  4. A$AP Ferg's "Work" has found a new lease on life, thanks to the surgical precision of Proppa, Rich DietZ and Smith & Sorren. The producers have spliced, diced and reassembled the 3x Platinum hip-hop hit into a Frankensteinian four-on-the-floor banger. Harnessing the original's inescapable melody, they strip "Work" down to its raw bones, only to rebuild it from the ground up as a tech house behemoth. The original's gritty swagger now stomps through a thick and thunderous bassline, the kind that makes subwoofers question their life choices. The result is a rework that feels equally at home in a sweaty warehouse rave or a late-night Uber ride, bridging gaps and proving that sometimes, the best way to honor a track is to flip it on its head. View the original article to see embedded media. Proppa, Rich DietZ and Smith & Sorren apparently took Ferg's lyrics, "Straight off the plane, droppin' the flame," literally. They met up and quickly hit the studio to produce the track together in Chicago, where each performed during Hood Politics Records' epic stage takeover at North Coast Music Festival. "It's truly unfair that this crew got together in a studio but it's no surprise that pure magic came from the session," the label said. Hood Politics was everywhere at North Coast. The label's founder DJ Susan, a member of the EDM.com Class of 2024, filled in for Moksi on the festival's "Shipyard" stage and threw down a song-cycle of the label's hip-house bangers. That includes "Everything Off (Ante Up)," an upcoming collaboration with Rich DietZ, who joined him onstage for one of the set's most electric moments. Elsewhere, Chicago's own Sherm threw down on "The Stadium" mainstage, delivering one of the festival's best DJ sets in his hometown. It was his fifth consecutive year performing at North Coast. 5. This is an ongoing story and will be updated whenever more information is added. California has been facing a lot of wildfires unfortunately. The state is now in a time of year when the worst wildfires usually happen. In September and October, the plants on the ground are dry and can easily catch fire. This is because it’s been a dry and hot summer. Also, this is the time of year when winds from the ocean often blow. These winds can make fires spread much faster. Add intentionality to that and you often get disastrous results like the ones we’re seeing now, with the wildfires spreading dangerously fast and with a force that prevents efforts to contain it. Not only acres of land, homes, and power lines have suffered the effects of the fires. Entertainment also has. Insomniac’s Nocturnal Wonderland has just released a statement in which they announce the festival, as of now, has been canceled. This, due to the fire approaching Glen Helen Regional Park, the place set as the venue for the gathering. It’s a sad and unfortunate move for attendees, but it’s also for their safety, and everyone else involved in such a large project. The statement reads: “Dear headliners, While Nocturnal Wonderland was cleared to move forward at the time of our last update, we are saddened to inform you that new fires in the San Bernardino area have ignited over the past 36 hours and are now approaching the Glen Helen Amphitheater. (…) After further discussions with local authorities, due to the impact of the fires surrounding the venue, we will be unable to proceed with Nocturnal Wonderland. (…)” They’ve also said they’ll be updating ticket holders on how they’ll be able to get a refund. For now, we ask everyone to stay safe. Read the full statement below. 8. Today we have the honour of exclusively revealing the poster for the forthcoming documentary film ‘Hyper’—a project that promises to shine a long-overdue light on one of the UK’s most influential and unsung pioneers: Stevie Hyper D. Poster Photo by Tristan O’Neill This Kickstarter campaign aims to raise funds for music clearances, archive access, legal costs, and a special edition Blu-Ray release of HYPER: THE STEVIE HYPER D STORY—a documentary that celebrates Stevie’s life and legacy as a trailblazer in Jungle and UK music. By backing this project, you’re not just helping to bring the film to life; you’re becoming part of a movement to immortalise Stevie’s impact on the global music scene. And the rewards are next level, with exclusive Stevie Hyper D records, cassettes, clothing, and more up for grabs—only available here and now. Director Jamie Ross-Hulme, who joined forces with Stevie’s nephew Darrell Austin in 2012, brings a uniquely personal touch to the film. Darrell initially reached out to Jamie after recognising his deep knowledge of London’s music history, and the partnership has since blossomed. As Jamie explains: “This was the first time the family would be opening Stevie’s personal archive to tell his story, and they wanted to do it respectfully and professionally.” Together, Darrell and Jamie’s collaboration has resulted in a documentary that authentically captures Stevie’s life and contributions to music