Marshmello Announces New Riddim EP
The steady stream of new Marshmello music isn't over. The masked, chart-topping producer has stormed into 2024 with several bass-forward singles, staying especially attuned to his bass music roots in recent times. However, his surprise performance in Ibiza during a break in his cancer treatment hinted at his unwavering spirit. By December he shared heartening news of his remission, a sign of hope not just for him, but also his fans worldwide. Before taking to Coachella's new Quasar stage, he reflected, "One year ago I was given a 30% chance of survival, today I'm packing to perform at Coachella... Never give up on your hopes or dreams." Bibi was joined onstage by his mother, who was simultaneously experiencing her first music festival with her son. The emotional weight of the performance was palpable, Bibi said. "It was emotional, it was intense—there was happiness, there was some sadness," he told BBC's Newsbeat. "And there was just a huge range of emotions coming through." The community embraces vinyl enthusiasts from all walks of life, fostering an in-clusive environment which actively involves like-minded people at their popular VinylExchange events; and has a constantly expanding network of vinyl junkies and wax enthusiasts who share the same passion on the island. The real pull of the IVC is their interactive events, where guests and members can get involved on Opendecks, the VinylExchange & sale and the AudioPoint. These hands-on experiences allow attendees to engage with vinyl music tangibly and memorably. Indira Paganotto to curate the club room at Amnesia Ibiza for Metamorfosi
Indira Paganotto is set to return to Amnesia Ibiza this summer and take over curation of The Club Room as part of Joseph Capriati’s Metamorfosi residency. Metamorfosi opens on 19th July and closes on 6th September so promises eight unmissable Fridays of high-class musical action in the world’s most celebrated club. Paganotto is one of the hottest stars in the contemporary scene. The Spanish artist has a potent sound and plenty of technical skill as a DJ and has played every major club and festival in the world in the last 12 months while also dropping music on Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT, Nina Kraviz’s Trip and her own Artcore. Having just released an official remix for Depeche Mode, Indira is scheduled to play Movement Detroit, Tomorrowland Main Stage, EDC Las Vegas, and plenty of others this summer. Watch RÜFÜS DU SOL Coachella Groundbreaking 3+ Hour DJ Set
Picture this: sunset at Coachella on the brand new Quasar stage. What’s better? Well, maybe the fact that Australian electronic trio RÜFÜS DU SOL took the decks for an unprecedented 3+ hour DJ set. Once you get there, you are immediately struck by the massive LED panels that make up the performance area. The striking futuristic design radiated an almost extraterrestrial energy. As RÜFÜS took their place behind the towering DJ booth, those panels blinked to life with abstract, ever-evolving geometric visualizations. We were about to embark on a true audiovisual journey. The opening warm-up saw the group ease us in with understated, atmospheric soundscapes zoning in on a hypnotic, rolling groove. Melodic synth pads ebbed and flowed as RÜFÜS effortlessly blended new unreleased tracks with deeper cult cuts from respected underground imprints. The visual accompaniment matched the vibe – hazy, colored clouds and fractalized natural scenery pulsated organically. Slowly but surely, the intensity was ratcheted up. Acapella vocals from the group’s anthemic hits like “Underwater” were deftly weaved in between punchy, driving kick drums. The visuals shifted too, morphing into hyper-realistic urban environments that disintegrated into otherworldly alien landscapes. We were being transported to another realm. As the night reached a feverish climax in the set’s final lush third, RÜFÜS kicked up the energy into an irresistible techno frenzy. Remixes from scene heavyweights like Adriatique got funky reworks, while the iconic “The Runner” by Foals got a thunderous club edit. Laser rave sticks danced feverishly as the crowd moved as one pulsating organism. Watching RÜFÜS seamlessly flow between underground house, techno, melodic grooves and more was a true clinic in technical wizardry and creative versatility. But it was the fully immersive, symbiotic audiovisual experience that left me in awe. The Quasar stage’s visuals were as much a “performer” as the three artists themselves, transcending standard concert visuals. As the final thumping kicks faded and RÜFÜS raised their arms in triumph, the human ocean roared its approval. We had all just witnessed a historic, boundary-pushing statement that raised the bar for what a DJ “performance” can be. Two of electronic music’s greatest made the most of their time overseas. Illenium and Martin Garrix both played Creamfields in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago. And over the weekend, both posted that they met up in the studio in Tokyo to work on some music! Martin is seen holding a guitar but other than that, no other information has been released. To no one’s surprise, the internet is all for it. With intense die hard followings for both artists, it’s going to be hard to not get excited to hear what the two can create. Hopefully we can get some teases of whatever they have created during festival season. If anything, we’ll hope to have an official release by the end of the year! b2b’s and collabs are popping up all over lately. Just this weekend, Anyma and Eric Prydz dominated Coachella on the new Quasar stage. Bass Canyon Announces Stacked 2024 Lineup Featuring Zeds Dead, Space Laces, More
