Daft Punk explains why they broke up
We’re quickly approaching the release of Random Access Memories 10th Anniversary Edition on the heels of the two-year anniversary of Daft Punk officially breaking up. Thomas Bangalter has a solo album coming out this Friday, Mythologies, his debut solo orchestral album. Ahead of the release, he spoke with BBC and explained why exactly Daft Punk officially decided to break up. “[Daft Punk] was an exploration, I would say, starting with the machines and going away from them. I love technology as a tool [but] I’m somehow terrified of the nature of the relationship between the machines and ourselves,” Bangalter explained. “We tried to use these machines to express something extremely moving that a machine cannot feel, but a human can. We were always on the side of humanity and not on the side of technology,” he added. With the advent of more popularized AI and algorithmic technologies, Thomas and Guy-Manuel chose to retain their more human sides. On the new album, he explained, “Daft Punk was a project that blurred the line between reality and fiction with these robot characters. It was a very important point for me and [co-founder] Guy-Man[uel] to not spoil the narrative while it was happening. Now the story has ended, it felt interesting to reveal part of the creative process that is very much human-based and not algorithmic of any sort.” via Consequence This article was first published on Your EDM. Crab Rave gets its own video game 5 years later
When Noisestorm released “Crab Rave” with Monstercat for April Fool’s Day five years ago, no one thought that it would become such an integral part of meme culture. Thousands of memes are created every day, some intentional and some with wanton abandon — “Crab Rave” seems to be in the latter group. It’s a silly video of crabs dancing at the end of the day. But, somehow, it caught on. Now, five years to the day later, Noisestorm himself has created his own video game called “Crab Champions.” The game is a roguelike, meaning you will play the same general map rotation with an ever-evolving list of skills and abilities to help you defeat your foes. (FFO: Hades, Gunfire Reborn, Weird RPG, Brotato.) You can play solo or with up to three friends, shooting and looting across the beach. At time of publishing, you can purchase Crab Champions for 15% off normal price on Steam for $8.49. It's been a day since Crab Champions released and I wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone that tried the game out. As a solo game developer releasing my first ever game it's a dream come true- I couldn't have asked for a better release pic.twitter.com/rar7pmIKPK — Crab Champions (@CrabChampions) April 2, 2023 This article was first published on Your EDM. Talal Makes Debut On David Hohme’s ‘Where The Heart Is’ Imprint With Mesmerizing Single, “Lorean”
Talal is a London based DJ, producer who’s continued to turn heads with his enthralling sound. He’s performed all over the world, including sets at Cream Amnesia Ibiza, ADE and plenty more. His music has also been supported by industry heavyweights BBC, Sirius XM, Judge Jules Global Warm Up, and DJs such as Adriatique, John Digweed, Maceo Plex, Nora En Pure, and Solomun. Now, this talented artist is making his debut on David Hohme’s ‘Where The Heart Is’ imprint with a mesmerizing single, “Lorean”. It’s fascinating from start to finish, loaded with glistening melodies and driving backbeat. We had the chance to ask him a few questions about this release and what’s next for him. Enjoy! How did you connect with David Hohme and his record label, Where The Heart Is? I have been a fan of his Burning Man sets with Robot Heart, Bubbles & Bass, Pink Mammoth etc.. and releases on his label Where The Heart Is + Anjunadeep and Colorize. So over time, I sent over some potential material that could fit within some of the above tones. Can you talk about the significance of Lorean’s track names? I am not sure exactly, at the time, it came pretty quickly, for something that fit with the sounds feeling a bit more retro/analog yet accessible. How important is it for artists to constantly push the boundaries and try new things? I think in any field; if people get into a cycle, it can eventually become narrowing. So although it takes discipline, a way to keep curiosity alive – is to keep the process of searching for and developing new sounds – separate from writing songs. Doing both at the same time could become very time intensive – but if you allocate time just to find/develop new tones/sounds, and then archive them away in a folder. Then whenever approaching the writing phase – from the start it will be fresh and unique. Inversely, if people become overly identified with one specific sound or genre over time, that could become restrictive. Which artists or genres influenced your music on Lorean? I think it was 2 things primarily, one was a vocal track I did for Robot Hearts Further Future Festival (Eighties – Further Future Vocal Mix) – I wanted to revisit at some point