BATHKE embraces sex, freedom and power in debut EP, ‘DADDY ISSUES’
Following the success of hypnotc single ‘Cosmic Agogó’, Brazilian DJ/producer BATHKE returns with his best material to date in latest EP ‘DADDY ISSUES’. This bold six-track project is packed with unabashed queer imagery, brazenly confronting themes of control, sex, and freedom while drawing inspiration from French philosopher Michel Foucault. Moments of unfiltered human experiences, centred around power dynamics and paternal relationships, are delivered through a multitude of mesmerising and progressive electronic sounds. The EP reveals a full glimpse of what BATHKE has to offer: emotional resonances and danceable beats that encourage listeners to reflect on societal norms and their own personal connections to these themes. This project cements BATHKE’s place in the electronic music scene as an artist unafraid to challenge conventions and spark introspection through sound. Don’t miss ‘DADDY ISSUES‘, out on all streaming platforms this September. Rodrigo Bathke, known professionally as BATHKE, first swapped his drum lessons with music production in 2017, and GarageBand was the platform that sparked his interest in creating electronic music. He would then go on to explore various other pathways in sound, studying piano and music theory and developing a sophisticated understanding of composition and sound design. Now, he stands as a rapidly emerging DJ and producer drawing inspiration from a broad spectrum of genres, including jazz, techno, and ambient music. BATHKE is more than just a project; it is Rodrigo’s artistic expression—a platform where he creates music that forges forward-thinking and defiant sounds with deep emotional undertones. As a Brazilian performer, he has made a mark in the local music scene of Curitiba, performing at various events and building a reputation for his sets. With his latest project, ‘DADDY ISSUES‘, BATHKE takes a bold and complex leap in his artistry. To stay updated on what’s next from this BATHKE, fans can use the links below. Listen / Stream / Download https://ditto.fm/daddy-issues-bathke GETTING TO KNOW BATHKE : INTERVIEW Introduce yourself and your project I’m Rodrigo Bathke, but I go by BATHKE professionally. My journey in music began in 2017 when I traded my drum lessons for music production, with GarageBand sparking my passion for creating electronic music. Since then, I’ve explored various aspects of sound, studying piano and music theory, which helped me develop a more refined understanding of composition and sound design. Today, I’m emerging as a DJ and producer, drawing inspiration from a wide range of genres like jazz, techno, and ambient music. BATHKE is my artistic voice—a space where I create forward-thinking, emotionally charged music. As a Brazilian artist from Curitiba, I’ve become part of the local music scene, performing at different events and building a reputation for my sets. My latest project, Daddy Issues, marks a bold and complex evolution in my work, it dives into the complexities of power dynamics, reflecting human experiences where sex is used as a tool to unlock repressed emotions. In this 6-track EP, I aimed to challenge conventions and explore the full spectrum of human sexual experiences. The provocative title, “Daddy Issues,” captures the essence of the album and serves as an invitation for listeners to engage with delicate and often underestimated themes in society. Explain what musical genre fits you best I would say that I move across different musical genres. I really enjoy composing danceable old-school house, but I also love soft synth melodies paired with strong techno beats. Were you connected with music from a young age and did anyone inspire you? I remember being a kid and getting obsessed with specific songs, listening to them repeatedly on my Discman and later on MP3 players. I would just get lost in a trance with my headphones on—it was so comforting. Later, when I discovered the work of self-taught producers like Arca and Grimes, it inspired me to study music as well What kickstarted your music career? Honestly, I was working in corporate business and started having a lot of anxiety attacks, and producing music became an outlet for those episodes. It reached a point where I made the decision to create music projects and perform in the nightlife scene in my city—and that’s how it all started. Tell us more about your sound and how it’s evolved over time It’s funny to look back at some of my older projects and see how my sound has evolved. One of the biggest changes is having a clearer direction for the music I’m creating, along with a better understanding of musical genres, tones, and beats that work well together. Another key aspect is mixing—knowing which instrument will take the lead and which others will play a supporting role, and how to blend these ideas so the music comes across clearly and with purpose. For the Daddy Issues EP, I had a clear vision in my mind for each track, and that made the composition process much easier. I knew which songs would be more danceable and which ones would be more introspective, and that really added to the overall concept of the album. Any words you want to share to encourage other artists or producers? I would say to let go of self-criticism and perfectionism, and just allow yourself to create. Usually, ideas flow much more freely without pressure. Also, writing down your ideas helps a lot, and over time, those ideas come together to form something meaningful. That’s when perfectionism can be useful—to refine and