Elements Festival Overcomes Hurricane Debby to Deliver Spectacular Experience
Despite facing the formidable challenge of Hurricane Debby, which forced the cancellation of its first full day of programming, Elements Music & Arts Festival delivered with resilience and spirit in 2024. Spread across four days and nights, the festival turned what could have been a major setback into a testament to the power of the dance music community. Elements kicked off with a Thursday pre-party featuring two of its four stages. The Air Stage hosted a takeover from the beloved Desert Hearts with sets from co-founders Porky, Marbs, Lee Reynolds and Mikey Lion. In similar fashion, the Water Stage hosted a Memory Palace takeover featuring performances by Player Dave, FLY, LYNY and founder Of The Trees, the lattermost of whom was named to the EDM.com Class of 2024. Of The Trees performing at Elements 2024.Lo Morrell Festival-goers got a taste of what was to come, but the weather had other plans. With Hurricane Debby making her presence known, Friday’s conditions deteriorated to the point of complete cancellation. No one could enter the festival's grounds and those attempting to arrive were rightly turned away for their own safety—a difficult call, but a necessary one considering the grounds were in no condition to accommodate camping attendees. Friday night's headliners took matters into their own hands, bringing the party to Elements' sound camps. This is a separate group camping area that uniquely encourages attendees to create their own stages for afterparty sets. Those that braved the rain were lucky enough to stumble across renegade sets from Tape B, INZO, Boogie T and others from Friday’s lineup. And by the time Saturday rolled around, the energy was naturally as electric as the storm itself. Lo Morell The festival's grounds, once battered by the storm, had been revived by Elements' hardworking staff. We could finally immerse ourselves in everything the festival had to offer. That included four elementally-themed mainstages, the Disco Den, Fun Box, roaming performances and even a speakeasy hidden through a porta-potty upon which festival-goers could stumble. Lo Morell Major b2b sets added to the festival's allure in 2024. AC Slater and Chris Lorenzo’s Fly With Us threw down on Saturday, building on the energy from Dr. Fresch’s set and leading perfectly into SLANDER's rip-roaring close of the Fire Stage. More standout b2b sets followed on Sunday, like VNSSA and Nala's Girl Math and a high-energy closing set from Chris Lake and Cloonee. Before the final evening, we were all invited to join LSDREAM for a much-needed respite with LIGHTCODE, the producer's sound bath meditation experience. It allowed attendees to recharge and reflect while an unfamiliar yet comfortable silence swept the grounds. Andrew Rauner Ready to take on the day, it took no time for the music and energy to bubble back to life. Those who wandered over to the Water Stage were lucky enough to catch a secret "Elements Legends DnB Set" featuring none other than Barclay Crenshaw. Anyone who has caught a set by Claude VonStroke's bass music alias might have guessed that he would be the one delivering the gas—no brakes—to kick off the final evening. As Elements Festival came to its climactic close, attendees had the luxury of choosing their final set from a stellar lineup of closing acts: Sara Landry, Subtronics, Chris Lake b2b Cloonee, or an ethereal Bob Moses’ club set. Each offered a unique vibe, ensuring that everyone could find their perfect ending to this weekend full of surprises. In the end, Elements 2024 proved that even in the face of nature’s fury, the show can and will go on. We were left with stories of resilience, community and incredible music that we won't soon forget. You can keep a pulse on Elements and register for updates on its 2025 edition here. Porter Robinson's World Tour Is a Career Retrospective Inspired by Taylor Swift's "Eras"
