  2. Will Laroca aka William Fredriksson is a Swedish artist, songwriter and producer. Even though Will Laroca is a new project, William is no newcomer. In Sweden he is already a multi-platinum producer in the production team TMA, together with his childhood friend Tiam Faorkhy Nia, as well as a gold certified solo artist (under the artist name WILLOW). From 2012 until today, William has helped shape Sweden’s modern hip-hop sound in collaboration with some of the most influential Nordic hip-hop artists. His music fluidly moves through electronic music and acoustic instruments as well as different genres and styles to create his own personal and exciting sound. The music is easy to access for everyone without losing a deeper meaning, both lyrics and melodies are important for him. Laroca’s influences come from all kinds of genres besides EDM, anything from rap, disco, rock and funk to Swedish/Middle Eastern/South American/African folk music and ethnic beats, as well as pop and country. Now, this talented artist is back with his new single “Holy Ones” signed to Virgin Music Sweeden. It’s a smooth, pop oriented house track with nuances of Meduza and even Bastille, but all together, unique to Will Laroca. Will explains, “Everyone has darkness and light, we all struggle with those sides and the song is about overpowering your darkness, standing firm and believing in your purpose. If you have purpose, you are a holy one. Have some faith and know your worth!” With plenty of musical influences present on “Holy Ones,” the most impactful inspirations around the track comes from his faith and God. “The transition into house music came from a genuine interest in mixing different music styles and experimenting with different tempos and genres. Because of my hip-hop background with very meaningful and personal text and content, it came naturally to me to mix them and create my own take on EDM with deep lyrics. I’m a musician with the greatest respect for the art of music. The possibility to express emotions, dreams and thoughts through a song is what drives me. I basically fell in love with making melodies.” – Will Laroca This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Will Laroca Drops Addictive, Pop Oriented House Track, “Holy Ones”
  3. Based in Tampa, FL Chemikkal continues to impress us with all that he does. He has developed a tenacious work ethic over the years, allowing him to progress to become the DJ/Producer he is today. Whilst many DJs and Producers are one trick ponies, Chemikkal has a unique innate competency to ingeniously present music in multiple forms while maintaining a consistent brand. Apart from being fluid, the artist’s ability to appeal to a plethora of different audiences from all walks of life in the very same room, is one of the primary factors that make Chemikkal so extraordinary. Now, he’s back, this time making his major label debut on Warner Bros. Records/Atlantic Records UK/Warner Music Group sub label Blanco Y Negro Music with his incredible new single, “Mine“. It’s future rave, it’s trance, and all in all its hands down another solid successful release for this young up and coming producer. “I am back again with a huge electro/future rave-styled record called “Mine”. This record has massive melodic undertones that are mixed with the fast-moving dance lead elements making it the perfect record for edition playlists like Beast Mode. Mine was such an interesting track to create, I was able to blend in trap elements, and half-tempo productions with huge wide leads bringing the whole track together.” – Chemikkal Listen below! 4. Adelaide based, Baghdad born producer Motez has been a staple in the Australian electronic scene and beyond, renowned for his dance-floor hit singles “Down Like This feat. Tkay Maidza” and the ARIA platinum accredited record “The Future feat. Antony & Cleopatra”. Beyond his own body of work he has fashioned official remixes for the likes of RÜFÜS DU SOL, Goldlink, Flume, Disclosure, and Ellie Goulding. As one of the most sought-after electronic acts in Australia, the energy in his live sets have earned him countless slots at major festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Beyond The Valley, and Lost Paradise. This year has seen Motez take the stage at WOMADelaide where he debuted his live set with string quartet, brass sections, and children choir, giving eager crowds a masterclass in the darker side of dance. That very set was broadcasted on Triple J as part of their Live at the Wireless series. Now, he’s back with a sizzling new single titled “Get It Done” ft. Scrufizzer that is Motez perhaps at his best yet, combining darker synth melodies with an unrelenting four on the floor groove that is utterly irresistible. Scrufizzer’s vocals pulse through the track, solidifying it as yet another dance floor heater. “The theme of the track is right there in the name: ‘Get it Done’ It’s a statement