Inside EXIT Festival 2024, a Melodic Journey Through Genres and Generations
From its humble beginnings as a student protest against the Milosevic regime in 2000, Serbia's EXIT has grown into one of Europe's most beloved festivals. Its organizers once again transformed the historic Petrovaradin Fortress into a vibrant gathering of music lovers from over 80 countries in 2024. This year's festival was a testament to music's power to unite across genres and generations. With over 210,000 attendees, EXIT brought together an eclectic mix of electronic, rock, hip-hop and more, all set against the atmospheric backdrop of the fortress. Day 1: High-Energy BeginningsThe festival kicked off with a blend of hip-hop and electronic music. Gucci Mane's dynamic performance on the Main Stage set the tone for the night, his Southern trap beats energizing the crowd. Then came electronic music legend Carl Cox, who took over the decks and delivered a masterful "Hybrid Live" set that showcased his influential techno. His performance, filled with deep basslines and hypnotic rhythms, reminded everyone why he remains a lynchpin of the dance music community. Day 2: Nostalgia Meets Punk and Deep Electronic BeatsThe second day brought a mix of nostalgia and raw punk energy. The Black Eyed Peas headlined with a set filled with global hits like "Where Is the Love?" and "I Gotta Feeling," creating a massive singalong atmosphere. Meanwhile, punk veterans The Exploited brought their unfiltered energy to the stage, igniting a different kind of fever pitch among the crowd. On the electronic front, the mts Dance Arena hosted Maceo Plex, whose deep, emotive techno set captivated. Known for his ability to craft an atmospheric journey, Plex's performance was filled with dark, melodic undertones, tense build-ups and cathartic releases. The arena's palpable energy continued late into the night, demonstrating EXIT's commitment to showcasing diverse electronic sounds. Day 3: Guitars, Emotional Highs and Dancefloor EuphoriaThe penultimate day was marked by powerful guitar riffs and emotional moments. Tom Morello, guitarist of Rage Against the Machine, delivered a standout performance that began with a tribute to the late great Chris Cornell and transitioned into a frenzied rendition of "Killing in the Name." His set embodied the spirit of activism and rebellion that defines EXIT. Meanwhile, electronic music enthusiasts gathered at the Dance Arena for a different kind of intensity. Barry Can’t Swim offered a blend of euphoric melodies and intricate rhythms, setting the stage for Bonobo, whose multi-layered soundscapes took us on a mesmerizing journey through ambient, house and downtempo. Over at the NSNS Stage, EDM.com Class of 2024 star Sara Landry delivered one of the festival's best techno sets, her hard-hitting beats and dark soundscapes maintaining high energy into the early hours. Her performance showcased the underground strength of the festival's electronic lineup, drawing a dedicated crowd of techno enthusiasts who reveled in her unrelenting beats ahead of her long-awaited debut album. Day 4: A Soulful Conclusion to an Electrifying JourneyEXIT's final day was a celebration of electronic music’s diversity. South African dance music icon Black Coffee closed the festival with a sunrise set at the mts Dance Arena, his deep, soulful beats providing a serene yet electrifying end to the event. His ability to blend Afro-house rhythms with deep, resonant basslines curated an almost spiritual experience as the first rays of sunlight pierced the Petrovaradin Fortress. Unique Collaborations and Family TiesA highlight of the festival was the collaboration between electronic heavyweights Vintage Culture and Argy, whose set showcased the seamless blending of their distinctive styles. Additionally, the theme of family and legacy was present throughout the fest. Tom Morello performed with his son, Roman, while Max Cavalera and his son Igor Junior brought the force of heavy metal to the fortress, showcasing music’s power to connect across generations. Looking Ahead to 2025As the festival concluded, excitement already began building for EXIT's 25th anniversary in 2025. This year's event was more than just a series of performances; it was a celebration of music's ability to bridge cultural divides, bring people together and create unforgettable moments. EXIT 2025 is scheduled for July 10-13. You can find out more information here.

