As if their initial lineup announcement which included major names such as Alesso, KSHMR, and ARGY wasn’t big enough, Sunburn Goa add none other than the Grammy Award-winning EDM juggernaut Skrillex and the South Korean dynamic and global icon Peggy Gou as headliners. 5. ACID ASIAN IG KNTXT IG STREAM BUY Brazilian techno talent Acid Asian, also known as Fábio Seiki, returns to collaborate with Charlotte de Witte, this time showcasing his much-anticipated Deep Soul EP on her renowned KNTXT label. This dynamic collection of tracks showcases his unique fusion of hard techno, acid, rap/trap, and psytrance, reflecting his diverse musical background and innovative approach. “The title track is one of my favourites because it represents me 100%. Focusing on the acid line with this mantra vocal, I wanted to express something more deep to this track. ‘Space Colors’ is a track with which I wanted to express this new hard techno era using the hardstyle’s kick but keeping my style. ‘Ain’t Nobody Like Us’ is my background from rap/trap and ‘Humans’ is my psytrance background, it’s an off-beat track.” Charlotte de Witte, who has supported Acid Asian since 2021, praised the release: “Acid Asian is back! From his first release with us in 2022, it’s been such a pleasure to see him grow and gain respect in the techno scene. We’ve played many shows together and he’s one of the most talented, most instinctive producers out there. Playing Space Colors as the closing track at the main stage of Tomorrowland Brazil where Fábio was dancing in the crowd, was a very wholesome moment. These four tracks are absolute bombs and also show the variety he has to offer as a producer. I’m very excited about this release and I hope you are too!” Since starting the Acid Asian project during the pandemic in 2020, Fábio has rapidly risen in the techno world, becoming the first Brazilian artist to release on Charlotte’s sub-label RPM. With standout performances at Tomorrowland Brasil, DGTL São Paulo, and international gigs across Japan, India, and Europe, Acid Asian continues to leave an indelible mark on the global electronic scene. 9. Simon Shackleton pushes the boundaries with his new multimedia live show, ‘The Shadowmaker’. The first show of its kind from an electronic music producer, this ‘living documentary’ blends live performance of his new album with film and personal storytelling into an exploration of human resilience, vulnerability, and liberation. A raw and unflinching portrayal of self-discovery, ‘The Shadowmaker’ traces Shackleton’s turbulent journey to finding his emotional voice through music. Premiering at Denver’s historic Holiday Theatre on February 8, 2025, this brave and deeply personal show illuminates the inner turmoil that often shadows our lives. “Tracing my own complex, and often troubled, journey to bring this music into the light, ‘The Shadowmaker’ is by far my most personal work to date and also the most empowering,” said Shackleton. “It’s about shining a light on the darker moments, embracing vulnerability, and finding strength through creativity. My hope is that it resonates with anyone who has ever struggled to find their own voice.” Created by the award-winning British producer and his filmmaker wife Chele Gutek, this unique show weaves storytelling, cinematic visuals, soundscapes and documentary footage through the live performance of songs from Shackleton’s upcoming ‘The Shadowmaker’ album. Renowned for igniting dancefloors and festivals worldwide with his epic DJ sets as Elite Force or under his own name, this time out Shackleton showcases his talents as a vocalist and keyboardist, accompanied by world-class drummer and former Lunatic Calm bandmate Jez Noble. Their live musicianship amplifies the show’s cinematic intensity, as Shackleton brings echoes of Pink Floyd, Massive Attack, David Bowie and Thom Yorke to his stunning new compositions of introspective electronica. The evening concludes with a post-show reception soundtracked by an exclusive ‘Shadowmaker Reconstructed Mix’ – a bold reimagining of the album tracks in a more club-friendly vein. While Shackleton’s emotive music is the heartbeat of the show, slivers of Gutek’s filmmaking add depth and soul. Using archival footage and intimate interviews, she chronicles Shackleton’s struggle to balance artistic ambition with life challenges, expectation and self-doubt. “Simon and I have been wanting to collaborate for some time, and The Shadowmaker is the perfect medium to merge our storytelling methods,” said Gutek. “Each of Simon’s tracks is rich with emotional depth and pairing them with his personal story magnifies the impact even further. While anchored to Simon’s experiences, this is a universal story of learning to navigate the emotional and psychological terrain that we’re often too afraid to share. Through this journey, we hope to inspire others to confront and embrace their own.” Delivering its powerful narrative to a global audience, Gutek’s full-length documentary will be submitted to film festivals after The Shadowmaker premiere in Denver, Colorado. Shackleton chose to debut the show in Denver after