This track came out on May 9, 2011, showcasing Avicii‘s signature melodic piano house style that had already begun to captivate fans worldwide. ‘Blessed’ quickly became a fan favorite, resonating deeply with audiences, especially after Avicii included it in his groundbreaking performance at Tomorrowland 2011. Indulis Bilzens – early rave culture ideologist and driving force passed away at the age 84
The hero of the documentary Era of Dance and the ideologist of revolutionary rave culture events during the 80s and 90s Indulis Bilzens passed away in Frankfurt following an illness. Last weekend in Frankfurt people from different generations who were close connected to Bilzens, said Adios to the Master (as many called him). Indulis Bilzens. Born in Riga on April 27, 1940 – a refugee of WW2- graduating from the Latvian Gymnasium in Munster, Cambridge College and Technical University of Stuttgart after which he dedicated decades to creating and strengthen the movement of independent media in the post-war era. It all culminated with the founding of the independent Press Corps “ID” in Frankfurt in the 70s which later became the well-known newspaper “Die Tageszeitung” and forming an artist based opposition movement contrary to conservative Germany. He was also the publisher of the avant-garde magazine “D!Fanatic” and worked as a broadcaster for WDR Radio in Cologne and Stuttgart. Indulis Bilzens during the 80s created independent TV broadcasts (Braeunungsstudio Malaria” and others) where he granted greater freedom over the new talents from the music and arts scene. In the early ’80s, Bilzen’s love affair with electronic music began, introducing German listeners to new talent and giving the stage name to Maximilian Lenz – DJ WestBam. After all, it was thanks to his efforts in the USSR that in 1987 the first Western DJ Westbam came to Riga (part of the Soviet Union back then), whose performance amazed the adherents of the Soviet disco movement, who literally took Westbam’s manifesto about record art. and then transformed into a unique new youth culture. Bilzens was a visionary man and culture historian who was the driving force and ideologist of many electronic music culture and independent media projects of the 80s and 90s. Bilzen’s influence on the early techno music scene in Germany and the late Soviet Union was undeniable. Berlin’s cult label Low Spirit and the first techno music festival in Europe Mayday are just some of the projects behind which Indulis Bilzēns stood. The movie ”Era of Dance”, released in 2017 and directed by Viktors Buda, was dedicated to the techno music movement and the relationships between the West and the East. Indulis Bilzens served as a diplomat for this historic invasion, one that would become a cultural phenomena. Desert Hearts Festival announces lineup for 2024 edition
Desert Hearts Festival has long been defined by a feeling of belonging and solidarity on its universally celebrated dancefloor. It’s a place where self-discoveries are realized, lifelong family is found, and the boundary between artist and reveller evaporates with ease. This year, Desert Hearts has sought a return to its roots, teaming up with its longtime allies at Walter Productions to reinvigorate their foundational ethos at the beautiful Playa Ponderosa in Northern Arizona, July 4-8. In tune with this mission, Desert Hearts has enlisted artists close to the beating heart of its 12-year journey to raise a flag of unity in its brand-new location. Each selector represents a different chapter in the Desert Hearts saga, a patchwork of longtime family members, Desert Hearts Records mainstays, and those who have inspired the sonic tastes of the founding group since their humble beginnings. In the words of Desert Hearts Co-Founder Mikey Lion, “The festival industry is in a make-or-break moment of time as it grapples with rising costs, market saturation, and a stalling economy. Independent festivals and the communities that grow around them are the heart and soul of the music world, but they are struggling to survive.” Mikey continues, “While many festivals focus on recycling the same trending headliners to compete with festival giants, Desert Hearts is taking a different approach. This year our festival is focused on building up our community, showcasing label friends and family, talented local DJs, and a number of our favourite international touring artists. Desert Hearts Festival is “One Stage, One Vibe” playing nonstop House & Techno all weekend long. We’re essentially programming a 72-hour DJ set with the right artists playing the right music at the right time. Everything Desert Hearts Festival does is geared towards creating the best possible vibe, and on July 4th weekend, we’re going to throw the best party in the world.” Returning attendees will be no stranger to the returning favourites who have soundtracked unforgettable memories on DH dancefloors past including the likes of veteran production duo Walker & Royce fresh off their sophomore album, Berlin techno veteran Anja Schneider, historic clubland favourite Doc Martin, and Los Angeles mainstay VNSSA. Plenty of world-class international talent will also be scattered among the bill, from Soundgarden founder NickWarren, to, Kater Blau resident Mira, Shanti Radio label head Gorje Hewek, and the unique stylising of Coco & Breezy. Additional acts to discover include the unpredictable expertise of Atish, Andhera label boss Ky William, Burning Man staple Tara Brooks, sister DJ duo Lisbona Sisters, the smooth styling sounds of Life On Planets, the hypnotic sounds of ÖonaDahl, cinematic techno producer Rinzen, four to the floor favourites like Kevin Knapp and Gettoblaster, and the party-starting Ardalan – each artist arrives with their own unique story to tell at Playa Ponderosa. In true Desert Hearts