP) who mixed this with another track (name of which escapes me) the moment he dropped the mix the whole place exploded, so much so he rewound and played again! HYDRO – The Zone The bassline roll gave me goosebumps all up the back of my neck, D&B at its absolute finest. Mampi Swift – Rebirth I had never heard DnB like this, Always stands out for me from Skibadee (RIP) playing it, not many tunes make me dance but this did. The build up and drop is amazing. Inta Warriors – Inta Inta Natty family! The original was such a success that my vocal was used, the crowd love this one. 24 years old and still timeless! Lenny Dee Ice – We Are IE Lenny Dee Ice, game changer, this is when Jungle began. Bassline giving goosebumps, this is when Jungle was born, RIP Lenny Dee. Deep Blue – Helicopter Tune My family Moving Shadow Crew, Deep Blue aka 2 Bad Mice. I heard this in the studio before it was released. And I am obsessed with it then just as I am now. It was given to Grooverider as a dubplate; he was the first to have this tune. I recall one time at a Roast; he rewinded it 9 times!! Now that’s gotta be a record for a tune! Goldie – Angel Game changer again, Goldie’s Angel; when it came out, it filled me with tears, Jungle at its best!

Neon Countdown 2024: A Vibrant New Year’s Celebration in Bangkok
As the final hours of 2024 ticked away, Neon Countdown brought thousands of music lovers together to welcome the New Year at Wonder World Extreme Park in Bangkok. This year’s festival didn’t just deliver on music, it also showcased thoughtful design upgrades, enhanced stage experiences, and a sense of community that made it a meaningful way to transition into 2025. The Lineup: A Diverse Soundtrack for All Tastes The festival lineup offered a carefully curated mix of global icons and rising stars, ensuring there was a rhythm for everyone. Martin Garrix, closing the main stage on New Year’s Eve, delivered a set that perfectly matched the energy of the occasion. Known for his ability to connect with the crowd, Garrix kept everyone engaged with both classic hits like Animals and newer tracks that had the audience moving in sync. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike leaned into their crowd-focused style, leading the audience in chants and singalongs that turned their set into a participatory event. Indira Paganotto, performing on the main stage, brought her unique blend of hypnotic techno and pulsating beats, captivating the crowd with a performance that felt deeply immersive. Her presence on the main stage was a refreshing addition, offering a different energy that complemented the festival’s broader soundscape. Meanwhile, the Neon Jungle Deck Stage created a distinct vibe with performances by Dimarik, Goodoys, and 39 Kingdom. These acts brought a mix of tropical beats, groovy house, and progressive tracks that resonated with the theme of the stage’s lush, jungle-inspired design. Their sets provided a perfect soundtrack for those seeking a more laid-back yet equally engaging musical journey. Neon Jungle: Bigger, Bolder, More Immersive The Neon Jungle Stage, now referred to as the Jungle Deck, was a centerpiece of this year’s enhancements. The design embraced a theme of “tropical neon,” blending lush greenery with bold, glowing accents. Palm trees with illuminated trunks framed the stage, while oversized LED panels displayed animated visuals that pulsed with the beat of the music. This year, the stage’s increased size created more space for both performers and the audience, allowing for intricate light shows and pyrotechnics that added depth to each performance. The tropical theme extended to the surrounding area, where festival-goers could wander through paths lined with neon flora, creating an atmosphere that felt both vibrant and inviting. Half-Clock Photo Spot: A Symbolic Transformation One of the most talked-about features of Neon Countdown 2024 was the redesigned photo spot. Previously a simple neon cube, this year the structure was transformed into a striking half-clock design. The semi-circular shape represented the countdown to the New Year, with glowing numerals and hands frozen at midnight to mark the transition into 2025. This redesign wasn’t just a visual change—it added meaning to a beloved feature of the festival. The photo spot became a symbol of anticipation and celebration, with its reflective surface and dynamic lighting providing the perfect backdrop for memories. Throughout the festival, it remained one of the busiest and most photographed areas, a testament to its thoughtful design. Beyond Music: Community and Discovery Interactive zones encouraged exploration. The Glow Path, a winding trail of light installations, led attendees through lesser-traveled parts of the festival, offering moments of quiet wonder. Art installations dotted the grounds, blending traditional Thai motifs with modern neon aesthetics to create a unique cultural fusion. Even the festival’s layout reflected its focus on community. The downtown area of NEON served as the heart of its F&B scene, offering a vibrant hub for food lovers to gather, sample diverse cuisines, and connect over shared meals. With open seating areas and cozy spots for conversation, it created an inviting space where attendees could take a break from the music and enjoy a more social and relaxed atmosphere. Neon Countdown felt less like a massive event and more like a gathering of like-minded individuals coming together to celebrate and share experiences. The Countdown: A Shared Moment of Joy As midnight approached, the main stage became the focal point of the festival. Thousands of attendees gathered in front of the towering LED screens, their excitement building with each passing minute. The crowd’s energy was palpable as the countdown began, with voices joining together in unison for the final ten seconds. When the clock struck twelve, a burst of fireworks illuminated the sky, followed by a confetti shower that enveloped the crowd. This moment of collective celebration was the highlight of the night. Strangers hugged, friends cheered, and the music surged forward, carrying the crowd into the first hours of 2025 with a renewed sense of optimism. Reflecting on Neon Countdown 2024 Neon Countdown 2024 wasn’t just another festival; it was an experience that combined world-class music, thoughtful design, and a welcoming atmosphere. The half-clock photo spot, the expanded Neon Jungle stage, and the attention to detail in every corner of the festival grounds spoke to the organizers’ commitment to creating something memorable. As I left the festival grounds in the early hours of January 1st, surrounded by a sea of smiling faces, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. Neon Countdown was a reminder of why we come together to celebrate, the music, the connection, and the hope that a new year brings.

