  1. German alt-rockers Milky Chance have been unstoppable over the past year, capping off 2021 with over 1 billion streams, and earlier this year released “Synchronize”, a pulsating club track that has hit over 20 million streams. The two have also been hard at work building out eco-conscious initiatives through their Milky Change sustainability initiatives, which seeks to promote eco-conscious touring and has planted over 100,000 trees to date. Now, they’ve tapped techno aficionado Christian Löffler to provide his unique perspective on their smash, “Unknown Song“. The result is fantastic, as Löffler beautifully infuses the remix with peaceful, deep house rhythms that perfectly compliment sweet folksy melodies from Milky Chance lead vocalist Clemens Rehbein and guest vocalist Paulina Eisenberg. Between gently swaying electronics and thoughtful preservation of the guitar riffs, Löffler yet again mesmerizes our ears with this remix. Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 2. It’s great having some bangers to kick off your weekend, but it’s also nice having songs on the other end of the spectrum to accommodate your weekend activities. We are loving this new single from DU0, “Overflow“, featuring the beautiful vocals of Emily Coulston. It’s exciting to see both artists coming together again, especially since their previous track “Come Home” was such a sensational song. With “Overflow“, they create an ode to feeling of happiness you experience when you find that special someone. Soaked in tranquility, DU0 seamlessly pairs delicate melodies and rhythms underneath a blissful vocal from Emily Coulston. “In the past I’ve tended to have quite dark lyrics and time and this time around I wanted to do something different. Lyrically it’s about when you meet someone who makes you so happy that you can’t keep it inside. I teamed up with Emily Coulston again and her dreamy vocals blends beautifully into the acoustic sounds I used for the production.” – DU0 Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 3. Rezz just recently played yet another packed-out EDC set in Las Vegas, and she’s back with her newest single — this time, she’s tackling a cover of Eurythmics’ ’80s classic “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” with fknsyd. The two previously collaborated on “Let Me In” off her most recent album, Spiral. On the new track, Rezz says, “I originally started creating this instrumental for Nightmare on Rezz Street but then I started to hear the sweet dreams vocal over top of it. I played around with the vocal and loved the result, but I didn’t want it to be just a cover. So I reached out to fknsyd to help me record the vocal and it came together so organically. I’m really happy with how this turned out and it’s been so cool playing it live and seeing the crowd’s reaction night after night!” For a list of all show dates to hear the new single live, and to purchase tickets, visit HERE. 4. Finally, after five years, Calvin Harris is back with the first single from his highly anticipated Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, with “Potion” featuring Dua Lipa & Young Thug. This marks the second time Harris has collaborated with both artists. Calvin previously worked with Dua Lipa on their smash hit “One Kiss,” which topped charts around the world and was the biggest selling single of 2018 in the UK. In 2017, Harris worked with Young Thug on the first installment of the Funk Wav Bounces project on the single “Heatstroke” (which also features Pharrell and Ariana Grande). “It’s an honor to work with Dua and Thug again. They’re both such dynamic artists who have contributed so much to today’s musical landscape,” says Calvin. The psychedelic music video for “Potion,” directed by Calvin’s longtime creative collaborator, Emil Nava, re-introduces the energy of Funk Wav Bounces setting the tone for a big summer for Calvin. 5. Howen is a 20 year old producer/DJ/musician from the Netherlands who loves jazz and funk and doesn’t hide it in his music. His sound is unique, combining EDM, Pop and Jazz/Funk influences to create something that you won’t hear very often in the Dance scene. His music has earned the support of major labels as well, as he’s already released with Spinnin’, Universal and Heartfeldt Records. Trevor Omoto is an electronic DJ/Producer from Toronto, Canada. Near the end of 2019, Trevor finally found the break that he was looking for when Brooks and Jonas Aden reacted to his unreleased single. “The Way” which they instantly fell in love with. A couple of minutes later, his phone started blowing up and thousands of people started following and messaging him which drastically changed his view on music. He started getting recognition from other sensational international artists and that was when Trevor knew he has the ability to make a positive impact in the dance community. Now, these two talented artists have come together for their Future House single, “Not Mine“, rendering a sophisticated sound to the genre that you’d typically hear. Between a beautiful topline and a flurry of melodies, Howen & Omoto create a track that is sure to stand the test of time. Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 6. With a massive lineup of collaborators already this year, which includes names such as Runnit, Bass Ventura, Jack the Human and Wreckno, as well as the talent to match her impressive accolades, HerShe is one of the most exciting names to keep on your radar this year. Taking inspiration from multiple electronic music genres, while priding herself on using her platform as a way to spread positive social messages, especially to other aspiring female and LGBTQ+ musicians, HerShe’s talents span from singing and songwriting to beatboxing and DJing, something which is evident in her freshly-released EP. Titled Breath Control and spanning over 4 tracks, HerShe’s brand new EP includes the previously released single “The MASK,” on top of three brand new tunes that are bound to resonate with her growing audience. Kicking off the EP, “RUMORS” features intoxicating vocals and explosive mid-tempo drops, while “HITTEM WITH THE JERSEY” continues the sonic journey; a track which was created by HerShe exclusively by beatboxing. “NEUROTIC” is yet another gem, combining heavy rap vocals with minimal, trap-driven drops. 7. Already marking their third release this year, exciting collaborators Ocean Dive, Junona Boys and MØRFI have just teamed up once again to share what might arguably be their most exciting cover to date with “Boys.” Taking on the 2017 original “Boys,” which was released by pop icon Charli XCX, Ocean Dive, Junona Boys and MØRFI’s rendition turns the minimal pop gem into a full-on slap house anthem that’s bound to start lighting up dancefloors across the world in no time. Ocean Dive, Junona Boys and MØRFI are close collaborators, thus having curated an unmatched synergy that is more than apparent on “Boys.” Out via ENFORCE RCRDS, the single immediately kicks off with the help of thumping kicks and our beloved slap house basslines. As the exciting vocals lead listeners towards the drop, the tune sports a short verse break that switches to trap drums and hi-hats, making up for a unique change of pace, before the climax explodes into dance madness. Ocean Dive has had a meteoric rise since he started releasing music back in 2021, managing to sign his debut single “Where It Hurts” to Sony Music Entertainment Sweden, and continuing by releasing music through labels such as One Seven Music and Warner Music Russia. He has been extensively working with ENFORCE RECORDS in 2022, having already released 9 singles since January, and amassed millions of collective streams. Junona Boys is a Ukrainian artist and producer who has built a massive following on social media, as well as amassed millions of streams across platforms through his diverse repertoire of songs and viral covers, most notably his redo of “Relax, Take It Easy” by MIKA. MØRFI on the other hand is one of the most exciting rising names within the slap house genre right now, having extensively worked with the likes of EQRIC and Coopex. His debut release “Hate Me” alongside Besomorph and EQRIC covered Ellie Goulding’s homonymous single featuring Juice WRLD, and has amassed more than 7 million Spotify streams to date, while being featured on editorial playlists such as Main Stage and Dance Brandneu. 8. Cover remixes are still hot and all over those editorial playlists and we have a fine example to share today. When touching a classic like Imagine Dragons, ‘Enemy’ proceed with caution but these three talented musicians have hit the nail smack on the head and served up a smash. The Panther’s Groove label have been dropping viral track after viral track and this latest release is no exception. With impacting vocal melodies, crisp basslines and a huge chorus that sticks with you all summer long. This is definitely a motorway speed demon of a track so get playing this loud ASAP and have caution with those bass speakers. This article was first published on Your EDM. 9. Straight from the winding roads of South Italy, we have a new talented which is really stuck on our radar in the name of Falling Decibyls. We are proud to share his latest release, ‘Miss Your Touch’. Featuring emotive vocals, anthemic dark synths and a huge club ready drop. This track is expertly crafted from start from finish grabbing the lister with the unique samples and driving signature Decibyls sound. We had the opportunity to catch up with this rising star. How did you get into focusing on an electronic music career as Falling Decibyls? I