  1. Got a fresh techno heater for you to dissolve your brain cells to. The one and only Eli Brown just dropped a new collab with fellow techno destroyer Lilly Palmer called “Gasoline” and let me tell you, this one’s an absolute rager. I’ve been following Brown‘s releases for a while now after getting turned on to that mean “Escape” EP he put out on Insomniac’s Factory93 label back in 2021. This new “Gasoline” track landed on the same esteemed imprint, which makes total sense given how this is pretty much a turnt-up, adrenaline-fueled DJ tool primed to ignite the most rambunctious underground parties. From the very first kick, “Gasoline” just does not let up. It’s a full-on techno assault of pummeling beats, snarling distorted basslines, and these wild rave synth arpeggios that’ll have you pulling a Gollum face on the dancefloor. And the way Brown and Palmer wield those demented vocal samples is just twisted – one minute they’re burying them under murky filters, the next they’re chopping them up into haunting lingua franca for the techno hellscape they’ve constructed. Dudes know how to work a build too. There’s this one part where the kicks and hi-hats get vacuumed up by what sounds like a black hole voice until you’re straight up dry heaving for the droppppp…and then WHAM! Air horn cityyyyyy. Absolute primal techno tantrum designed to shatter beer bottles. Brown’s been putting out some seriously well-rounded dance music the past few years from tech house to deep techno to downright emotional vocal collabs. But “Gasoline” sees him and Palmer fully unhinged in psycho-purebred techno mode. No pretenses, no chill vibes…just blown subs and ruptured mushroom circuits aimed squarely at the darkest, most depraved after-hour havens. Don’t sleep, get gassin’! 2. For electronic music producer Marsh, his latest single “Warrior” is far more than just another release. The uplifting yet goosebump-inducing progressive house track is a musical salute to his lifelong best friend Jimmy. He has been waging a courageous battle against Leukaemia since his diagnosis in 2022. As Marsh puts pen to paper to describe the inspiration behind “Warrior”, his words transcend the dancefloor. His new song takes the listener inside the beautiful friendship that has defined his life. “Jimmy is so much more than just my best friend – he’s like a brother to me,” the UK-bred, US-based artist shares. “We forged our incredible bond as kids getting into mischief, playing video games, sports, even discovering the trance music we both fell in love with together.” Those shared experiences, spanning decades from childhood into adulthood, made Jimmy’s cancer diagnosis hit exponentially harder. Yet in the face of such adversity, Marsh watched his best friend display a resilience and fighting spirit nothing short of heroic. “His journey battling this disease has been an inspiration, a testament to his strength,” Marsh continues. “I wanted to dedicate ‘Warrior’ to Jimmy as a humble tribute, celebrating the champion he’s been through this incredibly difficult fight.” The single’s aptly titled, as “Warrior” sees Marsh translating Jimmy’s unyielding spirit into a true progressive house anthem. Waves of ethereal melodies and rapturous builds conjure the emotional capacity of two friends. The record’s most powerful moment hits when the euphoric chords finally reach their peak – a fistpump-worthy salute to Jimmy’s incredible recent news of two consecutive clear cancer scans. “I’m just so proud of him and grateful to have my best friend, my brother, by my side,” Marsh shares. With “Warrior” he’s not only paid tribute to their bond through music, but doubled down on his support for the cause. He launched the record with an exclusive event in London donating all proceeds to the charity Leukaemia UK, with another livestream at Kew Gardens likewise raising funds. As Marsh’s touring schedule ramps up and he prepares for his new “Aria” live show, “Warrior” is sure to be a set centerpiece and reminder of what’s most important – the persevering human spirit and the immeasurable power of friendship. 