Fashion, the next generation of house and techno superstars will take centre stage, with sets in tow from Nala, Mary Droppinz, SHADED, and Lubelski. Of course, attendees can expect alluring journeys from the Desert Hearts crew who know the crowd and dancefloor better than anyone, represented by co-founders Mikey Lion, Marbs, LeeReynolds, and Porky. There will also be a special Desert Hearts crew closing B2B to properly close out the festival. The partnership between Desert Hearts and Walter Productions stems from a decade-long relationship born at Burning Man. Walter is known for its fleet of art cars, most famously ‘Walter’, the world’s largest VW Bus forged from a retired fire truck. Walter has since expanded its influence on the Arizona arts and music scene with its venues Walter Where?House and Walter Studios, the Walter Station Brewery, and its foundational nonprofit arm, the Walter Hive. The Walter team has been a mainstay of numerous events and festivals like Bonnaroo, EDC and Life is Beautiful, bringing their art cars, travelling stage Kalliope, and larger-than-life fire features and installations to crowds for more than a decade. Desert Hearts Festival 2024 fittingly takes over July 4th weekend to redefine what it means to be truly free under azure skies. Nestled in the natural splendour of Coconino National Forest just 30 minutes outside of Flagstaff, the 75-acre private property of Playa Ponderosa sits at an elevation of 7,000 feet, smack-dab in the world’s largest ponderosa pine forest — notably one of the most iconic sites in the United States. The private venue will allow Desert Hearts to channel the renegade spirit felt at its original home of Los Coyotes Indian Reservation while offering a cool-weather respite from Arizona’s notorious summer temperatures, with average temperatures ranging from the low 50s to the low 80s. The 2024 edition will move back to its foundational ‘one-stage, one-vibe’ format and showcase its unique festival layout: an interconnected arena of theme camps, live painters, installations, and art cars that border the entire dance floor – set to the backdrop of the majestic Ponderosa Pines and spectacular views of Flagstaff’s San Francisco Peaks. For those in pursuit of full sensory immersion, Desert Hearts Festival will provide attendees access to a host theme camps including Pile Palace, which hosts a plush dancefloor lounge and free beverages to patrons, the Dreamscape Collective Art Gallery featuring a tea lounge alongside visionary art, spiritual wellness at the Healing Sanctuary, and a Walter Theme Camp and art car arena around the dance floor, plus a vendor village with craft and clothing vendors as well as a variety of food and beverage options. Another key art fixture will be the Black Hole Experience (BHX), an immersive black hole simulation in a mobile format making its USA and festival debut created by Montreal-based environmental organization Age of Union and its founder Dax Dasilva and designed by multidisciplinary artist Kelly Nunes. Tickets for the 2024 edition of Desert Hearts Festival are currently 70% sold out. Tomorrowland 2024 Stage by Stage Lineup Could Have a Problem
Tomorrowland Festival is coming back to De Schorre in Belgium in just over two months to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Finally, the full lineup for the two-weekend extravaganza has been released. Over 800 of the biggest names in dance music are playing on 16 stages, so music fans of all kinds will be able to find something they like. A lot of big names in music are going to be there, like David Guetta, Tiësto, Alesso, Oliver Heldens, and Don Diablo. There will also be underground techno giants like Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens, and Tale Of Us, as well as returning favorites like Swedish House Mafia and Hardwell. There are, however, some worries among eager fans about the last two scenes. Hardwell and Swedish House Mafia are both set to play on the same day on different stages during weekend 1, which means that their sets might overlap if they are placed too close to each other on the list. When two of the most-anticipated shows happen at the same time, fans would have to make the tough decision of which famous act to see. Even though the show times haven’t been announced yet, many people are nervous about the idea of these two generations of artists playing against each other. Fans are hoping that Tomorrowland has thought about this possible problem and will schedule Hardwell and Swedish House Mafia so that people can see both of their hugely popular sets. Weekend 2 is safe tho, with both Swedish House Mafia and Hardwell playing on the mainstage. No matter what, the lineup is absolutely packed from top to bottom with a wide range of acts from every corner of electronic music. ACRAZE, Boris Brejcha, John Newman, Purple Disco Machine, Rezz, and Vintage Culture are just a few of the well-known artists who will be playing. Tomorrowland’s 20th-anniversary event is set to be one for the ages. It will be themed around “LIFE” as a lead-up to 2016’s “Elixir of Life” idea. But the party planners would be smart to deal with the Hardwell/Swedish House Mafia schedule problem ahead of time to make sure everything goes smoothly. Their set was a perfect blend of old favorites and new tracks, keeping everyone engaged and dancing until the early hours of the morning. By the time they took their final bow, the crowd was left in awe, wanting more and already looking forward to the next time they could experience the group live. About Keinemusik Keinemusik is a group made up of five Berlin-based DJs, producers, and artists – Rampa, &ME, Adam Port, Monja, and Reznik. What does “keine musik” mean? Well, it directly translates to “no music” in German. Interesting choice to say the least. The origin