  1. The leading Indian entity of all things underground has announced its return and how! Sounds Good Lifestyle and Music Festival was never your average general festival. It was an experience so surreal that was sure to ramp up the audio adrenaline of the ones attending. 2 days, 3 stages, more than 35 artists, a sound ecosystem that reverberated through the widest of echelons spanning across the entire venue, the list goes on. The line-up not constricted to a particular genre, there was something on the platter for every ear drum. Read on to recap what was unleashed across 48 hours of pure musical immersion. The Main Stage The mainstage witnessed the ever persistently prominent ‘Doty flicks’ on Day 1. They were churned out by none other than their treasured architect, Simon Doty. A pivotal torchbearer of afro-house music across the globe, Shimza made his way for his first tour in the country. The final act of Day 1 was culmination in the form of the first Indian Anjunadeep heavyweight Anyasa going B2B with the iconic Ankytrixx. Anyasa B2B Ankytrixx Day 1 was just an extended teaser for things in store for Day 2. From Jeremy Olander closing off with his exemplary unreleased ‘Love Flight’ to the haunting yet groovy basslines & synths of Patrice Baumel. The Afterlife sensation Kevin De Vries with an exclusive set this time in India laced mostly with the melodic techno chart toppers. Jeremy Olander with ‘Love Flight’ Vendetta Stage The ‘hard, not for the faint-hearted’ enclosure. A stage that imbibed the theme of point of no return till the speakers actually stopped. Eli Acula & Fjaak on their Indian debut were on a mission to substantially add to their fanbase through their respective cracker of sets. Boston 168 and the Indian techno pioneer Arjun Vagale (back from a ‘digital detox’) setting the adrenaline rush on Day 2. Oguz’s set to close off Vendetta was probably the most epochal act of the entire festival. Simply stating, if razing a rave had a visible action, this was it. Oguz Heineken 0.0 Stage Synonymous to the festival were the number of acts touring the country the first time. Arapu & Priku with their signature house basslines and driving synths headlined the Heineken 0.0 stage on Day 1. Day 2 testified the prominent Anjunadeep star QRION brewing her signature hits coupled with others. The impactful and driving frequencies of Lauren Mia taking centre stage. The ascent of Kilimanjaro to close off was enough reason to cherish for Afro-centric percussive energy connoisseurs. The Synopsis The true yardstick of a festival creating an impact is the aftertaste it leaves the next sunrise. Curated stages, choiciest selection of an artist roster and a sound system (Funktion One) ensure to garner one. An experience that lingers, Sounds Good Festival might not have the grandeur of an Exit Festival or Time Warp, but can be India’s answer to equivalents in the coming years. One that can stand out and carve a niche of its own which not necessarily might be temporary. An experience to eagerly seek again right from the moment the existing edition concludes. 2. Jacob Colon has carved out a distinctive space in the House music landscape, blending Latin rhythms with deep, infectious grooves. His latest release, ‘Taino Beats’, sees him joining forces with longtime collaborators Sted-E & Hybrid Heights, bringing together their combined production prowess for a track that feels both organic and club-ready. With a hypnotic flute riff at its core and a driving percussive foundation, the record showcases the seamless fusion of their styles. We caught up with Jacob to talk about the creative process behind ‘Taino Beats’, his approach to collaboration, and where his music is headed next. Hi Jacob Colon, how are you feeling about your new release? I’m feeling very good about it. It was great to get on a record with my friends and create something that I wouldn’t have if I completed this record on my own.  To start, how would you describe the sound of ‘Taino Beats’ for listeners who  haven’t heard it yet? It’s a nice Latin Tech House groove featuring a flute riff that carries the main idea of the track. Overall dope track to dance and rock to.  How did the collaboration with Sted-E & Hybrid Heights come about? We’ve got some history together. I was featured as a remixer on a project which attained the #1 spot in the Billboard Dance charts. We all earned a plaque as recognition for that achievement. Since then we’ve kept a great music connection and have worked together on different things like guest mixes and such. What was your approach towards blending your signature Latin-infused House  style with Sted-E & Hybrid Heights’ production energy? Same as always. Make something hot!  Can you walk us through the creative process of making this track? Did you start  with a groove, a melody, or something else? The drum groove was sent over to me and I laid down the melodic elements like the flute, strings, etc. After the main idea was decided the structure and everything else followed.  