[EDM.com] Like It's 2010, The Cataracs and Dev Are Reuniting for New Music
If nostalgia had a sound, it would come wrapped in Dev’s signature swagger and nonchalance channeling through the speakers. It would sound, in other words, like The Cataracs. The duo that fueled the electro-pop explosion of the previous decade with Dev at their side is officially reuniting, and if their recent announcement is any indication, the world is about to party like it's 2010 all over again. "2025's over… It’s officially 2010," they declared on social media, dropping a cryptic social post that sent shockwaves through fans who never stopped hitting replay on "Like a G6." The Cataracs' work was a sweat-soaked invitation to dancefloor hedonism, a fusion of electro, hip-hop and pure pop mischief. Their fingerprints were all over the sound of the time, and while one half of the duo went on to reinvent himself as KSHMR, the DNA of The Cataracs never really disappeared. Now, in an era obsessed with Y2K nostalgia, their return feels like the perfect storm. The resurgence of blog-era fashion, throwback playlists stacked with 2010s bangers, and the unshakable dominance of dance music all point to one thing: the world is ready for The Cataracs and Dev to make us feel fly once again. Their comeback collaboration, "Whistle," is due out February 21st. View the original article to see embedded media. [EDM.com] SABAI, Somna and RUNN Dance Through the Aftermath of Goodbye In New Single, "I Miss You"
There's a particular brand of courage in admitting you miss someone who has every right to ignore your message—the new collaboration from SABAI, Somna and RUNN captures this vulnerability with stunning precision. Out now via SABAI's own imprint, IKIGAI Music, "I Miss You" is a melodic bass track that explores the ache of reaching out to someone who once knew you completely, even when you know you might not deserve their response. This is bass music for the quiet hours when the party's long over and you're left alone with your thoughts and your phone, thumb hovering over that contact you promised yourself you wouldn't call. The track opens with gentle guitar plucks that feel like hesitant footsteps toward a door you're nervous to knock on. When SABAI and Somna's soaring drop hits, it's like all those pent-up feelings finally breaking through the surface. SABAI and Somna's production creates a delicate soundscape where RUNN's tender vocals can breathe and resonate. In an era of ghosting and digital disconnection, her vulnerable lyrics remind us of the humanity in admitting we need someone back in our lives. The way she sings "It isn't fair after everything I put you through" carries just the right mix of regret and desperation. "I Miss You" is signature SABAI, who is on the rise after his sold-out solo headline show at LA's famed Hollywood Palladium, where he introduced a full live band experience. On the other hand, the track marks a departure for Somna, a longtime staple of the trance music community. He's been releasing music for over 15 years and leading one of trance's most prolific labels, AVA Recordings, as its co-owners. [EDM.com] Listen to Dom Dolla and Daya's Hypnotic House Anthem, "Dreamin"
The best house tracks transport you somewhere else, and Dom Dolla's latest, "Dreamin," hands you a first-class ticket. The Australian dance music superstar joined forces with chart-topping songstress Daya for the new collaboration, out now via Good Fortune Records. Their chemistry is a match made in heaven, delivering a hypnotic house record that explores the disorienting beauty of fleeting moments. Dolla once again demonstrates his uncanny ability to craft memorable dancefloor weapons that resonate far beyond the stage. The strength of "Dreamin" lies in its ability to evoke that universal sensation of wondering whether our most perfect memories are real or merely a mirage, too good to be true. Daya masterfully captures those moments of suspended reality with a gossamer vocal performance that dances between dreamlike detachment and intense intimacy. "All my friends, so sweet and innocent / The story never ends, all good but now I think I'm dreaming / Sunny days, it's such a pretty place / I see your smiling face, woke up and now I think I'm dreaming." The release arrives a month prior to Dolla's headline of New York City's illustrious Madison Square Garden, scheduled for March 7-8, 2025. The momentous doubleheader is a big moment for the breakout DJ, whose global hit "girl$" was recently named by EDM.com as one of 2024's best house tracks. [EDM.com] Anyma Opens Up About Final Vegas Sphere Shows: "We're Finally Touching the Future of Live Experiences"
