  2. Slowly wrapping up the most explosive year in his career to date, afro house pioneer Jalal Ramdani has taken it upon himself to bring this exciting sound to stages across the world. Throughout this past summer, the Moroccan-raised and UK-based producer was booked to perform at some of the most sought-after clubbing locations worldwide, among them Miami, Tulum, Ibiza, Saint-Tropez, Mykonos, and many more. On top of this impressive touring schedule, he is currently gearing up for his performance at Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, on December 30th, as well as January 18 at The BPM Festival in Costa Rica. This will additionally coincide with an upcoming tour throughout Latin America. For Jalal Ramdani, every day seems to bring in yet another milestone. Deciding to pursue music in late 2019 after being an algorithmic trader for many years, Jalal Ramdani has managed to bring together his African heritage with his love of house music, and sign his tunes to all the biggest afro house labels in the world, among them Moblack Records, Abracadabra and Madoras, all in a little over a year. His breakout hit came in the form of “Sesa” this summer; a smooth house gem that combines tribal percussion and cinematic vocal lines, in collaboration with Team Distant, Mr Silk and Mel D. The tune quickly gathered praise from the likes of Black Coffee, Adam Port, Rampa and &ME, and is currently being remixed by one of the scene’s legends, as well as Black Coffee’s protégée. Jalal Ramdani’s impressive journey however is only getting started. When he was invited on an exclusive interview with Moroccan TV channel 2mtv, he talked about how this fast transition from trading to music allowed him to align his scientific mind with his artistic mind, and be in a position to make giant leaps in the span of just a few months. Some of his 2022 plans include the launch of his own music label, as well as the creation of a DJ agency that will nurture talented young DJs, and provide them with the best opportunities in order to shine. Jalal Ramdani’s work ethic is nothing short of impressive, and we’ll definitely be anticipating his latest projects. In the meantime, we’ll be vibing to his recent cover of Babylone’s “Zina,” one of the most beloved songs in Africa. This article was first published on Your EDM. 3. Closing in at two years since he started his impressive run of exciting and consistent single releases, GunFight is at the highest point in his career and by the looks of it, he’s only getting started. Throughout 2021 he has shared an impressive 9 singles, dabbling in a multitude of bass music genres, from melodic trap to explosive dubstep. His brand new single “Smoke Signal” follows his dark disco gem “Midnight Arcade,” which was released just in time for Halloween, and marks his return to drum & bass for the first time this year. Spanning over more than 5 minutes in runtime, “Smoke Signal” follows an immersive arrangement filled with gritty bass stabs and ruthless drums, while effortlessly transitioning from high-energy drops to atmospheric buildups. 4. Following up his first release on G Mafia, “Level Up,” Thomas Xavier is dropping his 2nd track signed to the label and his last release of the year. What could be considered his hardest, most dynamic house track to date, “Takin’ Flight,” shows Xavier building in sounds that go beyond what he’s done previously, featuring a small trap break, intense masuline vocals, and an overall dynamic flow that symbolizes his development as a constantly improving artist. The solo DJ/producer has released a whopping 9 tracks across 2 EPs, 3 singles, and 4 labels, all since early summer of this year. Between a sharp increase in bookings nation-wide, approaching the 1 million mark collectively between all originals, and a music catalog set to expand in 2022, Thomas Xavier is gaining traction in all the right areas as much as he’s turning industry heads. Well over 450,000 streams across Spotify and SoundCloud, Thomas Xavier has built up a thick catalog of club-ready, distinctive house songs that give strong definition to his creative direction in 2021. Having only started in May of 2021, the amount of ground the solo DJ/producer has broken in a small amount of time is nothing short of amazing. Mid-summer of 2021,Thomas Xavier, real name Thomas Guerin, has played Electric Island Festival and a plethora of shows which have had him traveling interstate nearly week-to-week. Opening for names like Claude Von Stroke, Boys Noize, BIJOU, Dom Dolla, Black a.m., Masteria, Destructo, and Tombz, via performing at venues in Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Antioch, and several other locations. EPs, Pussy On A Pedestal EP released on iamrecords and Go To Church EP release on imprint User Friendly, were Thomas Xavier’s most ambitious projects of the year, both masterfully perfecting the art of G-House in a way which will stand the test of time. Thomas Xavier will have more to come in 2022, closing out 2021 properly