He’s proven his versatility across the house spectrum, creating everything from sweltering tech house singles to infectious disco house anthems. Now, Rich is back with yet another smash, ready to take over the dance floor with “Summertime”, featuring l’Marco. It’s impossible to resist the groove on this one, and is hopefully just the start of more collaborations between the two artists. Here’s what Rich Furniss had to say about it: “Waiting for the Summer” was inspired by New York City Summer times, Rooftop parties, BBQs, and endless summer nights with your complete strangers or lifelong friends that you never want to end. It’s about the memories you create and the lifelong friendships you forge on the dancefloor. Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 4. Bringing psychedelic and jazz-inspired synths and production into rock or pop music certainly isn’t a new concept. See: the entire 60s, for example. Lately, however, with all the merging of EDM and ambient electronica with pop, there seems to be push more to ravey or hip hoppy styles rather than jazzy or funky. Psychobilly or beach rock has also been making a comeback and leaning heavily on electronica to make those sounds, but generally pop acts don’t pull those jazzy and beachy sounds. At the vertex of all these different trends and sounds, however, is where we find a band willing to merge all that stuff and create a new sound with it: Swansgate Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina and with a beat basis straddling hip hop and trip hop, Swansgate’s first EP in 2020 Mirrors is much more strictly lofi than their most recent LP, Becoming Someone, which dropped a couple of weeks ago in late April. If you know your jazz, you’ll hear twinges of it in the interlude of “U In My Head” or the keys of “Sand to Glass” but these could really be general funk a’la Chromeo or Tame Impala. Indie pop? Sure. Funky? Absolutely. Venturing into psycho-pop, not quite yet. Swansgate saved that for Becoming Someone. With real lashings of The Doors, The Beach Boys, Miles Davis and even actual The Cramps-style psychobilly, Swansgate really let it all hang out style-wise on Becoming Someone and it’s paid off in spades, creating a niche for their sound that’s really got no equal. According to the band’s producer, vocalis, arranger and general frontman Stu Draughn, that fusion of jazz, indie pop, rock, funk, lofi and psychedelic rock came from a personal inspiration point. With this album, we really wanted to bottle up about 20+ years worth of musical influence into a 45 minute piece of music. My dad died a year before starting the project, and that thrust me into a transformation of sorts. I went through a long process of reflection, which led to a better understanding of who I am. Just as we are all children of our ancestors, this album is a child of all of the musical ideas that inspired it. I really tried hard to capture the essence of every artist I’ve ever loved, while arranging things in a way that is new and fun to listen to. The silver lining with tragedy is often a letting go of worries about what others think which can lead to more creative freedom. In this case, that creative freedom created an album that’s both relatable and technically strong, rooted in diverse influence but coming to a modern apex that will appeal to modern audiences. It’s a tough thing to pull off but Draughn and crew manage it beautifully. Almost every track on Becoming Someone has some form of psychedelic presence, from the Doors-like keyboard work in “Lust for Love” to the sitar sample on “Island of Lies” to the ambient production on “Moving Forward,” it’s clear that beach rock vibes are the cherry on top of this funk-infused lofi dream pop. These psychedelic nodes also help tie together the album, which goes from the pure pop and funk of “Lost in the Sun” to the jazzy trip hop of “Drunken Limbo” to ambient jazz like “While the Nighttime Wades.” That string of trippy sound design or synth or even a flourish connnects all these many and sundry styles on Becoming Someone in a surprising way: psycho pop. What lyrically is a journey through grief and loss into becoming whole again, or a different whole is also an homage to Draughn and his bandmates’ love for music and its process. With both processes, one comes out different than they were before, and usually there’s a pretty great byproduct. Becoming Someone and the someone they’ve become are Swansgate’s byproducts. Becoming Someone is out now and can be streamed on Spotify along with Swansgate’s previous EP, Mirrors. To see more videos and a recent live performance from the band, check out their YouTube page. 5. Nostalgix brings default bubbly energy to her latest bass house banger, “My Type,” out now on AC Slater’s Night Bass. “My Type” follows the Nostalgix playbook with catchy lyrics and a booming house beat, making the track easy to sing along with and get down to. As the project continues to blow up, Nostalgix maintains a fun, 90s it-girl essence with every release. Nostalgix has become synonymous with a powerfully energetic sound that fuses hyped-up house productions with her own incredible rap flows, and she brings all of that