The weeks ahead will mark the end of a seminal chapter for Anyma, the Italian techno superstar who made history by headlining the first-ever electronic music residency at the iconic Vegas Sphere. The Afterlife co-founder has now opened up about his unprecedented residency as it nears its "bittersweet" end. Anyma, who is typically laconic on social media, took to Instagram to reflect on what he called the "most difficult and fulfilling challenge" of his life. "3 years ago I set out hoping to realize my vision of a transcendental world, one you can travel through and experience unlike anything, anywhere else," Anyma wrote. "From nothing more than a concept that I’d hope to share one day to this… the final shows at @sphere." "I cannot lie and say it isn’t bittersweet but I’m most proud knowing we’re finally touching the future of live experiences. Our new mixed media medium is more than anything I could have hoped for when originally starting Anyma." View the original article to see embedded media. Anyma's immersive shows at the Sphere have effectively redefined live electronic music performances. Whether the genre will maintain its foothold at the record-breaking venue remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: his residency has set a high bar, not just for EDM, but for the entertainment industry at large. After an eight-show engagement, he's now set to return to the Sphere from February 27-28 and March 1-2. The final four concerts will feature "new music, visuals and special guests," according to Anyma, as well as supporting DJ sets from John Summit, Solomun, Cassian, Peggy Gou and more. EDM.com was in the Sphere for the opener of "Afterlife Presents Anyma 'The End of Genesys'" as well as the residency's climax, its captivating New Year's Eve concert. [EDM.com] A Different Drop: New Study Uncovers Which Electronic Artists People Listen to While Pooping
In a shocking study that absolutely no one asked for, researchers have mapped out the intersection of BPM and bowel movements by identifying the top artists people listen to on the toilet. New research conducted by QS Supplies, a prominent UK-based retailer specializing in bathroom products, unveils a strange but undeniable truth: when it comes to dropping beats—and other things—the bathroom is the most intimate venue. This, ahem, explosive study highlights a trio of influential producers as the most popular electronic artists people listen to while going #2. Topping the list is the pioneering Aphex Twin, whose complex rhythms and experimental sounds raise some interesting questions about the relationship between ambient techno and ambient... well, you get the idea. Calvin Harris' dance anthems and DJ Snake's bass-heavy bangers round out the top three, proving that even in our most vulnerable moments, we're still looking for that perfect drop. But it's not all carefree listening. 38% of respondents said they use AirPods on the toilet and 5% admitted to feeling anxiety about being overheard during their bathroom breaks—because who wants their deep, emotional connection with Calvin Harris to be interrupted by a roommate's curiosity? Outside the confines of electronic music, earning the dubious top spot in this smelly category was chart-topping rapper Tyler, The Creator. He's followed by Drake, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, $uicideboy$ and Travis Scott, which seems more like a reflection of hip-hop's streaming domination than the listening habits of the reflection we see in the water below. However, it does say a lot about the most popular artists who fans listen to in the shower and bathtub. Both of those lists are topped by Taylor Swift, who is nowhere to be found in the study's pooping data. Turns out, when it comes to bathroom habits, hip-hop is for the drop and Swift is for the drip. QS Supplies' researchers say they surveyed 500 British and 500 American participants about their music-listening habits in the bathroom. They also analyzed over 300,000 songs appearing on playlists filtered by the term "pooping" as well as "shower" and "bathtub." You can read the company's full study here.