How to Get Festival Tickets Early: Proven Strategies to Secure Your Spot
Festival season is one of the most anticipated times of the year for music lovers and partygoers, but the excitement of attending a festival can quickly turn to disappointment if you’re unable to get tickets. Whether you’re trying to attend Glastonbury, Coachella, or Tomorrowland, festival tickets sell out quickly – often within minutes. To secure your spot, you need a strategy. This article will guide you through how to get festival tickets early, ensuring you never miss out on your favorite events again. From signing up for presales to leveraging fan club memberships and knowing the right timing, these tips will help you get ahead in the ticket-buying race. Why Festival Tickets Sell Out So Fast Festival Tickets In recent years, the demand for festival tickets has skyrocketed, with many events selling out in record time. Festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella attract massive crowds, and with only a limited number of tickets available, the competition is fierce. There are a few reasons why festival tickets are so hard to come by: High Demand: Major festivals attract international crowds and music lovers from all over the world. With limited ticket numbers, demand outstrips supply almost immediately. Scalpers and Bots: Unfortunately, automated bots and scalpers often buy up large amounts of tickets to resell them at inflated prices, making it harder for genuine fans to secure tickets. Presales and Reserved Tickets: Many festivals offer presale tickets to members of fan clubs, credit card holders, or specific groups, leaving fewer tickets available for the general public sale. With these challenges in mind, knowing how to get festival tickets early can be a game-changer. Let’s look at some strategies to improve your chances of snagging those coveted tickets. Sign Up for Presale Access One of the most effective ways to get festival tickets early is to take advantage of presales. Festivals often offer presales before the general ticket release, giving fans the chance to secure tickets in advance. However, access to presales is typically limited, so you’ll need to act fast. Here’s how you can qualify for presale access: Join the Festival’s Mailing List: Many festivals provide presale codes or links to their newsletter subscribers. Sign up for the mailing list of the festivals you’re interested in to receive updates and presale information. Fan Club Memberships: Some festivals offer early ticket access to members of artist fan clubs. If your favorite headliner has a fan club, it might be worth joining to get early access. Follow Festival Social Media Channels: Festivals often announce presales and release codes via their social media platforms. Keep an eye on official festival accounts for exclusive announcements. Credit Card Presales: Certain credit card companies, such as American Express, offer presale opportunities for cardholders. Check with your credit card provider to see if they partner with any festivals you’re interested in attending. Presale access often opens before the general public sale, so take advantage of these opportunities to get ahead of the crowd. Set Up Ticket Alerts One of the most frustrating aspects of trying to get festival tickets is not knowing exactly when they go on sale. Tickets can drop suddenly, and if you miss the announcement, it could cost you your chance to attend. To avoid this, set up ticket alerts through trusted platforms and festival websites. Here’s how: Ticketmaster Alerts: Sign up for notifications through Ticketmaster or other ticketing platforms like See Tickets or Eventbrite. They’ll send you reminders when tickets go on sale, helping you stay in the loop. Google Alerts: Set up Google Alerts for keywords like “Glastonbury tickets on sale” or “Coachella presale” to receive email notifications when new articles or pages are published on the topic. Mobile Notifications: Many ticketing apps offer push notifications. Download the apps for popular ticket sellers and festivals, and enable notifications to ensure you don’t miss a release. By staying informed, you can prepare to purchase tickets the moment they become available. Create an Account in Advance Before tickets go on sale, make sure you’re prepared. Creating an account on the ticketing platform ahead of time can save you precious minutes during the buying process, which can make all the difference. Here’s what you should do: Create or Update Your Account: Make sure you have an account set up on the website where tickets are being sold. Log in before the sale starts to save time. Save Payment Information: Add your payment information to your account ahead of time