RÜFÜS DU SOL release live version ‘On My Knees’ from The Gorge [Watch Now]
Yesterday, RÜFÜS DU SOL capped off their most ambitious year yet with the release of the live version of Grammy-nominated single “On My Knees” captured from their sold out performance at The Gorge Amphitheatre in October. As a live-performing band, RÜFÜS has the privilege of improvising, riffing, and augmenting their recorded tracks for the live setting, much like an artist who uses live analog equipment or modular synths in their performance. The live version is a full two-and-a-half minutes longer than the recorded release, with an extended drum outro that proves to significantly increase the “vibey-ness” of the song. This release acts as a celebration of the band’s double 2023 Grammy nomination of “On My Knees” as Best Dance / Electronic Recording, a category that earned them their first Grammy win earlier this year, and their ‘Surrender’ album for Best Dance / Electronic Album. This follows the band’s fifth ARIA win for Best Produced Album last month. Primed for the next chapter of the RÜFÜS journey, the group looks forward to working on new music at the turn of the year before returning to their own boutique festival, Sundream, debuting at a new location this coming May in San José del Cabo, Mexico. Deadmau5, Porter Robinson, & more headline debut Jackpot NYE in Las Vegas [Interview + Giveaway]
If you’re still struggling to figure out what to do for New Year’s Eve, Las Vegas has a brand new option for you to sink your teeth into. Since its inception in 2012, RVLTN has always prioritized giving visibility to emerging artists on the rise – with the intention of continuing to pipeline them into larger opportunities. Over the years RVLTN has helped nurture and expand the local following for a great many electronic acts, who have transitioned from opening tour support to main stage headliner. As a top competitor in the Vegas market, RVLTN seeks to exceed branding expectations when in competition with larger conglomerates in the same or neighboring markets. Taking place on December 30-31, the inaugural two-day event JACKPOT NYE will be hosted at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. The lineup’s heavy-hitters include Deadmau5, Porter Robinson, Rezz, and RL Grime, with additional performances from Black Tiger Sex Machine, Ghostrydr (Ghastly b2b Joyryde), Marauda, Versa + more. To celebrate this new festival, we’re giving one lucky winner two VIP tickets to Jackpot NYE as well as a meet & greet with Black Tiger Sex Machine and a merch bundle, including items from BTSM’s own collection. Tickets for JACKPOT NYE 2023 are available now and can be purchased here. Ahead of the event, we spoke with Marcel Correa, Chief Executive Officer of RVLTN, and Joe Borusiewicz, Partner & Executive Talent Buyer, about what makes their event special in a town that’s so characterized by larger-than-life events and some of the biggest EDM artists in the world year-round. We know Las Vegas is a year-round destination for events, live music, performances, or otherwise. A lot of the major traffic seems to come during the summer months for obvious reasons. When choosing a destination, why should people think of Las Vegas? (Marcel) As an entertainment destination Las Vegas is truly in a class of its own. Whatever you’re into can be found here 24/7/365. It hasn’t always been that way for every genre of music though. Over the last decade plus we’ve been fully dedicated to ensuring that all genres of electronic music have a seat at the table and get pushed forward inside of this community. Locals feel the need to travel a lot less frequently to experience their favorite artists since the inception of RVLTN. (Joe) While you could argue every weekend in Vegas is a party weekend, New Year’s really takes it to a whole other level. You have hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world converging on the city at once and there’s definitely no shortage of entertainment offerings. In adding Jackpot to the fold our aim is to give the city a proper destination event, something significant enough to hold its own in a hypercompetitive space and have the potential to become an annual tradition for travelers and locals alike. RVLTN has been active in Las Vegas for a decade, set apart from the glitz and glamor of the major hotel properties like Omnia, Hakkasan, and Zouk. With a certain degree of legacy in the city, what are you offering fans that they wouldn’t find in a hotel lobby closer to their room and buffets and slot machines? (Marcel) We’ve always taken pride in providing an alternative to the typical nightclub experience on The Strip. In our world there are no dress codes, no velvet ropes, and no overzealous doormen that seem to enjoy hassling your group and looking for a way to deny your entry. You don’t need an even ratio of girls to guys, you don’t need to arrive before a certain hour, and you don’t need to break the bank to attend. The nightclubs thrive on promoting a sense of exclusivity, whereas our events are extremely inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcomed. It’s a complete different vibe and atmosphere, although we have created VIP options for those who prefer an elevated experience. Las Vegas has so much to offer beyond the Strip. Jackpot NYE is a great example. (Joe) With Jackpot specifically, no other event in the city this New Year’s weekend delivers more bang for the buck from a programming perspective. Instead of one artist and one sound you get fourteen world-class performers over two nights. Whether you prefer dubstep, big room, future bass or house music with a Latin twist, you’ll find something on this lineup that you get