Sphere Rakes In $170M Revenue Last Quarter — CEO Eyes Second Market ‘Soon’
The Las Vegas Sphere is quickly becoming one of the strips most in demand venues since its launch last year. The lone Sphere venue in Las Vegas, which cost $2.3 billion to build through delays and cost overruns during the COVID-19 pandemic, generated revenue of $170.4 million in its fiscal third quarter ended March 31, the parent company, Sphere Entertainment Co, reported Friday. With hype and demand up, along with strong upward trend in revenue, CEO James Dolan is determined to open another Sphere in a second market. According to billboard, the company is “in discussions with several markets” and has encountered “plenty of interest all around the world,” Dolan said, “but not until we launched the product in September did people really get to see what it was and began to see how it could perform.” Dolan claims that an agreement is set to be inked soon, however declined to provide a timeline. What location would you want to see? And which EDM artists do you think deserves a spot on that stage? [Event Review] Armin van Buuren Takes Over The Brooklyn Mirage
Armin van Buuren gave New York a special show this past weekend. The Dutch legend stopped at the Brooklyn Mirage for a huge 3-hour set for the capacity crowd. He and Laura van Dam had the crowd going all night long till 4 am. Laura van Dam delivered a wonderful opening set and had the crowd ready to burst once Armin took the stage. She played a diverse set with Trance, Techno, and some House sprinkled throughout. It was expertly crafted and you could feel she loved being up there. Laura was engaging with the crowd playing quite a few Afterlife tracks. They always hit well in NYC. Armin van Buuren As the clock struck 1 am, Armin grace the stage with a monumental intro. He took NYC on a journey through his discography. The Armada leader featured all of his classics but also modern reworks of the records. His 2023 remix of ‘This Is What It Feels Like’ is always a special moment. The track was made for a live show and has incredible tension before the massive drop. It feels like 2013 but with a fresh twist. Of course, Armin played all his other bangers from ‘Blah Blah Blah’ to ‘On & On’ to ‘No Fun.’ Armin has been on a crazy release streak the last few years with album after album. His most recent, Breathe In, was his 9th studio album. The album was written over 2 years following the end of the pandemic. It represents the next step in his narrative that started with his 8th album Feel Again. Feel Again represented Armin van Buuren’s journey of reconnecting with himself and the music he loves. Breathe In focuses on his love for his fans. The tracks symbolize and urge listeners to celebrate life, see the light in others, and connect on the dance floor. And you could feel that in Brooklyn. The crowd was lovely and caring, very similar to Armin himself. Armin is currently on tour and you must see him if you can. He will be hitting EDC Las Vegas, Main Square Festival, Airbeat One, Tomorrowland, Creamfields, and so much more. You can stay up to date with The Brooklyn Mirage here. Ibiza Crackdown: Balearic Island Bans Late-Night Booze Sales
Get ready for a shake-up in the party paradise of Ibiza as the Balearic Islands launch a bold move to rein in late-night revelry. With stricter regulations hitting the nightlife scene, the party capital faces a major makeover. Authorities on the archipelago have implemented measures aimed at limiting the availability and public consumption of alcohol during the hours of 9:30 PM to 8 AM. The decision stems from concerns over public safety, noise disturbances, and the preservation of the islands’ cultural heritage. “The most significant modification of the decree is in relation to the consumption of alcohol which will now be prohibited in public thoroughfares in the specific zones affected by this decree,” the Balearic Island Government stated. In Ibiza, the law now prohibits drinking on public streets in the tourist-heavy neighborhood of San Antonio during the restricted hours. The law also says that boat parties can’t come within a mile of the restricted areas, and they can’t pick up or drop off people there either. However, this law does not apply to bars, clubs, and other venues serving alcoholic beverages. Those caught offending or drinking outside of permitted areas are subject to fines of up to around $1600 USD (€1,500). Will this change the way you party in Ibiza? Let us know on our social media channels at Facebook and Instagram. Photo: Sebastian Coman Travel The post Ibiza Crackdown: Balearic Island Bans Late-Night Booze Sales appeared first on EDMTunes.

