It’s Officially Summer 2024 With Lane 8’s Mixtape Arrival
It’s that time again for Lane 8’s highly anticipated mixtapes, and out today is his Summer 2024 Mixtape. This highly anticipated release is a rare treat, perfectly timed to align with the current season change. Get ready for the magical vibes of the upcoming summer solstice with an exciting three-hour mixtape. Summer 2024 Mixtape ID 1 Spanning over a beautiful 3-hour playtime containing 48 tracks and 16 unreleased IDs. Obviously I need a whole subheading for ID 1 – showcases my excitement. Do you recognize the first ID, from any of the Maestro Lane 8’s live performances this year? It goes, “Wake up where you are!” I first heard this track at his Igloofest set in Montreal. If you happened to be at the San Diego Summer Gatherings you’d have heard Daniel throw this in his set as well. This ID has the tell signs of a perfect new collaboration with our beloved Kasablanca boys. Part of Kasablanca’s rumored album, or will it finally be included in Lane 8’s next album? Fans eagerly await a new album since Brightest Lights is four and a half years old. It’s long overdue! Daniel has been relatively quiet this year, focusing on his Summer Gatherings show and various festivals. One can’t help but hope that his silence means he’s been crafting some truly spectacular music for us in the studio. A sneak peak below of ID 1 from Igloofest for all my lovely readers! All Other IDs + Tracks The mixtape features tracks from TNH artists such as EMBRZ, Rinzen, Paradoks, OCULA, Paris, and Otherwish. There are also a couple of unreleased remixes, including Sultan & Shepard’s ‘All I Know’ from their remixed album Endless Dawn. An unreleased remix of Bon Iver’s ‘22 (OVER S∞∞N)’ by OLING really impressed me. There are 16 amazing new IDs. I particularly noticed OCULA’s presence in ID 4 and 6. And of course, how can Daniel forget to include Massane’s upcoming EP? Listen to ID 9, 10, and 13 – they could be part of his upcoming Visage 7 series! I can’t seem to figure out the mystery behind ID 16, so if anyone does, please let me know as I can’t stop hitting the replay button on that track. The mix also features new tunes from Simon Doty, My Friend, Stella Bossi, Nox Vahn, Tinlicker, Christian Löffler, and many others. It’s already noon here in Toronto, and I’ve already enjoyed this mixtape twice. This Summer 2024 mixtape is all set to be the soundtrack for the next few months. Be sure to stream it on your favorite platform and share how much you love it. Stay tuned to EDMTunes for all your dance music updates! Last year, Charlotte de Witte put the world on notice when she took over New York City for a very special weekend of festivities. On top of 2 sold-out shows at the iconic Brooklyn Mirage, she also shut down the streets last year with a pop-up block party in the Lower East Side. Getting to Know Sennheiser's Futuristic 490 Pro Plus Headphones
Mostly anyone who makes music would agree: a good set of headphones can be a secret weapon. In the case of the 490 Pro Plus Headphones from Sennheiser, they have a healthy price tag of $450 USD and a tidal wave of potential. Whether it's for mixing full length albums or experimenting with sounds in the formative stages of a new track, the price becomes easily justified when considering what the 490 Pro Plus Headphones are capable of. This sounds like a lot of praise, but bear in mind they’re currently garnering plaudits from other crowds outside the music industry where quality audio is valued too. On Reddit, for instance, whole threads are dedicated to the way Sennheiser's product is a game-changer for the gaming community. "If you compare today’s music productions with that of 10, 20 years ago, you will notice how the massively increased computing power and complex parameter automation have changed the way in which music is made," Sennheiser's Category Market Manager, Jimmy Landry, said in a recent press release. "In every genre, engineers and music creators are continuously pushing boundaries, creating extremely complex mixes that can be prone to so-called 'audio blind spots.'" "Mixes can be crowded and muddy, with too many instruments sitting at the same position and their frequencies competing. For the engineer or musician, it becomes difficult to hear each individual instrument or voice distinctly. This goes to show the importance of a good pair of studio headphones." When we wanted to learn how the 490 Pro Plus would suit the creation process of dance music in a home studio, EDM.com decided to put the product to the test. We spent more than 1,000 hours using these and other headphones over the last month. In the process, we succeeded in identifying three distinctions that starkly separated the 490 Pro Plus from its peers. Fit for the long runThe biggest superpower we found in Sennheiser’s 490 Pro Plus was its ability to stay light and velvety on the ears even after hours and hours of turning knobs and pressing buttons. Headphones typically become increasingly uncomfortable the longer you wear them, but the 490s grip and breathe in balanced homeostasis, enabling the wearer to press on in the studio when the creative juices get flowing. Sennheiser Muffs that make a differenceOne of the first things that proved a ton of thought went into the 490 Pro Plus was the two types of muffs that come with the unit. At first it seemed like one was superfluous, but upon closer inspection there was so much more to think about. One was velour and the other fabric. The velour offers a softer, matted sound, which is ideal for holistic judgements and live instruments—a massive advantage in conservative home studios that do a