What elements of ‘Taino Beats’ stand out to you as the most unique or defining? The percussion section is always my favorite but I would also say the melody is pretty catchy and blends with the beat well.  The track has a deep, hypnotic groove—how did you develop that signature  rhythm? It was a collaborative effort. Like I mentioned earlier, the flute melody which carries the main idea works really well with the drum and bass groove which creates that vibe and feeling. The tone of the flute I think also really draws you in.  How do you think this track differs from your previous releases? I’m pretty happy about how this track came about. It was nice to receive a nice bass and drum groove already put together, which I believe gave me fresh ideas to incorporate the melody with. Usually, when I put the drum and bass together, I may feel in a box because I’ve already been listening to the song for a little while.  What did you learn from working with Sted-E & Hybrid Heights that you might apply to future productions? Don’t overthink it. That’s a struggle for every producer lol. The track has a powerful bassline and intricate percussion—what was your  approach to sound design? More of my creativity went into the melodic elements, Sted-E & Hybrid Heights laid down those elements.  What are your hopes for the impact of ‘Taino Beats’ on the House music scene? I hope people notice the differentiation in the sounds used in this track. I didn’t use any synthesizer sounds and stuck with more organic sounds.  Finally, with each new track, you seem to push your sound forward—where do you see your music going next? I’m always cooking up tracks so you have to stay tuned in for that. Just know there’s more coming.  With ‘Taino Beats’ Jacob Colon continues to evolve his signature sound while staying true to the Latin-infused House grooves that define his style. His collaboration with Sted-E & Hybrid Heights highlights the power of creative synergy, resulting in a track that feels fresh yet unmistakably his own. As he looks ahead to future projects, one thing is certain, his drive to push his music forward remains constant. 6. Melbourne bred indie-electronic tastemaker Mild Minds, born Benjamin David, has officially bequeathed his sophomore studio album, GEMINI, via ODESZA‘s esteemed Foreign Family Collective. Featuring a total of nine innovative new dance tracks, the same number of recordings housed on David’s 2020-issued debut album, MOOD, GEMINI explores a plethora of electronic sub-genres while effecting an invigorating sonic consistency. The brand new project opens with “I NEED U,” which combines trance-like synth patterns and future bass-reminiscent vocal sampling, layered atop intricate drum-and-bass percussion. “TEARDROPS,” on the other hand, explores tech-house drum sequences and stutter house synth programming. Still, the listening experience is not once derailed by anything that might be “out of place.” In revitalizing turn of the century club music through an emotional lens, the GRAMMY-nominated producer’s latest undertaking also capitalizes on two infectious joint efforts, “1 DAY 2 LATE,” featuring fellow Melbourne artist Juno Mamba, as well as edapollo-assisted “IN YOUR EYES.” “After years of navigating the pressures of the music industry, I was hesitant to step too far into the spotlight,” shares David in a press statement, adding, “But taking the plunge into my own project—something I was often discouraged from pursuing—has been seriously transformative. Seeing it resonate has been incredibly fulfilling and given me a newfound confidence and freedom.” Having kicked off the GEMINI tour on February 7th at The Atlantis in Washington, D.C., Mild Minds looks ahead to three dates in Canada before bringing his live show back to the US. Browse all of Mild Minds’ North American tour dates, currently spanning through April, and stream his freshly unveiled sophomore album, GEMINI, below. 7. What would Ultra be without Carl Cox? It's a fair question, considering the techno legend has performed a staggering 19 times since the festival's inception back in 1999. A lynchpin of Ultra's storied RESISTANCE MegaStructure, Cox didn't appear last year but is now returning in 2025 and once again shaping the event's future by debuting an ambitious live show, "Evolution." The performance will harken back to the ethos of 2022's scintillating Electronic Generations album, Cox's first-ever body of work, he told us at the time, as a live artist. He'll be using a combination of hardware and software "to create and manipulate sounds in real-time," he said. "I’ll be playing my music live on stage, using a combination of hardware and software to create and manipulate sounds in real-time," Cox explained. "Unlike