Porter Robinson's musical evolution is taking center stage in his first-ever world tour, which he says echoes the career-spanning nature of Taylor Swift's historic "Eras Tour." The tour takes its name from his stunning SMILE! :D album, which released in late-July. Robinson today revealed the tour's setlist via Apple Music, with whom he opened up about his approach. "What's going to be insanely joyous for me to play onstage?" he said. "What if I went as a fan of Porter right now? What would be the ultimate experience?" Robinson then said he's planning "a bit of an Eras Tour," developing a career retrospective in the vein of Swift's record-breaking run. "Eras" in late-2023 became the highest-grossing tour of all-time after surpassing $1 billion in revenue. Porter Robinson.c/o Press The influential producer and singer-songwriter will perform most of SMILE! :D before taking fans on a nostalgic trip through 2014's prized debut album, Worlds, and 2021's scintillating follow-up, Nurture. The performances will close with the deeply personal SMILE! :D cut "Russian Roulette," which Robinson called his favorite song from the record. "It's this three-minute, far-off-the-mic, emo-acoustic buildup that leads into this crazy trance drop at the end," he explained. "I just feel like ending the show with that is going to be this absolute catharsis explosion." As Robinson prepares to take his fans through his own musical odyssey, anticipation is building for a show that could redefine indie-electronic performances, much like Swift's tour has done for pop concerts. "I think this would be a really good first Porter show to go see, to be honest," he added. "I think anybody who’s going to see me for the first time, who’s maybe only familiar with one of the albums, will walk away from this show with three or four more new favorites and be like, 'Oh, my God. I’ve got to go back and listen to that.'" Fans can check out the full setlist via Apple Music and purchase tickets to the "SMILE! :D" tour here. Creamfields Entry Delayed Due To Stormy Weather
Music Festivals have been taking a beating this year. The weather has wreaked havoc on festivals including Ultra Miami, Electric Forest, Elements, Bass Canyon, and more. Now we can add Creamfields to the list of those that have delayed opening due to stormy weather and high winds. Called Storm Lilian, high winds has caused flight cancelations and cut power to hundreds of homes. Yellow warnings for wind are in place on Friday morning and expectations of gusts of up to 80mph. Attendees have been told to sit in their cars and not their tents. They are also not letting in anyone as of Friday morning until the winds have calmed down. Tents have been seen flying away. The Leeds Festival stated on X that it would be unable to open the main arena on time and would not be opening the BBC Radio 1 or Aux stages at all on Friday. According to meteorologists, the high winds should pass by nighttime and the rest of the weekend should be a success. This year’s lineup includes ARTBAT, Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris, CamelPhat, Eric Prydz, Franky Wah, Gorgon City, John Summit, Meduza, Pete Tong, Solomun, Tiësto and many more Weather at Creamfields North today. OutKast File Trademark Infringement Lawsuit Against ATLiens: Report
André 3000 and Big Boi, who comprise the iconic hip-hop duo OutKast, have launched a trademark infringement lawsuit against the electronic music duo ATLiens, Billboard reports. The masked, anonymous bass music tandem share a name with OutKast's sophomore album, ATLiens, which released in 1996 via LaFace Records and Arista Records. "The word ATLiens was invented by OutKast," according to the suit. "Before OutKast created it, it was not used in the cultural lexicon and did not exist. Defendant's use of the ATLiens mark is likely to cause confusion, to cause mistake, or to deceive the public." The electronic music duo ATLiens.Alive Coverage The album's titular track remains one of OutKast's most popular songs, receiving over 186 million streams on Spotify at the time of this writing. The record is "one of OutKast’s most well-known and well-regarded songs," according to the lawsuit, which also rebukes ATLiens' repeated performances of the song during their DJ sets. André 3000 and Big Boi have also taken aim at ATLiens' signature masks, which the lawsuit claims leads to confusion surrounding the two groups' identities. OutKast's legal team reportedly attempted to "negotiate an amicable resolution to the dispute," but ATLiens continued to use the name "in confusing ways." "The duo comprising defendant performs with masks on, thereby concealing their identities such that consumers will mistakenly believe that the members of Defendant are one and the same with—or at least somehow connected to—plaintiff," per Outkast's lawyers. ATLiens have not publicly commented on the lawsuit at the time of this writing.