7. Nearly 25 years after forever changing the fabric of digital music distribution, it seems Napster is still focused on innovation. This time around, they're experimenting with a more unconventional form of marketing: fortune cookies. Napster, which is now a streaming service, has partnered with OpenFortune, a marketing company whose mission is rooted in promoting brands through fortune cookies distributed to restaurants. Their campaign will embed papers with QR codes into cookies to promote individual artists as well as the Napster platform, giving them a three-month free trial. Over 50 million fortune cookies will be distributed, Music Ally reports. While it might seem silly on the surface, it's tough to deny the creativity of promoting music through an after-dinner snack. We're not aware of any data from OpenFortune elucidating how much a campaign like this can affect streaming numbers, but time will tell if their strategy is worth baking into a music release rollout. my fortune cookie is brought to you by napster lmao pic.twitter.com/9hSlp3zAw6 — just matt for supreme court (@questionableway) March 28, 2024

  12. We’ve been hotly anticipating the release of Sinners‘ latest compilation ‘Brightness Pt. 2.’ This innovative label has a knack for curating lineups of ridiculously talented artists that blow my mind. And let me tell you, they’ve truly outdone themselves this time around. Just look at the names gracing this tracklist. Reading the artists featured gets us giddy with excitement. I’ve had Esoteric Circle‘s breathtakingly atmospheric sounds on repeat lately, getting lost in their lush, gauzy textures. But I’m just as hyped for the abrasive experimentation Polygraph is sure to bring to the table. And AGAP? Their emotive songwriting always leaves me with a puddle of feelings. Then you’ve got heavyweights like Haffenfold and Analog Context who have mastered crafting these utterly hypnotic, enveloping soundscapes. Just thinking about getting submerged in their immersive productions gives me chills. But Swanborn is the wild card that really intrigues me. Whenever I listen, it’s like reality glitches and I’m experiencing music from another dimension. Weird in all the best ways. Each artist’s contribution to ‘Brightness Pt. 2′ is going to complement and elevate the others’ into some kind of transcendental musical experience. I’m bracing myself because this album is about to blow my mind into an astral plane. These are the kinds of releases that reshape my entire concept of what music can be. Listening is going to be a religious experience. ‘Brightness Pt. 2‘ glimpse true brilliance and having my soul forever altered. Sinners has done it again, and I can’t wait to have my existence rocked. The post Sinners releases melodic compilation ‘Brightness Pt. 2’ appeared first on The Groove Cartel.
  13. French production duo 2smile makes a poignant return with their latest single, “Tribute To Frikkyo,” paying homage to the late DJ ‘Da Frikkyo,’ an influential figure in the Italian hard techno scene. Crafted on the night of Frikkyo’s passing, the duo recalls their creative process as deeply spiritual, describing it as if guided by an ethereal presence. “Tribute To Frikkyo” seamlessly blends exhilarating guitars and rich basslines with sampled vocals from the legendary Fela Kuti. This fusion of elements creates a captivating sonic experience, celebrating the life and legacy of a beloved friend. Following a string of successive releases on their Ondawey Music imprint, blending styles spanning Melodic Techno, Tech House, and Afro House, 2smile‘s latest export showcases their production prowess and ingenuity for eclecticism. This hasn’t gone unnoticed, with “Tribute To Frikkyo” already leaving an impression on industry heavyweights such as Laurent Garnier, Terry Francis, Deer Jade, Mike Van Brugge, Paco Osuna, Steve Lawler, and Don Diablo. With an Arsenal of over 100 unreleased tracks, fluidly mixing genres whilst incorporating elements of music from across the world, 2smile’s consistent output of high calibre, club ready floor fillers combined with their abundant stage presence solidifies their position as one of the most exciting emerging acts to watch this year. 14. The talented producer Teho is back with another insanely infectious, intricately crafted melodic trip called “Rising.” If you’re familiar with their work, you know Teho has an uncanny ability to craft these lush, atmospheric soundscapes that just wrap you up and transport you somewhere else entirely. “Rising” is the latest glimpse into Teho’s melodic mind, and it’s a tantalizing one. The melodies are intricate and evolving, the synth work is rich and layered – it has all the hallmarks of a Teho production that you just get completely lost in. But there’s