TikTok Ban Lasts 1 Day After President Trumps Intervenes
TikTok restored services Sunday to the U.S. after blocking it the evening before TikTok said its video platform was coming back online after President-elect Donald Trump provided the necessary assurances to the company’s service providers. TikTok stated this in a post on X: “We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.” Just hours before TikTok blocked service to Americans, Trump posted to Truth Social calling for it to remain available. Trump indicated that he wanted it to be available to broadcast his inauguration on Monday. TikTok welcomed users back with the message “Welcome back! Thanks for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.! You can continue to create, share, and discover all the things you love on TikTok.” The app is still unavailable for download from Apple’s and Google’s app stores. The law banning TikTok, which was scheduled to go into effect Sunday, allows the president to grant a 90-day extension before the ban is enforced, provided certain criteria are met. Trump has proposed a joint venture for TikTok, with the U.S. owning 50%, but even that idea faces a potential hurdle. TikTok’s future in the U.S. still loops up in the air. W&W Turn Viral "Spinning Cat" Meme Into Psytrance Anthem With a Cause
The codependency between social media and music has never been stronger, but W&W have taken it a step further with their new meme-inspired psytrance track, "OIIA OIIA (Spinning Cat)." The duo's edit went nearly as viral as the original "Spinning Cat" clip, as a video of them debuting it at their New Years performance garnered over 85 million views. To top it off, they dubbed the performance "Cat Rave." The energetic beat created by W&W seems to perfectly mirror the absurd and playful energy of the meme, which derives from a blind Ohio cat named Ethel. And though she doesn't know it, her video and its subsequent remix are funding her care. W&W have pledged to donate a portion of the track's proceeds directly to Ethel as well as the Cat Welfare Association, the non-profit shelter that "gave her a second chance," according to a press release shared with EDM.com. Storytelling From Above: David Carreno Shares What It Takes to Pilot Drones at EDM Shows
In the heart-pounding world of electronic dance music, there's an unsung hero navigating the skies: the drone pilot. This high-stakes art form is not just about flying—it's storytelling from above. They are tasked with the difficult job of not only blocking out the sensory overload below, but also enhancing it to transform each show into a multi-dimensional experience for fans. At the controls, drone pilots like David Carreno navigate a world where every second counts. As the founder of Destination Reset Productions, he maneuvers his FPV (first-person view) drone through the chaos of flailing limbs, intricate lighting rigs and expensive stage equipment at EDM shows. Every moment for Carreno requires split-second decisions and demands extremely sharp focus, as any hesitation could lead to a crash or a missed moment. It's akin to conducting an orchestra, where the drone is both instrument and maestro. Patience is key—one wrong move and the night's magic could be grounded. Confidence, too, is non-negotiable. A scintilla of doubt could send the drone hurtling into a crowd of thousands. David Carreno editing drone footage in front of Zedd at the DJ's "Zedd in The Park" event at Los Angeles State Historic Park on September 7th, 2024.c/o Destination Reset Productions Next up for Carreno is a March 21st gig at San Francisco's famed Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where he'll capture FPV drone footage of Gareth Emery's "LSR/CITY: Cyberpunk" production, which the trance music icon called his "biggest tour yet." The eye-popping show blitzes audiences with 110 different polychromatic lasers, an immense challenge for Carreno since lasers tend to burn camera sensors, he tells EDM.com. He'll then head to Colorado April 12th for an unforgettable flying experience at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where he'll be manning the controls for dubstep star Wooli's first-ever headlining show at the open-air venue. We caught up with Carreno to peer through the looking glass of his drone transmitter and share his expertise for aspiring pilots. Read on to discover his tips and insights in his own words. Be disciplined in your craftA lot of things can go wrong and it can result in someone getting seriously injured. So be consistent on your equipment inspections, adhere to laws and regulations, and practice and prepare for all scenarios. Artists and festivals hire you not only for your creative work, but the assurance that everything will go right, every time. Confidence and patience equals portfolioFrom learning to fly to mastering aerial cinematography and photography, it takes time! You want to deliver fire content, and being confident in flying over 1,000 to 500,000 people plays a huge role, especially at night. So appreciate the time on the simulator, know your equipment inside and out, and practice flying in all environments. Invest in quality gearYou definitely don't want your drone falling from the sky due to cheap equipment. You also want to have a smooth and exciting flying experience. What fun is there if you're always uncomfortable with a cheap neck strap or your drone doesn't respond? Invest in basic necessities, and premium gear can come later. Be prepared to be an engineerAt some point you might be building your own drones and programming them with specialized softwares. In FPV context, you would fly sub-250g drones at festivals and concerts. And sometimes that means tweaking with soldering and wiring parts in order to comply with regulations. Involve artists and managementBelieve me when I say this: artists and their management actually like it when you involve them in your setup process and during flights. Being the drone person is cool, but having them see you decked out with gear is cooler to them. I would have external monitors so they can see what I'm seeing, and so I can explain to them what each piece of equipment does. It leaves a great impression and makes you stand out. Practice communicationFlying drones at festivals is your first job. Your second is communicating your every move to operations by headset. Initially it's challenging to achieve total focus on drone operations while having to communicate with the crew, so it's worth practicing with a person. It will come in handy when you're out in the festival grounds. Stay on top of drone innovations and creatorsBoth safety and camera/drone technology are always being updated with new products and software. You should always be improving the safety of your flight operations and learning techniques from other creators. Most of my equipment and flight style has just been watching other drone pilots.