became more focused on an Electronic Music career because of my fascination with the sound design. I had been listening to a lot of New Age/Electronic music at the time and I was amazed at how the producers were mixing traditional songs with modern sounds. This led to me wanting to explore the ways I could be involved in music production in this genre. I was always playing in orchestras and bands but I knew that I wanted to produce my own music and the electronic genre was the most interesting one to me. What type of electronic genres do you enjoy the most? I enjoy listening to Dance, Electro House, Future House, Progressive House, Trap and some forms of Trance. Do you have a favorite show that you’ve played? My most favorite show was playing at Genesis in Toronto. What advice would you give to producers who are trying to achieve success in the music industry? My advice to music producers would be to surround yourself with a good team. Having the right engineers and vocalists will help immensely. It is also important to know how to promote your music. Networking is so important and this will guide you in meeting the people who will be a part of your team and push your project forward. I couldn’t have done what I have accomplished without a great bunch of individuals in my life. And always pursue your passion. Don’t worry too much about the numbers or streams. It will all come as long as you are focused on your creativity and goals. Was the COVID lockdowns a benefit or a hindrance to your artistry/career? COVID did pose some technical problems for my career. Sometimes my vocalists couldn’t get into the studio due to them being closed. Sometimes I couldn’t get engineers to mix and master for the same reasons. Also, a lot of people were somewhat depressed during this time making it difficult to be creative and driven. I did however put out a lot of music during this time and COVID taught me a lot about how to be patient and persistent. A lot of masterpieces can come out of adverse and difficult times so always stay the course. What is in store for Falling Decibyls for the rest of 2022? Falling Decibyls is working on many more tracks and will be releasing new music consistently in 2022. I will also be introducing a new character and theme for my artwork designs. I am constantly trying to stay current and bring music and visuals that will stimulate the heart and mind. Watch out for some deep and driven music as well as inspiring and stimulating marketing. 14. Summer is just about here, and one excited we’re really excited about is the debut of ÜLÉ, coming to Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, MO June 24-25. Brothers Austin Laing and Jake Laing are hometown heroes in the event creation space and music scene. They started throwing massive house parties in 2014, and since then, their Project Laing company has made enormous strides. Having a deep desire to push the limitations of what locals in Kansas City can handle, ÜLÉ Music & Arts Festival is their pride and joy, infusing this 2-day event with as much local flavor as they can, from the food vendors and suppliers, to the staff. Their intrinsic desire to contribute to the city that’s given them so much makes the work put in for ÜLÉ a labor of love. The inauguration of ÜLÉ will feature massive headliners Slander on Friday, June 24th and RL Grime on Saturday June 25th. The supporting acts are nothing short of diverse and on-trend. Performing Friday is a a coveted DJ set from Jai Wolf, along with superb singer/songwriter/producer/DJ Elohim, and others. Joining Saturday are sure to be incredible sets from the likes of Ekali, Sebastian Paul, and Jooby Truth, to name a few. Hosted at a location many Kansas City natives will be familiar with, Children’s Mercy Park – recently labeled the #4 highest rated venue in the USA – has been a spot for several renowned festivals including Farm Aid, Flatlands Country Music Festival, and Buzz Beach Ball. Capable of executing cutting-edge audio and world class visual production, there couldn’t be a better spot in Kansas City for these headlining and supporting names to come do what they were born to do. Check out the video below for a taste of what to expect this year. If you don’t have travel plans, you just might want to put this on your itinerary! 