Released 11 Years Ago: Steve Aoki, Chris Lake & Tujamo – Boneless
2013 was a huge year for Steve Aoki as he would release a massive hit with Linkin Park, collaborate with R3hab, and release one of his greatest songs ever, ‘Boneless.’ Named after a skateboarding trick and simply aimed to be a fun club song, this song would go well beyond the expectations of the artists behind it and became one of biggest electronic tracks of the year. Aoki collaborated with Chris Lake and Tujamo who were both building a name for themselves in the early 2010s and ‘Boneless’ helped massively in giving them their breakthrough. Even before it was released, people were loving the track as it had been leaked early on in 2013. Aoki recalls that when he started playing the song live people were already singing along with the melody because they had been listening to the leaked song for months already. Once ‘Boneless’ was officially released the hype was realised as it quickly became a huge club banger that everybody knew and would hit the charts in Germany, Austria, and Belgium. A year after its release the track would receive vocals from Kid Ink to create ‘Delirious (Boneless)’ which sparked even more success for the song. The melody is one that is unforgettable with people still chanting along to it 11 years on from its release and crowds still bouncing every time they hear it. A song like ‘Boneless’ perfectly encapsulates the beauty of EDM as it’s able to unite people from all over the world in singing along with the universal language of an awesome melody.

[Event Review] Paul van Dyk Fuses The Best Of Trance With The Power Of Techno Through VENTURE X
We caught up with the legend himself during one of his more recent shows in South America. Paul van Dyk needs no introduction. Widely considered one of the pioneers of Electronic Dance music, it’s been 30 years since he released ‘For An Angel’, a record that would change Dance music forever and would set the bar for the tone of Trance tunes for years. A legendary figure, we were lucky enough to have a night under the spell of his hypnotising live sets, as he brought his groundbreaking VENTURE X show to Santiago, Chile. VENTURE X A fairly new “venture” of his, VENTURE X debuted last year, and it represents total freedom for the German pioneer. It is a concept literally marketed as simply playing what Paul thinks sounds best, and with a distinct flavour of Progressive, Trance and Techno. This way, he promises to bring attendees to a voyage with a clear departure harbour, yet an unknown destination. With the vibes already through the roof, fans eagerly awaited the master’s arrival at the booth, and when he finally did at 1:30, he made sure to do so in style. Teasing iconic melodies every now and then and carefully weaving them with Peak-Time Techno beats from fellow teammates — and himself —, Paul’s two-hour-thirty set was, quite literally, a venture, and we were a part of it. As the main act, van Dyk delivered a performance that exceeded expectations. The crowd was captivated by his seamless blend of classic tracks and new releases. Highlights included his timeless ‘For An Angel‘, his remix of the iconic ‘Café Del Mar‘, and his latest single, ‘Love Is Enough‘. To my delightful surprise, although we were at a VENTURE X show, he spun the SHINE Mix, a heavily Trance-focused record which I suspected would make me tear up when I reviewed it some weeks ago. And indeed did I shed a tear at the club. Of course that moment in which he faded in ‘Love Is Enough’ is a core memory I cherish from the night, but another really wonderful moment I got to witness was: there was a lady upfront with a message printed on paper, it went along the lines of “I’m Paola, thank you and thank God for your music, you’d make my night if you played Café Del Mar’“. I’m not kidding, she held that sign up for an entire hour and thirty before Paul actually played the track. And the four minutes that succeeded live in my head rent-free. Just HOW HAPPY she was, she screamed and jumped all throughout the record, she thanked him, and she cried a bit too. That’s the power of music for you all. I recorded a wee bit of it, and enjoyed the rest. So if you want to witness a bit… Beyond his incredible music, van Dyk’s down-to-earth personality shone through. He took the time to interact with fans, posing for pictures and smiling throughout his two-and-a-half-hour set. His genuine enthusiasm and appreciation for his audience created a truly unforgettable experience. He’s grateful for them too, as you’ll read in our interview with him, coming soon. (Oops, did I spoil something?) Well yes, we did sit down with Paul van Dyk himself and chatted about a handful of things. So I guess, now that I’ve mentioned it, a final core memory I’ll carry with me forever is having got to meet him. He, who introduced me to Trance back when I was playing Need For Speed Underground 2 as a six-year-old and his ‘Nothing But You’ was a part of the soundtrack, was right there, in front of me, and not anywhere else in the world. We did talk about a bunch of stuff. That’s coming soon folks. Overall, Paul van Dyk’s VENTURE X concert in Santiago was a night to remember. His masterful performance, coupled with his approachable demeanour, made for a truly special event. And I believe, at least for me, what went down that night can be summarised with: The post [Event Review] Paul van Dyk Fuses The Best Of Trance With The Power Of Techno Through VENTURE X appeared first on EDMTunes.

