  1. A woman has passed away at Burning Man after being discovered unresponsive on Sunday morning. Burning Man officials reported that she was found unresponsive at 11:29 a.m., and despite efforts by emergency services to revive her, they were unsuccessful, according to a statement from the organization. Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen stated that his deputies were informed of the situation and responded, receiving notice of her death at 11:37 a.m. The sheriff’s office noted that the death is under investigation, with the cause and manner to be determined following an autopsy. The woman’s identity and age have not been released as authorities work to notify her next of kin. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased,” the sheriff’s office said. “This is the first death reported on the playa this year, and unfortunately, it occurred on the first day,” Allen added. Burning Man also expressed condolences in a similar statement and mentioned that counseling services are available for those in need. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this loss,” Burning Man’s statement said. The annual festival began early Sunday morning after being delayed for 12 hours due to rain and muddy conditions. Law enforcement reported that approximately 20,000 people were already present on the playa before the gates reopened. Burning Man will continue until September 2. Although attendance was predicted to be lower this year, organizers still anticipate over 70,000 attendees. Reno Tahoe International Airport noted that Sunday would be its busiest day in two decades, largely due to the influx of people attending Burning Man. Our deepest condolences go out to the woman’s family and friends. H/T : RGJ The post Burning Man Attendee Dies on First Day appeared first on EDMTunes.
  2. Just a month after inviting deadmau5 for a special performance, the Momentary is gearing up to host his Kx5 counterpart, Kaskade, for yet another impressive open-air set. The dance music superstar is gearing up to land in Bentonville, Arkansas on September 27th for a show presented as part of the Momentary’s "Live on the Green" concert series. The picturesque venue will make for a stunning backdrop for Kaskade, who is fresh off the release of "Tears Don’t Fall," which had been one of his most highly anticipated singles. And as the start of the 2024 NFL season looms, who could forget Kaskade's monumental performance at Super Bowl LVIII in February, when he became the first in-game DJ in the game's history? He's now poised to bring that same stadium-filling energy to the dazzling open-air venue in Downtown Bentonville. Tickets for Kaskade's performance at the Momentary are available now. An extension of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Momentary has cemented itself as a premier hub for music and culture within the city since its doors opened back in early 2020. Since their "Live on the Green" series launched in April, the team behind the series has already hosted performances by Jon Batiste, John Legend, Portugal. The Man and more, with forthcoming shows including the likes of TLC and Shaggy, Gary Clark Jr. and Omar Apollo. Find out more about Kaskade’s headlining performance at the Momentary here.

The Pershing County Sheriff’s office investigates all deaths that occur in its jurisdiction." The woman's cause of death is under investigation, pending the results of an autopsy. Her name and age are being withheld until next of kin can be notified, according to Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen. Burning Man Project says its Black Rock Rangers—veteran "Burners" who help participants and staff throughout the event—are available to provide peer support services at Ranger HQ (5:45 & Esplanade) and Outposts (behind the 3:00 and 9:00 Plazas). 6. MORTEN is recovering after his immune system shut down following a performance, the DJ announced today. In a post shared to Instagram, the Danish electronic music star said his health "took a turn" when his body started shaking after a performance on August 18th. He needed to be airlifted by helicopter to the Mediterraneo Hospital in Athens, where he ultimately stayed for a period of five days. MORTEN, who says his "immune system was basically at zero," contracted Astrovirus, a common form of stomach flu, and an E. coli bacteria infection, which can cause diarrhea, pneumonia, sepsis, urinary tract diseases and other illnesses. The severity of his condition has led him to cancel scheduled performances for the first time in his