Louis The Child Announce New Album, Drop Lead Single With Whethan, "Make You Mine"
Louis The Child are once again ready to bring the warmth of endless summer days to dancefloors with their newly announced album, The Sun Comes Up. Dropping on September 20th via Interscope, their highly anticipated sophomore album promises to encapsulate the carefree yet poignant sound that has long-defined the duo for the better part of a decade. The announcement comes hand-in-hand with the release of its lead single, "Make You Mine." The track effortlessly intertwines infectious house rhythms with the complex feelings of longing and devotion. Aided by longtime collaborator Whethan and infused with the enchanting vocals of Hayley May, "Make You Mine" is a celebration of emotional connection through music. The superstar duo's reunion with Whethan follows their previous collaborative bout, "Hurts" alongside Wafia way back in 2019. "Make You Mine" unfurls with spirited vocals that echo sentiments of desire—feelings that are amplified by the track’s prominently punchy bassline. The production excels through its simplicity, with pitched-down vocal chops and a syncopated rhythm that gives the song its driving force. The result is a love anthem that's both introspective and irresistibly danceable. Louis The Child and Whethan first crossed paths in the vibrant Chicago music scene nearly a decade ago and since that time, they've shared a creative synergy that continues to evolve. "We've known Whethan for almost 10 years now and came up around the same time in Chicago," Louis The Child said in a press release shared with EDM.com. "We shared a studio back then and moved to L.A. around the same time to continue our pursuit of music... He's someone we look at as a brother, and getting to release another song with him is really special." Fans can pre-save The Sun Comes Up now. Get Lost In Mystic State's Chilling Soundscapes With New EP, "Yozakura"
Mystic State continue to push the boundaries of bass music in their new EP, Yozakura. In the four-track EP, the Bristol-based production duo curate a stunning exploration of sound while staying true to their authentic style. The release arrives via Chord Marauders, an imprint they say has "helped inspire and shape [their] sound than perhaps any other record label out there." They begin with "Xoyo," where haunting melodies immerse us in Mystic State's spine-chilling universe. The illusory track, which Mystic State called one of their favorite pieces of music they've ever produced, evokes the feeling of exploring uncharted territory in our dreams. Entering into "Yozakura," a sense of tranquility and curiosity overwhelms the senses as expertly-woven layers of synths and percussive elements throb with palpable depth. "The Perfection" immediately captures our attention with punchy drums and an enthralling beat. Its vocal sample tugs at the heartstrings before giving way to a poignant breakdown, showcasing the duo's uncanny ability to bottle nostalgia in their soundscapes. Distorted voices and the sounds of human commotion usher in the EP's final song, "What We Have." The track's deep basslines build to a soothing voice that monologues themes of togetherness and gratitude. Mystic State then hit us with a clean breakdown of rich percussion, weaving a narrative of thankfulness and shared emotion. "This is our Yozakura EP, which we believe to be a true reflection of where our sound is at currently," the duo wrote on Instagram. "Hopefully there’s something on this EP for every one of you." A Fragmented Mind Finds Its Glue In BERNZIKIAL's Bass-Heavy EP, "Shattered Reflections"
A fragmented mind finds its glue in Shattered Reflections, the new EP from BERNZIKIAL. Out now on Bear Grillz's Rude Service imprint, the five-track EP is a captivating sonic collage that blends the driving energy of dubstep and riddim with intricate, textured melodies. The Orlando-based producer masterfully weaves together these disparate elements, creating a listening experience that's both visceral and evocative. He demonstrates a keen ear for sonic detail throughout, crafting intricate yet heavy-hitting tracks that reward close listening. Synths shimmer and glitch, percussion patterns interlock in hypnotic fashion, and the low end hits with a gut-punching force. The titular track of Shattered Reflections sets the tone with a haunting intro, where a sample of a conversation between partners in a deteriorating relationship mirrors the tempestuous future bass sounds in the drop. Elsewhere in the EP, he produces dark Wave music in "Thinking of You," which feels like a sonic exploration of fragmented identity. That search for meaning amid the chaos of modern life is key, according to BERNZIKIAL, who says he has struggled with suicidal thoughts. "Mental health is a deeply personal and sensitive subject for me, as I'm sure it is for many others who have faced similar struggles," he tells EDM.com. "I've been in dark places and have tried to end it all multiple times, but I came to realize that I'm still here for a reason. That reason, for me, is to share my story through my art and to create meaningful, transformative experiences with my music and performances." Shattered Reflections is out now to align with BERNZIKIAL's upcoming performance at Orlando's Tavern East, where he will headline a charity fundraiser for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). All proceeds will benefit the organization's efforts to raise awareness of mental health issues. "Although mental health is gaining more attention each year, I’ve noticed that in the music industry, it still doesn't get the consistent focus it deserves," he adds. "I believe it's not enough to just acknowledge it for a month—we need to keep these conversations going, especially in spaces where it's often overlooked. My goal is to contribute to that dialogue and encourage others to do the same." BERNZIKIAL is set for a special 360° performance at the show, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 24th. Diplo & Mau P Unveil Genre-Bending New Collab, ‘Receipts’
