The Paris Agreement set out the goal to limit global average temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Coachella 2025 Dates Announced for April 11-13 & 18-20, 2025 After a rocky start to Coachella 2024, which experienced a departure from its usual trend of instant sellouts, Coachella 2025 dates have been announced. The festival will be taking place April 11-13 & 18-20, 2025. Unlike previous years, it took several months to sell all the tickets for the first weekend. Typically the event sells out within one week of going live and took nearly an entire month this year to hit that benchmark. Remarkably, even as recently as this past Thursday, tickets were still available for the second weekend. On top of issues selling tickets, renowned Electronic artist Grimes hit some hiccups. She issued an apology publicly following her mishap. Additionally, short-term rental bookings in the area were down for the weekend from 2023. Coachella has received criticism from other angles as well for increasing ticket costs as well as high food and beverage prices at the festival. However, fans can look forward to another double-header weekend in 2025. Tickets will be on Advance Sale beginning Friday, May 3rd. Berlin-based DJ and producer Julian Jeweil has released a new two-track Techno EP called “Yeah/Basement” on the Factory 93 label. The hard-hitting release showcases Jeweil’s signature pounding grooves and mastery of percussion. The first track “Yeah” starts off light before building to a huge kick drum and chanting vocal samples repeating “yeah” across dramatic builds and heavy drops. It has an uptempo, high-energy flow perfectly timed for making moves on the dancefloor. “Basement” takes things in a darker direction, fusing an underground sound with a distorted vocal intoning “ready for the drum” over acidic synths, reverb and stripped-back yet effective percussion. While the two tracks have a similar dramatic structure, “Basement” represents the EP’s deeper, more hypnotic side. Festival season is in full swing, and EDC Las Vegas (May 17–19) is just around the corner. People who are going to the festival are probably wondering what they should bring to make sure they’re ready for a great weekend of music, dancing, and building community, particularly those who have weekend passes to Camp EDC. Campers can choose between shiftpod and RV camping, and they can enter and leave the festival as they please. They can also use the Mesa, which is a busy area with entertainment, activities, and amenities like yoga, wellness workshops, pool parties, and beauty stations that campers can enjoy and participate in all weekend. No matter how many times you’ve been camping before or if this is your first time, it’s important to know what you should bring to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Here are the things we think you should bring if you plan to camp at EDC Las Vegas: Locks There are TWO tent locks: There are two doors on each shiftpod, so you will need a lock for each one. You’ll need locks to keep your things safe and secure while you’re under the electric sky. Flags Flags: It’s easy to lose your tent at night when there are a lot of other campers in shiftpods and RVs setting up for the weekend. Put up flags, totems, and other items in your tent or RV to keep this from happening. This will not only make your weekend home more interesting and fun, but it will also make your tent stand out on the Camp EDC grounds. You should make sure that any totems you bring to Camp EDC or the event in general follow the rules set by EDC. Earplugs Earplugs: Since Camp EDC is part of the main event, the party really never ends. When you finally need to sleep, we suggest bringing earplugs or noise-canceling headphones to make sure you can get some Zzz’s. But make sure you bring some high-quality earplugs with you to the event. The noise level is lowered by these earplugs without changing the sound quality, so you can still enjoy the music without hurting your hearing. They are the official earplugs of EDC Las Vegas 2024, and this pair has an EDC theme. Comfy shoes Fashionable shoes: Whether they’re boots, sneakers, or even sports sandals, you’ll need your favorite rave shoes to keep you comfy while you walk, dance, and move around a lot at EDC and Camp EDC. You should also bring a cheap pair of waterproof flip-flops for the heated showers that are available to all Camp EDC guests at a number of facilities around the campgrounds. Sunscreen Cover up with sunscreen. Even though EDC is in the evening, campers will be moving around the Mesa all day doing yoga, rave exercise, guided meditation, arts and crafts, pool parties, and other group activities. Since the event is at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it can be hard to find a place with shade. Bring sunscreen