Incive’s Pulsating Melodic Techno Odyssey “Floating Through”
For music lovers, Incive‘s newest atmospheric masterpiece “Floating Through” is about to take you on a melodic dance journey through space like no other. From the very beginning, pulsing beats and complex synthwork come together. They create an intergalactic journey that is both thrilling and relaxing. “Floating Through” builds like chapters in an interesting sci-fi story, which shows how well Incive knows how to make noises that tell stories. The smooth mixing of ethereal atmospheres and glitched-out sounds makes for a unique listening experience that engages both the mind and the senses. Soaring melodic motifs create a deep sense of wonder and adventure, and the masterful building of tension leads to a stunning ending that will leave listeners speechless. Even though the soundscape sounds like something from the future, Incive never loses sight of what melodic techno is all about. They find the perfect mix between stimulating the mind and making you groove. The song “Floating Through” is a great example of this balance; it combines a hypnotic beat with a soaring melody in a way that makes you want to think and move freely. “Floating Through” is now out on the respected Gravity City Records label and can be heard on all major streaming services. Prepare to take off; you won’t want to miss this trip between the stars. The post Incive’s Pulsating Melodic Techno Odyssey “Floating Through” appeared first on The Groove Cartel.

EDMTunes New Music Friday – Week 20
Listen to the most flavour-packed tracks we discovered this week. Music makes the world go round. And in that regard, we’re constantly on the lookout for new, exciting tunes to share with our audience. We’ve found some that cause goosebumps, and make you open your eyes and get up from your chair to dance. So put on your best pair of headphones, or turn up your speakers, and enjoy this week’s New Music Friday. Here are our top picks for the best music we came across this week, in no particular order. Mezraa – Never Leave Genre: House, Progressive Trance Kicking off this week’s NMF is Montreal’s Mezraa. The artist has developed a sound through the years that borrows a ton of elements from a bundle of Dance genres, and with it he’s created his own delicate broth. ‘Never Leave‘, this release, comes to be the perfect blend of House vibes and a Trance aura of the highest order. The track makes a sped-up vocal the star of the show, turning into the connective tissue throughout since it’s present at all times. Under the vocal, though, lies a beautiful chord progression, once a soft, shy lead, which as the bars go on, turns into a much more present, open lead. The end result is quite close in spirit to those old early 2000s Progressive Trance gems. Aaliyah – Try Again (Yazz Min Remix) Genre: Deep House “Mmmmmmmm“. That’s the first thing you’ll try to hold when listening to this belter of a remix. Keeping the legacy of Aaliyah alive and present, artist Yazz Min respectfully flipped her iconic ‘Try Again‘ hit and turned it into a different, savoury Deep House tune. True Deep House, as I often say. Pairing the sexy elements of Aaliyah’s R&B with the iconically oomphy elements of Deep House, this rendition grabs the best sounds of the original and makes it dancefloor worthy. In fact, this would go really well in one of those landscape-ey DJ sets on crowded rooftops. Feel the pianos, the original textures, and fly away. Clubbing Purposes · FREE DOWNLOAD: Aaliyah – Try Again (Yazz Min Remix) Trance Reserve & Karl Osvan – Unbreakable Genre: Uplifting Trance Looking for an uplifting journey? This one is best enjoyed with eyes closed. Trance heavyweights Trance Reserve (quite fittingly) and Karl Osvan joined forces for a tune that lives up to its name, ‘Unbreakable‘. This one is a one-way ticket to musical Heaven, I’m telling you. If you’re into Uplifting, you’ve come to the right place. Through vocal beds, airy plucks, open saws, and a strong beat, ‘Unbreakable’ tells a story and it makes you levitate. It