of rebellion, defiance and charging through no matter what, despite all of what goes on through life you’ll be here and you’ll always get it done.” – Motez Listen below! Through the fusion of electronic music production, lyric writing, videography, vocal performance, and visual arts, Worlds Apart is on a mission to spread a message of love, hope, and excitement to as many people as they can, and it’s safe to say they accomplish this mission in all they do. Ashley’s passion is with the visual arts, where she brings her visions to life through the creation of electronic, video, and photographic art. Together, the three make an impeccable team, and are back with a new single rife with passion, nostalgia, and lots of “feels” titled “Take Me Away” ft. Scarlett. The moment the arrangement kicks in, it’s impossible not to be enraptured by the feeling it evokes as Scarlett’s pristine vocal sits forefront, helping lift this song into a whole new dimension. “Take me away, from all of the danger so we can be free, of violence and hatred. 7. KARTYPARTYY (Kart) is a Bass DJ & Producer based in Bangkok, Thailand who continues to deliver incredible, forward thinking music. Whether it’s BASS, Dubstep, Melodic Dubstep, or anything that hits hard; everything revolves around his love and passion for Rock. It was his passion and hunger for more that led to Kart being at the forefront of this genre in Thailand. Since 2017 Kart has stayed humble, playing small gigs at any club in Asia that would be brave enough to play some new sound. Today Kart is a regular at all the local Music Festivals in Thailand and is also becoming a household name around Asia for bringing that harder, louder, Bass bumping music to the masses. Kart’s passion does not end with him, he founded and created a platform called Bass Head Temple for all those who share the same excitement and affection for Bass Music. Now, he’s back with a thundering single titled “Everything” featuring Micah Martin that blends a sense of nostalgia with hard hitting, head banging sounds that take you to a bass music paradise. “EVERYTHING” represents the uphill battle, the pain, the blood, sweat, tears, and struggle of people fighting daily to reach their goal. Being told you’re not good enough, you don’t have what it takes, and people just not believing in you. Getting knocked down, taking all this criticism but never letting it deter you from going after your dream.” – KARTYPARTYY Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 8. We talk a lot in the electronic music sect about style-hopping and the artists who do it; it’s a common occurrence for, say, a D&B producer to try their hand at techno or a dubstep artist to dip a toe into bass house. It’s all just different tempos and levels of syncopation at the end of the day, isn’t it? Music culture is also no stranger to the odd EDM/pop or EDM/hip hop crossover. Experimental electronic artists reach a little farther into jazz, classical and other fringe genres, but they’re alway still identifyably experimental. British Columbia-based artists jRadx isn’t even that, really. With hip hop beats leading to vapor wave synths, breaks that hang in air, robot sounds making up song structures and industrial loops paired rap (and that’s just two tracks), jRadx’s latest album Desert Power is a tough one to unpack, but in the best possible way. Like one of those creepy photos where your mind turns over and over trying to make sense of the random parts and it never quite fits, there’s a twisted beauty to jRadx’s work. Because it’s such a patchwork, he may be the first artis to truly pull off being completely devoid of genre by way of using all the genres. Don’t get us wrong: jRadx’s work, despite being musically dadaist, is very listenable. Even danceable. He began learning about music and production while studying communications at Simon Fraser University in BC. Media and its current place in society (or the fact that is almost is society nowadays) is one of the things that inspires jRadx both philosophically and musically. His earliest, pre-self-produced works, dubbed on his SoundCloud as the “Early Tapes” are spoken word-style social commentary raps over existing beats. While in Desert Power it’s difficult to discern jRadx’s core influence, these early raps and his subsequent productions are obviously inspired by hip hop. His first three albums, released all within a four-month period last year, have a slightly stronger core in hip hop that most listeners will be able to track. Final Boss has a load of Wu Tang-like beats and kung fu sampling while Bedlam in the Basement sees a stretch into more EDM territory with industrial beats, fewer vocals and lots of experimental sound design. Phongcore starts to show jRadx’s need to play with different sounds and genres but by doing so it lands squarely in the experimental electronica category and is not quite the genreless, glorious mess that