  1. Gian Varela, a quickly emerging DJ/producer taking over the global dance music scene. A born rebel, his unconventional yet thrilling ways of fusing sounds and genres defines his artistry. His upbringing in Panama, birthplace of reggaetón’s roots, and moving to the USA, cultivated his own sound. From viral collaborations with latin superstars like Sech, Feid and El Chombo, and releases on the world’s best dance labels such as Spinnin, Armada, Maxximize, and Revealed to festival tracks and remixes with the support of Armin Van Buuren, Gianluca Vacchi, Fedde Le Grand (to name a few), few artists pack such an energetic arsenal of records as Gian. Laidback Luke is one of the most established electronic A-list artists in all of the world, who not only has a passion for inspiring the next generation of DJ’s and producers, but is also the head honcho at MixMash records. With no formal musical agenda other than outright quality, the culmination of Mixmash Records, Mixmash Deep, and Mixmash Bold has unearthed stars, spotlighted next generation players and kept quality and creative energy at the forefront of this career highlight. Now, Laidback Luke & Gian Varela are putting the best of both their styles on a single release in “Ponme Loco,” featuring Melfi. The temptation to move is irresistible the second you hit the play button, as the track builds into an electrifying Spanish-dressed tech house banger. The vocals of Melfi ascend the experience to that next plateau, her timbre and cadence adding an edge that ensures the release sticks to the listeners it reaches with its hooks and memorable moments. Gian says, “Ponme Loco started off with the vocals as the majority of my records do. So I came up with something simple, but catchy. “Ponme Loco” means “Get Me Crazy,” – once I had a vocal idea, Melfi, with a distinguished low raspy vocal, was able to accomplish what I envisioned. From there we sent a demo to Luke & he took the record to the finish line. Definitely bringing that legendary laidback luke sound to the instrumental ending up with a Spanish/Latin House record that is sure to “get you crazy” in clubs and festivals!” Luke adds, “I met Gian Varela during this Miami Music Week and his energy and vibe works perfectly for my team and I. He came to us with a bag of demos and I felt Ponme Loco was the perfect fit for me. I think it will help a lot of people go “crazy” on the dance floors. Let’s go loco this summer!” Listen below! 4. With a genre-bending blend of bass house and the gritty edge of trap, Alex Bui, otherwise globally known as VON BUOYAGE, is championing his very own signature style that’s breaking through barriers and setting the stage for a total music revival. VON BUOYAGE’s cohesive sound is free from time, space, and constraints, and bridges the power of hard-hitting bass house with the raw attitude and tone of trap music. Endorsing the mantra of “stay buoyant,” there’s a powerful ambition behind every VON BUOYAGE track: to speak positive influence, encourage integrity and respect, and unite the masses through timeless sound. We are thrilled to premiere VON BUOYAGE’s a sizzling new single, this time teaming up with vocalist Honey-B-Sweet for “You Ain’t Close“. The energy is infectious right from the start, as VON BUOYAGE expertely crafts a rumbling tech house groove cut with high energy wubs and sharp synth stabs. Honey then takes it a step higher with empowering, chest-beating vocals, giving this the feel of becoming the next club anthem. “I’m so excited to share this song with the world. It is the perfect song to show what I’ve been working on and has come at the cusp of me discovering my sound. My favorite part of the song has to be the drop synth melody and, of course, Honey’s rapping. I think the song brings just the right amount of grit and fun energy to make a real crowd-pleaser. I’m very happy with how this one came out, and I hope the world enjoys it as much as I do!” – VON BUOYAGE Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 5. Rossy has had a banger of a year with tons of huge support slots and a slew of original releases that have everyone looking to see what she has in store next. In just a couple weeks, she’ll be making her HARD Summer debut on the main stage. And if you’ve been wondering what that’s going to sound like, you’re in luck. The latest entry in the HARD Summer Mixtape Series comes from none other than Rossy who chose to throw it back with some classic trap. She says, “HARD Summer means a lot to me; it’s one of the first festivals I ever went to. I wanted this mix to pay homage to a certain era of trap that helped inspire my production and reminds me of my early years at HARD Summer. Absolutely can’t wait to see your beautiful faces there!” Check out the mix below! Select tickets and shuttles to HARD Summer are still available. 