PREMIERE: TATE SEDAR Drops Future House Anthem “San Francisco”
TATE SEDAR has made a mark in electronic music, notably performing at the 2020 Insomniac Discovery Project: EDC Virtual Rave-a-Thon. Collaborations with industry heavyweights like Dada Life, Don Diablo, and more have cemented his status as an innovative artist. With over 5.7 million plays in 2023 and tracks along with remixes for the likes of Empire’s Terrell Carter’s “Hero” and an edit of Justin Bieber’s “Hold On” have helped garner him a global fanbase. We’re thrilled to premeire his latest single “San Francisco” for you to hear. San Francisco holds profound personal significance in TATE SEDAR’s artistic evolution. As a city renowned for its musical heritage spanning rock, funk/soul, and hip-hop, it becomes the thematic nucleus of his latest release. “San Francisco” pays homage to the diverse sounds that influenced SEDAR’s formative years while also acting as a platform for his ventures into uncharted musical realms. The track exemplifies the transformative influence of revisiting one’s roots to chart new creative territories. We had the chance to catch up with TATE SEDAR and discuss the single along with what’s ahead. Check it out below! The Genesis of “San Francisco”: Can you describe the moment or experience that inspired you to create “San Francisco”? Was there a specific event in the city that sparked this artistic endeavor? San Francisco was actually something I made by accident. I was playing around with lofi samples and I started to realize: “this sounds a lot like what I grew up with in SF.” Is there a specific event? Well, it’s my youth – my upbringing. And sometimes, you find yourself in other things. And I think that’s what happened with these samples and the production. “San Francisco” represents a fusion of diverse genres. How did you approach the process of blending elements of progressive rock, funk, hip-hop, and post-EDM to create a cohesive sound? I first started with the guitar melody and found out (while I didn’t even realize San Francisco was shining its way through) a sort of connection between rock and funk. The connection, of course, is where I’m from: rock and funk are part of the ‘San Francisco sound.’ And then…I kind of left the middle break alone for a bit. But when I started to hear SF, I thought: “I’m going to add hip-hop,” ‘cuz ‘cmon: the Bay Area – we’re known for that (laughs shortly). Post-EDM is the result of this track; it’s all these different sounds and genres in an electronic format, or at least what people consider, you know, EDM and electronic music now. I didn’t even realize at the time I was coming into the concept of post-EDM until after. Beyond its musical influence, how has the city of San Francisco shaped you personally and artistically? Are there any landmarks, cultural aspects, or personal memories that directly influenced the track? You know what’s kind of funny is: I was raised in San Francisco but have not spent all my life there. I lived there until I was about seven, moved around with family to the [US] East Coast, then London, went to school in [central] NY – and finally made it back to SF (now in LA). My mom always believed she made “SF part of my…identity” and I think it’s very true because, even though we didn’t live there full-time, we visited every summer and winter. It became important still in adolescence: those high school summers when you’re 16, 17, 18 are crucial in everybody’s upbringing. San Francisco has shaped me in terms of my outlook on life, social dynamics & experiences with people and some of my beliefs: I kind of am somebody who believes in and hopes for a world without judgment or discrimination – a world where everyone can be who they are or want to be, regardless of what people think. There is a warmth and care that San Francisco breeds, or at least used to (a story for another day) – but I think I’m still part of that [earlier] generation. I really only discovered what is glam or early progressive rock – Journey – when I lived in London and researched music from SF. Motown and R&B were always part of my youth. I think San Francisco is very much a “melting pot,” like New York City – and that is what this song is: a fondue of music (laughs). Those memories of finding this music is what made this. Some music might be inspired by what’s current now or trends, but this track is about what made me. It’s kind of a retrospective, but also a style and concept I haven’t encountered yet. Your career has now ventured into the realm of what is labeled ‘post-EDM,’ a genre that signifies progression from traditional EDM sounds. How do you define post-EDM, and what makes “San Francisco” a standout piece within this genre? The