with the last of a hefty bunch of songs. This article was first published on Your EDM. 6. It’s a little strange that, after having worked in this industry for seven years (almost eight), I haven’t once been to Holy Ship! before this year. As such, especially with such a storied event, it could be difficult to properly describe the atmosphere and exhilaration of such an event without the wealth of prior context that so many attendees rediscover year after year. That being said, my very first Holy Ship! Wrecked was 100% an experience to remember. When I arrived at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya in Cancun, after checking into our room and getting our wrist bands, we immediately strolled over to Marc Rebillet on the main stage perhaps 300 feet away. It’s not particularly uncommon for a stage to be so close to the entrance at a festival, but of course with a resort festival, your cozy room isn’t that far away either. Neither is anyone else’s room, some of which surround the stages. Neither are a bevy of drink and food options, nor the beautiful ocean. That fact doesn’t really hit you until you arrive when you take it all in, and the feeling is closest to relief — and then the realization that you’re going to have a fantastic weekend. The Hard Rock Riviera Maya is a large resort, but nothing is ever more than a 5-10 minute walk away. In the mornings, we walked a couple of minutes to the nearby Toro restaurant where we picked up a selection of brunch items and some coffee, and of course a mimosa, before heading to the beach stage pretty much just outside. Plenty of servers walk by asking if you need any drinks, and the music is lively and loud so you never have to leave your seat if you don’t want to. Which is why we stayed on our beach chairs a good five hours on Saturday listening to Miane, Cloonee, Rebuke, and Chris Lake. Apart from the music and atmosphere, Holy Ship! Wrecked offered plenty of activities to attendees, our favorite of which was the Loop Daddy Brunch Cook Off with Marc Rebillet on Sunday. On our final night, we decided to stop messing around with the buffet-style dining and get a real meal at Le Petit Cochon, just next to the Sunrise Stage. Some beet tartare, an endive salad, and duck with celery puree with seasonal fruits was the perfect final meal for a brilliant event. As far as particular sets, Alison Wonderland, Madeon, Deathpact, the Desert Hearts Crew, Ben Böhmer, and certainly Marc Rebillet were fantastic. And a special notice has to be paid to CharlestheFirst’s main stage set on Sunday. It was brooding, beautiful, and somber which served as a wonderful contrast with many other acts at the event. Charles sadly passed away yesterday, and we’re honored to have heard one of, if not his final set. Holy Ship! Wrecked will return in 2022. This article was first published on Your EDM. 7. One of the most exciting producers in the scene right now is Deadman. This talented artist is coming straight out of Nashville with an ability to seamlessly blend genres in a creative and captivating fashion. Not only has he carved out an iconic, heavy hitting sound, but he also embodies a pirate aesthetic that only makes you want in on being what he calls his fans: a “pirate”. With over 1 million views of his viral remixes of Disney songs on TikTok, Deadman has also released a string of electrifying tracks including “Hands up“, “Jolly Roger“, and “The Shallows“. Now, he’s back with his very first single of the year that is an absolute monster of a track, titled “DAWN“. The song kicks off with bright, sparkly synths that set a beautiful ambiance as a vocal chop weaves its way in, building anticipation for what turns out to be a thundering, bass rattling drop. He keeps you on your toes, effortlessly introducing a subsequent drop that switches things up and goes full on Drum & Bass. Deadman’s ear for sound design is flawless. His sounds and skills with arrangement are top notch, solidifying this track as an anthem you’d expect to hear at main stage EDC. Here’s what Deadman had to say about “DAWN“: “‘DAWN’ is an energetic / joyful song that represents the hope you feel when the sun rises and a new day begins. With it’s lush melodies and heavy basslines, ‘DAWN’ transcends genres and sets the tone for a new era of Deadman. Lots of fresh music coming in 2022, ‘DAWN ‘is just a taste!” Listen to “DAWN” by Deadman below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Deadman Drops Thunderous New Single “DAWN”
