  2. A group of scientists is exploring an innovative solution that uses personalized music and wearable tech to disrupt stress before it leads to relapse in people with alcohol use disorder (AUD). Researchers from Washington State University, Arizona State University and the University of Southern California are testing "a new intervention" as part of a study involving music therapy to help manage stress, a primary trigger for relapse, according to WSU Insider. Funded by the National Institutes of Health's Sound Health initiative, the study is leveraging wristbands with the ability to detect physiological signs of stress, such as heart rate and sweat production, to automatically play personalized music playlists designed to reduce tension. The research builds on prior findings that suggest these wearable devices can accurately predict stressful triggers. "We want to take the next step and use those physiological signals to intervene and hopefully keep someone from seeking out alcohol to cope with stress," said Michael Cleveland, Professor at WSU's Department of Human Development. In the first phase, volunteers will wear the wristbands for two weeks and manually log moments of stress, which will help confirm the device's accuracy. The second phase introduces the musical element by requiring each participant to curate a playlist that best resonates with them emotionally. When the wristbands detect rising stress levels, these playlists will be triggered to help ease the tension and stave off cravings. Cleveland emphasizes that this intervention is not meant to replace traditional therapies, but rather complement them to provide an accessible, low-cost tool to manage stress. If successful, the research could unlock a powerful new way for individuals to manage AUD, bringing relief through the universal language of music. "Music has been shown to have a helpful effect on reducing stress," Cleveland said. "Research shows that stress relief is increased when people choose the music themselves. You might think that instrumental or classical music works best, but people generally know what will work for them." NIH is reportedly providing $1 million to cover the study's first phase for a period of two years. Pending positive results, a subsequent phase will trigger another three years and a $1.6 million funding round.

  6. On October 16, 2015, DJ Snake quietly disrupted the dance music universe with ‘Middle‘. But here’s the thing—this wasn’t just another EDM banger. This was a sonic curveball, sliding into our playlists when we least expected it, flipping the script on what an electronic hit could sound like. The mood? Laid-back. The energy? Understated. The impact? Unstoppable. Where most tracks in 2015’s electronic scene were about building tension and delivering explosive drops, ‘Middle’ found power in restraint. It didn’t need to knock you over. Instead, it pulled you in with something subtler—like the lyrical tug of “Staring at two different views on your window ledge.” It’s not a track that begs for attention; it’s a track that lives in your head rent-free, weeks after you hear it. And maybe that’s what made ‘Middle‘ so special. It didn’t just speak to the partygoers in the crowd—it spoke to the dreamers, the thinkers, the ones caught in between. That hook, “I hope we find our missing pieces and just chill,” wasn’t just a lyric; it was a vibe. It wasn’t about losing yourself in a beat, it was about finding yourself in the spaces between the beats. DJ Snake created a track that felt like the quiet between breaths, like the calm when you finally stop running. Sure, it had the sleek production that we’d come to expect from him, but there was something else: emotion. ‘Middle’ gave electronic music a beating heart. This was a song for the 2 a.m. thoughts, for the late-night drives, for those moments when life feels a little too loud and you just need a quiet anthem to get you through. Nine years later, ‘Middle‘ is still a vibe, still fresh, still capturing that magic sweet spot between melancholy and hope. It’s not a song for the crowd—it’s a song for you, for the moment when you need a little reminder that even when you’re stuck in life’s middle, there’s beauty in the waiting. And here’s the twist: ‘Middle‘ was never really about the middle at all. It was about motion. It was about the quiet revolutions happening in our lives, the kind we often miss because we’re waiting for something louder. But DJ Snake got it—and that’s why ‘Middle‘ still hits. Hard. So, throw on your headphones, crank up the volume, and let ‘Middle’ take you back to that space. Nine years might have passed, but the song still knows how to meet you right where you are. Need a reminder that you’re not stuck—you’re just pausing before the next move? Let ‘Middle‘ remind you that there’s nothing wrong with being in the middle. Cue the song, chill, and find your missing pieces.