culture, pulling from unseen footage of 90s London and the underground rave scene. As Jamie notes, the creative process evolved over time: “What started as a tribute to solidify Stevie’s story also became a personal journey for Darrell, as he opened up about his own struggles with grief and mental health.” The documentary blends unseen archive footage with a narrative-driven, talking heads approach. The cast of contributors is an impressive lineup, featuring legends from London’s music culture who have never before been brought together in this way. Jamie reflects on the film’s vision: “Stevie Hyper D passed away in 1998, just before the digital and social media explosion of the noughties. We wanted to bring to life an artist who had not been widely seen on camera before, existing only via audio recordings from bootleg rave tapes.” Stevie Hyper D was a lyrical force, with a groundbreaking MC style that set the stage for future generations of artists. His untimely death at 31, just as he was on the brink of mainstream success, was a tragic loss for the jungle scene and beyond. HYPER: THE STEVIE HYPER D STORY honours his memory and cements his place as a pivotal figure in UK music history. The Kickstarter campaign gives fans and newcomers alike the chance to be a part of this important project, and to help bring Stevie’s story to the world. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grab exclusive merch, and even be among the first to see the documentary. With Stevie Hyper D’s spirit living on in the artists he inspired, this film is set to be a powerful tribute to a true pioneer of British music. Get involved and help make HYPER a reality!

  17. Breaking into the festival scene can be a challenging process. With so many talented artists and creative forces in the industry, finding that perfect opportunity to step forward and claim your spot in the culture can sometimes feel overwhelming and confusing—but that doesn’t mean your dream isn’t worth pursuing. By harnessing the right skills, meeting the right people, and staying focused on your goals, you can land your first big-time gig and start taking your DJ career to the next level. So, where do you start? And what do you do? Landing a career-defining gig requires persistence, strategy, and a fair amount of interpersonal skills. Here’s how you can break into the festival circuit and start sharing your music with the masses. Participate in the scene Being an active, familiar presence on the festival scene is one of the most important things any professional or aspiring professional DJ can do. Festival crews like to work with people they trust, so it can be hard for outsiders to land good gigs for a big party. Play the long game by attending as many festivals as possible, supporting friends’ and peers’ shows, and establishing yourself as an active participant in the music festival community. The more industry people you connect with, the better the chances of securing a slot on the stage. Target the right festivals If you want to land a good gig, you need to put yourself out there. But that doesn’t mean you should just approach any and every festival you hear about. Researching and targeting festivals that focus on the music genres and atmosphere you resonate with is crucial for getting positive responses from them. You may not be ready for huge festivals Tomorrowland or your music isn’t a great fit, but there are plenty of other festivals that have smaller stages and attract different genres of music fans. Seek out opportunities in environments and parties whose scenes align with your own. Your chances of landing a strong gig will be much higher. Hone your networking and social skills Being a DJ is 90% being a good DJ and 10% having great social skills. Not only do you need to be able to connect well with the people who are dancing to and enjoying your music, but you also need to form strong relationships with others within the industry you work in. When you know the right people, landing a big gig in the festival scene becomes a million times easier. Sometimes, all it takes to get a foot in the door is to have a singularly amazing conversation with the right person at the right moment. So keep those social skills sharp, and continue engaging with other talented, well-connected festival people as much as you can. It can elevate your career in music significantly. Run your own stage Sometimes, it is better to create an opportunity for yourself rather than wait for one to come along on its own. Applying to run your own stage at a festival is a fun and effective way to break into the scene and cultivate a bigger reputation for yourself—all the while gaining respect for your independent ways. Plus, when you run your own stage, you have a lot more control over the atmosphere and environment of your DJ set-up, allowing you to present yourself in a way that feels authentic to your style. If you’ve got the financial capital and time to run your own stage, it’s a great option for boosting your