  8. Tap into the riddim. Infekt returns to Disciple Records with “Money Dance” – a standout track on the label’s Alliance Vol. 7 compilation. The track reels you in with a mischievous hook of distorted instrumentals and seamlessly builds up into an eruptive drop that will have your head banging against the rails. “Monkey Dance” comes as part of the release of Alliance Vol. 7, which includes tracks from the likes of Virtual Riot, Barely Alive, Ray Volpe, Bandlez and other Disciple family favorites. 9. It has been revealed that CharlestheFirst, real name Charles Elias Ingalls, a quickly rising and prominent bass producer in the underground, passed away this morning. Charles could often be found along with contemporaries like Chee, Of The Trees, and Tsuruda. He had built a strong and loyal following of fans and was slated for an even bigger 2022 with projects on the way. He was 25. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family during this difficult time. 10. Oliver Heldens is back with another massive single, “Deja Vu,” and this time he’s enlisted his biggest vocal collaborator to date, Anabel Englund. Combining Oliver’s trademark production and basslines with Anabel’s seductive and powerful vocals, “Deja Vu” is a perfect track to play on the dancefloor, or riding with the top down into the sunset. Amsterdam meets Los Angeles as Oliver holds it down with a steady bassline that easily flows into disco vibes with hi-hats and hand claps. All the while, Anabel’s siren-like vocal brings the listener into a bright and vibey experience. Oliver could have easily taken this beat and turned it into a club/festival track, but this is a brilliant direction making the track more radio-friendly. This is a highly accessible track. Here’s what Oliver and Anabel had to say about making “Deja Vu.” “When I first started working on this track in early 2019 I tried a couple of things for the vocals with different singers and songwriters, which were good, but I knew it could be better and more special. I’ve been a fan of Anabel’s music since 2013, and even more so during this pandemic hearing all of her new music, I knew she could be perfect for this track, so I sent the instrumental to her and luckily she was really into it and she came back with an amazing topline idea for the track. We then met up in LA to finalize the song and recorded some extra hooky melodies, and after that, we were both even more convinced about this record, so we moved around some things in our release schedules to make this song our top priority because we think the world needs to hear it! Enjoy!” – OH “Working with Oliver has been so effortless and fun. This song happened so beautifully and I can’t wait to share it with the world.” – AE Check out the latest from Oliver Heldens & Anabel Englund, “Deja Vu” out now on OH2 Records. 11. Blinders, one of STMPD Rcrds favorite artists, is back with a hot new track, “Pressure (Wanna Feel Good).” The Polish DJ/Producer continues to make catchy and innovative new tunes that work in either the club or festival setting. “Pressure (Wanna Feel Good)” is no exception with it’s underground vocal sample, warehouse ready synth work, and an unbelievable drop that will have you dancing the night away. Not content with just producing a banger of a song, Blinders also animated the accompanying music video. The video features an animated female protagonist running to escape. What exactly, we don’t know. There are some terrifying white faces with red lights for eyes that haunt the protagonist as she makes her escape. During the second run through, our heroine’s escape gets even more harrowing with more obstacles and the odds stacked against her. It’s definitely a worthwhile listen and watch. 12. Like a fine wine, Danish DJ/producer MORTEN has gotten better with age. While, he’s recently exploded in popularity and exposure thanks to his Future Rave collaborations with David Guetta, MORTEN has actually been hard at work in the dance music scene for more than a decade. He first made waves in his native Denmark in the late aughts before breaking through to an American audience with tracks with Steve Aoki, Borgeous and others in the mid 2010s. We got the chance to speak with MORTEN about how he started out in the industry, the success of Future Rave, what he did during quarantine and his upcoming MDLBEAST performance. Check out our exclusive interview. Hey Morten, thanks for chatting with us. You’ve been in the music industry for quite a long time. Tell us how you originally got started making music and got to where you are today? “I started making music in a basement with this dope guy from Denmark, we made some records and a few years later we started a culture in Denmark and got gold certifications. Every DJ was playing the records we made, which led us to producing music together for 10 years. In the beginning, the process of making music was very raw and honest. For example, we would accidentally create something we liked, and put a kick under it, and it was a wrap. Nowadays it’s a different process. Today I produce with a plan and the intention to create an emotion and to reach a certain energy level.” Over the past couple of years, you’ve gotten exposed to a much wider audience thanks to your Future Rave collab with David Guetta. Tell us how you guys came up with the idea to collaborate and maybe tell us about your friendship with David? “In early 2019 I played David some very per rough ideas, and we finished them together, and that’s how Future Rave started. We were