that tone, and the trigger that nudged me to allocate some time was listening to The Midnight. A friend in Istanbul Kerem Siral runs some healthy living/lifestyle brands and Artı Eksi a very well produced travel youtube channel – I stumbled into The Midnight from his Instagram stories/videos he puts up for RON Gym in Nisantasi. We talked about missing California, so at some point I felt perhaps I could do more music in that direction. What’s next for Talal in terms of your music career and goals? At the moment there are a number of more immediate items in process for music signing/releases and potential events, in April a remix of Lorean by Nihil Young, May there will be a release on D-Formations Beatfreak, July an EP on the French Family Piknik Festival label, a followup release on John 00 Flemings JOOF label, a potential EP with the Istanbul based Future Forward, hopefully some items will make their way towards Denis Alentief of BEON1X / DAR, a potential remix for DJ Macintyres SLC6 label – and various prospective event discussions for Canada, Spain, France, Cyprus, London. Will be playing with Golden Hour at Night Tales in London April 16 and June 11, Ottawa Progress Vibes event at Club Berlin in Canada July 21. Ideally, I would like from mid-2023 for the music writing/releases to be planned a bit further out in larger segments – and the events planned a bit further out – this could give more space to develop original material. There is a potential larger vocal project in the works currently which may reach the light of day for the second half of 2023, there were some collaborations with Nihil Young and Amy Mayson on the Danish/Norwegian Paperclip/Nomade agency/label one of which just passed 3 million listeners on spotify – so hopefully there is more that can be structured/planned there. I am also in talks often with some friends in East Asia regarding ideas for 2023/2024 to see how things unfold, Jason Swamy of Robot Heart / Wonderfruit / Do What You Love, is gradually exploring some new projects which will be very interesting but of course, take some time to develop. 1tbsp Strikes Perfection On ‘It’s Very Loud’ EP
1tbsp is the project by Australian Grammy Award Nominated artist Maxwell Byrne (aka Golden Vessel) which has a sound that can be likened to a mix between Daphni, Four Tet and DJ Koze. He’s crafted an irresistible sounds that lies somewhere between deep and melodic house, and his songs have an uncanny ability to get stuck in your head. Over the last few weeks, he offered exceptional new 1tbsp singles – “Pioneer Digital Plastic Sound”, “No Nein (feat. Mietze Conte)” and “Four Tet Is My Godmother” – each encompassing their own uinque flair that built plenty of anticipation for his ‘It’s Very Loud’ EP The ep features the above mentioned recent singles alongside one other previously unheard gem and title-track, ‘It’s Very Loud’, which was co-written with his friend Squidgenini who also featured on his 2022 single ‘Seasons’. From the intoxicating synth melodies to trippy vocal samples, it’s safe to say they nearly struck perfection on this tune. “I built this around a bass line that Squidgenini played the first time we met up to write. I scraped everything else we made and cut in some samples from tracklib. This is sort of the b-side on the EP, and I tried to make it a bit of a slower burn / dubby. The main vocal in the track is this trashy pop vocal but the way I cut it created new lyrics which weren’t there originally resulting in the repeating “It’s Very Loud”.” – 1tbsp Speaking to the EP, he shares: “My new ep “It’s Very Loud” is all about self-expression and making music that excites me enough that I want to share it and use it in my DJ sets. It’s a pretty simple concept but sometimes other things get in the way, and I wanted to make this louder than previous things I’ve made.” Check it out below! Soul Food Music Collective Releases Thrilling ‘Volume 3’ New Wave & Garage Compilation
Soul Food Music Collective is a Los Angeles and Internet-based music community that first arrived on the scene in 2017. Originally established at the University of California Riverside, Soul Food strives to be a diverse platform that showcases our universal love of art, music, and culture, and they do an excellent job. Soul Food prides itself on delivering underground music to a wider, genre-diverse audience. Known for throwing parties with a cause, Soul Food is continuously connecting realities online and in-person by good friends and good vibes. Nourishment for the mind, body, and soul. Now, this exciting collective has unveiled a thrilling Volume 3 compilation that’s a genre-bending musical paradise, stacked with the best and brightest up-and-comers in the underground Wave and Bass scenes. The team shares: “Soul Food Comp 03 symbolizes a turning point in our ever-evolving story. As of this moment in time, we don’t really consider ourselves a record label. Three years ago, we had no idea what to expect with Comp 01.. We were honestly prepared for it to be a one-time only