London-based Eclectic Electronic Talent Tian Karl Returns From Lengthy Hiatus With New Label Project and Forthcoming Album
Since his last release in 2020, Tian Karl has been locked away in the studio redefining his sonic palette, resulting in several planned singles before the end of 2024 and subsequent LP in early 2025. London-based underground talent Tian Karl returns to the fore in 2024 with the emergence of his new label ‘TRUST ISSUES’, a slew of new singles and his forthcoming album ‘THINGS TO SAY ABOUT WORDS’, set for release in early 2025. Giving the first insight into a body of works that has been in the making since 2015, ‘Flint’ eases us back into the trademark sound that saw Tian sign music to the likes of Defected, Black Butter Records, Nervous, InMotion, Avotre and many more in years past. Undeniably danceable, ‘FLINT’ is flooded with chugging grooves, hearty low-end swing, and dreamy electronic musicality from start to finish. A head-turning Minimal / Deep Tech dancefloor jam, ‘FLINT’ is one of several tracks on Tian’s forthcoming LP that bridge the gap between the sound he’s known and loved for and the newer, more experimental side of his productions, which showcase a plethora of mature and fearlessly artistic traits. Tian Karl emerged in London’s scene in 2015 and, within a few months, had left his mark on imprints such as Defected, Black Butter Records, Nervous, InMotion, Avotre and many more. As releases on respected labels usually do, they led him to play at iconic venues such as XOYO and Ministry Of Sound. A forced hiatus in 2018 took him out of focus for a while and changed his sound into more introspective themes while not abandoning his signature garage and Neo soul-infused dancefloor sound. “There will always be traces of house, garage, Neo soul, maybe even IDM in my sound without ever being one thing only, I guess. It’s just what happens when I make music. I don’t think about it, to be honest.” he describes his process. In 2024, Tian returns with his own imprint, TRUST ISSUES, with Issue001 “FLINT”, marking his first single (post-hiatus) and his debut album “THINGS TO SAY ABOUT WORDS”, following later in early 2025. Whether you’re an existing fan of Tian’s work or you’re late to the party, one thing is for sure: the incoming wave of releases that lead into ‘THINGS TO SAY ABOUT WORDS’ play perfectly into the hands of anyone with an eclectic palette and an appreciation for artists who dare to be musically vulnerable in search of a newfound reputation for pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance music and rigid underground nuances. Tian Karl’s ‘FLINT’ is available to download/stream via TRUST ISSUES from 27th September 2024. It’s an inviting preview of what’s to come when “Euphoria Ends” launches on 11th October. Yulo X is a captivating blend of electronica, infusing melodic and ambient elements with touches of House, Techno, Garage, and Dubstep. He channels the artistic intricacies of seminal influences, including the lushness of Max Cooper, the vibrant energy of Caribou, and the enigmatic grooves of Floating Points, all distilled into a raw, minimalist sound that lays bare his emotions. With roots in Berlin and London, Neumann’s debut album promises to showcase his unique style with catchy piano passages and orchestral elements. Fans of Neumann’s previous project, “A Hundred Times Beloved,” will recognise his distinctive vocals, which are known for their new wave and dream pop vibes. His past success in the house scene with “Fex Fellini” also finds new life in Yulo X’s modern yet nostalgically nuanced electronic palette. “Euphoria Ends” is shaping to be a defining moment for Yulo X, a journey through Neumann’s inventive musical landscape. Dancefloor Devastation: 65 Nightclubs Already Closed in 2024 as Crisis Intensifies Reports NTIA
The latest statistics from CGA Neilson reveal a devastating decline in the number of nightclubs across the UK, with staggering closures that underscore the urgent need for support and intervention. Between June 2020 and June 2024, the UK lost 480 nightclubs, averaging 10 closures per month—or 2 per week. Alarmingly, the pace of closures has increased in 2024. Between December 2023 and June 2024, 65 nightclubs shut down, equating to 11 closures per month—or 3 per week. This rise in closures is devastating the UK’s late-night economy, particularly the dance music spaces that are the lifeblood of the scene. Over the past four years these vital spaces, which are essential to the UK’s globally renowned dance music culture have been disappearing at an alarming rate, jeopardising not only jobs but the very heart of nightlife and culture in communities across the country. The numbers are alarming: – Central Region: From 200 nightclubs in 2020, only 118 remain in 2024, marking a catastrophic loss of 41%. – East: A decline from 67 to 41 venues, representing a 39% reduction. – Lancashire: Once home