definition (or my interpretation) of post-EDM is: a progressive style of electronic music that incorporates sounds of what some may consider “the Golden Age of EDM” (2010-2014) and afterward as well as music from the past – really, it’s an amalgamation, a refinement of digital and analog sounds. And I realized this made the most sense, in terms of my career, because I felt limited with synthesized sounds. Yeah, sound design is great: it’s something fresh, people love novelty. But there’s something about what we know – what we’re familiar with – that engages people. You can’t deny that guitars, pianos or even an old vocal style each evoke a certain emotion and I feel like just staying with synthetic music is devoid of that [emotion]. “San Francisco” is the introduction to this sound because it incorporates the three most well-known genres of SF, all of which are pre-electronic music (rock, r&b and hip-hop) and its natural form exhibits the definition of post-EDM. Some people might say “it’s a funk-inspired” or “disco house.” track, and that’s ok. There’s a little more there though, and for those that really wanna take it apart and hear that – I think they’ll get the message. You’ve emphasized storytelling through your music. What story does “San Francisco” tell, and how do you use the different musical elements to convey this narrative? I would say this is more a story of sound than necessarily a narrative. Yeah, I have love songs and songs about finding yourself – but this is the story of San Francisco through music. And sure, it might feel like a history piece, but some people like history. And also, it just hits a lot of spots emotionally when you think of the different analog sounds that inspire it. What’s your plans for the future – how are you feeling about 2024 and where you are headed within the year? I am ready for 2024. I have a lot slated; I have so much music over the past couple of years that basically fit this sound and became the foundations of my rebrand. But also…feeling a little anxious. I committed to trying to put out [1] original and [1] remix a month. That’s a lot of work! I think there is something to offer for people to hear, but I just need to have a year where I get it all out and see what happens. I didn’t put out a lot of music last year and need to expand the catalog. And if it doesn’t stick, we try again! But I’m confident that some of this will connect with people because there is an audience who doesn’t even know they like electronic music – because they don’t know that these sounds that are familiar could also be part of electronic music. And that’s what I’m hoping to do – is to be able to bridge a gap. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: PREMIERE: TATE SEDAR Drops Future House Anthem “San Francisco”

Spotify Now Demonetizing Tracks Under 1,000 Streams
In a groundbreaking move that’s sending waves through the music industry, Spotify has officially pulled the plug on monetization for tracks garnering fewer than 1,000 streams. As of April 1, 2024, the streaming giant’s new policy dictates that only tracks surpassing this threshold within the past 12 months will be eligible for royalty consideration. This adjustment, Spotify claims, will enrich the earnings of tracks that do meet the criteria, considering that a whopping 99.5% of streams are of tracks above this benchmark. But is this a fair play, or does it sideline emerging artists struggling for exposure? A Double-Edged Sword for Creators The rationale behind Spotify’s policy revamp is multifaceted. On one hand, it aims to curb the manipulation of streaming numbers through artificial plays—a move that’s seen targeting genres prone to such exploitation, like white noise, by raising the playtime requirement from 30 seconds to two minutes. On the other, it raises concerns among the music community about accessibility to fair royalties, particularly for lesser-known artists. United Musicians and Allied Workers have voiced significant apprehension, suggesting an overwhelming 86% of Spotify’s content could fall short of the new royalty mark. This discord underscores a growing movement for equitable streaming revenue distribution, championed by initiatives like Make Streaming Pay. Financial Repercussions and the Future of Spotify In tandem with these controversial policy changes, Spotify is navigating financial turbulence, reporting consistent losses since its 2018 stock market debut. In an effort to counteract these deficits, the company is not only tweaking its royalty scheme but also revising customer pricing. Reports by Bloomburg indicate planned increases in subscription fees across various regions, ostensibly to accommodate the costs of expanding content