friends before that, but of course now that we work so much together we also spend more time with each other.” What was it like during the whole pandemic and lockdown for you? How does it feel to be back out on the road too? “It was extreme, it still is, but looking back I was very productive. Many used it to take a break, I chose to make a lot of music and started doing a lot of live streams. So lockdown for me was relatively good because I kept myself busy.” Having been doing this for such a long time, how do you think you’ve grown as a producer? Do you view things a little differently now that you’re a little older & wiser? “Yes, 100 procent. I would say the most important thing is that I got to be my own biggest critic, that’s crucial when producing music.” You are set to perform at MDLBEAST’s Soundstorm show in December. How excited are you to perform at this spectacle, given it is estimated to be one of the biggest festivals in the Middle East to date? “I’m so so excited, I really am!! I’m even working on a special record for that show only! I love the Middle East, it feels like my second home!” I’m guessing we can expect more Future Rave stuff going forward. You guys show no signs of slowing down. What else can we expect from you and how do you plan to keep the Morten brand separate from Future Rave? “Right now my focus is on Future Rave, and I’m having too much fun with it to think of anything else.” Any words or advice for the fans? “I’d say the most important thing is to put the music you really love out there. That’s why David and I created Future Rave, because we were missing a specific sound. Creating something you love yourself and really believe in allows you to achieve great things. Thank you very much for having me!” Check out the latest Future Rave single from David Guetta and Morten with Roland Clark, “Alive Again,” out now on Musical Freedom. 13. Released today on Universal Music Germany is the brand new record ‘Look What You Have Done,’ straight from the creative minds of Stefy De Cicco and N.F.I. De Cicco has had a slew of successful singles on the label including the most recent ‘I Like’ with Axel Black and White. Its a blend of infectious pops of melody and a chunky dose of bassline energy – reaching a fresh peak with every drop into the chorus. De Cicco reveals: “It was awesome working on the production with N.F.I because we were able to truly complement each other. 14. Just in time for the end of the year, Martin Garrix is back with a treat to kick off the Holiday Season with a bang, releasing his long-awaited collaboration with Matisse & Sadko and John Martin, “Won’t Let You Go.” Played as the opening track of his first sets after the pandemic, including Electric Love and Creamfields, the track quickly became a fan favorite. Proven to be a golden combination before, Garrix is teaming up with both Matisse & Sadko and John Martin again. Garrix already worked with Matisse & Sadko on classics such as “Together,” “Hold On” and “Forever,” while John Martin joined him on “Higher Ground” and “Now That I’ve Found You.” Combining the best of all worlds, Garrix and Matisse & Sadko’s production signatures perfectly blend with John Martin’s heartfelt vocals while the lyrics talk about not ever letting go of the one you love the most. The euphoric hook gives “Won’t Let You Go” a massive festival feel which is exactly where it deserves to be played. 16. When it comes to D&B, it’s always great when artists strike that perfect balance between old school and modern, amens and crunchy neuro synths, classic and innovative. Spain-based Kursiva has made a name for himself by walking that none-too-tricky line, developing more and more ways to push the technical envelope in D&B whilst never forgetting its dub, hardcore and ragga roots. His new tune, the aptly named “Big Tune” due out on Bad Taste Recordings tomorrow, once again continues that well-balanced compositional storyline. So named because of the vox samples from live MC performances shouting “you wanna hear some big tunes, say yes” among other classic MC catch phrases, “Big Tune” opens and breaks with another throwback style: darkstep. You can almost hear the vinyl wobble in the intro tones, the kind that almost always opened a dark or deep track back in the mid-to-late 90s. Said intro picks up the MC/show samples before dropping into a chunky, scrambled egg of a beat with complex, early techstep-style syncopation. Said beat has a modern feel because of said syncopation, but it’s as classic as they come. The track is ornamented with amens at the phrase transitions while an expertly crafted and equally crunchy bass synth is the main melody, for lack of a better phrase, that pushes the track forward. Also hearkening back to techstep and early neuro, this synth also wouldn’t be out of place on any modern stage. Kursiva’s sort of brought production full circle with this “Big Tune,” successfully showing fans of all ages how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Bad Taste