15. If you’re not familiar, Dead Weight is the deathstep project of Chicago based Jackson Iturbide that stands for aggressive catharsis and against self-harm and harming others. With beats and 808s in the vein of Skrillex and Maurauda, energy inspired by Slipknot, and vocals inspired by Napalm Death, Dead Weight fuses the styles of dubstep and death metal to unleash an ominous aggression that bids you to let your emotions run wild and realize how alive you really are. Rather than harming yourself or others, Ollie (as he goes by when the makeup goes on) invites you to let your rage out to Dead Weight, and reminds you that there is no rainbow without the rain. “Dead Weight is a light switch to me. And I aim for others to see it that way too. The brutal and aggressive style is pushed with the Intention of relief. To untangle the noose. Don’t harm others or yourself..Rather, put the volume to 11 and let the music take the brunt of your energy.” – Death Weight Now, Dead Weight is back with a monstrous tune, titled “The Swarm” that’s packed to the brim with peak time energy. It’s about as in your face as music can possibly get, with enormous bass wubs and dubstep effects swarming in and out of the mix. It’s easy to imagine this song being a headbanging anthem at festivals all summer long. Here’s what Death Weight had to say about it: “To me the song represents anxiety and loss of control. It’s like an ever growing wound. It seems you can contain the chaos, but can’t stop it.” Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 16. The term “Vanity Fair” usually refers to an ostentatious or over-the-top celebration, and after years of working on their huge 14- track album and months of teaser signals, it would likely seem it’s worth its namesake and Neonlight are ready for a celebration. Out tomorrow, May 27 on Blackout Music, Vanity Fair is itself a celebration of music, melody and sound design so the name is doubly fitting. Fans have been excited for the release of Vanity Fair since December when the first teaser track “Hero of My Youth” released. Heavy and strong in its stance as a stand-alone track, “Hero of My Youth” is one of those tracks that’s instantly recognizable by its emotive synths which, with their surging and forceful push or sound at each phrase transition, it’s another apt title for this track, as one can almost feel the chest-beating and pumping up vibes even before the bass drops. An excellent lead-in track that’s already being played everywhere. Also already out are the delightfully chunky “Kinsky,” the space epic “Triumph,” another heavy charger of a track called “Desire” and featuring Flowanastasia, and the glitchy, epic saga collab “Scarface” with label patrons Black Sun Empire. While these tracks have already covered a good cross section of the there’s still loads to discover in the rest of the album. It’s clear the Neonlight guys created Vanity Fair with a theme and a flow in mind, as there’s an overall spacey Tron vibe there and each track leads in to some other part of the journey. Said journey starts with the title track, where Neonlight introduce their audience to all the sensory and sensual synthy delights in store for them. Featuring what sound like analog drums, yet another emotive and evocative main synth line and a whole load of sound design before the beat even drops, it’s an intro to the lush world of Vanity Fair and the neuro overload fans can expect from the whole album. Beautiful, bold as brass and a true stomper all at the same time, it’s only fitting that this first track be the last premiere before the album drops, and luckily YEDM snagged it. NEONLIGHT · Neonlight – Vanity Fair Neonlight are always able to balance head-splitting neuro aggression with more melodic and emotional musical composition, and Vanity Fair is certainly a prime example of that rare skill. All the tracks on this album will be able to light up the dancefloor but also evoke passionate feelings at the same time. It seems Neonlight were ready to put out something this epic; now the question is are the fans ready for it? Vanity Fair drops tomorrow, May 27 on Blackout Music. Click here to pre-order or pre-save. 18. It’s been five years since Calvin Harris released his album Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1 with one of the most expansive collaborative lists we’ve ever seen. Despite the ‘Vol.1’ in the title, there was a point where we weren’t sure there would even be a volume 2. Thankfully, we’re getting the first single from the sequel this Friday — “Potion” with Dua Lipa and Young Thug. The track art already looks like we’re going to be revisiting the same vibes as the first single, which we’ve been missing terribly. Young Thug returns from “Heatstroke” on the first installment, while Dua Lipa makes her first Funk Wav appearance; though, the two have worked together on the 1.3bn-play hit, “One Kiss.” Check back on Friday! 