Seismic Dance Event deserves its place amongst today’s list of must-attend dance music festivals [Review]
Words by Ross Goldenberg and Zach Salafia Just take a few moments to think of a few dance music festivals from the top of your head. Over the past decade-plus, we’ve had the fortune of festivals like Ultra, Tomorrowland, and CRSSD Festival becoming a constant in our event calendar. And while we have zero plans of those annual trips changing anytime soon, it was time for Dancing Astronaut to broaden its festival horizons and travel to a weekend-long event that wouldn’t have necessarily come straight to mind had we been asked that original question in years past. But one thing that we did know ahead of time is that year in and year out, Seismic Dance Event has routinely curated one of the finest billings in house and techno in today’s festival landscape. When the Real Music Events-backed festival published its 7.0 edition lineup this past May, it grabbed our attention without even reading until the very bottom of the poster. A couple of months later and we turned that temptation into reality, with a plan fully locked in to head to Austin in November and secure some first-hand verification surrounding the endless number of positive comments that we’ve heard about Seismic Dance Event. And after those three days were all said and done, we can officially confirm that we were able to do just that. Last three days absolutely flew by but Seismic 2024 has to be up there with some of my favorite festival experiences in recent memory A million vids + more thoughts about DA Seismic year 1 soon but firstly just want to give a massive thank you to the @SeismicTX team pic.twitter.com/v4D63kmKjP — Dancing Astronaut (@dancingastro) November 18, 2024 To set both the literal and figurative stage for those continuing to read, Seismic Dance Event mainly finds itself occupying the surrounding grounds of Austin’s go-to locale for dance music, The Concourse Project, which includes the Tsunami stage—the festival’s outdoor mainstage—as well as a pair of more intimate stages known as The Realm and The Secret. But Seismic also has a footprint within The Concourse Project—a year-round, indoor venue on the site—where attendees can find the Volcano stage. Within just moments of stepping out of our Uber—which we would like to note was an incredibly seamless method of transportation both to and from the site—and strolling around the festival, an early takeaway we gathered was that Seismic—which self-describes itself as a “boutique festival”—had both an intimate event feel while simultaneously feeling more than spacious. Areas like food concessions, merch, and bathrooms were nothing more than a stone’s throw away and had virtually little to no lines any time we’d walk by. Unlike larger-sized festivals where travel time between stages expectedly must be accounted for, Seismic’s compact layout made it nearly painless to bounce from stage to stage, with congestion and sound bleed having not crossed our minds for an instant. And we say “nearly painless” because as many can attest to, there was often a lengthy line to enter the Volcano stage, which we would very loosely label as our one and only “complaint” of the weekend. But that’s simply the unfortunate reality of a space that can only fit 2,000 people of the 5,000 or so daily festival attendees. Especially when there were several highly anticipated sets like Wax Motif back-to-back Matroda, Max Styler, Cloonee, and more going on inside. And while we’re not entirely sure what Seismic’s direct answer to that problem would be, we’d like to counter the above sentence in saying that the Volcano stage never felt the slightest bit overcrowded at any point during the weekend. And the same can be said for any of the other stages. We all know that‘s become a serious topic of conversation in today’s day and age as well as being a key determining factor when deciding the next event or festival to attend. Even when the headliners came on at either Volcano or Tsunami, there always seemed to be plenty of space to move in any which direction. Something else that we also felt the need to point out is the neighborly community the Seismic team has cultivated. Throughout our entire stay, everyone we’d come in contact with—from Seismic attendees to Seismic’s festival staff to Seismic’s two owners, Kelly Gray and Andrew Parsons—were welcoming, friendly, and open-armed at any moment of the day. And that genuinely added another layer of enjoyment to our overarching Seismic experience. We—of course—cannot continue this without diving into the actual reason we made the trip out to Austin: the lineup. It’d be a severe understatement if the word “stacked” rolled off our tongues when describing the list of names that Seismic rounded up for its 7.0 installment. And we knew that from the moment we had laid eyes on the poster back in May. We could spend the next several hours talking about every single set that we’d taken in during those three days, but we’ll do our best to condense it all for now. Our weekend commenced on Friday at the Tsunami stage as the sun began to fall during Madison Palmer, Seismic’s own Andrew Parsons, and Layton Giordani. And as nightfall ensued, we journeyed into The Concourse Project—for the first time—for a string of tech-house sets from Westend, Deeper Purpose, and Sonny Fodera before ultimately returning back outside to close day one with the Dark Prince himself, Gesaffelstein. Immediately following the final moments of day one, we had our doubts about how day two or day three could possibly surpass our debut stint at Seismic. But we were gladly proven wrong, with day two including a pair of standout sets from melodic techno favorites like KAS:ST and Massano at Tsunami before we were led back to the Volcano stage for Riordan, Max Styler—who we ultimately crowned as Dancing Astronaut‘s weekend favorite—and finally, Waxtroda. And our day two festival evening concluded back outdoors at Tsunami once again with Carl Cox’s hybrid set. In between our Sunday to truly explore everything the festival had to offer beyond its two primary stages, we still tallied up some memorable performances from Jerro, Sammy Virji, Disclosure, and none other than Eric Prydz himself—who was accompanied by a brief rain mist—to cap off the festival portion of the