thing. Fast forward to now and it’s truly all thanks to our community that we can co-create such beautiful soundscapes. The current recording industry is in such a weird state. Especially if you’re an underground, independent artist. With how unbalanced the streaming game is regarding royalties, so many of Soul Food’s creatives are unable to rely on being a musician full-time and truly live out their dream careers. And without substantial streaming numbers, it’s even harder to be booked for Live Shows.” The A-Side is exclusively wave focused – loaded with artists such as Loss Combinator, dreamcode, Falldren and C-ZER – while the B-side focuses more on Garage and Experimental Bass sounds and features WildType, DriveSlowHomie, wes pierce and many more. The Collective adds: “The industry continues to be oversaturated with new music being shared every day by artists that escape the mainstream’s attention. Highlighting such artists has always been the goal for our community-lead albums. We don’t care if you’ve never released on major platforms or labels before. We don’t care if we don’t make any money off of your music. As such, all artists that allow Soul Food to distribute their record retain all rights to their master. They can request us to remove their songs off streaming platforms should they desire- such as if they secure a more lucrative deal. They can also re-upload said songs if they wish to retain all their royalties. The only agreement made between Artist & Soul Food is that they allow us to donate all proceeds from our Distribution to the Harmony Project. By empowering underprivileged youth through music education, we believe we’re sharing a message that the future of our world is dependent on taking care of the next generations. By giving power back to artists, we believe we’re highlighting how essential it is to invest in the main sources that drive our industry.” Outside of the music, one of the coolest details about this release is that proceeds from the compilation will be donated to a music-related charity called Harmony Project. Overall, it’s clear to see that Soul Food Collective is working to not only promote the best up and coming talent, but also honor all the people involved in the process, with a pure focus on the community. “To some, I may sound crazy because companies like Spotify & Tik-Tok have re-shaped the way we experience music in a transcendent way. However, when these major platforms create predatory business practices that only reward the top 1% of artists or the labels themselves, all I see is a huge disconnect in co-creating a music industry that benefits everyone. We may not have the solution ourselves when it comes to solving the current streaming problems, but we find peace in knowing the music we release directly improves the lives of musicians less fortunate than us. Our hope is that we can continue to build a more inclusive, win-win environment for all that share this passion of creativity, art, and culture. Let’s change the game together.“ Listen below! GunFight’s New Single “Rush” Is A Thrilling And Heavy Sonic Journey
Following explosive singles such as “Salvo” and “Decennary,” rising trailblazer GunFight has just created bass music heaven with “Rush.” Currently based in Los Angeles and hailing from Austin, Texas, GunFight has been cementing himself as one of bass music’s most exciting up-and-comers over the past years, methodically unveiling single after single while capturing the attention of various industry professionals, as well as an ever-growing and engaged fanbase. While GunFight’s recent success shines the brightest, the bass music mastermind has been releasing music for almost a decade now, with his debut official EP Infinite landing on streaming platforms back in 2014. Following a small hiatus, GunFight went on to release two albums throughout 2017 with Rouse and Paramount, that nicely displayed his genre-bending style over a total of 15 combined tracks. Since early 2020, GunFight has been immensely consistent with his music releases while setting the blueprint for how independent artists should go about growing their careers. With almost 30 singles under his belt over these past three years, GunFight has explored a myriad of bass music genres, while maintaining a cohesive visual aesthetic that is extremely well-stylized, and features dystopian, post-apocalyptic and cyberpunk-inspired art. GunFight’s visualizer choices are as impressive as his music, which has earned him support from the likes of Don Diablo, Cedric Gervais, Jauz, Slushii, Craze, Lost Frequencies and Zeds Dead. Ranging from drum & bass, dubstep and electro house to more niche genres like synthwave, drumstep and midtempo, GunFight’s catalog is unconventional and versatile while being characterized by a unified sonic direction. GunFight’s brand new single “Rush” makes for the perfect example of his music production prowess and might be one of his heaviest to date. A breaks tune with cinematic intros and distorted drops, “Rush” follows a unique arrangement while transitioning from section to section at light speed. Eerie atmospheres and groovy drums kick off the single, followed by a buildup that sounds like the soundtrack to a shooter game. The drop is as meticulous as it is explosive, with the final result being a ruthless bass music anthem that we can’t get enough of. “Rush” marks GunFight’s third single of 2023, and certainly not the last. If his previous years are any indication, we can surely expect a lot more bangers from the talented producer to drop over the coming months, as it looks like he’s far from slowing down anytime soon. Kygo releases official remake of Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson “Say Say Say”
