Watch SVDDEN DEATH and Marshmello DJ Atop Roof of Iconic Chicago Hotdog Joint
Forget the ketchup and mustard—Marshmello and SVDDEN DEATH brought the real Chicago relish over the weekend with a rare pop-up DJ set on the roof of The Wiener's Circle. In a scene ripped from a culinary fever dream, the duo turned the Windy City into Wobble City on Saturday as they dropped a barrage of dubstep tracks while perched atop the iconic hotdog joint, which is beloved for serving street food "with a side of insults." Like the way a well-crafted Chicago dog elevates the humble frankfurter to new heights, Mello and SVDDEN DEATH's raw energy elevated the daytime rave to an unforgettable electronic music experience. Fans permeated the block as the sizzle of the grill and the thump of the bass reverberated through Clark Street. The crowd became so large, however, that the Chicago Police Department arrived after roughly 20 minutes to shut down the event, according to a member of EDM.com's staff in attendance. Joshwa Launches New Record Label, No Bad Fridays
Joshwa has launched a new record label, No Bad Fridays, by virtue of its debut release, "Get Stupid/Lluvia." Some of the London-based producer's most memorable career moments, he said, have unfolded on Fridays, when most new music releases. "It's never a bad day when new music is released into the world," he said in a press release. "It's been a dream of mine to have my own label to share the music that represents the sound I play in my sets—a mixture of dark and light. I wanted to channel the positivity music has had on my life through the label and what better day to do it than a Friday... No bad feelings on a Friday." The label's debut is a two-pronged tech house release from Joshwa himself. "Get Stupid" pulses with lively percussive elements, vibrant vocal chops and—just as the vocals boldly command—a "funky ass bassline." On the flip side, "Lluvia" enchants with a house beat that seems to glisten like raindrops, accompanied by haunting Spanish vocals and a mesmerizing flute pattern. The Duality of Mau P: An Underground Advocate Becomes a House Music Vanguard
Mau P's journey didn't begin in pursuit of the spotlight's glare—it unfolded in the dimly lit corners of the underground, where the energy is raw and ambitions run deep. Fortune had different plans for the breakout DJ and producer, who, despite his underground inclinations, has released a slew of major commercial hits in short order, beginning with the infectious anthem "Drugs From Amsterdam." Since then, Mau P, whose real name is Maurits Westveen, has become nothing short of a seminal figure in the electronic music landscape as he bridges the gap of house music's past and future with unparalleled finesse. Mau P.Tommy Reerink In the heat of Miami Music Week, EDM.com caught up with Westveen for a sit-down interview at The W Hotel. He shared insights into his musical journey thus far, which has oscillated between the allure of commercial success and the raw, unfiltered essence of underground dance music with each intriguing chapter. There's perhaps no better illustration of this dynamic than Mau P's latest Beatport #1 hit, "Beats For The Underground," which has not only dominated charts but also blitzed the world's warehouse parties and club dancefloors alike—all after evolving through six different versions. "The fun thing was that people were noticing small changes I added in each version of the song," Westveen recalled of the track's unique trajectory. When he noticed the rips on YouTube alone were garnering hundreds of thousands of views, the decision to ultimately slate it for an official release was a no-brainer. With a background rooted in the stylings of big room house music under the umbrella of his former alias, Maurice West, Westveen's transformation into Mau P started as a daring plunge in the throes of the pandemic. Indeed, the artist's shift from the festival-friendly sensibilities of Maurice West to the underground panache of Mau P has not been without its ironies. "Drugs From Amsterdam" catapulted him into the limelight far beyond the smoke-filled rooms of the underground scene he'd come to cherish. "They wouldn't let me be underground," Westveen jokes, reflecting on the track's unexpected success. "We wanted to dive more into the underground sounds and with the first track we'd already messed it up." Despite the whirlwind of success, Mau P remains immensely grateful for the journey and the choices with which it has afforded him. However, the rapid growth was not without growing pains. "Nobody knew what Mau P was and what we wanted to accomplish here," Westveen says of the time immediately following his breakout success. "We had to be so careful about picking the lineups, and which parties to play and what remixes to do." Ultimately, he believes that navigating these opportunities has been a