Spotify and Instagram Team Up: New Continuous Sharing Feature in the Works?
Spotify has long been at the forefront of blending music with social media, and it seems like they’re gearing up to take that integration to the next level. Rumors are swirling about a new Spotify feature that would allow users to continuously share their music directly through Instagram’s Notes. This potential game-changer, first spotted by app reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, has the internet buzzing with anticipation. Continuous Sharing: The Next Evolution of Music and Social Media? Instagram introduced its Notes feature back in 2022 as a way for users to share 30-second clips with their followers. While song clips have been part of the equation in regions with music licensing, this new feature suggests that Spotify is exploring a deeper integration. The proposed “continuous share” feature would let users broadcast what they’re listening to in real-time on Instagram, with the option to stop sharing whenever they choose. This concept isn’t entirely new, as Spotify already has a similar integration with Facebook. However, given the shifting demographics—with younger users gravitating more towards platforms like Instagram and TikTok—it’s no surprise that Spotify is focusing on Instagram for its next social feature rollout. Testing in Progress: Will This Feature See the Light of Day? As with many app developments, it’s important to note that this feature is still in the testing phase. Meta and Spotify are known for experimenting with new concepts, but not all make it to a public release. The “Share from Spotify” prompt that Paluzzi uncovered reads: “Continuously share what you’re listening to. You can stop sharing at any time,” hinting at a seamless experience for users who want to share their musical journey with followers. The Bigger Picture: Spotify’s Social Ambitions This potential feature aligns with Spotify’s broader strategy of enhancing its community features, which is crucial as they look to compete with platforms like YouTube and TikTok. Beyond just music streaming, Spotify has been adding new layers to its app, such as the ability to comment on podcasts and create detailed user profiles. These moves suggest that Spotify isn’t just content with being a music streaming service—it wants to be a social hub for music lovers. While neither Spotify nor Meta has confirmed this feature, the buzz around it indicates that something big could be on the horizon. Whether or not the continuous sharing feature becomes a reality, it’s clear that Spotify is committed to pushing the boundaries of how we interact with music and social media. 5 EDM Remixes That Became Bigger Than The Original Song
Reimagined and better. Remixes are one of the biggest parts in music, being the official way to release an artist’s vision of a track originally created by someone else. Throughout time, we have been blessed with some amazing reworks that to this date are still huge and receive appreciation. Follow along the list as we are about to go down memory lane looking at 5 remixes that became bigger than the original track. Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji – Pressure (Alesso Remix)Back in 2011, Alesso gave us one of the most iconic EDM tracks ever made. Still in his setlist these days, the song is a masterpiece. Everything is perfect about it, the vocals, the leads, the build up, the tension it creates, and finally, the drop. With such a legendary sound, Alesso won the award for the ‘Best Progressive Track‘ at the 2012 International Dance Music Awards. 2. Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix) This is that song you first heard on the radio and immediately fell in love with. From a folk-pop track to a golden era, tropical house classic, Seeb have topped charts in countries such as the UK, USA, Belgium and The Netherlands. The remix is true to the sounds of 2015/2016 when tropical house was at its peak with other songs such as ‘Stole The Show‘ and ‘Perfect Strangers.’ 3. Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais Remix) ‘Summertime Sadness’, but make it a festival anthem. The legendary Cedric Gervais produced one of the most loved progressive house songs to this day. Turning a slow bpm record into an EDM classic, the song has debuted at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Lana Del Rey’s highest-charting solo. Cedric’s remix also reached number 4 in the UK singles chart and went platinum in Germany. 4. Benny Benassi feat. Gary Go – Cinema (Skrillex Remix) From tech house to electro house and dubstep, Skrillex has done it all, but nothing compares to his remix of ‘Cinema‘ by Benny Benassi. The dubstep icon stole the show with this release that received a 2012 Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording and stayed on Billboard’s Dance list for more than two years after its release. The ‘Cinema‘ remix is now Skrillex’s 14th most streamed song on Spotify with 159 million streams. 5. Steve Aoki feat. Wynter Gordon – Ladi Dadi (Tommy Trash Remix) Another Golden Era gem, this time coming from one of the progressive house pioneers, Tommy Trash. Having tracks such as ‘Reload’ and ‘Sunrise (Won’t Get Lost)’ in his discography, Tommy is truly a legend of the genre. In 2012, he released his version of ‘Ladi Dadi’ by Steve Aoki and Wynter Gordon. The remix went on to be played at the biggest festivals and clubs in the world by artists like the Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto and Kaskade. While this list only features five of the biggest remixes ever produced, there are still a ton of them out there that could make this article go on forever. It is great how listeners can think a track couldn’t get any better and then be blown away by a remix. Remixes have always been a way of keeping older and iconic songs fresh and adapted to the newer sounds of the industry.