with a high SPF and remember to reapply it often. The sun will never go down in Las Vegas, and no one wants to go to a party with a bad sunburn. Camp EDC Coolers The Camp EDC General Store has medicine, toiletries, clothes, food, drinks, and other things you might have forgotten at home. Bring a cooler with you so your food and drinks stay cool in the hot Vegas sun. They sell bags of ice. Water Pack If you want to stay hydrated during the whole event, bring a water pack. It will also come in handy at Camp EDC, where there are free water refill stations all over the grounds. Don’t like water packs? You can get an official Insomniac reusable water bottle from the Insomniac Shop when you get there, or you can order one online ahead of time. Tip: Bring electrolyte drinks or hydration packs with you to make sure you stay hydrated, even if you’re moving and sweating all weekend. The best non-alcoholic drink at EDC is Hiyo, which is tasty, refreshing, and energizing. It’s a great way to enjoy the party without any of the consequences. Fans Fans, it’s really hot in Las Vegas. Camp EDC has shade structures and water misters to help campers stay cool during the day, but a personal fan is always a good idea for when you want to cool off anywhere. Some people who go to festivals like folding hand fans, while others like small electric fans that run on batteries. Whatever you decide, you’ll be glad you chose to be on the Mesa where there is a cool breeze and an electric sky. Mirror There are a lot of other ravers at Camp EDC, so it can be hard to find a mirror when everyone is going to the bathroom to fix their hair, put on makeup, or finish off their shows. Have a travel mirror in your shiftpod ready to go so you don’t have to fight for a spot at the bathroom mirrors, which are sure to be busy. Kandi The clothes and accessories that people wear to raves are some of the most famous parts of rave culture. Kandi, which are brightly colored bracelets with beads and often funny sayings on them, are an important part of raves and are meant to be shared with other people who go. PLUR stands for peace, love, unity, and respect. Trading these bands is a nod to those values and a great way to get to know other campers. Bandanas Wear bandanas or pashminas. The Motor Speedway is in the middle of the desert, just outside of Las Vegas. The air is always pretty dirty, but it gets really dirty in the evening when the winds get strong. Some black boogers are bad things that could happen, but having a bandana or two on hand will help you avoid them. Also, pashminas are a good choice because they can keep you cool in the summer and protect you from dust at the same time. Bathing suits Camp EDC has four pools that were created and put together by Insomniac. From Friday to Sunday, there are pool parties with special guest DJs, specialty drinks, and an oasis-like atmosphere. “Friends coming together to create special moments” is the motto Adam Ten and Mita Gami emphasized while gearing up for Coachella. Both named Dancing Astronaut Artists to Watch in 2024, the Israeli DJs executed one of the few and exclusive back-to-back DJ sets this year. While they’ve co-DJ’d many times in the past, the producers maintain unique and individual artist projects, with their joint productions comprising a supplementary creative outlet. Still, the duo boasts upward of thirty joint records, including “High On,” “Spring Girl,” and “Lego,” among others. In addition to being individually talented, Adam Ten and Mita Gami work exceptionally well together, both in the studio and onstage. In addition to their highly anticipated stints in the Yuma Tent, Adam Ten and Mita Gami played opening duties for Rüfüs Du Sol as late additions to the Quasar Stage lineup. The DJ pair came prepared with special edits and never-before-heard track IDs, offering attendees an exclusive, psychedelic atmosphere during their time in the desert. Dancing Astronaut sat down with the DJs for an exclusive interview ahead of their Weekend 1 performance; read it below. As one of the only back-to-back sets on the lineup, what does it mean for both of you to represent Israel at Coachella? Adam Ten: “We’re very happy bring our sound from [Israel]. We have been in the Tel Aviv scene for a while, and there are a lot of producers. We do our best to support those that we believe have good music and are worthy to hear about. It’s not about countries; it’s about the music.” Mita Gami: “Israel has a lot of very good producers, and the sound that comes from Tel Aviv is unique. The Maccabi house sound…It’s a movement, and it’s become a recognizable sound.” Adam Ten: “Regarding the back-to-back, it’s really good that we’re doing it because both of us are also independent artists. So, when we play back-to-back, I am playing my music and he’s doing his music, and