down with. The headliners for Jackpot NYE are easily top tier in any market, with deadmau5, Porter Robinson, Rezz, and RL Grime making appearances over the course of the weekend. Was there any sort of haggling behind the scenes to convince them to play Vegas rather than some other event elsewhere? (Joe) Honestly, not as much as you might think. We had a clear vision of what we wanted Jackpot to be in terms of the caliber of the lineup, the unapologetically Vegas-inspired branding, and the overall experience itself. We pitched the concept to the artist teams and thankfully most of our first choices were completely game for it. Some of this year’s acts play the local nightclub circuit on a regular basis. The opportunity to be a part of something like Jackpot, I think, is more unique. (Marcel) Las Vegas has always lacked 18+ offerings on NYE weekend. Over the years we’ve watched friends travel out of state, make plans to wander the Strip, attend a house party, or just watch the countdown from home after dinner. It made a lot of sense for us to step up and try to provide an experience for locals and tourists alike. This is our favorite lineup to date and it lands on the biggest party weekend of the year, in the biggest entertainment destination in the country. Everyone who attends Jackpot NYE is in for a major surprise as we’re going all out for this one. Do you see a type of synergy with the casino-based nightclubs as far as bringing new people to the city? Located off the strip, RVLTN definitely gives travelers and attendees a much different view of the city than what is typically popularized in media. (Marcel) It’s true, and as you might expect our approach to marketing our events and attracting new attendees is also much different than the strategies of the nightlife industry. The vast majority of the RVLTN team are Vegas locals. We grew up here, went to school here, and we love this city. It’s much different than out-of-towners looking to capitalize on the community. Everything we do is designed to grow the scene and the local community while finding creative ways to attract new people from around the world to experience our events. (Joe) I think the casino clubs and moreover the Strip as a whole wins by selling the stereotypical image of what Las Vegas has to offer, whereas we win by selling the alternative: that there’s much more to the local landscape than you can find on Las Vegas Blvd. Our marketing model is somewhat of an inside-out approach; we believe that by delivering for the local community and producing a strong portfolio of offerings throughout the year, our events become where locals bring their friends. Nothing beats word-of-mouth. Apart from the debut of your first NYE festival, is there anything else that RVLTN is looking to innovate in 2023? (Marcel) 2023 is shaping up to be RVLTN’s biggest year to date. Some things to expect are more large-scale events, new branded experiences, expansion into new markets, and larger shows from our entire family of brands. Alan Walker Talks Making His Best Music, Conquering the Stage, Vlogging and More [Interview]
Earlier this month superstar DJ/producer Alan Walker played two sold out nights at the world famous Hollywood Palladium; the penultimate shows on his Walkerverse world tour. The famously masked and hooded Walker played out a bevy of his hit tracks including “Alone,” “Spectre,” “Darkside,” his Hans Zimmer remix “Time” and of course, “Faded.” However, we got the chance to sit down and talk to Alan Walker unmasked before his show. Although his identity is no longer a secret (you can see Alan sans his mask and hoodie on his Unmasked vlogs on YouTube), our chat was a very insightful look into a truly thoughtful person who’s doing a lot of good things for the world at large. On top of that, it’s also very clear that Alan is very comfortable in his own skin and is proud of the progress he’s made as an artist. Simply put, he knows what works for him, and he plays to his strengths. We discussed his evolution as an artist, his vlogging, the tour, and a few other topics. Check out the full interview below. Hey Alan! Thanks so much for chatting with us. Tell us about how your year went? This was finally the first year that people were able to go back out again normally and I feel like lots of artists took advantage of it. How’s the Walkerverse tour been so far? “Yeah, like you said, everybody’s literally out traveling, everybody’s touring, so, obviously it’s a big competition. But, we see the Walkerverse tour as our own thing, and it’s been quite a successful run. We had amazing shows in South Korea, India and to kick it off with in Dubai, as well. And then we moved it up to Europe, had a bunch of crazy shows all around, and now we’ve been on the North America end. Then we have one quick pit stop in Mexico at a festival. So, it’s definitely been busy over the past three months, but it’s been really, really fun. And, also to do our own headline show has been so unique, and also to build a show the way that we’ve done it for the tour and at this scale has definitely been a fun experience.” What’s different, like you said, when you’re building your own tour, as opposed to, you show up at EDC or something, and you just play your set and boom, you’re out of there? “So, for example, at a festival show, then I would focus more on energy. Obviously, I would do that too on my normal headline shows, but, it’s different. I would really focus on like, okay, this is going to be a party. Play hard remixes of my songs and also play just a fun dosage of chronicles for the Walker story. The focus has been to primarily just focus on the fans, and build this show surrounding that, that we want to