19. Throwback styles, especially those that model the 80s, tend to be covered in about ten layers of irony and hipsterism when presented to the world nowadays, and it’s no wonder. The jangly synths, neon eyeshadows and Flock of Seagulls hairstyles that typified the 80s pop scene weren’t even a hundred percent serious at the time. In an era fueled by cocaine and Diet Coke, we can’t exactly blame modern artists for poking a little fun at the era that brought us Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and Van Halen’s “Jump.” That said, even the eye-rolliest of indie pop denizens can’t quit the 80s, especially when it comes to those classic early synths. Moog or Moog adjacent, full of mid-range pop cachet and causing uncontrollable nostalgic flashbacks to the mall, the world of Tron or somewhere in between, 80s pop has endured because it’s fun and there’s a lot to be done with those synths. That’s where we find Emery Pulse and her second single “Gift Box”: at the corner of synths, fun, pop and a little bit of nuance. Emery Pulse only has two tracks out thus far, with her 2018 debut single “Show Me Who You Are” a musically balladified version of Tiffany’s cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now” and definitely on the bubble gum spectrum. It was clear with “Show Me Who You Are” that Emery Pulse loves her synths and is an unabashed 80s fan, but “Gift Box,” which came out late last year, is the full 80s package. With a lyrical double meaning so strong that it’s almost graphic (“reach in, the tissue’s paper thin”? Okay, Pandora’s blushing at this point), “Gift Box” captures more than the bubble gum nostalgia of the 80s but also its cheeky sense of fun. There’s no need to be satirical of the synths from Emery’s perspective; most of the music was already a parody of itself. Meanwhile that 80s musical aesthetic is jacked up to the max in this track with even more synth layers, some poppy funk guitars and bass and – what 80s pop song could be complete without it – a rip roarin’ and somewhat out of place Richard Marx-style guitar solo by Chris Camozzi. And, starburst fade at the end…that’s a wrap. One can almost see the Michael Bolton fist grab with that outro and we bet Emery and her crew loved creating that starburst without any pretense. For those of use who grew up in the 80s and knew that a good song didn’t end without a starburst fade, the nostalgia of Emery Pulse and “Gift Box” is so real, we can smell the wood paneling in our parents’ basements as we rushed down the stairs with out 3rd bowl of latch key Corn Pops so we wouldn’t miss the next 80s rocker after the commercial on MTV (back when they actually played music videos). That’s how sincere Emery Pulse is with her 80s pop: no “indie” or “electro” tags needed here to justify. Emery Pulse thinks these sounds (and their tongue-in-cheek, not-so-subtle lyrics) can endure all on their own, thank you, and if “Gift Box” is anything to go by, she’s right. “Gift Box” is out now and can be streamed on Spotify. 21. The bass infused worlds of FIGURE and Lizzy Jane collide in their powerful new collaboration together, “Take Control” — a hotly-anticipated ID that first premiered at Lost Lands in 2021. FIGURE’s immaculate sound design matched with Lizzy Jane’s vocal prowess make for a memorable pairing that’s both soul-grabbing and chill-inducing from the very start. “Take Control” truly does just that, as we find ourselves so deeply invested within mere seconds. The track opens up with lush, hymn-like pads that soon melt into heartfelt, yet haunting lyrics before the track picks up momentum and drops into a stimulating run of metallic hits. With varying forces at play, it’s ear pleasing to hear how they all come together so seamlessly. “Take Control” dips into another theatrical moment before coming back for round two. There are times when FIGURE’s relentless, thrashing drops seem to battle Lizzy’s knockout vocals head on. For this reason, the arrangement keeps us engaged until the very end. FIGURE reveals how the collab came to be: I met Lizzy at my first show back from the Covid shutdown. Some friends and I were in the green room listening to her set and she started singing one of her tracks. Right away put “hit Lizzy Jane up for collab” in my notes. Fast forward a couple months later .. I saw the note and immediately went to my studio to start on a track that had big musical elements but also a drop that would fit in our sets. Sent her the session , she sent it back very soon after.. and BAM! This one came together very naturally. I hope you all enjoy the track! Lizzy Jane shares her perspective on the release: It was such a full circle moment to have the opportunity to work with an absolute legend who has paved the way for so many producers today. This song came together so naturally. As I definitely have a unique voice, we pulled from all different types of music for inspiration on this one and it all blended together so well. The cinematic elements and crazy sound design paired with my vocals fully brought this haunting song to life. I can’t wait to play this one during festival season this year! We’re honored to premiere “Take Control” ahead of its release tomorrow (May 24th). Listen here and link up with both artists below! 