story of the group starts with Rampa and &ME’s first meeting at a recording studio in Kreuzberg where &ME was an intern. They hit it off and began meeting regularly to work on music. Rampa already knew two of the other members who would eventually make up the collective – Adam Port and Reznik. It was Rampa’s idea to form a collective. Keinemusk came to fruition in 2009 when Reznik relocated to Berlin. Shortly thereafter, they met Monja, who was bartending at the club they had a residency at. They brought her on as their creative director/designer of sorts as she is a visual artist. They formed this powerful group and the rest is history. At the center of the collective is their record label. Their mission statement is “The spirit to find your own agenda and let nobody get in the way. The spirit of refining House and Techno off the beaten path”. Fashion is an essential pillar of the Keinemusik brand. The group has been making merch since its conception. Just a few years after getting together, the group landed a collaboration with Nike. The group worked with Nike on their release of the Nike Air Pegasus ’89 “Berlin,” a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. They’ve had several other notable fashion collaborations throughout the years including working with Converse and designer Native Teenage. The group is still actively releasing music and running the festival circuit worldwide. It doesn’t seem like they’re planning on slowing down any time soon. Benjamin Ingrosso said: “I came up with ‘Honey Boy’ at a nightclub in Stockholm, carried away by the rhythm of a house beat that instantly had me humming along to what would become the chorus. (…) We all felt the potential the song had and that we had to add more talented influences to make it reach its full potential”. He then adds, “I reached out to Tino [Purple Disco Machine] to see if he wanted to finalise it with me, which he wanted! After having gone back and forth and crafted what we believed was the perfect foundation for the song, we reached out to Shenseea who joined in and added her touch to the record.“ “The final piece of the puzzle was when Tino got Nile Rodgers to add live guitar to the song, infusing the track with authentic disco-era vibes.” -Benjamin Ingrosso Purple Disco Machine adds: “Benjamin sent the track to me late last year and I was immediately intrigued by its hook, infectious melody and overall funky vibes. I just couldn’t wait to really upgrade and highlight the disco and funk sensibilities of this one. Shenseea’s voice just fits the song perfectly and really complements Benjamin’s amazing vocal performance”. And as a piece of Trivia, he didn’t hesitate to mention Rogders: “Obviously with an artist name like mine it is pretty easy to guess that Nile Rodgers is one of my all-time heroes and someone I always dreamed of working with. Legend doesn’t really cover it! I reached out to his team and was just so thrilled when his guitar lines came back“. “It’s the perfect match to this track and I could not be prouder to have my name with his on the artist credits. Just can’t wait to actually meet him.” -Purple Disco Machine Revival of Disco Purple Disco Machine has been at the forefront of a disco revival, earning accolades and chart success with his infectious grooves. The track follows recent singles ‘Higher Ground’ feat. Spotify Moves Lyrics To Premium Subscription Features
In an unannounced move that’s stirring up conversations across social media, Spotify has begun restricting access to one of its cherished features — song lyrics — on the free tier. The introduction of a lyric-viewing cap for non-premium users marks another step in Spotify’s strategy to encourage a shift towards its paid subscription. Listening With Limits For the spontaneous lyricist in all of us who revel in decoding misheard lines, Spotify’s free tier has been a haven of musical exploration. However, recent reports, including those from Android Authority and Dexerto, highlight a new limitation. Screenshots shared by users depict messages indicating a monthly cap on how many times one can view lyrics without a premium subscription. This feature adjustment has not been officially announced but is evident from user-shared experiences online. Behind the Paywall Push This strategy isn’t unique to Spotify. It reflects a broader trend in the streaming industry, where services are gradually moving essential features behind paywalls, increasing prices, and enforcing stricter account-sharing rules. Companies like YouTube are tightening grips on ad blockers, directing users towards their premium services. While Spotify still offers a free, ad-supported version — akin to a digital radio with limited skips and shuffled playlists — the gap between free and premium benefits continues to widen. The Cost of Streaming With 615 million monthly active users and a solid base of 239 million paying subscribers as of the end of March 2024, Spotify remains a powerhouse in the streaming world. Despite its popularity and a reported €3.6 billion in sales in early 2024, the company is navigating financial challenges, evidenced by significant layoffs in the previous year. This context paints a picture of a streaming giant balancing user experience with economic pressures. Spotify’s move to monetize lyrics can be seen as part of a broader strategy to enhance revenue streams amidst the costly demands of licensing music and operating globally. Lastly, as streaming platforms evolve, the delineation between free and premium offerings becomes sharper, posing the question: Are we witnessing the end of truly free digital music experiences? In conclusion, for more information check out Spotify’s official website, here. [H/T] – CNET The post Spotify Moves Lyrics To Premium Subscription Features appeared first on EDMTunes.

