Sigma Return To Their Roots With New Label Day Ones, Release First Single ‘Chargie’
It’s time for the next chapter of a defining act in the DnB scene. Great news come from the Drum and Bass corner of the Dance industry, as the renowned pioneering duo Sigma are making a powerful return to their origins. Not only that, but they’re doing so in style, with the launch of their new imprint, Day Ones. The first single to be released on said label is theirs, and it’s called ‘Chargie‘. The birth of Day Ones has to do with musical independence, and also giving back. The duo state they are quite thankful for their origins and the early support the industry gave them, and this is an act of returning to said scene. “Day Ones is about starting fresh, but it’s also about paying homage to everything that made Sigma what it is today“, they say. “We’ve been through it all—the highs, the lows, the grind—and now we’re back doing what we love most, making music for the scene that gave us everything. No compromises, no distractions, just pure Drum’n’Bass energy. It feels like coming home“. ‘Chargie’ Day Ones’ first release comes from the bosses themselves. ‘Chargie’ is a powerful single that features the vocals of heavy icons Scrufizzer and Jamakabi, and aims to evoke the darker energy of their early work. The track signals a decisive shift for the duo as they embark on a new chapter, building upon the foundations they established over a decade ago. A fusion of 90s Jungle with flavours of Jump Up and Dancehall, the piece stands out as a fine wine: in an industry often saturated with over-the-top arrangements, heavily distorted leads, and often very heavily packed frequency spectrums at all times, this tune comes as a refresher, and a reminder that there’s another way: a more stripped-back way of producing DnB which, once the method has been mastered, can deliver the same power and rhythm that modern-day DnB looks up to. Chargie’ is the perfect way to kick things off with Day Ones. It’s raw, unapologetic, and takes us right back to our roots. We wanted to create something that reflects where drum’n’bass is now but still has that gritty energy that drew us to the genre in the first place. Working with Scrufizzer and Jamakabi was sick—they brought such a unique vibe, and this track is all about setting the tone for what’s next. -Sigma Listen to Sigma‘s brand-new ‘Chargie’, by hitting the ‘Play‘ button on the Spotify player below. Spotify and UMG Partner for New Subscription and Royalties Model
Spotify and Universal Music Group (UMG) have reached a new multi-year agreement aimed at reshaping their partnership and potentially, artist royalties. The deal is expected to introduce a tiered subscription model with benefits for “superfans.” While specifics are not yet fully disclosed. The agreement signals a shift in how music streaming services and record labels might collaborate going forward. Spotify superfan perks and royalties adjustments UMG’s vision, known as “Streaming 2.0“, is where these talks started. It suggests a “Super-Premium” subscription. Which could include perks like early access to music, exclusive deluxe editions, hi-res audio, and even opportunities for artist Q&As. This model caters to the most passionate fans, allowing them to experience music in new, immersive ways. Unsurprisingly, It looks like the profit-hungry Spotify board of directors is ready to pull the trigger. Additionally, the deal could result in higher royalty rates for songwriters, a long-standing concern. The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) had previously criticized Spotify for royalty changes, which led to a formal complaint to the FTC. With this agreement, hopefully, Spotify may address some of these concerns by offering improved rates to creators. This agreement marks Spotify’s first direct deal with a music publisher since the passage of the Music Modernization Act in 2018. While Sony Music has expressed concerns about Spotify’s royalty structure, it is unclear if they are doing the same. The shift could inspire other publishers to join in as well, further altering royalties in the streaming industry. What could this mean for streaming and royalties? The agreement between Spotify and UMG highlights a potential shift in the way streaming platforms and music publishers engage with both fans and creators. If successful, this model could lead to more customized subscription experiences for listeners and improved financial conditions for artists. The ongoing developments in this partnership could influence future changes in how music streaming services operate and how songwriters are compensated in the broader industry. In contrast, this could set up heavier responsibilities for musicians who want to opt into higher royalties. Then, just like Spotify has done in the past, negatively change those rates. For example, In 2023, Spotify adjusted its mechanical royalty rates, which are the payments made to songwriters and publishers for streams of their music. The company’s consistent adjustments have sparked a backlash from both songwriters and publishers. Both parties argue that Spotify’s business model and compensation structure benefit the platform while hurting creators. In response, Spotify has made some adjustments to appease critics, but tensions remain regarding fair compensation for the artists who drive the service’s growth. Clubbers Are Reviewing Space's $17 Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Club Space isn't just known for its balanced diet of Red Bull-vodkas and sleepless nights—it's also dishing out a life-altering grilled cheese sandwich that's turning exhausted ravers into food critics by sunrise. The iconic Miami club serves up "a symphony of crisp, buttery bread and molten cheese—where simplicity meets pure indulgence," per its downstairs restaurant, Space Odyssey. While the understated nature of the sandwich may come across as deceptive when taking into account its hefty $17 price tag, many are taking to social media to share their honest reviews of the late-night—err, early morning—snack. One customer rated the grilled cheese a solid 7 out of 10, but their review must be taken with a grain of salt since they skipped out on the holy grail of condiments: the Miami hot sauce. Even without the dip, though, she raved about the melty cheese, crispy bread and mini dill gherkin pickles, which added the perfect crunch. View the original article to see embedded media. Another grilled cheese connoisseur decided the value was fair considering the cost, proving that this isn't just another hyped-up, Instagrammable snack. He felt that Space's grilled cheese offered a solid portion size and a top-tier cheese pull. All things considered, he rated the grilled cheese a 4.2 out of 5 because—as we all know—decimal points make food reviews much more legit. View the original article to see embedded media. Monolink unveils first single of 2025 with ‘Mesmerized’