truly takes the best elements of Trance and makes the most out of all of them. We’re glad to feature this track this week on NMF! Clark Key – Break Genre: Techno, Tech House Rising House star Clark Key hails from South Florida and has a knack for pulling elements and ideas from all across the spectrum of Electronic music. Though his sound leans slightly more to the Techier side of things, his aim is to put out content people will not only love but also groove to, and his tracks truly embrace that extra kick of dynamism. Tech House comes clean through Key’s latest, ‘Break‘. Detuned synths, tension, silence, crowded areas, every aspect of a fun track makes an appearance in here. And if that wasn’t enough, the cherry on top — or rather, on the bottom — is a jumpy bass, quite resemblant of Psytrance, but turned into the perfect House base for a different tune. Nice. Krysta Youngs, Stash Konig & Liquid Todd – Let’s Go Back (Wassu Remix) Genre: Progressive House, Deep House Did you read the remixer’s name? Read it again. And again. Yup, it’s Wassu. You know it’s going to be a piece of bliss the one you’re about to listen to. Perfect for the summer season ahead, he’s been on top of the situation: crafting the best possible take on a feel-good, quite nostalgic tune. Using the happy ‘Let’s Go Back‘ by Krysta Youngs, Stash Konig and Liquid Todd, Wassu created the perfect track for those afternoons by the beach, with a good laugh and proper company. Give it a listen and try to imagine anything else other than that warm sandy sunset. We couldn’t. KRÆK – Architecture Genre: Drum & Bass Just out of the oven. In fact, rumours say they had to take this one out of the oven before it burnt the oven itself — this one couldn’t get any hotter. KRÆK is a Drum & Bass DJ and producer from Germany with a passion for precision. You wouldn’t think otherwise of someone with a solid background in Computer Science and Business, and he doesn’t disappoint. Delicately and finely tuned, ‘Architecture‘ is one of the latest gems from him, and it really elevates the Drum & Bass experience a couple notches. Dark, fast-paced, Jungle-Intelligent-esque, this is the tune which broke the mould. Upon listening, you can distinguish it from most DnB pieces, and it’s that uniqueness which earns KRÆK the spot on this week’s NMF. MI.LA & Maxxim – Nishati Genre: Organic House, Afro House Songuara is back, baby! We’d missed these guys. Out now on Songuara Tales is label boss Maxxim joining MI.LA for quite the ethnic-sounding track, ‘Nishati‘. If you’ve never heard the work of these two, boy are you in for a treat. Organic House at its finest, and this time with that extra kick of tension, aka lacking claps on beats two and four. ‘Nishati’ is written on an unconventional scale, giving it the Middle Eastern treatment. Add to that the incredible percussion, the flutes, and all those little pieces of ear candy, and you have yourself quite the dancefloor rocker. Carrying the essence of Afro House over to its brother genre, this experiment couldn’t have gone better. Castion – Loose & Dance Genre: Tech House We’ve got a fire closer for this week’s NMF. Hailing from Spain, Castion is a Tech House producer making waves in the industry at a fast pace. At the age of 14, he dived into the world of production, and since then he’s grown a discography that accrues to over 80 compositions. Talk about working! The B-side to his latest EP is titled ‘Loose & Dance‘ can quite make you lose it and dance the night away. The amount of filth of the beat is undescribable, frankly. Between the rolling percussion, the reverse hits, the vocal, the tension, and the oomph and low end this thing carries, we’ll definitely be blasting this one during the weekend. Nonstop? Won’t specify details… Final Words Stay tuned, for more of our compilations every Tuesday and Friday — based on demand. And be sure to follow EDMTunes for all the latest news and reviews that revolve around our beloved Electronic Dance Music! The post EDMTunes New Music Friday – Week 20 appeared first on EDMTunes.