career. Build an established online presence The physical festival scene is important for cultivating strong social connections, but so is the online scene. By building an established online presence, you can make it easy for big event brands, potential collaborators, fans, and interested parties to discover your music and follow you online. Use high-quality photos, regularly post about current gigs, list any DJ courses you’ve done or any experience, and engage with your audience on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. By showcasing your potential as a DJ and demonstrating your passion for the scene, you’ll get noticed virtually, which can lead to real-life bookings. Overall, the music festival industry is competitive and a little crazy at times, but that’s what keeps things interesting. It’s also what makes finally landing your first big gig at a festival all the more rewarding. With enough perseverance, practice, and patience, you’ll soon be behind the decks, playing to the crowd. After releasing a techno track, "I Just Wanna," this summer, Marjanović recently performed a supersized DJ set during this year's "Rave The Planet" parade. A massive celebration of techno culture, the event doubles as a spiritual successor to Berlin's iconic Love Parade. Videos shared by Marjanović and fans on social media show him hunched over DJ decks that barely reach his waist. The towering basketball star, who appeared as a villain in John Wick 3 back in 2019, was joined onstage by his Serbian compatriot Lanna as well as German DJ Human Rias. The trio would go on to perform a selection of high-energy techno tracks while hyping up the enthusiastic—and confused—crowd. This year's parade also featured Farrago, Catz 'N Dogz, Denise Schneider, Tube & Berger and EDM.com Class of 2023 star AMÉMÉ, among many others. 19. A hot summer night in Los Angeles turned into a bad one for thousands of concert-goers when the Hollywood Bowl had to stop its Sunday roster because of a big power outage. The concert, with Vance Joy, Grouplove, and Tiny Habits, was part of the KCRW Festival and had been looked forward to by many. When the power went out, the famous outdoor venue was dark. It’s not clear what caused the outage, but the reports state that Southern California Edison, the electric company in charge of the area, was dealing with more than 60 different power outages. The power outage affected more than 6,000 customers in an area that covers five counties. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said that around 6,600 customers didn’t have power. The Bowl released a short statement notifying of the incident. “Due to a power outage at the Hollywood Bowl, tonight’s concert is canceled”, it reads. “If a new date for this performance can be confirmed, details will follow and tickets for the original date will be valid for the new performance date. For any questions, exchanges, or refund requests, please contact Audience Services”. pic.twitter.com/BR7gdI2K2h — Hollywood Bowl (@HollywoodBowl) September 9, 2024 The Hollywood Bowl wasn’t the only place that was affected by the power outage. Local businesses, including half of Del Amo Mall, also had to close for a while. Residents and visitors had trouble getting cash from ATMs. The LADWP said that the power outages were mostly because of the hot weather, explaining that electrical equipment can get too hot and break when it can’t cool down at night. The outages hit neighborhoods such as Exposition Park, Highland Park, and Silver Lake the hardest. The cancellation of the Hollywood Bowl concert was a big disappointment for fans who had been excited about the event. There’s no news yet on whether the show will be rescheduled, but the incident shows the challenges caused by extreme weather and the importance of having reliable infrastructure for essential services. 24. Festival season is one of the most anticipated times of the year for music lovers and partygoers, but the excitement of attending a festival can quickly turn to disappointment if you’re unable to get tickets. Whether you’re trying to attend Glastonbury, Coachella, or Tomorrowland, festival tickets sell out quickly – often within minutes. To secure your spot, you need a strategy. This article will guide you through how to get festival tickets early, ensuring you never miss out on your favorite events again. From signing up for presales to leveraging fan club memberships and knowing the right timing, these tips will help you get ahead in the ticket-buying race. Why Festival Tickets Sell Out So Fast Festival Tickets In recent years, the demand for festival tickets has skyrocketed, with many events selling out in record time. Festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella attract massive crowds, and with only a limited number of tickets available, the competition is fierce. There are a few reasons why festival tickets are so hard to come by: High Demand: Major festivals attract international crowds and music lovers from all over the