relocating to the area last year. He credits the wide-open spaces of Colorado for giving him the clarity to realign his creative vision. With a robust singles release schedule well underway, ‘The Shadowmaker’ album is set to drop on February 7. “With this album and show, I wanted to create something that not only pushes me creatively but also invites the audience into a deeply personal and immersive experience,” said Shackleton. “At a time when human connection is being severed by smartphones, The Shadowmaker invites us to connect through shared emotions, find beauty in our struggles, and ultimately celebrate the power of transformation.” Tickets for the world premiere of The Shadowmaker at Denver’s Holiday Theater are on sale now, starting at just $50 plus booking fee. A historical landmark originally built in 1914, the beautifully renovated 400-seat theatre, run by the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, is the perfect setting for this unique experience. 10. With his stunning new Transcendence EP including two very distinct but equally strong sounds—one track is to dance to, the other one to listen to— techno tastemaker Enrico Sangiuliano returns to his prominent NINETOZERO label. Tickets for a unique SOLO event in Milan on Saturday 21st December will help to promote the release. For the Italian underground hero, this new book ends an amazing year. Just a few months following his Interconnection EP and a packed run of headline events, it signals yet another subtle change in his always difficult-to-categorize sound. The EP is a joint effort with psychedelic trance master GMS, which has been making waves since the 1990s. The pair that won awards has dropped several essential albums and EPs and had their music featured in a trilogy of Tony Scott films. GMS and I met many years ago in their studio in Ibiza and spontaneously cemented our relationship through our passion for sound. They are a pillar of psytrance, and collaborating with them to interpret the concept of Transcendence was the perfect way for us to finally merge our creative visions. With this release, we transcend our individual musical paths to create something entirely new. We explore the theme of elevation, challenging ourselves to move beyond the tangible. Here, music becomes a portal, expanding consciousness and providing an escape from material reality. Together, we shaped our sounds to build an immersive experience, with a guiding voice to lead you through it. Transcendence is an invitation to let go, release mental constructs, and flow with the sound. It’s a journey into a timeless realm where what you feel and who you are become one. To transcend is to connect with your deepest self—and beyond. – Enrico Sangiuliano A sleek and futuristic soundscape with strong drumming that transports you up among the stars, superb opener “Transcendence” is Smart spoken lines give this most escapist music a theatrical feel; the smeared pads create a cosmic atmosphere; the luscious arps layer in lots of trance-tinged emotional impact. “The Inner World” then is a tense two-minute synthscape with sensible spoken phrases inspired on inner power. This is a stirring work of emotive electronic majesty. Another powerful declaration from Enrico Sangiuliano’s forward-looking creative imagination is the Transcendence EP. 16. Billboard is revamping its dance charts offerings in 2025 to better recognize the diverse sounds of our favorite genre. While the metrics for the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart will remain unchanged, starting on January 18, 2025 (which reflects activity from January 3-9, the first full week of the year), the eligibility criteria for songs debuting on the ranking will shift. Going forward, only tracks primarily created by DJs or producers with a focus on electronic-based production will qualify. This finally means all the pop songs that currently feature on the chart will be removed. The Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, which launched in January 2013, currently ranks the top 50 songs based on U.S. streaming (official audio and video), sales data, and radio airplay audience impressions. The chart uses data provided by Luminate, the independent analytics firm, and Mediabase, which tracks radio airplay. The sales component includes purchases of both physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers. Along with the updated Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, Billboard is introducing a new Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, which will rank the top 25 songs using the same multi-metric methodology. This new chart will feature tracks with dance-driven vocals, melodies, and hooks from artists who are not primarily known for their work in the dance/electronic genre. Songs co-billed to both a DJ/producer and a non-dance vocalist may be eligible for both the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Hot Dance/Pop Songs charts. 