a DJ set with pre-recorded tracks, or my hybrid set that combines elements of live performance and DJing, I’ll be crafting and evolving the music live, adding an extra layer of spontaneity and energy to the performance." Celebrating the festival's 25th anniversary, he's also bringing his "Carl Cox Invites" series to Ultra for the first time this year, inviting Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin DEF EFX X0X, Stephan Bodzin, Joris Voorn, Dubfire EVOLV, Marc Romboy and a special b2b performance between him and Christopher Coe. We've teamed with the iconic festival to share an exclusive selection of tracks, curated by Cox, for its official Spotify playlist, System Breach. "My playlist for System Breach is going to knock you out," Cox tells EDM.com. "I didn’t hold anything back for this one and I think it’s a perfect soundtrack for the countdown to Ultra's 25-year anniversary. See you on the dancefloor!" 8. Lane 8 is gearing up for his Childish tour, where fans can expect a unique experience emphasizing connection over distractions. The Deep House legend is popular for his “no phones” shows and has promoted this format since 2016. His message to fans is clear: let go of phones and embrace the energy of the crowd, making the live show experience more meaningful. Recently, He took to social media to deliver a long and impactful message describing his why with honesty and his own story. “i’ve been thinking about how lucky i was to fall in love with electronic music in the 2000s right before smartphones really took over the world. i was in college in los angeles and i had a group of friends i went to shows with and the feeling of being in a club, surrounded by friends and strangers, all dancing and celebrating to the same music, was so profound and incredible that it made me stop and say “this is what i want to do with my life”.” Lane 8’s concept behind ‘no phones’ shows In the message, Lane 8 reflects on his journey into dance music, mentioning that the early 2000s was a time when fans could truly experience music without the distractions of smartphones. For him, his ‘This Never Happened’ (TNH)(no phones) concept is about recreating that atmosphere where fans connect face to face, creating an unforgettable collective experience. His shows are designed for fans to engage with the music and each other, removing the pressure of filming moments for social media. He says directly that he too struggles with wanting to take his phone out instead of living in the moment. “he reality is that I grapple with being on the phone too often just as much as the next person. I have had periods even recently where I used my phone way more than I would have liked to and then felt really guilty and gross about it afterwards.” The impact of phones on social interactions Smartphones have significantly impacted social interactions since their creation. This is leading to increased feelings of isolation and reduced face-to-face communication. A 2017 study found that young adults aged 19 to 32 with higher social media usage are more than three times as likely to feel socially isolated compared to those who use social media less. Additionally, a 2022 study reported that 37.7% of respondents felt strongly lonely having increased screen time being a contributing factor. Furthermore, research indicates that the presence of smartphones during social interactions can negatively affect the quality of conversations. A study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology found that the mere presence of a phone can impact the quality of human interactions. Altogether, there is data that supports Lane 8’s claims about using your smartphone at a social interaction like a concert. Lane 8 Childish Tour As Lane 8 prepares for his tour, he looks forward to sharing his latest album, Childish, which embraces uninhibited self-expression. This album is a reflection of his vision to bring back the freedom of dancing without concerns for tech distractions. The Childish tour is not just about the music but about creating a space where fans can reconnect with each other in a deeply human way. Lane 8 continues to innovate in the electronic music scene, and his ‘no phones’ philosophy is helping his fans rediscover the joy of being present at live shows. 