offerings, including audiobooks and educational videos. With these adjustments poised to impact Spotify’s financial landscape and its standing with artists and listeners alike, the coming months will be critical in shaping the future of music streaming. In essence, Spotify’s latest policy and pricing updates signify a pivotal moment for the music streaming industry. As the company seeks a sustainable path forward amid financial challenges, the repercussions for artists, especially those in the nascent stages of their careers, could be profound. With the debate over fair compensation for musicians intensifying, Spotify’s move could either mark a step toward a more viable model for all stakeholders or deepen the rift between streaming platforms and the creative community they depend on. Rinzen Releases Highly Anticipated Album ‘Bend To The Light’
The day has finally come, out today on new music Friday is Rinzen’s anticipated debut album Bend To The Light. Out now exclusively through Lane 8’s label This Never Happened on all streaming platforms. Bend To The Light In the two months between announcement and delivery, Bend To The Light released three singles. The first was ‘Burning’ featuring Shalou, followed by ‘The Pursuit’, and finally ‘Déjà Vu’ featuring Molly Moonwater. These tracks have earned support from prominent names such as Billboard, DJ Mag, Ibiza Global Radio, Mixmag, and SiriusXM, among others. Now, on April 5th, the tracklist grows from 3 to 10. While the album has yet to be experienced in full, a majority of its 10 cuts may sound familiar. Lane 8 played two of the album tracks in his recent mixtape. ‘I Wanna Be Right’ and ‘Astronauta’ towards the end of his mixtape are perfect upbeat and beautiful tracks to come to the end of a journey of 2.5 hours with. Rizen has drawn inspiration from a cyberpunk aesthetic for his album concept. He has created a high-tech world set in the near-future, featuring interplanetary civilizations. The album’s title explores the idea of surrendering to the universe from a spiritual perspective. It encourages molding oneself towards an authoritative figure and making decisions bending towards the light. Rinzen shares his story on the journey of creation of this masterpiece on his social media ahead of his album release. Stand Out Tracks Mike’s vision for this album is to depict a near-future new high-tech world of interplanetary travel, and a dark shadow hides below all the glistens. Upon listening to these 10 tracks, their futuristic, cinematic style will captivate you. It evokes the new worldscapes and you will point out the tracks that are more club-centered. A show-stopper track to me is ‘Astronauta’. As I listen to the song I feel like I am on a journey in space, an interstellar trip. The distorted notes layered, the music feeling like the swooshing of passing asteroids. The soulful synth is created from a granulator processing the human voice. Through this spatial experience, peers through human emotion. The album revolves around the theme of emotion. This is evident from the very first track ‘Burning’ featuring Shallou’s soulful vocals, as well as we progress through the album with ‘Astronauta’ and ‘Empires (Interlude)’ touching the heart strings as well . Rinzen shares his thoughts on the theme and ‘Astronauta’. Emotion is a big part of this album, and this Portuguese vocal spoke directly to my soul. The feeling was so amazing, I knew I had to use it. Vocoders and granulators were a vital part of the album, and on this song in particular I really pushed myself to achieve something special with sound design and vocal processing Rinzen ‘Planets Passing Overhead’ is a track where Rinzen’s futuristic approach with the drums and cybel is evident throughout the song, with synths adding a sci-fi touch. It’s a refreshing addition to the electronic music scene and a great inclusion in this album. Lane 8 and Yotto shared this beautiful track ‘I Wanna Be Right’ for the first time at Dreamstate. It was a prefect track towards the end of their set. Forming a core memory for me whilst the crowd danced in joy in the cool rainy November evening. A perfect closing track, happy, catchy and just a ray full of hope in this new universe built by Rinzen. Tracklist Rinzen feat. Shallou – ‘Burning’ Rinzen – ‘The Pursuit’ Rinzen – ‘Astronauta’ Rinzen feat. Molly Moonwater – ‘Déjà Vu Rinzen – ‘Terraforming’ Rinzen – ‘Scorpio’ Rinzen – ‘Empires (Interlude)’ Rinzen – ‘Planets Passing Overhead’ Rinzen feat. WENNINK – ‘Bend to the Light’ Rinzen – ‘I Wanna Be Right’ I don’t know about you but this album is going to be on repeat for the days to come for me. Give it a listen and let us know what you think. Marking a significant milestone in