world. With limited ticket numbers, demand outstrips supply almost immediately. Scalpers and Bots: Unfortunately, automated bots and scalpers often buy up large amounts of tickets to resell them at inflated prices, making it harder for genuine fans to secure tickets. Presales and Reserved Tickets: Many festivals offer presale tickets to members of fan clubs, credit card holders, or specific groups, leaving fewer tickets available for the general public sale. With these challenges in mind, knowing how to get festival tickets early can be a game-changer. Let’s look at some strategies to improve your chances of snagging those coveted tickets. Sign Up for Presale Access One of the most effective ways to get festival tickets early is to take advantage of presales. Festivals often offer presales before the general ticket release, giving fans the chance to secure tickets in advance. However, access to presales is typically limited, so you’ll need to act fast. Here’s how you can qualify for presale access: Join the Festival’s Mailing List: Many festivals provide presale codes or links to their newsletter subscribers. Sign up for the mailing list of the festivals you’re interested in to receive updates and presale information. Fan Club Memberships: Some festivals offer early ticket access to members of artist fan clubs. If your favorite headliner has a fan club, it might be worth joining to get early access. Follow Festival Social Media Channels: Festivals often announce presales and release codes via their social media platforms. Keep an eye on official festival accounts for exclusive announcements. Credit Card Presales: Certain credit card companies, such as American Express, offer presale opportunities for cardholders. Check with your credit card provider to see if they partner with any festivals you’re interested in attending. Presale access often opens before the general public sale, so take advantage of these opportunities to get ahead of the crowd. Set Up Ticket Alerts One of the most frustrating aspects of trying to get festival tickets is not knowing exactly when they go on sale. Tickets can drop suddenly, and if you miss the announcement, it could cost you your chance to attend. To avoid this, set up ticket alerts through trusted platforms and festival websites. Here’s how: Ticketmaster Alerts: Sign up for notifications through Ticketmaster or other ticketing platforms like See Tickets or Eventbrite. They’ll send you reminders when tickets go on sale, helping you stay in the loop. Google Alerts: Set up Google Alerts for keywords like “Glastonbury tickets on sale” or “Coachella presale” to receive email notifications when new articles or pages are published on the topic. Mobile Notifications: Many ticketing apps offer push notifications. Download the apps for popular ticket sellers and festivals, and enable notifications to ensure you don’t miss a release. By staying informed, you can prepare to purchase tickets the moment they become available. Create an Account in Advance Before tickets go on sale, make sure you’re prepared. Creating an account on the ticketing platform ahead of time can save you precious minutes during the buying process, which can make all the difference. Here’s what you should do: Create or Update Your Account: Make sure you have an account set up on the website where tickets are being sold. Log in before the sale starts to save time. Save Payment Information: Add your payment information to your account ahead of time to avoid fumbling for your credit card during checkout. Double-Check Your Shipping Address: If physical tickets are being mailed, ensure your address is up to date. By streamlining the process, you’ll be able to purchase tickets as quickly as possible, reducing the risk of them selling out before you complete the transaction. Read also: Best Festival Outfits 2024: Top Fashion Trends to Stand Out in Style Use Multiple Devices When tickets are in high demand, time is of the essence. To increase your chances of getting festival tickets early, consider using multiple devices to access the ticketing website. This can help you get into the queue faster and provide backup options in case one device crashes. Here’s how to make the most of this strategy: Use Different Browsers and Devices: Open the ticketing website on multiple devices, such as your laptop, phone, and tablet. You can also use different browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari) to increase your chances of getting through. Connect to a Stable Internet Connection: A fast and reliable internet connection is essential. Avoid using public Wi-Fi, as it can slow down your purchase process. Instead, use a high-speed home or office network. Just be careful not to overload the system by refreshing too frequently or opening too many tabs on the same device, as this can cause you to be temporarily blocked from the website. Know the Ticket Release Time Knowing the exact time tickets will be released is crucial. Many festival tickets go on sale at