elevate the work. How do you nurture your industry relationships? Two important people in my career, who are now friends, are artists I met through the internet and the local scene. We shared common ideas and goals, and that was crucial in organizing local events and helping with the creation of my music. Is there anyone you’d like to thank that’s been crucial to your journey? I’d like to thank my friends who encouraged me to pursue my art and had to endure listening to my chaotic early demos at the beginning of it all, lol. Name 3 songs you love and what they mean to you + Youtube links Halcyon and On and On – Orbital It’s pure ethereal electronic music, make me feel serene and powerful at the same time. Vogue – Madonna Iconic queer anthem, it says so much about freedom to be yourself. El Bandido – Nicolas Jaar Incredible production, contemporary house rhythm with disco touches—a total vibe! What’s your favourite piece of studio equipment or software? I’ve been really into the Circuit Tracks lately. It’s a sequencer with built-in synthesizers that allows me to upload samples. It’s perfect for taking to different places and stimulating creativity away from the computer, as I can create nearly an entire song on it. I also want to start using it in live performances! Name your favourite club or festival and how it makes you feel My favourite club has to be KitKat in Berlin. The atmosphere and decor are simply amazing. I love how people feel free and comfortable there, away from their phones—it’s really captivating. You can enjoy yourself in whatever way you see fit, and it’s truly an unforgettable experience. Name an outlandish rider request? Give me 10 puppies before the show, and I’ll perform 10 times better lol! Favourite clubbing memory and who or what did it involve? A recent memory that’s among my favourites was Arca’s performance at Primavera Sound São Paulo. It was the first festival I attended right after the pandemic, and if you know Arca’s sound, you don’t really know what to expect. The heavy industrial beats followed by soft, cute melodies completely disarmed me, and I felt like I was floating. She even ended the performance with a song by a Brazilian artist, which made it truly memorable. What famous quote represents you best? Be yourself; everyone else is already taken. -Oscar Wilde If you could play at any venue, where would it be and why? I’d love to play at KitKat Berlin. There’s something special about Berlin’s clubs that makes people feel incredibly comfortable. I think it’s the fact that cell phones aren’t allowed—people are fully immersed in the moment and the music, and that creates a unique vibe that’s hard to find elsewhere. Music is….. (explain more) Music is energy; you’ll notice there’s always a song that fits any feeling you’re experiencing. If you’re feeling sad, play a sad song and it will help you process that emotion. If you’re excited, a dance track will elevate your energy even more. It’s powerful enough to shift our emotions and senses. One song you really couldn’t live without and why? This was a tough one, choosing just one, but I think I’ve decided. “Six Blade Knife” by Dire Straits. I think it has a timeless vibe, something I could listen to at any moment, whether I’m having my coffee or driving down the road. It’s chill but deep, and I think that represents me well. Namedrop your favourite 5 artists or DJs (past or present) Nicolas Jaar Noporn Lana del Rey Honey Dijon Sophie What was your first music memory and how did it fuel your fire? My Dad had and old Vinyl record player in his office, one of my earliest music memories is trying all the different records and dancing to them in the room. I think that’s where my connection to music really began. Later on, discovering about electronic music and the possibility of creating sounds with just a computer inspired me to dive deeper into production. It fueled the fire in me to create my own music and explore sound in a way that felt personal and transformative. Tell us more about your plans for the future I’ve been working on my next project, and without giving away too many spoilers, I can say it’s going to take a very different approach from my last EP. It will have a western vibe, with organic sounds and a lot of groove. Expect retrofuturistic cowboy, I’m very excited. Any worldly advice you’d like to share? Be safe, enjoy life, trust the process and stay curious. Allow yourself to grow without being held back by fear or judgment. The beauty of both is in the exploration and in how we connect with the world and with ourselves along the way. Patrick Topping Celebrates Success Of First Sober Rave
Patrick Topping, the celebrated UK DJ and producer, just pulled off something that had many in the scene doing a double-take: a sold-out, alcohol-free rave. In an era where club culture is often intertwined with drink and aftereffects, Topping took a bold step by launching his very first sober rave event. The move wasn’t just a hit; it was a groundbreaking shift in the rave experience, and Topping couldn’t be more thrilled. Breaking Boundaries With A Sober Rave Concept For Topping, this event was more than a party—it was a statement. “Some people thought I was mad for starting an alcohol-free event,” he admitted, recognizing that the idea of a sober rave could seem out of place in the Dance music world. But Topping’s instinct told him there was a demand for it, and he was right. The event sold out quickly, with an atmosphere he described as “insane”. The night proved that sobriety doesn’t equate to a lack of energy or passion on the dance floor. A Rave for Every Kind of Raver The crowd that night was a vibrant mix: fitness fanatics, those on a sobriety journey, and many who were simply “sober curious” and looking to shake off the usual post-party regrets. Topping found it “amazing to see the energy and everyone proper going for it!”