definitely an evolution in their sound happening here too. As a single flagging their forthcoming album “Shifting,” “Rising” hints that Teho is taking their brand of hyper-melodic, cinematic dance music to even grander heights. The lead melodies on this track are simply sublime, washing over you in waves of blissed-out beauty. And the cadence and groove underneath it all? Chef’s kiss – it’s got that addictive, body-moving energy that’ll have you locked into the groove. What’s wildest is how Teho seamlessly melds the huge, spine-tingling melodic moments with these subtler, more nuanced interludes and layers that reveal themselves more with each listen. It’s dense and immersive as anything they’ve done, but with a deftness of touch that’s incredibly impressive. If “Rising” is any indication, “Shifting” is gonna see Teho taking their cinematic, deeply textured productions to new heights. The melodies will soar, the soundscapes will engulf you, and you’ll be helpless but to surrender to the groove. Get hyped, because this is setting up to be Teho’s most powerful full-length yet. 15. Parra For Cuva, a German electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist, releases the third song from his highly anticipated fifth studio album in April. It’s called “Pinie.” Orbit, a rising DJ and producer, has been tapped by Parra For Cuva to create a seductive sound trip for Pinie. This shows how well the two can work together. The track is the last thing he’s put out before his new record, Mimose, comes out. ‘Pinie‘ takes listeners into a private and mysterious world, inspired by a deep link made during a retreat in Liguria, Italy. Nicolas and I crafted the song in a quaint garden shed on the coast of Italy. I remember swaying to the melodies all night, sharing laughter, cigarettes, and the company of my brother Patrick and our friend – Orbit A sense of wanderlust runs through Parra For Cuva’s music, which takes listeners to faraway places with its beautiful melodies and images. He has made a name for himself as a real artist in the electronic music scene by combining different kinds of music, from Caribbean steel drums to old Zimbabwean instruments. Each live show is a sensory experience that has been carefully chosen to go with the unique and alien style of his music. The artist has played to sold-out crowds at E1 and KOKO, most recently at Drumsheds for Drumcode on a bill with Adam Beyer, Yotto, Kolsch, and others, and will soon be at Junction 2. It looks like 2024 will be a terrible year for Parra for Cuva. As people wait for “Mimose” and other releases, Parra For Cuva’s mesmerizing music and captivating performances are ready to captivate audiences all over the world. 16. Groove Armada and Mark Knight joined forces with Knght remixing “Get Down” – a dance floor holy grail. The original is an iconic Groove Armada anthem released over 20 years ago. The vocals and synths are instantly recognizable with the tune ingrained in dance music history. Knight was thrilled about the opportunity. As the Toolroom founder, reimagining this beloved classic was an honor. The result is pure adrenaline with the remix distilling dancefloor passion. From the first time we hit play, the tune is clearly a rip-roaring, peak-time monster. DJs like Danny Howard and Dombresky can’t resist playing it with dance floors explode with feverish energy. Knight’s take stays true to the original’s soul with an infectious groove that breathes new excitement. Set to be featured on her forthcoming album ‘Below Dawn’ (Releasing on Friday, 10th May via Tru Thoughts), the track was produced by Ben Lamdin, also known as Nostalgia 77, from the same label. Bryony’s previous singles garnered significant backing from BBC Introducing, Jazz FM, and Huey Morgan (BBC 6Music).” The song “Willow” starts with the lyrics “Willow won’t you grow and shelter me? There is a nonsense I do hear”, serving as a reminder to resist anger triggered by political irrationality. 