is Desert Power. We’ve been dancing around it for 400 words, but it’s time now to get into said glorious mess. Desert Power is seminal for jRadx for a number of reasons, the most of which is that it’s the first cohesive discovery of what his style is and can be all in one place. The previos three albums were written over a long period of time while jRadx found that style, and now it’s on display for people to listen to, feel and scratch their heads over. And, of course, for critics to try (and fail) to pick apart and categorize. From the peaceful “Intro” to the mock-industrial “Maybe” to the Hudson Mohawke/Daft Punk hybrid that is “AAAAAAA” to the tribal/folk-inspired “Digital Music Therapy” to the most structured dance track on the album ironically called “Freeform,” Desert Power is every style and no style all at once, making it simply jRadx’s style, tied together only with the passion and emotion of his creative play. There’s a track on this album that fans of every genre will love, and also one that will make thos same fans very nervous. That’s what makes it good art, and that’s what makes it truly genreless. Since Desert Power, jRadx has already released a track called “Megatron” which is loosely Goa-inspired, an experimental/industrial hybrid track called “Optimus Prime,” a sort of lazy-beated (not trap) hip hop track that hearkens back to his old spoken word work and a drum & bass track titled (for now) “Unknown” whose beat is made up entirely of beatboxing. How can we track that style-wise? We can’t, and that’s the point. jRadx · Unknown jRadx is a study in, and possibly the answer to what happens when an artist is completely self-and-internnet-taught, does exactly what they want and is both not influenced by any trend and influenced by everything. There’s no way to predict where he’ll go next, and honeslty no one can really hold him to a genre. In that way he’s truly a free artist. You can’t hold an artist to a genre is there is no genre, and with Desert Power and all his past and future works, jRadx is a good reminder that we shouldn’t have done that in the first place. Desert Power and jRadx’s other albums can be streamed on Bandcamp and Spotify but it seems the most up-to-date source of his mad scientist vibes is still SoundCloud. Check out his YouTube channel for more chaotic neutral vibes in A/V form. This article was first published on Your EDM. 9. The road to Actual Life 3 from Fred again.. is getting shorter and shorter, and the second single from the project just dropped. “Bleu (better with time)” samples “You’re Mines Still” by Yung Bleu featuring Drake. So far, the singles from AL3 have been good, but not great. They sound quintessentially like Fred again.. but are missing the verve and vigor of AL2. Regardless, we’re still going to have this on repeat as we see him this weekend at Portola in San Francisco and next week in Los Angeles. Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 10. Across ten albums in the past decade, GRiZ has remained exceptionally consistent and progressive with his musicality, and it remains true with his latest work, Chasing The Golden Hour Pt. 4. The last installment of the series came out in 2020 and returns now with the same vibrant and melodic style. Over the course of nine new tracks, and once again inviting ProbCause back, along with Chrishira Perrier, it’s not difficult to imagine taking an evening drive or bike ride toward the setting sun and just letting your worries pass you by. Regarding the album, GRiZ said, “I wanted to recreate the carefree good vibes you feel when it’s just about sunset on the perfect summer evening and everything is the most beautiful shimmering tint of gold. ‘Chasing The Golden Hour’ is that magical moment, it is the cool breeze against your back, it is sweet summer swagger in music form.” Listen below! 11. Los Angeles based producer and DJ, Patrick Perffeto known as Perfetto orignally from Montgomery, Maryland has assembled a top notch lineup of remixers for his latest single ‘Night Calls Me’ featuring John Twilight. Remixes from the insanely talented list of producers include ALRT, DotEXE, Going Deeper, and Valy Mo all putting their own twist on Perfetto’s uplifting single. The original release “Night Calls Me” has a progressive house feel, and each remix brings something new to the original record. ALRT’s remix keeps things simple and has a tech house feel with his unique style of bass and speed house that he has rode to prominence with. DoTEXE has a very euphoric future bass groove, along with tasteful vocal chops, and a unique arrangement. 