electronic music history, renowned techno maverick Dave Clarke unveils the digital release of his seminal ‘Red’ series and ‘Archive One’ album for the first time. The digital re-release is accompanied by a unique box set edition commemorating the 30th anniversary of this landmark release. This limited-edition set includes remastered tracks, coloured vinyl singles of the ‘Red’ series, a 16-page booklet with rare photos and sleeve notes, and exclusive remixes from industry icons such as The Chemical Brothers, DJ Sneak, Aux 88 and Umek. In the late 80s, Dave recorded with XL Recordings and R&S amongst others and then in 1992, he launched his own music label, “Magnetic North”, releasing recordings under the moniker ‘Fly By Wire’, ‘Directional Force’ etc. He then produced a series of EPs from 1994 under the name ‘Red’, which were listed by DJ Mag in its “All Time Techno Top 100” list. Clarke released ‘Archive One’ as his debut album in 1996. The album’s raw, spellbinding beats captured the essence of the ’90s rave scene defining the genres; of techno, electro and breakbeat that continue to resonate powerfully to this day. Fast forward to 2023, 30 years after the inception of this body of work, and after both the album and series being unavailable at retail for over twenty years on vinyl (copies have been exchanged on Discogs in the meantime for up to £250), remastered original versions and bonus remixes are being released in a limited edition, one-time pressing, exclusive 6 vinyl set slipcase box with signed photo and a 16-page booklet written by Dave Clarke himself. These were ground-breaking works that helped put Dave Clarke and British techno on the global map and so, the digital release of this iconic music not only celebrates Dave Clarke’s influence but also underscores his unwavering dedication to pushing the boundaries of production; a culmination of authenticity, perseverance, and the enduring power of music. Hailed as ‘The Baron Of Techno’ by the late John Peel, musician, photographer, journalist, artist and a man with a singular electronic vision, Dave Clarke has great instincts – and those singular instincts have kept him on the correct musical path for over three decades straight. Having made music of his own since 1990 – along the way he has remixed everyone from Fontaines DC, A Place To Bury Strangers, Depeche Mode, The Chemical Brothers, Placebo, Underworld, Leftfield, Fischerspooner, Gazelle Twin, Moby, New Order and Super Furry Animals. Both ‘Archive One’ and the ‘Red’ series are acclaimed as THE defining techno albums and 12 inches of the genre. They paved the way for all that followed and are used as a blueprint for quality, style and music production levels and are just as relevant now as they were when originally released. By disposing of the status quo virtues that music must be polished and prepared, Dave Clarke is an underground-championing artist with principles that can’t be bought or sold. The journey to reclaim the rights to ‘Archive One’ and the ‘Red Series’ began in 2016 and stands as a rare success story in label rights. Clarke, alongside a close-knit and dedicated team, persevered through nearly a decade of legalities, fuelled by the unwavering belief in the music’s enduring legacy. The reissue of ‘Archive One’; and ‘Red Series’ not only celebrates but also underscores the importance of finding the right label, emphasising the positive relationship between artist and label. Clarke’s 20-year partnership with Skint Records exemplifies how mutual trust and collaboration can yield remarkable results, allowing artists to share their music with a global audience. Furthermore, the digital release of ‘Archive One’ & the ‘Red Series’ marks a significant shift in how music is consumed and appreciated in the digital age. Embracing streaming platforms, Dave Clarke recognises the cultural significance of making his music accessible to a new generation of listeners, prioritising the impact of his art. As the music industry grapples with the challenges of digitalisation and changing consumer behaviours, ‘Red’ and ‘Archive One’ serve as a poignant reminder of the perpetual value of music. Beyond mere entertainment, great music has the power to shape careers, communities, and even politics. The reissue is not just a nostalgic trip down memory lane but a bold reaffirmation of the roots of all that techno is. As techno continues to evolve, Clarke’s legacy remains indelibly etched in the annals of music history, inspiring generations of artists before and to come. Uner presents “NIN3S” with new single “Void & Dark”
