The platform added 6 million premium users, bringing its total to 252 million subscribers. This steady growth, combined with strategic price hikes across several markets, pushed Spotify’s operating profit to 454 million euros ($500 million), marking a 70% increase from Q2. The quarter’s results reveal Spotify’s strength in balancing subscriber growth with a clear path to profit, a feat that investors have been waiting for. After 19 Years, Pitchfork Music Festival Calls It Quits
In a surprising announcement, Pitchfork Music Festival confirmed that it will not be returning to Union Park in 2025, marking the end of its longstanding tradition of almost 19 years in Chicago. The festival, which has been a staple of the city’s summer music scene for almost 2 decades, will not take place leaving the fans and the local community in shock and uncertainty. Pitchfork Music Festival, has showcased a mix of indie rock, electronic, hip hop, and experimental music since its inception in 2006. The festival was normally held over three days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) in July, in Union Park in Chicago, Illinois. Organized by the online magazine Pitchfork. Their lineup for Summer 2024 included artists Alanis Morissette, Carly Rae Jepsen, 100 Gecs, Jai Paul, and Black Pumas. It’s a tough time for many festivals right now with inflation, stricter regulations, growing competition from other festivals, changing audience tastes, and organizing a successful festival is not an easy feat. For now, the future of Pitchfork Music Festival remains uncertain, but organizers have promised to keep fans updated as they work on new initiatives. While the festival will not take place in 2025, the legacy of Pitchfork’s impact on Chicago’s cultural and music scene will undoubtedly continue to resonate for years to come. Bass Forces Unite: ASH HALO x Save Yourself drop ‘Vice Versa’
When your songwriting credits include Excision, Zeds Dead, and NGHTMRE, you could easily rest on your laurels. But ASH HALO – the Canadian duo of Sara and Dave – isn’t here for easy. Their self-released single “Vice Versa,” crafted with fellow northerner Save Yourself, is a genre-blending love letter to electronic music’s endless possibilities. The track weaves reggae warmth through hardstyle punch, wraps melodic bass around trap foundations, and somehow makes it all feel effortless. It’s fitting that a song about relationship dynamics comes from a duo who knows them intimately – Sara and Dave’s partnership, both on and off stage, infuses every moment with lived experience rather than studio calculation. Save Yourself (aka Cody Patzer) proves the perfect collaborator, bringing the same boundary-pushing energy that landed him on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records. Fresh off destroying crowds at Bass Canyon and Lost Lands, ASH HALO’s using this self-release to launch an ambitious monthly release schedule through spring 2025. If “Vice Versa” is any indication, the bass scene better buckle up – this power couple’s just getting started. Aussie hit-maker CYRIL finds pop magic with maryjo
After running airwaves with “Stumblin’ In” and that massive Disturbed remix, Australian wunderkind CYRIL isn’t resting on his 700M-stream laurels. His latest single “Still Into You” pairs his signature electronic flourishes with rising vocal powerhouse maryjo, crafting the kind of cross-genre earworm that feels destined for playlist dominance. Fresh off his debut U.S. tour and riding high from his versatile “To The World” EP, the Darwin-based producer continues to prove why he’s one of Australia’s hottest exports. It’s a remarkable arc for an artist who once nearly abandoned music altogether – but kept his laptop and guitar close, just in case. That persistence paid off: he’s now diamond-selling, ARIA-nominated, and topping Shazam charts in 20 countries. Enter maryjo, the Cleveland native whose journey from shy bedroom singer to social media sensation reads like a modern fairy tale. Her raw vocal talent – which earned her a duet with Jewel and 14M global streams – gives “Still Into You” its emotional anchor. The track perfectly balances CYRIL’s dynamic production with maryjo’s soul-stirring delivery, creating something that feels both radio-ready and refreshingly authentic. Marshmello Shares Preview of Unreleased Collaboration With Juice WRLD
In a moment that felt like a time capsule straight from 2019, Marshmello has previewed a never-before-heard collaboration with the late Juice WRLD live on Kai Cenat’s streaming channel. The unreleased track marks another poignant chapter in Marshmello and Juice WRLD's enduring collaborative legacy. Mello explained to Cenat during the stream that in late 2019, just days before the rapper's tragic passing, the two had planned to shoot a music video for "Come & Go," a track that would ultimately become a global hit. That song recently hit a major milestone by joining Spotify's billion-stream club. Now, nearly five years later, his latest unreleased preview with the "Lucid Dreams" wordsmith serves as yet another reminder of the close bond shared by the superstar artists. "Come & Go," along with tracks like "Bye Bye" and "Hate The Other Side," have been cemented as cornerstones of Juice WRLD's cross-genre legacy. Hearing more unreleased music adds a layer of bittersweet nostalgia, a reminder of the talent that was lost too soon—and of how his music lives on. Check out the clip from Cenat's stream below. R3HAB reinvents Bag Raiders ‘Shooting Stars’ with Mufasa & Hypeman and RANI
