  1. MYTHM made his debut on Deadbeats last year on We Are Deadbeats Vol 5 with the lead single on the compilation, the dark and raucous “Murda.” Now, he’s back with his very own EP on the imprint that brings that dark and dingy dubstep style back to the forefront with Brutalist. Having only launched the project in 2019, MYTHM has a significant amount of hype behind him, especially with the new release on Deadbeats. “I’m excited to return to Deadbeats with my new 3 track EP entitled ‘Brutalist’. For my first release of 2023, I wanted to come out with a heavy-hitting EP for listeners and DJs to play out and enjoy. The title track ‘Brutalist’ has been a staple in my sets and has gained support from Zeds Dead, along with many other artists.” – MYTHM Check out the full EP below! 2. Compared to years past, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for the layman to keep up with all the coals that Skrillex has in the fire for 2023. Unless you’re deep in /r/skrillex and/or a member of his Discord, you’re probably just tuning in every Thursday or Friday for his newest track of the week. The reality is that he truly has so much music lined up that unless you’re 100% in, it’s easier to experience it all as it comes. That being said, among the many collaborations he has teased so far, including Missy Elliott & Mr. Oizo and ISOxo, he recently teased another with Anthony Green and Prentiss. Anthony Green is currently the lead singer for Circa Survive, Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and L.S. Dunes, while also maintaining a solo career. On the other end, Prentiss is a 16-year-old artist who’s been gaining loads of hype, boasting nearly a quarter million monthly listeners on Spotify. As for what to expect this week, fans suspect that “Baby Again” with Four Tet and Fred again.. is up next. 3. Beyoncé made history at last night’s GRAMMY Awards, taking home four awards including Best Dance/Electronic Recording and Best Dance/Electronic Album, bringing her total wins to 32 with 88 nominations. That makes her the currently most-awarded artist in GRAMMY history. Last night’s awards drew criticism (and applause, but mostly criticism) from the electronic dance music community for Beyoncé’s inclusion in the Dance/Electronic category, despite having never actively taken part in the culture over the years. Others nominated in the categories included Bonobo, Diplo, ODESZA, RÜFÜS DU SOL, and others, who have all been actively contributing to dance music culture for years or in some cases decades. Only two years ago, Kaytranada became the first-ever black artist to win in the Dance/Electronic category, and Beyoncé’s win last night makes her the second. During Black History Month, the win is made even more meaningful for that community. Plenty of artists weighed in on the results on Twitter, with responses ranging from the typical “the GRAMMYs are a joke” to pride, joy, and solidarity. This article was first published on Your EDM. 4. LA-based rising star ROSSY has announced the initial phase of her first-ever debut headline tour “HEAVENS DOOR” alongside dance music tastemakers Brownies & Lemonade, ahead of the release of her highly anticipated debut EP, Heavens Door, slated for release on HARD Recs. The tour comes hot off the heels of the success of her December 9 & 10 debut headline shows, also with the Brownies & Lemonade crew, at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles, CA. Both nights sold out in the first 24 hours following announce, firmly establishing ROSSY’s staying power as a force to be reckoned with. The HEAVENS DOOR tour starts off with a limited run of special west coast appearances spanning Seattle, Denver, and finishing up with ROSSY’s hometown of Sacramento, which has already praised her as their “hometown hero.” Around the new tour, ROSSY expresses: “I am so so so unbelievably excited to be going on my first headline tour. It has been an absolute dream of mine since I started making music to go on my own headline run and to be able to finally do that and close out in my hometown means, just wow this is so special to me.” ROSSY was named one of our artists to watch in 2020 and we’re so excited to watch her grow and succeed! 5. Like any millennial, I enjoy a good meme. “Can I get a hooyah???” may have gotten its start on Vine but the phrase has found its way into various mediums over the years, enjoying a few years of silence before it was resurrected on TikTok in 2021. Now, we see speed house queen CHYL use the meme to great effect in her new song, “Hooyah!” with Fahjah. (Is Fahjah itself also a reference to Goldmember? TBD.) Either way, the track absolutely rips. We named CHYL one of our Artists To Watch for 2023 and something like this absolutely reinforces our choice to keep a closer eye on the growing talent. “’Hooyah!’ is an energetic speed house song featuring a fun vocal sample,” CHYL said of the release. “Fahjah and I came across this idea while sending TikToks to one another, and eventually developed this idea into a full track. I’ve been playing this track out at shows and it’s incredible to see the crowd energy during the drop. It’s house music, but on steroids!” Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 6. Rezz’s HypnoVizion label is already off to a promising start since it was founded late last year. Her own ‘Nightmare on Rezz Street 2’ is essentially a gimme, as that would have been released on her own label regardless. That being said, resurrecting Isqa, teaming up with Quackson and Wreckno herself, and now releasing the first single from an upcoming EDDIE EP truly showcases the direction the label is going in. To EDDIE’s own credit, the young producer is talented as hell, we even acknowledged that when we included him in our Artists To Watch for 2020 at the end of 2019. There’s no time limit to when we watch these artists, but his success is no surprise regardless. The first single from his upcoming EP on HypnoVizion is “Incubator,” a classic midtempo tune with heavily distorted bass and those telltale heavy kicks. EDDIE spices things up with some subtle instrumentation and backing vocals, but this is really just a taste. “Incubator is the tastemaker to showcase my upcoming EP + who EDDIE really is in 2023 onwards. This one is all about dark driving rhythms that can make you feel like you’re in a dystopian reality,” EDDIE says regarding the release. Check it out below now! 7. Back in 2019, long before the pandemic was even a glimmer in the public’s collective eyes, Excision and Wooli teamed up for a collaborative EP called Evolution. Among the four tracks was “Lockdown,” the opening track of the EP. Now, a little over three years later, the two have joined forces again for the implicit sequel, “Titans.” “Titans” isn’t the first time they’ve worked together since “Lockdown,” but it’s a clear sequel that even shares some of the same samples (see 2:30). Overall, however, the two went way more bass house than dubstep with this release, and the result is a wildly bouncy and fun time that’s definitely been getting crowds hype as they’ve tested it out at live shows recently. 8. Photo credit Kenny McCracken As they gear up for their highly anticipated 10th LP, ‘Optical Delusion’, the legendary brotherly duo Orbital have released the final single before the album drop, titled “Are You Alive?“. It’s a mesmerizing collaboration with their studio mates Penelope Isles, who deliver a sensational vocal on top of a pensive, spellbinding backbeat that ensnares your imagination into an eight minute wonderland. “Are You Alive came about when I had the instrumental and felt it could do with a delicate vocal. Enter Penelope Isles! They took it away and Lily came up with some killer hooks, we spent a day rearranging the song and Hey Presto! Are You Alive was born. But don’t be fooled by the sweetness of the sound, the lyrics have some bite. It’s a dog-eat-dog world…” – Paul (Orbital) Few have the legacy that Orbital has, who have stayed at the top of their game longer than anyone from the post-1988 Class of Acid House. 9. Ordley is an Australian newcomer who is crafting his own unique blend of indie-dance/melodic-house music, reminiscent of the sounds of Fred Again, Duskus, The 1975, & Tourist. Over the last few months Ordley has been working on a collection of new music set to release over the next few months. His latest single of this collection, “we’re the last to leave,” is a euphoric, intoxicating experience. Backed by beautiful melodies and soft piano stabs, this song is all about finding the resilience to keep everything moving forward, no matter what life puts in your way. Here’s what Orderly had to say about it: “This is a song about conveying the tension from how we wish life would be and how it actually is, and the strains this can place on our romantic relationships as we find the resilience to keep going. I wrote and produced this song in one morning after hearing a news segment about young people’s employment still not recovering after the pandemic, and the anxiety this was bringing to them. This was all too close to home for me as an artist, and that emotion went straight into this record. Musically, it’s a fun, chill record. Fast and dancey. I think the percussion has a UK rave feel, keeping the momentum super high and the vocals are showcasing my fun and playful nature.” – Ordley Listen below! 12. DJ Horizon is one of the most popular R&B/Hip-Hop DJs in the challenging entertainment industry. You may be wondering why he is making headlines. Is he really a genius on the decks, or did he get lucky? In reality, both are true. His rising star was fueled by a growing list of festival performances and headlining sets at mainstream clubs in the US. DJ Horizon started his career at the tender age of 14, telling how passionate he is about what he does. However, getting into the entertainment industry at such a young age did have drawbacks. DJ Horizon says that the biggest challenge was bullying from the older generation of DJs. Another huge challenge was being trolled on social media for standing out and taking his brand, DJ Horizon, seriously. He recalls getting hate comments for taking press-shot photos and doing live videos in his bedroom. Nevertheless, that did not slow or stop DJ Horizon because he knew that he was destined for something great and that his skill and talent would one day