12. EGZOD has an interesting twist to the way he produces music. From even his earliest projects like “Talisman” to more recent projects like “Royalty”, the Portuguese-French producer and DJ has always had a knack for making his tracks sound bigger than they appear. Through auspicious creativity and dramatic flair, EGZOD’s music has a way to captivate listeners with thunderous drums, supernatural synths, and surprise elements from one track to the next. That work ethic is exemplified on his latest single “The Way Out” featuring Bertie Scott. The song starts with a distant horn that sounds like the intro to an epic story. Bertie Scott chimes in with this whispery-singing that sets a calm tone to this otherwise anthemically-building song. The synths on this future-bass, melodic dubstep drop are stacked like a thick wall of euphoria while the drums pound like shots in the dark. On the second go around, EGZOD’s drop takes a hyper-house beat and goes in while the synths fortify their captivating soundscape. If any of EGZOD’s song were to make it to the legendary Spinnin’ Records, I’m ecstatic that it’s this one. Make sure to take a listen to “The Way Out” via Spinnin’ Records. 13. Vetted Artist Facading is here with another powerful banger. The DJ and music producer virtuoso is ready to continue his mission of conquering the music world with yet another certified hit “Tonight” ‘Tonight’ starts off with an energetic and almighty vocals, with powerful drums, and a layer of ambience that lets the melody slip in to become the center of attention; soon, a hard-hitting drop comes and releases the party. This track is a perfect mix of EDM and Drum n’ Bass showcasing the artists signature flavour that will surely make everyone who listens to it move. Electrifying pads and synths keep the vibes up, as the catchy one-liner “Feel So Alive” melody repeats throughout the song without being monotonous taking the center stage once more. The gifted artist has made the release of high-quality music a constant habit; getting him closer to reaching new milestones and accolades with each new track. Recently, he released singles like ‘Crossed The Line’, ‘Walk Away’ and many more. Facading takes on the EDM world seamlessly garnering over 12 millions streams on Spotify alone. He is surely not one to miss as his signature sound and sonic explorations take his music to new levels with each release. Facading is a relentless artist that shows no signs of slowing down as every release under his name has the stamp of an authentic hit. This article was first published on Your EDM. 14. The “sophomore slump” is a well documented phenomenon in which a second effort fails to live up to the relatively high standards of the first effort. Common examples include schooling, athletics, television, or films and video games. Of course, it also applies to music wherein a hit debut album is followed by a second that can’t manage to live up to the first. Below are ten examples of EDM albums where the second was better than the first — not necessarily a “sophomore slump,” per se, as these albums more than exceeded their predecessors. Modestep – London Road Fans were excited for Modestep’s debut album, Evolution Theory, in 2013 following their breakout hits “Show Me A Sign” and “Sunlight.” But, for as timeless as those singles are, the album as a whole doesn’t really stand up as it did almost a decade ago. Then, they released London Road, which we named our #7 album of the year. Far more gritty and rock-leaning, the album did away with the more pop sound of the previous album and leaned into collaborations with Teddy Killerz, Culprate, FuntCase, and Trolley Snatcha, as well as metal with Skindred and grime with a huge collab featuring Rude Kid, Big Narstie, Dialect, Discarda, Flowdan, Frisco, and Layz. As a whole, the project blew us away and we still repeat it to this day. Odesza – In Bloom Odesza’s first album was forgettable enough that when A Moment Apart came out, we erroneously called it their second album. It’s not that Summer’s Gone is a bad album. It’s more accurate to say that most fans today likely discovered them from their sophomore album, 2014’s In Return. Almost every song on the album is a hit, and each is more powerful with those surrounding it. Though, listening to “Say My Name,” “White Lies,” or “It’s Only” on their own still conjure up equal doses of nostalgia and awe. Daft Punk – Discovery Daft Punk came out with their debut album, Homework, in 1997, long before most of today’s newer EDM fans were even born. (Let that sink in.) Singles like “Da Funk” and “Around The World” brought attention to the name, but it wasn’t until Discovery four years later that they truly cemented their status as legends. “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” in particular, were so popular they made it to radio stations in the US which typically catered to rock, alt, and pop genres. The latter was sampled by Kanye. To say that Homework is better by any stretch of the imagination, though it was their important debut, would be a lie. Flume – Skin Our first of three more controversial choices on this list, Skin is better than Flume. The debut album from the Australian future bass pioneer has an incredible stranglehold