privilege, allowing him to craft his path with intention and authenticity. "It's easier to have that problem [of choice] and be able to say 'no' to a lot of things than to have to do it all over again starting small from an underground perspective," he adds. Mau P.Tommy Reerink Mau P's success is emblematic of a cultural recalibration, one that seeks to honor the rich history of house music for loyalists while propelling it forward through a modernized lens for the next generation of producers. In his unique position at the intersection of these worlds, he is both a beneficiary and a catalyst of that shift, appealing to a desire for authenticity and depth that the dance music community has been yearning to revisit. "The most interesting thing for me, ever since I started doing Mau P, is that the genres and sub-genre borders in-between have faded away," Westveen says. "I feel like a lot of people don't know what to label songs anymore." The blurring of stylistic lines is an indication of a broader evolution. And it's in this melting pot of genres that he finds rhythm with an audience who is increasingly indifferent to labels, yet deeply connected to the essence of what makes dance music resonate across generations. This ethos extends into Mau P's live performances, the arena where he truly shines in sharing his passion and unique vision for the future of underground dance music. He says that despite initial expectations for him to deliver a set of Beatport Top 100 hits, his true determination lies in showcasing the unheard. It's here, amidst the energy of the crowd, that he thrives in his craft, educating and elevating audiences with sounds that defy conventional categorization. Fortunately, he's earned increasingly more visible opportunities to do exactly that. Mau P was recently booked to perform at Coachella's ambitious new stage, Quasar, marking another milestone in his broiling career. He also just announced the largest outing yet in his "Baddest Behaviour" party series at Brooklyn's Under The K Bridge Park, where a marathon open-to-close set promises an unforgettable experience for nearly 7,500 attendees. Tickets to the show, which is scheduled for September 13th, are on sale now. View the original article to see embedded media. How the 2024 Envision Festival Empowered Attendees to Fully Feel
And just like that, the 12th edition of Envision Festival has come and gone. One month ago, thousands of like-minded individuals from around the world gathered deep in the jungles of Costa Rica to surrender to a weeklong, immersive experience like no other. Disconnected from modern-day luxuries, Envision is an opportunity to detach from day-to-day life and flow through a robust programming of music, education, movement and more amongst a vibrant community—to help you reconnect to your natural essence. And what better place to connect to your most natural self than immersed in nature, itself? A bird's-eye view of the beach, just outside of Envision Festival.Matt Gucci 2024 was the second edition of the festival after its extension to a full week, and it appears to be going well. By adding the extra days at the beginning, attendees have plenty of time to both acclimate and integrate into the experience. Additionally, the gift of time ensures there's more of a flow throughout the week. You can opt to partake in daytime workshops and yoga classes for the first half, for example, and then gradually transition and utilize your energy on the dancefloor as the weekend sets in. There is no right or wrong way to do Envision Festival—it's very much so a choose-your-own-adventure experience. If you go with the intention to grow and foster meaningful connections, perhaps you'll choose to attend more workshops and classes in the day. If you wish to catch sets from all of your favorite DJs, then you'll most likely be a creature of the night. Moontricks performing at the Sol Stage during Envision Festival 2024.Eric Allen Speaking of, this year's Envision lineup was arguably one of the best ones yet with the return of trap luminary TroyBoi, electro-soul tastemaker Daily Bread and beloved beatsmith The Polish Ambassador, among others. Notable performances came courtesy of Elderbrook, who performed a stunning club set; Father Funk, who took Envisionaries by surprise; Elephant Heart, who engaged the crowd with an energetic show; and a scintillating set from Dreamers Delight. And let's not forget, an impressive performance from local rising star La Virgen. La Virgen performing at the Lapa Stage during Envision Festival 2024.Michael Murray While you can push yourself and do it all, the heat and humidity really takes its toll. It's crucial to ensure that you're getting sufficient food, water and rest each day—or every other day, at least—as it's easy to get run down. One thing worth mentioning is how many people had an adverse reaction