lot of producing or mastering. The fabric set of muffs, on the other hand, produce a crispier, flatter sound that’s advantageous for mixing. For producing any sort of electronic dance music, these were indispensable, especially for the producer on-the-go. Luckily, it all packed up together nicely in the same case. Spacial readyPerhaps further proof that for audio professionals at Sennheiser are edging an industry zenith, the 490 Pro Plus is calibrated for 3D sound models and audio production for augmented reality. Every set comes with a free license for the DearVR MIX-SE Plugin from Dear Reality. It essentially transmutes a DAW in a virtual mixing format by moving around the acoustics of the sounds to match the calibrations of multi-million dollar mixing studios. While easy to overlook, or say "I'd never use that though…" the spacial readiness of the product and software like this emphasize Sennheiser’s superiority, especially when compared to other high-end headphones on the market today. ADE 2024 sees DGTL return to its renowned home at the iconic NDSM Warehouse
DGTL opens its ADE weekend with Caribou, performing their first Dutch live show in two years. The infectious energy and unique blend of alternative electronica, indie rock and a touch of jazz have made the live band around Dan Snaith high-profile. The Canadian proved earlier this year that Caribou also carries a raw sting, dropping the unadulterated club track “Honey” to widespread critical acclaim. That edge alone promises to make Caribou’s DGTL ADE show an unforgettable experience. Caribou will be followed by an evening of melodic techno, with performances by Colyn, Jan Blomqvist (+drums), Mathame, Fideles, Nicky Elisabeth and Miss Monique, among others. On Friday, Nils Frahm will provide a magical evening, transforming the NDSM Warehouse into his own Berlin Funkhaus studio for 2.5 hours. Expect a unique, immersive show in which he blurs the boundaries between classical music and modern electronic sounds with virtuoso performances on piano and synthesizers. A unique, enchanting experience that will appeal to fans of electronic music and lovers of classical music alike. Saturday now traditionally revolves around The Blessed Madonna’s extravagant We Still Believe. In addition to The Blessed Madonna herself, Marie Davidson will perform live as will Kenny Dope, revered globally as one-half of the legendary house duo Masters at Work. Festival goers can expect sets from a stacked line-up of major talent, including from Avalon Emerson, Bashkka, and eccentric Berlin artist Patrick Mason, who recently showed off his energetic techno to a frenzied crowd on the Generator Stage at DGTL Festival. After the colourful daytime program, the night turns pitch black, with a harder program that seeks the ragged edges of industrial, hardstyle and raw techno. Brutalismus 3000 presents a mammoth takeover under the banner “Brutalismus 3000 Invites”, including Boys Noize, Rebekah, Salome, Lúcia Lu, DJ Hyperdrive, Raven and, of course, the celebrated duo itself. Last Sunday’s edition of DGTL ADE proved to be a golden one. For many, Gou Talk by Peggy Gou is the perfect way to end ADE in spectacular fashion. No surprise then that Gou Talk returns for a second time, with 2024’s edition featuring Peggy Gou, Bambounou, Marie Montexier, Anz, Salamanda, Spray and Brain de Palma, among others. Henry Moores’ Charity Walk from Manchester to Ibiza: A Story of Determination and Altruism
Henry Moores, a 22-year-old from Macclesfield, has achieved an extraordinary feat by walking 2,400 kilometers from Manchester, England to Ibiza, Spain to raise funds for the Tony Hudgell Foundation. On June 16, after 66 days of relentless trekking, Henry triumphantly arrived on the White Isle, having raised an impressive £125,938—nearly triple his initial goal. Henry’s journey to Ibiza follows his successful 800-kilometer walk to Paris in 2023, during which he raised over £19,000. Motivated to push his limits and create a larger impact, Henry embarked on this new challenge. “I’ve always wanted to do something massive, maybe a bit crazy, to catch people’s attention,” he told Euro News. The Tony Hudgell Foundation, named after nine-year-old Tony Hudgell who lost both legs due to severe abuse from his biological parents, was the cause Henry chose to support. Tony’s adoptive mother, Paula Hudgell, established the foundation to help children suffering from physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. Henry’s ambitious endeavor quickly captured the public’s attention and support on social media, leading to his initial fundraising goal of £50,000 being met two days before he reached Ibiza. With the target now set at £150,000, donations have surged to £128,627 within just three days. Support for Henry extended beyond financial contributions. Fans flew out to cheer him on, walk alongside him, and provide essentials like food, clothes, deodorant, and toothbrushes. Celebrities such as Johnny Fisher and Kai Fagan also joined him, boosting his morale along the way. Henry’s epic walk from Manchester to Ibiza is a shining example of blending personal ambition with philanthropy. His journey not only aims to raise significant funds for charity but also serves as an inspiration for others to pursue their dreams while contributing to the greater good. In an interview with the BBC, Henry revealed that he “100% plans to party,” – a more than well-deserved celebration after his incredible achievement. Donations to the Tony Hudgell Foundation can be made through JustGiving.com, and you can follow Henry’s future challenges that he’s already started planning, on Instagram and TikTok.