weekend. Seismic’s lineup was about as well curated as it possibly gets from top to bottom, with headliners fully cashing in on the lofty expectations that we had for them and Seismic’s well-rounded undercard delivering countless standout moments from the weekend. And aside from the on-and-off again rain—which we were admittedly in favor of—that had sprinkled in throughout Prydz’s closing appearance, we have to make mention that our first trip to Seismic had certainly lucked out considering the absolutely sublime weather that served as the backdrop to the weekend. We would be remiss if we didn’t nod to what went on once the festival curfew hit each evening and the party moved indoors. Normally once a festival concludes, the journey must be made elsewhere for those looking to extend the evening. But a massive perk of Seismic’s approach was that its afterparties were hosted on site within both The Concourse Project as well as a separate room—no more than 100 yards away—called Club BLK. And we found ourselves in either of the two rooms into the early hours of each morning, switching off between locations on night one, spending night two with Riordan and Matroda, and expectedly rounding out the weekend with Jerro before receiving a two-hour masterclass of a set from Eric Prydz under his alter-ego, Cirez D. For as intimate as the Seismic feels upon first glance, its production undoubtedly holds its own amongst the best as soon as everything kicks into action. Seismic’s stage designs were top-tier across the board—with a special shoutout to PHASE[3] Concepts, who were behind the Tsunami’s stage design—and its sound quality seemed to rival any club or festival setup that we’d previously come in contact with. Factoring in everything from its stage and lighting production to its sound quality to simply the room on the dancefloor, The Concourse Project felt like it was amongst the finest indoor spaces that we’ve had the pleasure of experiencing thus far. And it even had an additional LED panel that spanned a majority of the roof—which was implemented solely for the festival weekend—which certainly elevated the Volcano stage experience. But even without that roof LED addition, The Concourse Project felt like a first-class space that we are itching to visit again during a non-Seismic part of the calendar. If we could sum up our weekend in Austin in just one sentence, it would be the following: Seismic Dance Event is the pound-for-pound best festival that we’ve ever experienced in more than a decade of attending dance music events. We’d never been to Seismic. We’d never been to Austin. And we’d never even step foot in the state of Texas. While reminiscing at the airport on Monday morning, we consistently found ourselves bringing up the idea that the weekend went about as flawlessly as it gets when it comes to all the moving parts that make up a festival trip. And with the year-long countdown now on until Seismic’s 8.0 edition in 2025, we are one-million percent in favor of giving Seismic Dance Event a permanent spot on the Dancing Astronaut event calendar going forward. Thank you so much to Seismic Dance Event, Real Music Events, The Concourse Project, and all of those involved that made the festival happen. David Guetta and Nicki Minaj Reunite for New Single With Davido, "If It's Okay"
Celebrating a decade of The Pinkprint, Nicki Minaj has reunited with David Guetta for a new collaboration, "If It's Okay." Featuring the sultry vocals of Davido, it's a reunion that feels like it was written in the stars. Minaj, ever the chameleon, shifts effortlessly between smooth and sharp, delivering her lines with a playful confidence that feels both mischievous and empowering. Davido then enters the mix like a breath of fresh air, his voice adding an irresistible flavor that ties the track together. It's radio-ready, yet far from predictable—a perfect storm of pop and Afrobeats that proves Guetta and Minaj still know how to make magic. Guetta and Minaj have made their mark on contemporary music through the years, collaborating on a handful of dance-pop hits that remain fan-favorites. Those include "Where Them Girls At" and "Turn Me On"—both of which released back in 2011—as well as 2015's "Hey Mama" and 2017's "Light My Body Up." "If It's Okay" appears on an expanded version of The Pinkprint, Minaj's third studio album, in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The new version features a number of previously unreleased songs, including "Arctic Tundra," which stunningly features the late hip-hop superstar Juice WRLD. Alison Wonderland and Subtronics Team Up for New Dubstep Banger, "No One Does It Like"
When you combine Subtronics' heavy dubstep and Alison Wonderland's spellbinding soundscapes, the result is an instant classic, "No One Does It Like." Starting with an eerie melody featuring distant screams, "No One Does It Like" slowly builds tension as Wonderland's ethereal vocals guide us into a grating, bass-riddled dubstep drop. Later on, they flip the drop sequence on its head with a dark and seamless blend of both producers' styles. Out now via Cyclops Recordings, the track doesn't mark the first time Wonderland and Subtronics have collaborated, though it is their first original song. The duo recently joined forces to remix Creeds' global hit "Push Up" into a drum & bass banger, which quickly became a performance staple. The new single had already proven itself a hit after appearing in Wonderland's recent Red Rocks performance and Subtronics' doubleheader at San Francisco's famed Bill Graham Civic Center. The latter also hosted three nights of his beloved Cyclops Dome event last weekend, when the pair showcased the track live together for the first time. Kruelty’s Bold Debut: Bloodbath Machinery Has Arrived