to 178 dance floors, only 104 survive, a 42% decrease. – London: The vibrant heart of dance music has seen its dance floors reduced from 200 to just 143, down 29%. – North East: A decrease from 61 to 49 venues, equating to a 20% decline. – Scotland: From 125 venues to 83, a troubling 34% drop. – South & South East: A reduction from 92 to 70 venues, down 24%. – South West: The number of nightclubs has halved, from 111 to 64—a staggering 42% loss. – Wales: From 66 to 39 venues, reflecting a grim 41% decline. – Yorkshire: The hardest hit, with a loss from 132 to just 73 venues—a shocking 45% reduction. Regional Disparities and Cultural Impact The impact on northern regions is particularly severe. Yorkshire’s 45% reduction and Lancashire’s 42% decline illustrate the steep cultural and economic toll on these communities. In contrast, London, while also affected, shows a smaller reduction of 29%, reflecting the capital’s stronger economic base. However, this doesn’t diminish the growing risk to the capital’s iconic nightlife culture. Devolved regions like Scotland and Wales have also seen significant setbacks, with 34% and 41% reductions respectively, raising concerns over the sustainability of dance music culture in areas that rely on these venues for their local identity and economic activity. Call for Immediate Government Action The closure of nightclubs reflects a broader crisis in the UK’s night time cultural economy. The Night Time Industries Association urges the Chancellor to extend business rates relief in the coming Autumn budget to ease the financial burden on venues and ensure the survival of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cultural spaces that support nightlife culture. Further, the government must recognise the importance of supporting creative spaces beyond traditional bricks-and-mortar businesses, including pop-up events, music festivals, and other cultural initiatives that contribute to local economies. Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association, said: “The nightclub and dance music sector is facing an unprecedented crisis. Since June 2020, we’ve been losing two nightclubs every week, but in the last six months, this has escalated to three per week. This rapid decline is devastating for our economy, culture, and communities. Despite contributing millions in taxes, we are burdened with rising costs and a lack of essential public services. Late-night transport is unreliable, police presence is scarce, and venues are forced to spend on security and cleaning—services that should be publicly provided. Additionally, bureaucratic systems around licensing and planning are inconsistent and definitely not conducive to growth, weighing us down at every point. Our sector is treated like an afterthought, yet it supports jobs, tourism, and hospitality. These venues aren’t just places to dance; they are vital spaces for community and creativity. Without urgent government intervention, we risk losing a key part of the UK’s cultural identity in dance music. We need immediate action to prevent further closures. Long-term reform won’t matter if there are no venues left to benefit from it.” While long-term reform is welcome, it will come too late for many businesses unless immediate support is provided to reverse the accelerating closure rate. The UK’s nightclubs are irreplaceable, and urgent intervention is needed to ensure they remain a vibrant part of our cultural identity. Add that despite going millions in tax, and being somewhat weighed down at every point, also include bureaucratic systems around licensing and planning are inconsistent and are definitely not conducive to growth. Inside Ben Böhmer's Haunting "Bloom" Album, His Most Ambitious Work Yet
In the same way flowers reach for light, Ben Böhmer cultivates his own artistic growth in his stunning new album, Bloom. Fans of the melodic house superstar know that beneath the surface of his music lies a multilayered complexity, with intricate harmonic shifts that lend his compositions a lingering sense of evolving mystery. But we get more answers in Bloom, where the nuances of his production blossom like wildflower meadows in spring. It's clear Böhmer used the new album as a canvas for exploration, ambitiously experimenting with new genres and tempos. He also embraces songwriting like never before, threading his atmospheric production through lyricism that quavers with vulnerability. Awash in a woozy haze of synth pads, "Hiding" is one of the album's most compelling departures. A lullaby for the blind, the stunning breakbeat track pulses with the painful pang of almost-connection as Lykke Li warbles, "Where are you hiding?" "Rain" is another beautiful deviation, an ambient ballad exploring loneliness in the arms of others. Nary a single kick drum, it's a cinematic deluge of emotion where a Max Milner belts atop Böhmer's sweeping strings, lamenting a breakup through anguished vocals laced with the aftertaste of emptiness. Despite those surprises, Bloom isn't a complete anomaly. Longtime fans of Böhmer will find solace in "Beautiful," a melodic house masterstroke. Here, feathery vocals from Malou invite you to close your eyes and let your imagination paint the world in vibrant hues, even when the darkness seems overwhelming. The same goes for "Memory Cassettes," a vintage Böhmer track that bottles nostalgia like the cartridges of its namesake. Out now via Ninja Tune, Bloom is Böhmer's third studio album and first since 2021's Begin Again. You can listen below and find the album on streaming platforms here. Justice and Tame Impala's "Neverender" Receives Dazzling Remixes From Kaytranada and Rampa