on fans with singles like “What You Need,” “Holdin On,” and “Sleepless.” But the album came out in 2012, a couple years before “future bass” was even a thing, and it’s reflected in the more disparate organization and songwriting on the album. On the other hand, Skin, even leaning as far into pop as it is, is a far more cohesive album. Bringing on plenty of vocalists to tie themes together helped the album land multiple Billboard placements and will still be one of Flume’s strongest projects he’s released. Baauer – PLANET’S MAD Baauer’s approach to his albums is fascinating. With Aa, he traveled to Glasgow, Japan and the United Arab Emirates to record and produce the project, giving it an international sound and appeal. With PLANET’S MAD, he took his focus outward, and imagined what a scenario in which our planet was wholly destroyed. To be honest, this one is truly a matter of taste. Both albums present in radically different sonic motifs, but PLANET’S MAD is by far a more experimental album and one in which you can tell that Baauer really pushed himself sonically and professionally. ZHU – RINGOS DESERT When ZHU released GENERATIONWHY in 2016, he hadn’t yet removed the veil on his project. He still performed behind a translucent screen and wore the staple borsalino, but with a veil in front of his face. To that effect, it almost felt like we weren’t getting the true artist when the album was released. Jump forward two years and ZHU had grown as an artist and as a project. RINGOS DESERT was a brilliant display of progress musically, with tracks like “Burn Babylon,” “Provacateur,” and “Desert Woman” leading the charge. RL Grime – Nova Our second controversial choice — Nova from RL Grime. When consulting a friend about this list before publishing, his response was, “You’re smoking crack.” I’ve never tried crack, so I don’t know what he’s talking about, but I can recognize that this choice could be crazy. Though VOID is an absolutely iconic album for so many reasons, like so many of the past examples, Nova really exemplified a development in his sound and style that resonated with fans and critics. Zedd – True Colors Wrapping up our controversial threesome, True Colors by Zedd is just better than Clarity and if you don’t agree then you’re blinded by nostalgia. Opposite to Modestep, Zedd began with a more gritty electrohouse sound and nosedived straight into pop with his second album, but by that time, he had perfected it. He had made the genre his own and incorporated elements of pop into his own unique production and the result was nothing short of breathtaking. His original True Colors festival sets remain some of our favorite to listen to on boring days when we need something to pick us up. deadmau5 – Random Album Title Random Album Title is almost a “gimme” in this situation, much like Odesza’s In Bloom. The album followed his debut, Vexillology, released in 2006. The classic deadmau5 sound got him some festival gigs and the like, but Random Album Title made him a household name and brought the iconic red mau5head to his sets for years. Feed Me – Calamari Tuesday Eschewing his original moniker of Spor, Feed Me burst onto the scene in the early 2010s with Feed Me’s Big Adventure, a raucous display of electrohouse and bass that shook EDM with a green, impish character at the forefront. “Green Bottle” and “Cloudburn” were on repeat in clubs for months, but as a cohesive project, Calamari Tuesday takes the cake. Some consider FMBA an EP, despite it having 10 tracks, just by the nature of its release. So this could be the only example where the sophomore slump actually hits (with High Street Creeps six years later), but for the purpose of this article, we’re choosing to view FMBA as an album. And in that case, Calamari Tuesday presents as a wholly more complete and visionary release and example of what Feed Me was at the time. 15. Just two weeks after their frequent collaborator and contemporary NGHTMRE released his debut album, SLANDER are now rolling out with their own, THRIVE. Featuring ten tracks with five previously released singles, including “Love Is Gone,” released in 2019, the album apparently tells a cosmic love story. “In the future, this astronaut is searching for a place to start life again, but he has a love back on earth in the past,” notes Derek Anderson. “The name THRIVE sets the tone as it reflects the spaceman’s journey to make the human race thrive again. During the journey, he experiences relationship flashbacks of his memories on earth as he gets farther and farther away from the home. You’re essentially hearing all of this.” That certainly helps to make sense of the album cover now. “An album has been a long time coming for us,” adds Scott Land. “We were never stuck in one place long enough to make ten songs with a singular vibe though. It got to the point where the pandemic happened, and it was almost the perfect timing. We didn’t have any shows, and we had the space for a full body of work. We’ve known each other for twelve years, always DJ’ed together, and shared similar tastes in music. We got to have a bit of fun now.” Listen below. 