Suno AI CEO Claims People “Don’t Enjoy” Making Music
In the world of music, innovation and technology have always played a significant role in shaping the way we create consume music. One such innovation that has been making waves in the music industry is the rise of generative AI platforms like Suno AI and Udio. These platforms allow users to create music simply by providing written text prompts, instructing the software on what kind of track to produce. While this technology has been praised for its ability to democratize music production and make it accessible to a wider audience, it has also sparked controversy and legal battles. Recently, Suno AI, led by its CEO, made a bold claim that people “don’t enjoy” making music. This statement raised eyebrows in the music community, as it seemed to undermine the creative process and passion that many artists pour into their craft. Alongside Udio, Suno AI is currently facing a lawsuit from major labels Sony, Universal, and Warner. The allegations against these AI platforms suggest that their systems were trained using data from unlicensed music, used without consent, totaling around $150,000 in damages. This legal battle has brought to light the ethical implications of using AI in music production and the importance of respecting artists’ rights. Moreover, the issue of AI’s role in music has not been confined to just legal battles. In the UK, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Music has called for government action to safeguard artists in the face of AI-generated music. The group has argued that AI-generated music should be subject to regulation, including laws that require artists’ consent for their works to be used in AI training and clear attribution for AI-generated music. This call for regulation comes in response to concerns raised by artists like FKA twigs, who have spoken out about the exploitation of their likeness in AI-generated works without their consent. The Interview Highlights “We didn’t just want to build a company that makes the current crop of creators 10% faster or makes it 10% easier to make music. If you want to impact the way a billion people experience music you have to build something for a billion people,” Shulman told 20VC. “And so that is first and foremost giving everybody the joys of creating music and this is a huge departure from how it is now,” he continued. “It’s not really enjoyable to make music now […] It takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of practice, you need to get really good at an instrument or really good at a piece of production software. I think the majority of people don’t enjoy the majority of the time they spend making music.” Interviewer Harry Stebbings followed this by asking if the scenario was comparable to running, which many people find difficult to begin with, but pursue, improve and grow to love. “Most people drop out of that pursuit because it’s hard,” Shulman replied. “I think that the people you know that run, this is a highly biased selection of the population that fell in love with it.” The Future of AI and Music Despite the controversies surrounding AI in music production, there is no denying the potential for innovation and creativity that AI technology brings to the table. Generative AI platforms like Suno AI and Udio have opened up new possibilities for music creation, allowing aspiring artists and producers to experiment and collaborate in ways that were previously unimaginable. However, as we navigate the complexities of AI in music, it is essential to prioritize ethical considerations and respect artists’ rights. Looking ahead, the future of AI in music will likely be shaped by a balance between technological advancement and ethical responsibility. By establishing clear regulations and guidelines for the use of AI in music production, we can create a more sustainable and equitable ecosystem for artists, creators, and listeners alike. As we continue to explore the intersection of AI and music, it is crucial to remember the importance of human creativity, passion, and emotion in the art of music-making. Ultimately, by embracing the potential of AI while upholding ethical standards, we can ensure that music remains a source of inspiration and joy for generations to come. As the debate over AI in music production continues to evolve, it is clear that the music industry is entering a new era of innovation and transformation. By addressing the ethical challenges and legal implications of AI-generated music, we can pave the way for a more ethical, inclusive, and sustainable future for music creation. With collaboration, dialogue, and a commitment to artistic integrity, we can harness the power of AI to enhance creativity, expand opportunities, and celebrate the rich tapestry of musical expression.
