Dancing With Darcy: The Eerie Urban Legend at the Heart of the 2024 BOO Seattle Festival
There aren't many music festivals that quicken the pulse quite like BOO Seattle. Insomniac's Halloween-themed festival annually invites the Pacific Northwest's electronic music community to rave to the grave, but 2024 has the feel of something entirely different. A lot of themed festivals crumble under the weight of their own ambition, but with a tenured brand like Insomniac at the helm, attendees can expect a full-blown exorcism of the mundane. And this year, an eerie storyline is propelling BOO Seattle like a haunted hayride gone haywire. The story follows Darcy, an otherworldly spirit inspired by an urban legend of a girl who once disappeared into the forests around Lake Washington. "It is said one night she felt called into the moonlight’s embrace, but was led astray somewhere along her journey and vanished into the night," reads the festival's website. "Sometime later, she was summoned back to our world by ghost hunters in her shadowy new form—reborn as Seattle's descendent of the dark. To this day she roams the city at night, seeking the force of light that she lost so many moons ago." Frights aside, BOO Seattle, one of EDM.com's top Halloween festivals of the year, features a massive lineup in 2024. The two-day fest will feature performances by Kaskade, Rezz, ILLENIUM, Afrojack, Crankdat, SLANDER, Zomboy and Ray Volpe, among other influential electronic music acts. Other can't-miss sets will come from surging house artist Odd Mob, bass music virtuoso Hairitage and EDM.com Class of 2024 star Hedex. The lineup for the 2024 BOO Seattle festival features Kaskade, ILLENIUM, Afrojack and more.Insomniac Events These artists will perform across three unearthly stages: Dark Forest, Den of Darkness and The Lighthouse. Attendees can also expect a spate of onsite experiential activations and "paranormal activities," per Insomniac. BOO Seattle returns to the WaMu Theater October 25-26, 2024. Tickets to the 18+ festival are on sale now. In the meantime, check out the festival's official playlist below. AIAIAI Reveals "World's First" Wireless Headphones Designed for DJing
AIAIAI is getting ready to release an enhanced version of one of its most popular products. Coming soon to a club near you are the TMA-2 DJ Wireless ultra-low latency DJ headphones, which AIAIAI says is the first product of its kind. "DJs can confidently free themselves from the cable with no compromise," AIAIAI's website reads. The innovative audio tech manufacturer claims that typical Bluetooth headphones have a latency of around 250 ms while their W+ Link technology will bring the latency below 10 ms. In addition to the latency improvements, the company says the TMA-2 DJ Wireless weighs less than half a pound and will have a 25-hour battery life. AIAIAI also highlighted the headphones' noise cancellation capabilities, saying they are "tuned to clearly present bass and treble details in loud venues." They're also outfitted with on-ear cushions made from memory foam covered in soft PU leather so "high sound isolation blocks out unwanted noise." Ticketmaster Hacked, Users Report Stolen Tickets
Concertgoers have been reporting that their tickets have been mysteriously disappearing from their Ticketmaster accounts. This alarming issue has come to light following a data breach earlier this year. Victims of the ticket theft have reported losing tickets to various events, including concerts and musicals. Some have incurred significant financial losses due to the disappearance of their tickets. One victim, reported that her family lost over $1,200 in tickets that were transferred to an unknown account. Another one lost Pink concert tickets that she had received as a gift, and a third victim had her $3,500 Taylor Swift tickets stolen from her account. The increasing number of reports suggests that the data breach may have exposed a significant number of user accounts. The “ShinyHunters” hacker group claimed to have accessed 1.3 terabytes of data from Ticketmaster, including sensitive information like credit card numbers and payment details. The incident has led to a class-action lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster, alleging anticompetitive practices. Ticketmaster claims that user passwords were not compromised in the breach, but the growing number of affected users raises concerns about the security of the platform. *Cover image credit: Sora Shimazaki [H/T] Digital Music News The post Ticketmaster Hacked, Users Report Stolen Tickets appeared first on EDMTunes.

