Lane 8 Details How His Own Kids Created the Artwork for New Album, "Childish"
Who needs expensive design firms when you can just recruit seven-year-olds to do your graphic design? Lane 8 is celebrating last week's release of his wondrous new album, Childish, the cover of which features a goofy cartoon face made out of Perler beads. In a new thread looking back at the creation of the record, the deep house superstar opened up about how its artwork was created by his own kids. The influential deep house producer, whose real name is Daniel Goldstein, explains that the title "Childish" had merely been an idea until he saw his children making crafts on a Sunday morning. At that point, one of the creations made him realize that he and their mother had landed on the album's concept and art. pic.twitter.com/M58A8hZr5S — Lane 8 (@Lane8music) October 1, 2024 The artwork and Perler bead designs created by Goldstein's kids were then used to formulate the music video for the album's titular track. Check out the whimsical video, which was directed by Patrick Atkins, below. Goldstein is now giving fans a chance to channel their inner child by virtue of a new initiative launched on his website. Inspired by the work of his children, fans can recreate the cover art of Childish with new colors and designs before sharing their work to a gallery on Lane 8's website. Childish released September 27th, 2024 via Lane 8's own record label, This Never Happened. You can listen to the full album below and find it on streaming platforms here. [WATCH] Above & Beyond Share Peak-Time Deep Set At Anjunadeep Open Air London
This is pure A&B greatness, but with a few BPMs taken away. Mmmmm. It took a while, a bit of hype, an amount of FOMO I’m ashamed to admit, but at last, here we are. You might be familiar with the news that Above & Beyond debuted their first-ever Peak-Time Deep set at a festival a few weeks ago in London. Well, now their historic set at Finsbury Park, where Anjunadeep Open Air London took place, is out on YouTube, in full length. Of course, this is far from being Above & Beyond’s first-ever Deep Set, as it’s become a tradition by now that they themselves open their milestone ABGT gigs with an hourlong deep set. But that’s in the place of warmer-ups. Here, in contrast, the earlier acts warmed up the room for them, and the A&B boys, in this case Jono and Tony, truly delivered. The Deep Set Of course, the set couldn’t be quite so deep, in first place because the boys closed the night, but also because, well, it’s A&B, so they really experimented walking down the seam between Deep and Progressive, and Progressive Trance even. The set itself is a combination of Anjunadeep’s greatest, and their own productions in slower BPMs. With that I mean to say, you can find tracks such as ANUQRAM’s remix of ‘Crazy Love’, both of their collabs with PROFF aka the recent Palermo / Fractals EP, iconic tracks such as Nox Vahn‘s ‘Brainwasher‘ and Joseph Ray‘s ‘Room 1.5‘, Yotto‘s legendary-by-now ‘Counting Down The Days‘ remix, and some special unreleased gems, such as Marsh‘s take on ‘Sun In Your Eyes‘, and a very, VERY special take on A&B’s Tranquility Base anthem, ‘Razorfish‘, courtesy of rising star Yeadon. Watch the video in full below. And if you dare spoil yourself, have a peek at the tracklist below. Happy listening! PROFF – Love On A Real Train (Tangerine Dream Cover) Durante feat. HANA – Hot Night (Khen Remix) Above & Beyond feat. Zoë Johnston – Crazy Love (ANUQRAM Extended Mix) Above & Beyond and PROFF – Fractals Above & Beyond and Justine Suissa – Almost Home (Above & Beyond Extended Deep Mix) Above & Beyond and PROFF – Palermo Jakatta – American Dream (PROFF Interpretation) Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford – On My Way To Heaven (Nox Vahn Remix) JODA feat. Robyn Sherwell – Closer (Simon Doty Extended Remix) Joseph Ray – Room 1.5 Above & Beyond vs. Andy Moor – Air For Life (Dosem Extended Mix) Above & Beyond feat. Gemma Hayes – Counting Down The Days (Yotto Remix) Above & Beyond – Sun In Your Eyes (Marsh Remix) Above & Beyond pres. Tranquility Base – Razorfish (Yeadon Remix) Above & Beyond pres. OceanLab – Sirens Of The Sea (Marsh Remix) Nox Vahn – Brainwasher Above & Beyond – Alone Tonight (Above & Beyond’s Deep Dive) The post [WATCH] Above & Beyond Share Peak-Time Deep Set At Anjunadeep Open Air London appeared first on EDMTunes.