17. When you speak about legends in electronic music, many people will gravitate toward Daft Punk, Justice, Carl Cox, Kaskade, even Swedish House Mafia. None of these are wrong answers, but one that’s often overlooked in the general discourse is Andy C. Active since the early ’90s, he predates many of the more popular artists by today’s standards. But ask any drum & bass DJ who their top 3 are, and he’ll be in there 99% of the time. Though he doesn’t put out a ton of music, with only a handful in the past decade, his DJing skills are undeniable, often going for 3-6 hours in his sets without breaking a sweat. Now, Andy C has announced his biggest ever headline event, Andy C presents Alive 2.0, in London at The O2 Arena on April 7, 2023. A brand-new show with a 5 hour DJ set from the man himself, this marks the first time a DJ-led gig has taken over the prestigious venue. This will also be the biggest indoor drum & bass event the UK has ever seen. ‘Alive 2.0’ is a new vision of Andy’s ground-breaking visual spectacle where he takes over the controls of the visual elements of his set and remixes the show live. The production includes brand new Alive 2.0 set design, bespoke visuals and light show – all whilst Andy plays a special 5 hour set. Sign-up for access to pre-sale tickets opens today, with pre-sale tickets available from September 28 (artist and O2) at 10am, and September 29 (Live Nation and venue) at 10am. Any remaining tickets will then go on general sale at 10am on September 30. (All times are GMT.) Fans can sign-up via: www.andyc.london. 18. This past weekend, Gordo, pka Carnage, played a headline set at Ministry of Sound and decided to keep going past his allotted set time, cutting the sets of two DJs after him. After Waze shared his experience from the set on Twitter, without mentioning Gordo by name initially, it didn’t take long for social media to put two and two together. Yesterday afternoon, Gordo released a statement explaining his side of the story, stating that he’s been doing sets ranging from “3 hours to 10 hours to give my fans the best show experience possible.” He wrote that the promoters and management told him that his set time was flexible and “there would be a closer on stand by if I wanted to end early.” From the statements made by Waze and Essel, this was not communicated to them in the same fashion Gordo offered to add the two of them to his future shows, though neither artist has yet to publicly take him up on his offer. pic.twitter.com/w2tP1VWfqo — GORDO (@GordoSZN) September 20, 2022 Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. 19. After his inspiring album on Subsidia and collaboration with DJ Diesel, FREAKY straight off the back of his North America tour joins forces with the two powerhouse of VLCN and Sara Benyo to create the anthemic and emotional masterpiece entitled, ‘Falling To Pieces’. Releasing on the infamous Lowly Records, commenting on this release FREAKY states: “These lyrics really hit home with me. I think all of us can agree that at some point in our lives, we’ve been let down by someone we trusted. The feelings that come with that sort of letdown are often unforgettable. Although we are often told to be strong in those hard times, sometimes it seems like we are just falling to pieces.” Enjoy ethereal melodies, atmospheric sound design and emotional lyrics on this stunning track. 20. This past weekend, ILLENIUM debuted some new music with Nurko, remixing “Golden Hour” by JVKE. While it would be great to have a headline saying it was his first remix in years, he actually just released a remix for the legendary Nirvana just earlier this year. So, second in a while will have to suffice. Still, ILLENIUM remixes are very rare and they never fail. Check out the short clip below and stay tuned for the official release! 21. Jamie xx, as transient as his releases are, just released his second single of the year today, “KIL DEM.” In fact, since his album In Colour in 2015, he’s only released three other original tracks, as well as one remix, one “live remix,” and a club verison of “SeeSaw” from the album. The new track today makes use of his characteristic minimal and melodic production, combining catchy looped and chopped vocals with a simple melody and rhythm that is an immediate earworm — but more importantly, perhaps, the minimal production leaves it ripe for remixes to fill in the gaps. Not that they need to be filled in the first place. You can catch Jamie xx live this weekend at Forest Hills Stadium in New York and at Portola Festival in San Francisco, then the Hollywood Bowl at the end of the month. 