However, Guetta and van Buuren have never released original music together. That's all set to change after the two superstars revealed their first-ever collaboration is on the way. They took to social media to reveal a new track, which was inspired by the duo's debut B2B at Ushuaïa Ibiza in 2022. Paul Oakenfold presents new track ‘Hallucinate’
As part of Perfecto’s 30th anniversary, Paul Oakenfold presents new single “Hallucinate“. Co-written by Paul and Penny, Hallucinate’s lyrics are inspired by Penny’s spiritual home – Ibiza, where the track will no doubt go down a storm this summer. It’s pure dancefloor euphoria – a sure fire anthem which builds into an overwhelming sensory rush, just like its title. Hallucinate is one of my favourite new songs. I’ve been a fan of Penny F for a while, and finally got to collaborate with her on this one. It’s a wonderful song and Penny has a fantastic voice. I’ve been playing it the last few months and a lot of people have been asking for it. So here it is! To mark a major milestone for one of the most famous dance music companies, there will be special releases, remixes, collaborations, and live shows. Things began earlier this year with the release of “Concentrate,” the first song Paul and Carl Cox ever worked together on. Now, a documentary called “Welcome to Perfecto” is on the way. It includes interviews with famous DJs like Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Todd Terry, David Guetta, and more. Plus, Paul will make a series of special DJ appearances in America, the UK, Ibiza, and Australia, at parties, festivals, and superclubs like Cream where he made his name. He will play old Perfecto songs and deep cuts like PPK’s “ResuRection,” Planet Perfecto’s “Bullet in a Gun,” and his own hits like “Starry Eyed Surprise,” which he made with Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock and was on Oakenfold’s 2002 platinum debut solo album Bunkka. There will be new music from some of the most cutting-edge acts and producers working today, like Velvet Cash, Danny Stubbs, Blink, Adam White, and Nat Monday. Oakenfold has built a dance music business that includes making DJ superstars like Hernán Cattáneo, Mark Ronson, and David Guetta, as well as introducing new people to underground dance sounds. “Perfecto 30” will honor Oakenfold’s history and legacy. The main Perfecto label and its four sub-labels—Perfecto Records, Perfecto Fluoro, Perfecto Black, and Perfecto House—have been a part of almost every major dance scene in the last few decades, from progressive and trance to drum and bass, Balearic, electro, and more. Perfecto is now a thirty-year-old brand: there are generations that have grown up with the sound. They got into dance music and have grown up with the label, collecting our vinyl from day one. It’s turned into much more than a label. So to celebrate that spirit, I’m just going to do what I’m good at and really love – and go out in a blaze of glory for my last dance. – Paul Oakenfold on Perfecto 30 Listen and download Hallucinate. Studio Survival: Forbidden Society
PreSonus Studio One 6 I have been using Studio One since its release in version 4, and it has taken me a significant amount of time to master its capabilities fully. Initially, I explored several other digital audio workstations (DAWs), but ultimately, Studio One has emerged as my preferred choice due to its robust feature set and seamless workflow. One of the primary reasons I have chosen Studio One is its commitment to regular updates, which ensures that the software remains stable and compatible with the latest hardware and plugins. The daw’s intuitive interface and streamlined workflow make it easy to navigate, even for complex projects. Furthermore, the built-in plugin suite, including the PreSonus Classic Compressor, EQ, and Reverb, offers a comprehensive range of processing tools, allowing users to create high-quality mixes without relying on external plugins. In addition to its technical