Kasablanca delivers the fourth single of their upcoming debut album, ‘Higher Resolution’ (Side A), this time with their viral official cover of The Prodigy’s iconic track from 1996, ‘Breathe.’ Quickly becoming a chart-topping single in the late ’90s, ‘Breathe’ was the second single from The Prodigy’s third album ‘The Fat of the Land.’ The song saw widespread critical acclaim around the world, hitting number 1 on UK music charts, going on to be 2x certified platinum, and earning a spot as one of dance music’s most recognizable tracks. Festival of electronic music comes to Liverpool to celebrate 60 years of the synthesiser
Liverpool will host a historic electronic music festival celebrating 60 years of The Moog — the first-ever commercial synthesiser. The Moog At 60 is a four-day musical extravaganza for lovers of all things electronic and synth, which takes place at Liverpool Hope University’s Capstone Theatre between 21-24 November 2024. This landmark celebration will pay homage to the revolutionary instrument and its inventor Robert Moog, which changed popular music forever in 1964. The Moog, a name synonymous with electronic music, was the first-ever commercial synthesiser. Through its revolutionary concept of analogue modular synthesis, the instrument heralded a succession of technological developments in music throughout the 60s and 70s. It was a key feature in the most innovative electronic and experimental music, progressive rock and jazz fusion of the time. Paving the way for a succession of technological developments in music, The Moog created a new sound which was soon embraced by legendary acts such as Kraftwerk, George Harrison, and the Rolling Stones. Following a period in electronic music production in the 80s and 90s dominated by digital synthesis, more recently analogue modular synthesisers have returned to the centre stage in electronic music, with artists enthralled by the instruments’ timbral richness and their tactile sensitivity and playability. Opening the festival in Liverpool on Thursday 21 November will be a headline show featuring Will Gregory Moog Ensemble; a collective led by Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory and whose members include Portishead’s Adrian Utley and composers Graham Fitkin and Ben Foster. Expect sounds from their latest album Heat Ray, an album inspired by the work of Greek mathematician Archimedes. On Friday 22 November, the Capstone hosts a Lydia Kavina and The Twelve Hour Foundation double bill. Theremin player Lydia Kavina has graced stages with renowned orchestras such as the London Symphony, Radio France Orchestra and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, whilst The Twelve Hour Foundation, whose music is released on the Castles in Space label, has had airplay from the likes of Stuart Maconie, Gideon Coe, Pete Wiggs and Project Moonbase. On Saturday 23 November, the festival welcomes another double bill in Dave Bessell and Polypores. A classically trained musician with a doctorate in classical orchestration, Dave Bessell has also enjoyed an extensive career in popular music contributing to albums by Killing Joke and Suede. Polypores’ music has been released by respected electronic music labels such as Castles In Space, Polytechnic Youth, Woodford Halse, DiN and Frequency Domain. The celebration culminates on Sunday 24 November with A Tribute to Kraftwerk: 50 Years of Autobahn and Far Beyond. For the 50th anniversary of the iconic group’s international breakthrough album Autobahn, music technology expert Mark Jenkins presents a striking live solo performance of the band’s hits. For lovers of these innovators and pioneers of electronic music, this very special anniversary gig is simply a must. The Capstone Theatre’s Neil Campbell said: “During the past few years, The Capstone Theatre has become a hotbed of electronic music and we have hosted many packed out nights. This, our first-ever festival of electronic music, will be particularly special — featuring some incredible acts in celebration of the groundbreaking instrument that changes music forever. We’re thoroughly excited.” Tickets for The Moog at 60: A Celebration are on sale at TicketQuarter. Event tickets start at £16.50, with festival bundle tickets available from £55. Krikor: Music for the Martin Scorsese Documentary / Limited Vinyl