please the fans and play like the top 20-top 25 Alan Walker songs and bring out some guest vocalists.” I think it’s been 7 years since Faded was released. Tell us about how you’ve grown as a producer and an artist over the years. How is the growth reflected in the Walkerverse album? “So, kicking off with Faded, I was still kind of in fresh waters around back then. I’d say like learning, exploring, what would be the sound of Alan Walker. And over the years I’ve learned a lot of new techniques and I’ve learned so many things while working with other people and producers and songwriters. So, it’s been such a fun and eventful seven years, and it’s crazy to think it’s been seven years, because time has literally flown so fast for me. I’ve done so many different songs and so many different concerts and all that’s always been incredible. But, to kind of take the signature Alan Walker sound and really develop it and to make it more pop-ish, try to meet new audiences and it’s definitely a learning curve. Everything is always a learning curve, you’ve got to try and see if you succeed or fail and then it’s a lot of baby steps. But, with the Walkerverse album, I felt like I was able to just put together what I love to do the most. Like finding influence in movie soundtracks and all that. I’m just making things that I generally like.” Your mask and hoodie have always been one of your trademarks. However, I’ve noticed that lately you’ve posted photos and videos showing your face and your hair. What made you decide to take off the mask and show the world who you are? “So, we were thinking about it, because for a very long time, the idea was that we don’t want to show off Walker’s identity at all, as I’m literally talking about myself in third person (laughing). But, yeah, like the sole intent was that we still wanted to build this mysterious image, like, have people wonder ‘who is really the guy behind the mask and why?’ And I would pose only from the back and have people ask why does he only show his back, for example. And, that was solely with the intention that I wanted people to focus on the music rather than me as a person. And, I think over the years more and more people would get more familiar with my face, because I wasn’t that serious about keeping it off social media. If people wanted photos, I would be fine with taking them. But, an idea that we could break it or make it for the fans that would know, we created the Unmasked vlogs which was the idea that we would take the viewers, the fans, the followers behind the scenes and give them the experience, what is it like to be a touring artist. What do we do? I kinda wanted to show people the upside, but also the downside, like little sleep, a lot of travel, a lot of hard work and everything mixed in between and still trying to make the best out of it.” Have you always been comfortable on camera or is this something you grew into? “As ‘Faded’ blew up, I just got introduced to a whole new world of things. Like, I’d never really been on a proper stage before. And, performing for crowds larger than a classroom was unheard of. So, yeah, it was really, really scary, but it was just like grow and learn. And, the more I did, the more comfortable I became. I did have a lot of stage fright in the very beginning, but the more I did to just go out there on the stage, the more comfort I found in it. Because, sooner or later I just realized people didn’t really care about who was on stage, almost. And when I started to get that realization, it made me so much more comfortable if I could just believe that people don’t really care. Certain people do, but, as long as you don’t mess up really.” I think it’s really cool that you’ve advocated for environmentalism on your vlog as well. Tell us what are the things Alan Walker cares most about outside music, and how can you use your platform to make a difference. “So, speaking of 2019, we created A Different World campaign. That was solely with the intent of making an impact for the better of our world, and climate was the main focus. And, that’s something I still believe in today. That’s why when MrBeast did the Team Trees donation, I was one of the first people that jumped on and donated $100,000. And, then when he launched TeamSeas.org with Mark Rober, then I also donated $100,000 again. So, I’ve supported them for like two, three years in a row, because I believe what they’re doing is really good intentioned. And, over the years, I’ve liked to support different charities. Like, for example, just recently in Norway I’ve donated to mental health and children’s cancer charity funds. So, I do like to give back and support everyone who needs it.” I always like to ask this question to people who aren’t from Los Angeles. But, what makes this place special to you? What do you like the most about the city and the people? Any special places you like to visit when you’re here? “For me, it’s always been the music capital of America, so it’s always interesting to come here, because you always know someone who’s here. So, that’s always fun. There’s just a bunch of people you know from here. So, that’s what essentially LA has become for me, it’s like a hotwire to know people.” Any favorite food spots you like to visit when you’re here? “In-N-Out” Is there any artist in the EDM world who you’d like to work with that you haven’t yet? Any pop vocalists or artists you’d like to collab with? “I think Martin Garrix would be awesome. Or catching back up with Kygo could be interesting, we’ve previously worked on collabs before, but never finished anything. And Lady Gaga all day!” Can you tell us what we can expect from you in 2023 and beyond? “2023? Live, I have no idea, we’re