this year. While the cause is still unknown, speculation around a contaminated water supply or an emergence of the Norovirus was rampant. For now, it's important to note that while many staff and attendees became ill, most cases were clear in a matter of days. It's an ongoing challenge to keep up with hydration throughout the festival as many themselves constantly sweating, even when standing still. Trust us, you get used to it. However, implementing a dedicated, 24/7 water vendor would be a welcome addition to Envision in the years ahead. There are currently stations onsite but their water is from a tap, and water is also available for purchase at the bar but all the bars close at 2am. Access to clean, filtered, mineralized water—especially for international travelers—is of the utmost importance at a festival like this one, where attendees are extremely active throughout the day and night in extremely hot weather. Fire performers at the Luna Stage at Envision Festival 2024.Atlas Media, LLC All things considered, Envision Festival's 2024 edition empowered attendees to fully feel. It seemed to be a consensus that this was an emotionally charged year—a time of healing by way of feeling the full spectrum of emotions. We laughed. We cried. We were in Costa Rica riding the waves—literal waves, heat waves and waves of emotions. Ultimately, Envision was a reminder that how you choose to show up in the world matters. As mentioned last year, "each and every one of us plays a vital role in the wellbeing of the collective." Allowing yourself to surrender to the present moment is such a gift not only to yourself, but also those around you. Being present in the now allows space for you to move through life with ease, rather than rushing through it or suppressing its unpleasantries. In Conversation With goddard.
Ice baths in the garden, BRIT Award nominations, green juices that taste like mud, platinum records. The life of goddard. is both extraordinary and completely normal all in the same breath. Hailing from the midlands, goddard. has been a key player in one of D&B’s biggest commercial peaks. His love for collaborating with both up and coming artists and artists from other genres has set him aside, with collaborations with Greentea Peng, Cat Burns and Venbee piquing interests globally. Fans will be happy to hear his label and event brand rabbit hole. are on the horizon too, and with his recent signing to Atlantic Records also being thrown into the mix, slowing down is completely off the agenda. Zooming in from an Airbnb in the UK countryside before jetting off to sunny America for his first US tour, goddard. joins us to talk rabbit hole., his incoming release on UKF and so much more. You’ve had an incredibly busy year so far, how’s it been for you? Yeah I’ve been super busy this year. It’s been good. The Brit Awards were a bit crazy, but a cool experience. I was really happy to get ‘Wasted Youth’ with Cat Burns out this year too. It was my first release with Atlantic so it was nice to get that out into the world. I have ‘Drowning Mind’ out on UKF incoming after that and then my EP to follow. Lots going on. ‘Messy In Heaven’ went platinum this year too. Is this something you envisioned happening? Absolutely not! I didn’t even think ‘Messy in Heaven’ was going to get radio play because of the lyrics. That was a big surprise. When we first started to work on it I thought ‘this probably won’t get any radio play, but that’s ok’ and then it was all over the radio. I didn’t expect it at all. We’re really fortunate because with that happening, we’ve been able to go around the world, from New Zealand and Australia to America, and play drum & bass to people. It’s really cool. It was definitely the catalyst for everything that followed. The ‘Go’ remix gave me my first headline tour and then when ‘Messy in Heaven’ did what it did, it really took off and bookings came flying in. Talk to us about ‘Drowning Mind’ incoming on UKF! UKF approached me and asked if I wanted to make a track. I asked if they had any vocals I could check out. They sent me a few but Billy Lockett’s really jumped out at me. I was immediately drawn to the passion and the power that you can hear in his voice and when I heard the chorus, I thought it was a really anthemic moment. I started working on it straight away, and got a demo together straight away. Billy loved it. We had a bit of a back and forth. Billy went from giving me one vocal stem to him sending me 15, so there was a lot to play with. I really wanted to try and use all of it. A few days later, it was finished. I gave it a test on the road, it went down well and yeah, it was ready to go! Beau from Ten Eight Seven Mastering smashed the mastering on that one. It was meant to be. Big up Beau too. You were discovering D&B when UKF was launched back in 2010. What does it mean for you to release on