Insomniac announces the return of EDC Week in Las Vegas, taking place May 14 – 20, 2025, with the unveiling of the first phase of artists to be performing during the weeklong schedule of night and day parties in anticipation of the 29th edition of North America’s largest dance music festival, Electric Daisy Carnival. In the week leading up to the festival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, over 40 of dance music’s biggest names and innovators will inundate 16 of the Strip’s premier indoor and outdoor venues, delivering an unforgettable week of nonstop partying. Beginning on Wednesday, May 14 and continuing on until Monday evening, the week will be packed with best-in-class production and relentless energy. After finding a home in Los Angeles, Cloonee is ready to deliver what he's calling the biggest show of his career in honor of the city that helped him grow. The house music star in June is joining forces with Insomniac's Factory 93 brand to showcase the sounds of his label, Hellbent Records, label in downtown Los Angeles. Cloonee also got in front of the camera and opened up about the impact of his new home, explaining that LA's melting pot of cultures has influenced his artistic endeavors. He recently used his platform to raise money for those affected by the devastating LA wildfires, which scorched over 57,000 acres and killed at least 29 people. Amazon's Alexa+ just got a musical upgrade, but major record labels are not singing along. The tech giant has partnered with AI music company Suno for a new integration that allows users to generate complete songs, including lyrics, vocals and instrumentals, simply by asking Alexa. The feature is part of Amazon's broader rollout of Alexa+, an upgraded version of its voice assistant infused with AI-powered capabilities, according to Billboard. Major labels "are not happy" about Alexa's Suno integration, according to music tech executive Drew Thurlow, Sony's former Head of A&R, who said Amazon's music partners were not notified prior. Even more perplexing is the fact that Amazon Music deepened its relationship with Universal Music Group just two months ago, pledging in late-December to collaborate on efforts to combat "unlawful AI-generated content." The Alexa+ announcement comes at a precarious time for Suno, which is currently embroiled in a contentious legal battle with Universal, Sony and Warner, who have accused it of copyright infringement "on an almost unimaginable scale." Spearheaded by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the lawsuit alleges that Suno used copyrighted recordings without permission to train its AI models. The trade body is seeking damages of up to $150,000 for each copyrighted work. In a court filing, Suno conceded that its AI model "presumably" trained itself on "tens of millions" of copyrighted recordings, though the company maintained that its practices fall within legal bounds. Co-founder and CEO Mikey Shulman has dismissed the explosive lawsuit as "fundamentally flawed," arguing that "learning is not infringing." Shulman poured gasoline on the controversy in January, when he faced ubiquitous backlash after claiming on a podcast that most people find the music creation process "not really enjoyable." Mayor Sadiq Khan has unveiled the city’s first-ever Nightlife Taskforce, an 11-person team set to tackle challenges and opportunities in the capital’s nighttime economy. Among those appointed are fabric cofounder Cameron Leslie (chair of the group), Pxssy Palace founder Nadine Noor, Colour Factory founder Nathanael Williams, and NTIA CEO Michael Kill.