18. In a candid interview during his performance at Dreamstate SoCal 2024, trance icon Armin van Buuren delved into the transformation of the genre, his artistic journey, and the future of electronic music. As one of the most influential figures in the dance music world, Armin shared insights into how trance has evolved and how he continues to innovate within the ever-changing industry landscape. The Evolution of Trance Reflecting on trance music’s trajectory, Armin highlighted its adaptability over the years Trance has always been about emotion and connection, but the sound has diversified While some fans yearn for the classic uplifting melodies of the early 2000s, van Buuren has embraced a broader spectrum of styles, blending melodic elements with progressive, techno, and even house influences. “Genres are blending like never before,” he said. “For me, it’s not about sticking to one sound but creating moments that resonate universally.” Exploring New Directions As part of his forward-thinking approach, Armin spoke about his ongoing projects and how they reflect his desire to push creative boundaries. His recent work incorporates cutting-edge production techniques, collaborations with unexpected artists, and ventures into new genres while maintaining the emotional core that defines trance. I’m always looking to challenge myself..The future of dance music isn’t about labels—it’s about creating experiences that move people..as long as you go home to 138 and keep the melodic elements alive, I think there is more room now for experimentation and stepping outside the safe haven of trance than ever before. That is a good thing. It keeps things exciting for people. Checkout the full interview by our friends at We Rave You here. I will always play my classics, and there will always be uplifting tracks in my sets. I mean, I remember when minimal was hot, you know, with all the minimal percussion and minimal techno being big. And now, you have guys who are afraid to call their music trance, so they call it melodic techno, but I’m embracing that as well. I’m not bashing anyone because I understand it. Trance has a certain name. But really, what we’re talking about here is the power of melodies, the power of euphoria, and the power of emotions in music. That’s what we’re celebrating here at Dreamstate. The post Armin van Buuren Discusses Trance Evolution, New Horizons, and the Future of Dance Music appeared first on EDMTunes.

  24. Yesterday, we took a trip down memory lane to revisit our first-ever dubstep upload. Today, it’s all about the origins of our Music YouTube channel – and it begins with a bang: KOAN Sound’s remix of Skrillex’s ‘Kill Everybody’ As we count down to the grand finale of our UKF15 celebrations – a sold-out extravaganza at the mighty Drumsheds on December 13 – we’re having a quick catch up with KOAN Sound. Your remix of Skrillex’s ‘Kill Everybody’ was the first upload on our UK Music Channel 12 years ago, what have been some of the highlights of your musical journey since then? Since 2011 we’ve toured all over the world and have been able to travel to places we never thought we’d see. We’ve also released a lot of music, including our latest album which is a sprawling cinematic project based on a science fiction story that we wrote. One of the things we’re proudest of is maintaining our creative vision and integrity whilst continuing to experiment musically with every release. We’re fortunate that we’ve always had a really loyal fanbase that has supported our experimentation from the beginning. How has the dance music scene changed in the last 15 years? The origins of UKF were at a time when UK-driven electronic music was on the cusp of blowing up globally and commercially. Probably the biggest change we’ve seen over the past 15 years is the explosion of electronic music in America. Back in early 2012, when we did our first major tour of the US alongside Gemini, club culture and electronic music in general was not nearly as established compared to the UK. Contrast that to 2024, and venue infrastructure and production around the US has seen huge investments. Sound and sound-systems in particular are now prioritized much higher than they used to be. 15 years ago platforms like Facebook and YouTube were becoming ubiquitous, which resulted in music being able to spread much faster. Back then the blueprints of dubstep and drum & bass were already fairly well established, and I think some artists – ourselves included – were seeking to break out of those molds and experiment with less entrenched formulas. This is where we really started to see genre lines blurring and a lot more cross pollination taking place between different dance music styles and tempos. In general it feels like audiences are more musically open-minded nowadays because of that. The internet has exposed people to such a huge array of different types of music which feels really healthy. What does UKF represent to you? UKF represents a hub for discovering new music as well as providing a platform to promote artists that work within the lineage of UK electronic music. On a more personal note, UKF supported us from early on in our careers, and gave us a platform to promote our music. Big thanks to Luke and the whole team for all of their hard work over the years.