Justice and Tame Impala's "Neverender" has already captured the hearts of fans with its soaring synths and aching lyricism. With Kaytranada and Rampa stepping in for remix duties, this standout from the French powerhouse duo's latest album Hyperdrama has been reborn as a dual exploration of house music's fluid textures. Kaytranada and Rampa, both giants in their own right, have reimagined "Neverender" in ways that imbue depth into the song's emotional core while taking it into their respective house-driven realities. Both official remixes uphold the emotional weight of Justice’s original vision, but channel it through their own unique lenses. Kaytranada's rework embraces the lush, atmospheric quality that fans have come to love. While the original "Neverender" pulses with the gritty, electro-rock textures that define much of Hyperdrama, the renowned producer trims down its distorted edges. Kaytranada's remix still retains the uplifting energy of the original, but swaps the intensity for an elegant, breezy groove. Meanwhile, Keinemusik's Rampa steers the single into his distinctive Afro-house style with layers of dynamic percussion that ripple like waves, each beat carrying a deep, meditative energy. The track's vocals echo over long delays, simmering over a relaxed beat as bright pads pulse gently beneath. His interpretation is not only rhythmic but also deeply atmospheric, allowing "Neverender" to breathe in a new way, as if the song is suspended in a moment of reflection. The remixes arrive alongside the official "Neverender" music video, produced by Cekai. Directed by Masanobu Hiraoka with Kota Iguchi (Tokyo 2020 Olympics) and Armand Beraud (IRIS, A Space Opera by Justice), the anime-inspired incorporates Art Nouveau aesthetics. "The 'Neverender' music video gave us the perfect opportunity to channel many of our visual influences, all while making them more distinctive through Masanobu Hiraoka’s unique reinterpretation," Justice said in a press release. "Together with longtime collaborators Pascal Teixeira and Armand Beraud, we drew initial inspiration from the title sequences of the 1980s anime we grew up on, which set the visual tone for the video." "From there, other key images from our teenage years naturally came into play," the duo continued. "Whether it was the work of Moebius, psychedelic art, graphic novels, or iconic film posters that fascinated us, Masanobu’s style seamlessly absorbed and unified them all." After nearly a year of teases, Ray Volpe has finally released his long-awaited track "GAME OVER." As you might imagine from the title, "GAME OVER" is inspired by the sounds of classic video games. Meduso has released a new EP, Synchronic, delivering a four-track stunner inspired by stories from his past. Plunge Into the Depths of ToMix's Dark House Music in New EP, "Feel Da / I'm Ready"
ToMix invites us down the rabbit hole of his unique sound in his new two-track EP, Feel Da / I'm Ready. Having released records on venerated dance labels like Tchami's Confession, Don Diablo's Generation HEX and Laidback Luke's Mixmash Deep, ToMix is quickly making a name for himself in the house music scene. His music has also received support from Hardwell, David Guetta, Marshmello, DJ Snake, Malaa and many more. A compelling blend of minimal, textured production and dark sound design, the EP is a sonic blade that cuts through the noise of today's saturated house music. There Are No ‘FEARS’ That Aussi Producer GONE MAGIC’s Latest Single Is Sure To Be A Hit + Artist Interview
