  1. It’s hard to believe we’ve nearly breezed through a whole decade since 2015—an era that sparked an uproarious debate over the color of a viral dress, reignited the box office force with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and turned Drake's "Hotline Bling" into an inescapable meme. But through it all, one thing remains constant: the power of a great electronic track to capture a moment in time. In the spirit of nostalgia—and perhaps a mild existential crisis, if we're being honest—we're revisiting the most iconic dance music anthems that are turning 10 in 2025. Some fueled major festival rushes and topped global charts, others quietly reshaped the future by establishing the blueprint for breakout stars to come. All, however, set hearts and minds ablaze in their own way, making 2015 a year that bridged pop, dance, hip-hop and everything in-between. The Chainsmokers — Roses (feat. 3. Words by Ross Goldenberg and Zach Salafia. If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times: ISOxo and Knock2’s joint explosion over the past few years gives us a feeling parallel to that of a proud parent, and in 2024, our admiration grew tenfold. After closing the door on a momentous 2023 — capped off by the release of ISOxo’s debut album on top of their multi-night run at The Shrine — ISOxo and Knock2’s shared Dancing Astronaut 2024 Artist of the Year campaign was in motion just 16 days into the year. ISOKNOCK4 — the newest iteration of their back-to-back performances that originated in 2019 — was not only scheduled, it was happening at arguably the grandest setting in the live music space: Coachella. We could sit here and reminisce about every last detail from Polo Grounds for the next several hours, but we’ll just say that we had the pleasure of becoming a first-hand witness to the absolute bedlam that ensued under the Sahara Tent. Before the two would even travel out to the desert, though, ISOxo would add a debut album tour to his 2024 record. And although they had more than a few collective feats this year, both artists also held their own, individually topping festivals like Ultra, Electric Forest, and Lightning in a Bottle while bringing their ISOKNOCK branding to North Coast Music Festival and Ultra Japan. Shortly after his kidsgonemad (which would be later followed by a deluxe edition) tour, ISOxo would reunite with his San Diego counterpart to give those who couldn’t be at Coachella the opportunity to experience ISOKNOCK in Seattle, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Japan—their first-ever international date under the duo name—or ultimately during a homecoming weekend that requires its own section of this article. But that’s enough rambling about their live show conquests for the time being. A month after their ISOKNOCK excursion beneath a bridge in Brooklyn, ISOxo and Knock2 etched a chapter in trap’s history books with the deployment of “SMACK TALK.” Little did anyone know, ISOxo, Knock2, and RL Grime’s Ultra ID-turned-trap-anthem would be the first peek at 4EVR, an eight-part ISOKNOCK album that they would unsuspectingly set loose on streaming platforms in August, and a project that would earn a place among Dancing Astronaut’s Top Albums of 2024. Yet both ISOxo and Knock2’s comment sections — and even a few billboards around the city — were littered with one prevailing question: When were they coming home? They didn’t just answer it in early December — they wrote a love letter to the city of San Diego. ISOxo and Knock2 reimagined the outskirts of Snapdragon Stadium, hosting a weekend equipped with festival-grade production, an A-list undercard featuring RL Grime and Madeon, two rowdy ISOKNOCK showings, and a concluding reveal of their new event, Niteharts Fest, for 2025. The full-circle weekend felt like a definitive victory lap that further closed their case for Dancing Astronaut’s 2024 Artist of the Year crown. One would think that’s where their overarching argument comes to a finish, but it was not. Not long after their SD 4EVR blowout, Knock2 formally scheduled nolimit, his long-awaited, 17-track debut album, for the top of the new year. Of course, we have to take a brief moment to reflect on Dancing Astronaut‘s personal ride alongside ISOxo and Knock2. Watching the duo climb from Dancing Astronaut’s Artists to Watch in 2021 class to Breakout Artist of 2022, and now, to Artist of the Year, is what every music fan dreams of when discovering what they believe to be a soon-to-be superstar—or superstars in this case. Simply put, their chokehold on the scene deserves a standing ovation in and of itself. It’s what has truly set them apart from other acts in the dance scene, from their rockstar-like showmanship to the ceaseless energy of every crowd at every show, to their genre-blurring outputs to receiving the ultimate stamp of approval from their idols, like Skrillex, RL Grime, and Zedd. At every turn, they’ve managed to somehow one-up themselves, from their performance inside of a suspended shipping crane to their curation of a mini-festival for and within their hometown. This year, ISOxo and Knock2 elevated themselves even further, into a no-man’s-land-esque level of dominance that feels incomparable to anything we’ve seen in recent memory, and we’re recognizing their impact by bestowing upon them our highest honor. Congratulations to ISOxo and Knock2, Dancing Astronaut’s 2024 Artist of the Year. 5. Apple has once again proven its dominance in the tech industry with the staggering success of its AirPods. According to Bloomberg estimates, Apple generated a whopping $18 billion in revenue from AirPods sales in 2023. This figure surpasses the total revenue of popular companies like Spotify ($14B), Nintendo ($12B), eBay ($10B), and Intuit ($12B). The popularity of AirPods is undeniable, with the wireless earbuds holding a significant market share both in the US and globally. As we delve deeper into the world of AirPods, it becomes clear why Apple’s innovative product has captured the hearts of consumers worldwide. When you think of wireless earbuds, the first product that comes to mind for many people is Apple’s AirPods. These sleek, white earbuds have become a symbol of status and style, favored by celebrities, influencers, and everyday consumers alike. The convenience of the AirPods, with their seamless connectivity to Apple devices and impressive sound quality, has elevated them to the top of the wireless earbud market. As we explore the numbers behind AirPods sales and market share, it’s evident that Apple has created a product that resonates with a wide range of consumers. Looking ahead, analysts predict an even brighter future for Apple’s AirPods, with projections suggesting that they could generate a staggering $45 billion in annual revenue for the company by 2030. As we uncover the reasons behind the success of AirPods and their impact on the market, it becomes clear that Apple’s wireless earbuds are more than just a product—they’re a cultural phenomenon that has reshaped the way we listen to music and interact with our devices. Competition and Market Share While Apple’s AirPods dominate the wireless earbud market, they are not without competition. Brands like Sony, Samsung, BOSE, Sennheiser, LG, and Jabra have all entered the true wireless sound (TWS) segment, offering their own take on wireless earbuds with unique features and designs. Despite this, Apple’s AirPods continue to lead the pack, capturing a significant share of the market both in the US and globally. The company’s reputation for quality products and exceptional customer service has helped solidify AirPods as a top choice for consumers seeking wireless audio solutions. Additionally, Apple’s marketing prowess and retail presence have played a significant role in driving sales of AirPods, with the earbuds becoming a status symbol for tech-savvy individuals around the world. 7. "I didn't like having to be Avicii, and then having to be Tim." That heartbreaking line from Avicii captures the gnawing duality of the legendary DJ, who posthumously narrates his own tragic journey in the upcoming Netflix documentary Avicii – I’m Tim. Due out December 31st on Netflix, the film is set to release in tandem with Avicii – My Last Show, which revisits the night he graced the stage of Ibiza's storied Ushuaïa club for what would be his final performance. The prolific songwriter and dance music producer, whose real name was Tim Bergling, died by suicide less than two years later in 2018. "I was a lot happier before I was famous than after I was famous," Bergling says in the documentary, of which EDM.com viewed an advance screening. "I started feeling kind of very empty and unhappy. So I was just on autopilot mode. I started really f***ing wondering why I was feeling like this. I hadn't been honest to myself, what I was feeling... And my tempo also didn't really give me much time to explore it either." Many have spun the last vestiges of Avicii into multimedia experiences in the wake of his death, but none have achieved the level of intimacy as Avicii – I'm Tim. Director Henrik Burman said he absorbed "thousands of hours" of private archival footage, audio recordings and even ultrasound scans and babyhood memories captured on family VHS tapes, many of which appear in the film. Avicii making music on the go in a still image from the production of Netflix's upcoming documentary, "Avicii - I'm Tim."Netflix It's a poignant retrospective examining the gradual deterioration of a generational artist grappling with the unrelenting weight of the music industry's demands, and in desperate need of an escape. When Bergling's inner demons finally became too loud to ignore, his father Klas arranged an hours-long intervention attended by the DJ's siblings, friends and management team, he reveals in the film. His son was "furious" and refused to give in at first, but ultimately agreed it was time to change. "It was excruciatingly painful to see the look in his eyes," Klas recalled with a wince. Avicii's musical collaborators shared similar concerns at the time. It was agonizingly clear the haunting lyrics that now define his discography were a window into his soul as his struggles took a turn for the worse. Speaking in the documentary, Aloe Blacc ponders Avicii's state of mind when writing the first lines of their collaborative song "SOS," which ultimately appeared in 2019's posthumous album Tim. Exploring themes of persistent hope against despair, the lyrics ("Can you hear me? SOS / Help me put my mind to rest") left breadcrumbs of his inner turmoil that now reverberate with devastating clarity. "It seemed as though we had this call for help, and I'm receiving this letter from Tim way too late," said Blacc, who is also the featured voice in Avicii's most-streamed song, the timeless "Wake Me Up." The film also features interviews with David Guetta and Coldplay's Chris Martin, among various other Avicii collaborators, as well as his former manager Arash Pournouri, who played a pivotal role in his rise to fame. Avicii – I’m Tim will release on Netflix December 31st, 2024. You can watch the trailer below.

