[EDMTunes] Deathpact Issues Apology Following Incident with Fan at Phoenix Show
Electronic music artist Deathpact has issued a public apology after an incident with a fan at a recent show in Phoenix. The artist, who performs masked, addressed the situation in a statement released today on X. My intention was to give her a friendly shoulder tap. I missed her shoulder.” The artist emphasized that their actions do not reflect their values or the ethos of the Deathpact project. “My wife, my family, and team were right there with me in that moment. As soon as I became aware of what happened, I apologized to her and her partner that same evening, in person. This is not in any way – and never has been – what we as a project or I as an individual stand for. I am sickened that I failed her, our community, my team, and my family.” Deathpact also acknowledged a misstep in their initial response to the situation earlier this week. “Earlier this week while trying to address the situation as quickly as possible, we missed the mark in trying to explain what happened. My responsibility isn’t just about what I meant to do, it’s about the impact of my actions on others. Period.” Moving forward, Deathpact announced changes to the way they will engage with fans. “Going forward, we are changing how we engage with our community to ensure that personal space is respected so that something like this never happens again.” The apology comes in response to a video that circulated online, capturing the incident at the Phoenix show. [EDM.com] Mexican Government Shuts Down Controversial Dolphin Facility at Venue of ILLENIUM's Festival, Ember Shores
Government officials have shut down the operations of a controversial dolphin attraction at the Barceló Riviera Maya, the host venue of ILLENIUM's Ember Shores festival, following a month-long investigation, Mexico News Daily reports. The move follows months of advocacy with a recent push from the festival's organizers. The initial crackdown was triggered by a viral video showing a dolphin, Mincho, suffering a severe acrobatic injury after landing on concrete during a performance in January, along with reports of two dolphin deaths last year. Citing inadequate conditions, a lack of proper permits and unauthorized activities, Profepa, Mexico’s environmental enforcement agency, reportedly found that the facility was in violation of multiple regulations. Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection Mariana Boy Tamborrell confirmed the shutdown on social media. 🚧 La Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente suspendió este día actividades en el delfinario del Hotel Barceló Riviera Maya, pues esta instalación no cuenta con la autorización de la Semarnat para realizar actividades de espectáculos con delfines. 🐬 @SEMARNAT_mx… pic.twitter.com/8aPHtyuVTb — PROFEPA (@PROFEPA_Mx) March 11, 2025 The news follows our earlier report on Ember Shores' efforts to investigate the dolphinarium. The festival faced pressure from fans and activists to take a stand against dolphin captivity as the facility's practices became public. While concerns remain over Mincho's survival, Tamborrel stated that the dolphin has been relocated for monitoring. She also claimed that Profepa will continue to carry out inspections of all the dolphinariums across the country to ensure proper treatment. Profepa's decision establishes a precedent for stricter oversight of marine animal facilities in Mexico, prompting the enforcement of existing regulations and further inspections across the country. “We support the investigation into this case and call for transparent inspections in all dolphinariums in the country," said Eugenia Morales, Wildlife Campaigns Manager at World Animal Protection. "It’s time for this to be the last generation of dolphins used for entertainment in Mexico."

[EDM House Network] Above & Beyond Announce New Album, ‘Bigger Than All of Us’
Above & Beyond are returning this July with a brand new album, the first one in seven years. Titled ‘Bigger Than All of Us,’ the album represents the group’s gratefulness for what they have and what they’ve created so far together. The album will debut on 18th July and will be taken on a tour later this year. The dates are yet to be confirmed, but the British trio announced that more news will follow soon. Until then, ‘Bigger Than All of Us’ will be teased through the release of ‘Quicksand (Don’t Go)’ which is set to release Friday, 21st March. The song features Zoë Johnston’s vocals, a British singer and song-writer who has collaborated with the trance band multiple times and gave colour to some of the most beautiful Above & Beyond creations. ‘Quicksand (Don’t Go)’ was premiered by the trio in 2024, during their set at Group Therapy 600, and will be the first song people hear from the ‘Bigger Than All of Us’ album. The collaboration with Zoë Johnston has been announced to be only one of the many cross-overs that the album will have. The trance producers mentioned that ‘Bigger Than All of Us’ will contain collaborations with familiar artists, as well as new musicians. The three members of Above & Beyond spoke a few words about the upcoming release in July, saying: “how lucky we are that we get to be part of something like this for 25 years, and to have built a community that cares for each other in the way it does. It’s not about any of us individually. When we all work together to make something happen, something bigger happens.” The new Above & Beyond album arrives this year just in time for the 25th anniversary of the trio’s label, Anjunabeats. Launched in July 2000, the label had the honour of bringing music from the likes of Alan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Bayer, Audien and many more to electronic music enthusiasts all over the world. ‘Bigger Than All of Us’ is now available for pre-order in vinyl and CD formats, along with limited edition merchandise that can be found on the official Above & Beyond website.