1991 Pays Tribute to Sounds of the Millennium with ‘Jungle’
At the turn of the century, dance music had a distinct sound that fused warehouse techno with sweeping trance riffs, creating an atmosphere that now conjures memories of glowsticks, green lasers, and parachute pants. Many artists today try to recapture that magic, but few succeed—until now. The UK’s 1991 has managed to blend the essence of the late ’90s and early 2000s with modern drum and bass in his nostalgic dancefloor anthem ‘Jungle’ featuring Alex Hosking. Released on the Chaos/Polydor imprint, ‘Jungle’ has been a festival favorite this summer, thanks to its high energy and seamless crossover appeal. Alex Hosking’s vocals are pitch-perfect for big rooms, with lyrics that stick in your head like white on rice. A breakout artist in recent years, 1991 continues his streak of hits following ‘Cyclone,’ ‘Worlds Apart,’ and ‘Horizon.’ Just last week, he hosted an intimate pop-up party on a packed boat in London to celebrate the new single, with Alex Hosking performing alongside. “‘Jungle’ has been a crucial part of my sets this year,” says 1991. “It started with an amazing vocal hook sent to me by my friend Alex Hosking, which I instantly knew would be perfect for an instrumental I was already working on. I was feeling inspired by the euphoria of trance from around the turn of the millennium and that formed the overall theme for the track.” There must be an unwritten rule that all drum and bass artists must reference the word “jungle” in one of their tracks in order to cement their place in the genre. Over the years, dozens of DNB producers have used “jungle” in their songs as a tribute to a cultural movement that represents a significant chapter in UK dance music history. Jungle music is the precursor to drum and bass and combines elements of reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop with breakbeat rhythms, fast tempos, and heavy basslines. While drum and bass and jungle are distinct genres today, they still share many elements. With his ‘Jungle,’ 1991 not only honors the roots of drum and bass but also pushes its evolution forward, proving that the spirit of the genre and the community that nurtured it is as vibrant as ever. Simone Biles Shocked By $26,000 Champagne Price At Paris Nightclub
U.S. gymnastics champion Simone Biles recently shared an incident where a Paris nightclub attempted to charge her $26,000 for a bottle of champagne. This occurred after the closing ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Biles celebrated her success with her sister at a nightclub. In a TikTok video, Biles expressed her disbelief at the exorbitant price, stating, “Like, are you insane?“. She did not purchase the champagne and did not disclose the name of the club, although she had been seen at L’Arc nightclub in Paris during that time. Biles, who won three gold medals and one silver at the Olympics, discussed her experience while applying makeup in the video, highlighting her preference for a more ordinary life away from the spotlight. The incident has triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with many expressing shock at the price. While those familiar with the nightlife scene are used to the steep markups for VIP tables and bottle service, even they acknowledge that $26,000 is an exceptionally high price, even for the most affluent crowd during the Olympics. VIP Table Prices at Luxury Events At upscale nightclubs like LIV in Miami, table service packages start at a minimum of $1,000 and can go up to $10,000 for prime locations. The cost of champagne itself ranges from approximately $150 for a standard bottle of Veuve Clicquot to around $495 for Dom Perignon. More exclusive options, such as Cristal or larger formats, can cost even more, with some magnums priced at over $1,000. At EDC Las Vegas, VIP bottle service prices can vary greatly depending on the location and size of the table. The minimum spend for bottle service ranges from $5,000 for the cheapest table to as much as $150,000 for the best possible table and doesn’t include taxes, tips, and service fees. The most expensive bottle of champagne ever sold in a nightclub was a six-liter magnum of Dom Pérignon Champagne Brut Luminous Phantom, which was sold for 50,000 euros at the Momento nightclub and restaurant in Marbella, Spain. This limited edition bottle is considered one of the most prized jewels in the venue’s cellar, with very few units produced worldwide. Burning Man Tries Announcing Music Lineups Early
It’s been a rather tricky year for Burning Man. It recently reported that it failed to sell out for the first time in over a decade as ticker holders took major losses to unload the unwanted passes. In an effort to boost numbers, organizers opened up last-minute ticket sales to the general public, which doesn’t require pre-registration. Ahead of the event in the Black Rock Desert, there have been a few rule changes regarding its future events, all in an effort to salvage attendance. Burning Man sent an email to all the leaders of the festival’s music camps and owners of the iconic ‘mutant vehicles‘ about a policy change on August 10th. In prior years, guidelines stated that the lineups for the various stages were announced just a week before the first day of performances. That’s because the music lineup is a perk for people going, not THE reason to go. The ethos of Burning Man is to attract people who share the ethos and the vibe of the event, not just people who want to see certain DJs. This year, however, the organizers have allowed the lineups to be revealed two weeks before the festival starts on August 25th. “We’re trying this out this year in the spirit of greater transparency and providing the community earlier information” Email sent by Burning Man organisers Announcing the lineups much earlier allows the possibility for fans to come to Burning Man for the artists. This detracts from the journey of self-expression and community the event has come to offer. Artists like Carl Cox and Rufus Du Sol are among those who will be performing at this year’s event and are equally names that would look at home on the mainstage of any major festival. It will be very interesting to see if this new policy will be popular with fans and how it might affect ticket sales and the makeup of attendees. It’s still unclear why tickets aren’t sold out as they usually are. Last year’s running was marred by extreme weather, which may be a cause for a decline in interest. Tickets are still available for this year’s Burning Man, which you can purchase here. The post Burning Man Tries Announcing Music Lineups Early appeared first on EDMTunes.