Japanese Techno Artist Chizawa Q Announces New Album on R&S, Debuts First Single “Beluga”
The discovery of fresh talent is the heartbeat of the music scene, fueling innovation and pushing boundaries. Japanese producer and DJ Chizawa Q raises the bar with his unique approach and masterful soundscapes, distinguishing himself from the crowd. Fans will be thrilled by his return to R&S Records with the highly anticipated album ‘Xenoverse’, led by the release of the first single, ‘Beluga’. In a recent announcement Chizawa Q makes his long-awaited return to R&S Records, with his upcoming album ‘Xenoverse’ and releasing its lead single, a collaboration with Masaki Sakamoto ‘Beluga’ which is already garnering widespread industry support. A key figure on the pioneering Belgian label since his ‘Lost Asia’ EP in 2006—revived with a fresh mix in 2022—Chizawa’s return highlights R&S’s commitment to supporting visionary artists. Renowned for breaking the mold, R&S has always pushed electronic music to new heights, and Chizawa Q’s new work fits right into that legacy. ‘Beluga’ sets the tone with a dark, tribal rhythm and deep, haunting vocals, laying the groundwork for an immersive sonic journey. Rolling loops and shuffling hi-hats drive the track forward, while jazzy stabs create a dynamic groove that feels both retro and contemporary. Influences from Detroit techno legends like Underground Resistance and Kenny Larkin, along with European innovators like Steve Rachmad and Dave Angel, are evident throughout ‘Beluga’. It’s a track that honors the classics while pushing the genre forward. This isn’t typical techno built around predictable drops. It’s a sophisticated fusion of electronic soundscapes and jazz-inspired experimentation. Chizawa Q’s innovative approach perfectly aligns with R&S’s ethos of championing bold, cutting-edge musicians over mainstream trends. The trippy, noir-inspired visuals in the ‘Beluga’ music video reflect the track’s abstract and avant-garde tone, adding another layer to its creative depth. With ‘Xenoverse’ on the horizon, fans can expect a deep dive into diverse electronic territories. Featuring collaborations with artists like Masaki Sakamoto, Kowalewski, and Dan Sama, along with remixes by Makoto Shimizu, Chizawa Q is at the forefront of Japan’s rapidly growing electronic scene. ‘Beluga’ offers just a glimpse of the emotional and sonic richness the album promises to deliver. Auction of Avicii's Personal Belongings Raises $700,000 for Suicide Prevention Efforts
An extremely rare auction of Avicii's personal belongings has raised over $700,000 in support of his family's efforts to advocate for suicide prevention. Fans of Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, were able to place bids to own a tangible memory of the iconic DJ, who in 2018 tragically died by suicide at the age of 28. Presented by Stockholms Auktionsverk, which claims to be the world's oldest auction house, the collection included sneakers, clothes, musical instruments and other memorabilia owned by Bergling. 267 of his personal items hit the auction block on October 1st and all proceeds will benefit the Tim Bergling Foundation, a philanthropic organization launched in the wake of his death to provide support for young people experiencing mental health issues. The totality of items sold ultimately amounted to 7,732,805 SEK—approximately $695,952 USD based on current conversion rates—with bids from over 40 countries, according to a press release shared with EDM.com. "We are very happy with the outcome of yesterday's charity auction, and the funds these items have generated will help us in our continued work for young people's mental health and well-being," said Stefan Rudels, acting director of The Tim Bergling Foundation. Among the most sought-after items was Bergling's Martin Custom X Series acoustic guitar, which sold for 280,000 SEK (roughly $25,500 USD) and his 2015 Fender Telecaster, which was auctioned off for 240,000 SEK (roughly $22,000 USD) after "intense telephone bidding." Avicii's 2015 Fender Telecaster.Stockholms Auktionsverk Elsewhere in the auction, a personal DJ setup of Bergling's sold for over $11,000 USD. An electronic music collector's dream, the lot comprised two Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus DJ Multi-Players and a Pioneer DJM-900 Nexus Mixer in their original black cases. Other highlights included a pair of Sennheiser headphones for 80,000 SEK (roughly $7,000 USD), a Pink Dolphin Cap for 70,000 SEK (roughly $6,000 USD) and a New Era Miami Marlins cap for 50,000 SEK (roughly $4,500 USD). Stockholms Auktionsverk "It feels fantastic to convey this significant amount to The Tim Bergling Foundation," added Cecilia Gave, CEO of Stockholms Auktionsverk. "With this auction, we once again confirm that Stockholms Auktionsverk is the given choice when it comes to selling unique collections. We are very pleased to see how The Avicii Collection has also appealed to a younger audience. Many here in the hall have placed their very first auction bids today, and it feels very honorable for us to be a part of that." You can view the full auction catalog and images here.

