  2. Café Mambo Ibiza lands ‘under the bridge’ this summer as the iconic dance music brand brings a host of top-tier DJ talent together to relive the massive dance tunes that soundtracked Ibiza for generations of clubbers. In partnership with Mixology, Café Mambo Ibiza’s ‘Classics Under The Bridge’ drops a shower of Balearic glitter on ‘UNDER’, the unique, urban location beneath the Nene Flyover in Peterborough. Up to two thousand clubbers will gather on Saturday, 15th June for an outdoor party like no other. Serving up the timeless Ibiza classics are Judge Jules, Todd Terry, Lovely Laura & Ben Santiago, Phats & Small, and Shades Of Rhythm. Tickets for this unmissable event are available for just £34.95 (+ booking fee) from www.under.events/mambo. For 30 years, Café Mambo Ibiza has been synonymous with Ibiza sunsets and quality dance music. Mambo has played host to every big name in dance music, not to mention the infamous BBC Radio 1 Ibiza weekends. ‘Classics Under The Bridge’ will be a spectacular celebration of those true Ibiza classics in a location that harks back to the original spirit of rave. Judge Jules steps up to the Mambo turntables. Jules has played a pivotal role in dance music since the 90’s. With Pete Tong, he kicked off the weekend clubbing adventures for the nation via his hugely popular Radio 1 show. Few DJs know Ibiza better than Jules. His Judgement Sunday night in Ibiza was a must-visit and focal point for the San Antonio club scene. He knows every Ibiza classic and is sure to drop the biggest and best for those who make the journey to Peterborough. Todd Terry is another bonafide house music legend. His productions through the late 80’s and 90’s such as his remixes of ‘I’ll House You’ by Jungle Brothers and ‘Missing’ by Everything But The Girl, helped shape the direction of house music. Responsible for classics like ‘Keep On Jumpin’ and ’Something Goin’ On’, the Indeep label boss remains a hugely-in-demand DJ and regularly produces new house music anthems. He’ll dig deep to get everyone under the bridge jumping. Anyone who’s been to Ibiza will know Lovely Laura & Ben Santiago. The sax and DJ duo have a long-running love affair with Ibiza. Regulars at Café Mambo, have held residencies at all the best spots on the white isle. Ben spins the massive house classics while Laura improvises on the sax, both vibing off each other to create an unforgettable set. You can’t discuss Ibiza classics without including ‘Turn Around’ by Phats & Small. ‘Classics Under The Bridge’ welcomes the energetic duo to the Mambo decks for the first time and they are ready to invoke the spirit of ‘99 when they scored three top 10 hits, crashed through millions of sales, and won BRIT and MOBO nominations. Peterborough legends Shades Of Rhythm are set for a huge homecoming set as they get UNDER reverberating to the songs of their stone-cold classics ‘Sweet Sensation’, ‘Sounds of Eden’ and more. They land at ‘Classics Under The Bridge’ on a mission to transport the baying crowds back to electronic music’s golden era. Those lucky enough to get a ticket can expect an incredible location, world-class DJs, an immersive, audiovisual spectacle, state-of-the-art production, and classic tunes that are guaranteed to get hands-in-the-air. 3. Who are you? YOO! We are Phase Records DNB. Founded by myself Gifta but pretty much everyone calls me Gabs. Since its creation, I have more or less run the label completely by myself but as we have grown and got busier, my label resident DJ and producer O/MEGA has stepped up into the role of label manager. He helps me with A&R, has great ideas, helps me out with tasks I don’t always feel like doing but need to be done and comes to networking events with me… it helps that we’re also super close friends too because we lead and work together with genuine love and respect. I, and Phase are lucky are to have him! What’s your ethos? Our ethos is to grow and nurture a community of talented and passionate misfits. All of us in Phase have got something a little bit different or quirky about us. Whether that be our sound or personality. We’re close, it’s a family affair! We want to help each other and the people we work with fulfil their potential and have a group of people they can trust, rely on and feel consistently supported by. Tell Us Your Origin Story… I lost my job during the COVID-19 pandemic and took it as a sign to just throw myself into music for a bit. The whole drum and bass scene went online and so did I. I created a Facebook page for myself and others to stream DJ sets from. That’s when I met Premonition. We became close very quickly. After some time