Excision has revealed the lineup for the return of Bass Canyon in 2024. Alongside Excision and the three sets he plays every year, he's enlisted the help of some of the biggest bass music acts in the world. Zeds Dead, Ganja White Night, Ray Volpe, Space Laces and Kill The Noise are all set to throw down at the scenic Gorge Amphitheatre in August. The dubstep superstar has diversified the Bass Canyon lineup further, tapping drum & bass artists like 1991, Kanine and Friction while also booking house music producers Habstrakt and Jake Shore. Per usual, some of the hottest rising talents are on the lineup as well, including DRINKURWATER, OMAS and Viperactive as well as EDM.com Class of 2024 stars Levity and Hamdi. Bass Canyon will once again be hosted at the Gorge and feature three stages. The festival will span three days from August 16th through 18th, as well as a camping pre-party on the 15th. 5 Forgotten EDM Collabs That Deserve Another Listen
When it comes to the world of electronic dance music, collaborations between superstar DJs and producers are always highly anticipated events. These joint efforts often result in massive hits that dominate festival stages and mainstream charts alike. However, some truly memorable collabs have flown under the radar over the years, overshadowed by the constant influx of new music. In this article, we revisit five forgotten EDM collaborations that deserve to be rediscovered and appreciated. David Guetta & Afrojack – “Louder Than Words” Released in 2010, “Louder Than Words” was a electro house tour de force that brought together two of the biggest names in the genre at the time. Featuring powerful vocal hooks and a high-energy drop, the track perfectly captured the sound that had propelled both David Guetta and Afrojack to superstardom. Despite its undeniable dance floor appeal, the song is often overlooked as both David Guetta and Afrojack have a repertoire of bangers both individually and collectively. Hardwell & Tiësto – “Written in Reverse” In 2014, Dutch powerhouses Hardwell and Tiësto joined forces for “Written in Reverse,” a melodic big room house anthem that showcased the producers’ respective strengths. Blending euphoric breakdowns with hard-hitting drops, the track was a quintessential festival banger that deserved more attention than it received. Perhaps overlooked due to its release amidst an oversaturated market during a time where big room house was booming, “Written in Reverse” remains a hidden gem in both artists’ discographies. Calvin Harris & Nicky Romero – “Iron” Calvin Harris and Nicky Romero made an unlikely pairing on the 2012 track “Iron.” Fusing Harris’ pop sensibilities with Romero’s signature progressive house sound, the result was a high-octane, synth-laden banger that deserved more recognition. “Iron” was the first single from Nicky Romero’s label to reach number one Beatport and was much a crowd hit during the time, however today it’s one we don’t hear as often. The 2010’s era is often known as the golden era of EDM and this track was certainly one we jammed to then and hopefully can bring it back again this festival season! Skrillex & Kaskade – “Lick It” In 2017, dubstep pioneer Skrillex and house music veteran Kaskade joined forces for the unexpected collaboration “Lick It.” Blending their respective styles into a genre-defying hybrid, the track was an experimental departure for both artists that showcased their creative versatility. Unfortunately, “Lick It” flew under the radar, overshadowed by the artists’ more mainstream releases. Porter Robinson & Mat Zo – “Easy” Before embarking on their respective artistic evolutions, Porter Robinson and Mat Zo crafted the electro house gem “Easy” in 2013. A melodic, emotive offering that perfectly captured the sound of the era, the track deserved more recognition than it received. Perhaps overlooked due to its subtlety amidst the bombastic trends of the time, “Easy” remains a standout in both producers’ early discographies. While these five collaborations may have been forgotten by the mainstream, they remain cherished by dedicated fans and serve as reminders of the creative potential that arises when talented artists join forces. As the ever-evolving world of EDM continues to explore new sounds and styles, it’s worth revisiting these hidden gems and rediscovering the magic that made them special in the first place.