[GrooveCartel] TWO LANES and Recondite team up for ‘Luna’
“Luna,” the stunning new single from TWO LANES and Recondite, doesn’t just mix styles; it reimagines what’s possible when neoclassical elegance meets the hypnotic pulse of atmospheric techno. Leo and Rafa, who are brothers, make up TWO LANES. They are known for finding the perfect mix between classical instruments and electronic production. The emotional core of their work is their signature piano records, which are close, rich, and full of life. These crystal melodies and the carefully made analog synth textures that go with them make music that sounds both classic and completely modern. Here comes Recondite, an artist whose ten-year journey through the more reflective parts of techno has made him one of the genre’s most unique voices. The artist’s most recent record, “Indifferent” (October 2024), shows that he is still pushing the limits and finding new emotional ground in soundscapes that breathe and change slowly. “Luna” started with a simple piano track and some synth explorations from TWO LANES. These were the delicate seeds that would grow when they worked together. Recondite’s transforming touch added new dimensions to the composition. He gave the beat kinetic energy and shaped the track’s stunning middle section, where tension builds with masterful control and then breaks out into moments of pure sonic catharsis. We’ve been long-time fans of Recondite’s music and are excited to finally share our collaboration. It all started with a piano recording and some synth ideas we sent his way. Recondite then added his unique touch to the track, giving the beat more energy and crafting the build-up in the middle. We went back and forth for a while until we all felt it was perfect. – TWO LANES The main part of the song, a buildup that gets stronger over time and shows how good both artists are at manipulating emotions, creates a moment of sublime tension before melting into a stunning ending. In these times, the collaboration shows its true strength: it can take fans to emotional places that neither artist could have made on their own. [EDM House Network] DJ And Club Night Discovery Platform ‘Dancefloor’ Launches
The nightlife industry is one that is going through a rough time at the moment with clubs around the world shutting down due to financial problems. However, thanks to the launch of Dancefloor there could a shift in this momentum. Founded by Ben King, Dancefloor is a platform that allows fans to find when and where their favourite DJs are performing, DJs to get in touch with promoters, and promoters to advertise their events. [UKF] Catching up with SHOSH
There’s never a bad time to redefine yourself, and SHOSH is the latest example of this. After 10 years of being at the forefront of garage with 24 Hour Garage Girls, she thought it was time for something different. This does not mean she’s done with garage, though. She’s still got her weekly show on KISS FM and is still incredibly passionate about building up the scene and supporting the underground movement. While trying something different, the right direction turned out to be dubstep. In 2024 SHOSH released her first ever dubstep track ‘This is Not a Test’ on UKF, and in 2025, she’s following this up with ‘Skanner Power’ on Deadbeats and an upcoming EP on Deep, Dark & Dangerous. “I feel like I’m really nailing my dubstep sound and that’s just giving me so much confidence,” she says. We had a chat with her and talked about her move to the dubstep scene. A lot has happened since the last time you sat down with us in 2021… Tell us all about it! I’m so grateful for everything that the garage scene has done for me. I started with a brand idea and as a promoter in 2013, putting on parties, and then I grew into a DJ and a producer organically out of that. Garage seemed to be the place that I was best suited for because of the branding and the ideas that we had at the time. I think I’ve always struggled to make the kind of music that I want to be making in the garage genre. It’s always been a little bit of a struggle to get there quality wise. With my production I’ve always felt like I’m underperforming, I didn’t really ever make that big garage banger, but then I started making dubstep last year. It was actually an accident, because I was just messing around on Ableton and I had all these random ideas about, oh, maybe I’ll try a jungle track or maybe I’ll just throw a lot of ideas into the mix and see what comes out. Let’s play with it. I accidentally made dubstep out of that and it felt so natural. It’s almost a cosmic thing. When I sit down to make a dubstep track now, I finish it that night and it’s something I’m really