then we do music together. We like to keep the back-to-backs for these special moments.” How did the Maccabi House label develop as a collaborative effort? Mita Gami: “It started a few years ago, and then I officially joined a little bit after that.” Adam Ten: “We started the concept as a platform to release our music, and friends’ music, that we believe in. After two years of just pushing the music, we got to focus more on the brand and parties.” When did you notice the first breakthrough of your sound reaching North America? Mita Gami: “We can say Burning Man 2022 at the Mayan Warrior Art Car. We played mostly an original set and people liked it. It was the first time a big crowd like that was listening to it and commenting on it.” Adam Ten: “We had stable growth without having just one hit. Burning Man was a place that we really wanted to go and play. After the set, people started noticing and we started building.” How would you guys categorize your genre of music? Mita Gami: “It’s a combination of a few, including funk, indie dance, and tech house.” Adam Ten: “I would say it’s like psychedelic house… Because it’s house, but with Israeli flavor, as psy-trance is the main genre in Israel.” How do you curate your sets for an intimate club setting compared to a big festival? Mita Gami: “When I go to a festival, I like to hear edits and happy songs. I’d go to festivals with my friends to have fun and listen to happy music. With clubs, its more underground and not as many big moments. It’s more about the groove and the continuous dancing. At festivals, it’s about moments. “ Adam Ten: “You have a limited amount of time at festivals. So, you come more prepared. It is less about improvisation and more about creating a kind of show structure. For Coachella, we would create a specially edited track, or a new track that we’re going to present at the festival. When you have those kinds of big stages, you want to bring your sound that people are familiar with, but you also want to bring something fresh.” “Toys” is your latest release on Higher Ground. How did this record come about? Adam Ten: “‘Toys’ is a collaboration with Rafael, a talented friend from Tel Aviv. He had prior releases on Maccabi House… We were just like jamming in the studio. We made a house song, but then we added psychedelic trance elements around it. I really loved the outcome. For the idealistic minds behind the producers of music festivals, one question often gnaws like a spider in the brain: can a stage be more than just a platform? For Heather Shaw, it's a resounding "yes." Shaw is the designer of Coachella's brand-new Quasar stage, which propelled electronic dance music as one of the iconic festival's biggest draws in a year teeming with unforgettable rave moments. As the founder and CEO of Vita Motus Design Studio, Shaw has executed phantasmagoric stages for EDC, Electric Forest and Lightning in a Bottle, among other major festivals. She also made history in 2022 as the first female lead production designer for the MTV Video Music Awards. In a whirlwind three-month design sprint, Shaw manifested a universe in the festival's hallowed desert metropolis, where Quasar dissolved the boundaries between conceptual art and performative spectacle. Reimagining the concert stage as a living, breathing organism, Quasar, Shaw tells us, was designed "to push the boundaries of what's possible at music festivals." She paints a picture of a bastion of iconoclastic design that transcends the typical festival stage's proscribed role as inert backdrop. Fans at Quasar willingly plunged into the rapturous rabbit holes of three-hour DJ sets by RÜFÜS DU SOL and a cancer-free Michael Bibi, among other influential dance music artists. An undeniable highlight came on Saturday of the festival's second weekend, when Eric Prydz and Anyma—two of the industry's most subversive purveyors of visual displays—performed together for the first time as the sun set. With such an important project, what ideas were firing off in your mind from an architectural perspective? Heather Shaw: When I first conceptualized Quasar, my vision was to create a stage that not only serves as a performance venue but as a piece of immersive art. From an architectural standpoint, I was excited by the challenge of blending aesthetics with functionality, using geometric forms and interactive elements that respond to the music. The biggest challenge was trying to find what style would fit a festival like Coachella. Would it be a scenic stage, would it be another LED driven performance space, or would it be architectural? We are consistently designing and building media sculptures as stages, and this was the direction we went. Finding a narrative and visual that could be iconic for the future. The design started with the idea of monolithic LED walls that would