to avoid fumbling for your credit card during checkout. Double-Check Your Shipping Address: If physical tickets are being mailed, ensure your address is up to date. By streamlining the process, you’ll be able to purchase tickets as quickly as possible, reducing the risk of them selling out before you complete the transaction. Read also: Best Festival Outfits 2024: Top Fashion Trends to Stand Out in Style Use Multiple Devices When tickets are in high demand, time is of the essence. To increase your chances of getting festival tickets early, consider using multiple devices to access the ticketing website. This can help you get into the queue faster and provide backup options in case one device crashes. Here’s how to make the most of this strategy: Use Different Browsers and Devices: Open the ticketing website on multiple devices, such as your laptop, phone, and tablet. You can also use different browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari) to increase your chances of getting through. Connect to a Stable Internet Connection: A fast and reliable internet connection is essential. Avoid using public Wi-Fi, as it can slow down your purchase process. Instead, use a high-speed home or office network. Just be careful not to overload the system by refreshing too frequently or opening too many tabs on the same device, as this can cause you to be temporarily blocked from the website. Know the Ticket Release Time Knowing the exact time tickets will be released is crucial. Many festival tickets go on sale at specific times, such as 10 AM local time, so make sure you’re ready to go when the clock strikes. Here are a few tips to ensure you’re on time: Time Zone Awareness: Be mindful of the time zone the festival is based in. If you’re purchasing tickets for an international festival, convert the sale time to your local time zone so you don’t miss out. Set Multiple Alarms: Set alarms 15 minutes before the tickets go on sale to give yourself time to log in and get ready. Set another alarm right at the sale time so you don’t get distracted. Log In Early: Some ticketing websites may place you in a waiting room before tickets go live. Log in 10-15 minutes early to ensure you’re in the virtual queue as soon as tickets become available. The more prepared you are, the better your chances of getting tickets at the exact release time. Master the Queue System Many major festivals use a queue system to manage the overwhelming demand for tickets. Understanding how the queue works can give you a strategic advantage. Here’s how to navigate the ticketing queue: Stay Patient: Once you’re in the queue, avoid the temptation to refresh the page, as this can cause you to lose your place. Most queues will update automatically, so just sit tight and wait for your turn. Have Backup Plans: If you’re trying for multiple festivals, have a plan B in case you don’t get tickets for your first choice. Keep another tab open for an alternative festival or date, or even consider secondary sales options (more on this later). Don’t Rely on a Single Queue: If possible, have friends or family members log in to the queue on their devices as well. This increases the chances that one of you will get through faster. Once you’ve made it through the queue, be quick to select your tickets and complete the purchase, as tickets can still sell out during the checkout process. Join a Festival Waiting List If you miss out on early tickets, don’t lose hope. Many festivals offer waiting lists for fans who weren’t able to purchase tickets in the initial sale. While joining a waiting list doesn’t guarantee you’ll get tickets, it does give you a second chance if more tickets become available. Here’s how to join a waiting list: Visit the Festival’s Official Website: Most festivals will have an official waiting list on their website. Sign up with your email address to be notified if more tickets are released. Check Secondary Ticketing Platforms: Some official ticketing platforms, like Ticketmaster, offer verified resales, which allow fans to sell tickets they can’t use. Be cautious when using third-party resale sites, as not all are legitimate. Stay Alert for Additional Ticket Releases: Some festivals may release additional batches of tickets closer to the event date. Keep an eye on festival updates and newsletters to be the first to know when more tickets become available. While waiting lists aren’t foolproof, they can be a lifeline for last-minute tickets. Leverage Fan Clubs and Street Teams Festival organizers often reward fan loyalty with early ticket access through fan clubs, street teams, and exclusive groups. These insider connections can give you a head start on securing festival tickets before the