of running the streaming page and meeting loads of other DJs and producers, they were like to me “Gabs look, you’re good at this. You can find talent and really motivate people, why don’t you make this a label.” After that, it all just snowballed and got crazy and busy. Now, here we are! Where are you based? I am based in East London but our label is international. We have resident artists dotted about all over the UK and abroad too. We represent talent and music from Italy, Austria, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, America, South Africa, Czech Republic, The Netherlands and Spain. It’s amazing really! London is definitely a tough cookie to crack but we will go wherever we are wanted! Do you have a specific sound or vibe? Our sound and vibe is complex to explain. It’s best described as a theme of darkness. But darkness and dark drum and bass have so many interpretations. Because art and music are subjective right? We want to push this… some people thrive in the dark, some fear it, and some run towards the light at the end of dark tunnels. Equally, some welcome it. I like to believe we are too maximal to be considered a minimal drum and bass label, but too minimal to be a label categorised by purely heavy music. It was during one of our first-ever label nights that we jokingly coined the term ‘Skatamal’ and it kinda just stuck. Do you have a regular artist roster- who can we see releasing with you? We do have a regular roster of producers. My residents tend to take priority in our release schedule. That, currently, includes Dapreme, Xyde, Premonition and their solo alias’, Artillery, R3IDY, Charis, Miyamoro, Ekstatic, Vispera and myself. We also have an extended family who release with us regularly because they really embody our sound, vibe and ethos. So that would be Ominous, Inertia, Kevala, Albees, Furious Freaks and Noise Parfumerie. We also have really exciting releases coming from C-DU, Exile and Coppa and a huge remix album on its way too featuring many of our idols! Tell us about your A&R process… I’m always looking for new producers. I scout hard on Instagram, Soundcloud and Spotify. I’m always networking online and offline and most of our releases have come off the back of building a relationship first. Usually started by me fan-girling in the DM’s over a track or release I’ve heard from the producer. Laurence (O/MEGA) is really good at A&R too and follows my way of doing things with that. We watch people for a while, we get to know people. We’re picky, but we are open-minded and want to work with driven and passionate people who have something unique about them. Laurence knows what I like, but we’re also super honest with each other and with our producers. We want the best for them, we want them to grow, feel supported and we want the best for our label. We’re quite hands on with the entire process. What makes you different from other labels? I do think our community vibe is special and our dedication to growing artists to be well-rounded. We will coach you on absolutely anything and everything. From production to DJing and finding your sound, growing your social media and understanding and navigating the music business world. We also really support artists spreading their wings and finding success outside of our label. I am always looking for opportunities for my people to do things away from the brand because I want to see them fly! Everyone’s goals are different, and we do our best to lead and support with this mind. What does it take to run a bass music label in 2024? Resilience, organisation, patience, discipline, consistency, flair, tenacity, determination, the ability to say ‘no’, visibility… I could go on and on about this! It’s hard work, it takes sacrifice. You have to love what you’re doing and do it with absolute conviction. What have you got coming up we should look out for? We have our own stage at Hospitality on The Beach this year with Waeys headlining our stage. It’s a huge honour for us as a team and I Have to give thanks to Chris Goss and Hospital Records for their belief in me and our team. Aside from that, keep expecting monthly releases and of course our big remix project to start 2025 as well as the continuation of our Between The Beats podcast! 