Bag Raiders’ “Shooting Stars” was already a certified dance classic before the internet got its hands on it – a euphoric slice of electronic perfection that proved some tracks are simply timeless. Now Dutch-Moroccan producer R3HAB, whose own streaming numbers clock in at a staggering 11 billion, has given this beloved anthem a 2024 renaissance, powered by Mufasa & Hypeman’s magnetic energy and RANI’s soaring vocals. While the original found new life through viral fame, R3HAB’s take reminds us why the track captured imaginations in the first place. His signature production – the same touch that’s earned him collabs with Rihanna and Taylor Swift – amplifies the original’s dreamy synths and infectious groove. Mufasa & Hypeman, fresh off their own billion-stream success, inject pure joy into the mix, while RANI (whose vocals have graced tracks by David Guetta and Jonas Blue) adds a soulful dimension that feels both fresh and faithful. Released through R3HAB’s CYB3RPVNK label, this isn’t just a remix – it’s a celebration of dance music’s ability to evolve while keeping its heart intact. “Believe (Shooting Stars)” proves that great tracks never really die; they just wait for the right moment to soar again. ‘Dead Man Walking Pt. 2’: Zomboy’s latest EP is Bass Warfare
The dead don’t just walk – they absolutely demolish everything in their path. Zomboy’s “Dead Man Walking Pt. 2” EP isn’t just a follow-up; it’s a five-track nuclear assault that proves the UK bass architect hasn’t lost an ounce of that face-melting energy that gave us “Terror Squad” and “Like A Bitch.” Opening with “Fallout” (aptly named for the destruction it’s about to cause), Zomboy reminds us why he went from drumming in metal bands to becoming dubstep royalty. The EDDIE collab “D.E.A.D.” hits like a video game boss fight gone rogue, while “Project Z” serves up the kind of grimy, mechanical mayhem that’ll have ravers questioning their life choices – in the best way possible. Now heading up his own Rott N’ Roll Records (after that legendary run with Never Say Die), Zomboy’s evolution from SoundCloud demos to 750M streams hasn’t dulled his teeth. This EP doesn’t just bang – it’s surgical in its savagery. That closing track “Inhumation” might offer a deceptively cinematic breather, but make no mistake: this is Zomboy at his most lethal, proving once again why he’s been terrorizing festival stages from Ministry of Sound to EDC Vegas. The dead man isn’t just walking – he’s stomping the yard. The post ‘Dead Man Walking Pt. 2’: Zomboy’s latest EP is Bass Warfare appeared first on Dancing Astronaut.

Third Culture teams up with Hiroko Yamamura on “She’s Evil” with Detroit legend DJ Minx
Third Culture just dropped the kind of track that makes genre purists clutch their pearls – and that’s exactly the point. “She’s Evil,” their new collaboration with Chicago techno maverick Hiroko Yamamura, isn’t here to play nice with your expectations. The duo – Sian and Sacha Robotti – have crafted something deliciously twisted: a bass-heavy fever dream that’s equal parts playful funk and dark room delirium. But wait – they’ve also enlisted Detroit royalty DJ Minx for remix duties. Fresh off curating her own stage at Movement and dropping heat on Diplo’s Higher Ground, the First Lady of Wax brings her signature analog grit to the proceedings. This isn’t just a remix; it’s a masterclass from someone who’s been reshaping dance music since the early ’90s. The track lands via Octopus Recordings with perfect timing. While Third Culture’s been busy collecting co-signs from Solomun (who handed them an 8000-capacity LA debut) and dropping EPs on Maceo Plex’s Lone Romantic, Yamamura’s been holding down Chicago’s underground at Spybar and Soundbar, bringing her sci-fi-meets-techno vision to the masses. It’s a collision of scenes and sounds that shouldn’t work on paper – but that’s exactly why it slaps so hard on the dancefloor. Alesso Pays Touching Tribute To Liam Payne at EDC Orlando
The world has been grieving the passing of former One Direction Member, the singer and songwriter Liam Payne. Taking a moment during his set at Insomniac‘s EDC Orlando last Sunday, legendary Swedish DJ/Producer Alesso paid a touching tribute to his late friend. Both artists had deveolped a friendship recently. However, it all grew exponentially back in 2019 and the release of their collaboration, ‘Midnight.’ Tribute Alesso spoke directly to attendees on his personal relationship with the One Direction star. Moreover, just before he played their track ‘Midnight’ in Liam Payne’s memory, he voiced a soft and gentle message on the passing of his friend and colleague: “the world has now lost a very talented musician, human being, and a dear friend of mine.” Alesso Alesso requested the crowd to turn on their lights whilst Liam Payne’s vocals echoed on Circuit Grounds. The singer’s image appeared at large on the EDC Orlando stage. Alesso wished for his tribute to reach everyone in the audience, with the love pouring in its entirety all throughout this highly emotional moment that was shared between Alesso and the crowd at the time, and now with all of us. Darby drops the ‘Party’ EP – a four dose hit of UK garage