Since its inception in 2019, Peggy Gou‘s Gudu label has established itself as a truly international house for electronic music talent from around the world. The label’s latest release, Gudu & Friends Vol. 2, doubles down on that cosmopolitan ethos, compiling a wildly diverse array of artists from Korea, Italy, the US, and beyond. The compilation is the second installment of Gudu‘s various artists series. It follows last year’s eclectic Gudu & Friends Vol. 1. This new edition sees familiar Gudu associates like Korean techno maverick Mogwaa, Italian house mavericks Hiver and Dukwa, and Gou’s fellow Blessing Recordings alumni Matisa return alongside a fresh crop of global voices. Among the newcomers is Alinka, whose “Night Train” is a hypnotic late-night house roller. Armada Forms New Parent Company, Targets $500M In Investments
Armin van Buuren co-founded label Armada Music, based in Amsterdam has set up a new parent company, Armada Music Group as it continues to grow through acquisition. Its latest acquisition is Netherlands-based label and publisher Cloud 9 Music. The new parent company which will encompass Armada’s label, publishing and investments arms. Last year, the label announced the BEAT Music Fund, which it described as the first-ever dance music investment fund and a plan to spend $100 million on catalog acquisitions in its first two years. Now, the newly formed parent company has annouced it’s planning am additional $500 million in investments within the next five years. “This acquisition is significant to us and will boost our ability to empower today’s dance artists and expand their opportunities to monetize their work in the current landscape. Len Faki releases second instalment of his ‘Fusion’ remix trilogy
Fusion Remixes 02/03 by Len Faki Berlin-based renowned techno artist Len Faki has announced the second instalment of his Fusion remix trilogy, out on his label imprint Figure. Nearly a year on from the original LP release, Fusion Remixes 02/03 reminds us of the versatility and musical expansiveness of Len Faki’s latest masterwork. The Berliner has hand-picked his favourite producers, from ANNA to Modeselektor, to reimagine eight originals on the second double 12“ EP of the Fusion Remixes collection, following January’s first instalment. Part two of the trilogy kicks off with ‘Sexuality (My Reality)’, recrafted by Len himself under the moniker Hardspace into a rasping stomper, adding a cacophony of hit hats into the mix using his understanding of floor dynamics. Fusion deep cut ‘Shri Yantra’ gets the club treatment next, with Luke Slater’s Deep Heat remix ramping up the intensity, transporting the original’s delicate synth textures into a high-octane screamer. On the B-side, Amotik morphs the bouncing ‘Make Me Scream’ into a one-way tunnel of haunted voices and pummeling percussion, while the sharp breakbeats and warm synths give Ploy’s rework of ‘Raum 422’ a distinctly old-school feel. Etherwood announces new label ‘Stillness Music’
Etherwood is launching his own label, Stillness Music. After 10 years at Med School and Hospital Records, he thought it was time for something new. Drawing from his third album, In Stillness, Etherwood was inspired by nature, meditation, and mental health. He hopes to bring this same ethos of peace to his new label. “The idea behind Stillness Music is a focus on the more chilled and serene side of drum and bass, creating a space to find calmness and stillness among the chaos of everyday life,” he explains. With the first single announced, it’s safe to say Etherwood is staying true to the sound we all know and love him for: liquid drum & bass, deep melodies, and a hint of nature. You might have heard the track at Liquicity or Shogun Sessions, but on April 25, it’s finally out on Stillness Music. We caught up with Etherwood and talked about the new label and life lately. Congratulations on the label! Can you start by telling us the story of how it started? Thank you! When I started producing, I never thought I’d start my own label, but the idea has been slowly forming over the past few years. After ten years, four albums and an EP with Hospital, I felt it was time to start something fresh and exciting. My contract was naturally coming to an end, and I’d seen some of my friends and artists starting their own labels. I was very inspired to do the same. I’ve always had a very strong vision and notion of who I want to be as an artist and for my music to reflect the themes that I live by, so I think this has ultimately led to me wanting to take more control. I owe so much to Hospital and Med School, it’s been an amazing ride, but it feels like I’m