[EDMTunes] Is This The End of Q-Dance? Major Rebrand Sparks Speculation
The hard dance community is buzzing with speculation after a surprising move from Q-Dance. The company has quietly updated its mobile application, and in doing so, completely removed its own name. The app is now branded solely as Defqon.1, its flagship festival. While this may seem like a small rebranding move, it raises serious questions about the future of the iconic hard dance brand. A Struggling Giant? For over two decades, Q-Dance has been a defining force in the hard dance scene, creating legendary events like Qlimax, Q-Base, Qapital, and multiple international editions of Defqon.1. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dutch powerhouse has faced increasing difficulties. Many of its most beloved events have been canceled, including the Defqon.1 editions in Chile and Australia, the long-running Q-Base, and more recently, the shocking demise of Qlimax, a festival many considered the spiritual home of raw and euphoric hardstyle. Defqon.1: The Last Man Standing? Another concerning sign has been the shift in Q-Dance’s Dediqated program, which once offered early ticket access for multiple events but has since become exclusive to Defqon.1. Now, with the mobile app rebranded entirely around Defqon.1, many are wondering if Q-Dance is being slowly absorbed into its flagship festival, leaving behind the rest of its event portfolio. Adding to the concerns, Q-Dance’s presence at major festivals has been steadily declining. The company previously hosted full takeover stages at Tomorrowland, showcasing the best of hardstyle over an entire weekend. Then, their presence was reduced to a single day. More recently, it was scaled down to just a few sets with a mini end show. In 2025, for the first time in years, Q-Dance will have no presence at Tomorrowland at all. In addition, in a recent episode of the Dutch podcast “De Machine,” the owner of Defqon.1 and Q-Dance shed light on the company’s evolving strategy. He revealed that instead of expanding, Q-Dance aims to focus on fewer events while ensuring they are the absolute best in the industry. This aligns with recent shifts. While this approach could mean more high-quality, immersive experiences, it also raises concerns about the long-term future of some of Q-Dance’s most iconic events. You can listen to the full interview here. What’s Next? Is Q-Dance simply undergoing a rebrand, or are we witnessing the slow disappearance of one of hard dance’s most influential brands? For now, it’s all speculation, but with so many major changes happening in the last few years, it’s clear that Q-Dance is at a crossroads. Whether this marks the beginning of a new era or the end of an institution remains to be seen. [H/T] Guettapen The post Is This The End of Q-Dance? Well, well, well… We’re heading back to Florida for this year’s Miami Music Week next month, and we can’t wait to return to our favorite club. Club Space Miami just announced its 2025 itinerary — an entire week of debauchery and never-ending music. Starting March 25th, the Club will host top-notch talent from the worldwide House and Techno scene, day and night. Club Space Music Week 2025 Tuesday starts off strong and sexy with the French producer HUGEL‘s takeover. His takeover will surely ‘Make the Girls Dance’, as he brings a well-crafted lineup from his label. The music icon is sure to leave a fashionable impression, given his debut collab clothing line TAFARI WORLD — nothing like some delicious and sultry Tech and Latin House grooves on a Tuesday night. Then, the Aussie eclectic and fun DJ FISHER brings out his roster from his label Catch & Release, to spice up our hump day. The ‘Ocean’ author will sure have our Wednesday in full throttle with nothing but good vibes and good beats. Thursday sees the return of Club Space royalty The Martinez Brothers b2b Loco Dice. The DJs are consistently in Music Week and Art Basel lineups, spreading joy each year. If you thought that was fun wait until you see the weekend lineup. On Friday, the British label Solid Grooves returns for their yearly takeover. The PAWSA and Michael Bibi-owned imprint will inspire with their lineup of industry heavyweights. Last year the event included sets by Marco Carola, Dennis Ferrer, PAWSA, BLOND:ISH, Joseph Capriati, and more. Saturday, Link Miami Rebels will host a special evening with headliners Innellea, CamelPhat and many more. This day will change the tempo a little bit from the rest of the weekend with tasty melodic techno and progressive melodies. Furthermore, the Club Space owner gave a few clues about a very special headliner on Saturday. Hints allude to Anyma, the Italian DJ and history-maker. The ‘Hypnotized’ producer is now preparing for yet another week of the End of Genesys shows at the Sphere in Las Vegas, at the end of February. Of course, we can’t close out Music Week without a proper closing party. Club Space gears out to another 24+ hour party that starts Sunday night and usually ends Tuesday morning. Make sure you bring comfy shoes! The surprise lineup usually reveals the roster closer to showtime. The waitlist for week passes is available here, with single-night passes available as well. [EDMTunes] Kenn Colt, Cirillo JR, And Lorjs Unite For Groovy Single ‘Saxo’