  9. Back in October, powerhouse music management company Prodigy Artists announced Eric Bindman as their new Director of Operations. Bindman, a seasoned industry veteran, has been an integral part of the Prodigy Artists team for over two years, serving as a Senior Manager for artists such as Audien, Elephante, Niiko x Swae, and Mattilo. With a 15-year career spanning talent buying, touring, publishing, marketing, and logistics, Eric is multi-faceted in all aspects of the industry. Prior to his tenure at Prodigy Artists, he tour managed renowned artists including Deorro, Two Friends, Gareth Emery, 3LAU, Vicetone, Yung Bae, and Haywyre. EDMTunes had the opportunity to speak to Eric and gather his insights on the industry, learn about his new role at Prodigy, and hear about what’s going on with some of the artists he manages. Congratulations on your promotion to Director of Operations! Can you tell us a bit about your journey at Prodigy Artists and what led to this promotion? Thank you! Absolutely; since I can remember I’ve always been very detail oriented. Originally I joined Prodigy Artists as a Senior Manager and I’m grateful for the founding partners’ trust in me to help run and scale the business. What got you into Electronic Dance Music in the first place? I got into Electronic Dance Music in University. I originally wanted to be a photographer growing up and I started touring with some friends who were musicians and covering events. That’s how I fell in love with the energy at the shows. There’s always this great collective energy and passion from the crowds that you can feel. In your new role as Director of Operations, what are your primary responsibilities and how do you plan to contribute to the agency’s continued growth? As I continue entering my new role as Director of Operations; I’m focused on supporting the future growth and expansion plans for the company as well as continuing to ensure that the resources we require are instilled. This means making sure Prodigy Artists’ artists and teams have the resources they need to operate and scale their own respective businesses. My focus is also the continued focus on scaling up operations and expanding the company’s reach. We have some really exciting signings that will be announced soon 🙂 What are the biggest challenges and opportunities facing talent management agencies today? How is Prodigy Artists positioned to navigate these challenges and capitalize on these opportunities? As the nightclub landscape changes and moves away from built-in club nights and protected evenings, artists have to evolve. Soft tickets are becoming harder by the quarter; so it’s that much more important to double down and develop your core fan base. The clubbing circuit is drastically changing, it’s important to build your hard ticket history. And here at Prodigy, we have been championing building hard ticket tours and helping acts build themselves in this new landscape. What is Prodigy Artists’ approach to artist development and how do you help your artists build their careers and achieve long-term success? At Prodigy we have a great team with the expertise to be nimble and resourceful to tackle any challenges that may arise. To ensure the long-term success of our artists, we support our clients through artist management, touring and event planning, publishing, social media marketing, accounting and financial management, and more. What are some wins you’re proud of that you’ve achieved with the prodigy artists that you manage? Some recent wins that I’m extremely excited about are our continued work on Audien, Elephante and NIIKO X SWAE. Audien is continuing to be the torch bearer with Progressive House Never Died and is working on some huge collaborations and some major headline touring wins in 2025. Elephante is also doing some amazing work and had his new album COPE just released to much fanfare and editorial support. What is your favorite moment so far from your time at Prodigy Artists? One of my favorite moments was the Prodigy Artists Miami Music Party from last year. It was a huge celebration of some of the great things our clients were doing at the time with many of the artists from our roster playing and industry friends gathering. That was also a special evening for me on the personal side – so all in all, it was a culmination of a ton of awesome things! What are some of your goals for 2025? (Can be both personally or professionally at Prodigy Artists) I would say my main goals are to continue the successes and momentum from this past year. I look forward to honing in on building my business and of course continuing to support the future growth and expansion plans for Prodigy Artists, especially in this new role. What exciting plans do your artists have coming up in 2025 that you can share? There are a lot of exciting plans with our artists! As I mentioned, Audien has so many big shows coming up for his 2025. Elephante looks to continue his vision and mission of providing a platform for the AAPI community through his music as well as the debut of his live tour in Q1. There’s a ton of exciting things in the works that I also can’t divulge! 