be recognized and rewarded. This determination started paying off pretty soon. DJ Horizon became the first Hip-Hop DJ to get signed to Lucky Ent in Australia. DJ Horizon went on to be signed to Mushroom Group and became the face of Australia’s iconic RNB Fridays Live. Everything he wanted and dreamed of was now turning into reality. He reminisces about one of the biggest moments in his career, performing in front of 70,000 people in his home city of Melbourne, Australia (Marvel Stadium). DJ Horizon went from being a bedroom DJ to sipping whiskey with big names in RnB like Trey Songz and Usher. Soon after, he got signed to Skam Artist in America. He also supported other acts like Drake, Usher, Lil Uzi Vert, Playboy Carti, A$AP Rocky, Jason Derulo, and many more. With such accomplishments under his belt, it is easy to assume that he received recognition. DJ Horizon was recently named the most viral DJ on TikTok with over 40 million views. “Your future is based on every decision you make. Don’t hesitate to do it,” he says. In the last couple of years, DJ Horizon has travelled quite a lot. He has been playing in clubs and events worldwide and he says it is a great feeling to play music for people and see them dance. DJ Horizon wants to improve his skill and make more money. But that is not the only thing that he is looking at. He wants to positively impact his community, beginning from his hometown, and inspire younger DJs to chase their dreams. As far as where DJ Horizon sees his brand and himself in a few years, he reveals that he will be moving to Dubai in 2023 to further his career. This is a smart move, seeing as the city is known for being expensive, luxurious, and above all, an entertainment hub. However, that does not mean DJ Horizon won’t be back. He says that Australia will always be home for him. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Rise To Fame: DJ Horizons Incredible Journey
  13. Hailing from China, KROMI is a force to be reckoned with in the DJ world. With a background in classical training and a former career as a pop singer, KROMI is no stranger to the stage. She began her journey as a DJ in 2017 after being inspired by Tiesto’s performance at the Ultra Music Festival. Since then, KROMI has released numerous successful projects, with her collaboration with Ander Huang, “F Boy,” on Spinnin Records being a standout favorite. KROMI’s creative process usually begins with the buildup of a track and then focusing on the drop. She finds it easier to work with vocals and often looks for them to incorporate into her music. As an independent artist and producer, KROMI faces the challenges of meeting deadlines and expectations from a wide range of people. To stay calm when a project isn’t going as planned, KROMI advises lowering expectations and taking a break if necessary. KROMI is proud of several achievements in her career, including meeting fans in various cities, and seeing people on the dance floor holding up their phones with her name on them. In her free time, KROMI enjoys watching YouTube, snowboarding, and relaxing at home with her baby dog. On top of this, KROMI just released a major collaboration with the one and only MOGUAI named “No Secret”. This radio and club-ready song is out now on all major platforms. 14. If you were wondering whether the deluge of new Skrillex music would stop or slow down after January, here’s your answer. For the fifth week of the year, Skrillex has dropped his fifth single, this time teaming up with Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti for “Xena.” The track has clear Middle Eastern, almost Indian influence, especially in the drums and rhythm, not to mention Nai’s impressive vocal range and style. Beginning with an extremely minimal trap beat, it later moves into a hard dance section that should absolutely kick any crowd into overdrive when it hits. Check it out below! 15. Almost two months ago, we revealed our annual Artists to Watch list for 2023, including W IN K among 39 other exceptional names. This past week, W IN K dropped a 30-minute mix full of unreleased music for the upcoming year, and, not to toot our own horn, it’s great to hear that we were right in picking this talented artist as one to watch. While we can’t point to specific track titles in the mix (they’re all IDs), we can confidently say that there isn’t a single one that you’ll skip. All of the edits and clips, including Nero’s “Promises” or Flume’s “Never Be Like You” also show off W IN K’s skill as not just a producer, but also DJ. Though it’s not from W IN K himself, also pay special attention to the Knoir remix of Elley Duhé’s “Immortal” at 21:18. If you didn’t know, Elley had the original vocal that Fred again.. used for “Jungle,” so if it sounds familiar, that’s why. Check out the full mix now below! 