still working on a plan on how we’re going to target next year. But, I think we’re going to still keep on building the Walkerverse tour for new markets. And, then, musically, probably going to continue down the same path. I also want to try and make like a classic Alan Walker album, kind of like what Martin Garrix did with his ‘Sentio’ album. Just go back to the roots, make some more of those instrumental tracks, that could be pretty cool.” Any words for the fans? “As always, thank you so much for the love and support this year. Yearly Spotify numbers were released, and, just seeing those numbers, it’s just so hard to digest and comprehend how big and how much love and support I get from people all over the world. I’m eternally grateful, I wish I could express my thankfulness to everybody.” Get lost inside Alan Walker’s Walkerverse, out now on Sony. Victrola’s home turntables Re-Spin and Revolution GO make for perfect holiday gifts
As music lovers, there are few things we enjoy more than sharing the music we enjoy with others. When I was growing up, this meant handing off the headphones I bought at Target, attached to my Walkman CD player, on the bus to the friend sitting next to me. Soon after, that evolved into the iPod earbuds so you could listen with a friend, and eventually I had a disposable income to purchase some decent home speakers in college and a friend could simply come into my room and listen off my laptop. When my parents were growing up, apart from happening to catch a specific single being played on the radio, they bought vinyl and invited friends over to listen to the newest single from the Rolling Stones or Elvis or The Beatles. (Yes, my parents are old.) In recent years, vinyl sales have seen a significant uptick — just last year, vinyl sales were up 94% in the first six months of 2021. And if you’re purchasing vinyl, you need a way to play it. The Victor Talking Machine Company was among the first to mass manufacture record players at the behest of Emile Berliner—inventor of the gramophone and disc record. Over the years, it was acquired by the Radio Corporation of America and subsequently operated as a subsidiary called RCA Victor. More than 110 years later, the legendary Victrola trademark has been revived in the US and is now owned by Innovative Technology, and it still sports the same attention to sound quality and design as it did over a century ago. New products like the Victrola Stream Carbon feature impeccable design and sound quality, while also keeping up with current technological innovations, sporting the ability to wirelessly connect with your home Sonos system for seamless audio playback. And while the price tag might cause some to take a step back (I own one, it’s worth it; it’s also $100 off right now), Victrola offers plenty of other options geared toward the casual listener and home consumer. The Victrola Revolution GO is the world’s first portable, rechargeable, Bluetooth record player providing listeners the ability to create music memories anywhere they call “home.” “What our team has accomplished with Revolution GO is to literally bring a vinyl listening experience to life in a way that has never existed before with an all-new design that reflects the evolution of the Victrola brand,” says Scott Hagen, CEO of Victrola. “We’ve always said our mission was to bring music memories to every home, and now Victrola offers the only truly portable turntable that will help create those memories at home, and at the beach, on a rooftop, in a campsite, or anywhere else. We are excited to see where listeners take their Revolution GO and who they share those experiences with.” In our experience using the Revolution GO, playback was virtually seamless after connecting with an external Bluetooth speaker. At the same time, sound quality will vary wildly depending on the quality of the speaker you choose. Thankfully, it also comes with the option for direct connection to headphones if you want to hear exactly what the artist intended. On-board speakers are available as a listening option, as well, though we found that the sound quality wasn’t always the greatest. The portability of the player is an incredibly unique and first-of-its-kind offering, though after taking it to a park just once, we realized we weren’t often going to make use of that capability. When everyone has a phone with Spotify or Apple Music, and basic Bluetooth speakers aren’t that expensive, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to carry around records and a full record player. As a novelty, it’s definitely a talking point, however, but don’t expect any passerby audiophiles to have their jaws dropped. The Revolution GO is currently available for $199.99. The Victrola Re-Spin was just released a few months ago and features the classic “suitcase” record player design, re-imagined and developed with eco-conscious vinyl fans in mind. Composed of more than 25% recycled materials through a highly efficient manufacturing process, the innovative Re-Spin combines sustainability and build quality in one compact record player. At times, the case can feel a little cheap or flimsy, but it was really only through stress-testing that this came across. If you have very young children or large animals, you’re already likely shopping with durability in mind, so you might lean toward the Revolution GO. If you’re looking for a set-piece at home, the Re-Spin offers a terrific bit of eye candy. At a lower price-point than the Revolution GO, sound quality is a bit less spectacular but the iconic design is much more suited to act as a statement piece in any home, especially as it comes in a variety of colors. The built-in Bluetooth speaker still