Three minds have joined forces for one catchy little product. We’ve got news to share today, as Kenn Colt, Cirillo JR, and Lorjs have released their brand-new track ‘Saxo‘. The collaboration masterfully incorporates elements of EDM, Afro Tech House, and Big Room. The song’s creation began when Colt and Cirillo met at Amsterdam Dance Event last year. When the authors of a song are good, you know the track has a high chance of being phenomenal, and such is the case here. The acts behind ‘Saxo’ are all professional artists — Kenn Colt being a DJ, producer, label owner, and radio host with over 50 million streams on Spotify, and Cirillo JR and Lorjs not falling behind, with both having landed gigs around the world and earning the support of countless top-tier DJs. ‘Saxo’ Groovy and energetic, ‘Saxo’ wastes absolutely no time in foreplaying for a hook, for it’s got several of them scattered throughout its duration. The first thing you’ll hear when hitting ‘Play’ is the playful vocal, and now that you’re hooked, vocal chops and a Latin arrangement will take over, setting the tone for the song. Around 20 seconds in, comes the start of the show, who the track has been named after: an upbeat saxophone performance, which is bound to get you humming. And just to ease your curiosity, the third hook I’d mention is a vocal sample that plays in the second half of each drop. This song leaves you no chance to be indifferent: it gets you going from the very first second. Listen to Kenn Colt, Cirillo JR, and Lorjs‘ ‘Saxo’, by hitting the ‘Play‘ button on the Spotify player below. Also, click here to support the release on your platform of choice. [EDMTunes] Burning Man 2025 Shifting To A ‘Pay-What-You-Will’ Ticketing System
Burning Man, the week-long music and art festival held in the Nevada desert at the end of August, has opened its ticket registration. You have until 12pm Tuesday, February 11th to register for the first sale, which begins February 12th. However, the ticketing process has undergone significant changes this year. Historically, Burning Man tickets at lower price points were available during April and July sales, and even in August last year when the event didn’t sell out. This year’s process is a little different. Due to a $20 million budget shortfall from lower attendance last year, Burning Man Project is implementing a “pay-what-you-will” system. Tickets are offered at the following tiered prices: $550, $650, $750, $950, $1,500, and $3,000 (plus taxes and fees). Those who access the sale first will have the option of choosing any of these prices, but once the $550 and $650 tiers sell out, buyers will only have the option of choosing the more expensive tiers. The idea is that those who can afford it will pay more, subsidizing lower-priced tickets for others. “2025 tickets give participants options on how they wish to engage, making this year’s Black Rock City a communal experience that is more accessible to all who wish to participate. Those who choose to pay more ($950, $1,500, or $3,000) for a ticket are helping subsidize lower price tickets for other participants (through programs like the Ticket Aid Program), event operational costs, and art grants.” -Burning Man spokesman For those who can’t afford regular tickets, the Ticket Aid Program offers $225 tickets (plus taxes and fees) to a limited number of applicants, starting mid-February. Additional sales are planned for April, along with a final one on July 30th, but the available ticket prices and quantities for these sales are unknown. Burning Man Project has not disclosed how many tickets are available at each price point, unlike previous years. This new system has sparked controversy, with some supporting it and others criticizing the lack of transparency. Head on over to the Burning Man website here to register for tickets. and stay tuned for more details. ZHU is stepping behind the camera with 24 Hours of Grace, a new documentary feature premiering at SXSW. The "Faded" hitmaker has always embraced the shadows, but in his first documentary, he's stepping into the light. No stranger to reinvention, ZHU serves as the film's director, producer and screenwriter, crafting an intimate portrait of an artist at a crossroads. 24 Hours of Grace follows ZHU as he returns to San Francisco to record GRACE, his fourth studio album, inside a gothic cathedral that doubles as both a sanctuary and a creative incubator. The documentary goes behind the scenes of the recording process, culminating in a high-stakes performance where the freshly minted tracks are debuted for an audience the same night. The "audiovisual journey" then expands beyond the studio walls, taking viewers inside ZHU's three sold-out performances at the Hollywood Palladium, where his signature fusion of shadowy aesthetics and haunting soundscapes came to life. Both a meditation on time and a visceral deep-dive into artistic reinvention, 24 Hours of Grace explores ZHU's evolution since releasing "Faded" over a decade ago, according to its synopsis. [Decoded] Book of the Month – Mischa Haller – Not Going Home (Photographs of Post Club Britain, 1998)