PREMIER: SHAB Follows Announcement Of 2nd Album With New Single ‘Swerve’
Hot on the heels of the announcement of her upcoming album, ‘One Suitcase’, SHAB releases her 2nd single from the album, ‘Swerve’. The single comes shortly after the release of ‘Afterglow’ and is a song that blends romance with a heavy club beat. Co-composed by Damon Sharpe, JHart, and SHAB herself, ‘Swerve’ delves into the excitement of a new romantic relationship, turning the initial uncertainties into a playful game for two. Pairing those romantic elements with a heavy club beat makes it an instantly addictive dance-floor filler, compelling listeners to move while also resonating on a deeper level. Its dark, edgy, and alluring vibe is meticulously crafted to captivate and enthral, creating an atmosphere that’s both thrilling and intimate. SHAB’s personal story is just as compelling as her music. She escaped Iran as a young girl, arriving in New York alone, speaking only Farsi and German. Despite those challenges, she graduated from university and briefly attended law school before pursuing music full-time. Now, SHAB is using her platform to advocate for women’s rights in Iran. Her career has been marked by major milestones. In 2023, SHAB’s collaboration with hip-hop legend Fat Joe on ‘VooDoo’ became a chart-topping sensation. Her debut album ‘Infinite Love’ earned critical praise, and she has continued to grow her fanbase globally with millions of streams and views. SHAB has also shined on stage, performing in international tours and opening for JLS during their 2023 arena tour. With her upcoming album ‘One Suitcase’, SHAB is set to continue her meteoric rise while inspiring others with her remarkable journey. ‘

Avicii’s Belongings Auction Raises $750,000 For Charity
An auction of items belonging to the late DJ Avicii has raised a significant sum for charity — in fact, the amount accrues to close to three-quarters of a million dollars ($750,000). The sale, held in Stockholm on Tuesday, happened at Auktionsverk in front of a crowded audience, and featured over 260 personal items, including clothing, instruments, and memorabilia. Bids poured in from around the world, with at least bidders from 40 countries. A 2015 Fender Telecaster was among the highest-grossing items, selling for SEK 240,000, or approximately $23,000. Other items that attracted high bids included a Martin acoustic guitar, headphones, a Miami Marlins cap, and a contact sheet of portraits by Mark Seliger. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, established in memory of Avicii. The foundation aims to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention among young people. Cecilia Gave, CEO of Stockholms Auktionsverk, expressed her satisfaction with the auction’s success and the Foundation’s ability to connect with a younger audience. Many fans shared their excitement about purchasing items related to Avicii, with one fan planning to display the leather jacket he bought in his music studio. We’re happy to see Avicii’s legacy over time has always gravitated, one way or another, to bringing the community together. We’re glad to call Tim one of the most influential acts EDM has ever had. Insider Interviews: Ben Soundscape X Collette Warren
After 12 years of gigging and touring the world together, Ben Soundscape and Collette Warren have finally come together for an EP- ‘Last Drop’, featuring 4 tracks ‘Remember You’, ‘Another Day’, ‘Last Drop’ & ‘Disco Ball’ set to drop October 18 on Intrigue Music. The EP is based on the culture of late nights, afterparties and touring, with ‘Remember You’ paying tribute to all the fallen soldiers we have lost. Exploring new sounds together and stepping out of their comfort zone, could this be a teaser for an album on the horizon? In this interview, Ben and Collette get together for a chat about how it all came together and why it’s taken so long to do a project like this together. Collette: So Ben, why exactly has it taken us so long to do a project like this together? Ben: I think it’s because we’ve been so busy with other stuff over the years and you’ve been working with lots of different artists. I’ve been working with different people as well as on my own. I think when we get together, we don’t always want to work together because we already perform together a lot. But when we sat down to make the first tune we were like, actually it’s not that hard. Let’s do more because it went really well! Collette: It’s a case of finding the time, and I feel like now’s the time to explore that further. The fact that, you know, we live together, it was easy because we can keep running up and down the stairs to the studio changing things, because usually I work with people remotely so that part is a lot harder to do. Ben: Yeah it’s become a lot easier with having the studio at home and the vocal booth, everything’s set up real nice and sounding good. It’s like, yeah, it’s the right time. In fact a little bit of inspiration for even starting this whole project was one of our friends who said “How come you don’t work more together on music” and that very night I started thinking actually yeah, why don’t we work more together? And so when we got home after that night, I think it was a techno night that we went to, we’re like, let’s get in the studio and see what happens! Ben: So let’s go through each track starting with, ‘Remember You’. So for that one, where did the lyrics come from? Collette: We both decided that, after the sad passing of Randall, we wanted to write a track about all the fallen soldiers we have lost in the scene, but not just the scene, in life in general. I just I feel like it’s an important thing to write about. Rather than it being remorseful and a sad song, we wanted it to be about like even though you’re not here, I’m always going to remember you, and “Look for me, and I’ll look for you” you know, “I’m always going to look up to the sky and see you smiling down on me”. Ben: People are always gonna be in our thoughts, their energy will be with us forever, and we tired to convey that in the tune. Collette: We also wanted