  2. Slay is killing it. He’s taken things up a notch with collaborations with Chimpo and Bou, but in his most recent collaboration with Sigma, he wants to go back to his roots. Community being an important part of his career, he wants to say thanks with the video for the track. You can see him hanging out at his local barbershop, partying at his local club, and grabbing some chicken at his favourite chicken shop. “I wanted the video to be as close to me as possible. If you were to hang out at one of these locations, you would probably bump into me,” Slay says. Since we last spoke with him, not only has he grown as an artist, but the whole scene seems to have exploded around him as well. “I don’t know what happened in the past two years, but it just seems like everything’s got a bit better for our scene. It’s grown fast for everyone in a short space of time,” he explains. We talked with Slay about his recent tracks, and how the drum and bass scene has grown recently. Most of the artists you’ve worked with recently are from the northern part of the UK. Why’s that? Yeah, Chimpo and Bou are both from Manchester. It’s a big city, but it’s not too big, so if you’re doing music and you’re doing all right, then everyone pretty much knows everyone. I’ve been working with Chimpo for a long time. He’s a friend of mine outside of just music. It’s gotta be coming up to 10 years, we’ve got to know each other from being around the same neighbourhood. I’m from Old Trafford, he’s from Whalley Range, and they’re very close to each other. I met Chimpo just through friends and then we ended up making music and we always have been throughout the years. When I started making drum & bass, I went to a place called Bloc2Bloc regularly. That’s where I ended up meeting a bunch of people, and Bou was one of them. About three or four years later, we ended up in the studio making a song together. And then Sigma, that’s a lot more recent. They were already established artists when they hit me up. They asked me to get in the studio together and that’s how we came out with this single that we’ve got now, ‘Kenny’. What’s the story behind ‘Kenny’? On the way to the session, my friend and I talked about a lot of things. We were reflecting on what it’s taken to get to the point I was at there. Subconsciously, we ended up going with that theme in the song, it just happened. The Sting sample in the song gave me that reminiscing vibe and got me thinking about what it’s taken to get to where we are now. That’s the vibe of the track, reflecting and reminiscing on my life, where I’ve been, and what I’ve been through to get to that point. Right now, it makes it all worth it. Getting some success, you almost feel like you’ve not wasted your time. When you get that gratification you wanted, it’s the best feeling. The scene around you has grown as well… Absolutely, the Manchester scene has grown massively! The last two years have gone from being “this thing that’s happening and we’re getting to a point” to blowing up, in the space of two years the scene has grown massively. Everyone’s fulfilling their potential in a type of way. I feel like it’s getting to the point where it’s paying off for not just me but everyone around me. Shows are bigger in different places. There’s more attention on the songs, the videos are better… I don’t know what happened in the past two years, but it just seems like everything’s got a bit better for our scene. It’s grown fast for everyone in a short space of time. I don’t think there’s a limit. We’re getting a lot more mainstream attention, people are getting taken as serious artists. For me, this opens a lot of doors. I’m just working on singles right now, but there might be an album coming. If I can get a good album and an album tour out of it, that would be a good next step. I try not to overwhelm myself with grand ideas of what can happen, though, I take life in little steps. Why’s that? When I made music before, I’d build up this big plan in my head and have this way of getting there, and if anything went wrong or it didn’t go the way I thought it was going to go… That would crumble the whole thing. Now, I’ll have a little goal and even if it doesn’t go the way I thought it would go, I won’t be as defeated as I used to be. I’ll get there another way. Rather than having this big thing that I’m aiming towards and putting so much pressure on myself, I’ll have smaller goals in between now. What shifted my way of thinking… I think it’s about my passion for what I like doing. I’ve been in places where I’ve tried to stop, and that’s the biggest test if you’re an artist. If you love doing something, you won’t be able to stop even if you want to. It was a challenge, and then that’s what helped me pull through. Never stopping and just believing. I’m going to carry on and keep doing it. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be, and even if it’s not, at least I’m still doing something I love. Back to your latest single ‘Kenny’. People who watch the video will see a few locations in and around Manchester showing up. Do they have any personal significance to you? The first location is my local barbershop! The idea was that I wanted it to seem as my natural environment as possible. All the places I am in the video are places where you could actually find me hanging out. If you were to walk around there for a week, you’d probably bump into me. That’s what I wanted the video to portray. Even the people in the video, they’re all my friends. I know everyone in the video, I wanted to be people I would actually be around. Let me tell you more about the locations in the video. It starts in a barbershop, I visit a chicken shop, I visit a radio station, and I end up in a club. The stepdad of one of my close mates runs the barbershop. I’ve been going there since I’ve been around here, 10+ years, easy. The chicken shop is another place that you will definitely know if you’re from South Manchester. If you talk about Chicken Run, the chicken shop, everyone knows it’s infamous in a way. The club place at the end of the video is a place called Six Trees. I go there all the time, so I thought it would be nice to include it in the video. It’s a family venue, I know the people that run it there. The radio station is Bloc2Bloc, I’ve done some shows on their radio. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to come up in the drum & bass scene as easily as I did, so this is a way of saying thank you. Since the track is called ‘Kenny’, are you a fan of South Park? I love South Park, I watch it sometimes, but I’m not a diehard who knows every episode. I wrote the song and when I came to the end of it I noticed that the ‘Kenny’ line was in the hook. When I was thinking about what to call it, it was fairly obvious to me that that should be the title. You were saying how you know everyone in the ‘Kenny’ video and how you wanted it to feel as authentic as possible. How important is a community to you? Very! The community of people you build around yourself is really important. If you’ve not got a community of people that all look after each other, it’s going to crumble, the whole empire is going to crumble. My community is great. I’ve learned a lot from them. There are times when you might have haters, but I wouldn’t change my community of people for anything else, I wouldn’t be able to see as clearly as I can now. How did I find mine? I got to a point where I’ve been doing music for a while, I’m not new in the scene anymore. I got to a point where people stuck around. People come and people go and you notice that there’s a group of people who stick around. That’s the community that I am talking about, the ones that are there for you, through the ups and the downs. It’s a feeling and an energy that you share. Thank you, that’s very inspiring! What else is coming from you this year? My plans for 2024 include more big singles and more big tunes. I’m going to be on a lot more lineups this year as well. Last year, I took a break from performing, so definitely look out for my name on the lineups. I’ve got big collaborations coming up as well. Things are looking up, for sure!

  10. Italian underground mainstay, Enrico Sangiuliano, is back with another electrifying release on his label NINETOZERO. His latest single, ‘Can U Feel It‘, is the first of two tracks from his upcoming EP and is set to drop on May 10th across all streaming platforms. Following the success of his recent Glitch In Time EP, which showcased his innovative sounds alongside emerging Italian talents, Sangiuliano continues to push the boundaries of Electronic music. Enrico Sangiuliano’s journey in the music industry began at a young age when he first discovered his passion for Electronic music. Growing up in Italy, he was surrounded by the sounds of Techno and House, which inspired him to start producing his own tracks. After honing his craft and gaining recognition in the underground scene, Enrico launched his label NINETOZERO to showcase his music and support emerging artists. With each release, Enrico brings a fresh perspective to the table, combining elements of Classic Techno with modern production techniques to create a sound that is uniquely his own. His dedication to pushing boundaries and experimenting with different styles has earned him a loyal following of fans who eagerly await each new release. ‘Can U Feel It’ is the