[Event Review] ILLENIUM Throws Down At Official HITC Afterparty At Terminal 5 NYC
After performing the first ever ILLENIUM B2B Dabin set at 88Rising’s Head In The Clouds Festival NY, the Denver producer went on to perform at the official afterparty taking place at Terminal 5 this past weekend. This wasn’t the first time that ILLENIUM has performed at T5 and this one was another one for the books. Starting up the night was the NYC based group Sadbois, warming up the venue with a good mix of melodic dubstep and heartfelt beats. Then when the clock hit 12am, LA based producer Elephante took the decks. At this point in the night, Terminal 5 was pretty packed with a steady flow of people arriving to the venue from the festival. Elephante propelled the night forward with his dynamic transitions and upbeat drops. He played out crowd favorites such as ‘Dynasty‘, ‘Catching On‘, and ‘Glass Mansion‘. What’s unique about his sets is that he is not afraid to take the mic, as he got the whole venue singing along to his vibeful tracks. One highlight of his performance was when he played his latest track ‘Say It Like You Mean it‘ with Sabai, which saw an immediate response with many in the crowd singing along to it. At 1am, ILLENIUM took centerstage and the venue was completely packed with it being a sold out show. The excitement was in the air as many in the crowd were brandishing their ILLENIUM jerseys. Everybody was ready at this point of the night and ILLENIUM took no time to start his set with his heavy hitters. The energy was at an all time high with Illenials headbanging to each and every track. After seeing ILLENIUM more than a dozen times, his performances always have a perfect mix between the heavier bangers and heartfelt melodies. His tracks always have a way to connect with the crowds, with everyone singing along to each soulful vocal. ‘Good Things Fall Apart‘, ‘Takeaway‘, and ‘All That Really Matters‘ were just some of the tracks that he dished out in his arsenal. A personal highlight of the night is his most recent collaboration with Seven Lions, ‘Not Even Love‘ which already has over 4 million streams since its release in March. After the night was over, it’s safe to say everyone in attendance left in a high mood. For those who didn’t have enough ILLENIUM over the past weekend, they can catch him playing Friday at EDC Las Vegas. [Event Review] Head in The Clouds NY Festival Celebrates 2nd Edition In Style
Nine years ago, founder Sean Miyashiro planted the seeds of 88rising in New York City. His vision was clear: to champion the voices of immigrants, both Asian and beyond. Fast forward to today, 88rising has blossomed into a global music powerhouse, renowned for its trendsetting curatorial style and groundbreaking collaborations. The media collective has become a champion of diversity and inclusivity, representing underrepresented artists and creating a platform where performers and fans can unite and celebrate Asian culture and music. This growth has spawned various ventures, including the crown jewel, Head In The Clouds (HITC). This vibrant festival celebrates the music, culture, and cuisine of Asian culture. This past weekend, HITC touched down in Forest Hills Queens on May 11th and May 12th, to celebrate AAPI month. NYC, especially Queens is known to be a melting pot of the world and that was reflected in not only the lineup but the diverse crowd in attendance. Over 10,000 fans flocked to the stadium over the weekend to see their favorite artists from across the world, including South Korea, Japan, the Philippians and more. One big part of asian culture is the diverse food options. HITC did very well in bringing in local food vendors that truly represented a big part of how Asians grew up. Some of the vendors included 5ive Spice, Gai Chicken and Rice, OBAO Noodles & BBQ, Potluck Club, Silk., Tabetomo, and Tomokase. photo credits: lindseyblane On Saturday, the Korean group Balming Tiger came out strong with their irresistible charm and upbeat energy. They really knew how to work their stage with their intricate choreography which would constantly erupt cheers amongst the crowd. Next up, New York native Juliet Ivy has been a young star to watch seeing her meteoric rise through her viral social media videos. The 22 year old songstress is known for combining pop, indie, hyperpop, and R&B into one seamless sound. During her performance, she captured the heartstrings of all in attendance with her cheeky lyrics and playful melodies. Following directly after was Vietnamese American singer thuy. With