11. A new sound is emerging deep within Lumon Industries' labyrinthine halls, and this time, it's sanctioned by the board—and ODESZA. ODESZA have joined forces with Apple TV+ to sever and reconstruct Theodore Shapiro's unsettling Severance soundtrack into an eerie remix, which pulses with the anxious energy of an "innie" stepping off the elevator. Lumon's handbook probably doesn't approve of such musical experimentation, but fans of both Severance and the superstar electronic duo will find plenty of macrodata easter eggs to refine in the new track, which spans a staggering 23 minutes. "We wanted to take people on a journey and give a wider breadth of music and play off and reinterpret Teddy's score in a unique way," ODESZA's Clayton Mills told Billboard. "We put different chords under a lot of his melodies, while also trying to stay true to the vibe of the show, which is kind of creepy and subversive. You’re not overtly aware of this dark underbelly." Meanwhile in the real world, the second season of the brilliant Apple TV+ sci-fi show is breaking records after toppling Ted Lasso as the platform's most-watched series globally. Severance has amassed 589 million minutes of viewership in the U.S. over all existing episodes, ballooning subscriptions by 126%, according to data released by the streaming service. 13. A universal feature of the human condition is balancing the temptation to sin with the deep-seated desire to be good. That struggle lies at the heart of "Original Sin," the new collaboration between Ganja White Night and Boogie T. Out now via Ganja White Night's own SubCarbon Records imprint, the track will appear on their upcoming album Sprouted, due out February 28th. "Original Sin" finds the Belgian dubstep duo renewing their creative partnership with Louisiana native Boogie T, adding another chapter to a catalog that already includes bangers like "Burnin," "Clarity" and "Flava." But this time, their genre-fusing production takes on an even deeper meaning, brought to life through another stunning animated music video. Wrapped in a compelling blend of reggae, rock and bass, the new single is much more than just another dancefloor-ready heater from Ganja White Night and Boogie T—it’s an allegorical journey packed with stunning visuals and masterful sound design. With Sprouted on the horizon, "Original Sin" sets the stage for what promises to be one of Ganja White Night’s most compelling releases yet. A soundtrack for the internal struggleAt its core, "Original Sin" is a commentary on the duality of human nature—our ability to sin, our desire for redemption and the forces that pull us in opposing directions. Musically, it’s a seamless fusion of Ganja White Night’s unmistakable bassline craftsmanship and Boogie T’s signature island-rock aesthetic. The track begins with a breezy, sun-soaked groove, driven by Boogie T’s laid-back vocals and blues-inflected guitar work. The opening feels like an invitation to relax on a Caribbean shoreline, but the tone quickly shifts as the lyrics hint at an internal war: "Torn between a righteous path or a rockstar lifestyle." The moment temptation takes hold, the track plunges into a turbulent sea of churning bass and distorted guitar riffs. An animated battle for the soulThe animated video visually manifests this conflict with cinematic precision. It opens with a peaceful scene: Boogie T fishing on a wooden dock, accompanied by a pink, gummy bear-like creature resembling a youthful version of Ganja White Night’s recurring character, Mr. Wobble. But the tranquility is short-lived as a demonic version of Boogie T splits from his body and drags him underwater. What follows is a frantic descent into darkness. Baby Wobble desperately tries to save his blonde-bearded friend, throwing him a lifeline as a monstrous figure looms beneath the surface. The animation captures the pitfalls of temptation—how easily one can be pulled under when vices take hold—and the battle intensifies as the song’s explosive drop fuels a clash between virtue and corruption. A resolution through forgivenessThematically, the showdown of good versus evil and the frenzied strumming of a string instrument are reminiscent of Charlie Daniels' 1979 hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." But here, Boogie T’s battle isn’t against an external enemy. His greatest adversary is himself. Just when it seems like darkness will prevail, Baby Wobble intervenes with newfound strength, fighting off the demon with bursts of bass-driven force. When the opportunity to deliver a final blow to his "dark side" arises, Boogie T chooses another path. As the lyrics echo "Hope one day I'm forgiven," he places a hand on his shadow self’s shoulder, accepting it rather than destroying it. It’s a powerful moment, one that suggests true peace comes not from eradicating our darker impulses, but from understanding and accepting them. 16. 