21. Listen to the most flavour-packed tracks we discovered this week. Music makes the world go round. And in that regard, we’re constantly on the lookout for new, exciting tunes to share with our audience. We’ve found some that cause goosebumps, and make you open your eyes and get up from your chair to dance. So put on your best pair of headphones, or turn up your speakers, and enjoy this week’s New Music Friday. Here are our top picks for the best music we came across this week, in no particular order. Eli Brown & Lilly Palmer – Gasoline Genre: Techno Did you expect a massive collaboration like this one? We’re witnessing the clash of two titans this week, as stars Eli Brown and Lilly Palmer come together for a frankly outstanding Techno pounder, ‘Gasoline‘. The title is probably a metaphor to represent the effect of this track on the dancefloor. With a powerful beat and a rhythmic chord reminiscent of the 90s Euro scene, Brown and Palmer’s release is one you’ll struggle not to make a lemon face with. It’s really that secret weapon for the darkest laser-decorated, smoke-filled rooms. Nicholas Gunn feat. 88Birds – Heart of Gold (York Remix) Genre: Progressive Trance, Progressive House Blue Dot Trance is killing it lately. We’re glad to have covered the birth of this imprint and are, of course, glad to see where Nicholas Gunn, its owner, is taking it. Good music, that’s all. And Trance. Tons of it, and of pristine quality. The latest of the label is York‘s remix of Gunn’s very own ‘Heart of Gold‘, featuring the vocals of 88Birds. Have you noticed we have a tendency to share at least one close-your-eyes-and-fly-away track in every NMF? Well, this is the one. Do as I say, and let the break, flowing to the chords, flowing to the beautifully old-sounding Progressive Trance drop send shivers down your spine and take flight. Universe – Shikadai Genre: Hard Trap Yeah, I guess we’re breaking the Spotify-only rule and tossing it in the bin. It’s the second week we’ve come across a frankly irresistible track not released on Spotify but rather on SoundCloud. And honestly, we’re more excited to share good music than we are sticking to a statement. Meet ‘Shikadai‘, the latest bomb from producer Universe. ‘Shikadai’ is a Hard Trap choon, something that can, and will, get you off whatever you’re doing and get you hooked as soon as the first drop hits. It’s an eye-opening moment, literally. And the track itself is one jewel crafted for the largest festivals. Have a listen and see. Station Underground · Universe – Shikadai (Original Mix) Zaytek – Falling Genre: Tech House On the decks of this week’s New Music Friday we welcome Zaytek. Mexican-born and Washington-based, the producer has been making waves in the industry lately, with releases like ‘Change My Mind’ and ‘Stay’ — both nearing 20,000 Spotify plays as we speak. His latest release, out this week, only proves he’s aiming for the Moon and further. ‘Falling‘ is everything you’d want to hear on loud soundsystems. Groovy, with just the right amount of melody, entrancing textures, and tasty percussion. The vocal catches you and doesn’t let you go, and so, just like that, you’ve consumed nearly four minutes of good music without noticing. Maybe you’ve even sweated a bit dancing it out. I can’t be the only one! Corey James x TR3NACRIA – Demolition (The Drill) Genre: Tech House We’re all for collaborations. How about four minds blending to update a classic? Corey James, an industry racehorse as of now and who’s been a 1001Tracklists Top 101 Most Supported Producers for three consecutive years, joined forces with Sicilian trio TR3NACRIA, who are the heads behind tens of millions of streams. All of this, for their take on the iconic ‘The Drill‘ by The Drill, from 2005. The collaboration between them all presents us with a new version of the anthem, perfectly blending the essence of the original with a modern Tech House vibe. It’s always nice to see tracks like this come back to life with respectful versions. We’re fans! ESSEL & Alex Mills – Rave Is the Weapon Genre: Tech House Back on Toolroom, one of the leading labels in the world right now, is ESSEL, whose 2023 release ‘The Edge’ just crossed the 4 million streams bar and nearly 40 BBC Radio 1 supports. Her 2024 release on the imprint is an all-female one, for she is joined by producer and vocalist Alex Mills, one who, in line with her collaborator, has written for CamelPhat, Solardo and Ferreck Dawn, and had a UK Top 40 with her track ‘Million Dollar Bill’. Judging from CVs like those, this track should be a bomb. Spoiler alert, it is. Don’t doubt it. Packed with old-school House vibes and an overall beat that might as well be used, like its title, as a weapon, ‘Rave Is the Weapon‘ is a must-have for four-digit crowds and mint-condition speakers. Try it out and let us know! CHEMISTREE – Take It Back Genre: Brostep We’re so happy to close this week’s