UKF? It’s unbelievable. When I was at college, we used to stay in the classroom at lunch and I would always put UKF on. That was my encyclopaedia to the world of drum & bass. I had already started dabbling with RAM Records, Hospitality and Playaz, but with UKF, they were showcasing such a vast amount of music. They showed me drum & bass acts all over the world, and they still do! You’re now signed to Atlantic. Was being signed to a major label always a goal of yours? How has the process been? Well, it was a long process. I didn’t want to sign to a major unless I could work with both younger drum & bass artists and create a network to put out music for them and myself. That was one of the main things that I considered. Am I going to go down the road of signing to a major label? The answer is yes, but only if I can also release on independent labels like UKF and my label, rabbit hole., which is very, very nearly launched… Exciting! You’ll be running rabbit hole. events too, right? Yeah definitely. Before I started to produce, I wanted to put on events and work in events. I actually had an events company. We’d create art installations and stage design for other festivals. My whole goal for that was that once we’d built enough installations through other jobs and we have a collection of all this art, we’d create our own little festival and grow it from there. There is still an essence of that with rabbit hole. My dream is to one day put on a festival and to have it so it’s very much built around the production and the experience as a whole. It’s great having a big lineup, don’t get me wrong, but for me personally, I’d rather have a smaller venue or festival that really goes in on the immersive experience. Which is what I want to do with rabbit hole. Those sort of experiences really do thicken the memory. I want to build a community and a family. It’s very easy to become disassociated sometimes because we’re always on social media so these things are important to me. Absolutely. How have you found having social media as an artist? Initially I found it difficult. Mainly because if you’re promoting a business or a brand, you want to translate a positive attitude, but as human beings, we are always going to have down days. I’ve learnt to limit my time on social media over the last 12 months because I’m an overthinker. Sometimes when I spend too much time on social media, I can spiral a little bit. I find it hard. I try to limit the time I spend looking at my screen. I like looking at what people are doing but I also need to remain conscious of how much time I’m spending on there. There is a certain level of mental resilience needed when using your phone. Pressures like this are why I do ice baths now, because it helps with brain fog and over thinking. When I get in a scatty state of mind and I’m not really getting the job done, I’ll get in an ice bath and it’ll reset my mind. The worst part is getting in. Your breathing intensifies, it’s ok, when you get out you get a flood of dopamine, it’s great. Those ice baths look horrendous and amazing all at the same time! Is there anything else you do for your mental health? For me personally, I need routine. I try to eat healthily and go to the gym, more for mental clarity. I’m not fussed physique wise, it’s more to keep the head clear. Keep the negative nancies out of my brain. So, gym, ice baths, trying to eat healthily too. I even started drinking these green things that taste terrible! They taste like the earth. The thing is, when you’re on the road, the only thing open at 3am is McDonalds. But when you’re only eating fast food, you start to really feel it in yourself. You feel lethargic, you feel tired. You don’t feel sociable because you have no goodness in your body. The last 18 months has been a massive learning curve in that respect, if you want to feel good, you need to put good stuff in your body. It helps no end.

All the billboards on the Road to Coachella 2024
If you’re making the journey to the desert for Coachella 2024, get ready to be blasted by a barrage of eye-catching billboards lining Interstate 10. The roughly 50-mile stretch of highway from Riverside to Indio has become a prime advertising battleground as brands and artists aim to capture the attention of festivalgoers before they even arrive. This year, the billboards are showcasing an eclectic mix of acts from Coachella‘s lineup. British grime pioneer Skepta has a major presence, no doubt promoting his eagerly anticipated new album. Rising Nigerian singer Tems will also be ubiquitous, coming off her breakthrough success in 2023. Expect to see plenty of posters hyping Sabrina Carpenter, BLXST, Peso Pluma, and K-pop sensations LE SSERAFIM as you cruise toward Indio. The electronic dance music world is represented too, with billboards for veterans like Steve Angello and genre-mashers Purple Disco