. His interactions with attendees highlighted how meaningful the event was for those there; he even had the chance to connect with people who shared powerful sobriety stories. For many, the option to attend a rave without the pressure of drinking was refreshing, while others were glad to have a space where they could fully enjoy the experience without risking their recovery. The First of Many? Topping’s enthusiasm for the event’s success was palpable. “I was so nervous for this, but I had a massive feeling it would work and thankfully it did. I’m f*kin buzzing!”, he shared. The night was so impactful that he’s already planning the next one, hinting at a potential “Dry January” event to keep the momentum going. For Topping, it’s all about creating a “proper” rave environment that’s true to his high-energy vibe, minus the booze. And as he promised, more info on the next event is coming soon. As sober raving gains traction, Patrick Topping’s venture could be the spark that lights a new path in nightlife, offering an experience that’s both high-energy and hangover-free. Listen to Kaskade and Wilkinson's Luminous Drum & Bass Anthem, "Shine On"
Kaskade and Wilkinson have joined forces for "Shine On," a stunning drum & bass track reminding us that sometimes, the people who shine brightest in our lives do so long after they're gone. The track is a marriage of Kaskade's melodic touch and Wilkinson's drum & bass finesse, merging into a tender anthem that works both as peak-time euphoria and solitary night-drive therapy. With an uplifting urgency, they turn what could have been just another drum & bass banger into something that catches in your throat. Wilkinson's percussive backbone rattles with signature precision while Kaskade's atmospheric touches add pangs of warmth that feel like shots of serotonin straight to the temporal lobe. Meanwhile, Paige Cavell casts a spell with her haunting vocals, especially through the lyrical grenade, "Everywhere I go you'll be shining down on me."There's something almost painfully human about it, capturing that profound ache of missing someone while they help guide your own internal compass. Miss Monique And Moby Update His 90s Hit ‘Feeling So Real’ For Its 30th Anniversary
Miss Monique really can’t go wrong. Just have a listen! Originally dubbed a bridge between rave and classical music by Billboard, ‘Feeling So Real‘ remains one of Moby‘s most distinctive and respected works. The track became a founding pillar of what we now know so well as Moby’s unique artistic vision. Why are we bringing this up? Turns out that, decades later, ‘Feeling So Real’ is being reimagined with Ukranian superstar Miss Monique, for a tribute which not only refreshes the tune, but does so on its 30th birthday, down to the day. And it’s a double milestone for our beloved MiMo, as she got to collaborate with one of the indisputable legends of the music world, while also landing this fresh take on her very own label, Siona Records. If this is not a sign of how fast she’s growing and how she’s got no plans of stopping anytime soon, I don’t know what is. ‘Feeling So Real 2024’ This update is something else. You may have had the chance to hear it a few weeks ago at ADE, when Miss Monique played it during her ASOT appearance, or in other places where the track has been rinsed. It’s a powerful, groovy, and pleasantly boxy structured record which truly pays tribute to an old friend. ‘Feeling So Real 2024’ is a result of both her and Moby actually teaming up, and I’d say the result is a proper reflection of said comment. It’s got original elements, and those which aren’t still are very respectful to the classic tune, which makes this update all that more special. “[Moby’s] iconic status as a true pioneer of Electronic music needs no explanation. ‘Feeling So Real’ is one of his rave anthems and it was a dream to collaborate with my sonic and sound 30 years later“, says Miss Monique. Credit: Gregory Harris “To be on a record with MOBY for my own label is an absolute career highlight for me.“ -Miss Monique Listen to Moby and Miss Monique‘s latest banger ‘Feeling So Real 2024’, by hitting the ‘Play‘ button on the Spotify player below. Watch 10-Year-Old DJ LC Danger Perform for NBA Halftime Show
Not to put any more pressure on you up-and-coming DJs, but 10-year-olds are coming for your jobs. LC Danger has been DJing since she was just seven years old. Catching on quickly, she's gained hundreds of thousands of online followers interested in seeing her compete with DJs who've been around decades longer. Now, she's been recognized by the NBA's Detroit Pistons, who invited her to perform during halftime of their 2024-2025 season home opener against the Indiana Pacers. Her sounds may have pumped up the Pistons, but the music wasn't enough to propel the team to victory after they finished last season with the league's worst record. The diminutive DJ's NBA debut was not her first high-profile performance. Earlier in the year in Kansas City, LC Danger took the stage with Shaquille O'Neal, or DJ Diesel, for the Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship. She also joined Disco Lines onstage at last year's HARD Summer festival at the age of nine. Check out footage from LC Danger's performance below.