Zedd Debut Album ‘Clarity’ Has Turned 12 Years Old
Twelve years ago, on October 2, 2012, Zedd released his debut album ‘Clarity’, marking the beginning of a new era in electronic dance music. At just 23 years old, Zedd, born Anton Zaslavski, signed with Interscope Records and made waves with his energetic productions and undeniable ear for catchy hooks. The album introduced the world to his unique blend of progressive house and pop, catapulting him into the spotlight. The album’s breakout single, ‘Spectrum’ featuring Matthew Koma, quickly became a progressive house anthem, setting the stage for the album’s massive success. However, it was the title track, ‘Clarity’ featuring Foxes, that became Zedd’s defining hit. Topping the charts, ‘Clarity’ was the most played song on American radio in 2013 and earned a platinum certification, cementing Zedd’s place among the industry’s top producers. ‘Clarity’ wasn’t just a collection of dance hits—it was a genre-blurring masterpiece that combined Zedd’s classical music background with modern electronic sounds. Following its success, Zedd embarked on a worldwide tour, and his career only continued to rise, working with global superstars like Selena Gomez, Alessia Cara, and Katy Perry. As we celebrate the 12th anniversary of ‘Clarity’, the album remains a cornerstone of EDM, influencing countless artists and shaping the sound of the 2010s. Its impact is still felt today, with Zedd continuing to innovate and inspire through his music.

Avicii 2nd Album ‘Stories’ Has Turned 9 Years Old

Riding the wave of his global hits like ‘Wake Me Up’, ‘Hey Brother’, and ‘Addicted To You’, Avicii took his sound to new heights with ‘Stories’, blending electronic dance music with pop, folk, and rock influences. The album demonstrated his versatility as a producer and his ability to craft emotionally resonant tracks that transcended genres. ‘Stories’ featured standout collaborations with major artists, including Chris Martin of Coldplay, Wyclef Jean, Robbie Williams, and Zac Brown. One of the album’s biggest hits, ‘Waiting For Love’, became an instant classic and remains one of Avicii‘s most successful tracks to date. The album also included ‘The Nights’ and ‘For a Better Day’, further showcasing Avicii’s signature blend of uplifting melodies and powerful lyrics. As we reflect on the 9th anniversary of ‘Stories’, it stands as a testament to Avicii’s incredible talent and his impact on the world of electronic music. His ability to innovate and push boundaries made him a true pioneer in the industry. While he tragically passed away in April 2018, his legacy lives on through his music, and ‘Stories’ remains a shining example of his brilliance. Cedric Gervais and Nile Rodgers reimagine Sister Sledge’s timeless hit ‘We Are Family’
In an era where nostalgia is currency and remixes are a dime a dozen, Cedric Gervais and Nile Rodgers have achieved the near-impossible: they’ve created a reimagining that not only pays homage to a classic but propels it into the future with startling relevance. Their take on Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family” is less a remix and more a rebirth, a phoenix rising from the ashes of disco to soar over today’s EDM landscape. From the first beat, it’s clear that this is no mere facelift of a beloved anthem. The production is a masterclass in balance – throbbing basslines and shimmering synths elevate the chorus to new heights without overshadowing the original’s soul. But it’s the interplay between Gervais’ modern touch and Rodgers’ timeless funk that truly makes this remix shine. Rodgers, a living legend whose guitar licks have defined generations of music, doesn’t just lend his name to the project – his unmistakable rhythmic patterns serve as the track’s beating heart. It’s a reminder that some grooves are eternal, transcending eras and genres with effortless cool. “We Are Family” has always been a song of unity, but in Gervais and Rodgers’ hands, it becomes an anthem for our fractured times. As Rodgers notes, the message grows more powerful with each passing year, and this version feels like a musical balm for a world in need of healing. It’s a reminder that on the dancefloor, at least, we can all come together. In lesser hands, this remix could have been a cynical cash-grab, a lazy attempt to capitalize on nostalgia. Instead, Gervais and Rodgers have created something that honors the past while boldly stepping into the future. It’s a track that will likely bridge generational gaps, inspiring those who remember the original to dust off their leisure suits, while introducing a new generation to the joys of classic disco through a contemporary lens. Ganja White Night and Tape B drop highly-anticipated collab ‘Ganja Tape’