16. We’re no stranger to what you would call “serious” artists suddenly releasing a song that showed off their real-life personality. Dillon Francis, Kill The Noise, Salvatore Ganacci… honestly, a lot of the old OWSLA contingent made a name for themselves with these sort of antics. Lately, music has felt a bit more serious overall, but we’re glad that some of that ethos exists in the ether, especially with TYNAN’s new song, “Ducks On Acid.” It began as little more than thinking, “what if…” “I was walking around a park near my house on a brisk fall morning when I happened across a quaint scene of an elderly man feeding bread crumbs to a paddling of ducks,” says TYNAN. “It was a quiet picturesque moment plucked straight from a hallmark card that felt innocently free from the struggles of day to day life. As if this moment could live untouched as a pure representation of peace. Of course, my dumbass brain thought ‘what if he was feeding the ducks acid?’ So I went home and made what that would sound like.” Sure enough, the song is weird as hell. Modulated duck sounds that we can only assume would be similar to what they would sound like if they happened upon some mind-enhancing substances permeate the production, with bouncy drums and some glitchy synths. It’s as fun as it is weird and wacky and we’re absolutely here for it. Check it out below. This article was first published on Your EDM. 17. R3HAB and Afrojack are back once again with another huge festival tune, “Shockwave.” Fans will instantly recognize this track as one that’s been heating up their live sets. Following up the more radio friendly “Worlds on Fire,” the two Dutch superstars hold nothing back on their latest collab. With it’s huge kick drums, bass-y synths and undeniable groove, “Shockwave” is a track designed to tear up the dance floor. “Afrojack and I have worked together for over ten years, and this last year has been the best yet.” R3HAB says. “We released our anthem ‘Worlds On Fire,’ remixed each other’s records, and played B2B sets at the world’s biggest festivals. We’re excited to start 2023 with ‘Shockwave,’ which is unlike any record we’ve worked on yet. It’s been a staple in our sets as we’ve developed it, and it’s finally ready for its official debut. Each year keeps getting better, and we can’t wait to see what this one has in store.” Afrojack adds, “It’s been great being back together with R3HAB. We’ve got many records ready to pop; you can find some already in our sets, and we’ve been testing ‘Shockwave’ for a while now and we’re pumped to put it out now!” Check out the latest from R3HAB & Afrojack, “Shockwave” out now on MDLBeast. 18. With the recent unveiling of Tomorrowland’s 2023 lineup, it’s only fitting that we get a collab from two of the festival’s favorite artists, Lucas & Steve and Yves V. The two Dutch acts have joined forces on “After Midnight.” Featuring vocals from Tik Tok sensation Xoro and a sample from Robert Miles’ classic trance track, “Children,” “After Midnight” pays homage to the old school, all while ushering in a fresh, pop-leaning sound. The track comes right out of the gates with light pads and hi-hats mixed over the iconic piano notes of “Children.” All the while Xoro hits us with his smooth vocals detailing his frustrations with a love interest. “Why you only call me after midnight?” We’ve all been there and this is the perfect track to dance away any frustrations you might have. 21. Elements Music & Arts Festival, the Northeast’s premier boutique festival experience, has announced the phase one lineup for its 2023 edition … and it’s a doozy. Skrillex continues his NA festival tour with an appearance at Elements this year, along with a DJ set from Porter Robinson following the Nurture live finale at Coachella this April, plus sets from John Summit, Ganja White Night, Subtronics, Chris Lake, and two more yet-to-be-revealed headliners. Long Pond proved to be the perfect new home for the revered Elements community in 2022, welcoming revelers to its magical fields and immersive forest landscapes. Quickly becoming a celebrated prodigal home for the long-running event, the location is one of the Northeast’s most unique venues, a clear capitulation of the imaginative feeling Elements has become known for amidst its dedicated community. Lovers of live electronic music will feel right at home with performances on deck from Elderbrook and East Coast funk-jam icons Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Those seeking out heavier electronic strains of dance are in for a treat with appearances by LSDREAM, TOKiMONSTA, and Mersiv, Peekaboo, Level Up, Zingara, and Of The Trees. The four primary stages of the festival are aptly named to each represent one of the key elements that define not only the event’s experience, but the very fabric of the natural world it celebrates. Fire is the home for thrill-seekers who thrive off moments of spontaneous fun, while Earth presents a psychedelic paradise of neon trees, galactic mushrooms, and airborne jellyfish. Air offers a temple of melodies tucked deep in the forest, while the sunshine playground known as Water is where acrobats, pirates, and clowns are ever abounding and swimsuits are heavily encouraged. Tier One GA and VIP passes are currently on sale through the official Elements Festival website, with a price increase coming soon for Tier Two tickets. Both ticket types are moving quickly and are on track to sell out. Fans can also purchase passes with an initial deposit and pay the rest after, which is $47 for GA passes and $62 for VIP. Thursday early arrival passes can also be purchased, which allows attendees to beat the rush and celebrate the beginning of the festival with an exclusive pre-party with secret headliners. Elements also offers a variety of options related to accommodations, which range from car camping to on-site glamping, nearby hotels, and preset RVs and tents for those seeking an elevated experience. 