AI-powered radio airplay monitoring platform Radiostats launches
Developed by Songstats, Radiostats is an AI-powered radio airplay monitoring platform that stands to transform the way artists, labels, and promoters monitor radio plays across the globe. Traditionally it has been very inefficient and costly to monitor a full catalogue across a large number of stations. Existing services cost a lot, charge high fees for tracking individual songs, and provide only narrow coverage. Their legacy tech stacks don’t scale well and require a lot of heavy computing to monitor both a large amount of songs and stations. Radiostats monitors your entire catalogue across 40,000 stations worldwide in a single subscription — providing coverage in a market historically underserved and overpriced. This extensive reach, powered by AI, ensures that no song goes unheard, no matter where it’s played. The platform compiles a real-time Activity Feed to notify you of all major radio plays as soon as they happen. The Audience tab visualises your radio impact across the globe, and in-depth analytics are available for each song, artist and label. Radiostats integrates directly into Songstats, leveraging the leading music analytics app to allow you to access all of your radio insights directly on your mobile device, receive push notifications and share your radio milestones with your fans. Radiostats covers terrestrial and digital radio, as well as Satellite TV and SiriusXM. All data, including station information, play time and duration, is accessible directly via the desktop dashboard and mobile app and can be exported as PDF and CSV reports. These reports can lead to significant earning opportunities when correctly tracked and submitted to Performing Rights Organisations. That’s why it is especially exciting that Radiostats provides estimated royalties for all SiriusXM plays, and offers a special royalty collection service for artists and right owners to claim and receive these potential earnings. The team behind Radiostats worked hard to bring this new platform to market and wants to ensure that radio insights can empower every artist and label at the same convenience and value that they are used to with Songstats. Radiostats mirrors the same pricing structure as Songstats, allowing you to monitor your entire catalogue with a single subscription! Radiostats comes with a 7-day free trial and is available in a bundle that gives you full access to both Songstats & Radiostats at a discounted rate. This cost-effective approach eliminates the need for multiple services, tiered plans or per-song pricing, making it the most affordable solution for comprehensive radio airplay monitoring. Radiostats is now live and ready to make radio airplay monitoring accessible to all. Slipmatt selects 5 classics ahead of Slip Back In Time presents Old Skool Ibiza
Slipmatt’s obsession with electronic music began in the late 80’s and this year marks 35 years since his first rave DJ set at Raindance. Taking place on 16th September 1989 in Beckton, East London, Raindance was originally Slipmatt’s idea and underscored his passion for the nascent rave scene. His brother, Paul Nelson, took note, realised the potential and took a chance on promoting the event. Raindance went on to become the stuff of dance music legend with over 10,000 people raving through the weekend. Slipmatt stepped up to the turntables and took his place among the most influential names in rave beginning a career in dance music that shows no signs of slowing. As one half of SL2, Slipmatt was at the forefront of the rave sound, crossing seminal classics including ‘On A Ragga Tip’ and ‘Way In My Brain’ into the national charts. His evolution as a DJ has taken in hardcore, jungle, house, tech house and more, through to his current rave house sound with a nod to past and future. He continues to release big tunes and remains in high demand as a DJ playing across the board, from a B2B with Eats Everything at Fabric last year to Shangri-La at Glastonbury this summer. His Slip’s House radio show on Centreforce 88.3 is the biggest on the station and consistently tops the Mixcloud tech house and house charts. To celebrate 35 years since that first Raindance set, and as he prepares to head out to Ibiza for his ever-popular, week-long event series, Slip Back In Time presents Old Skool Ibiza, Slipmatt has taken a look back and picked out 5 special tracks for Decoded. He can dig into a truly enviable record collection but certain tracks will always represent a key moment in time and a guaranteed big moment on the dancefloor. Slipmatt explains what makes these selections special to him below. Royal House – ‘Party People’ 1988 The explosion of house in 1986 was a pivotal moment in dance music, and 38 years later we’re still dancing to the same beat. Marshall Jefferson and the Chicago crew led the way for me and house music seemed to become much bigger in the UK than anywhere else in the world. But what really got me hooked was the sound of Todd Terry!! The man behind Royal House, Black Riot, and of course The Todd Terry Project. For me ‘Party People’ is the perfect example of that amazing sound that was blasting out of New York in 1988. Those drums… WOW! And the track even sampled Marshall Jefferson’s ‘Move Your Body’. Todd Terry’s background was hip-hop and that shone through in his early music. Being a huge hip-hop fan at the same time I think that drew me into his unique sound. 