On November 13th, Kruelty, the DJ and producer known for his hard-hitting and sinister approach to music, with a style that blends elements of hardstyle, hard techno, and industrial hardcore, released his very first album, Bloodbath Machinery. EDMHouseNetwork had the honor of interviewing him about the release, and here is what we found out. Anyone who truly delves into the expansive world of electronic dance music (EDM) will uncover a vibrant spectrum of genres, each offering unique and captivating sounds you might never have imagined existed. On one side, you will find something gentler and more melodic, such as progressive house or melodic techno. While on the other, you’ll encounter the raw power and intensity of hardcore and industrial techno, pushing the limits of energy and sound. If you dare to venture into the shadows of EDM, you will find Kruelty—a haunting figure born of darkness. Shrouded in mystery and devoid of identity, Kruelty conjures music that pulses with aggressive beats, dark atmospheres, and unrelenting energy. By fusing the raw intensity of hard techno, structured rhythms of hardstyle, and the abrasive textures of industrial hardcore, Kruelty creates tracks that are sonically challenging, terrifyingly intense, but at the same time, irresistibly captivating. Throughout his career, Kruelty has commanded the stages of major festivals like Defqon 1, Decibel Outdoor, Verknipt, Shockerz, PACT, and Rebellion. His dark presence and uncompromising sound have made him a force to be reckoned with, and his discography tells the story of an artist who constantly pushes the boundaries of his craft. Each release feels like a descent into shadowed realms, a testament to his talent, creativity, and the raw energy he draws from the dark realms. Now, on the 13th of November, Kruelty has unveiled his most sinister creation yet: the long-anticipated debut album, Bloodbath Machinery. In an interview, EDMHouseNetwork got the unique opportunity to talk with Kruelty, who told us about the deeply personal journey that led to the creation of his debut album. “My main goal was to showcase everything that I am capable of, everything that’s been stuck inside me,” he said, reflecting on the inspiration behind Bloodbath Machinery. Known for his ability to merge industrial hardstyle, techno, hardcore, and hardstyle, Kruelty explained how the album became a true representation of his identity. “To truly express who I am and what I stand for, an album felt like the only true form to showcase this to the world.” For him, the album is not just music; it’s an escape into a world where there are no rules or boundaries. “You can find your own inner demon in this album” , he added. Creating this unrestrained work required more than just musical talent—it demanded a complete hands-on approach. For Kruelty, the most rewarding part of the process was the absolute control he held over every detail—from the artwork to the music videos and everything in between. “Everything was crafted by me and my team’s hands. We shot it all ourselves, in my basement. The people, the blood, the chains—it was all our doing.” he revealed. This allowed Kruelty to craft more than just music; it became a visceral form of art that defies conventional boundaries. “I believe this pushed the limits of the hard dance scene. We created something more than music—something dangerous. Art, raw and unfiltered.” he declared. Among the album’s tracks, one holds a particularly special meaning for Kruelty: the title track, Bloodbath Machinery. “The energy in this track is unlike any other track I produced. Ever.” he revealed. With vocals written and recorded by Qoiet, the track embodies the raw emotion that defines the entire album. “The vocals, written and recorded by Qoiet, are twisted and perfect—he captured exactly what I wanted to express. It’s the heart of the album—pure darkness and extremely bloody.” he explained. Even with such a clear artistic vision, the album-making process brought moments of surprise. Kruelty recalled the unexpected crowd response to STUGNA-Z. “It’s one of the more twisted, out-of-control pieces at the moment. Yet, the crowd embraces it,” he said. For him, the track reflects the chaos his fans crave. “And I give it to them.” he added with a smirk in his voice. The ability to connect with his audience goes hand-in-hand with the emotional depth that inspires Kruelty’s music. In terms of inspiration, he draws it from more than just sound—it’s the emotions behind it that often spark his creativity. “A haunting, melancholic piano piece can stir something deep inside of me.” he shared, illustrating how his music stems from a desire to evoke powerful, ingrained feelings rather than adhering to specific genres or styles. This emotional depth is also balanced by a unique and sometimes humorous relationship with his fans. “During meet-and-greets, I’ve been asked to choke fans for photos.” he revealed with a grin in his voice. “I love that these things just become a thing out of nowhere. There’s a certain dark humor in this—something that cuts through the serious tone of voice. I love my fans for that. They get it.” For those stepping into his world for the first time, Kruelty’s aim is total immersion. “Trapped in a concrete jungle, where every step is uncertain and every sound is almost too heavy to understand.” he described. “My music speaks the unspeakable—the suppressed emotions, the things we can’t articulate. It’s too big to fully comprehend, not meant for you to take or keep. Just feel it.” Kruelty and his music occupy a space not everyone dares to explore—a place with raw intensity, emotion, and chaos converged into a musical experience that defies convention. His ability to merge genres like hard techno, hardstyle, and industrial hardcore isn’t about appealing to the masses but about reaching those who truly understand the art behind the darkness and aggression. Besides getting the honor of interviewing Kruelty, EDMHouseNetwork also got invited to the album release event of Bloodbath Machinery, which turned out to be one of the most unique experiences we’ve ever had. Contrary to what most people who’ve never attended this kind of event might think, this is where you’ll meet some of the kindest, happiest, most open-hearted people out there. Kruelty’s album release event was no different, and we were beyond impressed by how the incredibly loyal and excited fan base was beat-matching perfectly to every single kick, drop, and sound of the tracks that Kruelty and his guests played. A kind of vibe, energy, and sense of community that we’ve never seen before, and it was a truly beautiful sight. As he looks ahead, Kruelty’s future is as bold as his music. Alongside a collaboration with Warface, Riot Shift, and his new solo track YOU ARE MINE, he’s most excited about Kruelty Presents: THE KULT, his upcoming event at TivoliVredenburg on January 4th. “It’s the perfect stage to reveal what I’ve been keeping hidden. Dark visuals, twisted art, and live performers.” he said, with unmistakable excitement in his voice. Are you ready to descend into the shadows and embrace the darkness of Kruelty’s world? If the thought of his sinister creations and Kruelty Presents: THE KULT sends shivers down your spine, make sure to follow Kruelty on his socials that you can find below. And make sure to stay close—his journey promises to be as relentless and unforgiving as his sound. You don’t want to miss your chance to witness the chaos unfold. s