not only serve as a backdrop but also integrate seamlessly with the performance, creating a fluid and dynamic visual experience. EDM.com: What were some of the biggest logistical and technical hurdles you had to overcome in bringing the Quasar stage to life? Heather Shaw: Well, the timeline we had for Quasar was definitely one of the most intense aspects of the project. We only got word of the project in late January which gave us just a few short months to take the concept to completion. Typically, a project of this scale would have a much longer runway, so it was a sprint from day one. Every element was a challenge due to that compressed schedule. We had to design, plan and execute simultaneously, which is as daunting as it sounds. This required an incredible amount of coordination among all team members from the design team to engineers, and the crews on the ground. Everyone had to be perfectly in sync, and there was no room for delays. Despite these challenges, we managed to pull it off, and I'm incredibly proud of what the whole team achieved. It was a testament to the dedication and creativity of our team, and I think it set a new standard for what's possible at music festivals. Did you incorporate any groundbreaking technologies to make it stand out from past Coachella stages? Heather Shaw: There were a few ambitious steps that we experienced during the last two months of design and execution. One was the engineering because we have the cantilever in the walls in order to create sculpture. This engineering was a challenge especially in this timeline. Another ambitious technical spec is the integration of real-time content manipulation within the Unreal Engine. By using Prismax team's XLive tool, the visuals dynamically respond to the music being played, creating a unique and immersive audiovisual experience that stands out from past stages. This integration means that not only can the visuals keep pace with live changes in the music, but they can also be uniquely tailored to each performance. This capability allows for a much more personalized experience for both the artists and the audience, as visuals are not just pre-programmed but are created and manipulated in real-time based on the live environment. This technology represents a significant leap forward in live event production, combining high-end gaming technology with concert visuals to push the boundaries of what's possible at music festivals. This integration ensures that the Quasar stage offers an unparalleled sensory experience, setting a new standard for live music events at Coachella and beyond. EDM.com: Since 2024 marks Quasar's first iteration, what does the future hold? Could it be expanded or enhanced? Heather Shaw: As for the future of Quasar, while I don’t know the specific plans the festival has, I'm already dreaming up ways to push the boundaries even further. We've set a foundation that's rich with potential, especially in terms of audience interaction and engagement. I'd love to explore even more elements that can interact with the audience directly, perhaps through interactive installations that respond to audience movement and energy. With his newest single, ‘Imposter’, releasing on and the EP following on May 30, MarMar sat down with EDMTunes to discuss his musical inspirations, experiences at the Seeking Blue writing camp, and the collaborative process behind his upcoming project. Which artists have been your biggest influences? I grew up listening to a lot of alternative rock, so guys like Kings of Leon and AFI, and then later on The 1975. A friend eventually showed me Ratatat while on an exchange trip to France, and I was just immediately captured by electronic music. Then of course Skrillex’s early work was a huge influence. Had posters and shirts from him and just gravitated so heavily toward his art. So yea I definitely found inspiration from quite a few different folks, but currently I’m finding alot of inspiration from Duskus and Pocket and what they are doing in the scene! We’ve heard that you went to the Seeking Blue writing camp this past year — how would you describe it? Beautiful. It was so much fun and so far outside my comfort zone. I’m so used to writing while I’m alone at my little desk, so being surrounded by creatives in the middle of the forest was just such a different and wonderful experience. I also learned a ton about production and writing just by being surrounded by such like-minded and talented people. I made incredible friendships while there. Seeking Blue is such a special creative brand. You have a few collaborations on your upcoming EP. What makes a good collaboration? Communication. Of course the song has to sound good and the pieces have to be there, but being able to effectively work with someone in a way that allows you both to be honest is so