  8. Yulo X‘s newest track, “Echoes of Alojera,” fills my darkly lit Berlin apartment as I sit there. Friday night, and the driving house grooves coming from my speakers exactly match the city’s intensity seeping through my windows. I can’t help but get excited about what is ahead. For years Felix Neumann, the genius behind Yulo X, has been causing waves in Berlin’s electronic music scene. From the early days of “A Hundred Times Beloved” until his house music triumph as Fex Fellini, I have tracked his path. Now, with “Echoes of Alojera,” he’s extending an invitation to us into a fresh phase of his musical journey. The song provides a tantalizing taste of his forthcoming album, “Euphoria Ends.” Closing my eyes and letting the music envelop me, I’m struck by how deftly Neumann combines expressive piano lines with mesmerizing vocals. Like meeting an old acquaintance who has evolved in intriguing ways, this sound is both familiar and novel. Here Neumann’s skill to combine several electronic subgenres is really evident. I detect echoes of Max Cooper’s rich soundscapes, the vivid intensity evocative of Caribou, and grooves that would readily be confused with Floating Points. Still, Yulo X’s distinct voice emerges through all: honest, understated, and painfully passionate. Having been a long-time fan, it makes me happy to see how Neumann’s unique vocals—with their new wave and dream pop inspirations—have developed. His sound exudes confidence and maturity that reflects years of perfecting his trade in Berlin and London’s clubs. “Echoes of Alojera” is a promise of what is ahead, not only a single. Listening to the tune on repeat makes me excitedly want the whole album. If this song is any guide, “Euphoria Ends” is destined to be a turning point in Yulo X’s career – a trip across an imaginative musical terrain only Neumann could create. Berlin’s electronic music scene exudes great energy. I am appreciative to be seeing the emergence of an artist that is not hesitant to challenge limits and expose his soul via his music as I get ready to venture out into the night and lose myself on the dancing. Available now is Yulo X’s “Echoes of Alojera; if you are anything like me, you will find it on repeat till “Euphoria Ends” arrives on October 11th. Trust me; you will not want to miss this musical trip. The post Yulo X Unveils Final Single ‘Echoes of Alojera’ appeared first on The Groove Cartel.

  10. Electronic music icon Paul Kalkbrenner announces the release of “KABELMANN,” a multi-part short film project accompanying the artist’s upcoming two-track Kabelmann EP. The films, created by Mother Berlin and SMUGGLER, and directed by Björn Rühmann, premiered at the renowned Ciclope Festival in Berlin earlier this week and were released alongside the EP today. A Tale of Connection in Two Parts “KABELMANN” unfolds in two short film chapters, each scored by Kalkbrenner’s tracks. The films follows the journey of Kabelmann (literally meaning cableman), an otherworldly character and outlier perpetually tethered to endless cables—an homage to Kalkbrenner’s analogue production methods and live-only approach to performance. Part one is the emotional story arc of an outsider. Kabelmann searches for human connection, hindered by a mysterious energy flowing through his cables. Small flashes of Kalkbrenner hint at the source behind Kabelmann’s energy as the song’s rhythms push the story forward. Part two catapults viewers into a dreamlike afterlife juxtaposed with a violent and climactic showdown, which, accompanied by Paul’s melodic and optimistic track Kabelmann 2, leaves Kabelmann’s ultimate fate ambiguous. Internationally acclaimed and award-winning director Björn Rühmann helmed the project, which was shot on location in Manchester and Berlin. The production embraced an analog aesthetic, capturing all footage on Kodak 16mm film. It is the second collaboration between Paul and Mother, who also produced the short film that accompanied his track “Schwer” last year. Björn Rühmann, the film’s director, explains: “The process of finding our Kabelmann’s destiny took forever – in a great way. We loved exploring all the ways for this character to become the perfect blend of an alter ego of the artist (Paul) – and a unique, otherworldly hero that captivates the audience. To create the most cinematic vision, we worked with fantastic people such as Kevin Howarth (Actor, Kabelmann) and Krzysztof Trojnar (DP, known for his work on Baby Reindeer), just to name a few.” Paul Kalkbrenner, who appears throughout the film as an enigmatic energy source, stated: “I have always loved exploring how my music can work in visual mediums, whether that’s in the live setting or in cinematic projects like this. The concept of the Kabelmann made total sense to me, as I have often felt my analog approach to music and performance has made me a bit of an outlier in contemporary electronic music.” The post Paul Kalkbrenner Presents KABELMANN appeared first on Decoded Magazine.