latest chapter in Enrico Sangiuliano’s musical journey, and it promises to be a standout track that will leave a lasting impression on listeners. With its infectious groove and hypnotic melodies, this single is a testament to Enrico’s talent and creativity as a producer. “‘Can U Feel It’ is the first part of the upcoming Chapter of NINETOZERO”, says Enrico. “This track explores the connection between auditory perception and physical sensations. Instead of going for a traditional dance track with a straight four-to-the-floor kick drum, I wanted to give both kick and bass more room to evolve and resonate, resulting in this more breakbeat type of thing. There’s a lot of movement in the low end, beyond the audible spectrum for the listeners to engage with a sense of vibration. Can U Feel It?“ About NINETOZERO NINETOZERO is a time-limited record label restricted to 10 chapters that aims to disrupt the notion of perpetual music. It will become dormant once it gets to release number 0 having started at 10, and has already put out plenty of vital music with his new single ‘Can U Feel It’ being part of the sixth release. Sangiuliano is an accomplished artist who never stops evolving, asking questions through music and exploring new sonic realms. Whether remixing classics and topping the charts, serving up high-class club tracks or plenty in between, he is a vital voice in the Techno conversation. Last time out he contributed the ‘Glitch In Time’ track to an EP that platformed a wealth of next-generation talent, and this time out he shows off a very different side to his sound. As another page turns in the illustrious saga of Alesso, the Swedish dance music superstar is exploring a new creative frontier that aligns him more closely with the heart of underground dance music. The hit-making producer's new EP, Hypnotize, sees him more boldly embracing the gritty rhythms of house music and the captivating, cinematic moments of melodic techno. A part of Alesso's compelling new moniker Body Hi, the three-track EP represents a significant departure from the vocal-driven progressive house anthems that his fans have come to adore, instead offering a raw and more club-focused sound. Setting the stage for a deeper exploration into the genre, the EP kicks off with "Zig Zag," a single released in March that was well-received for its energizing cadence. Meanwhile, "The Rhythm of the Night," sees Alesso brilliantly incorporating a sample from Corona's iconic 90s hit into a modern dance framework. That track not only showcases his ability to blend different elements of electronic music—techno, progressive house and bass—but also serves as a nostalgic nod that resonates with both new listeners and longtime fans. 17. When three artists who are at the peak of their powers and gaining momentum with each and every release come together you know you are in for something special. And that is exactly what happened when Kai Prado, Renato S, and Fasto came together in the studio to create ‘Making Stacks‘. Linking up as a trio for the first time, there were high expectations for this one but they have certainly been superseded. One third of this collab, Kai Prado, is a Brazilian-born Spanish artist who has been making waves in the scene with his bass and tech house tracks. He blends the rhythmic energy of Brazil with Spain’s musical flair, creating fresh and compelling sounds. In the middle we’ve got Renato S, an Amsterdam native who has seen his music signed on the likes of Spinnin’, Warner, Mixmash, Revealed, and more. His impressive catalog of music has received well over 1 million streams and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Last, and certainly not least is Fasto, a Netherlands-born artist who has also been gaining a reputation for his awesome releases. He has received over 2 million streams and counting, proof as to why he is an artist on the rise. Together, these three artists create magic with the single ‘Making Stacks’. Combining all their respective styles and flavors, the result is this rhythmic piece of dance music that is centered around a pitched down male vocal at a slightly down tempo, with addictive basslines carrying that rhythm in their own right. An infectious single that will have you hitting replay, we hope it’s not too long before these artists come together again. Stream this single below.