Machine. Even record labels are getting in on the action, with RCA using the I-10 to push some of their emerging artists. The Coachella billboard blitz has become an event in itself over the last several years. Brands and musicians know the audience of trendsetting festivalgoers is a valuable one to market to directly. And what better way to make an impression than with bold, eye-catching visuals as they’re en route and eagerly anticipating the festival? Sam Keywanfar, CEO of MilkMoney which provides content for many of the billboards, emphasized the importance of this targeted advertising. “The festivalgoer is a very hard-to-reach demographic — the tastemakers, the trend-setters, the content creators, the most coveted demographic,” he said. “We’re getting them in the early part of the journey.” In addition to billboards from specific artists, you’ll likely see some artistic, cryptic advertisements from brands trying to make a splash. Prior years have featured bizarre slogans and visuals meant to go viral and get people talking. The Coachella billboards have become as synonymous with the festival experience as flower crowns and surprise guest appearances. CircoLoco Reveals Monumental 25th Anniversary Ibiza Lineup
If the walls of DC-10 could talk, they’d tell tales more salacious than the wildest club night stories. Hushed whispers of fashionistas and rock stars losing themselves on the dance floor. Secret after-party lore spreading like wildfire through the White Isle’s clubs. Chance encounters sparking iconic brand partnerships and album collaborations. For 25 years, the CircoLoco party has been the beating heart of Ibiza’s underground scene and a bastion for the most influential figures in dance music culture. What started as a free, morning after-hours event at the infamously grotty DC-10 has exploded into a globally renowned institution. Its famous Mondays have become a rite of passage and safe space for generations of ravers and artists to let loose without inhibition. The 25th-anniversary lineup in Ibiza On April 29th, CircoLoco will kick off its landmark 25th anniversary season on the island, celebrating its unique power to unite scenes and minds from every corner of the world. The lineup reflects the party’s transcendent spirit, a multi-generational mix of dance music’s most vital voices and forward-thinkers. Of course, you’ll find all the CircoLoco heroes returning to their spiritual home. Legends like Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Loco Dice, Tale of Us, and Luciano have become inextricably linked to the party’s legacy over the decades. But the program takes thrilling turns into uncharted territory as well. Rising stars like Bambounou, Aurora Halal, and VTSS will bring experimental electronics into the sweat-drenched DC-10 atmosphere. Even pop renegades Grimes and Romy from The xx will make rare Ibiza appearances. CircoLoco has never just been about headliners though. It’s a tight-knit community, a chosen family of like-minded artists and diehard revelers. As such, the resident DJs who have grown up within those hallowed stone walls are just as vital to the experience. Chloe Caillet, Rampa, and Mochakk – they’ve transformed from fresh-faced ravers into icons before our eyes. Theirs are the hands that keep those infamous parties going until dawn … and well beyond. CircoLoco Soul is not just a party, is a whole lifestyle Circoloco Records Chloé Caillet Even from its earliest days, CircoLoco has held an undeniable allure beyond just the music realm. It’s a place where the worlds of fashion, celebrity, art, and entertainment ecstatically collide with dance culture. Ricardo Tisci heard the Martinez Brothers at DC-10 before making them the soundtrack of Givenchy’s shows for years. Virgil Abloh was inspired to design an Off-White capsule with the party’s avant-garde spirit. It’s the kind of interdisciplinary cultural exchange that can only happen in a space as mythical and forward-thinking as CircoLoco. From founder Antonio Carbonaro’s free morning party roots to international tours, brand partnerships, and even its own record label, CircoLoco has become a verifiable lifestyle. Yet at its core, the party remains a gritty, no-frills celebration of the underground’s most brilliant minds and the pursuit of transcendent dance floor experiences. So while the two-and-a-half decade milestone inevitably sparks nostalgia, CircoLoco’s 25th season proves its countercultural spirit remains as vital as ever. When those DC-10 doors open again on April 29th, the island’s biggest annual family reunion begins anew. And you’d better be there. The full 2024, 25th-Anniversary CircoLoco lineup at DC-10 Ibiza includes &ME, Acid Pauli, Adam Port, Adam Ten, Adriatique, Afriqua, Ageless, Ahmed Spins, Amaliah, Âme, Âme live, Anyma, ANOTR, Antal, Anz, Apollonia, Arabic Piano, Arapu, Aurora Halal, Audrey Danza, Axel Boman, Bambounou, Bedouin, Beltran, Ben UFO, Black Coffee, The Blessed Madonna, Blond:ish, Bradley Zero, Butch, Call Super, Carl Craig, Carlita, Cezar, Chaos in the CBD, Chloé, Chloé Caillet, Chris Stussy, Christian AB, Cici, Cirillo, Clara 3000, Cristi Cons, Curses, Damian Lazarus, Daniel Avery, Dan Andrei, Dan Ghenacia, David Squillace, Denis Sulta, Dennis Cruz, Demi Riquísimo, DESIREE, Disclosure, Dixon, DJ Holographic, Dj Koze, DJ Lag, DJ Seinfeld, DJ Tennis, Dyed Soundorom, Eliza Rose, Enoo Napa, Enzo Siragusa, Francesco del Garda, Gene On Earth, Gerd Janson, Golfos, Grimes, Henrik Schwarz, Hiver, Honey Dijon, Hunee, I. World Record for DJing a Marathon Being Attempted by Entrepreneur