sassy flavor together for her new single “My Type.” Stacked with a signature hook from Gix, heavy basslines, and hyper rhythms, “My Type” is popping off just in time for EDC weekend. By the way, she’s playing mainstage at EDC Las Vegas this year — putting her in the company of rockstars like Anna Lunoe and Krewella. Listen here! 6. AUSTERIA dips her toes in an experimental realm with her latest track, “SPICY.” Following up AUSTERIA’s rather gritty and well-received original dubstep anthem “THE GARDEN,” the rising talent continues to raise her own bar with “SPICY.” This beast of a track showcases her natural abilities as a bass music producer, with heavy emphasis on the bass. As the track progresses, it calls out “SPICY!” … “THAT’S HOT!” … “VERY SPICY!” But the result is much more sinister, tailored to the project’s signature sound. What we’re actually hearing is AUSTERIA’s immenent rise in the bass scene. A journey that has recently seen her featured on Peekaboo’s Black Hole Tour and playing Red Rocks b2b with friend and fellow producer Zingara as part of Subtronics’ second annual Cyclops Rocks. 7. Wreckno, DEV and Super Future make an iconic trio in their futuristic hybrid hip-hop bass bop “Everything” — out now on Four Loko Records. As part of Wreckno’s mission to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ people in EDM, “Everything” is a show stopper that inspires and empowers with a sick beat and even sicker hook — and that’s on everything. It’s rare that collaborations come together like this, but each piece fits together ever so nicely. DEV’s lush, confident vocals, Super Future’s bass-forward production style and Wreckno’s fresh to death bars. Not to mention a music video worth obsessing over. Wreckno shares how this dream collab came to be: DEV discovered me after my track ‘Medusa‘ with Griz dropped and showed interest in working together. DEV came up with the lyrical concept and sent it to me, then I sent it to Super Future so it kind of snowballed from her first recording. When I first started recording music with my brother in 2011 at 15 years old, we would use her tracks as templates to write our own, so working with her is literally a dream come true. Watch here! 8. Hailing all the way from New Zealand, QUIX initially traveled to North America in 2017 for 10 shows and finished up doing an astonishing 42. He has been tearing up the trap scene ever since, continuously shaking new ground with his unique sound design. Touring worldwide, including headline tours that included Coachella, EDC, and Ultra – QUIX has spanned the globe from North America to Australia, New Zealand, Asia and beyond. His live sets combine an eclectic selection of bass music paired with a personally curated, and often in-house, wonder of visual storytelling – resulting in an unforgettable and oft lauded experience. His music – creatively merging genres with powerful vocals, while staying true to his signature sound. Now, he’s back with with an explosive single, this time working with the talented producer Cyclops for an explosive single, “Pompeii“. The haunting vocals from Crooked Bangs find a perfect home in this electrifying fusion of trap and bass, as Quix and Cyclops equip the track with mind boggling production. On the synergy with QUIX and Cyclops, QUIX said: “The way the relationship came about was us being on the same roster and slowly becoming production friends, then becoming actual friends! Another interesting fact is that the first time we tried writing to this vocal the song kinda failed and we got really stuck to the point when we totally abandoned the song. Then later on I started writing a beat to a Ellie Goulding acapella that conveniently was in the same key! Sent stems to Keith and he wrote this incredible 2nd drop! The song was practically done in a couple days!” Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Quix & Cyclops Drop Explosive Single, “Pompeii” ft. Cooked Bangs

Stepping onto the scene in 2017, he’s recognized for his high-octane signature sound marked by speed and power. As a new producer, Haus of Panda’s catalog could be heard on Diplo & Friends and Sirius XM, catching the interest of artists like Tommie Sunshine, Alan Walker, Tiësto, and more. Whether it’s the rapid-fire tempo of “Punk’d” or the glitchy bass house flavor of “The Power,” Haus of Panda generates a progressive take on rave music with each release. Now recognized as a genre category on Beatport, speed house isn’t just a style of music—it’s the inspiration behind Haus of Panda’s own imprint, Speed House Movement. 