general public. Here’s how to get involved: Join the Artist Fan Club: Many artists offer fan club memberships that include early access to tickets for festivals they’re headlining. This is especially useful if you’re a die-hard fan of a particular performer. Become a Festival Ambassador: Some festivals offer ambassador programs, where you can earn perks like early ticket access by promoting the event on social media or selling tickets to friends. Research if your favorite festivals have these opportunities and sign up if available. Follow Influencers and Partner Brands: Some festivals partner with influencers, brands, or media outlets to offer exclusive presale opportunities. Follow these accounts on social media to catch any special promotions or giveaways. Building connections within the festival community can open doors to early ticket access, giving you an edge over the general public. Stay Organized and Plan Ahead The key to securing festival tickets early is organization. With so many steps involved, it’s essential to plan ahead and stay on top of the latest news and presale announcements. Here’s how to keep things organized: Create a Calendar: Mark the dates and times of ticket releases for the festivals you’re interested in attending. Include presale dates, general sale dates, and any secondary ticket release dates. Set Up Reminders: Use your phone or calendar app to set reminders in the days leading up to the ticket release. This ensures you’re always ready to act when tickets become available. Communicate with Friends: If you’re attending a festival with friends, coordinate your ticket-buying efforts. Multiple people trying to buy tickets increases your chances of success. The more organized you are, the less stressful the ticket-buying process will be. FAQs How early can I get festival tickets? You can often get festival tickets early by signing up for presales, joining fan clubs, or using credit card presale opportunities. These typically take place before general public ticket sales. Festival season is all about expressing yourself, and there’s no better way to do that than through your outfit. The best festival outfits in 2024 will combine comfort with creativity, mixing bold patterns, playful accessories, and on-trend pieces that reflect your unique personality. Whether you’re headed to Glastonbury, Coachella, Tomorrowland, or any other music festival, what you wear is just as important as who you go to see. After all, festivals are as much about fashion as they are about music! As we look ahead to the 2024 festival circuit, there are several exciting fashion trends set to dominate the scene. From vibrant colors and sustainable fabrics to retro-inspired looks and cutting-edge accessories, this year’s festival fashion is all about standing out while staying comfortable. So, let’s dive into the best festival outfits for 2024 and how to put together the perfect look for your next big event. Why Festival Fashion Matters Festival fashion has evolved from being purely functional to a true expression of art, culture, and individuality. The right outfit can enhance your festival experience, boost your confidence, and help you connect with others who share your style. Plus, with so many festivals taking place across different climates and locations, choosing the right clothes can make the difference between enjoying every minute and feeling uncomfortable. In 2024, festival-goers are more fashion-conscious than ever before, embracing trends that are not only stylish but also practical for long days spent dancing in the sun (or rain). This year, sustainability will play a key role in festival fashion, with eco-friendly fabrics and upcycled materials becoming mainstream. But that’s just the beginning – let’s take a closer look at the trends that will dominate festival style in 2024. Best Festival Outfits 2024: Key Trends Discover the best festival outfits of 2024 1. Sustainable and Ethical Fashion Sustainability is at the forefront of fashion in 2024, and the festival scene is no exception. With growing awareness about the environmental impact of fast fashion, many festival-goers are turning to eco-friendly, ethically produced outfits. From clothing made from organic cotton to recycled materials, expect to see a rise in sustainable fashion brands dominating the festival market. Some top trends within the sustainable fashion movement include: Upcycled Outfits: Incorporating old, revamped clothing into your festival wardrobe. Eco-Friendly Fabrics: Materials like hemp, bamboo, and organic cotton are lightweight, breathable, and perfect for hot festival days. Vintage and Thrifted Finds: Second-hand shopping is not only budget-friendly but also great for creating one-of-a-kind looks. By choosing sustainable pieces, you not only look great but also feel good about your contribution to reducing the fashion industry’s carbon footprint. 