proud of. I’ve been getting these tunes signed to lots of amazing labels and big international organizations that I’ve really looked up to over the years. I never really felt like I got that far with garage so it felt like an instinctive calling to dubstep. It’s been something that I’m naturally much more proficient with in the studio so, I’m very excited to be launching this new direction for myself. It is a step away from the brand that I brought up, 24 Hour Garage Girls is my identity and it’s been my brand and my identity for 10 years. So the step away from that has been quite scary, but I’m so excited about this next chapter. So are you completely done with garage? No, as 24 hour Garage Girls, I can continue to play garage and with KISS FM I’m still flying the flag for underground artists and helping the scene with breaking new artists and keeping the genre relevant right at the forefront of KISS. I can perform with my garage girls Kelsey, Millie, Jasmine, they’re some of my closest friends and I would be so sad if I didn’t get to perform with them anymore. I can still do all of that but then the idea of SHOSH as a solo artist is now fully 140 dubstep, so I’m getting the best of both worlds. I am trying to get KISS to let me play some dubstep on my show, TBC on that one. I feel like KISS FM needs a dubstep specialist show and I’m on it. When did the love for 140 start? I used to be a massive dubstep head in the 2010s. Oh my gosh, I was absolutely obsessed with dubstep. I used to listen to every single Zeds Dead mix, even some Skrillex and Pendulum stuff. Artists like Skream and Benga, Coki, Flux Pavilion, these artists were absolutely out of this world geniuses to me. I used to live in Brighton back in that time and they used to put on an event called FreeBass, a free dubstep all night event. I would still go around the side of the building and sneak in around the side just so that I was there for every minute of it. Even though it was free to get in! But I never saw myself making dubstep back then, it was more of a personal passion whereas garage was my identity and my brand. It feels crazy to be meeting all these artists now, 15 years later, and actually getting to tour and collaborate with them when I was a die-hard fan back in the day. How have you changed as an artist going from garage to dubstep? Being a garage girl, that’s definitely still in me. I love the genre, I love the artists that I worked alongside for the last 10 years, I love playing it. I think the biggest difference on a personal level is probably my confidence. I always felt like something was missing from my garage production whereas I feel like I’m really nailing my dubstep sound and that’s just giving me so much confidence. Just knowing that I can do it, knowing that there’s not something wrong with me. I’m reaching my potential in the studio with dubstep. You were saying that your confidence is getting higher now. On your socials, you’re really open, playing your song in public and doing these videos. That’s nice to see... It’s so hard. As much as I feel confident now in the studio, I’m still a total introvert and going out in the streets and making TikToks or trying to make videos, it’s a mix of cringe and being mortified. I get really shaky before I do it. But then I think, if I don’t do it, then I’ve only got myself to blame for not moving forward. I still hate doing content, but at least I know the track is a banger, so I can at least back myself on that. How do you get over that initial nervousness? When I’m playing to a huge crowd, I’ve got that voice in the back of my head. They booked you, they want you here, so I try to manifest that. I’m invited, people have asked me to come and play my music here. It’s about giving everything to the crowd and making sure that the promoter gets a good show. Doing live performances has never been about my emotions or how I feel, it’s always been about delivering to the crowd, delivering to the event and giving everybody a really amazing time. With making content, no one’s asked you to do that like. You’re just standing on a street corner getting in people’s way or giving people something to laugh at on their commute home or whatever. It feels very different. Luckily I feel so welcomed and invited by the dubstep community. UKF has been amazing. Dead Beats have been incredible. Deep Dark & Dangerous, who I’m releasing with next month… Everyone has been so supportive, sending me garms and supporting the music and booking me for shows in America and Asia. I feel so welcome and I’m so grateful for it. How is the dubstep scene different from the garage one? I don’t know yet. I can’t wait to find out though. Despite