Daft Punk's Iconic "Interstella 5555" Anime Film Heading to Theaters for One Night Only
After soaring through the cosmos and into fans' hearts over two decades ago, Daft Punk's Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem is heading to the big screen for one night only. The legendary electronic music duo's classic anime film will be screened in cinemas worldwide in remastered 4K on December 12th, 2024. The film made its North American debut in late-September, when it aired at LA's United Theater prior to a rare panel featuring Daft Punk's former manager, Pedro Winter and Creative Director, Cédric Hervet. Originally released in May 2003 as a visual companion to Daft Punk's sophomore album Discovery, the audacious sci-film film was created by Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Hervet alongside manga legend Leiji Matsumoto. Setting a stratospheric benchmark for audiovisual storytelling at the time, the hourlong film was splintered into scenes for a number of Daft Punk music videos, including the ageless "One More Time." "'One More Time' was playing all over the town at that time," said Shinji Shimizu of Toei Animation, who produced the film. "I felt so proud that I wanted to shout to people on the street, 'We are making its animation now!'" In partnership with Trafalgar Releasing, the momentous global screening of Interstella 5555 will take place across over 800 theaters in more than 40 countries. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale Wednesday, November 13th. In addition to the screenings, Daft Punk are also rolling out a limited physical release for the Discovery: Interstella 5555 Edition album. It contains the album's original Japanese edition artwork, stickers and Daft Club card as well as gold vinyl (limited to 5,555 copies), numbered CDs (5,555 copies) and black vinyl (25,000 copies). The duo also launched a limited-edition merch line featuring the Crescendolls, the animated band at the core of Interstella 5555. Fans can purchase items on Daft Punk's official shop. Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem to screen in cinemas
After select fan and festival screenings this year, the 4K remastered version of Daft Punk & Leiji Matsumoto’s 2003 anime masterpiece Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem will be screened in cinemas globally for one night only on December 12, 2024 in partnership with Trafalgar Releasing. Says Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, “We’re excited to bring Daft Punk’s iconic Interstella 5555, now fully remastered in stunning 4K, to cinemas for this one-night-only global event. This is a rare opportunity to experience the film on the big screen, along with accompanying Daft Punk music videos, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences everywhere.” Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem was created by Daft Punk and Cédric Hervet in collaboration with Leiji Matsumoto and Toei Animation, and tells the story of the abduction of an alien music band by an evil human character who has dark plans. Essentially an anime visual album, Interstella features the entirety of Daft Punk’s seminal 2001 album Discovery as its soundtrack, including iconic anthems such as “One More Time,” “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” and “Veridis Quo.” Says Shinji Shimizu of Toei Animation, who produced the film, “‘One More Time’ was playing all over the town at that time! I felt so proud that I wanted to shout to people on the street, ‘We are making its animation now!’” As a visual album, the film was cut into individual music videos, and until this year it has been very rare to see the film in its entirety in cinemas. To celebrate this global event, Discovery: Interstella 5555 Edition will be released in limited physical quantities. This physical edition of Discovery will contain the original Japanese edition artwork, stickers and Daft Club card, which became a true collectors’ item around its original release. The limited release will consist of 5555 gold vinyl, 5555 numbered CDs, and 25,000 black vinyl. Along with this special album re-release and film screening comes a limited-edition merch run featuring the Crescendolls, the animated band at the centre of Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. Items are available now through Daft Punk’s official shop. “Veridis Quo” a standout track from Discovery was used widely over the summer in social content, and can now be heard in a global advertising campaign for Chanel N°5 called “A rendez-vous” directed by Luca Guadagnino, featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Since the track’s original release, it has also been widely sampled in music from artists all over the world including Maluma, G-Dragon, and Jazmine Sullivan, and used in live sets from DJs including John Summit. Earlier this year, Apple Music named Discovery as the #23 best album of all time. It has also landed on best album lists from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Rhapsody, Resident Advisory, BBC Radio 1, British GQ. Guardian critic Alexis Petridis wrote in 2020 that “Daft Punk were incredibly prescient: play Discovery and it sounds utterly contemporary.” Discovery has been certified Gold in the US, Platinum in Japan, 2x Platinum in the UK and 3x Platinum in France. The one night only global screening of Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem will be screened in 800+ cinemas in 40+ countries, and tickets will go on sale Wednesday, November 13. Dada Life’s Stefan Engblom Hospitalized After Post-Op Infection