2. Bold Colors and Prints One of the most exciting trends for 2024 is the return of bold, bright colors and eye-catching prints. Festivals are the perfect place to experiment with statement pieces, and this year, the louder, the better! Neon hues, rainbow tie-dye, and psychedelic prints are making a big comeback, bringing a sense of fun and energy to festival fashion. Some colors and prints to look out for include: Neon Shades: Electric greens, hot pinks, and blazing oranges are set to dominate the festival scene. These colors not only make a statement but also keep you visible in the crowd. Abstract Patterns: Geometric shapes, swirling designs, and abstract art prints offer a futuristic, creative edge. Animal Prints: Leopard, zebra, and snake prints are festival staples that never go out of style. This year, expect to see more unconventional takes on classic animal prints, like neon tiger stripes or pastel leopard spots. Pair bold prints with solid pieces to balance your look, or go all-in for a head-turning, fearless festival vibe. 3. Retro and Y2K Revival Fashion trends from the 1990s and early 2000s are making a strong comeback in 2024, and festivals are the ideal place to embrace this nostalgic style. Think low-rise jeans, halter tops, and chunky platform shoes, all with a modern twist. Key pieces for achieving that retro Y2K festival look: Denim Everything: From ripped denim shorts to overalls and bucket hats, denim is timeless and versatile for any festival setting. Butterfly Tops: Channel your inner 2000s diva with butterfly crop tops and colorful accessories. Platform Sneakers: Comfortable yet stylish, platform sneakers are perfect for long days on your feet. Overpacking can lead to discomfort, while underpacking may leave you unprepared for the unpredictable weather and long days. Here’s a comprehensive list of essentials to bring along: Tent and Sleeping Gear: Choose a sturdy, waterproof tent that’s easy to assemble. Bring a sleeping bag suitable for cooler nights, a foam mat or inflatable mattress, and a small pillow for comfort. Coaches are a popular choice as they drop you off close to the entrance and reduce the hassle of navigating traffic. Trains can get very busy, so it’s advisable to book tickets early and allow extra time for connections. Websites like Liftshare connect festival-goers who have space in their cars with those in need of a ride. Bike racks are available on-site, and some dedicated cycling routes can get you to the festival while avoiding traffic. Choosing the Right Accommodation Camping is the most authentic way to experience Glastonbury, but it’s not the only option. Depending on your preferences, you can opt for a variety of accommodation types: Standard Camping: The majority of festival-goers camp in the general camping areas. These are first-come, first-served, so arriving early gives you the best chance of finding a prime spot. Choose a location close enough to the action but far enough from the main stages to get some rest. Many offer shuttle services to and from the festival, but book early as these fill up quickly. Campervans: For those with a campervan or motorhome, Glastonbury provides dedicated campervan fields. This offers more privacy and comfort but comes with an additional cost and limited availability. Staying Safe at Glastonbury Amidst the excitement and crowds, safety is crucial at Glastonbury. Arrange meet-up points in case your phones die or you lose signal. Take Breaks: The festival can be overwhelming, with non-stop music, activities, and crowds. It’s essential to take breaks, rest, and pace yourself to avoid burnout. Navigating the Festival Grounds With over 200,000 people attending, the Glastonbury site can be tricky to navigate. Here’s how to get around efficiently: Download the Festival App: Glastonbury’s official app provides live updates on set times, maps, and other essential information to help you plan your day. Festival Etiquette: Respecting the Glastonbury Spirit Glastonbury prides itself on its sense of community and sustainability. Follow these tips to contribute positively to the festival atmosphere: Respect the Environment: Glastonbury has a strong focus on reducing its environmental impact. Use the recycling points provided, take your tent home, and avoid single-use plastics where possible. True Entertainment Launches Management Division, Names Robot Sunrise As First Artist