ready for the next chapter to further hone my vibe as an artist and create a platform to release my own tunes and music I love. What’s that vision you’re talking about? I chose the name ‘Stillness Music’ because I wanted something relevant as an artist. My third album is called In Stillness, and for that one, I went out into isolation and stayed in a little cabin in the Finnish woods for 10 days. It invited all these calm and chilled vibes without any distractions. Since then, I’ve felt connected to the idea of stillness and figured it’s a perfect name for the label and its ethos. Listening to music can be an escape from the present, but it also makes us feel connected, grounded and alive. During a hectic time, we can put our headphones on and return to what’s real, special and important. Drum & bass has this beautiful ability to make us feel a million different ways in one. To me, it’s all about the calmer, deeper side, the stuff that hits you where it matters. The idea behind Stillness is to create a platform for the more chilled and serene side of D&B, a soundtrack to a drive through the mountains, a walk through the forest or a stroll on the beach. That’s the vision. That’s the vibe that I yearn for as an artist and a listener. Talking about stillness, it’s also been a while since you released music. How was it to take some time off? It was really, really important. It feels like a long time now, but I have been doing loads since the last album came out. I was converting a camper van so that I could travel to gigs and write music in there, be away from home, and enjoy being in nature. I was finishing that off, and then after a little while, I moved into a flat on the south coast. It was a very busy time for me, so I couldn’t get into the studio as much as I’d have liked. I also felt like I needed to take some time off to assess where I am as an artist and gain more inspiration from travel. Try to figure out what I want to do. That’s when the idea for the label really took form. The whole Stillness theme has become a bit of a mantra for me, especially recently. 10 years in, it’s obvious that the DJ lifestyle is really intense and really hectic… It’s easy to get carried away. Sometimes, you feel like you struggle to stay grounded and keep your feet on the ground. I think after that period of time, when my contract with Hospital Records was coming to an end, I felt like that was a good time to take a step back and assess everything. I was meditating a lot and grounding myself, essentially. I really needed that time off. Otherwise, you just carry on. You burn out and get stuck in a loop, then it’s another 10 years, and you’re in the same place as you were before. Musically, as well, I didn’t want to keep writing the same stuff. I took some time to learn new production techniques, got some new synths and changed the software I use for production. It’s been nice. I feel like I’m coming back refreshed and renewed. What’s the plan for the label? I don’t really want to restrict myself to being a drum & bass label only. I hope to release anything that ties nicely into the label’s ethos. It would be nice to incorporate some wellness and mindfulness, maybe some yoga, and perhaps work with some mental health charities. What’s important for me is to try and use this platform to promote wellness and ultimately create a sense of peace and well-being for everyone involved. Where did your relationship with nature start? I’ve always been kind of obsessed with nature. I used to go camping a lot when I was younger. I used to go to the woods, go wild swimming whenever I could… enjoying everything nature offered. It always gave me this strong feeling of peace. I guess that ended up coming through in my music, and that’s where I still find most of my inspiration. I discovered meditation around the same time that I started making music. I started getting into Buddhism, and I was meditating more and more. I think it really helps, and for me, it’s really important to balance this mad DJ lifestyle. It’s very up and down and very mentally challenging. You need something to keep you happy and peaceful, and that’s what meditation did for me. I talk to a lot of people about it, but I try not to preach about it too much. There’s a big mental struggle for anyone in this industry. For me, meditation was the thing that allowed me to move past that and stay on top of everything. A few years back, I struggled a lot with my mental health, particularly when I first started life as Etherwood. It was a huge culture shock, and it took some time to adjust to that, but the more you meditate, the more you learn to navigate life