Recordings · Kursiva – Big Tune It would be interesting to take a tour of Kursiva’s studio and see how much production he does on modern software and gadgets and what sort of vintage gems or analog-built mods he’s working with. A true genre-melder by nature, Kursiva proves once again with “Big Tune” that as long as a track slaps, it’ll keep the fans coming back. “Big Tune” drops tomorrow on Bad Taste Recordings on Beatport and Spotify. Hit up Bad Taste’s website to pre-order for any other platforms for the December 24 world wide drop. This article was first published on Your EDM. 17. On April 6, 2022 the Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) will be ceremoniously opened in Frankfurt. Located directly in the heart of the main city at the Hauptwache, the museum will present the exhibition “Sven Väth – It’s simple to tell what saved us from hell”; a collaboration between close friends Sven Väth and Tobias Rehberger. MOMEM director Alex Azary says “There is no better opening exhibition for MOMEM, because Sven Väth and Tobias Rehberger have each, in their own way, taken electronic music culture from Frankfurt to the world.” Together, DJ and electronic art producer Väth and visual artist Rehberger are now curating MOMEM’s opening exhibition, in which they will jointly explore Sven Väth’s private archive. The records, photographs, flyers, films, sounds, and Väth’s private art collection form the centre and starting point of this journey into the shared past of electronic music culture since the late 1980s. A very personal view of this most important piece of cultural history emerges, in which electronic music culture formed socially in a few European cities such as Berlin, London, Manchester and, of course, Frankfurt am Main, and from there began its triumphal march around the world. “We are very much looking forward to working together on this exhibition and are ourselves excited to see where this joint journey will take us”, Sven Väth and Tobias Rehberger show themselves joyfully motivated. The opening of the MOMEM, which is dedicated to the documentation, processing and switching of this cultural history of electronic music, will be celebrated naturally with a large public party with Sven Väth on April 8, 2022. 19. Gustavo Bravetti’s incredibly popular take on the theme music to the gripping film Babel has just been released via Virgin Germany. It has proved an instant hit since the musician, magician and producer started playing it in live sets and it prompted an unofficial upload that has gone viral across YouTube and TikTok channels. Now ‘Babel’ is up for grabs as a full single and is ready to properly soak up. There is serious musicality on show here and Bravetti re-recorded the original sample with his own instrumentation. Speaking on the tune’s inspiration, he says: “The core idea for the track came up while watching the movie Babel for the second time. The melody is on the ending credits, which I missed the first time I saw it. I immediately fell In love with its melancholic foreign flavors and wanted to contrast it with a deep-visceral bass. The result went beyond expectations.” Stream ‘Babel’ now. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Gustavo Bravetti – Babel

  22. Electric Forest is back next year! Officially. The annual Michigan event counted itself among the festivals that weren’t able to return this year, after already having their 2020 event slashed due to the then-novel pandemic. It was a particularly crushing blow after already losing so many other festivals that year, to then not have it when others like Ubbi Dubbi, EDC, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, and more were returning. But all of that changes when it comes back next June 23-26. Yesterday saw the official lineup reveal, which offered a ton of incredible acts to see. However, many who were on the original 2019 lineup did not have their booking restored EF’s return. Bassnectar getting pulled off the headliners is an obvious result, one no one should be surprised about. Flume, unfortunately, is another casualty of perhaps album mode as his name is now also absent. Diplo, Petit Biscuit, Lindsey Stirling, Gryffin, Tchami, Boys Noize, and more are also missing. So, too, are Noisia and G Jones. One artist of note not seen on next year’s lineup is 12th Planet, who was recently a focus of a sexual assault accusation from 2018. Whether his name being absent is related or if it stems from the same reasons as any of the aforementioned is obviously not clear. 