The Party’s Over. The club lights on. You heard about an afters. The sun’s just coming up and the light is a distraction. The main event is over, what next? Because you’re…NOT GOING HOME With a foreword by journalist Kate Spicer, the book documents the Summer of 1998 as photographer Mischa Haller travelled across the UK to chronicle clubbers and partygoers in the small hours of the morning. The idea was to show what it felt like to be young, up all night in that slightly woozy, surreal state. “I was interested in the time between the nightclub closing and people going home, those one or two hours when the rest of the world is asleep, but clubbers are carrying on. These moments hang in the memory – eating, smoking, chatting, making a fire on the beach or meeting someone new.” – Mischa Haller. [Electric-Mode] Interview with J PARKI: On His Recent Release ‘My Infernal World (Ode to Lina & Paw) – The Remixes’
Renowned songwriter JJ PARKI is set to release his highly anticipated EP, ‘My Infernal World (Ode to Lina & Paw) – The Remixes’, on February 14th, 2025. GETTING TO KNOW JJ PARKI Introduce yourself and your project: JJ PARKI, songwriter. JJ PARKI & Co. (Collaborations in creative Company) Explain what musical genre fits you best: My roots are in EDM, and fusing sounds with my collaborators is a real buzz. However, I can’t resist projects in other genres, such as singer-songwriter/pop/folk. I even have a jazz collab, which was revived a decade later as a bossa nova fusion by one of the original collaborators. You’ll hear a variety of sounds from JJ PARKI & Co. as I don’t like to be labelled as just one genre. Were you connected with music from a young age and did anyone inspire you? Yes, I grew up surrounded by the immense appreciation of music. As an infant, my first memory of music is influenced by Spain, a Spanish song for children called “Veo, Veo” (by Teresa Rabal), which was the anthem of my childhood, and, too, flamenco. At primary school I learnt to play the piano, and at secondary school I learnt to play the flute. As a teenager and, too, young adulthood, I worked for Handleman UK, an international music distributor before the Internet era. The EDM artists that inspired me are, without a doubt, Linda, Regi & Filip of Milk Inc. I’ll never forget hearing the UK release of their top ten hit ‘In My Eyes’ – I had never heard music like it before, and my passion for EDM music exploded from that moment. What kickstarted your music career? In the early noughties, I bought a Slinky Music Club Edition 2002 software CD-ROM and, (not having a computer at the time) using a friend’s computer (-thanks Jonny!), I composed/produced my debut song entitled ‘Free’… decades later, the L.A. Remix of ‘Free’ is one of my most streamed songs on Spotify. Tell us more about your sound and how it’s evolved over time: My sound evolves, changes & grows depending on the collaborators I work with. I don’t always set out to have a specific sound, each project depends on my lyrics and then the interpretations of each collaborator on the song we work on. From singer-songwriter, pop/folk vibes to EDM bangers, it all depends on the creativity and fusion of mine & my collaborators’ styles. Any words you want to share to encourage other artists or producers? BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. If you believe that you have something to offer, keep going, be patient and, always, be passionate. If you don’t believe in yourself, no-one will. How do you nurture your industry relationships? I’m lucky to have a very positive relationship with nearly all of my collaborators, to the extent that it’s a true pleasure to continue working with so many all these years later. The mutual respect we have for each other is priceless. However, just like making new friends, sometimes there’s no chemistry, resulting in just one release (and often a follow up), and then that’s it. Each song represents a project; a collaboration and each contributor’s work, energy and passion. The vast majority of collaborations I’ve worked on I’ve enjoyed. Is there anyone you’d like to thank that’s been crucial to your journey? At each stage of my journey, I keep benefitting from new collaborations which lead to new press/radio/TV opportunities… to name just one would, likely, be impossible. I am grateful to every single collaborator that has got me to where I am today. Linked