lets any music fan experience the beauty of vinyl at a moment’s notice, as well. “Victrola is all about creating lifelong music memories, and that starts by seeking to improve everything we do everyday. When we decided to build our next version of a suitcase turntable, our team strived to make the best sounding suitcase turntable that has ever existed, and we also felt it was imperative to be even more environmentally conscious,” said Hagen. “With the Re-Spin Sustainable Suitcase Record Player, we significantly increased our use of recyclable, earth friendly components, while improving the sound quality even more in the way vinyl fans should expect from Victrola as they’re listening to their favorite music.” The Re-Spin is currently available in four colors for just $99.99. DJ Snake & Wade team up on remix of viral Nooran Sisters song “Patakha Guddi”
The Nooran Sisters wrote the song “Patakha Guddi” for the movie Highway in 2014 and it immediately topped the charts, earning them two of the Mirchi Music Awards in 2015, “Upcoming Female Vocalist Of The Year” and “Vocalist (Female) Of The Year,” as well as the Best Music Debut award of the Global Indian Music Academy Awards and the Best Female Playback Singer award of the Screen Awards. This year, a video of the sisters singing the song at the Punjabi Music Awards in 2015 went viral on TikTok and Instagram, with home producers remixing the infectious vocal beat en masse. It’s unclear how or why the seven-year-old clip suddenly reappeared on social media’s radar, but the instantly-catchy rhythm was a clear pipeline to viral success. Now, a few months later, DJ Snake and Wade have teamed up for an official remix of the original hit, though it’s labeled as a collaboration. “Guddi Riddim” follows the same construction as a couple other Snake hits, like “Magenta Riddim” and “Maradona Riddim,” as he infuses his songs with a bit of Indian flavor. To no one’s surprise, the same infectious rhythm and melodies carry over from the original into this new reinterpretation. Check it out below! Glen Trapz Bridges the Gap Between House Purists and Pop House
Too often there is a conflict that exists within the house world. On one hand, it is true that house is not like other genres – there is a trance-like state intended with the cycled through-grooves. However, the conflict arises when artists are forced to pick a side – either short snappy pop tracks with a dance beat or extended cuts, the sort of things that go well on past the seven-minute mark. Glen Trapz offers the best of both worlds – his tracks have that immersive experience and maintain the hook that runs through them. His work has a hot humidity to them. Despite his location in Toronto, Canada a lot of his work does have a summer jam spirit to it. That’s one of the best things about it. By seemingly representing all the optimism that dance music was founded on, he brings that old-school spirit back and presents his own twist on the classic atmosphere. Production for him matters a great deal. His touring schedule shows this off as well, for he’s gone everywhere from Mexico to Spain to South Africa. Only 23 it is obvious that there are a whole lot more countries out there for him. Already he’s even started expanding his palette, allowing for one of the most intensely physical of that house sound, that of UK garage. With his approach he manages to bring together a lot of different fans of the genre, much like Daft Punk introduced dance to the rock kids, Glen brings beats to the purists and pop-inclined alike. Arab Women find a voice at MDLBeast’s SoundStorm Music Festival
Emerging from their third year in Saudi Arabia, MDLBeast’s SoundStorm Music Festival has become a first event of its kind in the country and the self-described “loudest in the region.” With staggering 800,000 attendees it’s now the largest music festival in the world too, dwarfing world famous events like Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival and Belgium’s Tomorrowland by comparison. With bigger attendance numbers and broader international appeal, the festival is arguably more important to Saudi Arabia than Woodstock was for America in the ‘60s. Specifically for women in the Middle East, this is an important moment. For the first time in centuries Arab women are expressing themselves through dance, but that’s only the beginning. They can also help throw the party as a member of production or operations. They can even be a DJ headlining on one of SoundStorm’s seven stages. For young Arab girls, this may be the first time ever seeing such inspiring heroines and role models. Credit: PD Speaking with several such female powerhouses, Your EDM set out to learn more about the voice women are discovering in Saudi Arabia through the festival. We also wanted to glean a bit about how that voice is being received both within the country and on the international stage. What they had to say rocked our perception of the Arab world and encouraged us (in the West) to keep an eye on the event as it continues to impact the culture there. If the words from the women below are any indication, we may be witnessing a truly historic moment for Saudis. To hear it in their own words, read on! Photo by Fille Roelants Photography “I love how everyone was there attending for their favorite musician and that included many women like my friends Dorar, Kayan and Biirdperson and my personal favorite Eli & Fur, our Saudi ladies got to showcase to the world that they can rock the crowd better than anyone else and they had men and women supporting them and cheering for them in the audience.” – Cosmicat, Headliner at SoundStorm Photo via Julien Duval “In truth a majority of the industry