career. MORTEN in the month of August had performed in Spain, Malta, France and Austria, among other countries. He's also been traveling to the island of Ibiza for DJ sets alongside David Guetta every Friday at the famed Hï club, where the duo holds a "Future Rave" residency. "Despite having a healthy diet and working out every day, touring so much and an accumulated lack of sleep will hit you at one point," he wrote. "I was diagnosed with Epec and Astrovirus and needed to take some time off to recover, which unfortunately also means I had to cancel shows for the first time in my career. I was really excited to come and play for you all this past week and am really gutted I couldn’t make it. This week of rest and good care by the nurses and doctors has allowed me to come back stronger and I can’t wait to see you all out there again." View the original article to see embedded media. At the time of this writing, MORTEN has not announced when he will return to touring. His fellow DJs and dance music contemporaries are currently reaching out in droves with messages of support. "Praying for you brother," Laidback Luke said. "For people who see this comment: I’m writing this as I’m laying in bed all day, recovering from my 2 shows from the weekend. My 1 day off has become holy to me." "Bro. Take it easy and get the rest your mind and body need," added Kaskade. Fans can stay up-to-date on MORTEN's tour via his official website. 11. This is certainly better than the time Apple forced a U2 album on everyone's iPhones. The latest series from Twenty Thousand Hertz, a podcast that shares the stories behind some of the world's most iconic sounds, focuses on the sounds featured in Apple's products like the iPhone and Apple Watch. And in one particularly illuminating episode, the podcast revealed that two ringtones released in 2019 were secretly created by Flying Lotus. Released in 2019 as a part of iOS 13, Flying Lotus' ringtones "Daybreak" and "Chalet" have been available to all iPhone users. The influential producer recalled how he was surprised at the offer initially, but prepared considering he'd made custom ringtones for himself in the past. He described the sounds as nostalgic and "a bit ambient," but strong enough to galvanize you to check your phone without being harsh. 13. After a typically busy build week in the Nevada desert, the citizens of Black Rock City are gearing up for another life-changing experience at Burning Man, which kicked off today. Although the event failed to sell out for the first time in a decade, the anticipation remains sky-high with regard to all of the amazing art, music, connections and experiences on the playa this year. The same goes for BRC's beloved sound camps, many of which revealed impressive lineups. Perhaps the most highly anticipated sound camp lineup comes from Galaxyer, which will debut for the first time at Burning Man 2024. The team behind the treasured Mayan Warrior art car, which tragically burned down in 2023, shared a heartfelt message to the Burning Man community in early August before releasing a jaw-dropping lineup featuring Carl Cox, Adan Ten, RÜFÜS DU SOL (DJ set) and more. Galaxyer will be located around 2:30 & J from 4-8pm, with mezcal drinks served at their downtempo bar. The Maxa art car also has big plans for Burning Man. This stunning art car, featuring a deer's head with antlers that shoot fire, will host a massive lineup this year. Catch Dennis Cruz b2b WhoMadeWho, Monolink (live), RÜFÜS DU SOL (DJ set) and many, many more. Maxa is due to link up with Galaxyer for a legendary collaboration on Monday, September 1st. The Playground is bringing the heat once again this year with a top-tier selection of music across two stages: the Dune Lounge and the Arrival Stage. Their stacked lineup includes Vintage Culture, Adam Ten b2b Mita Gami, Diplo, Carl Cox and, of course, some very special surprise guests. If you're looking for a proper Burning Man get-down, look no further than Opulent Temple, which has been bringing big sound to the playa for over a decade. Their 2024 lineup includes Infected Mushroom (live PA and DJ set), Mau P, Max Styler and many more. They're also hosting a second stage called Opulent Chill for a more ambient experience. Opulent Temple is located at 2:00 and Esplanade this year. One of the playa's most legendary art cars, Robot Heart, shared a teaser post featuring artist fill-in-the-blanks, accompanied by each of Burning Man's 10 Principles to stir excitement over their hotly anticipated 2024 lineup. Only time will tell which