a nostalgic R&B sound and stories of love and self-empowerment to tell, she has been making big noise in the industry. Songs like ‘playing tricks‘, ‘chances‘, and ‘no ties‘ were all the vibes throughout her performance. She went on to close with ‘girls like me don’t cry‘ which has over 67 million streams alone on Spotify. photo credits: lindseyblane photo credits: estherjy.kim Another sensation act that performed on day 1 was wave to earth, a three-member band consisting of singer-songwriter Daniel Kim, drummer Dong Kyu Shin, and bassist John Cha. The rock band’s soulful vocals and soothing compositions was a calming experience in attendance before the next act. Taking the stage at 7:45pm was ILLENIUM and Dabin who performed their first ever B2B set in history. It was at this point during the day in which the atmosphere changed up dramatically. Their performance was high strung peak energy, commanding the 10,000 in attendance with their melodic dubstep set. The production was spectacular as well, with no shortage of pyrotechnics and vibrant visuals. To close out day 1 was the five member South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE. Walking onto stage with a drumroll, the group opened with ‘Super Lady’ which was fitting for what they embody. Their whole performance was packed brim with electrifying energy as they sang out popular tracks such as ‘LION’, ‘LATATA‘, ‘Wife, and ‘Queencard‘. They then closed out in epic fashion with ‘I DO‘. photo credits: Bryan.Kwon . photo credits: lindseyblane Starting off day 2 was Chinese Vietnamese American rapper Spence Lee, who wowed the early attendees with his crowd pleasing rap bars. Next up was Indonesian rapper, singer, songwriter and producer, Warren Hue, who continued to hype up the crowds with his rap verses. American singer-songwriter Lyn Lapid took centerstage at 5pm, and this was when the venue was really filling up. Besides her intricate lyrics, what’s interesting is that her 2023 EP to love in the 21st century, is an ode to the messy 21st century love romances. She drew inspiration from Gen Z romantic comedies like To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Summer I Turned Pretty to tell the story of falling in love. She went on to sing crowd favorites such as ‘In My Mind’, ‘Comatose’, all while wowing the crowd with her guitar riffs. Next up was the Japanese girl group ATARASHII GAKKO!. The group is known for eclectic-pop tracks, idiosyncratic choreography, and schoolgirl aesthetic. This was the first time I saw them perform live and their crowd presence is even more immense than what you see on videos online. Deafening cheers echoed through the venue throughout their whole performance. The group started off with ‘Toryanse‘ and ‘Omakase‘ which immediately got the crowd moving. Their intricate choreography is definitely one to applaud for as they performed perfectly in sync. They even utilized broomsticks in their performance for ‘Arigatou‘. Next up was South Korean singer Bibi who doesn’t need an introduction. She stuns in her performances with her unique sound that’s like a pop mix with contemporary. Some notable highlight of her performance was when she sang ‘City Love‘ and ‘Sugar Rush‘. To close out the festival was Joji who has become synonymous with Head in the Clouds, so much that he has a track called ‘Head In The Clouds‘ which has over 88 million streams on Spotify. It was a full hour of being serenaded with crowd favorites such as ‘Sanctuary‘, ‘Daylight‘, and ‘Pretty Boy’. He went on to close out the night with ‘Glimpse of Us‘, with everyone waving their phone flashlights in the air. photo credits: lindseyblane photo credits: lindseyblane The post [Event Review] Head in The Clouds NY Festival Celebrates 2nd Edition In Style appeared first on EDMTunes.

The Iconic ‘Café Del Mar’ Gets Two New Remixes From Orbital And Michael Mayer
A dancefloor timeless classic just got reimagined by quite the heavyweights. Looking back a couple of decades, certain songs grew to be turning points in the history of Dance music. Acts such as John Summit’s appearance changing how we perceive Tech House, or how Afterlife came by and redefined Techno from the warehouses and dark rooms to the open air, although recent, are clear examples of points in time when music changed. And perhaps one of the first huge turning points in Dance music came with the Trance movement back in the 90s. Kind of like the 80s equivalent in Electronic music, so many iconic tunes come from that decade. ‘For An Angel’, ‘Children’, ‘Played-A-Live’, and