As we speak, Dada Life’s longtime member Stefan Engblom is in the Intensive Care Unit of a Stockholm hospital, fighting severe infection following postoperative complications. Just a few weeks ago, on October 16th, he’d had an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP for short), where he caught, in his own words, “a nasty bacteria“. After being looked after at the hospital and treated with IV antibiotics, he was eventually released, and a few days later, bacteria started growing in his body again at alarming rates. This is when he got to the ER, where he was fed antibiotics and painkillers, but the situation worsened to the point he was admitted at the ICU. Yesterday, he uploaded a video to his Instagram account where he recalls how intense of an experience it’s been. He says, “Felt like I couldn’t breathe, uncontrollably puking bile, shaking and couldn’t control my body. The thoughts in my brain was, as long as I can scream for help I can breathe“. Watch the entire video below. We wish Stefan a speedy and full recovery. We can’t wait to dance with him again. Why Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Show Feels Like the Tomorrowland of Concerts
Imagine a three-and-a-half-hour event with sixty thousand people or more, all locked in on the same vibe: to have the time of their lives. That is The Eras Tour, Taylor Swift‘s latest worldwide tour. Not many traditional concerts can match major festivals in terms of size, production, public expectations, or the artist’s capabilities. However, one artist pulled that off in 2023 and 2024, and we couldn’t miss the opportunity to check out why. Taylor Swift is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) music artists of the past 20 years. From her debut single, “Tim McGraw” in 2006, to now, she has sold over 114 million album-equivalent units worldwide, won 14 Grammy Awards, released 11 original studio albums, 4 re-recorded albums, 5 extended plays (EPs), and 4 live albums. Although her team hasn’t released any official boxscore from her current tour, it’s clear that Taylor’s “Midas touch” goes beyond “Chevy doors”, since “The Eras Tour” is set to become the biggest tour in the world and has already surpassed the $1 billion revenue mark. This astonishing figure reflects the immense demand for tickets, as fans had to engage in a cyber battle to secure their spots—a struggle not unlike the one EDM lovers face each year to attend one of the biggest festivals in the world: Tomorrowland Belgium. Tomorrowland is known for its high demand and limited ticket availability, making it a tough festival to get into, and creating high expectations months before the event, even before tickets go on sale. Swift’s tour experienced the same high demand, with some concerts selling out a year in advance (like the Miami shows). Outfits? Many people plan their festival looks far in advance, and the same is true for Swifties, who often plan or craft their own outfits months before their concert date, building an atmosphere of excitement leading up to the big day. The Belgium festival expected around 67,000 people per day for its 2023 and 2024 editions, which is actually less than the 72,000 average attendance at Swift’s U.S. shows, proving that size is no issue for the American singer. Every year, festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra wow us with different stages, using cutting-edge technology to enhance the experience and create visuals that blow our minds, even if we’re far from the stage. Swift’s team seems to have taken notes on this and created a meticulously planned presentation, with large screens and camera shots so well-rehearsed it felt like Taylor was “looking at you”—a moment reminiscent of the intimacy found in “Out of the Woods”—even from afar. Often unsung heroes, the production teams for both festivals and concerts are spot on. From lighting technicians, who made sure that the “lights were so bright, but never “blind” me”, to designers, sound system engineers, and the security crew keeping everything safe and clean, Swift’s concert truly offered festival-level quality. Things like interactive light bracelets that match the theme of each Era, numerous outfit changes (including a debut of the golden Reputation