22. We still remember when Virtual Self b2b G Jones was first announced for last year’s return of Second Sky. It was the epitome of, “Holy shit, really? This is really happening?!” It was the first Virtual Self set in a couple years, and a rare b2b for G Jones outside of Eprom. The festival went down last October, including sets from RL Grime, Skrillex, and the man Porter Robinson himself. Back then, Skrillex hadn’t yet started his deluge of new music, so that was pretty cool — but he’d already been a surprise guest at the festival before. Virtual Self b2b G Jones was wholly unique and particularly attuned to the palate of the audience, bringing Virtual Self back from, essentially, hiatus and pairing the project with another of the most talented sound designers in the game. Now, the full hour-long set is available to stream at leisure, on SoundCloud and Apple Music. Check out the full stream below and don’t be afraid to play it again, and again, and again, and again… we won’t judge. This article was first published on Your EDM. 23. Welcoming in the new year on the hardest note, Kartypartyy has joined forces with Past12 for their menacing single “RAGE” featuring the electrifying vocals of Becko. Inviting their fan base to rage no matter what time of the day it is, the highly-anticipated collaboration earned a signing to the iconic label, Barong Family. The minute you press play, guitar chords and alarming instrumentals flow immaculately with energetic vocals to pump listeners up for the madness to come. All hell breaks lose, as metal crunching sound enhancements and bass-induced signatures quickly take over for all those bass-heads looking to ride the rail during festival season. It’s a sweltering single that is sure to light up DJ sets all year long. Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 24. We’ve been excited to see all that Bleu Clair will deliver this year. Only days before his November 2022 EDC Orlando performance, Bleu Clair dropped his final release of the year with New Age of House EP, which typifies a year packed with millions of streams, many tour dates, and festival bookings. The well-received EP has already gone on to achieve over a million streams and continues growing daily. Now, he’s back with his first single of the year and it is everything we needed to get our week right. Titled, “Step Into It,” Bleu explores the infectious classic and disco house sounds, whirling them into a 2023 banger. From swirling string instruments, saxophone runs, thick basslines, and energy levels with hefty peaks and valleys, it’s safe to say Bleu’s going full steam ahead for 2023. “Get ready to be transported back in time with my new single ‘Step Into It’. This nostalgic tech house track is bursting with retro-infused beats and sultry vocals that will have you feeling nostalgically charged and ready to dance. Don’t miss out on this trip down memory lane and join me on the dance floor.” – Bleu Clair Listen below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 25. Rich Fayden is one of those pioneers in the music industry. One could call him a musical hipster because he did many things well before they were cool. For his music on its own, his origins in NYC appear strongly throughout his discography as he makes that specific area’s sound with the utmost affection. All that grime and concrete jungle rising from Manhattan’s foundations can be heard within his output. His latest drop, “Don’t Be Cruel,” shows his uncanny ability to take what he grew up with and recontextualize it into something new. Originally a new jack swing track, he reimagines it as a lumbering beast of a track. Chill yet with darker undertones, he crafts that classic into a thing that speaks very much toward the present. With a lot of the focus on dance and pop going more for muscle rather than speed, the song has this rumbling bass frequency that has a sheer cinematic quality to it. With a keen eye for detail and passion in abundance, Fayden is no stranger to delivering high-level performances. The studio always presents an exciting prospect – this time being no different as the musician sought to perfectly capture that same energy within his cover of this one iconic song from years ago. A bass groove set things in motion, followed soon after with vivid synth melodies and creative vocal leads pitched down – culminating into a hit remake sure to stand out amongst its contemporaries! Beyond his roots in music, he started in the music scene of NYC in person before quickly realizing some of the other elements that would become highly influential moving forward. His scouting of another talent, giving them a chance to be heard, began on Talent Match and the quintessential Myspace. He started doing that around 2003, well before anybody else even thought to do such a thing.
