Meditation or Music? The Muse Frequency Explore Both With New Album, ‘Diary of An Artist In Love’
Meditation music tends to be what it says on the tin: music, or sometimes even just tones, designed to put the listener into a meditative state. This is achieved by various means: binaural beats, solfeggio tones and spoken guided meditations are popular formats on YouTube and other platforms nowadays, but as such an open format, this most ambient of the ambient forms of electronica is, by its nature, also the most open to the creative ideas of the sound artists creating them. They don’t have to be neutral or have a specific meditative journey, or, on the flip side, they can be even more specific than the average guided meditation. At this crossroads of open and specific, meditation and music and spoken word, is where the new sound design project The Muse Frequency has set up camp. Using all the techniques described above with an extra, ultra-intimate twist, their new album Diary of an Artist In Love creates a new aim for meditation music: getting personal. Inspired by the diaries of famous erotica writer Anaïs Nin, each track on Diary of an Artist In Love tells an intimate story and gives the listener focus for their journey through love and self-expression. It’s done in a way, however, that’s not only meditative but visceral. The breath patterns, the words and the pictures pained by them are much more warm and engaged than the average guided meditation. The speaker addresses the listener directly with instructions and then seemingly reacts to the visualization the listener is having so it’s interactive as well as meditative. The five purely interactive pieces are spliced with five tracks called “Love Is,” which are more musings on or poetic definitions of the form of love. The tracks move seamlessly between one another, creating a flow of thought and action that can be listened to all at once in one big meditation, but each active track is also its own vignette experience and can be used to focus on one aspect of love or paired with one of the definitive tracks. There are, in fact, seemingly endless ways to listen to and experience this album, all of which lead to a new opening to and experience of love. The music, as one might expect, is in the very ambient end of the beatless meditative world. “Beatless” is a relative term, however, as it’s only beatless as compared to EDM or pop tracks. Like many meditative music sampling of the last two or three decades, the music of Diary of an Artist In Love contains binaural beats, a type of pulse frequency meant to balance the hemispheres of the brain by having offset tones go into each ear. Binaural beats are only scientifically effective whilst listening on earbuds of headphones, but it’s not just new age hoodoo: countless scientific studies have been published on the efficacy of binaural beats in healing brain trauma and lessening the effects of cognition issues, ADHD, bipolar disorder and more. Quite often, binaural beats are also paired with solfeggio tones, which are certain frequencies meant to stimulate different nerves and meridians of the body for nervous system healing. The science is not as strong on solfeggio tones, but frequencies like 528, 432 and 963Hz well-known in music and considered among the most beautiful and uplifting tones. The Muse Frequency also uses a healthy dose of solfeggio in their work on Diary of an Artist In Love, so the uplifting effects can be heard and felt on a deeper level. With the sells of music complimenting the intimate vocals, there’s really no way the listener won’t be swept away into this loving world of this Diary. If you’ve ever read Anaïs Nin, it’s clear that The Muse Frequency’s intent was for the listener to be completely immersed in these scenes, but with the bonus effect of calming, healing and hopefully getting to a better place in understanding one’s own journey in love. This is really novel approach in the meditation world but one that is visceral and could promote deep healing and self-discovery. Aside from that, it’s a dreamy, beautifully produced art piece that any ambient musician or spoken word poet should be proud of. Diary of an Artist In Love is, unlike many other meditation music offerings, so much more than what it says on the tin. Diary of an Artist In Love is out now and can be streamed on Spotify. A number of the tracks from the album can also be found on The Muse Frequency’s YouTube page with stunning visualizer videos. This article was first published on Your EDM. ByteDance launches Ripple, a hum-powered AI song generator
Photo Credit: Ascannio/Shutterstock TikTok users can now look forward to a new product from the company that brought the world the highly addictive video-sharing social media platform. With a simple hum, users can generate entire songs using the new Ripple app. It is worth noting that the app is still in its beta testing phase, but for those who have access, Ripple offers a world of untapped creativity. Ripple is unique in that it allows musicians who don’t possess the skill to play an instrument to generate instrumentation at a moment’s notice. Then, they can use the app’s built-in editing feature to cut and shift parts into an arrangement of their choosing, much like audio workstations FL Studio and Ableton are capable of. Only, with Ripple, the process appears to be more mobile-compatible. “Ripple is designed to inspire musical creativity and help musicians, artists and composers express themselves,” said a ByteDance representative. “We’re excited to see how creators use Ripple to tap into their creativity to soundtrack their own short-form videos.” Is Ripple the future of digital audio workstations? Who knows. But we do know that it is only a matter of time before TikTok floods with hum-generated music, being that the new app links directly to its sister platform, enabling a seamless segway from music creation to music publication!