Lovers & Friends Festival 2024 Canceled Just Hours Before Kickoff
Less than a day away from its grand opening, the Lovers & Friends Festival 2024 was abruptly canceled. This was due to severe weather warnings. Set to begin at noon in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, the festival promised an unforgettable experience. One with an iconic lineup including Usher, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, and the Backstreet Boys. However, the dream event for many millennials turned into a nightmare as organizers announced the cancellation early Saturday morning. The cancellation cited safety concerns over the impending “dangerous weather.” Global Disappointment Amidst Nature’s Fury The news has left thousands of music enthusiasts from around the globe in dismay, many of whom had already arrived in Las Vegas, ready to relive the hits of the early 2000s. The festival’s rich roster featured legends like Mary J. Blige, Gwen Stefani, Nas, and Snoop Dogg, promising a day of nostalgic beats and rhythmic bliss. Unfortunately, this year’s edition seems to echo the ill-fated beginnings of the festival in 2022, which was also cut short under distressing circumstances. A History of Weather-Induced Letdowns in Vegas Las Vegas, no stranger to weather-related disruptions at large-scale events, has seen its fair share of cancellations. From the Electric Daisy Carnival’s main stage shutdown in 2019 to the Day N Vegas festival’s cancellation due to extreme heat in 2022, the city has witnessed several events being derailed by nature’s unpredictability. Notably, Adele’s last-minute residency postponement in 2022 added to the list of unexpected changes that fans have had to endure. What’s Next? As disappointment looms large, the organizers have assured that all ticket purchases through Front Gate Tickets will be refunded within the next 30 days. Although this provides a small solace to the fans, the heartbreak of a missed musical reunion lingers. With a history of both spectacular performances and unforeseen setbacks, the future of the Lovers & Friends Festival remains as unpredictable as the weather that thwarted its 2024 edition. Third Party unveil “Believe,” Martin Garrix ID from Ultra Miami
With the release of Third Party‘s new song “Believe,” festival season just got a huge booster shot. Third Party wanted to make a happy, festival-ready hit, and that’s where the idea for “Believe” came from. Even though the beats were heavy and the melodies were beautiful, they knew that the instrumental needed a great singer to take it to a whole new level. Here come Raffie and Madeline, two incredibly skilled singers and songwriters. The two wrote the song’s original uplifting vocal hook and words, drawing on feelings of hope, determination, and self-belief. Their performances in the studio were great for the upbeat vibe Third Party was going for. But the members of Third Party are unwavering perfectionists who won’t be happy with their work until it has all the energy and feeling they can get out of it. The singers Raffie and Madeline were great, but they knew they needed one more voice—one that could cut through any concert sound system and hit music fans right in the heart. Nuala was the only person who could answer. The singer’s raw power and intense performance can’t be beat. Third Party looped her into the session, and she gave a fiery performance that went well with what Raffie and Madeline had already done. The emotional impact of Nuala’s input was amplified by its catchy nature. Martin Garrix played the first listen of “Believe” at the Ultra Miami set, giving fans a sneak peek at the new single. The song quickly sent the crowd crazy. The Ultra tease and months of waiting paid off, and now “Believe” is here as a summer smash hit for all time.