True Entertainment Events, one of Southern California’s most respected underground dance music purveyors, has just launched its own management division, True Management. True Entertainment Events has spent the last decade growing its annual, grassroots camping festival Off The Grid Campout from a 50-person desert renegade to a 1200-person, four-day festival that programs 76+ nonstop hours of house, techno, drum n’ bass and more. Now, the company is ready to extrapolate from their years of experience building fervent, community-oriented audiences and translate that skillset to artist development, where they’ll separate themselves from the pack through a “no-ego” approach. That uniquely collaborative approach is being spearheaded by company founder Mikey Made, the DJ/producer/event impresario who has spent his career cultivating DIY spaces in Southern California’s underground scene. Musically, True Management will specialize in hybrid DJ/live acts from across genres such as house, techno, and bass. Philosophically, Mikey Made wants to offer an alternative to the industry’s exploitative, aloof management companies and agencies, and act as a conduit for artists to find their perfect team members – an approach that emphasizes long-term industry success without sacrificing happiness or ethics. In tandem with their company launch, True Management has named melodic techno prodigy Robot Sunrise (the solo project of producer/multi-instrumentalist Danny Klein) as the company’s first client. A long-time ringleader of LA’s house and techno scene, Robot Sunrise previously made waves as half of electronic duo Dreamfreak, where he released multiple tracks through legendary dance record label Astralwerks. He’s also co-written and performed with GRAMMY-winning artist / G.O.O.D. Music-affiliate Really Doe, as well as co-written for GRAMMY-nominated act Télépopmusik. Credit: Blake Mohr Robot Sunrise is the perfect artist to kick off this new era of True Management: as an innovative producer, DJ and live instrumentalist with a charitable mission (Robot Sunrise will donate a portion of his music proceeds to Human Rights Foundation), Robot Sunrise embodies the core principles of True Management. Robot Sunrise has also known Mikey Made for years, and played multiple iterations of Off The Grid Campout, Off the Grid Hotel, and the recent Off the Grid stage at Mexico City’s Atmosphere Festival, giving their newly-minted joint effort additional creative synergy. Today, in his first release as part of the True Management family, Robot Sunrise unveils ‘London Public WiFi (Robbie Rivera Remix)‘ under SPIN Records/Greater Than Distribution – wherein legendary house maestro Robbie Rivera brilliantly reworks the original single, which has amassed more than 80,000 Spotify streams since dropping last year. Serving as SPIN Records’ first-ever release, ‘London Public WiFi (Robbie Rivera Remix)‘ marks the second collaboration of 2024 between Robot Sunrise and the UK chart-topping Rivera, following ‘A New Start (Robbie Rivera Remix)‘. However, the two producers have spent years establishing a close creative partnership (Dreamfreak, with band-mate doll machine, collaborated with Rivera on tracks such as ‘The Stars‘ and ‘One‘), a fact made evident on this new remix. With its seamless blending of Robot Sunrise’s cinematic techno stylings alongside Rivera’s signature instrumental bounce, ‘London Public Wifi (Robbie Rivera Remix)‘ is a spellbinding showcase of two artists at the peak of their songwriting powers. “Robot Sunrise is making waves in the culture of melodic techno music. From the preview performance we saw at SXSW 2024 cementing his place as one to watch, to now becoming the first release on SPIN Records, Greater Than is excited to rise to the occasion and help set the stage for Robot Sunrise’s bright future“ -Paula Moore and Randy Jackson, Co-CEO’s of Greater Than Distribution Kicking off with immersive analog synth sound design and robotic vocals, ‘London Public WiFi (Robbie Rivera Remix)‘ builds with a triumphant mix of orchestral brass elements, spacious piano tones, and extra-terrestrial synth layering before easing into a groovy club beat. Imbuing the original’s sci-fi atmosphere with infectious techno rhythms and a glorious sense of scale, Robbie Rivera crafts an update that expands on the original’s sonic mission statement without sacrificing the track’s initial creative spirit. Credit: Blake Mohr Listeners can catch Robot Sunrise play out ‘London Public WiFi (Robbie Rivera Remix)‘ on his upcoming tour dates. Robot Sunrise tour dates 9/27/24: Austin, TX – Off The Grid Campout Austin 10/11/24: Apple Valley, CA – Off The Grid Campout SoCal 11/9/24: Los Angeles, CA – The Robot Sunrise Experience The post True Entertainment Launches Management Division, Names Robot Sunrise As First Artist appeared first on EDMTunes.