6. Fred Again.., who’s experiencing a meteoric rise, only just put out a new song co-written with Four Tet (and Skrillex is also involved, somehow) and he’s already planning his next massive hit. Teased in his private Discord first, he’s shared the news with the rest of the world via Instagram: he’s teaming up with Swedish House Mafia for “Turn On The Lights Again” coming next week. The song samples Future’s “Turn On The Lights.” EDM.com notes this isn’t the first time the trio and young producer have worked together as he’s credited on “Calling On” from their debut album, Paradise Again. He shared a preview of the song yesterday on Instagram from a recent live show. Stay tuned for the full release soon! This article was first published on Your EDM. 7. No, not for good. But Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, aka The Chainsmokers, have signed up with fledgling space tourism company World View to perform at the edge of space, approximately 20 miles above the Earth, making them the first artists to do so, according to AP. “We have always dreamed of going to space and are stoked to collaborate with World View to have this adventure and experience,” said The Chainsmokers in a statement. “We know the views of both Earth and space are going to be incredible and inspiring and we hope to leverage this flight for creativity on future projects.” The Chainsmokers will be on the inaugural expedition slated for 2024. AP writes, “Picking The Chainsmokers for the honor was, in part, a personal decision as well as an attempt to excite a younger audience. [Ryan Hartman, CEO at World View] said he watched as his youngest son belted out lyrics from the duo’s songs and was inspired by the band’s popularity. He explained the flight to the pair over dinner.” No doubt the performance will be live streamed with some incredible views, but we’ll have to wait a couple of years to see it in action. 8. To date, only two drum & bass acts have headlined the iconic Wembley Arena in the UK: Pendulum and Andy C. The 12,500-seat facility is London’s second-largest indoor arena after The O2 Arena, and the ninth-largest in the United Kingdom, but you’ll see almost every artist who’s played there has a “(Live At Wembley)” album available to stream. Now, Hybrid Minds is poised to add their name to the list of D&B acts who have graced the venue’s marquee on October 22. With more to come, very special supporting guests will be announced closer to the date, marking a memorable night in D&B. Selling out live shows last year for Printworks in 4 hours as well as their headline Brixton Academy show six months out from the dates, the Wembley Arena show marks the perfect progression for Hybrid Minds as the first D&B act to headline the venue this year. The announcement comes following the release of their newest single, “Better Now” featuring Lily Denning, ahead of their Tides: Part 1 EP dropping the day before the show, October 21. 9. Last year, RL Grime brought his annual Halloween mix series IRL for the first time in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium. For those fortunate enough to attend, it was an unforgettable experience. For those who weren’t, you have a chance once again in an even bigger arena — the Forum. Comparing the size of the two venues, the Hollywood Palladium has space for around 3,500-4,000 people. The Forum fits upwards of 17,000 for sporting events, a little less for music events as the stage restricts seating behind. Still, the event is going to be 4-5x bigger, with bigger production, and bigger guests (probably). Presale begins Thursday. General on-sale begins Friday at 10am PT. Sign up for early access here. 10. LimeWire was one of the first big file sharing programs available to the masses, aside from Napster. Though LimeWire came out a year later, Napster was shut down in 2002 and so LimeWire existed for another 8 years before its final release was issued in October 2010. Now, the platform is relaunching as, you guessed it, an NFT marketplace. As part of the relaunch, LimeWire has announced a first of its kind partnership with legendary Ibiza clubs Ushuaïa & Hï Ibiza, giving LimeWire Original holders exclusive access to yet another series of in-person experiences. This partnership offers free club entry as well as an exclusive launch-party invite. Paul and Julian Zehetmayr, LimeWire Co-CEOs, commented: “Ushuaïa is an iconic Ibiza outdoor space and Hï has just been voted the number one club in the world. Providing our LimeWire Original holders with exclusive access during this first full season since the pandemic sets the benchmark for the types of real-life experiences we intend to