is led by men wherever you are in the world, however women are increasingly taking on leadership roles in the sector both internationally and regionally. I’ve personally seen incredible growth and development of a very confident and ambitious local female workforce stepping up into critical positions.” – Angela Selkirk, Director Core Planning; Event Control, Health & Safety and Security Photo via Julien Duval “The love and connection [young Arab women] share with us even post-festival is something beautiful to experience and to be a part of… I feel happy and fortunate to witness such historical moments and to be part of the collective celebration. [It’s like] everything I’ve ever dreamt of as an artist I can manifest today.” – KAYAN, Headliner at SoundStorm Photo via Julien Duval “The music industry in the Kingdom is going through a historic transformation, and women will be at the forefront of this empowering evolution. The number of women I am seeing entering the Saudi music business is something we’ve never witnessed before – and this is just the beginning. It’s important to note that these opportunities don’t exist everywhere around the world but they do exist here and we as women are fully embracing them. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.” – Nada al-Helabi, Strategy Director at MDLBeast / Director of Programming at XP Music Feature This article was first published on Your EDM. Bensley joins We Are Friends 11 compilation with latest drum & bass single, “Never Enough”
Deadmau5’s mau5trap has historically championed variations of house and techno, but we know that the head honcho appreciates good music in any of its forms and often goes off the beaten path when there’s something worth highlighting. It’s not the first time that mau5trap has released drum & bass in its history, but Bensley is now the latest and also makes his debut on the label with his entry on the forthcoming We Are Friends 11 compilation due out next year. “Never Enough” is a luscious and heavenly taste of liquid drum & bass, par for the course for the accomplished producer. We could definitely ‘never’ get ‘enough’ of this single and we’re playing it on repeat until the full compilation drops. ISOxo presents ‘Nightrealm The Finale’ full set from Los Angeles
When I first saw ISOxo play in Los Angeles in late 2021 for his debut headline with Brownies & Lemonade, I was left feeling like he was the future. We’d already had him on our Artists To Watch in 2020 list published late 2019, but thanks to the pandemic, it was nearly two years later before I was able to actually see for myself the power he commanded from on-stage. Clearly, many people now have the same impression since ISOxo, and by association a lot of his contemporaries like Knock2 and FrostTop, have similarly risen the ranks of popularity and notoriety. Three weekends ago, ISOxo brought his Nightrealm era to an end with a double-header at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. I went the first night, which I erroneously thought was the first night they’d announced before they revealed a second date. Turns out, all the OGs went the second night — which was recorded, and then edited by ISO himself (below) — and it was an entirely different kind of party. One thing about ISOxo shows is that the energy is actually unmatched. I’ve been to hundreds if not thousands of shows since I became enamored with dance music in 2010, and I’ve never felt anything like the sweaty and spirited crowds that he attracts. Night 1 was still fantastic and when I left I had the same impression. But after seeing the live video from the second night, and how that feeling could be amplified even more, there’s no doubt in my mind that ISOxo is leading a new revolution in trap and bass. Check out the full video below and stay tuned for next year as he enters his next era — KIDSGONEMAD! Photo via @ericdrew This article was first published on Your EDM. I’m honored to have so many top-tier producers put their spin on my vision, it really means the world to me, and I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all of them. [INTERVIEW] Rising Star Isaac Palmer Opens Up About His Massive Year, What’s In Store For 2023, & His New Single W/ Amero & thmpsn “Walk It Off ft. Roshin”
One artist we are keeping our eye on for 2023 is the young and talented Isaac Palmer who has already proved he’s destined for greatness. Born with numerous medical challenges and undergoing countless surgeries, Isaac has gone through more than most, but he’s powered through it all, incredibly determined to share his love and passion for music with the world. He’s only 22 and has released on Maxximize/Spinnin’ Records with his widely praised collaboration with Tony Junior titled “Inception”. He’s even strutted his remix skills for Ty Dolla $ign and his pals, The Chainsmokers, that have lit up the airwaves and found their ways into DJ sets all over the world. Now, he’s back, teaming up with Amero, a Loudkult favorite who’s achieved millions of streams across his catalogue, and thmpsn, who has built a brand of millions of followers around his thrilling videos playing violin in exotic places, for their single “Walk It Off ft. Roshin“, signed to the esteemed LoudKult imprint. Featuring an energetic vocal from Roshin, these four created an electrifying tech house single that is entirely irresistible. Whether it’s the gritty bassline or swinging groove, everything comes together seamlessly to make this an essential peak time club track. We had the chance to speak with Isaac about the song, his accomplishments this year, and what’s on his plate for next year. Enjoy! Tell us how “Walk It Off” came together. I started this project