7. “Your Heart,” a stunning EP by Citizen Kain featuring Eleonora and a remix signed Fred Lenix. This intriguing three-tracker weaves emotions and powerful beats to tell an otherworldly story, reading as both emotionally charged and aggressively propelled. The title track, “Your Heart,” is a lovely collaboration with Eleonora. It features her delicate but slightly eerie vocals. The bumpy and jolting bassline allowed the music to move and come alive. They give vitality to the underlying melody and its longing lyrics. The song has a dynamic feel that builds over time, propelling it between strong highs and deeper lows. The chord sequence creates a sense of anticipation throughout, which only eases during the breakdowns and then rises back up. The great Fred Lenix then delivers the hard-hitting remix, complete with echoing drums. This rendition provides the original music with a bouncy yet raw sound. The strings are paired with choppy and layered voices for a well-rounded composition. Rhythmic elements appear and disappear, occasionally combining to produce a sense of depth throughout the track. This mix, infused with expertise and contagious strength, will inspire the listener with powerful and appealing sounds. The EP concludes with “One Day“, a lighter and dreamier composition that elegantly builds its soundscape. Punchy synths and mixed beats create a throbbing ambiance that pulses with energy. The music is laced with hypnotic beats and rhythmic precision to create a compelling and incredibly bright environment. This is a dancefloor hymn that will inspire and rally dancers around the world. From beginning to end, “Your Heart” is a beautifully produced composition. It defies musical conventions while remaining intensely personal and moving. It’s the kind of release that imprints itself on your consciousness and keeps you wondering what divine alchemy Citizen Kain will concoct next. 11. Earlier this year, Phatwell captivated our new music feeds with an emotional single titled ‘Time You Got For Love’. The track was a heartfelt tribute to his close friend Kamal, who tragically took his own life. The single quickly became Phatwell‘s most successful release, resonating deeply with listeners. Many shared how the song helped them appreciate their loved ones more, highlighting its profound impact. Building on this success, Phatwell has now released ‘Get This Feeling’. Dropped just this week, the track continues to showcase the signature Swedish house sound that Phatwell fans adore. ‘Get This Feeling’ instantly transports listeners back to the golden era of 2010, reminiscent of the iconic sounds of Avicii and Basto. However, Phatwell infuses it with a modern twist, making it both nostalgic and fresh. The accompanying vocals perfectly complement the track, enhancing the tone and delivering lyrics that are both familiar and catchy. This seamless blend makes ‘Get This Feeling’ an instant hit. “I just felt like I had to push myself to write a song that had more positive vibes. I could probably write hundreds of songs about Kamal’s suicide and wallow in my grief but I feel like I need to move on. But if you listen a little more carefully, there is desperation and melancholy in this song too.” said Phatwell Stream this single below. Phatwell is also giving back to his loyal fans by offering up the chance to win AirPods, click the banner below for more info.
  12. Axwell is mostly known for his work together with Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, under the legendary name of Swedish House Mafia, but his solo work never disappointed either. In 2013, the Swedish icon released one of his biggest hits and the first song post the Swedish House Mafia breakup, ‘Centre Of The Universe,’ a track which quickly became part of the beautiful image that progressive house holds in electronic music. The emotional instrumental is a masterpiece created by the Swedish DJ, and the piano leads of this song just give goosebumps to those who appreciate every element of a well produced track. With this production, you can feel the passion and love that Axwell has for the job and that he puts in every piece of work he does. Besides an amazing instrumental, Magnus Carlson’s vocals took the song to a different level. The lyrics and the melody of this track is just something magical and can get stuck in the heads of many listeners. ‘Centre Of The Universe’ was premiered by British DJ, Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1 show at the time and has received great love from the audience. This resulted in Pete also naming the track his ‘Essential New Tune,’ and Axwell receiving support from names like Zane Lowe and Danny Howard. The classic also got a remode from Axwell and was used as the intro to his iconic performance on Tomorrowland’s mainstage in 2013. This song truly takes you on a musical journey which speaks about love. It is that kind of track that reminds people of their greatest memories created while listening to it.