  18. “Lazy Sunday,” the latest single from producers Paul Roux and the enigmatic In Anima duo. The record enchants listeners with its unique and expertly crafted blend of propulsive break-beat rhythms and sublime, ethereal melodies. “Lazy Sunday” is a true musical gem that first took shape three years ago. It all started when the mysterious Lyon-based In Anima shared an embryonic demo with their equally talented compatriot Paul Roux. Instantly impressed by the raw potential of the track, Roux applied his own inimitable creative stamp. The result was a fully-formed composition that nevertheless lay dormant for two long years, awaiting the perfect moment for its unveiling. That moment arrived when, by a fortuitous twist of fate, Paul Roux and In Anima found themselves reunited recently – and their shared passion for the “Lazy Sunday” recording was instantly reignited. From its hypnotic 132 bpm tempo to the deep, resonant tones of whale song samples woven throughout, “Lazy Sunday” transports listeners to an immersive realm of transcendent grooves and widescreen ambiance. The dreamy narrative spun by the track’s lush synths and kinetic percussion is the audible manifestation of the profound musical mind-meld between its creators. We found a musical connection that is truly special, and ‘Lazy Sunday’ is a testament to our harmonious partnership – said Roux and In Anima. – This piece has been a long time coming, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to finally share it with the world. 21. Listen to the most flavour-packed tracks we discovered this week. Music makes the world go round. And in that regard, we’re constantly on the lookout for new, exciting tunes to share with our audience. We’ve found some that cause goosebumps, and make you open your eyes and get up from your chair to dance. So put on your best pair of headphones, or turn up your speakers, and enjoy this week’s New Music Friday. Here are our top picks for the best music we came across this week, in no particular order. Panteros666 feat. Zoee – Cyberlink 2XL Genre: Trance Panteros666, a Euro enthusiast with a heart for both Flanders, his birthplace, and the Parisian scene, brings his passion for European culture to life through Dance music. Regularly featured on BBC1 and the Planet Rave playlist, Panteros has built a name for himself not only online but also in real life, outside of the machine if you will (this will make sense shortly). Catchy, vintage-sounding, and fast-paced, Panteros’ latest release just came out today in the form of ‘Cyberlink 2XL‘, an old-school Trance piece of delicate bliss. Soft plucks are put up against a strong beat, then complemented with spacious pads, and a vocal layer guiding you through the track. Break the machine and give this song a listen. KhoMha – Skyline Genre: Progressive House, House Here’s a fun one for you. Do you know KhoMha? I sure do. My first of his tracks was ‘Restart’, a release which got signed by Armada. Turns out the Colombian talent is quite the veteran as of today, having explored a big portion of Trance music. Today, however, we’re happy to welcome his sound in a much calmer state: he’s joined Insomniac’s recently founded Interstellar imprint. ‘Skyline‘ is a lovely, warm Progressive House single, one that cannot be described in another way than “made for highway rides“. It’s got that feel-good vibe, along with engulfing pianos, vocal textures, and quite the summery beat, all without becoming cheesy. The perfect formula for a change in style. Jack Ross – Given Up Genre: Drum & Bass, Future Bass This track is one of those songs you instantly love. There’s something in them that just hooks you and makes you crave more. Producer Jack Ross delivered this infectious tune he likes to call ‘Given Up‘. Existing somewhere between Drum & Bass and Future Bass, you have the best of both worlds poured with caution into a track as lovely as this one. Fast-paced arpeggios, heavenly chords, and a powerful beat, all come together by the side of a melancholic, worried vocal line. It’s the perfect fifty-fifty of melody to danceability, making good use of the harmonic elements to weave quite the song. If you’re entering the DnB world and want something rather delicate, this is your ticket. Zulhou – Won’t Hold Me Back Genre: Progressive House, Trance Oliver and Michael are the proud founders of the duo Zulhou. Hailing from Germany, their aim is to make music that is impactful and inspiring, and their sound can be found in between the four horsemen of style: melodic, Tech, dark and Indie. Today’s track, though? I’d say best embodies the first and last of those colours. ‘Won’t Hold Me Back‘ is a beautiful Progressive House spirited tune, wearing Trance makeup. The raspy main lead, so core to Melodic Techno and similar genres, rocks its melody over a faster four-on-the-floor beat, all while giving a soft male vocal the starring role for a big portion of the arrangement. We truly enjoyed this one! Daniel Kandi, Arman Bas, Akku & Divisional Phrase – Marco Mi Destino Genre: Trance Prepare for liftoff! We have a quadruple collaboration here. Legendary Trance producer Daniel Kandi joins forces with Arman Bas, Akku, and Divisional Phrase for ‘Marco Mi Destino,’ a Euphoric/Tech Trance anthem guaranteed to send you soaring. We’ve got two Danes and two Spaniards in here, so you’d better believe this one is an absolute monster, for all the good reasons. Pulsating synths, driving basslines, and uplifting melodies all unite in this absolute belter of a track, tailored to the highest-energy moments of any given set. We didn’t know we needed this track over here, but now we’re absolutely electrified with it, and it’s likely that will be your case too. Give in. *wink wink* Nicholas Gunn & Harshil Kamdar feat. Jordan Grace – Believe Genre: Uplifting Trance More Trance coming your way, from equally gigantic artists! This time we welcome back the incredibly touching duo of Nicholas Gunn and Harshil Kamdar. They were the first to release a track on Gunn’s sublabel Blue Dot Trance roughly around this time last year, ‘Here I Am’, and they’ve come together once again for yet another acre of musical Heaven. ‘Believe‘ is the latest BDT release, counting with the hopeful voice of Jordan Grace to polish an already shining gem. It is a song that can heal, as much as it can make you stand up and dance. That’s the magic of true Trance, I’d say. So happy to have these guys and their latest tune on our NMF! Yosuf – wasteLAND Genre: Hardstyle, Frenchcore Now that we’re all feeling the love and are united… let’s throw a party, am I right? It’s been a while since we last featured a Hard track, and this one really captivated our ears. Get ready to turn up your tempo dials to, ladies and gentlemen, 200 BPM. With the help of Basscon sensation, Yosuf. ‘wasteLAND‘ is not for the faint of heart, I’m afraid. Absolutely overflowing in energy and lemon faces, this track is built to impact dancefloors far and wide. Expect to see the audience absolutely losing it with the blend of incredible kicks and detuned screeches this tune packs. If you love Sefa’s stuff, don’t hesitate to click the ‘Play’ button below. Extra Terra – Human Techno Capital Machine Genre: Melodic Techno, Electro House Back from last week’s NMF is French maestro Extra Terra. A producer who truly knows his craft rocks a harder Melodic Techno track this week, he calls ‘Human Techno Capital Machine‘. The beat has the energy of a deadmau5 track, while the instruments over it are a work of that Techno subgenre that is so popular these days. And we frankly can’t get enough of this hybrid. It couldn’t have gone better. It reminds us a little of those tracks released ten or twelve years ago, those Electro House bangers. This track is just as fun, but with a much more mature and sober feel to it. Quite the recipe if you ask me. This one is the second track of his fresh album Accelerate or Die, out today. 23. The Scottish singer ALLKNIGHT and the Dutch producer Robby East have worked together again on a great new song called “Follow Me Down.” East’s melodic techno/house music is mixed with ALLKNIGHT’s catchy vocals and lyrics on this track. The tune is out now on Lane 8‘s This Never Happened. The song “Follow Me Down” came together quickly and naturally after East and ALLKNIGHT worked together on the song “Overwater.” ALLKNIGHT was drawn right away to the music East sent over because it made him feel darker and more mysterious. ‘Follow Me Down’ is a track that came together so quickly. Just after we had finished our last song together, ‘Overwater’, Robby sent me the instrumental to Follow Me Down and I loved the darker, more mysterious feel. I am a big fan of Robby’s music and so writing to his tracks is always such a pleasure as the melodies are so fun to write to and are also very inspiring in terms of mood and the direction in which I then write the vocal! The partnership is a great way to show off the skills of both artists. East’s production is catchy and ready for the dance floor. It has rhythmic synth arpeggios and a driving bassline that make for an unstoppable groove. ALLKNIGHT’s bright, catchy vocal melodies glide over the instrumental with ease, and her words draw the listener into the mysterious mood of the song. From the very beginning, “Follow Me Down” has a catchy, upbeat sound that makes it very attractive. This summer, it will be the kind of music that lights up dance halls and festivals. The mix of EDM energy and pop taste is very well done. “Follow Me Down” is a must-listen for anyone who likes catchy techno, house music, or just good dance pop. It sounds like Robby East and ALLKNIGHT work really well together. Hopefully this is the start of more great music from them.