to step out of our comfort zone. It’s a different style for you, especially as a producer. What made you want to do that more epic-sounding track? Ben: We wanted a range of styles on there, didn’t we, and to make that sort of big epic-sounding tune without it being cheesy but still kicks it in a club. Maximum impact with the amen break in there and the big bassline, you know, something that the big DJs would play, something that Marky would play. Collette: When we wrote it, we knew that Sun & Bass was coming up and one of the highlights is Marky playing one of your tunes, so we were like, “Let’s make something we think Marky will love, and hopefully he will play it at Sun & Bass!” And well dreams come true, as he does love it and he did play it at Sun & Bass, and I got to sing it live with him. Ben: That was a special moment, very proud of that. Smashed it! Collette: So the next track on the EP is ‘Another Day’ Let’s talk about this one. Ben:‘Another Day’ started with just a simple techno vibe, and the idea really was to to make the track about our travels, going from place to place, and the tour life involved in that. Traveling around America, getting all these flights and going from show to show and still trying to keep grounded, you know, and not letting it run away with you. Keep your feet on the ground. That was the inspiration. I made something which I think flows really nicely – lots of long bass notes and some distorted bass as well. Love the pads and stuff as well. Colette: As for the lyrics, I was imagining us when we’re travelling and when we’re in the sky on planes and about to touch down, and you know you’ve got to stay grounded and not let it go to your head. Sometimes you’re just absolutely shattered and the last thing you want to do is go and do a show, but, you just have to sort yourself out and get on with it. Ben: Because sometimes you haven’t slept for ages. I really love that track. I think it’s something different for both of us. Ben: So onto the the third track on the EP, it’s called ‘Last Drop’ which is actually the first track we did. Do you want to tell the story about how that one started? Collette: Originally with the vocal I’d worked on a track with another producer, but it didn’t end up working out, but I really liked the vocals and what it was about, and when we got in the studio together, I was like, oh, should we give these vocals a go? And you just found this pad to go with it and it was perfect really! So it’s basically all about going to an after-party because that is very much the culture in drum and bass. As soon as the night finishes, people want to carry on! So I wanted to touch on that really, just because the rave finishes at 2 or 4 or even 6, doesn’t mean the actual night ends and usually people want to go somewhere else after. Ben: Yeah exactly, so the last drop of the of the tune of the night isn’t the end! That’s where the track title comes from. We started with your vocal, I built an intro around it and then it sort of sat there for ages, and then it was that night when we came back from the techno night and we’re like, let’s actually try and get a beat in that tune, and you really helped with the bassline in terms of melodic input and style. So we actually wrote it together, which is the first time we’ve done that. It was really good fun and it all came together in one night, we must have started it at 2 in the morning, and I think we finished up around 7 in the morning, didn’t we? Collette:Yeah, so suits the whole ‘after party’ theme haha! Collette: So finally, we have ‘Disco Ball’. Do you want to talk about that? Ben: Disco ball was just experimenting with different sounds really, I found this old house vocal that said ‘disco ball’ in it, and I just sort of chopped it up and put it in there and then made the tune. And then I spoke to you about re-singing it, because then it’s like a different style for the EP. It’s not a full vocal track, but you’re still singing the sample. Collette: It’s different to anything I’ve done before, it’s because it’s almost got an American accent twang to it. We wanted at least one track to not be a full vocal, let the music do the talking. I just say a couple of things and a couple of ad-libs. Ben: We wanted a range, and we wanted something that was a bit different. You know, it’s quite minimal, then when it drops this crazy lead comes in. I was just having fun in the studio one night, just messing around with all these different sounds and distortion and just trying to get it to sound different to anything else. The lead that I made reminds me of someone riding a motorbike! ‘Last Drop’ EP is coming out on Intrigue of course, which is my label. It’s being released o October 18. across all digital outlets. Collette: And we’re actually going to be away on tour in the US whilst it comes out. So we’re taking it on the road! Oi Oiiiiiii! Ben: Yeah we’ve got 10 dates out there from east coast to west coast, some great cities – Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Washington, DC, Denver and many more. Also Submersion Festival which is really exciting. We’re going to be showcasing all of our tracks, looking forward to that one! Big up to all our stateside crew. Collette: Yeah and as we said, we really wanted to get it done by Sun & Bass because it is a pilgrimage for us. We go there every year and have done so for 15 years now, we actually met there, so it’s a special place for us! It was really great actually because we got to perform the EP in both our sets and it went down really well there. Ben: It was cool having a sort of deadline, wasn’t it? When we got back from America in July we started working on the EP, going back and forth, bouncing ideas, re-recording vocals getting it all wrapped up in time… Just about! Collette: Absolutely! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the EP, and maybe we will do album together next year if this goes down well haha? Ben: It’s on! Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this, and we can’t wait for you to hear the EP, if you haven’t heard it already. Big ups.