EVAN GIIA and Nostalgix Team Up for Underground Inspired Single “LIMIT”
Two of dance music’s most badass ladies, EVAN GIIA and Nostaligix, have teamed up for a rave-ready banger, “LIMIT.” Accompanied by a music video featuring the two artists performing in some type of a warehouse. The aesthetic of the space they’re in, as well as the repeating synth keys evoke old school underground rave vibes. The video itself is grainy and not in HD, bringing back memories of old grunge videos on MTV back in the day. Fun fact, EVAN GIIA is a classically trained opera singer…no wonder her vocals are so affecting. “I was excited to write a song that uses my operatic sound on the pre chorus and then drop into something heavy,” EVAN GIIA says. “‘LIMIT’ is my first collab with a female producer (a goal I’ve had for years!) You can feel the confidence and power in it. The message: you can do anything you set your mind to. There are no limits. We had a vision of female warriors going to battle while we wrote it.” “I was stoked to get into the studio with EVAN GIIA, I think she’s such a talented artist and I love what she’s about,” Nostalgix adds. “We found time to get into a session together in between our tours and started talking about everything we were dealing with at the time. We were both in a period of our lives where we had to really show up for ourselves and be our own superheroes. So we started writing about it and the record came together flawlessly. This record is very special to me. ‘LIMIT’ is about taking your power and going after what you want no matter the limits.” Check out the video for EVAN GIIA & Nostalgix’s latest track “LIMIT.” Upcoming tour dates for each artist are below as well. Hardwell Teams Up With Azteck for Vibey New Single “Anybody Out There”
Hardwell is back with his latest single, “Anybody Out There” along with Azteck and featuring Alex Hepburn on vocals. “Anybody Out There” sees Hardwell take his new techno-driven direction and go in about as pop of a direction as you can with the music. The beat and vibe of “Anybody Out There” has a decidedly old school feel, with the thick bassline and floaty breaks synths. “Anybody Out There” is sure to delight Hardwell’s fans who love his new style and it’s and undeniable groove. Here’s what the Dutch legend had to say about the track. “Although my new sound is much harder-edged and tech-ier, I still love the beauty of vocal-based electronic music. Every genre, from house music and trance to electro and techno, has given the dancefloor magical moments through big vocal tracks. That feeling a big vocal song has on a festival crowd is hard to describe, but when that moment comes, it’s intoxicating. Azteck and I have known each other for a while, having previously worked together on music. As his recent run of form proves, he’s a great producer with a fantastic ear for a topline. So, I knew a big vocal collab with Azteck would be a fire release for the summer. But the track needed a specific type of voice to make it work, and the unique raspy quality of Alex’s voice made her the perfect fit for the distorted topline on ‘Anybody Out There’. This track is special to me because I’d been longing to repurpose my new style into a vocal-driven anthem that blended other elements of my sound to create a sort of hybrid track. It needed the right emotion in the track, the right chords, and perfect balance in arrangement to fit the current sound.” Check out the latest from Hardwell and Azteck, “Anybody Out There” featuring Alex Hepburn, out now on Revealed. Vandelor Drops Beautiful Two Track EP ‘Rechka & Siren’ via Where The Heart Is Records
Since his arrival on the scene in 2020, Vandelor has meticulously carved a niche in the global music industry with celebrated releases on renowned labels such as All Day I Dream, Ruvenzori, and Souksonic. Now, he’s back with a beautiful two track EP titled ‘Rechka & Siren’ signed to none other than David Hohme’s Where The Heart Is records. It’s a fusion of melodic and organic house at its finest. “Rechka“, a collaboration with Gaba, offers ethereal melodies backed by a thumping beat and heartwarming piano arrangement. “Sirin” offers a euphoric yet tranquil journey into the deeper soundscapes of house, as Vandelor and Schmidt masterfully weave ambient vocal chants within soft and delicate synth chords. We had the opportunity to chat with Vandelor about the EP and what’s ahead for 2023. Enjoy! You collaborated with two fellow producers on this EP. How did you meet each of them and what did you learn about producing while working with them? They reached out to me with “ Musical Interest projects “ to discuss. Since then we’ve been in touch discussing projects with similar goals. And I learned sometimes it is better to work on a team and share ideas. What emotional message were you trying to convey in this release? What do you want the listeners to take away from the music? I was