New Music Friday with a track like this. It’s a rollercoaster ride! It is a journey through the senses, a sensory overload, in a very good way. Producer CHEMISTREE has just unveiled the first song lifted from his upcoming artist album, and it is this one, ‘Take It Back‘. How can you describe something when you have no words for it? It’s tough, but we’ll try: it kicks off as a melodic piece that takes you sky-high in pure ecstasy, only to bring you back down to Earth for a dirty, lemon-face-inducing drop. It’s savoury, very very savoury. Listen with caution. Nah, drop the warning. Blast it with the lights out and, contrary to what one is used to, focus on the breaks very closely, they’re pure bliss! Final Words Stay tuned, for more of our compilations every Tuesday and Friday — based on demand. And be sure to follow EDMTunes for all the latest news and reviews that revolve around our beloved Electronic Dance Music! The post EDMTunes New Music Friday – Week 13 appeared first on EDMTunes.
  22. The Mad Hatter released all the craziness from wonderland in San Bernardino. This year’s Beyond Wonderland SoCal gave us everything we wanted and more, from one of Insomniac‘s best lineups to date, to raging afterparties that went until 6am. We shall dig deeper into the rabbit hole and reminisce all the goodies that we found this past weekend. The event shined a light to all genres of EDM across six psychedelic stages. Nevertheless, wonderland was stacked with incredible Techno and Hardstyle acts that gave Alice a crazy trip. Jamal Eid for Insomniac Events Wonderland The production value this year felt really appropriate, from crazy characters to beautiful photo ops and amazing visuals. Every stage had its charm. However, The Looking Glass was the knight in shining armor this year, with a stacked lineup of incredibly hard techno that packed every inch of the dancefloor. We now feel that the stage has main character energy and it deserves an expansion in the future. Some stages had their own hookah bars and fun amenities, which justified a VIP upgrade. The Queen’s Domain and the Mad Hatter‘s Castle brought out incredible House and Bass acts that made our knees weak all weekend. Gina Joy for Insomniac Events The Music Beyond showered us with a lot of love, and a lot of amazing artists. We heard epic b2bs such as Bart Skills b2b Joyhauser, Eli Brown b2b Lilly Palmer, Tchami b2b Malaa, and the legendary Afrojack b2b R3HAB. We even got a chance to sit down with R3HAB after his set to chat about this upcoming festival season. Credits: Frits Van den Brink The mixture of talent really defined this festival in a category of its own. Individual sets that had everyone go wild include The Chainsmokers, Max Styler, Anfisa Letyago, I Hate Models, and probably the most packed and insane set of the weekend Sara Landry. Her popularity has exponentially influenced the Techno scene in the US so beautifully. It is just a matter of time until she has her own Hekate Records takeover at different festivals, and get booked in bigger and better venues. Improvements We are always happy to know that Insomniac consistently listens to feedback in order to improve the experience they provide year by year. From distributing artists and set times on the different stages, to expanding festival hours to allow a better flow during peak hours. Thus, we feel that the parking situation wasn’t ideal as the lots were filling up way too fast and the streets of San Bernardino were very busy. It is understandable, as the event was sold out. However, we hope for better logistic planning when it comes to parking and we know Insomniac has what it takes to make the event event better and safer for everyone. Photo by Tyler Hill | www.tylerhillphoto.com Final Thoughts We had a wonderful time exploring this campy world of imagination. Beyond Wonderland created a bunch more core memories for us. 24. In a surprising twist that has left fans and stakeholders in a state of disbelief, the much-anticipated Imagine Festival has announced a sudden halt to its operations for 2024. The festival, known for its immersive aquatic fairytale experience, has been a beacon for EDM lovers, bringing together a unique blend of music, art, and community. However, this year, the organizers have decided to take a step back, aiming to “enhance your experience,” as revealed in a heartfelt Instagram post addressed to their dedicated followers, the “Imaginers.” A