Ferry Corsten's New Album Captures Decades of Genre Mastery: Listen to "Connect"
Listening to Ferry Corsten's new album, Connect, feels like stepping into a time machine. Each track from the influential DJ and producer's sixth studio album is a postcard from his career, charting his evolution from trance purist to genre-agnostic innovator. Corsten paints Connect as a career retrospective, reimagining his signature sound through brushstrokes that represent his evolution as a music producer. "While I may be best known for trance, I've explored a range of genres over the years—house, progressive, even techno. This album is a culmination of those styles, woven together across tracks in dynamic layers and moments," Corsten explained in a press release. "If you’ve followed my music, I hope you'll recognize these influences and hear the depth and variety within this sound." Ferry Corsten.c/o Armada Music Out now under Corsten's Flashover Recordings banner via Armada Music, the album comprises 15 tracks. Those include collaborations with Marsh, 22Bullets and Silva City, the collaborative alias of Alan Fitzpatrick and Reset Robot, among others. Corsten manages to transform nostalgic impulses into forward-looking music that pulses with contemporary energy throughout Connect. Look no further than "Wish," a masterclass in controlled reinvention where he crafts a dancefloor elegy through lyrics that pull you into the glow of a memory you can't quite touch—but can't let go of either. Another undeniable highlight is "Total Eclipse," where Corsten weaves a cocoon of vintage breakbeats that unfurls as a miniature universe unto itself. Here, Chris Howard's tortured vocals are a lunar waltz between despair and distant hope: "I check my phone again / Nothing's making sense / I wonder where it ends / A total eclipse," he croons. No DAW? No Problem! SoundCloud Launches Free AI Integrations to Produce Music
Streaming platform SoundCloud has launched six AI-powered tools aimed at helping artists and fans remix, edit, and produce music without traditional software or equipment. These tools include Tuney (for remixing and producing tracks), ACE Studio (which generates vocals and lyrics), and TwoShot (for creating custom samples). Tracks created using these tools will be tagged to indicate the specific AI tool used. The company claims these tools will help “democratize music creation,” with SoundCloud CEO Eliah Seton emphasizing AI’s potential to unlock creative possibilities while maintaining ethical practices. SoundCloud has also joined the AI For Music initiative, which sets guidelines for responsible AI use in the music industry. This launch follows previous AI integrations on SoundCloud, such as Fadr, Soundful, and Voice-Swap introduced earlier this year. Additionally, SoundCloud previously rolled out AI mastering with Dolby in 2020. The move comes as other platforms, like YouTube, are experimenting with AI for remixing licensed songs. SoundCloud’s push for AI tools coincides with growing debates about AI’s impact on the music industry, including concerns over potential revenue losses for musicians by 2028 and calls for AI regulation. Adam Beyer x Eli Brown Release Exciting Overdose of Bass EP
It’s New Music Friday, and the wait is finally over! We are excited for this new release of the two-track EP, Overdose of Bass by the phenomenal duo Eli Brown and Adam Beyer. Fans have been buzzing with anticipation since their electrifying back-to-back performance in September at Lisbon’s Brunch Electronik. Now, as it hits the shelves on Drumcode, dive into Overdose of Bass and let us know what you think! Overdose of Bass – Two Track EP This dynamic techno two-tracker combines the signature styles and incredible talent of Adam Beyer and Eli Brown, making it a must-listen release. The title track ‘Overdose of Bass’ features a heavy, rumbling bassline that commands attention, truly living up to its name. With crisp, driving percussion pushing the beat forward, the track creates an exhilarating sense of momentum. The rattling snares and intense breakbeats lead into a processed spoken vocal, delivering a captivating half-sensual, half-robotic riff of “there it goes/overdose of bass.” Coupled with Doppler siren builds, this creates a mysterious, spacey call-and-response that will resonate on the dance floor. Perfectly crafted for peak-time moments, this track is poised to become a must-have festival anthem this fall! ‘Living in The Moment’ the standout second track of this extraordinary EP, transcends conventional techno music. It captivates listeners with its soaring, emotive melody that inspires a profound sense of uplift. The driving techno beat, paired with a pulsating Moroder-esque bass synth and an ever-intensifying riff, creates a sense of urgency that pulls you in. The hauntingly beautiful female vocal adds an ethereal touch, especially during the powerful central breakdown, making for an unforgettable listening experience. The track expertly balances darker, industrial techno elements with uplifting, almost ethereal tones. This duality makes it versatile, fitting both underground clubs and massive festival stages. The driving bassline and precise percussion ensure it retains the raw power expected from a Drumcode release. The combination of these elements results in two tracks that capture the emotional highs of living fully in the moment. They also still being a dancefloor weapon. It is a testament to Adam Beyer and Eli Brown’s ability to push boundaries while still staying true to techno’s core. Hope you enjoy the EP as much as we do. Stay tuned to EDMTunes for your favourite music updates. The post Adam Beyer x Eli Brown Release Exciting Overdose of Bass EP appeared first on EDMTunes.