bodysuit), and iconic moments like the “Don’t Blame Me” song where lights create a holy, choral atmosphere, and the seamless and powerful transition from “Don’t Blame Me” to “Look What You Made Me Do”, are just a few reasons why this tour matches EDM festival production levels. Taylor Swift’s new outfit debut during the Reputation Era at the Miami concert on October 18. At festivals, attendees can jump from stage to stage and listen to whoever they like most. Swift, on the other hand, has the task of keeping her audience entertained for the entire duration, a feat she accomplishes during her 44-46 song setlist, divided into 10 acts that fly by. You only realize the time has passed when you stopped “feeling like 22”, and your legs and back start to ache from dancing and jumping along for hours. Swift’s stage presence is both smart and fun—she moves around to get close to all her fans in the floor section without overexerting herself, all while singing for more than three hours. A highlight of the night is her performance of “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)(Taylor’s Version),” where the entire stadium sings with her for ten straight minutes, words carried by personal meaning and smiles all around. In an era where attention spans barely last a minute, forming a ten-minute connection with your audience is remarkable, a feat typically only achieved by A-list DJs like Eric Prydz or Solomun. Taylor Swift during “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)(Taylor’s Version)” at the first night Miami concert. Can we say that “The Eras Tour” is the Tomorrowland of music concerts? Not quite—that would be disrespectful to their unique identities and misses the fact that they belong to different worlds. But can we say they both excel at delivering unforgettable experiences, reaching star quality levels that are hard to match? Absolutely. “Long Live” Swift and her team know how to put on a show and give their audience the time of their lives. I can say “I was “Enchanted” to meet” with the opportunity to experience the biggest tour in the world. Saying goodbye to “The Eras Tour” is “Death By A Thousand Cuts”, but knowing the striking force Swift is —”a real tough kid”— she is “still writing pages” that will keep her outside the bubble that she once broke. Fun fact: Swift had a taste of the EDM field years ago. She is credited as the lyricist, composer, and backing vocalist of the EDM track “This Is What You Came For” by Calvin Harris and Rihanna. We Need to Talk about Buntai
Like any good idea, the conception of such requires patience, determination, and a strong foundation. Buntai, like many local brands, started out with an objective to impose their blueprint onto the London scene. In this case, through designing and selling clothes. Until four years ago, during lockdown, when they decided to embark on a musical journey that would see them become one of London’s most authentic underground collectives – achieving a flurry of accolades throughout this period. Post lockdown, they began their guest mix and interview series with their first event and an EP drop following shortly after. From uk garage, dubstep, bassline, and a whole host of other 140 sounds, alongside their occasional foray into the jungle arena, Buntai represent a modern and forward-thinking approach when representing the underground scene in its entirety. Recent releases from Four Eyes, Nik Fury, Rolla B, OP Breaks, Architek, and Jaz have instigated an indisputable anticipation around the label side of the brand. With an array of new music coming out from the likes of the legendary DJ Hybrid, Tommy Villiers, Ance, Four Eyes, Jaz, FSHR, Jaynie, and CamUKG over the course of the back end of 2024 and beginning of 2025. We can be certain that momentum will not ease up as Buntai begin to mark their stamp on the UK electronic scene as a whole. A lack of fear when showcasing new sounds, and genres, is exactly what makes this project tick. Buntai means ‘squad’ in Japanese, and the tight knit team they’ve built certainly lives up to its name. Run by London-based music entrepreneur Akira, as well as creative pillar Mia Marshall, whilst counting on an extremely talented DJ and producer roster at their disposal has forged a community that is flourishing on all fronts. Throwing some of the best raves around London, curating a continual body of exciting releases, and obtaining a strongly followed radio and social media presence, collectively, is no mean feat. The scene sorely needs outlets such as Buntai to push the artists who have the talent to reach the top. With an undeniable vision in place, we caught up with Akira and Mia to find out more about their beginnings, as well uncovering plans on the immensely exciting releases coming up for the label. Before we take a look at the present day, why don’t we have a quick chat about how and why, you started Buntai? It started through