specific times, such as 10 AM local time, so make sure you’re ready to go when the clock strikes. Here are a few tips to ensure you’re on time: Time Zone Awareness: Be mindful of the time zone the festival is based in. If you’re purchasing tickets for an international festival, convert the sale time to your local time zone so you don’t miss out. Set Multiple Alarms: Set alarms 15 minutes before the tickets go on sale to give yourself time to log in and get ready. Set another alarm right at the sale time so you don’t get distracted. Log In Early: Some ticketing websites may place you in a waiting room before tickets go live. Log in 10-15 minutes early to ensure you’re in the virtual queue as soon as tickets become available. The more prepared you are, the better your chances of getting tickets at the exact release time. Master the Queue System Many major festivals use a queue system to manage the overwhelming demand for tickets. Understanding how the queue works can give you a strategic advantage. Here’s how to navigate the ticketing queue: Stay Patient: Once you’re in the queue, avoid the temptation to refresh the page, as this can cause you to lose your place. Most queues will update automatically, so just sit tight and wait for your turn. Have Backup Plans: If you’re trying for multiple festivals, have a plan B in case you don’t get tickets for your first choice. Keep another tab open for an alternative festival or date, or even consider secondary sales options (more on this later). Don’t Rely on a Single Queue: If possible, have friends or family members log in to the queue on their devices as well. This increases the chances that one of you will get through faster. Once you’ve made it through the queue, be quick to select your tickets and complete the purchase, as tickets can still sell out during the checkout process. Join a Festival Waiting List If you miss out on early tickets, don’t lose hope. Many festivals offer waiting lists for fans who weren’t able to purchase tickets in the initial sale. While joining a waiting list doesn’t guarantee you’ll get tickets, it does give you a second chance if more tickets become available. Here’s how to join a waiting list: Visit the Festival’s Official Website: Most festivals will have an official waiting list on their website. Sign up with your email address to be notified if more tickets are released. Check Secondary Ticketing Platforms: Some official ticketing platforms, like Ticketmaster, offer verified resales, which allow fans to sell tickets they can’t use. Be cautious when using third-party resale sites, as not all are legitimate. Stay Alert for Additional Ticket Releases: Some festivals may release additional batches of tickets closer to the event date. Keep an eye on festival updates and newsletters to be the first to know when more tickets become available. While waiting lists aren’t foolproof, they can be a lifeline for last-minute tickets. Leverage Fan Clubs and Street Teams Festival organizers often reward fan loyalty with early ticket access through fan clubs, street teams, and exclusive groups. These insider connections can give you a head start on securing festival tickets before the general public. Here’s how to get involved: Join the Artist Fan Club: Many artists offer fan club memberships that include early access to tickets for festivals they’re headlining. This is especially useful if you’re a die-hard fan of a particular performer. Become a Festival Ambassador: Some festivals offer ambassador programs, where you can earn perks like early ticket access by promoting the event on social media or selling tickets to friends. Research if your favorite festivals have these opportunities and sign up if available. Follow Influencers and Partner Brands: Some festivals partner with influencers, brands, or media outlets to offer exclusive presale opportunities. Follow these accounts on social media to catch any special promotions or giveaways. Building connections within the festival community can open doors to early ticket access, giving you an edge over the general public. Stay Organized and Plan Ahead The key to securing festival tickets early is organization. With so many steps involved, it’s essential to plan ahead and stay on top of the latest news and presale announcements. Here’s how to keep things organized: Create a Calendar: Mark the dates and times of ticket releases for the festivals you’re interested in attending. Include presale dates, general sale dates, and any secondary ticket release dates. Set Up Reminders: Use your phone or calendar app to set reminders in the days leading up to the ticket release. This ensures you’re always ready to act when tickets become available. Communicate with Friends: If you’re attending a festival with friends, coordinate your ticket-buying efforts. Multiple people trying to buy tickets increases your chances of success. The more organized you are, the less stressful the ticket-buying process will be. FAQs How early can I get festival tickets?