1988 doesn’t get much better, and this track along with ‘Can You Party’, ‘A Day In The Life’ and ‘Weekend’ will last forever. Awesome 3 – ‘Don’t Go’ 1992 This has to be one of the most-played rave / dance tracks of 1992, and it’s still going strong. It’s been played so much that I hold back playing it these days and reserve it for very special moments only. My white original label has done quite a few trips around the globe, and rightly so. With a rave crowd in front of the DJ booth, this is a guaranteed hands-in-the-air winner. It has all the best elements of 1992 and it slams home every time. I chatted with Steve from Awesome 3 a few days ago and apparently, they’ve just signed a huge new deal with a new mix of the track to one of the biggest majors – 32 years later… amazing!! Slipmatt – ‘Breaking Free’ 1994 I thought I’d include one of my own tracks, and this is one of my bigger underground tunes. I was very well known for hardcore in the 90s, and then for my integral part in the rise of the happy hardcore sound which took me all over the world, yet again. However, I was still very much involved with the darker sounds and jungle through the mid-90s as well. I did a few jungle shows on Kiss FM back in 1994 and was generally known for playing both hardcore & jungle in the same set, or separately when necessary. ‘Breaking Free’ was sort of looked at as one of the very few tracks at that time that could be played at a purely hardcore event, or a 100% jungle rave, but it certainly isn’t a 4×4 stomper with its time-stretched intro, chopped up Amen and a monster pitch bent bassline. Good friend DJ Sooney has just done a remix for me which I love to bits, so I’m pretty sure it will reappear again in the second half of 2024. Maybe a 30-year anniversary release. Stardust – ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ 1998 This was the big tune of summer 1998 for me. Yes, there was a lot of great music around, but this track stood out by miles. I was back & forth from Ibiza a fair bit, and also DJing in other parts of the Med. This tune was everywhere, and it was a fresh vibe! Every DJ was playing it in every bar, club and wherever there was a sound system. There’s often a big tune that wins the summer, especially in Ibiza. In 2006 it was the D Ramirez mix of Bodyrox with ‘Yeah Yeah’. But Stardust was the really big one that I resonate with the most. Eric Prydz – ‘Pjanoo’ 2008 This is the tune of all tunes in the world of noughties classics. Such an amazing production and a total musical triumph. I’m sure it will stand the test of time for many more decades to come. It lifts you up and then it keeps lifting and keeps on lifting until the ultimate drop. Hard to believe it’s 16 years old, but it still gets pulled out on a regular. There’s been an amazing bootleg by Lizzie Curious doing the rounds for quite a while now which I’ve played everywhere. It mashes with the Olive vocal, You’re Not Alone acapella. I think it’s been done before, but Lizzie’s version is simply phenomenal – check it out here https://youtu.be/L0PgmVKxB3k?si=3Ruzws7v1KUc1bby Slip Back In Time presents Old Skool Ibiza 2024 takes place in Ibiza from 15th – 22nd May. www.slipbackintime.com The post Slipmatt selects 5 classics ahead of Slip Back In Time presents Old Skool Ibiza appeared first on Decoded Magazine.

Culture Shock Drops Infectious Drum And Bass Gem ‘Out My Head’
As Drum and Bass continues to gain mainstream popularity in the US, one established producer is helping lead the charge. UK-based Culture Shock has been bringing his fresh sound to audiences worldwide for nearly twenty years and recently made waves touring as one-fourth of the DnB supergroup WORSHIP, with pals Sub Focus, Dimension, and 1991. In 2024, he has already released two original tracks (‘Get To Me’ and ‘Breathe’), along with a DnB flip of Artemas’ ‘i like the way you kiss me’. So it should come as no surprise that his new release ‘Out My Head’ (ft. Sarah de Warren) is another sing-a-long crowd pleaser. Released May 8, ‘Out My Head’ came together naturally, Sarah de Warren told our team. Introduced by a mutual friend, she and Culture Shock cranked out the tune in a single studio session. The result is a melodic dance floor zinger with an atmospheric bass line. While more mainstream than his previous underground sound, Culture Shock’s technical skills both in production and behind the decks are second to none. Sarah’s background in Trance and Techno lends well to the vocals found in this particular brand of Drum and Bass, which is both melancholic and uplifting at the same time. This song is sure to be part of WORSHIP’s EDC set this week and is one that you won’t get out of your head any time soon. Listen to Culture Shock – ‘Out My Head’ (ft. Sarah de Warren) below. Human Rias, a DJ, producer, and label owner, Iran-born and now based in Munich has been making waves with his hypnotic and emotional brand of melodic techno. In his sets and albums, he mixes influences from many cultures with a focus on dancing. But Rias has gained a lot of respect for how hard he works to use his art to bring attention to important social and humanitarian issues. From his strong remix of the popular Iranian protest song “Baraye” to his new job as an A&R for the prestigious Exit Festival label, this artist is leaving a lasting mark. What does Human Rias want to do with his art? He talks about the start of his new 7Rituals label, working behind the scenes at Exit, and a lot more. For those who may not be familiar, can you start by telling us a bit about your background and how you first got involved with electronic music production and DJing? I’ve been involved in music from my early childhood. I was in several bands, I learned to play guitar and drums, as well as the violin for over 14 years. Music was always my great escape, and at the young age of 16 I was fascinated by DJing and electronic music, so I started pursuing it, working in every field of this industry to make the transition to a full-time artist today Your Persian heritage seems to play a big influence on your sound – can you explain how those