Kygo has a history of reviving old songs. They’re not quite slap house, in terms of genre, but in soul, they share many similarities. He’s put out updated covers of songs from Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, and Tina Turner in the past. Today’s release revives “Say Say Say,” the 1983 collaboration between Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. Speaking on the release, Kygo says, “I’m absolutely honored to work on a song that was made by two of the greatest musical legends of all time. Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson have meant so much to me as an artist and I’ve been listening to their music since I was a kid. It’s been a dream of mine to collaborate alongside these iconic artists and hope everyone enjoys the song as much as I do.” This marks Kygo’s first taste of new music in 2023, and follows the release of his fourth studio album, Thrill Of The Chase, this past fall. Kygo will play his biggest UK headline show to date on Saturday August 12th, 2023, at London Gunnersbury Park. To purchase tickets, visit HERE. Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding release church version of latest single, “Miracle” [WATCH]
When Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding first began teasing their new collaboration, “Miracle,” one of the visual assets was a video of Ellie singing, beautiful voice echoed in a large church. That was St. Bartholomew the Great, London’s oldest surviving church, and the full performance is now available. “Miracle” came out three weeks ago on March 10 and immediately stunned fans who heard Calvin going in a more trance direction, especially after his latest album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2. Of course, we don’t know if he’s going to continue down this path for future songs. Speaking to Zane Lowe on New Music Daily on Apple Music 1 on the release, he said, “I’ve never done it before. I’ve done the, I’ve done the trance-y sounding things before, but I’ve never been this fast. So it feels good.” Watch below. This article was first published on Your EDM. Ultra Music Festival: Reinventing RESISTANCE and Special Guests [Review]
Ultra Music Festival 2023 came and went and did so in spectacular fashion. The decades old, household name in EDM festivals has always felt like the New Year of the music festival circuit. It’s biggest claim to fame is that it’s where most producers and DJs in the scene show off a plethora of unreleased content which everyone ends up hearing all year round. And this year didn’t disappoint with some key, contributive factors including off-the-wall special guests, inclusion of more diverse genres in the EDM pantheon, and revolutionizing one the festival’s underground destinations: Resistance. The special guests at Ultra have always been apart of the mystique of Ultra Music Festival. Past years included iconic moments from Madonna, Kodak Black, Slash, and even Will Smith. However, this year’s special guests felt more in-tuned with newer music and artists than years prior. These included artists that felt like the most appropriate for an outing in Miami while others felt so out-of-pocket in the best way. In the first category, Marshmello headlined the main stage with his own combination of bass music rage and nostalgia callbacks (see Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction vs Party Favor’s WAWA [Lights Out Jersey Remix]). But out of nowhere, he’s joined by one unexpected artist after another. Marshmello cemented Ultra Music Festival as the only place to properly spring break with GloRilla and Roddy Rich playing their biggest hits. But everyone in attendance can agree that the energy peaked that evening when Farruko came on stage to perform “Pepas” in front of thousands of ravers. The collab they previewed together right after might have helped maintain that energy just a little longer. In the second category, Zedd pulled out Ice Spice… Yeah, let that sink in for a second. Interestingly enough, it was a pretty clever, albeit out-there appearance. The rapper came up to sing her song “No Clarity” right as Zedd had teased one of his biggest tracks of all time “Clarity”. Despite both artists feeling like their from complete different eras and backgrounds, they were a perfect fit in unifying each other’s audiences into one