23. Just a few weeks ago we premiered Medii’s fantastic ‘Replica Red’ EP that left us only wanting more, thrilled for their highly anticipated ‘What If This Is All Real‘ LP. ‘What If This Is All Real’ pulls together the tracklist from the February (‘Binary Blue‘) and May EP and ties it together with a never-before revealed intro track and 3 stand-alone singles. With the EP’s having their own cohesive ebb and flow when it comes to the segues song to song, ‘What If This Is All Real’ LP expands on this sentiment with the full scope of the experience fleshed out in its final form. “Dying Day” kicks off the LP, infusing the soundscape in beautiful ambiance, switching the tempo halfway through as it builds into a glorious chorus of sounds and melodies. “My Mind’s Escaping” follows, picking up the pace with fluttery synths, smooth vocals, and a live drum all build on the cinematic nature. “Love Yourself” boasts an infectious synth-wave arrangement that feels like the perfect song to crank driving down the PCH at sunset. “Real” ft. Cat Cayenne plays out like a song from the soundtrack of a movie, bursting with personality and a sensational performance from Cat. “Better Place” closes out the album with a emotive dance pop sound that not only feels like a instant hit, but the perfect song to cap off this near half-year of music from Medii. 25. New York-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Frank Cogliano was best known for his film scoring and guitar work, with some pretty cool credits to his name. He worked on a number of series of Vice TV as part of their music department as well as both indie and popular films and TV series and was a featured guitar artist on the HBO Mortal Kombat movies. It’s only since December last year Cogliano decided to start releasing his solo work, and it seems that after two EDM/pop singles, he’s ready to really show the music world what he’s got with his debut album, Computers of the World. Released in February, Computers of the World is an ambitious album in a number of ways. For those who heard his first two singles or know his film work, it’s a pretty extreme departure from anything he was doing before. It also clearly took a huge amount of composition, layering and sound design to put together, and that’s not including all the styles, techniques, programs, programmers, et al. he likely used. Like all good experimental electronic artists, this organized chaos was a deliberate choice, but it wasn’t just for the science of sound. Many people are wondering why I didn’t finish the songs, or why I have so many. They are all finished ideas, though many of them are short, because I am also structuring it in a way that reflects the current state of our collective attention span, which is extremely fast and extremely short. I tried to compress as much emotion and musicality in as short a period of time that I could. It’s an interesting approach and an interesting commentary on TikTok culture and how our attention spans are, indeed, being ruined by sound byte blasts. Is Cogliano embracing it or deriding it? It’s up to interpretation, perhaps, but the idea of “unfinished” songs to cater to the modern brain and its relationship to sound is a fascinating one. All that said, amid the high concept cutoffs, chaotic sound design and literal volumes of vintage computer noises used on this album, Computers of the World is surprisingly musical. The musicality in Computers of the World seems to be where Cogliano will break from a lot of experimental producers. From intro track “Cave,” there’s a trackable timeline and a melodic quality to this album that aligns with lofi electronica and dream pop just as much as the noise functions and dissonance burned into each track. It’s Brian Eno composing music to a theme park ride that was abandoned in the 80s a’la “Downtown” or riding through an actual “Helicopter Vacuum” over EDC at sunrise. The work on Computers of the World is Aphex Twin with a bit less screaming and a lot more jazz. Frank Cogliano is one of those rare talents who can really explore high concept experimental music while still giving his work listenability. He pokes at the EDM, lofi and even rock worlds while staying true to his music science passion on this album, and that’s no easy feat. Now that he’s declared his artistic statement with Computers of the World, now the only question is where will Frank Cogliano go from here, and it’s truly anyone’s guess. Computers of the World is out now and can be streamed or purchased via multiple platforms by clicking here, including a limited edition vinyl version on Bandcamp. There are also loads more cool and trippy visualizers to check out on Cogliano’s YouTube Page. This article was first published on Your EDM.