cultural elements get woven into your productions? I would say Persians have a very special rhythm and that definitely finds its way into my sets and productions. As well as my big support for a lot of Persian producers. You’ve launched your own 7Rituals label – what is the overarching vision and sound you want to curate with the imprint? Music that makes you feel something more than what you hear, has always been my key message on my journey through music. The vision is to unite incredible upcoming artists with already existing ones, and pushing the boundaries of the melodic techno realm. The ‘Baraye’ remix package had a powerful message behind it. How do you balance using your music for social commentary while still making it work on the dancefloor? The ‘Baraye’ package is something very important to us, doing our best to spread the message of the people who are still to this day suffering. The idea was to bring It to the dancefloor, to bring it to the techno world, that has rebellion and freedom incorporated into it. Music has to transfer a feeling, and here I transferred the message of suffering and the wish for our normality. You’ve played iconic festivals like Exit and Sea Dance – which of those big stage moments really stood out as most memorable for you? I’ve said this in many interviews before and will continue to, EXIT is definitely the greatest of them all. And not any particular EXIT but every single one I was able to be part of. What was it like playing the massive Core Stage at Tomorrowland 2023? How did you approach that huge platform? The CORE stage was something incredible, the energy in that forest at Tomorrowland and that beauty of a stage made me dig deeper into my music and yet still give people some key tracks they will know, all in all one of my favourite sets that I played. As an A&R for Exit Festival’s label, what qualities do you look for when signing new artists and music? Outstanding artists who fit the ethos of EXIT and who can be part of the big family that EXIT is. I definitely don’t make that decision on my own. Beyond just the music itself, what role does an artist’s branding, marketing, and overall career strategy play into your signing decisions, if any? First and foremost it’s always the music, and then what the artist represents. It’s a very natural process. As the A&R for Exit Festival’s label imprint, what is your typical process like when evaluating new demos or unsigned artists to potentially sign? I listen to a few tracks a day, as not to overload my ears and to give every track a fair trial. I then pass the fitting ones to the team, with my notes and an intro of the artist. Can you talk about any specific Iranian artists or collaborators you’re hoping to work with via 7Rituals? I am working with one amazingly talented artist called X Ashes, and there will be more from us in the future as well. What has been the most difficult or unexpected challenge you’ve faced in your career so far? The hardest challenge I believe was the understanding that things don’t happen tomorrow, and sometimes it feels like you aren’t in motion, but when you look back and evaluate you will see the journey you have taken. When you’re writing new music, do you have a general concept or narrative you’re trying to convey through the tracks? There is an idea, a spark, or an emotion that it’s based on. I usually look for a vocal or melody and start from there. What’s your opinion on the intersection of techno and melodic house that seems to be happening lately? I think that there is a huge intersection between all techno genres right now. There is no hard split anymore but an ever-merging market. Which is good, as it allows new audiences to discover more music. If you could go back and give advice to your younger self just starting out, what would it be? Learn to be patient earlier, don’t take on too much at once, and focus on the important bits. Take care of your health and make decisions with care. Are there any particular up-and-coming scenes or cities you have your eye on as potential hotbeds for new talent? Argentina and Brazil are definitely at the top. How do you keep your sound fresh and avoid getting stuck in a particular style as you continue releasing music? Next to Djing I spend a lot of time listening to music, and listening particularly to sets of other artists, to get inspired by the direction they are taking and to see where trends are going. What’s on the horizon for Human Rias in terms of touring, releases, or other projects we should watch out for? There is a lot of new music coming this year and a few very beautiful festivals I am looking forward to. There is a remix of Aname’s ‘Beautiful World’ coming out on Anjuna Beats with my brother FREY, a collaboration with X Ashes on Off World, and a collab with Like Mike later in the year. Besides production, what other creative outlets do you have or hope to explore more? I love to cook, cooking is another practical outlet for me, it puts me in a zen state. How has the role of social media impacted an artist’s career path compared to when you were first starting out? Social media has just become a necessary tool that I have to use. I don’t like it, and I’d prefer to be without it, yet it’s also what allows us all to connect No matter if he’s playing in an arena at Tomorrowland or a club in Berlin, Human Rias always brings a lot of energy and purpose to his shows. His energizing and contemplative sounds can take a crowd to new emotional heights. As he hints, the next few years will bring even more experimental music and well-known projects. He will continue to work at the point where melodic techno meets culturally relevant stories, with 7Rituals as a key stage. The post Let’s Talk About Human Rias appeared first on The Groove Cartel.