unlock for our customers. This is the first of many LimeWire partnerships, which will bring NFT music experiences to life – beyond just visual art.” Yann Pissenem, CEO and founder of The Night League, which owns and operates Hï Ibiza and Ushuaïa Ibiza added: “The NFT collectible space is a market we have been wanting to enter but we were looking for the right experience to offer our guests with the right partner. The exclusive access for LimeWire Original holders ticks all the boxes – not only is LimeWire a brand that historically holds strong music ties but the upcoming artist content is unlike anything we have seen so far. ” Also, as part of this partnership, subscribers to Ushuaïa’s newsletter will receive an exclusive invite to purchase a LimeWire Original. To celebrate the partnership, a launch party has been organized in Ushuaïa with a dedicated VIP area for LimeWire Original Holders including an open bar from 7pm until 12am. If you happen to hold a LimeWire Original and also find yourself in Ibiza, this works out great for you. This article was first published on Your EDM. 11. Landing on Dancing Dead Records, Estonia’s very own Cartoon have done it again with “I’m Not Alright,” enlisting help from none other than the talented Bedwetters. Bringing together a number of different genres and styles, “I’m Not Alright” makes up for a perfect showcase of Cartoons’ colorful style. Starting off with lively production and rock-leaning vocals, “I’m Not Alright” draws listeners into a vibrant world, before exploding into a festival-ready drop that is bound to impress. “This track is a mixture of pop, indie, punk, rock, metal and psy-trance. The lyrics are about depression, trying to cope with it and the mental struggle that comes along with it. We don’t have depression anymore (thank god), but we’ve all been down in the dirt with it at one point. We’ve never written about this so openly and felt that this topic deserves a song of its own. Who knows, maybe it’ll help someone,” explain Cartoon about the song. A massively talented production, songwriting and artist trio from Estonia, Cartoon have been taking over dance music for over 7 years now. Their NCS single “On & On” has amassed more than 275 million streams just on Spotify since its release back in 2015, leading to a lot more success over the coming years. Cartoon pride themselves in combining classic drum & bass, stadium EDM and pop. This article was first published on Your EDM. 12. Last year, Zeds Dead launched their new label, Altered States, focused on exploring a diverse range of experimental electronic music. In its stead comes the label and the first album, Catching Z’s, released last year. Now, with a few artists on the label, they’re ready for an official showcase this coming weekend in Brooklyn at Superior Ingredients. 15. Anyone that’s a fan of house music knows of The Golden Pony, the brainchild of NYC’s Timothy Layn, who has delivered sensational remixes for the likes of Rudimental and Hillary Duff, along with stellar originals that all together have amassed over 50 million digital streams and even a #1 hit on Beatport. While The Golden Pony remains intact, Timothy is stepping into a brand new project titled STRAINJER. On top of the dynamic sound that he crafts as a gifted multi-instrumentalist, Layn’s true passion with STRAINJER is now being able to delve into the world of lyrics and vocal music, his main goal ever since he became a musician. “I originally moved to NYC to start a band, rather than produce straight dance music. The Golden Pony actually began as a 5 piece electro-rock band, but after some remixes went viral, I decided to pursue dance music and DJing. My true passion is with live vocal based music, and now I feel I have learned enough skills to go back to it and be globally successful.” With these skills, Layn says his “goals are to write hit rock songs that sound and feel ‘fresh’, in terms of the sounds and production used to make them.” Paired with this announcement of STRAINJER is the debut single, “Cherry’s Bent“, a lo-fi synth rock masterpiece that feels like an instant hit. Backed by sparkly synth sounds, a rumbling bass line, and glitzy guitar melodies, Layn’s vocal shines carries a certain captivating edge that seems to set apart STRAINJER’s presence in the industry. Mixed by Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac, Bloc Party), “Cherry’s Bent” is powerful debut and only leaves us excited for what’s ahead. Listen below! 