releasing a couple of records I’ve only played one or two dubstep specific sets. One of them was for UKF at Drumsheds, which was amazing. I loved planning for that set because it was my first opportunity to go wall to wall 140 all the way through, and delivering that set to the crowd was so much fun. For now, I’m really looking forward to finding out more about what dubstep raves are like, especially in America. I am going to America in three weeks and it’s going to be dubstep shows over stateside. I know it’s huge over there, so I’m going to get a real taste for dubstep raves then. I can’t wait. The difference between UK and US dubstep as well! Yeah, I prefer UK dubstep over US dubstep, though. I prefer the minimal bassy, more rootsy vibes that UK dubstep has. It’s very subby, it’s very woppy, it’s very low frequency, moody and I love that. As happy as I appear, I’m a very grumpy girl and that fits me right to the T. But I love the energy behind American dubstep and some of the producers out there are absolutely killing it. So yeah, I’m looking forward to seeing the difference in real life. There’s definitely a merge happening between the UK and US sound, because DJs like Hamdi are moving to the States now. You’ve got a bit of that sound in your tracks as well. Thank you, I love Hamdi. He’s probably been the biggest inspiration for my tunes. I’m actually an American citizen, I lived in Chicago till I was a teenager, so I can go back quite easily. This year I’ve got more gigs in America than I have confirmed in the UK. I’m going out for a tour in April but then I’m also going back in July, August and September for individual big stadium shows. America seems to be the place that keeps pulling me back at the moment so I might end up doing a Hamdi! It feels like everything that I’ve been waiting for from garage over the last 10 years is happening in dubstep in the space of six months. It feels really powerful. What are you taking from garage into 140? Do you feel the influence? Definitely! With most of my dubstep tracks I’ve literally stolen hi-hats and percussive things right out of my garage projects. I’ve taken all of the sounds from my garage drums and repurposed them into the dubstep tracks. The drum work feels quite similar sonically but then to be honest, the bassy wubs and everything, they’re really not that dissimilar. When I play a live set I will mix garage in at 140 and have a two-step moment. Why not? I’m really excited to see how well that goes down in America. There’s definitely a scene bubbling there. You’ve got a few 140 tracks out now on different labels, the most recent one is ‘Skanner Power’ on Deadbeats. How did you end up working with them? I hunted down Deadbeats, because they’ve got so many artists that I look up to on their roster. A Hundred Drums, Sicaria, Hamdi, Moody Good, Levity, all these amazing female artists, loads of really powerful UK dubstep and American dubstep artists. I could see this being a really good home for my music, alongside artists I really look up to. It’s been a great honor to release with them and there hopefully is more in the works with them in the future. Another label I’m gonna release with this year is Deep, Dark & Dangerous. I met them when I went to play Outlook Festival a few years ago and I was on the same artist transport with Dre from Truth who runs the label. We had a chat and we kept in touch because we had respect for each other’s genres. When I started making dubstep, it was a year and a half later. I was thinking of who I knew who supports dubstep. I ended up messaging him and he instantly was like, “We’ll sign it.” I’ve got an ep with them coming out soon, so they’ve signed a few tracks of mine. That was just super organic. It was two people who love music finding the right home for these particular tracks. Last but not least, I released with UKF in November 2024. ‘This Is Not a Test’ came out and I would say that was probably the biggest honor for me. UKF are the goats for dance music in the UK. I’ve been looking at that purple circle on YouTube for the full 15 years. Having my debut with them felt like I couldn’t have asked for a better launch to enter the genre. I’m releasing more with them in 2025, which I’m very happy about. Any final thoughts? One of the great things about working in the dubstep genre is that I’ve started collabing with Flava D and Mary Droppinz, two really powerful female producers. They’re amazing at what they do, genuine artists. So I’m excited to finish up those projects and get them out as well. ‘Skanner Power’ is out now, and look out for the Deep, Dark & Dangerous EP dropping in April. I’m also coming to America in April, so keep an eye out!