15 years ago, they taught us what it meant to be slizzard. Now, The Cataracs and DEV are back to prove lightning can strike twice. The architects of your questionable college decisions have reunited for a new single, "Make Ya Body Whistle," out today via EMPIRE. The track might not change the game for previous collabs like "Bass Down Low," but it's an undeniable banger for anyone who misses the days when Kesha was spelling her name with a dollar sign and BlackBerry BBM was the height of social connectivity. "Make Ya Body Whistle" arrives like a time capsule from the early 2010s club scene, when phrases like "on fleek" dominated pop culture and Ed Hardy t-shirts were somehow cool. For fans who spent that time pounding energy drinks and dancing to "Like a G6," this reunion delivers a dopamine hit of musical nostalgia while proving The Cataracs and DEV still know how to craft an electro-pop anthem. Those vintage, trunk-thumping subs are back along with DEV's unapologetic vocals, which retain their characteristic blend of detached cool and sultry invitation. Meanwhile, David Singer-Vine of The Cataracs drops his own lyrical callback to "Like a G6," rapping, "Poppin' bottles in the ice like a hurricane / Now I'm feelin' so fly like an airplane." 19. Long before John Summit was topping charts and headlining festivals, he was an accountant with a dream—and Westend was one of the people pushing him to chase it. Years of collaborative DJ sets and shared studio time have forged a creative bond between the two producers, and a full-circle moment has now arrived with "Drum Death," Westend’s new single released today on Summit's Experts Only imprint. Earlier this week, Summit reflected on his career, crediting Westend as one of the key figures who encouraged him to take music seriously. Their history spans from B2Bs played for a handful of people to a breakout Dirtybird collaboration in 2019, and more than a few shows together. View the original article to see embedded media. "Drum Death" is another standout moment for Westend, who was named to the EDM.com Class of 2023 and continues to be a force in shaping the future of house music. Featuring vocals from HOSANNA, the track's kinetic groove, cyberpunkian textures, and crisp, percolating basslines make for a peak-time powerhouse. Its entrancing vocal chops and revving low-end create a hypnotic push-and-pull, making it the kind of record that grips a dancefloor. 20. The ghost of 90s rave culture possesses modern techno in Reinier Zonneveld's latest dancefloor weapon, "Tokyo." Out now via the producer's own Filth On Acid label, "Tokyo" is a calculated shot of adrenaline that knows exactly what it wants to be. The track, co-produced by Dea Magna, marries techno's thrilling pulse with happy hardcore's sugar rush, creating something that feels both nostalgic and current. Despite drawing from happy hardcore, a genre known for excess, Zonneveld and Magna maintain control of the chaos. Their production is crisp and intentional, ingeniously interpolating whistle samples in a nod to the golden age of warehouse raves. Meanwhile, Magna's vocals ride the line between playful and hypnotic, following dance music's tried-and-true formula of invitation and release. "Come with me to Tokyo" works as both a literal call to adventure and a metaphor for escape—exactly what you want when you're lost in a crowd at 3am. 21. D.O.D. is back with "Wrap Yourself Around Me," an emotive house track that manages to be both an embrace and an exit wound. The new single is out now via Armin van Buuren's Armada label and it features NORTH, a rising singer-songwriter who recently featured on tracks by Gorgon City and Wilkinson. There's a special kind of loneliness that comes after someone says "I love you" and "goodbye" in the same breath. NORTH's lyricism crystallizes that moment atop propulsive house production from D.O.D., who is back with his first track of 2025 after sold-out tours across the UK, North America and Australia. What really elevates "Wrap Yourself Around Me," however, is its restraint. Rather than drowning in melodrama, D.O.D. lets the tension build naturally, especially in the track's cinematic break. It's dance music that doesn't shy away from its emotional core, proving that club tracks can carry real weight without sacrificing their ability to move a crowd. 25. Nine hundred million Spotify streams buy you a lot of creative freedom. Julie Bergan’s using hers to make dance music on her own terms. ‘EURONITES’ caps a year of relentless evolution from the Norwegian powerhouse, transforming her top-line expertise into peak-time euphoria. This is just as the name suggests. Big, playful, unpretentious dance music. Lead single “Dance All Night” showcases exactly what happens when chart-proven songwriting meets club architecture. It’s the culmination of Bergan’s fearless 2024 run – from the self-produced “Kiss Me Better” that racked up 6.3 million views to “Eternity Tonight,” which reimagines Rosa Helikopter through a Darude-tinted lens. The timing feels right, both for the genre and Bergan’s own career arc. Fresh off launching Karate Records and lighting up Coachella with Alan Walker, she’s got the platform and the prowess to push boundaries. Her collaborations with David Guetta and track record of sharing stages with Dua Lipa prove she can play in any arena. But EURONITES isn’t about proving anything – it’s about pure creative voltage, channeled straight to the dance floor.