Okilly Dokilly, known for their unique ‘Nedal’ genre—a heavy metal style inspired by Ned Flanders from The Simpsons—gained a cult following since their inception in 2015. The band’s whimsical concept, which started as a joke among friends, turned into a serious musical endeavor, even catching the attention of The Simpsons ‘producers. Their track “White Wine Spritzer” was featured in the show’s episode “I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say D’oh.” With the “White Wine Spritzer” remix, CHKLZ “captures and connects all the dots of our past, present, and future!,” says DJ iLL Choppo. 18. Afro-house tastemaker Samantha Black, professionally known as Sam Blacky, has engineered a steepening upward trajectory since COVID released its chokehold on the music industry. In February 2021, Blacky officially launched her original artist catalog with “Too Late,” followed by crowd favorite “Body,” both released on her own record label, Stabby Records. Over time, the San Diego native earned notable co-signs from Repopulate Mars, Thrive Music, and Tom & Collins‘ Terms & Conditions, among other coveted dance labels. Arriving on the heels of Tristan Henry-assisted “Amor,” Blacky recently cemented one of her most triumphant works to date, “Ronaldinho.” Featuring Nigerian singer/songwriter Niniola, “Ronaldinho” is now streaming everywhere via Brooklyn-born record label Easier Said. On May 26th, 2024, on Governors Island in New York City, Blacky played “Ronaldinho” live, for the first time, to an enthused mix of dance music fans during We Belong Here‘s Weekend 1 showcase. As the sun made its descent below the island, Blacky wielded a vibrant two-hour DJ set ahead of SIDEPIECE‘s headline appearance on Sunday evening. In addition to Blacky and SIDEPIECE, We Belong Here enlisted Rinzen, Le Youth, Aluna, and Tita Lau, among others, to tend decks over the course of Memorial Day Weekend. Shortly after her sunset performance, Dancing Astronaut sat down with Sam Blacky to discuss new music, her artistic journey, and more. Read the exclusive Q&A below. Your official discography dates back to 2021. How would you say you’ve since grown as an artist? Sam: “I feel like I’ve changed so much, having had to figure out my sound in the public eye. I started putting out music as soon as I felt the right vibe. When people say how much they love ‘Too Late’ or ‘Body,’ I think about how I don’t even play those records in my sets anymore. The first EP leaned a bit commercial, whereas my evolved sound consists of more tribal and afro-house.” “Ronaldinho” marks your second single on Easier Said in 2024. Can you pinpoint the moment you knew this record was going to be special? Sam: “I’d been working on this beat for a while. One day, Dom, the head of Easier Said, reached out saying, ‘Hey, I know you want to make afro-house.’ He said he had this amazing vocal from Niniola, who’s been nominated for multiple Grammys. When he sent me the vocal, I lost it. I was like, ‘Are you serious? I can have this?’ So I ended up building the song around her vocal, which was the first time I’ve ever done that. The pinnacle was when I got the email approving my use of Niniola’s vocal.” Outside of your style, who or what has influenced your music taste over the years? Sam: “I was hugely influenced by ‘Pogo’ by Digitalism, Surkin’s ‘Hoes Get Down,’ Shake and Pop’ by Green Velvet… I was inspired by The Bloody Beetroots, Crookers… This was around 2006! So, I guess that’s the year that really shaped me.” You’re no stranger to playing at We Belong Here. What about this collective inspires you? Sam: “My first time playing We Belong Here was in Miami earlier this year. All of my friends, worldwide, had been ranting and raving about the festival. I had heard about it, but I didn’t know all the details. My friends would tell me how amazing the shows are. Playing here is incredible. Not only do they kill it as communicators and logistical experts, they foster an incredible vibe, a beautiful stage set up with its flowers… Miami was amazing, but now with the Statue of Liberty in the background and the sunset, it felt like a dream come true. I can’t wait to come back; anytime, anywhere!” Underground or otherwise, who are some of your favorite contemporary female producers? Sam: “Mary Droppinz is definitely an OG favorite of mine, but her style of music is vastly different than mine. I typically don’t like dubstep or drum and bass, so I appreciate the fact that I love her so much. Underground wise, I really love LUMI, ZLATA, Desire, Azzecca, etc!” Can you hint at any future releases that you may or may not have crowd tested tonight? Sam: “I can announce, for the