Aussie house producer GONE MAGIC’s latest single ‘FEARS,’ was born out of a moment of intense frustration and artistic disconnect. After a weekend of failed attempts at writing music, he found himself sitting in his studio late on a Sunday night, feeling disheartened and felt the ‘FEARS’ of writer’s block start to settle in. In a moment of clarity, he decided to let go of his anxieties and simply open himself to whatever inspiration might come. Suddenly, creativity flowed, and within a few hours, 90% of the track was produced, thus capturing that authentic and deeply emotive sound. Over the next few months, GONE MAGIC meticulously refined the remaining elements of ‘FEARS,’ crafting a track that embodies the power of rejecting worries and embracing passion. GETTING TO KNOW GONE MAGIC Explain what musical genre fits you best House/dance Were you connected with music from a young age and did anyone inspire you? Absolutely. Music has always been an escape and form of expression for me, regardless of form. Growing up I always used to make up songs as my dad was in a band and i wanted to be like him. What kickstarted your music career? Getting my first laptop and teaching myself how to produce music. From there I just haven’t looked back! Tell us more about your sound and how it’s evolved over time I first started off as a rapper/producer in my teens, writing beats and then performing the raps to go alongside it. As a producer I always kept an open mind when it came to the production side of things, I have a very diverse music taste and would always try to draw elements from whatever I was listening to at the time and incorporate that into my music. As I finished highschool and struggled to find work in the music industry I decided I would learn how to DJ as a way to perform and begin to make a living off music as it was my dream. As my DJ career began I started experimenting with making dance music, as I’ve always loved listening to it and going to festivals. Slowly my production style started to shift, especially as I entered different phases of life and used music as a way to express myself. My venture into being a electronic artist has really been about being able to capture deep, emotive sounds that contain elements from all types of music, whether its sounds, production styles or overall energy in such a way that my listeners can feel it in their soul. Any words you want to share to encourage other artists or producers? Don’t hold onto an identity if you feel a calling for something else. I struggled at first, making a switch from being a rapper/producer to a house DJ as I felt that I was almost betraying myself in a way. Over time I have come to realise that it was just a calling for me to create something far better and amazing and being able to let go of who I thought I was has lead me to develop my skills and passion as an artist. How do you nurture your industry relationships? I try to build genuine human connection with everyone I work with. Don’t treat people like business transactions, try get to know someone outside of a business relationship because we would all rather help a friend rather than a stranger, even if you’ve never met face to face. Is there anyone you’d like to thank that’s been crucial to your journey? Probably my mum, she is my number 1 fan and critic. Name 3 songs you love and what they mean to you + Youtube links First one is actually an album: “The North Borders” by Bonobo I have listened to this album more than any other musical piece in my life. It has been something I turn to in times of both happiness and sadness. A true masterpiece. Simon Green (Bonobo) is one of my all time favourite artists and I draw a lot of my creative inspiration from him. “Vincent Price” by Phonique This is one of the first songs that REALLY got me into house music. I heard this track in my early teens and would listen to it on repeat for HOURS. I always get a bit nostalgic when I listen to it now as it feels like this was partly where my music career began. “Time” by Hans Zimmer Quite possibly one of the best compositions EVER. I remember watching Inception for the first time and hearing the theme feeling such a visceral response from the music that I can’t listen to the song without getting goosebumps. I love this track because it is how music is meant to make us feel! What’s your favourite piece of studio equipment or software? Definitely my Sidechain plug-in “Kickstart 2” by Nicky Romero. It has so many creative applications aside from laying kick + bass and I use it on every track without fail. Best money I ever spent. Name your favourite club or festival and how it makes you feel Tomorrowland. I think for me it’s the idea of it. When I think of being a Dj and the whole “dream” side of things, Tomorrowland is the pinnacle that we all strive for. Just thinking about it makes my heart race and gives me the chills. One day i’ll play on the Tomorrowland stage, you guys just watch! Name an outlandish rider request? Might seem weird but don’t use fitted sheets. Nothing worse than coming back to your room when you’re ready for bed and having to pull a million covers off and pull out a sheet that feels like its been superglued to the mattress… huge pet hate of mine haha. Favourite clubbing memory and who or what did it involve? Probably Earlier this year when I hosted a Boat Party. DJing, dancing and spending time with friends on a yacht in the middle of summer was an experience I’ll never forget. We all felt like superstars that day. What famous quote represents you best? “The person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be” – Ralph