Shapeshifting Parisian producer Krikor Kouchian summons lavish string and synth arrangements on his score for new documentary ‘Martin Scorsese, L’Italo-Américain’, directed by Yal Sadat and Camille Juza, and now available on a limited edition private pressing. Comes with a sew-on Cape Fear “Time The Avenger” patch, plus a download of the album dropped to your account. ‘Music For Marty’ is the latest in Krikor’s string of scores for moving image, following ‘Saudi’ (2017), ‘Building Arnold Schwarzenegger’ (2019), and, for our own Editions label, ’Six & Demi Onze (Bande Originale du Film)’ (2020). In major/minor key with the documentary’s themes of a quest for identity – specifically Scorcese’s experience of growing up in a migrant family in Little Italy, and all the associated strands of masculinity, redemption, the violence of the mob – that would colour the pop cultural imagination via his storytelling, the music conveys a profound sense of beauty, bitterness, and deep romanticism. No doubt ‘Music For Marty’ is Krikor’s most impressive and expansive work to date, speaking to his nuanced emotional register and subtle ability to sneak in traces of more screwed electronic signatures, invisibly lining the seams. He swerves any of the familiar rock or soul motifs in Scorcese’s flicks to inherently focus on how European classical music would be adapted to Hollywood features, implying links to Italian library music and its later use of grandiose synth symphonies. Severed from the documentary, the 22 themes range from voluminous ambient dub on the opener ‘Little Marty’ to the windswept pomp of ‘Gospel of Greed’ via the brooding might and shearing tension of ‘Every Muscle Must Be Tight’, whose title sounds like one of Scorcese’s directing cues. It’s the likes of his transition from crest-swell strings to romantic flutes on ‘Like an Angel Out of This Filthy Mess’ or the Danny Elfman-scale symphony ‘The Italian American’ that evoke Scorsese’s mood perfectly, avoiding the overly emotional pomp and hollow refinement of the OST new skool. Scuba unveils full Digital Underground mixtape ‘D:U:2′
One of Tthe UK’s most versatile and prolific electronic music producer is back with the second volume of his critically acclaimed Digital Underground mixtape – ‘D:U:2’, out now, following a string of successful live shows, his first in 11 years. Early mixtape singles ‘Truth’, ‘Riding Hi’, ‘Sorry’ and ‘i wna doit inth bckst’ have been supported by Tom Ravenscroft on BBC 6 Music and featured throughout the artist’s UK D:U:Live shows in June. And yes, this is technically a new Scuba album, except he’s not calling it that. RA’s Henry Ivry said it best in his review of the maiden Digital Underground mixtape last year, observing that typical albums from the UK producer tended to be ‘state of the union-type releases’, whereas Digital Underground was ‘pure unadulterated joy’. Indeed, this project is all about regaining a sense of fun in the studio, following a challenging yet rewarding film score project during the pandemic that had him burnt out and craving a return to the simple pleasures of music production without any strict parameters or guidelines. He sat down and began creating and what has followed has been some of the most exultant, high-octane productions of his career with Shawn Reynaldo commenting, ‘Paul Rose’s new D:U:2 mixtape might be the most objectively fun thing he’s ever released, at times employing elements one might expect to hear in a PC Music or Two Shell record.’ A thread runs through all Digital Underground cuts – a mining of the past, but always with an eye to the future – old skool hardcore, breakbeat, jungle and techno. The kind of raw, dopamine-fuelled soundtrack that scored ‘90s warehouse raves from London to Manchester, but with that unique Scuba edge that ensures it’s never derivative and fits today’s dancefloors. Focus Track‘U Never See’: high energy, upbeat, with a jazzy feel. A helter-skelter of breakbeat percussive layers introduces staccato piano chord patterns as a pitch-shifted acid-vibe vocal duets with another in an other-worldly call and response. The release features a further three mixtape exclusives: ‘Forever’ is drum-happy, crazily catchy, with twangy bass riff, scattery vocal fragments and multiple drops, while ‘Storms Of Love’ brings old skool hissy beats and reverb-rich bass, alternating with bursts of high, soulful vocal riffs, for an insistently brain-invading rave package; while ‘Pill Press’ asserts itself with techno beat, demanding percussion, piano chord motifs over ominously swooshing synths and chimes, entrancingly danceable. ‘This is the second part of a series started last year which explores the classic era of hardcore, which is one of my absolute favourite periods of dance music history’ Scuba says. ‘It’s been a lot of fun to put together and the second mixtape gets into some of the themes that we didn’t delve too deeply into on the first one, so it’s a great way to continue.’ Scuba ‘D:U:2’ is out now on Hotflush Recordings. Get it here. Watch Scuba perform D:U:LIVE on Hörhere. Tracklist: 1. Scuba – Saturday 2. Scuba – U Never See 3. Scuba – i wna doit nth bckst 4. Scuba – Sorry 5. Scuba – Forever 6. Scuba – Riding Hi 7. Michael Alan Releases Debut Single ‘Dark Matter’ On Amon Vision