23. Swedish House Mafia has been getting a lot of flak recently for their cancelled tour shows, and even some residual hate for their recent IKEA collaboration (though, not as much). Still, their force as icons in electronic music is nothing to take lightly. Having just released their new album Paradise Again earlier this year, they’ve already dropped a new collaboration with Fred again.. and now have their sights set on the pop world once again with an apparent Alicia Keys collaboration. The new song is a cover of “Finally” by Kings of Tomorrow featuring Julie McKnight, originally released in 2000 on Defected Records. Originally, the song is quite minimalistic with rolling hi-hats and McKnight’s gospel-inspired vocals crooning atop the sparse piano notes. Now updated for the main stage, SHM and Alicia Keys have transformed one of house music’s classic records into something fit for the main stage. Whether that will be appreciated by the OGs is yet to be seen. Check out the video from 1001tracklists below. Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. 24. If you’ve never seen Pendulum live (which due to their near-decade long absence from the touring circuit, likely many have not), you’re missing out. The 4-piece band brings classic drum & bass flavor with a live band performance to create a truly unforgettable experience. Last month, the band performed “secret” sets at both Reading & Leeds Festivals in the UK. Writes NME: Yesterday (August 26) on the first day of music at this year’s pair of events, a cryptic poster displaying Pendulum’s band logo was spotted at R&L’s southern edition. It features a UK phone number (+44 7888 863751) that, when called, plays a pre-recorded message regarding a mystery show. “Ladies and gentlemen, we understand that you have come tonight to bear witness to the sound of drum and bass,” a voiceover states. “We regret to announce that this is not the case. As instead we come tonight to bring you the sonic recreation of the end of the world.” It adds: “Reading Festival prepare to hold your colour.” A similar message is also sent to the caller as a text. The band hadn’t played a live set in the UK since April 2018, so their inclusion on the lineups was surely reason to be excited. Though our US readers likely weren’t present, Pendulum has uploaded the full live set from Reading Festival on their YouTube, complete with a brand new song and Enter Shikari frontman Rou Reynolds on stage to perform his band’s hit “Sorry You’re Not A Winner.” Watch the full set below! 25. As long as DJs have been DJing, set times have (generally) been a thing. You have a predetermined time to play your set, you play out your final song, and the next DJ goes on. Sometimes it’s acceptable, if the other performers are okay with it, to go over a little bit, especially if it’s a headline club play and not a festival set. But to go hours over your time and cut the final two DJs of the night is basically unheard of. Cue Gordo, pka Carnage, who headlined Ministry of Sound this past Saturday. After his headline set, or rather, after he was scheduled to end, he apparently continued playing, cutting the closing sets of Waze and Essel who were scheduled to play after him. Headline DJ refused to come off last night and the 2 acts after him (me and another DJ) lost our sets. I’m over a decade of playing I’ve honestly never seen this level of entitlement or arrogance and I’ve DJed with way bigger (and better) artists. — Waze (@Waze_Music) September 18, 2022 Essel ain’t holding back the info pic.twitter.com/iOol73XYnR — xB1ack0pp5x (@xB1ack0pp5x) September 18, 2022 Twitter responded overwhelmingly in support of the two who had their sets cut, in particular Essel who drove 10 hours for the set. twice i’ve had a headliner get my set shut down (in the side room) because i cleared his weak mainroom floor. multiple times i’ve been banished to a side room upon arrival, after being flown in / promo’d as a main room headliner. 20 + years into this, some egos know no bounds. — SPEED OF SOUND (@reidspeed) September 18, 2022 @GordoSZN a tad selfish of you, although most of you American dj’s/producers think you get to steal others playtime/airtime. Respect other artists you need to!! Just imagine you had your 1st opportunity ripped away by a selfish dj like yourself after a 5 hour trip? Greed man — Jammo (@JammoLad1) September 18, 2022 All comes down to basic manners / which all come for free ! I’ve been taken aback. I have played with people like Kenny Dope, Armand Van Helden, Francois K, Kerri Chandler. Have never experienced this. — Waze (@Waze_Music) September 18, 2022 At the end of the day, Waze doesn’t want MoS to catch any of the flak, and he and Essel are already in talks to play another night. They very kindly have. We are friends, and we have been in touch. It’s not their fault in all honesty; people seem to want to deflect and try to heap blame on them. — Waze (@Waze_Music) September 18, 2022 Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM.