17. For a lot of artists hellbent on making a career in music, a debut album signifies a cornerstone moment in their career. Many have leapfrogged the old paradigm of creation and touring, opting for hit singles and club shows, while some take their time and focus on a cohesive body of work before hitting the road. Then, there’s Marc Straight, who already has a flourishing career as a video game dev and sound designer, and chose to work on his debut album for the last four years as a personal challenge to himself. Four years is a long time for anything, but creating over these past four years, in particular, was particularly challenging. A global pandemic and plenty of personal trials and tribulations caused the album to undergo many changes, even in just the last few months before release. Beauty in Transience, the title of the album, as well as the song titles, are clear nods to the emotions Marc has felt before, during, and perhaps even after production. ‘Morii,’ especially, has the meaning of the “desire to capture a fleeting experience. A bit like envisioning your life and wanting to press ‘pause’ to stop and feel more comfortable and rest in a world that is stuck on ‘play.'” With his passion for melodic dubstep, Marc is able to convey complex emotions in a delicate yet powerful way that should have many listeners deeply connecting with his melodies and writing. Marc Straight’s debut album, Beauty in Transience, is out now — listen below. This article was first published on Your EDM. 18. Hot off the release of SPLITTING, Shöckface has returned with north California based singer-songwriter Belak for a new single titled “ALWAYS FEELS LIKE.” The two artists met inside the metaverse after being awarded for their artwork in a soundstage.fm competition. Belak and Shöckface have collected their emotions, feelings and creative energy on their latest collaborative endeavor. “ALWAYS FEELS LIKE” begins with a slightly muted set of vocals from Belak singing, “Eyes closed but I still see your intentions, it always feels like my words fall on deaf ears, your lips speak of heaven it always feels like.” Immediately the record begins to pick up, rolling aggressive synth layers drown out everything in their path and what sounds like entering into a blackhole commences. The creative maestros’ anthemic hybrid bass crossover is bound to tantalize your eardrums in all the ways possible. Signature glitched out Shöckface vocal textures perfectly lay atop the drop as bouts of white noise and fluctuating bass lines paint post apocalyptic industrial soundscapes. Read more about what Belak had to say about the creative process behind writing “ALWAYS FEELS LIKE” – “It was an awesome experience to be a part of this song. Shöckface is such a talented artist and charismatic person that it made the whole process that much more fun. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for both of us. 20. Southern California based, Sysdemes, has developed his own unique sound that combines elements from Electro and Progressive House; crafting a completely unique sonic universe, replete with brooding dark basslines and memorable melodies. A prolific producer, Sysdemes launched his Vault series in 2021 on Bandcamp to release the multitude tracks he had been accumulating but had not yet signed. Vault was a Bandcamp exclusive and initially intended as a way to simply bring to light the sheer volume of tracks and musical musings created during quarantine. “The whole self-release thing was really liberating. It’s great when I have a label like Mau5trap as a partner, but Vault showed me that there’s an audience for even my more experimental material.” Sysx unlucky debuted with the release of the single, “ldr.” A charged electro-influenced beat with ethereal haunting vocals and some pretty undeniable early mau5trap influences. The song set the tone for the label out of the gate. Now comes “Moss, Mourne,” a hypnotic prog track that invokes memories reminiscent of early Deadmau5. His talent in the studio really shines on this one as he effortlessly weaves out a dreamy synth lead while a gripping bass groove keeps you locked into this fantastical journey. It’s clear to see that Sysdemes is continuing to carve his own path in the electronic music scene and we cannot wait to hear more from him. Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 21. Yamato has had a career that seems like some sort of movie. Yamato won “WORLD DJ CONTEST 2013 JAPAN” hosted by Coca Cola. He was then asked by Avicii at the world contest, held in Ibiza, to perform with him at the festival in Budapest, Hungary, which led him to become the first Japanese DJ/producer to perform with Avicii. With the backbone of having been a technical developer of Pioneer CDJ series, Yamato’s superb skill and DJ style that utilizes Pioneer DJʼs CDJ is known to be a style that no one can imitate and it has been renowned and admired from all over the world, attracting audiences at big festivals and clubs in Japan and all over the world. His performance videos series on YouTube has exceeded 30 million views, having fans all over the world and support from A-List names such as Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Lil Jon and many more. Now, he’s back with an impressive EP, titled ‘Essentials‘, signed to the Japanese based imprint Avex. The title track kicks off the EP with bright melodies, driven by a powerful vocal performance from Mike Macdermid. It’s a fresh twist on progressive house, one that feels perfect for a song to wash over the festival grounds at sunset. “Reflection” follows, featuring Poe Leos, seamlessly blending a pop-oriented style with massive electro house segments that ricochet through your speakers. “Shizuku” comes next, yet again showcasing Yamato’s versatility with a beautiful vocal sample paired