so, SO many more. Well, one of those special tracks in Dance music history has got to be Energy 52‘s timeless ‘Café Del Mar‘. Café Del Mar The 1993 release became an absolute anthem of Trance. Produced by German DJs Kid Paul and Cosmic Baby and named after the famous Ibiza beach bar, the track became synonymous with the island’s euphoric, sun-kissed club scene. With its mesmerising melodies and uplifting harmonies, it became a staple for DJs at sunset sets the world over. It even topped Mixmag’s ‘Top 100 Tunes of All Time’ back in 2001. The double-edged sword of a classic track is precisely that. Everybody loves it, and everybody wants to get their hands on it. Can you count the amount of remixes they’ve done to ‘Silence’ over the years? Me neither. That’s what I’m talking about. With a track with such a rich history, it’s bound to happen that over the years people flood the internet with their own takes. And it’s tough to separate the “meh” from the really good renditions. Well, two really good renditions were just unleashed today. Meet the remixers, Orbital and Michael Mayer. Orbital Pioneering British duo Orbital, known for their ground-breaking live shows and seminal tracks like ‘Halcyon and On and On‘ and their remix of Golden Girls’ ‘Kinetic‘, are still shaping the scene after three entire decades. Their 2024 album — Orbital (The Green Album Expanded) — and following tour show they can blend modern sounds with their signature style, solidifying their legendary status. Their take on ‘Café Del Mar’ is a nod to the past, a lovely blend of elements from yesterday that are so tasty when combined. Highly resonant saws meet the soft plucky tones of the original track, surrounded by nostalgic pads, all resting gracefully over a Breakbeat platform. A true example of minimalistic productions gone absolutely right. No element is a filler: every sound has a purpose. Michael Mayer One of the largest in Cologne’s scene, Michael Mayer co-founded the influential Kompakt label. His work spans genres as varied as Microhouse to Ambient Techno. Renowned for his meticulous remixes and collaborations, he adds yet another milestone to his discography today. His remix explores all things hypnotic, tribal, highly energetic and uplifting. Back to the four-on-the-floor vibe, Mayer’s take makes use of more open synths, slightly distorted drum patterns, white noise, and delivers something that we can only describe as the perfect in-between of past and present. Listen to these banging new remixes for ‘Café Del Mar‘, courtesy of Orbital and Michael Mayer, below. Stay tuned to our page for the latest news and views from our beloved Dance industry. You Need to Hear the Tale of “Walmart Summit”
The social media age is a wild thing, and a living meme can be created with just one social media post. Have you heard the tale of “Walmart Summit”? We’re not talking about baldie John Summif. It’s the hilarious but tragic tale of a John Summit fanboy who learned a very hard lesson from John. He had his dreams come true (in more ways than one) only to have his entire world crumble before him as a result, all in the span of about an hour. As the story goes, a young guy blind texts John Summit a selfie, apparently right after a sexual encounter with a girl who knows the real DJ. The girl reportedly told him she only had sex with him because he looked like a “Walmart version” of John Summit. The story must check out because she gave this guy John’s real number and his text was received. John Summit posted a screenshot of the text to his Instagram story. The thing is, Walmart Summit has a girlfriend (WHOOPS!) and now his infidelity has been broadcast to the entire world. He then proceeds to blow up John’s phone begging him to delete the post because he’s going to get caught and his life would be ruined. He was forced to learn a hard life lesson from the Experts Only boss. John said “sorry, but you made your bed and now you have to lay in it.” Are we sure John wasn’t a life coach, in addition to an accountant, prior to his DJ life? It’s not all bad though. We’re pretty sure Walmart Summit will get plenty of fresh attention now. Plus, John promised to list him for an upcoming show and “put in a good word to the ladies” for him. i hate cheaters but i love a good comeback story.. walmart summit i got u on list to any upcoming show and i’ll put in a good word for u to the ladies, chin up king the best is yet to come — John Summit (@johnsummit) May 17, 2024 The post You Need to Hear the Tale of “Walmart Summit” appeared first on EDMTunes.