[Decoded] Crow Hill Company creates VAULTS – ACID SYNTH as an homage to the revered Roland TB-303
The Crow Hill Company has announced the availability of VAULTS – ACID SYNTHas the latest entry into its lengthening line of free and accessible virtual instruments arising from company co-founder and composer Christian Henson effectively opening his ‘vaults’ for everyone to enjoy — this time creating an homage to the revered Roland TB-303 Bass Line, launched with high hopes in 1981 as a so-called Computer Controlled bass synth by the Japanese giant of electronic musical instrument manufacturing responsible for its creation before being deemed a commercial failure and discontinued quite quickly thereafter, though it was later instrumental in driving Acid House into the musical mainstream as a whole new EDM (Electronic Dance Music) genre and associated cultural movement, the popularity of which triggered a dramatic rise in the price of used units — as of March 19… It is fair to say that when Roland released its TB-303 Bass Line in 1981 as a so-called Computer Controlled bass synth with the intention of mimicking the characteristics of an electric bass guitar, there were far fewer tools to create electronic music available. But buyers of the TB-303 Bass Line were possibly swayed by the fact that it could be time-synced — using Roland’s proprietary five-pin DIN sync interface (later superseded by MIDI) — to its contemporarily-released Computer Controlled sibling, the TR-606 Drumatix drum machine, making for an affordable rhythm section that could conceivably fit into a small briefcase as a beautiful backing combination for the solo gigging musician, further helped by both devices being battery operated as an attractive alternative to their (included) AC adapters… or so Roland had hoped. Though the engineers involved tried their best to imitate the sound of an electric bass guitar with the technology of the time, the TB-303 Bass Line fell short in capturing its subtleties as an instrument, sadly, so it was discontinued within a couple of years, with Roland cheaply selling off the last of the 10,000 units manufactured. Now, normally this would be the end of the story, yet something incredible happened… Helpfully, for the benefit of anyone not already in the know, The Crow Hill Company’s Theo Le Derf picks up what is an incredible story in itself: “DJ Pierre and his band called Phuture found a used TB-303 in a music shop in Chicago for a bargain price. They started experimenting with the bass sequencer and a drum machine while playing about randomly with the filter and resonance knobs. The sound they produced was so unique and, frankly, weird that they decided to commit the jam session to tape. With the release of this experiment on Trax Records in 1987,they unwittingly birthed a new genre: Acid House. This slimy, hypnotic, subversive sound subsequently built a cultural movement, and was the soundtrack to many illegal warehouse parties of the late Eighties — all of this from a tiny synth that was used ‘incorrectly’.” Thanks to VAULTS – ACID SYNTH’s GUI (Graphical User Interface) being as intuitive as always, correct — or ‘incorrect’ — usage of the virtual instrument in question comes quickly. “The first large dial — CUT OFF — is a 24dB lowpass filter that controls what high frequencies you cut out, and it is automatically assigned to MIDI CC1.” So starts Theo Le Derf by way of an appropriately quick guided tour, before continuing: “RESONANCE determines the peak of the filter as it opens and closes, which creates that characteristically ‘squelchy’ sound that the synth is known for. The small dials are more concentrated effects — MOD controls how much voltage is being sent to the filter, so you can get some really interesting sounds by adjusting the CUT OFF dial and MOD simultaneously; DECAY controls the decay for all the envelopes; and, ofcourse, there is also our standard ECHO and SPLOSH, with the SPLOSH being an algorithmic imitation of a cave, which suits this synth so brilliantly.” It is as easy as that, though Theo Le Derf is keen to add: “Another thing to mention is that you can obviously play staccato, but when you playlegato — MIDI notes overlapping with one another, you get a glide between the notes. This glide effect is another characteristic that the ’303 is renowned for.” No need, necessarily, then, to risk dropping a bank-balance-busting four-figure sum on a decades-old Roland TB-303 Bass Line when The CrowHill Company’s ‘tribute’ truly captures the essence of its distinctive sound for all to enjoy for literally nothing. Notes Theo Le Derf, ending on a high note: “The story arc of this synth is so amazing — from its unpromising beginning to completely defining a genre and an era, it’s so exciting to have this celebrated instrument at my fingertips for free!” VAULTS – ACID SYNTH is free for everyone — as are all VAULTS… releases from The Crow Hill Company — from here: https://thecrowhillcompany.com/vaults/ VAULTS – ACID SYNTH installation and activation requires installation of The Crow Hill App — an easy-to-use app designed by the best in the business to provide seamless download, installation, integration, calibration, and organisation of The Crow Hill Company tools — available for free from here: https://thecrowhillcompany.com/crow-hill-app/ The post Crow Hill Company creates VAULTS – ACID SYNTH as an homage to the revered Roland TB-303 appeared first on Decoded Magazine.