Ganja White Night and Tape B’s hotly anticipated collaboration “Ganja Tape” emerges as a formidable contender for the genre’s throne. This union between the established wobble wizards Ganja White Night and Tape B is less a meeting of minds and more a collision of sonic universes. The track opens with the now-iconic call-and-response, “Yo Tape B! Yes, Ganja,” a vocal sample that’s become a rallying cry for bass heads nationwide. It’s a clever bit of branding, instantly recognizable and meme-worthy, ensuring the track’s virality before the first wobble even hits. This intro sets the stage for what follows: a masterclass in tension and release that’s become the hallmark of modern dubstep. Ganja White Night’s signature “wobble” is present in full force, a sound that’s become immediately identifiable in the bass music world. It’s a testament to their artistry that this sound remains fresh, even as it’s become ubiquitous. Tape B, not to be outdone, infuses the track with his own brand of sonic alchemy. His contributions are most evident in the intricate sound design that weaves through the drops, adding layers of complexity that reward repeated listens. The track’s structure follows the well-worn path of build-drop-repeat, but it’s in the details where “Ganja Tape” truly shines. Each drop is a carefully crafted explosion of low-end theory, designed to test the limits of festival sound systems, car subwoofers and your eardrums. The interplay between Ganja White Night’s more organic wobbles and Tape B’s digital manipulations creates a tension that drives the track forward, never allowing the listener a moment of complacency. It’s a track that knows its audience and delivers precisely what they want, with enough flair to stand out in a crowded field. Whether it has the staying power to truly be the bass music song of the year remains to be seen, but for now, it’s a potent reminder of why these artists are at the forefront of their genre. Ministry of Sound Brings Back 1991 Prices For 33rd Anniversary
Ministry of Sound, the iconic London club, is turning 33 this season. To commemorate its life, and the way it has shaped the Dance industry ever since, they are bringing back the clubbing prices of 1991. Over the next year, the London club will release 20,000 event tickets for just £5 each. In addition to the discounted ticket prices, Ministry of Sound will also be offering drinks at yesteryear prices from 10 pm to midnight every single night. This nod to the club’s early days is a way to celebrate its history and make clubbing more accessible for a new generation. “Let’s talk about the elephant (& castle) in the club — the UK’s shrinking late-night scene. We see the stats, and we’re not standing idly by“, the club mentions. “Our mission? Keep clubbing accessible, and affordable for Gen Z, Alphas, Betas, and anyone who believes in the power of club culture. Here’s to the next 33 years of culture, sound, and breaking rules“. Last weekend, Mella Dee, Carista, Cici, and Groove Armada kicked off the celebrations — and the old prices —, all centered around the venue’s anniversary. Ministry of Sound has expressed concern about the shrinking late-night scene in the UK. By offering affordable ticket prices and drinks, the club aims to keep clubbing accessible and enjoyable for everyone. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Ministry of Sound website. [H/T] Mixmag The post Ministry of Sound Brings Back 1991 Prices For 33rd Anniversary appeared first on EDMTunes.

Zamna drops March Of Avalon EP with Sevenn, Jono Stephenson
Besides delivering world-class events, Zamna also has its own music label. This month, Zamna Records welcomed Sevenn, Jono Stephenson, and Liu Bei for the March Of Avalon EP. Right from the beginning, the introduction with its magical and gloomy components produces an interesting mood. For the audience, this decision creates a mystery and expectation. A deft production approach is the change into a dreamy, cinematic soundscape for the collapse. It most certainly offers the tune a moment of emotional depth and contrast. After this break, the change to synth-driven melodic techno beats most certainly has a strong effect. For both emotional involvement and dancefloor intensity, this arrangement – creating tension with darker components, releasing into a dramatic break, and then dropping into strong melodic techno – seems quite good. “Cold World” has a more melodic quality, implying another emotional tone than “March of Avalon”. Adding vocals gives still another degree of complexity and possible audience engagement. In melodic techno, vocals can be used for anything from a lyrical topic to texture to another melodic part in themselves. There seems to be a careful contrast between these two tracks. With its musical focus and vocal element, “Cold World” might provide a more instantaneous emotional connection; “March of Avalon” seems to be more about creating an epic, maybe a darker trip. It’s always pretty interesting how, instead of releasing a whole EP package, only on Spotify, the release is split in two singles. Doc Backer gets the R3HAB remix treatment on hit single ‘Tequila’