our love to rave. We both needed a creative outlet during lockdown. When we started, we didn’t know what it was going to be. We didn’t know if we wanted it to be a podcast, a radio show, a clothing line, an events brand, or a bunch of other stuff. We basically took a year trying to do all of the above. Buntai essentially started in lockdown, but was fully established in September 2021 – where our first party took place, our first clothing drop happened, and where it ultimately felt like everything really began. This was definitely the teething ground stage, but we really enjoyed doing it. Although, unofficially, the concept of Buntai started way before this, back when I (Akira) was still in secondary school. The idea was that I could design clothes that me and my friends could afford. So everyone could wear good quality clothes for not nearly as much. The meaning of Buntai in Japanese connotes the word family, and that’s what the idea has always been about – to help the ‘family’ out. That ethos has run right through bringing us to today, whether it be giving a DJ a set who doesn’t normally get to play out in front of a crowd or allowing an up-and-coming producer a chance to release a track. We’re here to help the community out however we can. Establishing yourselves into the scene must’ve been a change of pace from coming out of lockdown? For sure. Our first proper event was in collaboration with LAVALAND/NiNE8COLLECTIVE at Werkhaus. We’ve got to give a big shout out to Lava La Rue and Nige for believing in us and wanting to work with Buntai. Without that push I don’t think we’d be where we are today. That must’ve been a nice feeling for such an established brand to give you the nod of approval! How did that come about in the first place? We first met Nige in a pub, and by the end of the evening he was super invested in us. I think he saw a hunger in us to want to get to the top. Their whole ethos is community driven, so once the other members of the collective knew about us, they were willing to help us out. Nige featured on the first Buntai Sessions, during lockdown, which was a mini series fusing mixing and podcasting into one. He bigged up our future plans, and it felt nice to have someone support us like he did. Shortly after, NiNE8 member Bone Slim actually joined Buntai. Which was such an amazing feeling for us. He brought a new light to our brand and has consistently supported us in every way he can. Being able to run our Rinse FM show together will always be one of our greatest memories and achievements. I’d love to hear some Buntai highlights over the years. Being able to have Four Eyes on our team, someone we’ve supported from the beginning of his journey, and to see how much he’s blossomed, has been a real privilege to witness – getting to see Girls Don’t Sync spin his release with us at Boomtown’s Origin stage in 2023 was crazy. Hearing a track that we released, on such a big stage in the world of dance, was unbelievable. I’d also have to say getting a room 3 takeover at Fabric was a real moment for the whole brand. We took it all in as we saw Citizen close the evening with a heaving room 3. I guess once you established yourselves as a top grade events brand, the natural progression was to start churning out the releases. Why was it the right time for Buntai to do this? We want to have a catalogue that has longevity and is tangible. The events are great, but we’re not doing them all the time. It essentially gives the brand a sound. You can go on our bandcamp or soundcloud page and see what we’re all about. We love going through submissions, and now we’ve grown we get submissions from some of our favourite producers. Uk garage and dubstep are definitely our foundation, but we will always be down to branch out – as long as the song is to our taste. Why don’t we go through some of the releases coming up soon on Buntai. Let’s start with the DJ Hybrid 2-tracker EP. Side 1 is a rolling garage track called ‘Dedicate The Style’ and side 2 is a dubstep track called ‘Mish Mash’. It’s a very interesting combination. He’s obviously known for his jungle and drum & bass sounds, but these two tunes are serious. He sent us about 10 tracks, we were going through them and they were all insane. It was hard to whittle it down. The route we want to go down for the foreseeable future is to release two-trackers, with a potential longer LP in the future – with a collection of tracks from everyone that’s released on the label so far. And other releases we can look forward to over the next 6 months. Yes, plenty. We’ve got an Ance one coming out soon too called ‘Matter Of Time’. He’s such a versatile artist, it’s only a matter of time before he properly breaks through. Also coming up is a Tommy Villiers remix of ‘Too Much Sauce’ by Bakey and Capo Lee, as well as a two-part EP coming from him next year which will be his original music. He’s someone who really cares about