Dance music’s tireless innovator Tiësto just dropped summer in a bottle. “Tantalizing,” his latest Musical Freedom release with Bahamian hitmaker Soaky Siren, merges steamy Caribbean rhythms with mainstage muscle, proving the Grammy winner’s still pushing boundaries 25 billion streams into his career. Fresh off turning “Drive” into 2023’s first gold dance album and announcing his genre-spanning Prismatic shows, Tiësto’s tapped the perfect collaborator. Siren, the Latin Grammy-nominated pen behind hits for Jason Derulo and Lizzo, brings raw island energy to the Dutch legend’s crisp production. The result? A cross-cultural club weapon that feels both fresh and inevitable. Between his landmark Vegas residency deal and Siren’s recent Riton collab, both artists are operating at peak power. “Tantalizing” isn’t just another notch in Tiësto’s platinum-studded belt – it’s proof that dance music’s elder statesman still knows how to read the room, even when he’s rewriting the rules. Watch the Tender Music Video for Martin Garrix and Jex's New Dance Anthem, "Told You So"
Martin Garrix and Jex have joined forces for a new single, "Told You So," a sparkling cocktail of house-pop euphoria served with a bittersweet twist. Out now via STMPD and Casablanca Records, the track captures that electric moment of romantic recognition when your heart seems to know something your mind is still processing. Through Garrix's production finesse and Jex's aching vocals, it beautifully explores a tug-of-war between the fear of regret and the thrill of vulnerability. "Told You So" surges with that undercurrent of urgent emotional momentum, its lyrics transporting us inside veins attached to a heart that prefers instinct over hesitation. Jex's hook, "Don't wanna hear my heart say, 'I told you so,'" feels like a mantra for anyone daring to leap into love despite the risk of free-fall. Meanwhie, her tortured vocals slice through Garrix's shimmering synths, balancing an anthemic intensity with a confessional softness. Blending festival energy with late-night introspection, the song is like running through rain—an electrifying rush that feels both exhilarating and tender. Check out the official music video below. The roots of "Told You So" can be traced to TikTok, where Jex posted a video of her singing the song's vocal hook. That clip caught the attention of Garrix, who "immediately" reached out to produce the track, according to a press release. "From writing this hook alone in my apartment, to Martin finding it and bringing it to life, this entire thing has been a dream come true," Jex said. "'Told You So' is so authentic and special, and I am stoked for it to finally be out in the world." You can find "Told You So" on streaming platforms here. In Conversation with Mozey
In the ever-evolving world of drum & bass, we have been blessed with so many new household names coming to the forefront of our scene over the last decade. In 2017, a producer called Michael Hitches embarked on a journey that would see him become one of the most popular names in the electronic dance world. Known to everyone worldwide as Mozey, his killer productions, and epic DJ sets, have orchestrated a meteoric rise which has shown no signs of letting up any time soon. The eccentric performer from Essex has been the name on everyone’s lips over the last few years, responsible for some of your favourite drum & bass sets in recent times. His euphoric energy resonates with that of the old-school hardcore scene, which he took a lot of inspiration from back in his early raving days. A truly one-of-a-kind entertainer behind the decks, it’s clear to see for all how passionate he is throughout the abundance of stellar performances he’s executed. His undeniable understanding of the rave scene is a real cornerstone in how he curates his sets in the dance. In his artillery of tracks, he boasts some of the best jump-up songs in the game including, the bouncy, ‘Hands In The Air VIP’, the recently released ‘High Energy’, and the climactic ‘Run (Part 2)’ – you can expect a relentless energetic aura around each and every production. With releases on some of the best labels around including Rinse, Hospital Records, V Recordings, and Souped Up, as well as playing at some of the most iconic venues in the UK and around the world, it’s fair to say his journey has seen him reach the very top. On the back end of his UK ‘High Energy’ tour which includes a big London show at Electric Brixton and XOYO event in Birmingham over the course of the weekend, as well as already completing sold-out shows in Southampton, Brighton, Nottingham, Bristol, and Cardiff throughout November, and a final event in Leeds coming up on December 6, we are treated to a final act of the year that will undoubtedly sign off 2024 as Mozey’s most prolific period to date. We caught up with the maverick selector taking a look back on his fascinating career, and what we can expect from him moving forward. What influenced you to follow the drum & bass scene growing up? Musically, I was always into alternative music. Stuff that was outside the box like metal and punk. The dance music sort of came a little further down the line. Once I was getting ready to leave school, I had a couple of mates that had started raving and that’s what got me into the drum & bass scene. I was more into the old-school hardcore stuff. My first rave was a Tranzmission one at Alexandra Palace. That was a big one to start with. In regards to DJing and producing, that was way down the line for me. I was definitely a raver before anything else. For about 10 years, I was just happy with going raving. Just through having a lot of mates in the scene, and having my face recognised, helped a lot when I decided to give a career in the scene a go. I guess meeting a lot of people through your raving days helped you understand how the scene worked a lot better. Yes, it did. In my time raving I’d be getting to know the promoters, DJs, and a bunch of other people who were heavily involved in the scene – going out with them to the events. It was equally as important to see what mistakes people were making and learning from that. A lot of acts come into the scene quite green and it’s easy