Pause for Enhancement or a Debt Dilemma? The official announcement on Imagine Festival’s Instagram conveyed a message of hope and reassurance, stating, “Dear Imaginers, Imagine Festival is pausing in 2024 to enhance your experience. Thanks for your understanding as we work to create a more amazing festival for you.” While the statement paints a picture of an event in the process of evolution, behind the scenes, the narrative seems to be more complex. According to insights from “The Festive Owl,” a reliable source in the festival community, the hiatus is not just about reimagining the festival but also grappling with financial woes. It’s been reported that Imagine Festival has been on the lookout for a new owner since last year, with one potential buyer on the horizon. Unfortunately, due to disagreements on the final details, the deal fell through, leaving the festival without a buyer and, more critically, in significant debt. The Ripple Effect of Unsettled Debts The financial turbulence surrounding Imagine Festival has had a profound impact not only on the event’s future but also on the lives of those involved in its creation. The Festive Owl reveals that “many, many people still haven’t been paid for the services they rendered for it.” This unsettling revelation sheds light on the challenging circumstances faced by artists, vendors, and staff who contributed their talents and services, expecting fair compensation. The fallout from these financial struggles casts a shadow over the festival’s legacy, raising questions about the sustainability of large-scale events and the responsibilities of organizers to their contributors and community. In conclusion, as Imagine Festival takes a hiatus to ostensibly “enhance the experience” for its attendees, the undercurrents of significant debt and unsettled payments tell a story of a festival at a crossroads. The journey ahead for Imagine Festival is uncertain, but the hope is that this pause will not only allow for financial recuperation but also foster a stronger, more sustainable event that honors the contributions of all involved. As the festival navigates through these turbulent waters, the support and understanding of its community will be more crucial than ever in shaping the future of this beloved event. 25. Originating from Dillenburg, Germany, Tom Apex has built quite the following around his project, amassing millions of streams, enthralling audiences worldwide with his inventive take on dance music. Continuously evolving and redefining his sound, his adept fusion of classical elements with modern influences positions him as a trailblazing figure in the field. With each stride, Tom Apex ventures further into uncharted musical realms, not merely creating music but also sculpting the trajectory of bass-house’s future. Now, we’re thrilled to premiere his wildly creative flip of the timeless hit “Pure Imagination”, infusing it with a groovy, bass house vibe. Delving into the realms of nostalgia, Tom Apex’s rendition, bearing the same title, ingeniously reimagines the original melody, crafting an entrancing intro that seamlessly transitions into a dynamic bass-house masterpiece. With its rich layers, pulsating rhythms, and evocative synth elements, the track is poised to keep audiences grooving well into the summer months. I stumbled upon the original version of pure imagination one day while scrolling through TikTok and I knew then and there that I had to cover this. I immediately stopped everything that I was doing and started working on the project. After sending the first version into a group chat Miles from Asunder sent me a mp3 file called “Tom” with no context. Turns out he built some ideas around my initial idea and I thought ‘yup that’s exactly what I had imagined for this project’ and we got to work. Almost a year after countless sessions with Miles and Habib, my girlfriend Aylin then recorded the vocals for this project and that’s how ‘pure imagination’ came to be. My initial Idea was inspired by those nostalgic liminal space pictures with the intent of making a song that makes you feel nostalgic for a time you never had.” – Tom Apex Featuring the exceptional talents of Asunder, Aylin Kayvan, and Lucas Taucoory, “Pure Imagination” emerges as a fusion of musical brilliance, each artist infusing the track with their distinctive flair, thereby ensuring that this rendition remains as captivating as its predecessor.