crucial. We’ve heard that you’re originally from the US and moved to France, would you say that has made an impact on your music? In more ways than I can say! It has sort of created this whole other creative identity within me that I have loved discovering. I feel like I’ve found something with music out here that I never knew existed. If you were able to describe Feel Okay (EP) in one sentence, what would it be? Feel Okay is about my struggles with culture change and mental health. What inspires your music, and are there any particular themes or messages you aim to convey through your songs? Emotion inspires my music completely. I love writing in a way that gives the listener a clear idea of the feeling I had when creating that song. I try to convey a message of hope through the music I make. I also try to help people know it’s ok to be honest with the music you make, even if the emotion is sad or not pretty. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with the Dutch duo Blasterjaxx. The superstars released an absolute banger ‘16’ with Hardwell & Maddix earlier this month. Thom Jongkind and Idir Makhlaf, hailing from The Hague, have been part of the pioneering days of Big Room. The Blasterjaxx duo have released numerous hit singles and collaborated with renowned artists in the EDM scene, such as Hardwell, David Guetta, Tiësto, Afrojack, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. You would recognize their tunes ‘Purpose’, ‘Tarzan,’ ‘Narco,’ and ‘Superman’ to name a few. We’ve gone all in from their journey into depths of their story with the genre, ways of production, ‘16’ itself, and much more! Without further ado let’s dive into the interview. Thanks for doing this with us guys, we love your music here at EDMTunes. How was the production of ‘16’ for you two? Especially working with Maddix & Hardwell, could you dive into how the collaboration was for the both of you with them? Well, it all kicked off on a casual Tuesday brainstorm session, pondering over which old classic to remix. Eventually, we settled on Ard Und Jorn’s “16” – there was just this wave of nostalgia that hit us whenever we spun that track, so it was a no-brainer. After a few days of tinkering away at it, we decided it needed that extra techno flair, and who better to bring that than Maddix? Now, Maddix wasn’t just any collaborator for us. We had a blast working together on our first Collab, ‘Purpose,’ back in 2022, so it felt like the natural move to team up again. Hardwell caught wind of the track and a month later, he was willing to throw down his own spin on it. And the rest, as they say, is history. We’re absolutely thrilled with how everything came together, and we’re itching to drop this banger at every show. Hard work, collaboration, and a sprinkle of serendipity – that’s the recipe for success, my friend. You both have been around for awhile now, what has been your favourite festival to play at so far? And what would be a dream venue/festival you’d like to play at? Picking a favourite club or festival is like trying to choose your favourite song, impossible! Each one has its own unique vibe and energy, you know? Now, if we’re talking dream venues/festivals we haven’t hit up yet? There’s a couple that come to mind. Untold Festival in Romania and Coachella would be right up there on our list. Just imagining the energy of those crowds gets us hyped ! How did you guys get into electronic music, what was the moment you guys knew that you were ready to be Blasterjaxx? Back in 2010, we kicked off our journey by diving headfirst into the world of Latin House music. But then 2011 came around, and suddenly EDM was the voice of the world. We took all those Latin influences and threw them into the mix, birthing what would eventually be known as “Big Room.” Crazy to think that back then, the term “Big Room” wasn’t even on the radar – we were just having a blast experimenting with different sounds. And who would’ve guessed? Our little experiment turned into one of the hottest sounds of that time. How does your creative process work for you two as the Blasterjaxx duo? Any secrets that you’d like to share that makes your process of production seamless? To be honest, I believe we’re incredibly lucky we have found each other. We complement each other perfectly, and the chemistry between us is fantastic. This dynamic extends seamlessly into the studio. Whenever Idir needed feedback, Thom was able to provide exactly what he needed. Our ideas aligned seamlessly. What genre of music do you draw inspiration from? If we opened both your streaming service of choice (Spotify/Apple Music etc) what would be your last listened to track? In every song we create, we strive to blend different influences together as much as possible. We believe it’s this fusion of styles that makes our duo so strong.