with tranquil ambiance. Teaming up with Maydenfield, both artist craft all of the alluring soundscapes into a peak time anthemic tune. “Neon Lights” invites Macdermid back on vocal duties, capping off the EP in perfect fashion with a more soulful, slower-paced house music framework. Kendoll’s been making big waves in the house scene and has received massive support from industry giants such as Insomniac, having already played Beyond Wonderland along with Electronic Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. Her label releases include Insomniac Records, Night Bass, Dim Mak, Prescription Records, Psycho Disco!, Audiophile XXL, Four 40, and there’s no wonder why she’s regarded as one of EDM’s fastest rising acts. Speaking of making strides, Chuck Shadow is no stranger to making a few of his own. The Denver born, Los Angeles based, multi-talented electronic artist is known for blending his wide range of influences into his own form of house music ranging from the dark and ethereal to the comically enticing, already earning placements on Night Bass, Brooklyn Fire, and now the Boathouse records. Now, the two have come together for what is a booming bass house single, “Down Low“, that is ready to shake the clubs and festivals alike this summer. 23. The number of times I’ve been fortunate enough to see Trivecta live is devastatingly low (twice), but the number of times I’ve streamed his music, particularly “Wasteland,” is astronomical. From all the way back in 2014 when I was downloading Monstercat compilations off Pirate Bay (sorry, Mike) to all of his recent releases on Ophelia, the Tampa, FL native has consistently pushed his own limits while incorporating new sounds and influences into music. It all culminates today with the release of his debut album, The Way Back Up. Within the first six songs, we already get five different genres: the classic melodic dubstep, a bit of country/folk, some liquid drum & bass, uber wonky bass, and some heavier dubstep with psytrance. Even the next song, “Memory Away” with fakelife, features some of his iconic guitar riffs. The Way Back Up is Trivecta’s first album in his career and it’s a phenomenal listen start to finish. 24. The Chainsmokers are back from their hiatus as they release their fourth studio album, So Far So Good, today, via DISRUPTOR/Columbia Records/RCA. The duo (or is it trio?) long ago jumped ship from EDM into the pop world, but it’s clear they still use their history as producers in their work so it’s been hard to definitively separate the two worlds. But on this album, they fully lean into the pop world as they work with producer Ian Kirkpatrick (Britney Spears, Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo) and Whethan. So Far So Good was created after the guys “escaped to Hawaii with some friends and gave themselves permission to not create anything at all if they didn’t want to.” In an era ruled by algorithms and focus on streaming numbers, there’s a fair bit of privilege that comes with doing something so seemingly mundane as just ‘getting away from it all.’ It’s unfortunate then that the final product feels a bit soulless. Lots of reverbed vocals and glittery synths á la M83 or Owl City don’t do a whole lot to create a meaningful listening experience for fans, in spite of the admittedly clean production. One of the new singles on the album, “Testing,” manages to cover “Pure Imagination” from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory in its outro, preceded by lyrics like Can I say I’ve lost myself? Or would it be too much for everyone at home? Can I say I’ve turned on myself For all the things that I’ve done and everyone I’ve wronged? and then Front a busta with some bab Get that hoe for her fifteen all coupled with some cheesy synthpop and a hype hip-hop drop. It feels wildly disjointed; though, if you weren’t paying full attention to the song, it would actually be really fun. Drew’s voice has gotten better. Or perhaps they’ve discovered some new vocal processing software. It’s hard so say. There’s certainly some Random Access Memories influence on “Solo Mission.” But the lyrical content from The Chainsmokers still suffers from the same lack of world awareness as the guys who once had the phrase “17.34 combined inches” on their website. It’s not like every album has to say something new but even their hit single “High” says Why? You only say you love me when you’re high / It’s like we go through the same shit every night which sounds an awful lot like “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” by Arctic Monkeys, which came out nearly a decade ago. Is it maybe time to move on from asking why love interests only reach out when they’re under the influence? Now, it’s three in the mornin’ And I’m tryna’ change your mind Left you multiple missed calls And to my message, you reply “Why’d you only call me when you’re high?” There have been too many times EDM fans have asked why The Chainsmokers are still billed for headlining slots at EDM festivals. And up until this album, I’ve been able to rationalize it with their admittedly high-octane and energetic sets. But now, I just don’t know. This article was first published on Your EDM.