We’re kicking off today with a great release, from a great label. Fridays mean new music, we all know that by now. And what better way to kick off this weekend than with a fresh new call-and-response EP coming from Australia. Today, Perth-based imprint Amon Vision offers a new chapter in their sonic story, and we’re here for it. Their latest is called Dark Matter, and it’s comprised of the original homonymously-named single by Michael Alan — his debut single —, and a killer Trancier spin of his track, coming from the hands of none other than Will Rees. Michael Alan A local hero, Michael Alan is a DJ, Vocalist and Producer from Perth, with a rather strong bond with Electronic music. One of his highlights is his YouTube channel, where he consistently uploads hourlong sets compiling the best of Trance, Progressive, and Melodic House, among other genres. He’s produced a couple of remixes in the past, but now the time has come for him to land an original and lay his producing foundation. Will Rees Will Rees, a renowned Welsh artist, flies his sound across the oceans for today’s release. Renowned for his ability to seamlessly blend Trance and Techno elements, Rees has released music on the biggest labels, and he’s travelled the world spinning his largest hits and IDs, which span close to 15 years. ‘Dark Matter’ As previously mentioned, in the EP you’ll find ‘Dark Matter’ in two flavours: Alan’s Original Mix, and Rees’ Remix. Original Mix With a distinct blend of sounds, Michael Alan’s ‘Dark Matter’ features groovy plucks, catchy percussion, and heartfelt male vocals, to make this one a very special release. The song contains House chords, Progressive beats, and Trance atmospheres to make you fly away, as well as gated leads and sustained vocal beds that finish texturing the track on all fronts. Will Rees Remix You’ll notice a change of pace right away. Bar 33 hits us with Will’s distinctive Tech Trance kicks, which lay the foundation for the vocal. Powerful and festival-ready, this take on ‘Dark Matter’ includes electric leads, dreamy pads, and fairy-like plucks, and it builds towards turning the original into a pure Trance record with reflective breaks, and potent drops. Sub Focus, Dimension and NGHTMRE Drop Uplifting Drum & Bass Track, "Angel"
If angels sound like this, we better quit sinning so much at festivals. For the past few months, fans on Discord and beyond have been clamoring for the release of a high-profile collaboration between Dimension, Sub Focus and NGHTMRE that had been emerged as a fan-favorite in each artist's live sets. The trio has now decided it's time for the rest of the world to hear the record, "Angel," which officially hit streaming platforms moments ago. As you would expect from artists of this caliber, "Angel" is clean, precise and masterfully produced, its soft vocals from Mougleta cutting through like sunshine breaking through a cloudy day. While many popular entries into the drum & bass genre add grimy elements to give their track an edge, Dimension, Sub Focus and NGHTMRE stand out with sharp basslines and fine-tuned percussion that leave listeners feeling uplifted. Both NGHTMRE and Dimension will get a chance to drop "Angel" on the road this fall, when the duo go b2b at Subtronics' Cyclops Dome 2 show in Tacoma and Shaq's Bass All-Stars Festival in Dallas-Fort Worth. Meanwhile, Sub Focus is set to perform alongside Dimension for a can't-miss WORSHIP showcase at the 2024 Amsterdam Dance Event. John Summit, Subtronics and Tape B Join Forces to Reimagine Sage the Gemini's "Gas Pedal"