In the ever-churning world of EDM remixes, where chart-toppers are reborn as dancefloor anthems with clockwork regularity, R3HAB’s take on Doc Backer’s “Tequila” arrives with the subtlety of a shot glass slammed on a bar top. The Dutch-Moroccan producer, known for his Midas touch in transforming pop hits into club weapons, approaches Backer’s track with his trademark bravado and a toolkit of production elements that have served him well over the years. R3HAB’s remix is a masterclass in crowd-pleasing predictability. The original’s essence is distilled and then liberally spiked with pulsating beats and soaring synths that wouldn’t feel out of place in any main stage set from the past decade. It’s a formula that works, much like the drink it’s named after – you know exactly what you’re getting, and it delivers the desired effect with ruthless efficiency. The remix’s strength lies in its unabashed embrace of EDM excess. R3HAB cranks up the energy to 11, transforming “Tequila” from a mere song into a sensory assault designed to whip festival crowds into a frenzy. The drops hit like a wave of bass, washing over listeners with the subtlety of a tidal wave. It’s the audio equivalent of a neon sign, impossible to ignore and designed to draw you in. Studio Survival: The Widdler
Reason 12 by Reson Studios Hey UKF crew! Let’s talk music. I get asked about the gear that I use a lot. In reality, the only real gear I use is a MIDI keyboard and Reason 12. That’s all I need. Reason 12 is my go-to DAW because it’s super fast and easy to use. I love how quickly I can get my ideas down and start playing around with them. The way Reason’s interface is set up helps me move from one idea to the next without getting stuck, which is key when I want to turn spontaneous thoughts into music fast. Having a midi keyboard is also crucial for working fast because you don’t have to waste time fiddling with the piano roll. One of the best things about Reason is its synths. They’ve got this unique sound that really nails the old-school dubstep vibe. Many of the old tunes you might know even have loads of reason synth presets in them! Since Reason didn’t have VST support for many years, I was limited to only the stock reason synths, and got to know them very well. When it comes to making my tracks loud and punchy, the VST Saturate plugin is my favourite. It’s simple to use and gets the job done in about 3 clicks of the mouse. Just a bit of saturate gives my mixes a really nice gluing and giving me loudness without compromising dynamics. Another must-have in my setup is the VST Pro-Q equalizer. It’s a game-changer for making sure everything in my mix sounds clear and balanced. Pro-Q is easy to use and lets me make precise adjustments to each track, which helps everything fit together nicely. If you check my projects you will see it on almost every track. When it comes down to it, I use Reason because that’s what I have always used. So, it is my all-in-one gear toolkit.

Google's Self-Driving Waymo Cars Appear to Stall, Block Traffic Out of Portola Festival
The future of transportation hit a speed bump over the weekend outside San Francisco's Portola Music Festival, where at least two of Google's autonomous Waymo vehicles appeared to malfunction and block traffic. The two-day electronic music festival returned to Pier 80 on Saturday, September 28th with a lineup featuring RÜFÜS DU SOL, Gesaffelstein and Justice, among others. Many festivalgoers on Sunday night reported unexpected delays due to a number of stalled Waymo cars heading westbound on Cesar Chavez Street. "The shuttle line was completely backed up and we had to exit the shuttle," one frustrated attendee said in a post on X. @PortolaFestival @Waymo #BanWaymo. On the way out of the festival an entire line of traffic turning north on Caesar Chavez was blocked by two waymo vehicles that were stalled. the shuttle line was completely backed up and we had to exit the shuttle. pic.twitter.com/0M33NbJZ6o — Alex Walker (@steeleranger1) September 29, 2024 One shuttle was stuck for over 30 minutes, another passenger said. An irate attendee has now urged Portola's organizers, Goldenvoice, to ban Waymo from the festival's grounds in a thread created on the r/PortolaFestival subreddit. There, a person who claims to have been a passenger in one of the immobilized Waymo cars responded. "I was in one of THE Waymo's that f***ed up traffic on one of the side streets," the passenger wrote. "We were doing everything that we could to get it to move, but support wouldn't do anything." On our way out of @PortolaFestival we got mega stuck behind two confused @Waymo cars. Thanks guys, great work letting them loose when there’s a major music festival going on in the city ❤️ pic.twitter.com/39TBSQuVh5 — Nima (@heythereitsnima) September 29, 2024 Waymo, which is considered the world's preeminent autonomous vehicle company, uses a combination of AI, lidar and machine learning to navigate city streets. Despite being a market leader, the company faces ongoing challenges in technology refinement and regulatory hurdles as it aims to scale its operations. Alphabet, Google's parent company, invested $5 billion in Waymo in July. Morgan Stanley analysts in 2021 valued the self-driving unit at $175 billion but ultimately slashed that figure down to $105 billion. The Financial Times at the time reported the valuation was actually closer to $30 billion. Waymo has not yet publicly commented on the Portola Music Festival ordeal at the time of this writing.