Gus Fraser is taking on quite the challenge – to set the Guinness World Record of “Fastest Marathon while DJing.” Fraser will attempt to run the London Marathon on April 12th and has a goal of raising £100,000 for Cancer Research UK. Preparing for this record attempt has been no small task. Fraser has spent six months in negotiations with the Guinness World Records, working out the specific terms and conditions. The rules stipulate that he must complete the marathon in under five hours while DJing – a “tough” challenge, according to Fraser, as his DJ kit weighs a substantial 8kg. Despite the added weight, Fraser remains optimistic that the music will provide him with the necessary motivation. “I am going to play a few crowd-pleasers,” he told ITV. The entire DJ set and marathon will be documented on video, and the track list will be submitted afterwards. Video interview from @itvchanneltv The Inspiration for a World Record Attempt This endeavor holds deep personal significance for Fraser, as he aims to complete the marathon in memory of his father, who passed away from pancreatic cancer. Fraser describes the quest as his “personal crusade against cancer,” fueled by witnessing more loved ones suffer from the disease. Fraser’s determination to take on this unconventional challenge stems from his desire to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer. While he has completed Iron Man and cycling challenges, he felt compelled to do something truly unique for the cause, stating, “A regular marathon wouldn’t be enough.” As the world awaits the outcome of this Guinness World Record for DJing attempt, Gus Fraser’s determination to honor his father’s memory and support the fight against cancer serves as an inspiration to all. Perfecto Turns 30 – Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox Drop First-Ever Collab
Two titans of electronic music, Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox, have joined forces on a new banger called “Concentrate.” The track marks their first-ever collaboration and kicks off the year-long 30th anniversary celebration for Oakenfold’s iconic Perfecto label. Oakenfold and Cox have been friends and frequent touring partners since the early 90s heyday of raves and clubs. Cox was even signed to Perfecto back in the day. Though they’ve shared stages all over the world, including the historic Stonehenge performance in 2018, the two scene legends had surprisingly never worked on a track together until now. “Concentrate” seamlessly blends their unique styles into an exhilarating slice of techno showcasing cutting-edge sounds and infectious rhythms. As Oakenfold puts it, “It’s our way of paying homage to our history and showing where we’re at musically right now.” For his part, Cox adds “Working with Paul on this was a blast. The track represents the perfect synergy between our styles.” The single kicks off Perfecto 30 – a huge milestone celebration for the iconic dance label that will include special releases, remixes, collaborations, live events, and even a documentary called Welcome to Perfecto. Oakenfold himself will tour internationally revisiting classics like “Starry Eyed Surprise” while also shining a light on the label’s latest offerings from artists like Velvet Cash, Danny Stubbs, Blink, Adam White and Nat Monday. From its beginnings helping launch the careers of artists like Hernán Cattáneo, Mark Ronson, and David Guetta, to bringing underground sounds to the mainstream, Perfecto has touched nearly every dance movement across its various imprints. As Oakenfold looks to the label’s future, he’s going back to its roots: “I’m returning to doing straight club records – underground tracks that I really love. Perfecto is now 30 years old – there are generations that have grown up with the sound, gotten into dance music and collected our vinyl from the start. It’s turned into more than just a label. So to celebrate that spirit, I’m going to do what I do best and really love – go out in a blaze of glory for my last dance.” The post Perfecto Turns 30 – Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox Drop First-Ever Collab appeared first on The Groove Cartel.