over a year ago. I met Thmpsn in Vegas and I’ve known Amero for years so it’s cool to finally have a track out together. I felt super lucky that Roshin replied to my dm! I remember watching the Ultra Miami live stream and seeing Alesso play his song with Shaun Frank. I immediately wanted to work with him! He’s super talented! Big thanks to Loudkult for believing in the song! What was your biggest highlight of 2022? My biggest highlight of 2022 was definitely being able to play shows all summer in Europe. I got to experience how tour life is and that was very crazy! I can’t wait to hopefully do it next summer! Another huge highlight was being able to do a remix for The Chainsmokers! That was very special! What was something you learned in 2022 that you didn’t know before? I learned how to balance making music while having a heavy travel schedule all summer. I was able to travel with my best friends. It was a very busy schedule and I learned very quickly how to balance making music while doing shows and partying a lot. Big shoutout to my brother Tony Junior for bringing me along! Who are some artists really inspiring you right now? In what way are they inspiring you (branding, sound design, songwriting, etc)? I have many artists that are inspiring me right now. The Chainsmokers are a big one! They are putting out really creative music and are the same with their branding. Skrillex is another artist i’ve been really into lately. I’ve been listening to lots of his music and he is so experimental and I love that. I want to do more of that in 2023. What are some of your goals for 2023? My goals in 2023 are to release more original music and remixes than I ever have! I also want to play more shows than I did this year. I am striving for a specific stream number this coming year as well! I’m looking forward to the new year! I have lots of cool things I have been working on and I cannot wait to show everyone. Space Wizard Drops Bass Fueled, Intergalactic EP, ‘Cosmic Conjuring’
Since 2016, Mike Munnelly aka Space Wizard has been bringing a new and unbridled energy to the scene. Blending together the new and old styles of bass music, and combined with his unique sound design, has led to many powerful tracks that have been played by heavy hitters like Liquid Stranger, Subtronics, Shlump, Jantsen, Mersiv, and Atliens. He performed at the inaugural Wakaan Music Festival and even was direct support for DMVU and TVBOO on the nationwide “Eat My Sass Tour,” as well as having multiple headlining shows across the country. Now, he’s back with a thrilling 3-track EP titled ‘Cosmic Conjuring‘ that is a bass fueled, intergalactic experience into the fascinating world that Space Wizard creates. With each track, he offers his patented wonky, experimental beats that coincide with emotional compositions throughout an interstellar story. Here’s what he had to say about it: “Cosmic Conjuring is basically me turning a new page and going after a more aggressive sound while still keeping the things that make my art unique. I’ve worked really hard to separate this not only in vibe, but production quality as well from my previous releases. Aesthetics for the visual side were just as important with me making renders in unreal and working with John Pethick to create a unique EP cover. All in all, I’m super excited for this EP to be heard.” Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Space Wizard Drops Bass Fueled, Intergalactic EP, ‘Cosmic Conjuring’

Eight Men, including 1/2 of Breathe Carolina, Indicted for Securities Fraud Scheme
In a press release from the US Department of Justice published yesterday, eight men have been indicted for a $114 million securities fraud scheme orchestrated through social media, including Tom Cooperman, one half of the duo Breathe Carolina. According to the release, “A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Texas returned an indictment that was unsealed yesterday charging eight men with conspiracy to commit securities fraud for a long-running, social media-based ‘pump and dump’ scheme.” It continues, “According to court documents, [these men] allegedly engaged in a wide-ranging securities fraud conspiracy in which the defendants used their extensive social media presence on Twitter and Discord to hype interest in particular securities by posting false and misleading information in order to ‘pump’ the prices of those securities, while concealing their intent to later ‘dump’ their shares by selling them at the artificially inflated prices. From in or around January 2020 to in or around April 2022, the defendants profited at least approximately $114 million from their scheme.” “Financial crimes like securities fraud may not be violent, but they certainly are not victimless,” said Special Agent in Charge James Smith. “The eight individuals arrested today are accused of costing investors, specifically their social media followers who trusted them, millions of dollars by a ‘pump and dump’ market manipulation scheme they allegedly carried out on popular social media platforms. As the lead agency investigating corporate fraud, the FBI was able to uncover their alleged manipulative activity and expose their coordinated pattern of securities fraud.” The men used their apparent expertise in stocks and trades to allegedly manipulate their followers into buying stocks they were supposedly interested in as they dumped their own shares as the price rose thanks to the inflation. All defendants are charged with one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud. Cooperman specifically is charged with two counts of securities fraud. You can read the full indictment here. Photo Credit all images: Annie Forrest If you’ve