Darby’s ‘PARTY’ EP arrives like a glitter bomb in a therapy session – a four-track exploration of what happens when club euphoria crashes into late-night existential crisis. The Australian producer, already catching cosigns from Skrillex and remixing for ODESZA, refuses to let us just mindlessly fist-pump our way through his latest NIGHTMODE release. Sure, the tracks bang – “TRUST” with Britt Lari and the OOTORO collab “PARTY” are engineered to detonate on festival stages. But beneath the UKG rhythms and bass house thunder, Darby’s playing psychiatrist to the sweaty masses. “FLOW” and “AUTOPILOT” featuring ÊMIA dive into those 3 AM moments when the lights hit different and you’re questioning every life choice that led you to this dancefloor. At 24, Darby’s already got releases on Ninja Tune, Monstercat, and Bitbird under his belt, but this hits different. While his contemporaries are content making generic festival fodder, he’s out here turning Y2K nostalgia and club dynamics into sonic case studies. ‘PARTY’ isn’t just an EP – it’s what happens when your therapist starts spinning UK garage. The couch is optional, but dancing isn’t. The post Darby drops the ‘Party’ EP – a four dose hit of UK garage appeared first on Dancing Astronaut.

Panamanian rebel Gian Varela releases his powerful and appropriately titled new track “Revolution,” for which he teamed up with Grammy-winning songwriter and vocalist Cor.Ece. The Latin House-influenced spoken-word heater is also the very first release on Varela‘s own label Monarka Records, marking a huge milestone in his musical career. “Revolution” certainly comes at an appropriate time not just for the US, but for the world, with its powerful vocals by Cor.Ece and strong associated messages, all tied together with percussive kick drums and a driving bassline. With this release, Gian Varela sets the bar high for Monarka Records as a home of diverse, globally influenced, and carefully cultivated people, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. “Having a label has always been a goal in my career. It’s not just to release my own music that I feel fits with this style of Latin house, but I also wanted to create a community through our music and the events I would throw around the world that could encompass the energy of Monarka. It’s an elegant, sophisticated, yet powerful vision of a label and a home for Latin house with no limits or boundaries. We want records that carry ‘attitude,’ which can be showcased on the dance floor. ‘Revolution,’ my first release on Monarka, and the label’s first release, on which I worked with the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Cor.Ece. As the title suggests, the track conveys a strong message behind it.” – Gian Varela Gian Valera Gian Varela‘s journey from a Latin Dance Music sensation in Central America to a globally celebrated House DJ and producer has been nothing short of remarkable. His artistic mission has taken him deeper into the global house culture, resulting in the evolution of his sound. Gian Varela‘s sound delves between Latin House and Tech House, fused with Latin/Afro drums and rave-guided synthesis. The result: a sophisticated yet revolutionary, high-energy sound familiar to underground culture, yet ready to captivate the masses. Gian has made his presence in eminent festivals worldwide, including Tomorrowland Winter, Ultra Miami & Abu Dhabi, Beyond Wonderland & EDC Mexico. He has also toured prestigious nightclubs around the world like Liv Miami, Exchange Amsterdam, E11EVEN Miami, Marquee New York City, Privilege Ibiza, and Fusion Shanghai. Armed with his unique sound within House Music and his passion: Gian promises a continued rise as he evolves within the electronic music landscape. Cor.Ece Cor.Ece is a whole vibe. The LA-based vocalist and songwriter recently exploded onto the scene through an incendiary collaboration with Honey Dijon on her Defected singles “Unleash” and “Work,” and on a Grammy-winning songwriting team for Beyoncé‘s “Cozy” from her groundbreaking 2022 album Renaissance. Cor.Ece delivers his own unique musical statement with his solo debut on RNT, the “Dance To Keep From Crying” EP. Produced by JKriv, the lead-off single “Possibly Impossible” fuses airy and expansive vocal soundscapes with a certifiably infectious hook and shows Cor. Ece‘s dynamism as a performer and songwriter. In 2023, you can find Cor.Ece directing and starring in “Stand” a “smoldering and poetic” dance anthem for all times. 2024 brings together all new energy with a new album by Cor.Ece and Bad Colours, “Been Here Before” released on the esteemed label Bastard Jazz with lead single “Jeans’ and ‘Mars,” featuring Life on Planets.