for them to get wrapped up in it all. Because I was a bit older when I was making a go of it all, I think that it helped me not make a lot of the mistakes that other people might make. When it came down to my productions, it helped that I already knew a lot of the legends in the scene through various different friends. For example, if there was a release on V Recordings it helped that I already knew Bryan Gee and Jumpin Jack Frost. Obviously the tracks needed to be good, but it goes a long way in terms of getting your tunes heard if you already know the people who need to listen to it. Networking back in my raving days certainly achieved that. What DJs and producers were you feeling during these formative years? My favourite DJ at the rave was Hazard. But also, the likes of G Dub, Sub Zero, Original Sin, and Taxman were levelling up the jump-up stuff around that time. Things started feeling a little bit more thought out. This was a time where jump-up was getting played out across the board throughout the scene. Funnily enough, when it came to making music I wasn’t really making jump-up to start with. I was making the deeper, liquid stuff. In the end, that side of things wasn’t really what I was about as a raver, so I started making the sub-genres I enjoyed listening to from the events I used to attend. What was life like before Mozey the DJ? I started off as a plumber at a school. Then I became a heating engineer. I was doing mechanical engineering. I got a degree in mechanical engineering with the Open University. I did that whilst I was working with a renewable energy company. That actually helped me get in the mindset of just getting stuff done. I was working and studying, whilst also trying to make tunes. It’s really prepared me for the busy schedule I now have. I did actually have a career change after the mechanical engineering gig and went back to my studies to learn about sound engineering. I ended up getting a job as a sound engineer in a post-production studio. I was doing the audio for films and adverts for about five or six years. I was really progressing within the profession but my music career started to drastically pick up so I had to let the studio know I was going to take up my music full-time. Before we move onto life as Mozey the DJ and Producer, what were some of the standout raves you were attending as a punter? The Breakin Science events were always the best for me. I did love the vibe. Although it was a proper rough drum & bass crowd. Anything that was at the old Coronet was so much fun. Also, the MC conventions at Brixton’s Mass were mad, there were some horror stories from that venue. Back then, I loved nothing better than a rough jump-up rave. How did the journey as Mozey the DJ begin? Well, my first release was in 2017 and it took 2 or 3 years before I moved on to Serial Killaz, Souped Up, and stuff like that. In that period I was only just finding myself as a producer. These things always take a bit of time. Especially trying to find a sound that makes you happy. When it came to DJing, first and foremost, I was always just a producer. I used to muck around with some mates on the decks back in the day, but it was never anything serious. It was only when I was starting to get noticed through my own tunes that I started to get a couple of bookings. I realised then that I needed to start learning how to DJ properly, as that part of it was never really something I tried to achieve. The first set I did was a COVID-restricted event in Bristol where everyone was sat down. I struggled that day, but gradually as I started watching and learning from other DJs I began to get better. Within a few months, I was able to sort myself out. Despite the initial struggle I just got on with it to be honest, and I’m still learning all the time. Wow, you’ve really picked up that side of things quickly! Thanks, I’d like to think so. I’ve learnt that things are constantly changing. What the ravers want can change, so it’s important to keep in touch with that. Just getting yourself in front of a crowd really helps. Once you have the massive club monitors near you, or something cuts out, or the CDJs aren’t working properly, you learn how to manage a bunch of different scenarios during the rave. If something goes wrong now I’m way more equipped to deal with it. It seems you’ve taken things to the next level over the last two years. What’s been some key moments contributing to your rise within the scene? One of the big ones was the DnB Allstars 360 set at The Cause last April. The set on YouTube did really well. It would’ve been the first time a lot of people saw me being serious about the DJ side of things. Beforehand, everyone knew I was on the production graft. It was the first real taste a wider audience got of what it’s like to see me play live. I was able to showcase my energy. Playing on the main stage at Printworks was a gamble DnB Allstars took with me and I feel like, again, I was able to show off what I’m all about. The reach these sets get online does really help. So a Big thanks to them. Playing at Wembley for Hedex’s event, as well as when he brought me out on Boomtown’s main stage in 2023 for his closing set were also big moments for me. Playing at a festival like Boomtown where I’ve been going as a raver for so many years and being on such a big stage was such a full-circle moment. Were there any releases that you’d say have been significant to your journey? The last 12 months have definitely been very important release wise. The ‘Hands In The Air’ VIP became a staple tune in loads of peoples’ sets. Serum encouraged me to VIP the track. The difference between the original and the VIP was that this one was easy to build in the clubs. I learnt a lot from Serum showing me that there were different ways to market and get a record out. ‘Party Muscle’ and ‘Run’ were also other big tunes for me. I feel like they were unique ideas at the time. ‘Run’ was especially a big one that blew up in the club as well as the socials. Having these types of club tracks is what I’m all about and it’s definitely cemented me as a good club DJ. It was wicked to do a few releases with Rinse at the beginning of the year. My latest single ‘High