Inaugurating 2025 with his first original production of the year, internationally celebrated German record producer and live act Monolink returns with his brand new single, Mesmerized. Famed for his inimitable song-writing skills and unique ability to blend his own soulful vocals with infectious, electronic soundscapes, Monolink once again delivers a record that captivates both body and mind as he paves the way for another landmark year of new original music. Out now via Berlin-based record label Embassy One, Mesmerized offers a rich tapestry of emotion, rhythm and storytelling that further solidifies Monolink’s place as one of the most innovative voices in music today. From the very first note, Mesmerized draws listeners into a world of contrasts. Deep longing is intertwined with stirring instrumentation, as Steffen Linck’s pensive lyrics glide over layers of pulsating percussion and moody synths, creating a track that’s equally suited for moonlit dancefloors and reflective moments. It’s a journey that balances vulnerability and groove, inviting listeners to get lost in its hypnotic embrace. Speaking about the new single Monolink commented: ““Mesmerized” is a song about the gravity of human connection. It’s about vulnerability, surrender, and the fear of stepping into the unknown. It was the first song I wrote when we started working on my new album and it somehow turned into the sonic journey that it is now.” Accompanying Mesmerized is a visually stunning music video that unfolds as a surreal and dark love story. Directed by Nicola von Leffern and starring Jana McKinnon and Simon Frühwirth, it follows Ava and August, a couple whose passionate relationship is strained by fear of abandonment, deep emotional wounds and toxic fights. Despite moments of vulnerability, tenderness and devotion, their connection is still shadowed by a simmering darkness. The narrative plays out against the striking backdrop of Stromboli, a volcanic island in Italy known for its recent eruptions — a powerful metaphor for their tumultuous relationship. Dream-like sequences add an ethereal quality that blurs the lines between reality and emotion, mirroring the fragile, volatile nature of their love. A master of weaving narratives through sound, Monolink continues to break boundaries between electronic production and live performance. His music resonates on a deeply human level, inviting listeners into a sonic world that is as personal as it is universal. With Mesmerized, he reaffirms his talent for creating music that doesn’t just move your feet, but also stirs your soul. Étienne de Crécy drops new track ‘Take It Back’, featuring Sports
French DJ, producer and perennial electronic artist Étienne de Crécy has today released a new track ‘Take It Back’, featuring US indie duo Sports. Neo-nostalgic and rhythmic, the band’s dream-pop vocals are backed by a signature, one-of-a-kind de Crécy composition, transporting the listener into a realm of euphoric serenity. ‘Take It Back’ follows November’s ‘World Away’, the first single to be released from de Crécy’s forthcoming sixth studio album, WARM UP. The return of the artist saw him collaborate with Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) on the track. Here, de Crécy’s melodic mastery and prowess in diverse electronic production flawlessly combines with Taylor’s renowned hypnotic vocal. With this new album, WARM UP, Étienne de Crécy is taking bold steps. The man known for moving people on the dancefloor has crafted an album meant to be enjoyed at home during the day: the tracks are more chill than clubby, more organic than electronic, and warmer than metallic. Has he gone off into the deep end? It’s more likely the world has pushed him during the height of COVID – a time when beats weren’t exactly echoing through clubs – to create an album for home listening. It’s a shift in tempo. Another hallmark of the project is its collaborations. For each track, de Crécy invites an artist, often far-removed from his usual scene, having asked them to freely write a song based on the instrumental he shares – his only guiding principle. This has led the artist out of his comfort zone: from the world of clubs and the iconic cube that’s carried him high, from a dancefloor fired up by his sets, from an album where he would have total control, into a soundscape with deliberately blurred boundaries – even reflected on the album artwork’s typography – and with more unpredictability too. The lineup he brings together includes an array of surprising personalities, with musical influences spanning indie-pop to rap. Here, the DJ of heady, dizzying nights reinvents himself as a generous, curious host, sharing his infectious joy. “I reached out to many artists, mostly English or American, whose work I admire and listen to at home. Most of them come from indie-rock backgrounds—not electronic music at all. My request probably caught some by surprise, especially within the younger US indie scene. For example, the band Sports was one of the first to respond.” “During the travel restrictions, I had to start working remotely. I would send out instrumentals, and in return, receive vocal tracks. We occasionally managed to arrange recording sessions later on, but there are still some artists I’ve never met in person—everything was done over email.” The album features collaborations with a diverse array of artists: Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Peter Von Poehl, Frank Leone, Master Peace, Olivia Merilahti, Sports, Sugar Pit, Kero Kero Bonito, Caroline Rose and Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz). In March, de Crécy heads on a European headline tour, including a date at London’s XOYO on March 8th. Full dates below. Tickets available to purchase here.