Today, Diplo and international house sensation Mau P have delivered a collaborative new single, ‘Receipts,’ featuring acclaimed rapper Gunna. The genre-defying track harnesses the essence of each artist’s individual style, delivering a new sound uniquely in a category of its own. The result of several sessions preparing for their b2b set at Coachella earlier this year, ‘Receipts’ signaled the onset of an authentic personal and creative partnership for Diplo and Mau P. The pair first unleashed the track during the four-hour performance, marking not only Mau P’s Coachella debut and the duo’s first b2b but also the first time the collaborators met in person. ‘Receipts’ has since become a fixture in both artists’ individual sets around the world. “‘Receipts’ came to life as Wes and I were preparing for our b2b Coachella set which was also my debut performance at the festival. We had been talking for hours about music and our various influences, after which Wes asked me the obvious question – ‘Should we try to create a song together that we can play at Coachella?’ He had recently done a session with Gunna and gave me an acapella to mess around with. One night during Miami Music Week, I came home from a show feeling pretty hyped up, opened my laptop and landed on the first version of this track. From there, Wes and I went back and forth to nail it, and eventually premiered ‘Receipts’ at Coachella.” -Mau P The post Diplo & Mau P Unveil Genre-Bending New Collab, ‘Receipts’ appeared first on EDMTunes.

James Hype Addresses Pre-Recorded Set Debate: Embraces Risk for Authentic Live DJing
The International superstar James Hype has set the record straight on the growing trend of pre-recorded DJ sets at major festivals. Following his one-of-a-kind performance at EDC Orlando, James Hype responded to a Reddit thread here that questioned which DJs were genuinely performing live. Despite industry rumors and statements from fellow artists such as deadmau5 suggesting that pre-recorded sets are common at such events, James Hype made it clear that he has never—and will never—play a pre-recorded set. James Hype’s commitment to live performance is a testament to his dedication to the craft. Known for his intricate transitions, eclectic mashups, and on-the-fly remixes, James Hype consistently pushes the boundaries of what it means to be a live DJ. His refusal to conform to the industry norm of pre-recorded sets is a bold statement in an era where authenticity in live performances is increasingly questioned. This commitment has earned him respect and admiration from fans and peers alike. As one Reddit user put it, “James Hype is a real one. He’s taking all the risks, doing difficult transitions live, showing you his mistakes, and testing out remixes he made traveling at live gigs. Much appreciation for this man’s hustle.” In a past YouTube video posted by James Hype, he not only addresses the misinformation but also highlights his dedication to live DJing. He explains that he embraces the risk of performing live, including making real-time transitions and testing out new remixes in front of audiences. This commitment is central to his identity as an artist and allows transparency in the industry not only for fans but aspiring artists as well. The video has resonated with his global audience, reinforcing James Hype’s reputation as a true performer who values the integrity of live mixing. James Hype has played at some of the world’s biggest festivals, including Tomorrowland, Creamfields, and EDC, always delivering an experience for the masses like no other. His approach to DJing challenges the status quo and sets a high standard for other artists in the industry as James Hype shares: “A few months ago I started to notice a trend: Whenever a video of my DJing went viral, 50% of the comments were from people saying it was fake and that I was a fraud. There seems to be a narrative that all big DJs on big stages are playing pre-recorded sets and I want to break that. I’m trying to deliver a different show every single time and doing stuff that’s actually LIVE, unique, and RISKY is the only way I know how to perform. I saw a video where deadmau5 told his fans that EDC requires all artists to pre-record and it’s just not true, I’ve played all the biggest festivals on all the biggest stages! I think this narrative is damaging for the culture and the new DJs coming up.” As the debate over pre-recorded sets continues, James Hype remains committed to delivering authentic, live performances that resonate with audiences and preserve the true essence of DJing which always leaves fans with the question of “Who Does This?”