merits, Studio One’s support team is renowned for its prompt and friendly response to user queries. Whether you’re a seasoned producer or a newcomer to music production, Studio One’s comprehensive resources and dedicated support team provide an unparalleled level of assistance, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking to create professional-grade music. Overall, I find Studio One to be a powerful and reliable DAW that has become an essential part of my music production workflow. Its versatility, stability, and user-friendly interface make it an excellent choice for producers of all levels. Fabfilter Pro-Q 3 The Fabfilter Pro-Q 3 is a vital component in my workflow, not only on this album but on every project I work on. As I believe that EQ is a crucial aspect of the music production and mastering process, I rely heavily on this plugin to get the sound just right. What I particularly appreciate about the Pro-Q 3 is its intuitive mid/side processing capabilities, which allow for precise control over the tone and balance of my tracks. Additionally, the plugin’s built-in frequency spectrum analyzer is incredibly useful, providing a visual representation of the audio signal that helps me identify and target specific frequencies with ease. iZotope Ozone 11 iZotope Ozone 11 is the final plugin in my mastering chain. I’ve been using it extensively since its 11th iteration and I’m impressed by its versatility and effectiveness. Specifically, I really like the Exciter module, which adds subtle harmonics and tone-shaping capabilities to my master tracks. I use almost every module in Ozone 11, but not heavily – just subtle tweaks to get the best sound. The plugin’s interface is easy to navigate, and it integrates well with my other plugins and processing chains. I appreciate the level of control it offers, from subtle EQ adjustments to more dramatic effects. Overall, Ozone 11 is a reliable and powerful tool for getting my mixes to sound their best. Universal Audio – UAD Spark I recently transitioned to Universal Audio’s (UAD) subscription-based plugin model, which has enabled me to access their renowned suite of emulations. As a result, I’ve been able to integrate several UAD plugins into my workflow, including the Pultec Passive EQ, Oxide Tape Recorder, and Capitol Mastering Compressor. On my drum bus, I utilize the Pultec Passive EQ (Type T) to add subtle tone and definition to the mix. The Type T is particularly effective in enhancing the attack and clarity of the drum kit, allowing me to sculpt a more nuanced and detailed sound. When processing the master chain, I often employ the Oxide Tape Recorder plugin to impart a warm, analogue tape-like quality to the mix. This plugin’s ability to subtly add texture and saturation has been particularly effective in enhancing the overall cohesion and cohesion of the mix. In select instances, I also utilize the Capitol Mastering Compressor as a first-stage compressor on my master chain. This plugin’s precision and transparency allow me to effectively control the dynamics of the mix, ensuring that the loudest peaks are gently reigned in while maintaining the overall dynamic range of the music. Whether used subtly or more aggressively, these UAD plugins have proven to be invaluable tools in my mixing arsenal, enabling me to craft mixes that are both sonically pleasing and musically effective. ‘Lonely Road’ is a deviation from the well traveled path for Forbidden Society. An album focused on exploration and expression, ‘Lonely Road’ sees Forbidden Society travel in new directions. We encouraged him to explore personal and musical themes and it led to this beautiful, dark and dense body of work. Sometimes someone can be found hiding in the noise. Away from light, cloaked in distortion, breathing under the concrete. They might be found to speak, a lone transmission like a resonant peak in a storm. Their voice is dwarfed by the violence, but if you listen closely, you can hear their story.