Label Spotlight: Monstercat
Who are you? Monstercat, headed up by Senior Directors Orri Sachar & Daniel Turcotte. What’s your ethos? Monstercat is a community-focused label with a diverse roster of artists. We take pride in showcasing exciting new talent bursting onto the scene alongside some of the most sought-after legendary artists around the world, and strive to make our music accessible to ravers and gamers alike. Rather than positioning a single artist at the centre of our label, Monstercat is an equal playing field for all artists looking to have their moment in the spotlight. Tell us your origin story? Monstercat was founded in 2011 by Mike Darlington and Ari Paunonen in the Canadian college town of Waterloo. With the help of rising tastemaker and A&R Jon Winter aka ‘Going Quantum’, the three built a community of artists from the furthest corners of the internet and used emerging music discovery platforms like YouTube to amass an army of loyal superfans. Fast forward 13 years later, and that idea that was formed in online chatrooms has turned into a global authority in all forms of dance music, with millions of followers, and billions of streams. Tell us about your local scene… As a Canadian company, the majority of the Monstercat team is based in Vancouver, BC, and operates remotely. This allows the team to enjoy the beautiful nature that the Canadian west coast has to offer, as well as a rich outdoor festival culture with annual events such as Shambhala, Fvded in the Park and Basscoast all within a short distance from home. The company’s primary creative hub is located in Los Angeles, where Artists are constantly coming through to work with our teams in Monstercat’s state of the art studio spaces. Do you have a specific sound or vibe? Our vibe is generally fun, high energy, and carefree; it’s tough to take yourself too seriously when your mascot is a cat. Sonically, we have evolved over the years as our roster of artists has grown and diversified. One of the perks of not being an artist figurehead label is that we can adapt as the global music landscape shifts, rather than being pigeon holed to one specific genre. Our culture as a label has always been about positivity, a pure love of music, and setting a quality standard for the next generation of dance music listeners. Do you have a regular artist roster? Monstercat has both a core artist roster, and a large list of friends and familiar faces who we always welcome back with open arms. 2024 is full of exciting releases with longtime label mainstays like Koven, MUZZ, Crankdat, WHIPPED CREAM, Sullivan King, Bossfight and Dirtyphonics. We’ve also managed to bring in some acts that we’re really big fans of like ATLiens, Nostalgix, Samplifire, Control Freak, Riot Ten, INFEKT, Fairlane, & UZ. Even with all that said, we have an incredibly exciting last few months of the year, including records from Virtual Riot, REZZ, Rusko, and Zomboy, who are all making their label debuts. There are so many more names we didn’t mention, and so many incredible artists that we have the pleasure of working with, we’re truly spoiled with amazing music here at Monstercat. Tell us about your A&R process… We release a lot of records, 250+ releases per year across three distinct labels. Each label has a different sound/approach, and a release output that matches that goal. For Monstercat Uncaged, which is our Bass music-focused label, our A&Rs focus on finding records that are High Energy, and Fun. One thing that has always been at the forefront of our A&R process is to ensure that a song can be enjoyed both in a high-energy club/festival setting and in a personal listening experience at home. We want to make sure our records are catchy and memorable, and that they have their own unique identity. At the end of the day, we are dance music fans first, and so if we love something we hear, it is our duty as a label to share that as far and wide as possible. What makes you different from other labels? As much as we are in this industry to have fun and celebrate great art, we also take our jobs incredibly seriously. Life at Monstercat is early mornings and late nights, it’s making sure that every detail is well thought out and intentional, and creating a safe space for our artists and community to share their passion for music. That mentality has been our core belief for 13+ years, which has allowed us to continue to grow and thrive in an ever-changing musical landscape. What does it take to run a bass music label in 2024? To run a label in 2024 and beyond…you need to be crafty, and you need to be constantly reinventing your approach to getting your records out in the world. Dance music fans aren’t going anywhere, but the tools needed to reach them are constantly changing, and as a label, our job is to be the best at connecting songs with as many ears as possible. In 2024, we’ve seen DJ performances connecting in the digital space like never before, especially when you can capture that magic moment in an artist’s set; it’s a great tool for getting people’s attention in an overstimulated digital world. We also feel like authentic interactions with dance fans and artists will continue to dominate in a world that is increasingly influenced by algorithms and platforms. What have you got coming up we should look out for? Our Annual Monstercat ADE showcase in Amsterdam is happening October. 17, with a lineup that we still can’t believe is real (take a look!). We also have marquee takeovers at Lost Lands (Sept. 20-22), Same Same But Different (Sept. 27-29) and Ministry of Sound (Oct. 11), and a few more events to be announced as we round out the year. 2024 has really raised the bar for artists, records and events at Monstercat, and so we really look forward to continuing the momentum going into the new year. We encourage everyone reading this to dive into some of our recent releases if you haven’t because we are really proud of the incredible collective of artists and records we’ve been able to support this year.