“It’s been a very gentle process of composing on my piano and letting the feelings flow, thinking about every single step of the “creation” and giving the entire composition personality through every moment of the event.” – NIN3S An ethereal sonic soundscape that marks a fresh creative chapter for NIN3S, “Void & Dark” is the new double A-side single from one of Spain’s most forward-thinking artists. Taken from the forthcoming two-part album “Beginning” which tells the story of creation, “Void & Dark” sets the scene for an epic aural interpretation of the very essence of human nature. “NIN3S was a new beginning – the beginning and the end at the same time; it is the most “me” in terms of music, composition and personality. No boundaries, not defined by gigs and clubbing, not defined by anything but to make music from the soul.” – NIN3S With the beautifully melancholic piano that leads the original version contrasting with the urgency and growling electronic synths of the NIN3S Revision, this is the first chapter of a two-sided story that will pair with a brand-new live show to push boundaries both acoustically and visually. Written as a heartfelt, downtempo piano album, each track from “Beginnings” is paired with an electronic “Revision”, providing a completely new perspective on the NIN3S project that reflects the artists’ roots in club culture, and feeds into the forthcoming live A/V show. “The first version was the piano version – the other one is like the “other side” of NIN3S, taking my background in electronic music and giving it a different perspective. It’s like Ying and Yang, day and night – different energies and, of course, two different versions for the live show that allow me to play the same track from a completely different perspective.” – NIN3S An ambitiously creative project that is steeped in storytelling, “Void & Dark” is a creation of both sight and sound – a taste of a much bigger sonic offering through the forthcoming album “Beginning”, and a completely original live show that promises to reflect the scope of one of life’s most esoteric mysteries. Out now across all streaming platforms, the aptly titled production marks an official solo comeback for one of techno’s most in-demand artists. beastboi. Unveils Double-Sided Debut Album, "WINGZ & FANGZ"
Since debuting in 2019, beastboi.'s imaginative take on bass music has remained a hallmark of his sound. Today, he continues to bring his otherworldly sound to life by virtue of his debut album, WINGZ & FANGZ, out now via Disciple. Split between two discs, WINGZ & FANGZ is a genre-defiant masterstroke, flowing between ethereal, house-influenced sounds to the dark depths of riddim. Throughout each of the album's 15 tracks, beastboi. delivers a one-of-a-kind showcase with the help of sydcxx, Jack Blom, Shrike! and Xae along the way. beastboi.c/o Press The first part of the album opens with "DREAM704," an airy track lifted by sydcxx's enchanting vocals and fluttering synths. The pace quickly changes, however, as his collaboration with Jack Blom increases the tempo significantly. Part two strays far from the dreaminess of part one. Instead, beastboi. shows his fangs and lets his sound go haywyre. This section starts with "FRONT SEAT," which hits listeners with a no-holds-barred barrage of bass. The energy is matched throughout each of the nine songs here before reaching its apex in "WEAPON X." All said and done, WINGZ & FANGZ is an impressive release for beastboi. It's a debut unlike most, rife with unfiltered creativity to deliver an incredibly unique record showcasing a sound all his own. Charli XCX and Gesaffelstein Go "B2b" for New Single Off Upcoming Album, "Brat": Listen
After her recent Boiler Room DJ set, Charli XCX declared that she "came from the clubs." Now, we're getting another taste of her full-blown foray into dance music after she released a new single produced by one of the genre's most influential producers. Ahead of the release of her sixth studio album Brat, the British pop star, who was recently honored with the ASCAP Global Impact Award, has joined forces with French electronic music icon Gesaffelstein for "B2b." Starting with an acid-inspired bassline, he lays down a steady beat before Charli XCX jumps in with a characteristically catchy hook that will linger in your head long after it ends. While the production is minimal in nature, you can certainly hear the sounds of Gesaffelstein—fans of whom affectionately call the "dark prince of techno"—blending seamlessly with the infectious pop stylings of Charli. "B2b" follows "Club classics" and "Von dutch" as the third single off Brat, which is scheduled to release on June 7th. Meanwhile, Gesaffelstein last week released his first album in nearly five years, the stunning GAMMA. He's now set to return to Indio later this month to perform at Coachella 2024.