Energy’ is out with them and it’s already been doing the rounds in the club scene. Souped Up Records seem to have really believed in you with some of your most noticeable tracks coming with them. How does it feel to get support from such an exciting label? It’s great. Serum, who runs the label, has been like a mentor to me over the years and has been a massive part of my journey so far. The relationship between me and the label really works because of my approach to music. I’m here to try and have fun and entertain people, I feel that’s the ethos of the label. It’s been a while since I’ve worked with the label so I’d love to get back working with Souped Up again next year. Let’s talk about the High Energy Tour. It’s sold out which is amazing. So far we’ve had Southampton, Brighton, Nottingham, Bristol, Cardiff. We’ve got London, Birmingham, and Leeds to come at some unreal venues. I’d already done a few headline bits that have sold out like at Village Underground and Earth Hackney, both in London. I guess the next step was to get a regional tour going around the UK to give back to the fans. It’s been flying with some unreal DJs on the bill. Headline shows are my favourite thing to do because it’s your crowd. I’m sure everyone says it, but I feel like my crowd are the best ravers. The other acts that play on my bills will always tell me about how amazing my crowd was for them. It’s a real blessing being able to play out my tunes to such a brilliant set of fans. What were some highlights of the summer? I did a big Australia and New Zealand tour with Chase & Status. The scene over there is unreal. It blew my mind that they knew all my tunes considering I was so far away from home. I’ve got more stuff coming up over there so I can’t wait to go back. I also did a North America tour with Hedex which, again, was insane. Every crowd over there really brought the energy. I did especially love going to New York though. The UK festival season really delivered for me this year. My set at Parklife had a huge crowd. It was a surreal experience. Playing The Glade stage at Glasto was wicked. What can I say? Glasto is Glasto. Finally, going to Ibiza is always a treat. There were so many things to choose from. Your fanbase is arguably one of the loudest in the scene. It must be nice to have such dedicated support… I’m the luckiest person in the world to have that kind of fanbase. I try to give as much back to them as they’ve given to me. I grew up watching so many DJs, I remember if I didn’t feel a certain energy back from them I’d start questioning whether they even wanted to be there. Every time I step in front of a crowd of ravers I give it a hundred percent every time. It’s a really special thing. I try to interact as much as I can with them on socials. At the end of the day, if you haven’t got your fans you haven’t got much else. When I was a raver and meeting my favourite DJs I remember how special that was. I’ll always put in the effort with my following, I enjoy it as much as they do. Have there been any standout collaborations you’ve had? In terms of DJing, I’ve loved going back to back with Serum. Hopefully, we can play out together more. And with production, I’ve enjoyed doing a couple of tunes with Hedex. I really get on, and work well, with him. In general, I don’t like to do lots of back to backs or production collaborations as I like to play my own sets. I have to admit, collaborations in the studio or on the decks are quite rare for me. But if I buy into the idea of working with someone then I’ll definitely give it a go. What’s next for Mozey? In 2025 there’ll be lots of international stuff, as well as plenty more UK events. In terms of making music, I just want to carry on enjoying making my music and see what happens. I’d love to do a bigger project next year, whether that be an album or something to that scale we’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully, there’ll be some collaborations with people I enjoy working with. It’s hard to picture too much. As things have started going on such an upward trajectory for me, it’s important to just stay focused and work as hard as I can. Catch Mozey At XOYO Birmingham

The return of Roman Flügel
No Solutions EP by Roman Flügel Roman Flügel returns to Phantasy with his second release of 2024 on Erol Alkan’s beloved London label, ‘No Solutions EP’. Following on from ‘Hotel Kathargo / Energies’, which garnered a summer of support from a typically diverse array of DJs including Gerd Janson, Jamie Jones and Saoirse, ‘No Solutions’ expands Flügel’s contributions to Phantasy into a triple track delight, another generous expression of his lifelong immersion in electronic music culture. Transporting the zeitgeist of future-facing, eighties pop production onto modern dance floors, the title track ‘No Solutions’ is a fizzy, escalating ode to some of Flügel’s very earliest musical influences. Playfully channeling the wide-eyed electronics pioneered by The Human League or Soft Cell, it accelerates into a contemporary funhouse of wild oscillations and dreamy melodies. ‘Sapphire’ shifts this sound palette forward, a steady acid-not-acid bubbler that maintains maximum intrigue and pressure, occasionally breaking through its hazy clouds with pillowy breakdowns and a sense of space-age whimsy. Flügel takes the same palette in a different, more exacting direction on ‘Dragged’, spinning a creeping, Krautrock-esque groove that pays homage to the steady, lifting pulse of German kosmische traditions. Martin Garrix Unveils Progressive House Anthem “Told You So”