a little better. You don’t find yourself getting quite so stressed. Even things like nerves when you’re DJing, lack of confidence, or judging yourself. Meditating helps you with all of this. I’m hoping to do some Stillness Music events with all the usual joys of a D&B rave, but it could be cool to have meditation sessions at the event as well, or a gong bath or some sound therapy. It’s not normally the kind of thing you’d find at a drum & bass rave, but it’d be great to have that or just an area where you can sit and find your chill. In the long run, I’d love to try and do some sessions to try and introduce more DJs and producers to meditation cause it’s helped me so much. How does that tie in with your relationship with traveling? I’ve always felt quite nomadic. I don’t tend to stay in one place for too long, which is why I decided to convert a van into a camper. I travel a lot because of my job, and I love being amongst nature, so I thought it would be great to combine the two. I have a small studio set up in there, which is cool. When you’re on the move a lot, you need those times of stillness to reflect. It’s been three years since your last album, Neon Dust. How have you grown as an artist? I think there’s a lot of self-discovery. When I’m writing, I always find I have to remove myself from the day-to-day and step away from my home for a bit to get that inspiration. I feel more settled now as a person and artist. On Neon Dust, I experimented a bit with different genres and listened to a lot of 60s music while writing it. There were some slow bits in there. There were some more housey bits. This bit of time between releases has allowed me to focus more on developing my sound. For this first release on Stillness, I’m fixed on drum & bass, trying to put as much of myself into it as possible and not stray too much into different genres. I do feel as though I’ve learned a lot when it comes to songwriting and production, and I hope that carries through. On social media, you posted something about learning how to drone. Is it important for you to keep learning new stuff? Well, it’s funny you mention that because I had a bit of an accident this weekend involving the drone and a tree that literally came out of nowhere. But yeah, I love learning new stuff. I’m quite a creative person anyway. I’ve just started painting a lot. The great thing about the drone is that there are so many awesome spots because we travel a lot. I figured it would go hand in hand. The drone footage looks really nice when combined with music. But yeah, I’m always creating. Music is where my heart and soul go, but I love learning new stuff when possible. You’ve had some gigs recently, like Shogun Sessions, for example. How was it to go back out there and tease your upcoming music? It’s always nice. I’ve been playing ‘Lucid’, my new single, a lot, and it’s getting a nice reaction. My music isn’t particularly made for dancefloors. It doesn’t have this huge mega filthy drop or anything, so it’s nice to see people reacting well to that kind of music in a rave setting. How would you like people to listen to your music, then? I don’t know, really. I guess my music comes from a place where I feel very relaxed, at peace, and comfortable, and that’s when I can create. It’s all coming out as naturally as possible. Because it’s all very inspired by nature, and I know I keep talking about nature a lot, but I would say it’s probably better appreciated there. A lot of people tell me that they listen to my music when they’re travelling, which is really nice. It’s like the soundtrack to people’s travels. I love it when people share those kinds of stories. I suppose any time when you feel like you just need some comfort, that’s what I’m trying to do with my music, like an audio hug. I’m speaking from my own point of view here, but there’s something about liquid drum & bass and the feeling it gives you. The soul and the passion… there’s so much energy in it, but then at the same time, you’ve got some serious feels from all the pianos and the guitars and the vocals and that deep sub. It’s just the best. What else do you have planned for this year? I’ve got some cool shows that I’m looking forward to. I’m heading to America in May for the first time in quite a while, which will be good. I’ve got some great shows in the summer, one in Bali, which I’m looking forward to. Another thing I’m hoping to start is a YouTube mix series. This will be a stream from the camper van. A lot of the time when I’m parked up somewhere nice, I’ve got the decks out, and I’m having a mix, so I think it would be really nice if we filmed this. So that’s the plan.