Esther Anaya ushers in 2024 with her spirited, vocal-centric new single, “Higher Self.” This release marks Anaya’s first of the year, following a prolific 2023 that saw the DJ and musician drop three impactful tracks: “Sweet Dreams,” “Fiesta,” and “Before I Go.” “‘Higher Self’ is a song that talks about your transition from the lowest version of yourself to your best version and mastering your higher self. Getting out of my comfort and tapping into my spiritual higher self for guidance and forgetting about all the negativity & obstacles around me that were trying to pull me down in life,” Anaya shared. Trance Icon ATB Announces Final Studio Album
Trance music's celestial architect, ATB, has announced his final studio album, bringing a poignant closure to a career that soundtracked a generation's daydreams. The German dance music legend, who has been active for roughly three decades, is releasing his last studio album in 2025, according to a press release shared with EDM.com. He has not announced a concrete release date at the time of this writing. 10 studio albums and over 55 Gold and Platinum records later, ATB's euphoric music continues to enrapture fans. From the timeless vocals of "9PM (Till I Come)" to the blissed-out grandeur of "Ecstasy," many of his songs are considered generational classics in trance lore. Back in 2021, we asked the influential producer what drove him to continue making music. "You know, when I was five and 10 years old, I used to take instruments and create new melodies. It's always been a goal for me to make melodies that survived over the years," ATB told us in an interview at the time. "Whenever someone comes to me and tells me that a song of mine brought them through really rough times, I tell myself, 'Okay, that's why I'm doing music.' So this is what drives me to do more music. I can be in other people's lives through my music and it's a good feeling." As the final radiant crescendo echoes from his studio, ATB is launching a 2024 tour, ironically billed as "Don't Stop." Kicking off today, the summer tour "will allow the fans to hear all the ATB classics but with special attention given to unreleased music that will appear on the final studio album," per the press release. With a busy release schedule that has seen him dropping tracks like ‘Sulfur’ and, recently, a remix of Sundrej Zohar’s ‘Blackout’, Ornery is surely retaining his momentum as he drops a new must-listen release once again. Versatile in his talents and musicianship, working as a Producer, DJ, Label Owner, and Sound Engineer, Ornery comes to music production from the perspective of an experienced professional. Having had releases on top labels like Stellar Fountain and Kitchen Recordings, along with appearances at some of Berlin’s most renowned venues and showcases worldwide, Ornery is fast establishing a place within the genre, continuing to captivate with each expression of his creativity. John Summit & Sub Focus Team Up On ‘Go Back’
John Summit and Sub Focus are among the top names today in the house and drum & bass genres respectively and they have unleashed an awesome track, ‘Go Back’, on May 15. This track also has Julia Church providing the vocal support and it blends top-notch, high-quality melodies of house and drum & bass altogether. ‘Go Back’ utilizes John Summit’s talents in house music production while the second half has that powerful DnB kick that made Sub Focus a household name in the genre, particularly the rhythmic builds and drop that made the track a must-hear for the weekend. The two artists debuted their collaborative track back at an event at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, which also featured Dimension, Culture Shock, and 1991 as the headliners, when Sub Focus brought out John Summit on stage. John Summit and Sub Focus debuting ‘Go Back’ at that event got the crowds dancing right from the start. Additionally, the track’s debut proved it will become a hit that fans will never cease to stop playing repeatedly. Click ‘Play’ on the Spotify link of the track below, which will become a huge fusion banger in the forthcoming summer. John Summit explains his love of DnB and how he combined his house sound on the collaborative ‘Go Back’ alongside Sub Focus and Julia Church: “I’ve always loved drum and bass and knew I wanted to combine my sound with it somehow. As a fan of Sub Focus and his use of combining strong vocals with infectious melodies, similarly to my style, I knew there was potential. Being able to come together and truly combine our two styles worked out even better than we both anticipated. Seeing the crowds’ reactions to our production + Julia Church’s incredible vocals has been unreal!” -John Summit Sub Focus brings out details of how the production of ‘Go Back’ came into fruition: “I’ve always thought mine and John’s styles were quite similar but we lived in different genres so I was excited to get the chance to work together when he was over here on tour. We came up with the idea of speeding up the tempo in the middle of the song between House and Drum n Bass inspired by a drum and bass remix of Lil Louis – French Kiss that I used to love back in the day. It’s been amazing to see crowds from around the world respond to the song and the energy uplift that this tempo change creates.” -Sub Focus The post John Summit & Sub Focus Team Up On ‘Go Back’ appeared first on EDMTunes.