Sam Silver, ALRT, and Yona Unite Once Again On ‘Downtime’ ft. Leap96
Following the success of ‘Back It Up’ and ‘Again’ ft. Whiteroseemoxie and Yona, rising artist Sam Silver has announced the release of his latest single, ‘Downtime’ ft. Leap96, a collaboration with ALRT and French singer Yona. Released on September 27th 2024, ‘Downtime’ is the third track from Sam Silver‘s highly anticipated EP, ‘Leap 96’, which will be released on October 18th via TH3RD BRAIN Records. ‘Downtime’ brings a fresh, emotionally resonant sound, blending speed garage influences with smooth, evocative vocals. Perfect for both intimate lounges and high-energy dance floors, the track balances nostalgic emotions with an upbeat vibe. The distinctive vocal chop featured in the drop is truly an instant earworm, making it a perfect match for creators looking for trending audio. Sam Silver reflects on the inspiration behind the track saying, “Relationships are complex and circumstances can make our feelings inexplicably oscillate. Yearning for deep, meaningful connection amidst life’s challenges and uncertainties is a universal need. We wanted to present this balance in an emotional, yet fun song that everyone can relate to” Yona adds, “This song explores the intense emotions of a tumultuous relationship. It expresses the passion of loving someone who often feels distant, expressing a feeling of wanting to be loved even when they only want you at certain times. The lyrics reflect a desire to be accepted, and to find connection and validation in the midst of pressure and uncertainty.” The upcoming EP, ‘Leap 96’, is a collaborative effort between Sam Silver and ALRT, pulling from the rich sonic palette of the late 90s and early 2000s, when garage and drum & bass first hit the underground rave scene. The music combines vocal-driven dance tracks designed for both uptempo and downtempo environments. The title, ‘Leap 96’, is a nod to the middle year between Sam and ALRT’s birth years, which also happened to be a leap year. This collaboration is a testament to both artists’ backgrounds: ALRT brings his old-school rave influences, while Sam Silver adds flavors from the new-age garage, rap, and ethereal house scenes. The result is a unique fusion of garage, drum and bass, rap, and indie pop sensibility. Sam Silver and ALRT’s partnership began during a chance meeting at a Hollywood studio co-founded by renowned artist/producer JOYRYDE. What began as a casual co-writing session evolved into a two-month-long collaboration, leading to the creation of the four songs on the ‘Leap 96’ EP and more to come.

Lane 8 Details How His Own Kids Created the Artwork for New Album, "Childish"
Who needs expensive design firms when you can just recruit seven-year-olds to do your graphic design? Lane 8 is celebrating last week's release of his wondrous new album, Childish, the cover of which features a goofy cartoon face made out of Perler beads. In a new thread looking back at the creation of the record, the deep house superstar opened up about how its artwork was created by his own kids. The influential deep house producer, whose real name is Daniel Goldstein, explains that the title "Childish" had merely been an idea until he saw his children making crafts on a Sunday morning. At that point, one of the creations made him realize that he and their mother had landed on the album's concept and art. pic.twitter.com/M58A8hZr5S — Lane 8 (@Lane8music) October 1, 2024 The artwork and Perler bead designs created by Goldstein's kids were then used to formulate the music video for the album's titular track. Check out the whimsical video, which was directed by Patrick Atkins, below. Goldstein is now giving fans a chance to channel their inner child by virtue of a new initiative launched on his website. Inspired by the work of his children, fans can recreate the cover art of Childish with new colors and designs before sharing their work to a gallery on Lane 8's website. Childish released September 27th, 2024 via Lane 8's own record label, This Never Happened. You can listen to the full album below and find it on streaming platforms here. [WATCH] Above & Beyond Share Peak-Time Deep Set At Anjunadeep Open Air London