acts they've booked, but DJs including Anyma, Adam Ten, Vintage Culture and more have showed support in the post comments. Be sure to keep an eye on Camp Questionmark, BRC's iconic bass music camp. They recently posted and deleted a stacked lineup including Griz, who could be temporarily emerging from his hiatus for a rare performance on the playa alongside Diplo, Louis The Child, FLY and more. Some additional sound camps to pay attention to this year include Titanic's End, with sets by Girl Math (Nala b2b VNSSA), Tokimonsta b2b Diplo, ACRAZE and more, as well as Fluffy Cloud, featuring Kream, Diplo b2b Shizma, Vintage Culture and more. Plus, Horizon tapped Nala, VNSSA and Justin Martin, among others. While the music at Burning Man 2024 is sure to contribute to a magical week in the Nevada desert, the array of theme camp activations, workshops, discussions, art installations and the magnificent Man and Temple builds will also captivate. After a recent surprise live performance from Hayley at their Sammy & George’s LoveJuice Ibiza residency, every Saturday at Ibiza Rocks, the response online almost deemed it inevitable to see a full release, quickly finding its home on 3 Beat Records. 15. Tom & Collins and AMÉMÉ met at the end of last year to work on their tune for Insomniac Records, “Ando High,” which was a celebration of their shared cultural roots. It mixed the first artist’s Latin sounds with the second artist’s Afro-house sounds perfectly. The single is now getting a new start on life thanks to remixes by Bora Uzer, Jesús Fernández, and even the two big names themselves (VIP mix). I’ve always liked the song ‘Ando High,’ and I wanted to make a version of it in my Afro style. I chose to send it to Tom & Collins because they’ve always been nice to me and helped me a lot with everything. It was fun to work on this, and I’m glad it can be added to the original remix. – Jesús Fernández To end things on a high note, producer duo Tom & Collins from Mexico City and AMÉMÉ from Brooklyn get together again to give their hit song the VIP treatment. The new version has been improved and stripped down. The main melodic theme has been pushed to the background so that the percussion can shine. Swinging drum hits and a rich matrix of deep, afro-inspired elements support the hypnotic vocal hook. With the official release of “Ando High (Remixes),” Tom & Collins and AMÉMÉ take their unique collaboration to a whole new level. It’s packed full of reworks that will keep people dancing at festivals and in clubs. Tom & Collins, AMÉMÉ new ‘Ando High (Remixes) is available on all platforms via Insomniac Records. 18. What should never have happened again happened again. What was meant to be a joyous free festival for the community of Solingen, Germany, quickly turned into a scene of horror as a knife-wielding attacker went on a stabbing spree. Three dead and eight injured. German DJ and producer Topic found himself at the center of a music festival terror attack. This happened on the 650th anniversary celebration of his hometown Solingen on Friday night (23rd of August, 2024). Topic, who was performing at the event, recounted the surreal experience. The city security personnel asked him to continue playing while the events unfolded to prevent mass panic. They came to me and asked me to please continue playing to avoid causing a mass panic, as there were already people killed by a stabbing attacker – Topic Despite the incredibly difficult circumstances, Topic carried on with his set for another 10-15 minutes in the most professional way, before the music was finally stopped and attendees were informed of the incident. The attacker, who reportedly targeted victims’ necks indiscriminately, was still at large as the situation unfolded. Topic and others sought refuge in a nearby store while police helicopters circled overhead, searching for the suspect. I still can’t believe it… this was supposed to be a free festival for everyone. Really close friends of mine were there with their small kids. – Topic The festival, which was expected to draw around 75,000 people over three days, has been canceled. But, what happened to the attacker? As of Saturday evening, German police had arrested a man suspected of carrying out the stabbings. The suspect reportedly turned himself in, ending an intense manhunt that included raids on a local refugee center. Topic ends his statement with “My thoughts are with all the victims.” The post DJ Topic Plays On During Festival Attack in Solingen and Share Story appeared first on The Groove Cartel.