first time on ‘Dancing Astronaut,’ that my Local Singles collab ‘Hot Steppa’ is coming out in July! 20. Our favorite Chicago-based producer, John Summit, has announced the official release date for his debut album. Earlier today, John revealed that Comfort in Chaos will be released on Friday, July 12th via Darkroom/Experts Only. We are excited about the beautiful tie-dye vinyl in his post below! Comfort in Chaos It seems that this might be the most anticipated album of 2024 for us fans. Summit shares that Comfort in Chaos is his most challenging work yet, created with his whole heart and soul. His social media posts have highlighted his musical and emotional growth. And the new music will explore a part of his identity that fans might not be familiar with. This album will touch on his Chicago house roots and also delve into garage, liquid, and dancefloor drum & bass. The artwork for the album will feature artist Marcos Alvarado, a name Summit admires. Alvarado’s artwork will eschew traditional pop branding and delve into themes of consciousness, meditation, and spirituality, tying in with Summit’s hope to channel these themes into his songs. Trying to find peace in chaos is the overarching theme of this album – this is a far more emotional, melodic body of work for me, because it’s my most introspective work to date. John Summit is the performing act, but when I write music I get more vulnerable – while writing this album, I had to go from being in the mindset of John Summit to being John Schuster, my real name John Summit The singles from Comfort in Chaos that you may already know are ‘Go Back’, ‘EAT THE BASS’, and ‘Shiver’. The new collaboration with Julia Church’s vocals and Sub Focus’ drum & bass, ‘Go Back’, has been a favorite since its release. Summit has had a busy year so far, with electrifying performances at Coachella and his Experts Only Weekender. Not to mention the winter pop-up event in Vail! 23. Following a string of viral moments, Disclosure's summery single 'She's Gone, Dance On" has finally hit streaming platforms. The sun-kissed house track, which samples a 1978 song by the late Italian composer Ennio Morricone, first broke online when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were spotted dancing to it during Dom Dolla's set at Coachella. "She’s Gone, Dance On" is an irresistible summertime hit. Disclosure expertly interpolate the infectious sample throughout the dancefloor-ready track, spicing up its production with their anthemic ambiances and bright synth chords. A tune "just made for clubs and DJs" according to Disclosure, "She’s Gone, Dance On" marks the brotherly duo's first single since their fourth studio album Alchemy. That record dropped last year before one of its singles, the breakbeat gem "Higher Than Ever Before," nabbed a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Recording. 24. From being a college athlete to producing his own music, GorillaT made lots of noise—literally—in the dubstep scene in 2023. The 22-year-old artist, whose real name is Tate Warner, started making electronic music just about three years ago and now finds himself performing on headlining tours, festival lineups and popular stages like Excision's "The Thunderdome." For many in the electronic dance music community—or any community for that matter—there is often a show, moment or song that sparks a deeper passion for it. Warner found this to be true when he went to a Subtronics show around three years ago. GorillaT tells EDM.com that his origin story goes like this: "I went to that Subtronics concert, my friends kind of dragged me there, I remember not really wanting to be there too bad, and then the next day I went home and sold my PS4 and like, half of my belongings so that I could buy Ableton." After downloading the music production software, the next step was figuring out his sound and means of promotion. Discussing his initial sound, Warner highlights that because Subtronics was his first show, he spent a long time trying to emulate his music. "When an artist finds an artist that just changes their lives like that, you spend the next year or two trying to make songs exactly like them," he explains. "A lot of my early songs around those times were more me trying to figure out how to make full songs in the style that I wanted." This imitation game didn't last for long, though. "I understand production now to a level where I give online classes, one-on-ones, I mix down people's songs, I have a Patreon," says Warner, who now describes his sound first and foremost as "wonky," the word appearing in the titles of multiple songs. "Once I figured out what