  15. A new solo Ingrosso tune? Count us in! There’s been a lot of hype built around Sebastian Ingrosso’s upcoming solo track, officially named ‘Flood‘. It will be the first time in a while that we hear something 100% made by the Swedish House Mafia member, and as such, it bears a different style from what we’re used to hearing from him. If you were expecting some ‘Reload’ style beat? Buzzer for you, you’d be wrong. Instead, his new song has various UK Garage flavours, sort of resembling Fred again..‘s stuff, particularly on the drums. The vocal is minimalistic, the breakdown introduces constant tension, and the drops are surgically engineered to be as full as possible with as few elements as possible. An element of mastery right there. Air Time: BBC Radio 1 Out of all places Ingrosso could’ve aced and locked a premiere, he went down the old reliable route — Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. The legendary station aired ‘Flood’ for the very first time, as Tong introduced it as a proper Sebastian Ingrosso ID. Check out the stream below. Festival Time: Tomorrowland Brasil And far from being the only place in which listeners could catch a glimpse of this new ID, those who were at Itu this past weekend might have also vibed to the tune, as colleague Axwell also spun ‘Flood’ during his Mainstage set at Tomorrowland Brasil. Watch below. This one should come out between this week and the next one, according to our calculations, so stay tuned for more! To celebrate the arrival of ADE 2024 – and the launch of their industry-disrupting Pre-Cleared Artist Music Library – Collabhouse are once again offering one lucky producer the chance to win €5,000 to spend on a music promotion campaign. The Dutch music distribution and promotion platform – created by Spinnin’ Records co-founder Eelko van Kooten – offered up the same career-defining prize back in August. It had its proverbial hand bitten off as over 2,500 tracks were entered. With so much demand – and this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event right around the corner – van Kooten and his team decided to drop another chance to win. “These targeted promotional campaigns can have a huge impact on the success of a track,” commented Collabhouse CMO, Andy Berendsen. “For example a recent campaign with BEAUZ exceeded expectations, delivering 73k video creations on TikTok, reaching almost 53 million people, and accumulating over 5.7 million streams on Spotify. We’re excited to give more artists the opportunity to achieve such success.” Going live on October 16th to coincide with the opening of ADE, artists have until October 31st to upload tracks to be in with a chance to win. ADE 2024 promises to be the biggest so far for the Amsterdam-based, label-in-your-pocket music solution. Designed with producers at its core, Collabhouse gives artists cutting edge promotion and distribution tools across over 65 different streaming sites and download stores – but that is very much just the tip of the iceberg. The latest jewel in the Collabhouse crown is their brand new Pre-Cleared Artist Music Library, full details of which will be made public next week. Fittingly with the roll out imminent, van Kooten will also be giving an ADE Masterclass on ‘The New Era of Music Promotion – Viral Content, Fan Building, and Career Growth’. Joining him on Wednesday October 16th at ADE Lab’s Mappa Soundbar to discuss life beyond the traditional record label model will be Triller VP Ben Reid, ex-TikTok exec Dan Carter, label head and artist Gallya, and host Mandy Salam-Aubry, founder of Music Services. Collabhouse will also use ADE to launch CollabhouseTV. In association with Reason Studios, SAE Institute, and BAX Music, CollabhouseTV will capture the world’s biggest electronic music conference as it happens, with interviews and sneak peeks at the latest gear and tech. 22. The waiting is over! The Swedish House Mafia maestro Sebastian Ingrosso has at last revealed his much-awaited solo effort. Legendary tastemaker Pete Tong just revealed the bombshell on his BBC Radio 1 show, introducing Ingrosso’s new tune, “Flood.” “Flood” is a masterclass in atmospheric production. The tune commences with a dramatic and dreamy breakdown that grabs the listener right away. It carries them to a sonic environment both known and