trying to convey happiness, the joyful feeling of being complete with myself and the Universe. All iIcan hope is the listeners takeaway those same feelings of joy when they hear this piece and want to share the feeling and music with their friends and communities. Which qualities in a label do you prioritize? What about David Hohme’s Where The Heart Is Records made you know they were going to be a good home for this release? I’m always going to want to release music on the labels where I feel my music fits. Alluring art by labels can sometime have the power to evoke emotion which appeals to my creative side. I enjoy working with labels that are passionate about their art representing the releases. First time I sent music to David Hohme’s label was in 2021 and i’ve been following the label since then. They didn’t accept my music at that time. But hey! Here I am releasing a full EP two years later. Love the label name, artworks and catalogue. Why do you produce music? What do you love most about the creative process? Well, making music is very therapeutic for my soul and hope that my tracks reach and inspire others. What is next for you and your artist project? Any other cool updates or gigs in the pipeline? I have some upcoming remixes in different labels, there is also a big collab on the way with somebody closely affiliated with WTHI (but that’s all I can say for right now). I’m still trying to find home for some other original tracks too. As a DJ, I started to get some local dates this year here in Perú. I’m trying to push an almost non-existent electronic scene and audience since it is a lesser known genre here. This article was first published on Your EDM. New Classic: Les Techno Channels Bowie, Love & Rockets in ‘Does It Make You Feel Good’
Anyone who’s a fan of Bauhaus, their follow-up project Love & Rockets, David Bowie, Iggy Pop or, more recently, Edwyn Collins should know the reclusive yet well-respected post punk artist known as Les Techno. Lauded for years in the New York music scene for his witty, satirical lyrics and smooth guitar work that rivals the great Robert Fripp, Techno also loves working with synths and production, making his work popular not only in the post punk world but in the increasingly less niche EDM/experimental electronica crossover world. His newest single, “Make You Feel Good” is perfect example of why Les Techno is so respected, and it also happens to be a chill, low key, lofi bop. If his discography is anything to go by, it’s actually been a minute since Les Techno released one of his tongue-in-cheek, punky tracks. The last one, “The Modern Twist,” released in late 2021 and was more rock forward, with a sort of rockabilly kick to Techno’s guitar work that made it extremely catchy, although not quite enough electronica for YEDM. Sometimes Les Techno’s stuff has more techno, sometimes it has less (cue trombone going “wah wah”), but it’s always fun and interesting, both in style and in substance. Techno can vacillate from 80s-style, synth-driven work like late-era Chris Rea to junkyard country a’la Tom Waits within the same song whilst showcasing his gift for ambient, oftentimes shoegazey guitar work. The style points are certainly there with Les Techno, but he’s also known for his biting wit within his lyrics. His post-apocalyptic, sometimes desolate music is meant to compliment and drive home the point of each song, so even if you’re not listening to the vocals, the music will give audiences the eerie tone of dystopia, whether they’re looking for it or not. Often full of social commentary and warnings about what our actions now may cost us in the future. “Make You Feel Good” starts out with a classic Waits-esque story of boy meets girl but quickly turns into a comment on the American dream and the unexamined life; the title and lyric pose a question about whether the house, car and 2.5 kids is what most people actually want or if it’s just an antiquated marketing gimmick. As society is rapidly changing and people are questioning their lifestyle choices more and more, it seems like a good message to release right now. With no judgement and some gorgeous, pre-wall of sound guitar work a’la Bowie’s Heroes era, Techno gives listeners the option to decide how this track – and their dreams for the future – make them feel. After recording tracks with the likes of Run DMC and Mob Deep, Les Techno’s solo work seems to be less about what others’ dreams are and more about the type of music he wants to release. It stands to reason that he would release tracks that encourage others to make sure they’re not following someone else’s path. The fact that he’s able to do it in cool, dreamy, lofi swathes of music allows for even more contemplation. Here’s hoping “Make You Feel Good” makes its listeners feel good in looking forward to more new tracks from this post punk prodigy. “Make You Feel Good” is out now and can be streamed on Spotify.