This is pure A&B greatness, but with a few BPMs taken away. Mmmmm. It took a while, a bit of hype, an amount of FOMO I’m ashamed to admit, but at last, here we are. You might be familiar with the news that Above & Beyond debuted their first-ever Peak-Time Deep set at a festival a few weeks ago in London. Well, now their historic set at Finsbury Park, where Anjunadeep Open Air London took place, is out on YouTube, in full length. Of course, this is far from being Above & Beyond’s first-ever Deep Set, as it’s become a tradition by now that they themselves open their milestone ABGT gigs with an hourlong deep set. But that’s in the place of warmer-ups. Here, in contrast, the earlier acts warmed up the room for them, and the A&B boys, in this case Jono and Tony, truly delivered. The Deep Set Of course, the set couldn’t be quite so deep, in first place because the boys closed the night, but also because, well, it’s A&B, so they really experimented walking down the seam between Deep and Progressive, and Progressive Trance even. The set itself is a combination of Anjunadeep’s greatest, and their own productions in slower BPMs. With that I mean to say, you can find tracks such as ANUQRAM’s remix of ‘Crazy Love’, both of their collabs with PROFF aka the recent Palermo / Fractals EP, iconic tracks such as Nox Vahn‘s ‘Brainwasher‘ and Joseph Ray‘s ‘Room 1.5‘, Yotto‘s legendary-by-now ‘Counting Down The Days‘ remix, and some special unreleased gems, such as Marsh‘s take on ‘Sun In Your Eyes‘, and a very, VERY special take on A&B’s Tranquility Base anthem, ‘Razorfish‘, courtesy of rising star Yeadon. Watch the video in full below. And if you dare spoil yourself, have a peek at the tracklist below. Happy listening! PROFF – Love On A Real Train (Tangerine Dream Cover) Durante feat. HANA – Hot Night (Khen Remix) Above & Beyond feat. Zoë Johnston – Crazy Love (ANUQRAM Extended Mix) Above & Beyond and PROFF – Fractals Above & Beyond and Justine Suissa – Almost Home (Above & Beyond Extended Deep Mix) Above & Beyond and PROFF – Palermo Jakatta – American Dream (PROFF Interpretation) Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford – On My Way To Heaven (Nox Vahn Remix) JODA feat. Robyn Sherwell – Closer (Simon Doty Extended Remix) Joseph Ray – Room 1.5 Above & Beyond vs. Andy Moor – Air For Life (Dosem Extended Mix) Above & Beyond feat. Gemma Hayes – Counting Down The Days (Yotto Remix) Above & Beyond – Sun In Your Eyes (Marsh Remix) Above & Beyond pres. Tranquility Base – Razorfish (Yeadon Remix) Above & Beyond pres. OceanLab – Sirens Of The Sea (Marsh Remix) Nox Vahn – Brainwasher Above & Beyond – Alone Tonight (Above & Beyond’s Deep Dive) The post [WATCH] Above & Beyond Share Peak-Time Deep Set At Anjunadeep Open Air London appeared first on EDMTunes.

Japanese Techno Artist Chizawa Q Announces New Album on R&S, Debuts First Single “Beluga”
The discovery of fresh talent is the heartbeat of the music scene, fueling innovation and pushing boundaries. Japanese producer and DJ Chizawa Q raises the bar with his unique approach and masterful soundscapes, distinguishing himself from the crowd. Fans will be thrilled by his return to R&S Records with the highly anticipated album ‘Xenoverse’, led by the release of the first single, ‘Beluga’. In a recent announcement Chizawa Q makes his long-awaited return to R&S Records, with his upcoming album ‘Xenoverse’ and releasing its lead single, a collaboration with Masaki Sakamoto ‘Beluga’ which is already garnering widespread industry support. A key figure on the pioneering Belgian label since his ‘Lost Asia’ EP in 2006—revived with a fresh mix in 2022—Chizawa’s return highlights R&S’s commitment to supporting visionary artists. Renowned for breaking the mold, R&S has always pushed electronic music to new heights, and Chizawa Q’s new work fits right into that legacy. ‘Beluga’ sets the tone with a dark, tribal rhythm and deep, haunting vocals, laying the groundwork for an immersive sonic journey. Rolling loops and shuffling hi-hats drive the track forward, while jazzy stabs create a dynamic groove that feels both retro and contemporary. Influences from Detroit techno legends like Underground Resistance and Kenny Larkin, along with European innovators like Steve Rachmad and Dave Angel, are evident throughout ‘Beluga’. It’s a track that honors the classics while pushing the genre forward. This isn’t typical techno built around predictable drops. It’s a sophisticated fusion of electronic soundscapes and jazz-inspired experimentation. Chizawa Q’s innovative approach perfectly aligns with R&S’s ethos of championing bold, cutting-edge musicians over mainstream trends. The trippy, noir-inspired visuals in the ‘Beluga’ music video reflect the track’s abstract and avant-garde tone, adding another layer to its creative depth. With ‘Xenoverse’ on the horizon, fans can expect a deep dive into diverse electronic territories. Featuring collaborations with artists like Masaki Sakamoto, Kowalewski, and Dan Sama, along with remixes by Makoto Shimizu, Chizawa Q is at the forefront of Japan’s rapidly growing electronic scene. ‘Beluga’ offers just a glimpse of the emotional and sonic richness the album promises to deliver.