ever lived in NYC in the past few years, there’s a chance you may have been familiar with the NYT critically acclaimed ‘Secret Loft’ series, an underground party that began in a refurbished Brooklyn auto garage. Spearheaded by longtime friends Alex Neuhausen and Lilly Wolfson, they build this event series to be regarded as something iconic within the Big Apple. Now, Alex & Lilly are embarking on a new journey, pouring three years of planning, fundraising and hard work into SILO: an immersive, carbon neutral, multi-genre music and event space built in a converted hangar in East Williamsburg, opening February 10, 2023. They’ve also announced a string of highly anticipated shows to kick things off, including the Nervous Records birthday party with Josh Wink & more on 2/24. Then, on 2/25, Eli Escobar will take over the decks for a special all nighter that is a can’t miss! Taking a peek at some of the pictures show’s just how cool of a space this is. Though a music venue at its core, SILO is more than just a club – it’s a dream in a tunnel, a place for people to experience a temporary suspension of reality. It’s engineered to draw your eye upward, with a ceiling that feels more like sky than an interior nightclub wall. Lilly shares, “We hired our friend and visual artist Yoshi to create a huge floor-to-ceiling wall mural. It took him months, he drew it by hand, then printed in high-res, then wheat-pasted the whole thing to our wall and shellacked it with gloss. Yoshi has interesting ideas, he has conviction and takes risks. I hope that people who come here sense that they’re in a place where creative risk-taking is possible.” SILO also offers quite the drink menu. Their mixologist Daniel shares, “our opening season cocktail menu features clever and delicious twists on popular classics and there will be themed cocktails paired with various events.” For example, their upcoming party CIRCE features hypnotic deep house tracks and mythical Greek vibes, and will be paired with the “Immortal Potion”, an entrancing fizzy cocktail – a twist on a spicy margarita topped with strawberries and champagne. No detail has been spared in the creation of SILO, with the founders giving the utmost care to the caliber of the artists, the physical design of the space, and sound quality. The club strives to promote gender equality and features community programming to make SILO a welcoming addition to its neighborhood. Alex adds “we want to be a home for a scene. We want to be the spot that 20 years from now, people say ‘I was there and saw so and so spin their first set in the front room of SILO.” SILO is sure to supply your new year with plenty of incredible shows and timeless memories. French duo il:lo Release Debut Vocal Single “Shifted ft. Fractures” & It’s Beautiful
Based in Germany and France, producer duo Dejan Dejado and Andreas Schültz met in Prague in 2010. Forming fast synergies, the coupling developed a collaborative flow that spawned their dynamic and sprawling electronic act: il:lo. In 2021 they did two striking performances for Anjunadeep Live in stunning locations showcasing their sound in Montpellier, and Canyon Du Diable. The pair also just completed a global tour, with plays at the iconic boutique Anjunadeep Explorations festival in Albania, and tour support for Parra For Cuva, Stimming, Janus Rasmussen, CloZee and Zimmer. Their most recent album Sloh has garnered over 10 million Spotify streams on Spotify and the duo have recently been added to rotation on Sirius XM Chill and received substantial play across curators at BBC Radio 1. It’s safe to say 2022 has been a landmark year for il:lo, and they are closing out the year with their infectious single “Shifted”, ft. Fractures. The single is their debut vocal collaboration, and the first of a striking string of new works we can look forward in the new year. “Shifted” is a beautifully captivating melodic house track that leaves a lasting impression, with Fractures’ haunting vocals intricately weaving emotion through the duration of il:lo’s production. Here’s what il:lo had to say about it: “This track marks our first collaboration with a singer. When Fractures sent us his lyrics, we wanted to highlight what he was singing about, an emotional instability that ends up being accentuated, shifted. Thus, his voice is accompanied by a rise in instrumental tension to lead to a more heavy and percussive radical change“. Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Joey Silver Drops Atmospheric and Emotional, ‘Never Leave’
The incurably optimistic Joey Stiver encourages everyone to take a listen to his latest track fittingly titled “Never Leave”. Pure positivity reigns supreme on the piece, neatly dovetailing it into his quickly growing discography. Another example of his “each project is different” philosophy, this one has a distinctly retro flair to it, though the lyrics hint at the contemporary longing for the past. Due to his refusal to be pigeonholed it is a delight to see his journey through so many different genres, and how effectively he captures the spirit of each one. Production, like usual, continues to have crystal clarity to it. Vocal treatment on the track adds to its glowing reassuring stance. With the fear of missing out that comes from the constant online addiction, Joey makes sure that the listener knows there is value in simply logging off and appreciating the world around them. “Never Leave” feels particularly timely, given the undue level of importance we all give to the online world when there’s a whole other world out there. Joey Stiver’s sound is pure sunshine and encourages the listener to seek some of that sunshine out. This article was first published on Your EDM.