Martin Garrix has launched a ground-breaking new tune that deviates greatly from his usual big room and future house sound in a fascinating musical progression sure to excite the electronic music community. The story behind Martin Garrix’s Told You So Featuring the newly emerging electronic pop sensation Jex, “Told You So” is a nuanced trip into progressive house terrain that highlights the extraordinary musical flexibility of the Dutch superstar. The origin of the song is as contemporary as its sound, evidence of the influence of social media in the scene of modern music. Originally a TikHub event, it developed into a full-fledged musical partnership spanning multiple genres. Recorded just in his apartment, Jex’s first hook attracted Garrix’s discriminating ear and made a basic social media post a worldwide success. The tune beats with contagious energy open with layered synths that progressively create captivating rhythms. Jex’s vocals thread across the song, offering an emotional depth that distinguishes “Told You So” from a standard dance floor hit. Garrix’s technical prowess is evident in his creation of an emotionally compelling yet technically outstanding soundscape. For Garrix, who just tied with Dutch great Armin van Buuren for the most poll wins in history by securing his sixth #1 spot in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, this release arrives at a critical juncture. Working with Jex shows an artist not hesitant to venture into uncharted musical ground and challenge limits. Martin Garrix talks about the new song Garrix said, his enthusiasm clear, “Working on this track with Jex has been an absolute dream.” For Jex, the song marks a turning point as he follows the success of his past joint venture with Rival and Lost Sky, which already has over a million streams. The Sound of Progressive Evolution “Told You So” is a statement rather than a one-sentence observation. The complex bass tones, sweeping strings, and well constructed melodic structure of the tune highlight a more sophisticated, grown-up attitude to electronic music. This progressive house masterwork strikes me as both familiar and revolutionary. Released concurrently with the tune, the accompanying music video looks to be as creative as the song itself. Both supporters and detractors of Garrix’s already outstanding career are calling it a possible game-changer. Now accessible on all digital channels, “Told You So” is more than simply a song; it’s a musical trip allowing fans to taste the next development of Martin Garrix‘s sound. Felix Cartal and Tegan and Sara are ‘Right On Time’ with 90s dance hit
When indie-pop royalty meets festival firepower, magic happens. “Right On Time,” the new collaboration between Juno winner Felix Cartal and alt-pop pioneers Tegan and Sara, isn’t just another dance track – it’s a love letter to 90s rave culture from artists who actually lived it. Long before EDM went mainstream, Tegan and Sara were dance music early adopters, lending their distinctive harmonies to Tiësto and David Guetta tracks. Now they’ve found the perfect modern collaborator in Cartal, whose platinum-certified work with Lights and Karen Harding proves he knows how to handle iconic voices. While the twins tap into their teenage memories of Calgary raves for lyrical inspiration, Cartal (after “only 30 versions”) delivers a stadium-ready production that honors both their indie roots and his festival expertise. Landing just before his Spring 2025 North American tour, “Right On Time” proves some collaborations are worth the wait – even if they take 30 tries to perfect. Her extensive touring schedule this year included Awakenings, Terminal V, Tomorrowland, and killer sets at this ADE’s Gashouder for Drumcode X Awakenings and Dockyard X Mystic Garden Festival. Next month she returns to Australia for a five-date tour including Eat The Beat Festival alongside Carl Cox, Chris Liebing and Lilly Palmer, followed by Gashouder with Awakenings for New Year. Mha Iri’s 2024 releases on Drumcode, FOA and TRICK have made her assertive, hyper-speed brand of techno with melodic elements a key part of the scene in very short time. First EP single ‘Leader Of The Pack’: hits the ground running with racing techno beats, hoover synth chords, and dark, no-prisoners spoken lyrics, while use of doppler FX and multiple stabs keep the vibe dynamic, urgent, relentless. Big breakdowns with siren-sound builds and deep-plunge drops complete the perfect dance fuel. ‘The bigger you get, the more backlash you get. But remember, your passion makes you unique. All the noise isn’t relevant. You’re the boss, bringing something special to the table. Keep following your dreams and be unapologetically you.’ Mha Iri. ‘Give You’ ft. Argy (UK) keeps up the punishing pace with arp-y bass, a solid wall of beats, and higher, resonant vocal riffs, with melodic phases competing with ripped metal stabs in the breakdown, while ‘Go Hard’ goes well hard with rampageous percussion, distorted morse code stutters, mighty breakdowns using doppler to twist the sonic knife as the drop approaches, and a funky male vocal riff – all of it full of hooks from sudden changes or omissions. The Elements theme: Mha Iri is very aware of her Scottish/Gaelic roots, including a ‘deep love for nature. This series of EPs reflects this connection. The four elements – Earth, Air, Fire and Water – provide endless creative interpretation, allowing me to express various aspects of myself as a person and artist’ she says. ‘I found this beautiful amethyst crystal cave in Scotland for the artwork—it felt perfect.’ The first EP, themed around Earth reflects her own grounded and down-to-earth approach in her personal life and career. Mha Iri ‘Leader of the Pack’ single is out now, get it Here. Full EP drops 6th December on [PIAS] Électronique. Save it Here. Track List: Leader of the Pack Give You ft. Gian Varela Launches Monarka Records with Dance Floor Revolution
Panama’s dance music maverick Gian Varela isn’t just dropping a new track – he’s launching a movement. “Revolution,” featuring Grammy-winning powerhouse Cor.Ece (fresh off collaborations with Honey Dijon and that little-known artist Beyoncé), marks the explosive first release on Varela’s Monarka Records. The track fuses Latin house heat with spoken-word swagger, built on thundering kicks and attitude-heavy basslines. It’s a fitting debut for Monarka, which Varela envisions as more than just another label – it’s meant to be a cultural hub where sophisticated Latin house meets underground edge. For Varela, who’s been demolishing stages from Ultra Miami to Tomorrowland Winter, this is a natural evolution. Between his tech house credentials and Cor.Ece’s recent work on “Dance To Keep From Crying,” “Revolution” isn’t just another dance track – it’s a statement of intent for Latin house’s global takeover.