Electric Zoo New York announces refund for 2023… kind of
After months of radio silence, the organizers of Electric Zoo New York 2023 have finally released a press statement. They addressed the long-awaited refund process for the ill-fated festival. However, the announcement has been met with a mix of relief and outrage, further fueling the controversy surrounding one of the most disastrous events in recent memory. The Refund Debacle: Too Little, Too Late? According to the press release, ticketing provider See Tickets will commence issuing refunds to eligible ticket holders by July 19, 2024 – a staggering nine months after the festival took place. The criteria for eligibility are specific, with only certain categories of ticket holders qualifying for partial or full refunds. This stringent approach has drawn criticism from attendees who feel that all ticket holders should be entitled to a refund, given the widespread issues that plagued the event. The Refund Process Breakdown: how to be refunded for Electric Zoo 2023? According to the statement, See Tickets, the exclusive ticketing provider for Electric Zoo 2023, will commence issuing refunds to eligible ticket holders by July 19, 2024. The press release outlines specific eligibility criteria for those seeking a refund: Friday, September 1, 2023 single or multi-day ticket holders who have not filed a dispute/chargeback, nor previously received a face-value refund. These individuals are eligible for: 100% refund for Friday single-day ticket holders 50% refund for two-day ticket holders 33% refund for three-day ticket holders Sunday, September 3, 2023 single or multi-day admission ticket holders who were unable to access the event (as determined by entry scan data), and have not filed a dispute/chargeback, nor previously received a face-value refund. These individuals are eligible for: 100% refund for Sunday single-day ticket holders 50% refund for two-day ticket holders 33% refund for three-day ticket holders Eligible ticket holders will receive direct communication from See Tickets via email, providing further instructions on how to claim their refunds. Poor Communication and Lack of Transparency One of the most glaring issues highlighted by the refund announcement is the organizers’ poor communication and lack of transparency throughout the entire ordeal. For months, attendees were left in the dark, with no clear information provided about the refund process or the festival’s future. This absence of communication only served to exacerbate the frustration and mistrust among the once-loyal fanbase. DJ 3LAU summed up the sentiment eloquently: It’s been 9 months since the festival – this is absurd. Def never playing again if it even survives (doubtful). The DJ’s statement underscores the severe damage inflicted upon Electric Zoo’s reputation, with even industry professionals expressing skepticism about the festival’s viability moving forward. But what happened back in 2023? Overcrowding, Gate-Crashing, and Safety Concerns The refund announcement is a reminder of the multitude of issues that plagued Electric Zoo 2023. From last-minute cancellations and overcrowding to gate-crashing incidents and safety concerns, the festival was a logistical nightmare. Attendees recall harrowing experiences of being trapped in massive, uncontrolled crowds, with no clear exit routes or assistance from security personnel. One attendee’s comments encapsulate the gravity of the situation: “Whoever runs this event DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY. So many other fun festivals you can go to that have the same artists. FUCK EZOO. NYC better never EVER let y’all do this shit again.” The sentiment reflects the profound sense of betrayal felt by many attendees, who entrusted their well-being to the organizers and were met with utter disregard for their safety. The Future of Electric Zoo: Can Trust Be Regained? As the refund process begins, the organizers of Electric Zoo face an uphill battle in regaining the trust and loyalty of their fanbase. The festival’s reputation has been severely tarnished, with attendees vowing never to return and threatening further legal action if their demands for refunds are not met. In their press release, the organizers acknowledged their shortcomings, stating, “We know we let you down. As we continue forward, we will work every day to earn back your trust and forgiveness.” However, these words ring hollow to many, who view the organizers’ actions – or lack thereof – as a direct contradiction to their claims of prioritizing attendee satisfaction. The road to redemption for Electric Zoo is a long and arduous one. Regaining the trust of attendees, artists, and industry professionals will require a complete overhaul of their operational practices, coupled with a sustained commitment to transparency and open communication. Whether Electric Zoo will rise from the ashes or fade into obscurity remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – the event of 2023 will forever be a cautionary tale in the world of festival organization and attendee safety. Electric Zoo Issue Statement on 2023 Ticket Refunds
One of New York’s favourite electronic music festivals, Electric Zoo, made its 13th appearance in Randall’s Island last year, unfortunately with some problems that caused the first day of the event to be cancelled, a 2-hour delay to Saturday’s initial kick off time, endless queue lines and stopped further entry on the third day due to reaching full capacity. Today, nine months later after the incidents, Electric Zoo has finally announced that all eligible ticket holders will be contacted directly via email and can expect refunds by July 19th. According to the organisers, you will have money back if: September 1st, 2023, you held a single or multi day pass and have not filed a chargeback/dispute, nor previously received a face-value refund (100% for Sunday single day ticket holders; 50% for two day ticket holders and 33% for three day ticket holders). 2. September 3rd, 2023, you had a single or multi day admission ticket and were not able to enter the festival, as well as if you have not previously received a face-value refund. In the announcement made by the festival’s official account, the organisers state that they know they have let their fans down and the goal of the 2023 edition was to bring them an incredible experience that included new stage concepts and a new, upgraded production for the event. It is worth mentioning that the first day of the festival has been cancelled just 3 hours before open gates due to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation refusing to grant permits, even though festival organisers claimed the issue was caused by global supply chain disruptions. The mainstage has remained unfinished for the rest of the festival, failing the organiser’s plans and desires for the 2023 edition.