17. Over the past two decades, there have been seven feature films in the Resident Evil series, as well as one limited animated television series. Today, the first major series releases on Netflix and it’s accompanied by a feature soundtrack from composer Gregory Reveret on Milan Records. Included in the soundtrack is a new collaboration from deadmau5 and Skylar Grey, “My Heart Has Teeth.” Deep and brooding, the song feels right at home in Raccoon City. Rolling Stone reports: “‘Dystopian suburbia’ is the kind of vibe I had in mind when making this song,” Deadmau5 said of the track. “It’s been pretty cool because I like that weird, corporate overtone of this entity that owns the village, if you would. I just imagine what that would be like while roughly composing the song with, of course, the vocal accouterment of Ms. Skylar Grey. She’s an amazing talent to work with, and she just nailed the lyrics.” Listen below and stream Resident Evil on Netflix today. Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. 18. If one thing is for certain, it’s that Synymata is on an undeniable trajectory. His music truly stands out from the rest, always featuring a beautiful vocal paired with unparalleled production that might make you rage and cry, both at the same time. His latest single, “Hate To Be,” is a collaboration with Medyk and no exception to what we’ve come to expect from this burgeoning young talent. Boasting hard hitting head banging tendencies mixed with Medyk’s captivating voice, it’s safe to say these two created a true timeless piece of music. “I’ve really been loving the music Lost In Dreams has been putting out. It’s been a goal of mine all year to release with them, and I’m glad to say I finally get to. I couldn’t do it alone, Medyk really helped carry her raw talent with this one. The rise of EDM in America, specifically the stadium sized progressive house sounds of Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, and Tiesto had an enormous impact on artists all over the world, one of them being LA -based artist, Chris Costello. Today, he makes his debut with an electrifying EP, ‘We Could Be Together‘. Touching on these earlier influences, Costello beautifully blends pop vocals with euphoric arrangements. You can’t go wrong with any song on this EP, but our favorite has to be the opening track, “Out Of Time,” a song truly feels like it belongs on Ultra’s main stage. 23. It’s been a little over a year now since Porter Robinson released his second album, Nurture. He’s had the opportunity to tour the album and perform across the world doing what he does best. Based on previous patterns of release from Porter, we weren’t really expecting any new music for another year or two at least, but when Riot approached him to create music for Star Guardian, something must have clicked. Verge wrote in their interview with Porter for the new release: Like many of us, Porter Robinson turned to video games during the pandemic. In particular, the musician got really into League of Legends. He remembers getting his first kill and thinking, “Oh, I get it. I get why people play this. I get why people love it.” It became a hangout for his group of friends during a particularly challenging period, a space where everyone would get together in the evenings to play. But it wasn’t until League developer Riot released the animated series Arcane on Netflix that Robinson truly got sucked into the fantasy universe. “I was like, ‘I want to be involved in their world,’” he tells The Verge. There’s a lot more to the interview that provides context to the song and Porter Robinson’s obsession with League of Legends during the pandemic, which you should read if you have the time. For now, watch the music video for “Everything Goes On” and scroll further down as Porter explains the line, “someday I’ll be overcast, but you won’t have to cry – cause we’ll do the grieving while I’m by your side.” when i wrote “don’t look for me, i’m just a story you’ve been told”, that was when the song clicked for me when riot first hit me up, i wasnt sure if i could make something that would work, but when i wrote that melody i got extremely hyped and was like “i 10000% finishing this” — porter robinson (@porterrobinson) July 14, 2022 because you can’t really “pre-grieve” anything. it’s a shallow comfort, it kinda magnifies the pain in a way was moving to me. i embraced that perspective a lot on this song — someone who’s in pain and is saying things they don’t mean, or can’t follow through on — porter robinson (@porterrobinson) July 14, 2022 it reframes the chorus by saying: “i told you to forget me, but you stayed by my side, when i said – ‘don’t try to make yourself remember etc etc’ —“ it put the last chorus in quotation marks, as something the narrator once said, and is now apologizing for. — porter robinson (@porterrobinson) July 14, 2022 basically saying: “thanks for staying with me, even i told you to forget all about me.” — porter robinson (@porterrobinson) July 14, 2022 Listen below.