the music despite all his success and he’s really on board with what Buntai stands for. So it was about time we got him on a release to be honest. Of course, we’ve got more Four Eyes releases, with an imminent Chris Stussy remix of ‘Desire’ coming next year. We’ve got stuff coming from Buntai resident Jaz, who’s already released with us this year with her debut track ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’. DEEPROT even premiered it on their Youtube channel, which was massive for all of us. We’re going to put together a 5 track dubpack with her, similar to the one we did with Four Eyes, and have a limited amount on our Bandcamp. We met her right at the beginning of our journey, she helped us out by getting us an event at the Red Bull HQ which was pretty much the first real brand we ever got to work with. It’s really nice that we’ve still got her around and the fact she’s now able to release with us is a real full circle moment. Also next year, we’ve got Jaynie and FSHR releasing a heavy dubstep number with us, as well as a CamUKG track who’s still a pretty fresh name with a serious armoury of production behind him. To wrap up, who are some names you’d love to work with in the future? There’s a producer called Moreofus who the whole Buntai family really vibe with when it comes to production. We saw him at Outlook this year and were completely blown away. Shout out to White Peach boss ZHA as well, a big inspiration in every form. Then the likes of Sicaria and Neffa T would be unreal too. We were lucky enough to have Neffa at our Lengfield Festival back in 2022. We’d love to also mention some stand out names from over the years. Plenty of amazing figures that deserve some light. Shout out Modula, a core Buntai member that’s been with us from the beginning. Lakiya, a new creative pillar for Buntai that has the brightest of futures ahead of her. The rest of the team – LISH, Citizen, Insectcrusha, Andz, CTRL, TS, Zero, Rishi, and Holly, head of Favourite Child and Digital Footprint, a GOAT in this scene. Also, Sam and John, the boys behind Pull Up Recordings. Too many amazing names to mention.

Rob GEE Unleashes “This Is My Sound” – A Masterful Fusion of Classic Rave and Modern Production
EDM pioneer Rob GEE is back with a new track that bridges the gap between old-school rave energy and modern production techniques. “This Is My Sound” showcases the veteran producer’s ability to evolve while staying true to his roots; delivering a fresh perspective on dance music that’s already igniting dancefloors across the globe. Known for his signature 200 BPM productions, GEE takes an interesting turn with “This Is My Sound,” setting the tempo at 168 BPM. This deliberate choice allows the track’s powerful kick drum to breathe while maintaining the high-energy atmosphere that fans have come to expect. GEE dubs this fusion of groovy beats and hard dance energy ‘NüCøre,’ marking an exciting evolution in his sound while staying true to the harder styles. The track has already proven its worth in clubs across the Netherlands, United States, Italy, Austria, and Australia and lit up the dancefloor at major festivals such as Defqon1, Escape, and Ground Zero, demonstrating that GEE’s musical instincts remain as sharp as ever. “I wanted to go back to my roots a bit and really bring the 909 to the forefront because there’s a lot piepness going on right now,” GEE explains. “At the same time, I wanted to put some of today’s sauce on it production wise, and most of all I just want to see people dance.” The track features GEE’s distinctive vocals and melodies, but with an endearing twist – the vocal samples used in the track are actually the same ones he uses to communicate with his famous dog, Buster Black. This personal touch adds another layer of authenticity to a production that’s already brimming with character. Speaking of Buster Black, the track’s artwork pays clever homage to the iconic RCA Victor logo, which featured Nipper the dog listening to a phonograph. GEE’s modern interpretation places Buster Black in front of a wall of speakers, creating a perfect visual metaphor for the track’s blend of classic and contemporary elements. In an era where many artists chase trends, “This Is My Sound” stands as a testament to GEE’s commitment to artistic authenticity. The track’s groovy, yet energetic approach demonstrates that innovation doesn’t require abandoning one’s musical identity. Instead, it’s about finding new ways to express that identity while keeping the dancefloor moving. “This Is My Sound” is available now on all major platforms from GEE thAng Music. #PositivianVibes Connect with Rob GEE -Website: https://therealrobgee.com/ -Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therealrobgee/ -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRealRobGEE -YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Therealrobgee * Featured image by Samantha Wong