Solarstone Unveiled As The First Of The Six DJs Mixing The Landmark 20th Edition Of ‘In Search Of Sunrise’
September 2024 sees the release of the six-disc/six-DJ ‘In Search Of Sunrise 20’. At the rate of one a week, Black Hole Recordings will be unveiling the DJs chosen for this task. The first is Solarstone – an artist for whom the first natural question might be ‘how is this only happening now ?!!!’ As sure a fit for ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ as anyone, and an artist/producer for whom the term ‘Balearic Trance’ might very well have been coined, we dig into Solarstone’s mix with Richard Mowatt below … What was the first ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ album you heard or bought, Rich? “That was Vol.3 – the one with Solarstone ‘Solarcoaster’ on it. I remember buying the CD! It’s funny how music can be autobiographical in that way.” It truly is! Now, looking back across their tracklists, what would you say is your all-time favourite track that’s been compiled onto an ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ album?“Without a doubt that would Andain ‘Summer Calling’ (Josh Gabriel Mix) – it precedes ‘Solarcoaster’ on Vol. 3. I love that track so much. I’ve toyed with the idea of remixing it, but I know that whatever I did could not touch the perfection of Josh’s version, so the exercise would be kind of pointless!” The music of ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ is perhaps renowned for having less of a ‘sound’ and more a ‘feel’. How would you encapsulate that feel in three words? “I think it is both a ‘feel’ an also a ‘sound’. So for me that’d be: ‘Balearic progressive trance’.” Fair enough! Is there a track on your mix that summarises that best? “It’s the whole thing. That’s the whole point of it, at least that’s how I feel. Setting a mood and letting it flow. Having said that, the Foxhill track captures the sunrise beautifully. Even the title ‘When the Morning Comes’ is perfect. I think Sam Foxhill is a really gifted producer.” ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ mixes are all about flow. How did you approach yours? “I knew how I wanted this to sound from day one. Keeping the Balearic vibe throughout, progressive sounds, a gentle & natural slow build. I told the artists what the tracks were for, and they produced tracks perfectly for it. Anyone who knows the early ISOS albums understands my intention with this mix. But the flow takes some crafting, you need to step back from the mechanics of the mix from time to time – listen to the whole thing in the car, for example. When I listened to the first bounce of the mix, there was one track that had been signed & edited specifically for this album but then really stood out as not fitting. It was too ‘uplifting’ and knocked the flow off-course. This is something that usually happens with a compilation, and it can be very frustrating for the artist who made the track! I was dreading telling them that I had to remove it. The Solarcoaster remix by Aquarius then materialised in a very serendipitous way on the day I realised that I needed one more track. Polish 18-year-old producer Aquarius (who has released several times on my labels) sent me a demo of his Solarcoaster remix out of the blue – and it fitted perfectly in the space left by the other track, even in terms of BPM and key. That sounds like a huge coincidence, but it has actually happened several times before! By the way, there was a happy ending with the cut track – I offered it to a DJ mixing one of the other discs, and they loved it and included it. I was very relieved!” Are there any exclusives, premieres, or purpose-built tracks on the Solarstone mix? “Yes – all of them! I love my compilations to consist of brand-new music. Primarily this album needed to be new music from interesting artists designed for an ISOS album. I don’t think a mix like this should be an exercise in self-promotion, but people do expect a few of my own tracks to be on there, either new tracks or remixes from my back catalogue. They have to fit naturally though, not be shoe-horned in. On this one they are the Solarcoaster remix, the William Byrne remix of ‘When I Dream’ (William made the remix about a year earlier and I was saving it for a special occasion) & ‘Release’ which closes my mix. It’s one from 2003 that I always felt would have worked perfectly on an ISOS compilation, so I dug out the original stems and made a slightly different version for this project. Sean Tyas & Enigma state kindly made an alternative version of their brilliant track ‘Lately’ for this album – the fabulous ‘Azure Mix’. The very first track written specifically for the album was the wonderful ‘Majesty’ by Singapore’s Effen, the feel of that track was always going to be the ‘peak’ of the