23. Apollo XO is an artist consistently on an upwards trajectory. His resume is impressive, as he has performed with some of the biggest artists around like Drake, Rae Sremmurd and Wiz Khalifa and has even played star studded celebrity birthday parties for the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio & Toby Mcguire. We featured his previous tune “I’ll Be There” in October and since then he’s showed no signs of slowing down. Now, he’s back with a explosive tech house tune, “MetaMore“, this time teaming up with talented producer Tanner Dixon for what’s another club smash. “MetaMora” is mesmerizing, drizzled with components of acid house, deep house, and trance, all working off of the tech house platform that holds the structure together. The end result is an underground themed banger that we can imagine would rock clubs all around the world. Listen to “MetaMora” below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 24. BADVOID has had one hell of a year. In 2021, this rising producer has been shocking the music industry one bass-fueled beat a time. From his electrifying remix of WE ARE FURY’s “Remember” to resurrecting the bass scene with his hypnotizing collaboration with ZABO on “ASYLUM,” BADVOID naturally weaves his way through levels of both chill-tempo and bass-induced madness to lure his listeners into his world of pure experimentation. Now, he’s back with a gritty, electrifying remix to BIJOU’s “Rockstar” featuring Tony Watts. It’s one of a kind, featuring an absolutely massive bass-fueled drop that is jaw-dropping. The arrangement is flawless, a testament to BADVOID’s skill in the studio and ear for sounds to keep you on the edge of your seat. Listen to BADVOID’s remix of “Rockstar” below! 25. It’s clear there’s a lot going on upon first listen to one of the three singles Melbourne, Australia band Chained Lizard has released thus far. Theatrical sound design, thrash metal-level guitar shreds and beat structures that range anywhere from industrial to future bass come together in “Broken Glass,” “Take Me for a Ride” and their latest psycho-sexual offering, “Electric Vibes” in a way that hearkens memories of Evanessence or early Linkin Park. There’s even more going on beyond the first listen, however. With composition that’s more like an orchestral arrangement than a rock, pop or standard EDM track, Chained Lizard might truly be able to be called progressive EDM. That said, the group is put together like a standard jam band, with the only exceptions being vocalist Olivia Lisa Marie adding synths and drummer Chris Vozz producing the “electronics.” That’s the thing about being progressive though, isn’t it? Transcending the expected in every way possible. Are Chained Lizard improv or highly composed or both? From the sound of it, both. The band say that their latest “Electric Vibes” single is an amalgam of the styles in their previous tracks, “Broken Glass” and “Take Me for a Ride,” but each of those tracks has plenty of style-melding of their own. “Broken Glass” is a future bass beat and seemingly quite minimal, mostly featuring Olivia Lisa Marie’s extraordinary vocals and acoustic 12-string accompaniment from metal guitarist John Vozz. The sound design, however, borders on industrial or drone. Towards the end of the track, both Vozzes get to show their real chops as it drops into even heavier, nu metal-style sound design and John’s Alexi Laiho-level electric shredding. “Take Me for a Ride” has more pop cachet but still heavily seated in nu metal, with the guitars now a bit more 80s hair metal-inspired. It’s interesting for a guitarist of Vozz’s caliber to be so ensemble-minded, but with his bandmates also being so talented, “Take Me…” seems like a real ensemble effort. it’s anyone’s guess which band member made these compositions or, again, if it was a jam-style effort. The band sort of answers the question with “Electric Vibes,” saying that more time in the studio over the lockdown allowed them to create even more complex and complete music. “If there is any silver lining to lockdown it’s that with all this extra time in the studio we have been able to produce our most technical and ambitious song so far. We think our existing and new audience will really enjoy this track as it is an amalgamation of styles of our first 2 releases. It begins very isolated and delicate and builds to a thumping upbeat and catchy electric vibe.” Indeed all the rough edges from the previous tracks have been sanded down in “Electric Vibes,” and while this track has the most pop feel out of the three tracks thanks to the starburst future bass beat and the A-B-A-B-C-B vocal structure, once again it’s much more complex. Lines of rock and industrial are written into the breaks, ensuring that “electric” bit is felt as emotively as possible at the crescendo, a cacophony of sound reaching the operatic right before the song cuts off. With a sound that’s already so amped up and volatile and so many styles interwoven in the fabric of compositions, it’ll be interesting to see where Chained Lizard go next. More complex beat arrangements? Full tilt progressive black metal (we bet Olivia has a good screech in her vocal repertoire)? Despite their obvious collective skill, it’s likely the band don’t even know what’s coming next. What will happen with the lizard is unchained? Better wait and see. “Electric Vibes” is out now and can be streamed along with “Broken Glass” and “Take Me for a Ride” on multiple platforms by clicking here.