Electric Zoo Breaks Silence to Announce Refund Information
Just as the reality of NYC having no major Labor Day Weekend festival is really and truly setting in, Electric Zoo returns from the dead…sort of. In its first social media post since September 3, 2023, Electric Zoom took to socials to address ongoing frustration about the lack of refunds from 2023’s disastrous outing. See Tickets will begin issuing refunds to all remaining eligible ticketholders, with refunds to be processed by July 19, 2024. Day 1 ticketholders who did not file a dispute/chargeback and have not yet been refunded will be refunded. Day 3 ticketholders who did not enter the festival (by entry scan date) and have not filed a dispute/chargeback will receive a partial refund as well. Ezoo closed the letter by saying they will “work every day to earn back your trust and forgiveness”. That sounds like we can expect to hear from Electric Zoo again in the future, perhaps a 2025 return. As you might expect, the Facebook post is riddled with negative comments already. Electric Zoo to Issue Refunds Nine Months After Ill-Fated 2023 Festival
Attendees of 2023's ill-fated Electric Zoo festival are set to receive refunds over nine months later, according to a statement released today by its organizers. The New York-based electronic dance music festival, which took place over Labor Day Weekend, devolved into chaos on Randall's Island after the controversial cancellation of its first day, which organizers nebulously attributed to "supply chain disruptions" that hindered the construction of its mainstage. Chaos then ensued on Electric Zoo's final day, September 3rd, which was plagued by capacity concerns. After organizers released a midday statement announcing they were denying entry to the festival's venue, videos of attendees aggressively storming its gates flooded social media. Lawsuits piled up in the aftermath, including one contentious class action suit filed by a pair of plaintiffs who cited safety issues that arose from the "oversold and overcrowded" event. Following the festival's conclusion, Electric Zoo's owners said they planned on issuing refunds but refrained from announcing a formal solution. Electric Zoo in 2022 was purchased by the investment group behind Brooklyn hotspot Avant Gardner. Roughly 88,000 people attended last year's festival, according to the NYPD, who confirmed at the time that the consortium oversold passes by roughly 7,000. Electric Zoo has now announced its ticketing partner, See Tickets, will begin issuing refunds. All remaining eligible pass-holders will receive an email with instructions and can expect refunds to be processed by July 19th, they said. "When we first set out to bring you Electric Zoo 2023, our goal was to create a completely leveled-up experience that included new stage concepts, enhanced production, and so much more," reads a statement issued by the festival. "We know we let you down. As we continue forward, we will work every day to earn back your trust and forgiveness." Read Electric Zoo's full statement below. John Summit Says His Biggest Hits Were Produced In Bed
The Bedroom Beat-Maker John Summit‘s rise to Dance music superstardom is as unconventional as it is inspiring. He recently opened up about a handful of topics on Rolling Stone. As he gears up for a set at one of Las Vegas’ hottest nightclubs, you’d expect him to be in the midst of an electrifying pre-show ritual. Instead, he’s lounging in bed, eating an airport sandwich, and crafting what could be House music’s next big hit. “I try to make a new song for every set“, says Summit. Remarkably, most of his music comes to life from the comfort of his bed. From CPA To EDM Phenomenon Summit’s journey began in the Chicago suburbs, where he fell in love with House music in the city’s vibrant nightlife scene. While attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he started DJing at bars, small clubs, and fraternity parties. After graduating, he briefly worked as a certified public accountant but quickly realized his passion for music far outweighed his interest in finance. “I was definitely let go from my job“, Summit admits, laughing. His dedication to music led him to relentlessly send demos to labels, eventually catching the attention of Defected Records with his track ‘Deep End‘. The Road To Viral Hits Summit’s persistence paid off, leading to a series of successes, including a remix of Kx5’s ‘Escape‘ and his viral hit ‘Where You Are‘ featuring Hayla. The track dominated the EDM scene, playing at festivals worldwide and securing a spot in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. Summit and Hayla have since collaborated on ‘Shiver,’ a precursor to his eagerly anticipated debut album. “My original sound was Tech House, so there’ll be that on the album, and then I kind of got into trance-y sounds with ‘Where You Are’ and progressive sounds“, Summit explains. Balancing Fame and Real Life Despite his skyrocketing career, John Summit remains grounded. He’s known for his candid online presence and his ability to connect with fans. However, he navigates fame with a clear sense of boundaries. “I hate song requests”, he admits. “It makes me feel like a jukebox”. As he prepares for his headlining set at Madison Square Garden, Summit reflects on his journey. “I feel like I’m at the top of the world right now and I love it so much”, he says. His story is a testament to following one’s passion, even if it means starting from bed. Be sure to check out the original Rolling Stone interview, here.