crowd. But I’m sure that didn’t stop fans watching the livestream to mouth out, “What the…” Meanwhile, David Guetta had a similar moment bringing out Coi Leray, but at least Guetta has a remix of Leray’s song “Players” that just released to tie the two artists together. NEW MUSIC @DavidGuetta brings out @coi_leray at @ultra to play his remix of "Players" for the first time! #umflive Watch live here https://t.co/yFbnOb3CoT pic.twitter.com/5JtFckLhad — Your EDM (@YourEDM) March 27, 2023 Another aspect to that made this year’s UMF so special was the inclusion of newer scene artists from genres that don’t typically see a lot of love in Miami history. Typically, despite being the place to hear some of the newest music of the year, Ultra’s history shows a lot of favoritism towards house music. But this year, the stages were shared with artists from more musical movements within the EDM landscape. First and foremost, the biggest surprise was Charlotte De Witte at the main stage. It may have been earlier in the day, and maybe it was a shorter set than most people are used to hearing from an artist of her caliber. But the fact that a TECHNO artist was performing at the MAIN STAGE at a MAJOR MUSIC FESTIVAL is next-to unheard of. But Ultra took a chance and the set couldn’t have been more perfect for getting Miami out of its comfort zone. Meanwhile, the Worldwide stage hosted drum n’ bass rising star Dimension who obliterated fans with his repertoire of 2-step grooves and anthemic cuts. It was also a big year to see stars of bass music in general at Ultra Music Festival from Subtronic’s bass-laced wonderland to Lil Texas and his rage-induced, happy-hardcore utopia. Finally, the biggest thing to talk about was was the major upgrade to the RESISTANCE. To those out-of-the-know, Resistance is the name of one of the biggest brands that can take over a stage at Ultra Music Festival. When they’re in charge, they tout the ultimate artists playing house, techno, and in the past it was the host for A State of Trance (this year hosted by the Worldwide Stage). Resistance usually takes refuge in the Megastructure, but most people know it as the home for one of the biggest names in the dance music space: Carl Cox. His presence at the Megastructure annually is a constant in life like death and taxes. But the artists who get to share that stage get to see one of the most ambitious and intimidating views any artist could have in front of them. Take a look for yourself! Leading up to the legend were dazzling sets from Enrico Sangiuliano, Ilario Alicante, and Anfisa Letgayo. But the immaculate support didn’t stop there. Buzz continues to circulate around sets from Tale of Us, Maceo Plex b2b Michael Bibi, Adam Beyer b2b Cirez D, and lest we forget the Testpilot b2b HI-LO takeover. For Friday-goers, they may have caught a glimpse at a legendary Swede closing the stage with his must-see HOLO set. The one and only Eric Prydz returned to UMF with a new set of eye-candy visuals laced with his progressive house prowess. Even with my best penmanship, words fail to describe how encapsulating it was to be under that tent. But for those looking for a more intimate sense of techno and house music that trade glitz and glamour for pure sonic escapism, there was another RESISTANCE stage called The Cove. In previous years, the Cove used to be known as Arcadia where it touted their depth-defying Spider stage, where the DJs would hang above the crowd for a 360° experience rarely delivered at music festivals. But when Arcadia and Ultra parted ways, it gave the festival organizers and opportunity to see just how much bigger they could take the Cove. And this year, they delivered. It started with each day being taken over by different labels. On Friday, Nicole Moudaber‘s IN THE MOOD collective reigned supreme. From Juliet Fox owning the daylight hours to Ida Engberg and Maya Jane Coles simply hypnotizing the Friday crowd. But if you weren’t there for Moudaber b2b with frequent partner-in-crime Chris Liebing, I can only describe it as audio-heaven. Saturday’s lineup shifted into a more progressive and deep house direction with Joris Voorn presenting SPECTRUM at the helm and support from Mind Against and Franky Wah. Meanwhile, Sunday had all the campers out with Dirtybird hosting. Sets from label boss Claude VonStroke and his horde of tech house players like VNSSA, Walker & Royce, and Shiba San even had the backstage crews shuffling. In short, Ultra Music Festival 2023 has kicked off the new year for the music festival landscape and did so in typical, yet iconic fashion. The special guests turned heads, more artists from lesser explored subgenres got to share the spotlight, and RESISTANCE is taking a proactive approach at being more than just an annual destination at the show. All this has me wondering…how long until I should be booking my next flight and stay at Miami for 2024. Photo credits: Alive Coverage, Rukes, Rudgr.com This article was first published on Your EDM. Habstrakt releases debut album, “Heritage”