  21. An Overview: What Makes Splash House Special Splash House, the beloved poolside music festival in Palm Springs, once again delivered two back-to-back weekends of sun-soaked fun, electrifying music, and endless good vibes. Hosted at three iconic venues—The Renaissance, Margaritaville, and The Saguaro—this festival merges the best of electronic, house, and disco music with the unique charm of Palm Springs. Whether you’re floating in the pool, dancing at the after-hours Air Museum parties, or roaming between venues, Splash House offers an intimate, yet thrilling experience that sets it apart from other festivals. Felicia Garcia for Splash House Weekend One: Gorgon City, Green Velvet, and Rowdy Revelry The first weekend of Splash House was nothing short of spectacular. With the Renaissance as my personal favorite venue, and The Saguaro coming in a close second, the vibe was just right. The festival layout is cozy enough to feel intimate, with three venues allowing you to roam freely without the overwhelming crowds you find at larger events—at least until the end of the day when things really start to heat up. Highlights from weekend one included the epic back-to-back set from Gorgon City and Green Velvet, which brought the house down with their unique blend of beats. Friday night’s pre-party, Fly with Us, featuring AC Slater and Chris Lorenzo, was nothing short of insane. The Air Museum, with its vintage airplanes and the desert night sky as a backdrop, remains one of the most unique and exhilarating places to party. Felicia Garcia for Splash House Brandon Denlsey for Splash House Brandon Denlsey for Splash House Julian Bajsel for Splash House While Margaritaville was a fantastic venue, some attendees experienced issues with the AC breaking down, leading to discomfort for those staying there. However, the SH organizers quickly responded by offering new accommodations and refunds, ensuring that everyone could still enjoy their weekend. It’s worth noting that the crowd during the first weekend was a bit rowdier than usual, likely due to the high-energy lineup that brought out a more excitable bunch. But that’s part of the fun—certain flavors of house music just have that effect, and the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Weekend Two: John Summit, Air Museum, and Renaissance Revelry Weekend two kicked off with an incredible opening party by John Summit. Nala, who opened for him, did an impeccable job setting the stage, but it was Summit’s insatiable beats that truly set the tone for an unforgettable weekend. Julian Bajsel for Splash House Day One The Renaissance proved to be my home base for most of the weekend, and with good reason. Day one started strong with a killer set from Manics, an LA-based duo known for their blend of indie dance, dark disco, and melodic techno. They brought the heat, and set the bar high for the rest of the weekend. Moon Boots and Girl Math—VNSSA b2b Nala—kept the vibes going, creating magic on the decks. Biscits, as expected, did not disappoint, delivering a high-energy set that kept the crowd moving. The night culminated with Chris Lorenzo, who managed to pack the Renaissance to capacity. The pool was the only place with room to move, and that’s where I spent most of his set, floating to the beats in a sea of fellow festival-goers. Julian Bajsel for Splash House Saturday night was all about exploring the Renaissance’s renegade parties. Every corner of the hotel seemed to have a DJ setup, with impromptu sets turning hotel rooms into mini-clubs. A standout was Busterkun, a rising DJ/producer from LA, who stole the show with his incredible renegade set. It was a night of great vibes, spontaneous friendships, and nonstop music. While I planned to see Disco Dom at the Air Museum, I ended up staying at the Renaissance, where the energy was just too good to leave. Brandon Denlsey for Splash House Day Two Though I stayed up way too late on Saturday, missing most of day two, I managed to catch LF System as the sun set, creating the perfect backdrop for their groovy, disco-laden take on house music. MEDUZA’s two-hour set was the highlight of the night, taking us on an unforgettable journey and ending with the fitting track ‘I Don’t Want to Go Home’. Everyone in the crowd felt the same way. Brandon Denlsey for Splash House While I didn’t make it to The Saguaro or Margaritaville, friends who did had nothing but praise for performances by SG Lewis, AC Slater, Patrick Topping, and Dr. Fresch. Riordan and Austin Millz also delivered standout sets, making the most of the unique energy at each venue. Final Thoughts: Why Splash House is a Must-Attend Festival Splash House is more than just a festival; it’s a community. With its intimate setup, diverse lineups, and unique venues, it creates an atmosphere where lasting friendships are made. It could even be said that every moment feels like a shared celebration. Whether you’re a first-timer or a veteran, there’s always something new to discover and someone new to meet. Each venue offers its own distinct vibe, and no matter where you find yourself, you’re in for a good time. Acts like Wenzday, DJ Topgun, and Bijou were on my list to see but didn’t quite fit into my weekend—just more reasons to return next year.