to the previous question, I suppose that I am grateful most to those collaborators with whom I continue to work on music. I can’t not mention my late mum, she instilled in me a passion for music. I don’t know a world without music, which all started thanks to her. It was working alongside my mum in Handleman UK that opened my eyes to a greater understanding of how the Industry works. Funnily enough, though, almost ironically, she hadn’t ever understood the musical legacy she gave me. Name 3 songs you love and what they mean to you Milk Inc. – In My Eyes (UK release 2002 aka the DJ Philip Remix) – this song started my passion for music. I still have the CD release, pure work of EDM art. Absolute classic 4 Strings & Susanne Teutenberg. Always a reference of inspiration, when the Dutch duo revealed that the one & only vocalist of their earlier work was always Susanne Teutenberg (and not Vanessa who was only ever the façade) I cried! I still listen to the older and new 4 Strings releases, but all their songs with Susanne Teutenberg as the vocalist have a certain je ne sais quoi, Susanne’s vocals are unique. Infernal – Touch Heaven. How could I not mention the Danish duo who have inspired this release! So many of their 2024 releases have blown me away, and ‘Touch Heaven’ was my favourite song of last year. My life in a song. What’s your favourite piece of studio equipment or software? I yearn for the days of a program identical/similar to the Slinky Club Edition 2002 from which came my debut ‘Free’! However, each of my collabs depends on the role the collaborator plays, various equipment & software we’ve used… All I’ll say is, never underestimate DAWs like BandLab, and editing tools like Clipchamp, they’ve saved the day on several occasions. Name an outlandish rider request? I tend to be behind the music, but when I do perform, I conform with being able to do a sound check! The last time I performed some of my collaborations in public (end of 2022), I wasn’t offered an opportunity to do one, and right before I was about to sing, the team didn’t have my instrumental tracks, which had me hastily send them to one of the crew team. All this made me very nervous, but I pulled it off, somewhat exhausted afterwards! Favourite clubbing memory and who or what did it involve? The Clubland era was my favourite… I have many memories of fun nights out from Southport, Manchester, Rome, Liège, Glasgow, Manresa, Barcelona… Trying to remember one in particular is not easy! Most recent one was in Barcelona – great atmosphere, venue, company, but the music was questionable! What famous quote represents you best? One of my own: ‘You have to be MAD in this world… Motivated, Ambitious and Determined.’ A “famous” one: ‘You live a new life for every new language you speak.’ (Czech proverb, apparently) If you could play at any venue, where would it be and why? Tomorrowland. No explanation needed! I would love to perform some of my bangers there. Music is….. My life. I don’t know a world without music. I do sometimes need a break from it, silence is often music to my ears, said silence cannot always be found. Music controls me, music is me. One song you really couldn’t live without and why? Dido – Take My Hand. An incredible production/composition. Milk Inc. got me into EDM, and Dido’s influence on my non-EDM side is as important. She, too, has an EDM side. Namedrop your favourite 5 artists or DJs (past or present) Past: Milk Inc (Belgium)., 4 Strings (Netherlands), Lasgo (Belgium), Paradise -Rob Grice & Stu Connor (England), my collaborator L.A.B.S (Scotland), Present: Infernal (Denmark), my collaborator DJ Divinluks (Italy), Daní Martín (Spain), Armin van Buuren (Netherlands), Aitana (Spain). What was your first music memory and how did it fuel your fire? I’ve already mentioned it in a previous question, the Spanish children’s song ‘Veo, Veo’ by Teresa Rabal, and flamenco… No doubt about it, such a dominant influence of Spanish music from such a tender age, it’s no surprise that Spain is my ‘home sweet home’, and has been for many years! Tell us more about your plans for the future: I have my fourth album released this coming March ‘The EDM Collection’ by JJ PARKI & Co. showcasing my EDM collaborations, there’s even a ‘deluxe edition’ coming later in the year. Radio interview coming very soon. I’ve applied for several contests, let’s see if one of my collaborations is chosen… Any worldly advice you’d like to share? Like I mentioned previously, be M.A.D. and believe in yourself, believe in what you have to offer to the world of music. Art is meant to be spoken about, it’s meant to be loved, liked, criticised, disliked and hated. If you, personally, don’t like a song that you’ve worked on, then change it or bin it. Many projects I’ve shelved (indefinitely) or willingly deleted. The path to success is a lonely one, but it’s YOUR path, so keep walking down it, even if you have to climb mountains!