mix – just before the ramp down towards the end.” Nice! Now was there one ISOS-oriented artist that you were particularly keen to have on your disc? “Absolutely – that would be Orkidea! He has mixed a previous edition of ISOS & his music often has a Balearic vibe. ‘Dance Of Life’ is vintage Orkidea, a really brilliant track.” You yourself are the owner of a compilation series that has reached ten outings. What’s the secret to longevity when creating a series? “I suppose it is having faith in a concept and being consistent – releasing at the same time each year. Annoyingly we missed a year with the Pure Trance series, due to the pandemic. This year, when Arny from Black Hole asked me to compile a disc for this special edition, I knew that because of the amount of work involved (& other ongoing projects) it would be impossible for me to also mix a new Pure Trance compilation, so I chose to do In Search of Sunrise. Pure Trance Vol. 11 will happen in 2025 instead.” A noble sacrifice! So, tackling the elephant in the room, musically, Solarstone would seem like the most natural of fits for ‘In Search Of Sunrise’. Is ‘Pure Trance’ what’s kept you away from ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ for so long !? “It is!! I’ve discussed it several times with Arny, but for the last few years it was because I couldn’t commit to doing an ISOS alongside a Pure Trance album as well. I’m really pleased that it has finally happened.” What’s the best Sunrise you’ve ever found !? “Paula, my wife and I were in Costa Rica recently and we saw some good ones there from a little cabin high up in the jungle. Not that we stayed up all night to see them – we were woken each morning by the sun streaming through the window. Generally, having two kids, I prefer not to be woken up in the morning, thanks very much.” The post Solarstone Unveiled As The First Of The Six DJs Mixing The Landmark 20th Edition Of ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ appeared first on EDMTunes.

Sonos Strikes Out Again: Old App Never Coming Back
American audio equipment and software manufacturer, Sonos has been embroiled in a consumer revolt since it released a new app May 7th. This new app had been hyped in the press and was going to make product setup easier and greatly improve the user experience. However, when the app was actually released, it was, and somewhat remains, a disaster. Since the new app was released, CEO Patrick Spence has issued a formal apology and announced in August that the company would be delaying the launch of two products “until our app experience meets the level of quality that we, our customers, and our partners expect from Sonos”. But one thing is for sure: if you want the old Sonos app back, it’s not coming. In a Reddit AMA response posted Tuesday, Sonos CEO Spence says that he was hopeful “until very recently” that the company could rerelease the app — But after extensive testing, rereleasing the old app would allegedly make things worse. “The trick of course is that Sonos is not just the mobile app, but software that runs on your speakers and in the cloud too. In the months since the new mobile app launched we’ve been updating the software that runs on our speakers and in the cloud to the point where today S2 is less reliable & less stable than what you remember“, he said. “After doing extensive testing we’ve reluctantly concluded that re-releasing S2 would make the problems worse, not better. I’m sure this is disappointing. It was disappointing to me.” — Patrick Spence via Reddit Although the old app is dead in the water, Spence assured folks that fixing the current app “remains my #1 priority“. Diplo’s $100M Jamaica Mansion Becomes Retreat for Creative VIPs
2 months ago we covered Diplo’s amazing new home in Jamaica. He built a tropical oasis in the middle of the jungle. The home has inspired so many of his records and projects. Now, he is ready to share the inspiration of the home for everyone to enjoy. He originally made the home for his 18 children to get away. He attributes Jamaica for giving him so much inspiration for dancehall and beyond. He has rescued horses and planted sweet potatoes, strawberries, kale, and pineapples around the grounds. Diplo undertook the ambitious project by first buying 50 acres of land. He then assembled an inspired team of artists to help bring his vision to life over the next 10 years. The years of work have resulted in an indoor-outdoor concrete villa clinging to the lush hillside. Bridges, trellises, and breezeways connect the space, allowing the jungle to weave into the home as if one. He wants the home to be a retreat for all creatives from music to art. It will serve as a haven, epicenter, and sanctuary for creativity. Solar panels power the home as well. Pompey is open for bookings here.