Habstrakt has been a pillar of the bass community since the genre first boomed around 2014-2015. But, like all artists, his story begins years earlier as he rose in popularity with releases on Never Say Die, putting out three banger dubstep EPs from 2012-2013. In 2014, he put out his first single on Disciple, the newly minted (at the time) label from Rossy of Astronaut and Mediks and Rob from Dodge & Fuski. In 2015, he put out “Time” on his Cool Cats Never Die EP, the first track of his that might fit within the “bass house” genre. Later that year, he leaned into it more with My People. It wasn’t until 2017 with “I Wanna” with Jace Mek that he really began to be known as a “bass house artist.” Even then, his genre style carried with it years of experience and variety, bringing in elements of heavier bass and his French heritage. Here we are, six years later, and Heritage has become a banner for him and the title of his debut album. It’s a nod to his French roots and, likely, how far he’s come in this scene in an overall sense. His last EP was in 2016 with French Press on Never Say Die, and it’s been all singles from then until now. “From the heaviest to the deepest, I hope people will resonate with the album, and find their favorite record inside in the process,” said Habstrakt. “It’s a journey through the past, the present and the future of my vision.” The album showcases Habstrakt’s versatility as an artist, including different styles he has not shown before and ones that are not necessarily defined as a “dance floor banger.” Many of the tracks go against the grain of traditional electronic music, including ambient sounds with minimal lyrics, but still tell a complete story. From start to end, Heritage tells his journey as an artist, searching to find his sound in the EDM industry, and shows every aspect of Habstrakt’s current state of mind. Listen below! Currently on his Heritage tour, Habstrakt has played in four countries in Europe and is set to play thirteen cities across the U.S., including The Midway in San Francisco and Soundcheck in Washington D.C. GunFight’s New Single “Ride” Is A Thrilling And Heavy Sonic Journey
Following explosive singles such as “Salvo” and “Decennary,” rising trailblazer GunFight has just created bass music heaven with “Ride.” Currently based in Los Angeles and hailing from Austin, Texas, GunFight has been cementing himself as one of bass music’s most exciting up-and-comers over the past years, methodically unveiling single after single while capturing the attention of various industry professionals, as well as an ever-growing and engaged fanbase. Ranging from drum & bass, dubstep and electro house to more niche genres like synth-wave, drumstep, and midtempo, GunFight’s catalog is unconventional and versatile while being characterized by a unified sonic direction. GunFight’s brand new single “Ride” makes for the perfect example of his music production prowess and might be one of his heaviest to date. A breaks tune with cinematic intros and distorted drops, “Ride” follows a unique arrangement while transitioning from section to section at light speed. Eerie atmospheres and groovy drums kick off the single, followed by a buildup that sounds like the soundtrack to a shooter game. The drop is as meticulous as it is explosive, with the final result being a ruthless bass music anthem that we can’t get enough of. “Ride” marks GunFight’s third single of 2023, and certainly not the last. If his previous years are any indication, we can surely expect a lot more bangers from the talented producer to drop over the coming months, as it looks like he’s far from slowing down anytime soon. NIK:11 Releases Mesmerizing Classic Rave Single “Pillow Talk”
Two-time award-winning artist NIK:11 is on a mission to showcase her eclectic sound which varies from electro, big-room bounce, tech-house, and more. She’s toured around the globe including festivals in America, Japan, and Europe, even hitting the Billboard Dance Chart with her track “KICKBACK” featuring Ouiwey Collins. For her latest single, NIK:11 has called upon Grammy-nominated producer Chico Bennett for their mesmerizing single “Pillow Talk“. This song was inspired by the 1973 release of the 70’s classic R&B track “Pillow Talk”, written and performed by Sylvia Robinson, which NIK:11 shares: “I fell in love with the story of Sylvia Robinson, because she was sexy and she was a risk taker, when no one else believed in the track “Pillow Talk” she released it herself and performed the track in a way that was liberating, sexually and free.” Listen below! Hungry and ambitious NYC based talent Rich Furniss continues to impress us with his tunes, who seems to blend the classic roots of house music with a compelling modern twist. Today, he’s revealed what could be one of his best releases to date with “Desire,” in collaboration with friends Morsy and Buck. Here’s what Rich had to say about it: “The energy between Morsy, Buck and I was just natural when making “Desire,” I feel like a balance of all of us are in here.