When you find out the original came out 10 years ago, you're going to feel very, very old. Out now is "Gas Pedal," a reimagined version of Sage the Gemini's 2014 hit of the same name from the unlikely trio of John Summit, Subtronics and Tape B. Since they debuted the collaboration together at Summit's "Experts Only" showcase during this year's Miami Music Week, it's become a staple on the festival circuit. Fans of Summit will find themselves at home in the first half of the track, where Sage the Gemini's earworm lyrics slink through a familiar house rhythm. From there, Subtronics and Tape B's influence runs wild with deep subs and nasty growls that will leave fans screaming into their pashminas when they hear it live. While Tape B and Subtronics joining forces is not very surprising, casual fans may find it odd to see Summit. However, despite reaching headliner status in the house music world, he's an outspoken proponent of dubstep and bass music, DJing along Subtronics at events like EDC Las Vegas and Lost Lands. He's also worked with drum & bass legend Sub Focus, with whom he release "Go Back." Listen to "Gas Pedal" below and find the new track on streaming platforms here. Said The Sky and William Black Gather the Fragments of Heartache in "All Falls Down"
When longtime collaborators Said The Sky and William Black come together, the emotional weight of their music is anything but happenstance. Their latest release, a collaboration with Melodie Wagner called "All Falls Down," mirrors the delicate act of picking up the pieces after a shattering heartbreak, a theme they've explored in previous works but never with such raw vulnerability. The duo has once again crafted music that delves deep into the trials of love and loss. An exquisite blend of future-pop and melodic bass, "All Falls Down" falls in the gray area where vulnerability and strength are deliriously blurred. The track's emotional core lies in its lyrics, which grapple with the trepidation of giving oneself fully in the wake of heartache. From a production standpoint, its soaring synths serve as a cathartic release, carrying listeners through waves of heavy-hitting 808s. The song speaks to the universal experience of seeking companionship in the darkest hour, a sentiment beautifully captured in its melancholic melodies and emotionally charged production. As its arrangement crescendos, it mirrors the journey of attempting to rebuild after a fall, a theme that resonates with anyone who has ever felt the sting of a broken heart. Black, an EDM.com Class of 2021 inductee, and Said The Sky are expected to debut "All Falls Down" live at the Brooklyn Mirage on September 1st, when the S2O Festival rolls into town. Listen to Gian Varela and Maffio's Latin House Banger, "Gua Gua"
Panamanian DJ and producer Gian Varela is back with "Gua Gua," a late-summer dancefloor filler with a Latin twist. Out now via Municipal Recordings, the track is a collaboration with Latin Grammy-winning super-producer Maffio, who has created music for Pitbull, Akon, will.i.am, Nicky Jam, Farruko and many more. Together, their expertise shines through in the production, with each element carefully placed to maximize impact on the dancefloor. The track's four-on-the-floor beat, a relentless heart transplanted from the depths of the underground, pumps life into feet that forgot how to move. "Gua Gua" seamlessly blends Latin vocals with a thick bassline, creating an irresistible urge to move. Varela and Maffio have struck a potent balance between tech and Afro-house, ensuring the song's appeal stretches from casual listeners to dedicated dance music enthusiasts. Varela says he met Maffio through El Chombo, one of the world's most influential producers of reggaeton and plena music. After he remixed Maffio's track "Elma Maria" and released it on Sony, the two decided to hit the studio and produce an original track together. Now, Varela says he's setting his sights on the development of his own label, Monarka Records. He has not formally announced a launch date at the time of this writing. Antonator Drops Sci-Fi-Inspired Techno Track, "Swarm"
Antonator swarms the senses with his new single, a cosmic collision of old-school trance and techno. Out now via his own Anto Recordings imprint, "Swarm" is a propulsive techno journey through the stars. Extraterrestrial synths soar like alien spacecraft, their engines humming with a relentless energy and hurtling through a luminous arrangement with a sci-fi aesthetic. The track's spacey melodies and driving bassline create a hypnotic, almost trance-like state. Beneath the familiar soundscapes, there's a subtle undercurrent of experimentation, a hint of the unknown that keeps listeners on their toes.