Waldo Emerson If you could play at any venue, where would it be and why? Boiler Room. The energy in that place is out of this world! Music is….. (explain more) A way for us to connect irregardless of age, language, national borders and lifetime. One song you really couldn’t live without and why? “Waiting” by Oliver Heldens. It’s such a funky, feel good track that makes me want to dance every time I listen. Namedrop your favourite 5 artists or DJs (past or present) Bonobo, Chris Lake, David Guetta, Tiesto, Oliver Heldens What was your first music memory and how did it fuel your fire? Watching my dad perform in a band. It lit a spark in me that hasn’t gone out, giving me a love for music. Tell us more about your plans for the future I’m currently working on an Ep which I hope to have ready for release by the end of the year. Any worldly advice you’d like to share? Don’t compare yourself to others. It can be hard with social media these days but if you can look back and confidently say “I’m better than who I was yesterday and I’ve come further than I ever thought, who cares what everyone else is doing” then you’ll find it much easier to be happy and grateful for your life. We only have one life so we might as well live it trying to pursue our dreams… better to try and fail than live with the regret of never trying. Rapper Diddy’s Streams Through The Roof After Abuse Allegations
Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has been the subject of recent controversy due to serious allegations against him. Despite these accusations — in fact, one could argue “due to” these accusations —, his music streaming numbers have seen a significant increase, ever since his arrest. Many people have shown increased interest in Diddy’s music, likely driven by curiosity, and a desire to understand who the artist on the news is. The allegations against him have sparked discussions and debates, leading to a surge in his online presence. It’s a notable phenomenon that despite the negative publicity surrounding Diddy, his music has gained popularity. This could be attributed to several factors, including the public’s fascination with celebrity scandals and the enduring appeal of his music. Since his arrest, almost 18.3 percent more people have streamed his music than a week earlier. Sean Combs has several aliases, including Puff Daddy and P. Diddy in addition to Diddy. And music analytics shows that all of these have increased after the incident. As more details about the case emerge, it remains to be seen how this will impact Diddy’s career and public perception. However, this is not the first time he’s faced court and controversies, as it’s been a constant throughout his years active in the music industry. Lost Souls of Saturn Announce Groundbreaking Immersive Comic Book Experience in Los Angeles
Lost Souls of Saturn (LSOS)—the visionary duo composed of Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa, along with select collaborators—are redefining the boundaries of music, technology, and storytelling. LSOS seamlessly blends these elements into a singular, immersive experience, challenging the conventional format boundaries. To date, their creative transmissions have spanned vinyl records, digital media, art installations, artefacts, augmented reality (AR), 360-degree video, and live performances. Now, with the release of their latest album, Reality, LSOS continues their exploration of new media through an innovative venture: the comic book. In collaboration with renowned comic book artist and AR pioneer Rob Shields and Abstract Comics co-founder Mike Bundlie, LSOS has crafted a revolutionary new type of comic book—one that transcends traditional formats. These comic pages offer a dual experience: they can be appreciated in their physical form or enhanced through cutting-edge AR technology, creating a multi-sensory fusion of sight and sound. When viewed through the LSOS mobile app, each page and panel comes to life in animated 3D, with an evolving LSOS soundtrack synchronised perfectly to the narrative. This pioneering integration of dynamic music and visual storytelling offers readers an entirely new form of artistic synesthesia. Taking this groundbreaking concept even further, LSOS has partnered with W1 Curates, a prominent public art platform, to present their comic book series as part of a fully immersive exhibition—a first for the comic book world. Following the highly praised debut of this exhibition at W1 Curates’ Oxford Street gallery in London in February 2024 and a pop-up show at the Glastonbury Festival in June, LSOS and W1 Curates are now bringing this extraordinary experience to Los Angeles in October for a special presentation. The private view on Thursday, October 10th, will feature the U.S. live debut of Lost Souls of Saturn and mark the official U.S. release of these highly anticipated physical and digital comic books.