Damian Lazarus Implements A ‘No-Phone’ Policy For His Upcoming Hï Ibiza Residency
In a modern world where everything is documented through cell phones, nobody ever really experiences an event first-hand. Well now, more and more artists are taking action to change that by implementing a ‘no phone’ policy at their shows. The latest to join the trend and the first to officially enforce it in Ibiza is Damian Lazarus, who just announced his upcoming Hï Ibiza shows will be cell phone-free. The world-renowned DJ and producer will perform a summer residency at Hï Ibiza’s Club Room on Saturdays from May 18th through October 5th. He announced the ‘no phones’ policy on social media earlier this week, stating he promises to ‘deliver the very best underground electronic music’ in one of the ‘best club spaces in the world.’ The ‘No-Phone’ Movement Others have joined in on the global ‘no phones’ movement, including James Hype and MEDUZA, both of whom are scheduled to perform at Hï Ibiza this summer as well. Just last October, The DJs announced their own campaign against excessive phone use at shows. ‘Musicians and performers often find it disheartening to see audiences through the lens of a camera rather than through their eyes. It can disrupt the intimate connection between artist and audience that makes house music so powerful as a genre of music.’ -James Hype & MEDUZA in a joint statement. MEDUZA and Hype also explained constant recording of live events can also jeopardize individual privacy, in which fellow attendees may feel uncomfortable being recorded without their consent. Others to join the trend include popular dance music trio Wavedash, who recently announced an initiative to cover attendees’ smartphone cameras with stickers that read, ‘Social media? No thanks.’ Lane 8 implemented a similar initiative a few years back, which one could argue kicked off the movement altogether. As far back as 2018, the producer’s This Never Happened shows have required attendees to place a sticker over their smart phones or place their phones in a pouch at the door. It will be interesting to see how this movement plays out in the coming years, as technology continues in its ubiquity. In the meantime, you can enjoy the magic of a cell phone-free live experience at Lazarus’ upcoming residency at the world renowned club this summer. Tickets are available here. Astara – Career Highlights Interview
Astara has steadily been building momentum since embarking on his musical journey, developing a signature style that appears distinct, his music continues to resonate with audiences around the globe. So today, we’re looking forward to being joined in conversation with the talented Producer to discuss his career so far, looking at the moments that stand out to him: from his first release, ‘Alone Tonight’, to delving into the inspirations that continue to motivate him, join us as we present this exclusive interview with Astara. Hi Astara! How have you been? What’s new? Hi! I am doing very, very well! Working on a new batch of songs for the summer and finalizing the signing of my forthcoming song “Walk Through Fire” as well! Busy times, but good times! What sparked your passion to pursue a career in music? Good question. My primary goal in pursuing music was to write songs that would resonate with people. I think we all have had that experience at a music festival or venue where we have felt a strong sense of connection with an Artist. But for me, it’s the quiet moments—on a train, on a ski trip, or on a rainy afternoon at home—where I feel the strongest connection to music and the Artists that create it. As a result, I have hoped my music would be compelling enough that people would feel encouraged to listen to it while going about their day—living their lives. After all, I think it’s the greatest honour to have an audience that appreciates your music and invites your songs into their daily routines. At what point in the beginning of your career, did you decide to make the move to Nashville and leave NYC? What was it that helped you make that decision and why? I finished college at Northwestern University in Chicago in late 2019 and headed down to Nashville immediately to start work in the music industry. Really, I just wanted to be in a place that had a solid energy and a robust music scene. What’s more, since I was born in North Carolina and have family here, I have always felt a connection to the South. Once I got to Nashville, I worked at an Americana music magazine and conducted interviews and wrote feature stories for the publication. It was a good way to get my feet wet in this town, and it introduced me to a lot of music I never had listened to before! What are some of your early career milestones that helped you gain recognition in Electronic Music today? I don’t look at milestones really. I think it’s better to keep your eyes in front of you and chart a solid path forward. I was happy with my first release “Alone Tonight” and some of the moderate success it experienced, but I know I have a lot more records in my catalogue, and I am excited to share those soon. Which achievement or recognition in your career has meant the most to you personally? I was very happy with my song “No Use,” which I released in early 2023. I felt that that song was a solid interpretation of Hayley Williams’s original, and I loved how my friend performed the vocals for it. It is a song I am very proud of to this day. How do you feel your music has evolved and changed over time, and what influences have shaped your sound now? I think melody has always been the primary driving force behind my records—with rhythm and percussion taking the