style I liked I could just do it by myself in terms of my own sound design and the way that I like melodies to kind of sit together." Despite his success, Warner didn’t always want to be a musician. In fact, he has been a student athlete at Loyola University of New Orleans for the past four years and just recently dropped out to pursue his music career. Now, the only thing that lives on from his past swimming dreams are "a few state records," he says. Growing up in the sublime city of Golden, Colorado, a city near Denver and the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the swimmer-turned-musician was given access to a lively EDM scene that would ultimately cultivate a foundation for the dubstep music he wanted to create. "It’s been in the culture of where I’m from," says Warner, whose experiences at shows by SVDDEN DEATH, Wooli, Virtual Riot and Infekt would eventually influence his own future sound. About halfway into this three-year journey is when Warner found his music garnering more listeners, recognition and fans. His first single "Stoned Ape Theory" was released just about two years ago in 2022, and after releasing 17 other singles on streaming platforms, his first full album came out in late 2023, marrying many of those tracks under one name: Tales Of A Stoned Ape. GorillaT had his first-ever headline show in July in Minneapolis and in 2023 alone has performed at Forbidden Kingdom, Apocalypse and Lost Lands. GorillaT performing at Excision's "The Thunderdome" in Tacoma on February 3rd, 2024.c/o Gridlock Management So how does someone make this much wonky noise in the span of just a few years? We all have an inkling of the answer to this question: social media. Warner attributes much of his success to the various platforms that fall under the umbrella term. "I just don’t see a better way to promote myself as an artist," he says. “To do what a record label would’ve done for $10,000 I can just get on my phone and spend a few days posting videos." With this strategy, Warner finds himself quickly gaining velocity in the industry. "The people that truly understand that are the people that are going to have a way easier time breaking into this," he says. Warner values social media not only as a marketing tool, but also as a way to show transparency and gratitude to fans, collaborators and the venues who book him. "These people make a living for me!" says Warner. "I wouldn’t be able to do this without all the fans." As a result, he finds that he is easily approachable at shows when he ventures into the crowd. He also finds that a perfect concoction of social connection with fans and being a perceptive DJ results in an explosion of positive feedback. "I feel like half the reason they come out to these shows is because they want to see you onstage—of course they love your music. The baseline of all of this is perfecting your craft, and from there you can use social media to do whatever you want really.” To supplement people seeing him onstage, Warner tries to read each room thoroughly so the crowd likes what they hear. "It seems like every place I go, they vibe with just slightly different things that I’m dropping and that’s why it’s good to be a good DJ and be able to switch stuff up.” GorillaT.c/o Gridlock Management With the new attention his music and DJing is receiving comes new collaborations and knowledge. Warner says that these collaborations aided in the creation and evolution of GorillaT’s sound and brand. “It’s so awesome to collab with people because I always learn so much about their work flow and what works for them,” he says. Upcoming collaborations Warner hints at include work with ProbCause, Hostage Situation, Ahee and Steller. New visuals and merchandise are also in the works that feel happy, trippy and welcoming, he says. With a growing platform, though, comes growing scrutiny and a greater chance for burnout. Warner highlights that a career contingent on a computer and internet can easily blur the line between work and play. "It always feels like play until there are deadlines,” Warner says with a laugh while stressing the importance of self-care. "I’m able to make the best music when everything surrounding the music is on the right path." It looks to Warner like this momentum is not going to slow anytime soon—and it also hasn't quite sunk in. "I don’t think I believe it yet," he says in disbelief. "I don’t think it’ll ever change, that aspect of how grateful I feel for all of this." Fans of GorillaT can catch him at upcoming performances at Ottawa's Escapade Music Festival and Excision's Paradise Blue in Cancún, among other tour stops in 2024.