shockingly novel. Notes of the Past, Whispers of the Future “Flood” marks a fresh chapter in Ingrosso’s career, yet it does not entirely forsow his roots. The increasing arpeggio in the breakdown reminds one of the famous “We Come, We Rave, We Love.” But this time around Ingrosso has created a more natural and organic impression, therefore highlighting his artistic development. The track gains depth and passion with the chorus’s vocal inclusion. It’s the ideal balance to the rich instrumentation to produce a strong synergy that will appeal to both old and new listeners. Ingrosso swings a curveball just when you believe you have “Flood” under control. The second drop is an appealing, down-tempo glitchy beat that will get throngs moving. This surprising turn shows Ingrosso’s eagerness to challenge limits and play about with his sound. What now? All eyes are now on Sebastian Ingrosso as “Flood” ripples across the radio. Will this constitute a component of more general body of work? In not too distant future, might we anticipate more tracks challenging genres? One thing is for sure: Sebastian Ingrosso’s new musical path starts off explosive. The post Listen Sebastian Ingrosso New Single “Flood” on BBC Radio 1 appeared first on The Groove Cartel.

The album, originally released via NovaMute / Plus 8, followed 1993’s Sheet One and propelled Hawtin into new levels of international success. On its initial release, in Nov 1994, Hawtin was central to a burgeoning underground scene in Detroit, and the album, which expands on his unique and innovative minimal techno world, was launched with Plastikman’s first ever live performance in Aug 1994 – at the derelict Packard Plant in Detroit, in a room encased in black plastic sheets. Before the full album hit the shelves, ‘Plastique’ (later described by Q as “… the flipside to Hawtin’s early singles, all ticking percussion, feline acid tweaks and cushioned sub bass”), set the stage for a more dance floor friendly album, albeit one with an unsettling and sinister side. Musik, which featured tracks such as ‘Freek’, ‘Kriket’ (which Raf Simons used earlier this year in the Prada Men Spring/Summer 2025 show), ‘Fuk’ and ‘Marbles’, was soon heard by a much wider audience. Plastikman live appearances at Glastonbury, Tribal Gathering and a headline slot at Megadog followed soon after, prompting NME to declare Plastikman to be “Fiercer than Orbital, funkier than the Prodigy and more insatiably danceable than anything else on the bill”. The album, described by The Guardian as “music as you’ve never heard it before” and by The Wire, who made it one of their Albums of the Year, as “… a masterpiece”, defined a moment in techno that still echoes today. Now, 30 years later, to mark its anniversary, the album has been remastered from the original tapes, reminding us why Plastikman is a name that still resonates and that the album’s intensity – on and off the dance floor – has lost none of its potency in the intervening years. Manufactured with environmentally conscious packaging, pressed on bio-vinyl. 25. An album beloved of fans since its release in March 2004, Ultravisitor is one of the most popular records in Squarepusher’s discography. A distinctive blend of studio and live recordings, it’s an excellent showcase for the diversity of his music; from the anthemic title track, through the breakneck mayhem of ‘Steinbolt’, to the sunlit bliss of ‘Tommib Help Buss’ and beyond. For the 20th anniversary, Warp is proud to present this expanded deluxe version – a limited edition one-time pressing, carefully remastered from the original recordings by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering and overseen by Tom Jenkinson. Never entirely satisfied with the sound of the original release, Tom has relished the opportunity to bring out fresh dynamics and detail in the tracks. Bonus album Venus No.17 Maximised is compiled from material originally released as part of the Ultravisitor promo EP, released 26 January 2004; the Square Window 3” CD, a free bonus disc given out with WarpMart pre-orders of the Ultravisitor album and theVenus No.17 EP. The accompanying booklet contains photographs, posters and recording documentation from Tom’s archive. Ultravisitor (20th Anniversary Edition) will be available on October 25th via Warp Records.