backseat to it. But more recently, I think I have improved my ability to write basslines and drum grooves. As a result, I think the songs I have written this winter and spring have reflected a greater balance between these key elements. Additionally, I have always favored darker, underground music, but this year I have felt more emboldened to write these kinds of records. As a result, I will soon be releasing some underground tracks as well. One of them is a song I have been working on called “Dream Sequence,” which I’ve teased in a couple of guest mixes recently. I am very excited to release this one! Which collaborations with vocalists have been pivotal to your music career? I have had a number of great projects with vocalists—several of those Artists I count as friends. I couldn’t really pick one, because they have all been important to me and taught me different lessons. I think overall it’s just vital to get in the studio and chop it up with folks. You can’t sit in your room or a studio alone—you must get perspective from other Artists, particularly those with vocal talent, in my opinion! What are some of your favorite releases you are proud to have produced? These three are my favorites so far! 1. ‘Walk Through Fire’ (unreleased) 2. ‘No Use’ (released in 2023) 3. ‘DSCO Girl’ (released in 2023) With your disposition for bringing more lyric-based tracks into Electronic Music, were there some tracks of yours’ you felt had achieved that Nashville songwriting influence? Yes. My song “True Companion.” I didn’t write the lyrics though. It was a cover of a Marc Cohn song from the early 1990s. I learned of the song’s original version while I was here in Nashville, and it struck me as a quintessential Nashville-style composition. There’s narrative depth, development, and ultimately lyrical grace. When I made my version, I took the vocal which has that heartfelt lyricism, and I got in touch with a great singer here named Grant (who sang the cover), and I just created an instrumental that I felt embodied my sound at the time. This crossover really challenged me as a Producer. It wasn’t so easy to get the instrumental right If I’m being honest. I also did some rearranging with the lyrics in order to modernize the song. I think it took me 3-4 months to finally get the drop right on it and finalize the arrangement. Ultimately, integrating these disparate influences was a rewarding experience for me though, and I was happy with the result! What are some of your projects or aspirations for the future of your music career? I would love to open a venue here in Nashville. That’s my foremost aspiration right now. I feel like there aren’t enough good Dance music venues in this town, and it would be great to change that. Jason Aldean, Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and so many other Country musicians have big bars on Broadway or at least some kind of live venue in this town. All I’m sayin’ is, can’t we get one solid venue for the Dance music crowd!? So that’s up there as a big goal for me right now! Other than that, I just want to continue to grow my project, and we’ll see where that takes me. I’m just grateful that I have been able to make music and express myself thus far—it’s a great gift to have that opportunity. I look forward to the journey ahead! Having already begun making a name for himself within Electronic Music with dynamic releases and collaborations alongside other gifted Artists, we’re sure that Astara will continue with his current trajectory, taking to new ground as he keeps discovering fresh and exciting ways to stand out. So, a talent to keep watching, make sure to follow Astara via social media. Astara Online Instagram | Spotify | Website The post Astara – Career Highlights Interview appeared first on Electic Mode.

Hardwell & Mitch Crown’s ‘Call Me A Spaceman’ Celebrates 12th Anniversary
Astonishingly it’s been 12 years since the release of what is Hardwell’s most iconic song ‘Call Me A Spaceman.’ Originally it was released as an instrumental called ‘Spaceman’ on the 23rd January 2012, but only a few months later Hardwell came back with a new version with the now unforgettable vocals added by the Dutch singer Mitch Crown to create this legendary hit that he released on his record label Revealed Recordings. This song made Hardwell one of the biggest names in Electronic Music and would kickstart his journey to becoming the king of Big Room House. Hardwell had already been making a name for himself in the couple years before the release of ‘Call Me A Spaceman’ collaborating with other big names on the scene such as Nicky Romero, Showtek, Dannic and even Tiesto with their song ‘Zero 76.’ But ‘Call Me A Spaceman’ would launch him from a recognisable DJ to a household name on the Electronic Music scene. On July 28th 2012 he would perform at the biggest festival in the world, Tomorrowland, where he would open his set with the now iconic track. Since its release, Hardwell has gone on to dominate the Big Room House scene and pioneer the genre of Big Room Techno which was the staple of his latest album ‘Rebels Never Die.’ The deluxe edition of this album would also include a brand-new version of ‘Spaceman’ which incorporated the unmistakable melody with Hardwell’s new style to create a huge festival banger to be heard and felt for miles around. Even 12 years on from its release ‘Call Me A Spaceman’ is considered one of the biggest songs in Electronic Music history and it will stay that way for many years to come. The thumping kick and infectious melody will forever echo around the minds of everyone who’s heard it and provide many more fists pumping in the air in ecstasy.