21. The EDM community has proven, time and time again, that truth doesn't just rival fiction—it remixes it into something much wilder. Redefining weird in the best possible way, we danced our way through a year of improbable moments that seemed too outlandish to be true—but somehow were. Though at times tough to believe, they remind us that the line between performance art and unintentional comedy in the EDM world remains delightfully blurry. From robot sex music videos to mosh pit diapers to Rebecca Black's Boiler Room DJ set, the scene once again proved it thrives on the unexpected. As we turn the page on another year, read on to discover 24 of the most absurd stories that actually happened in 2024. A Swedish festival built an "IVF stage" to play headliners' music for unfertilized embryosProspective attendees of August's Way Out West Festival, in the form of sperm and eggs, were incubated to the sounds of the event's headliners, including Fred again.. and Peggy Gou. In collaboration with the renowned designer Love Hultén, the festival developed a miniature "Future Fan Stage" at an IVF clinic in Stockholm. This year, we've added an additional stage to help create future fans of great music by 'injecting' live recordings by the headlining artists into their DNA at the earliest stage possible—before they even develop into fetuses," Way Out West's organizers said at the time. In 2024, you could buy the look of a seasoned raver without ever having to endure fan-clackers or "woo-woo" chants, thanks to Balenciaga. The glitterati reared its ugly head back in July, when the brand released a "Raver Bracelet" at the astounding price of €3,500 (roughly $3,789 USD). Where haute couture meets dumpster dive, this overpriced piece of wrist candy is distressed "to imbue it with a worn and aged look" as if you've been marinating in sweat, glitter and questionable life choices at EDC. For the price of a trip to Europe, you too can sport this scrap of fabric, which featured in Balenciaga's Autumn/Winter 2024 catalog and also came in a virtually indistinguishable version with metallic threading for €4,500. Spotify execs cashed out the same amount of money it would take an artist 314 billion streams to makeSpotify executives reportedly cashed out over $1.1 billion in company stock in 2024, a figure that would take artists an astronomical 314 billion streams to match through royalties. That's according to Music Business Worldwide founder Tim Ingham, who bemoaned the disparity after the outlet reported Spotify CEO Daniel Ek sold 875,000 shares of Spotify for a total of $283 million this year. That figure pales in comparison to the cash amassed by Ek's co-founder, Spotify ex-Chairman Martin Lorentzon, who sold 1,488,364 shares for a staggering $556.77 million. The numbers underscored the ongoing tension between Spotify and musicians, who have long argued that the streaming giant's compensation structure is fundamentally broken as they struggle to earn a living wage from the royalties generated by their music. Someone developed technology that lets plants play music with bionic armsThe far-fetched concept of plants performing live music became a reality in April, thanks to the Manchester-based duo Bionic and the Wires. Their inventive apparatus equips plants with bionic arms, enabling them to produce music from a traditional steel handpan drum and even a violin. At the core of their performance, the duo uses sensors attached to the plant's leaves to detect bio-signals generated during photosynthesis. The signals are then converted into electrical inputs that power the robotic limbs, enabling the plant to interact with musical instruments. Those iPhone ringtones? Self-driving cars stalled and blocked traffic out of Portola FestivalThe future of transportation hit a speed bump in late-September, when a handful of Google's self-driving Waymo vehicles malfunctioned and blocked traffic outside San Francisco's Portola Music Festival. The company, which is considered among the world's preeminent autonomous vehicle companies, uses a combination of AI, lidar and machine learning to navigate city streets. One irate attendee couldn't care less, urging Portola's organizers, Goldenvoice, to ban Waymo from the festival's grounds in a contentious Reddit thread. On our way out of @PortolaFestival we got mega stuck behind two confused @Waymo cars. Thanks guys, great work letting them loose when there’s a major music festival going on in the city ❤️ pic.twitter.com/39TBSQuVh5 — Nima (@heythereitsnima) September 29, 2024 A GoFundMe campaign raised over $500 to replace DJ decks drenched in urineAfter a DJ's decks were "soaked in pee" during a party, he launched a GoFundMe to replace the damaged equipment. 25. Massimo Logli‘s rise has been nothing short of meteoric, with recent gigs and festival appearances putting him on the radar of techno purists and mainstream audiences alike. This year he has rocked crowds at some of Italy’s biggest events, including Resonance, Sonar Festival and Decibel Open Air, and has played iconic clubs like Cocoricò and Bolgia. His forthcoming album ‘Origins’ promises to cement his status as one of the most exciting talents emerging from Italy. If you had to describe Origins with a single emotion or state of mind, what would it be and why? The greatest emotion is the happiness of playing a track I created and seeing it appreciated by the people on the dance floor. How does your creative process differ when working on an album compared to producing single tracks? A single track is a moment. An album is a journey, a process that takes months. Have non-musical elements—like films, books, or personal experiences—influenced Origins? I don’t know where the sounds in my head come from when I create a track. Certainly from years and years of listening. Hans Zimmer has definitely influenced me. You’ve shared the stage with some of the biggest names in techno including Rainer Zonneveld, Charlotte De Witte to name but a few. Have any of those experiences directly inspired moments in Origins? Honestly, every artist I’ve opened for has influenced me. One more than others? Sam Paganini. If someone listens to Origins in 10 years, what do you hope they take away from it? It’s not a pop album that will go down in music history, but I hope it can inspire future generations to experiment. Was there a particular track on the album that was especially difficult to complete? What made it so challenging? All of them were difficult, but Open Wide, which is basically Wide Open by DJ Hyperactive from 1998 completely reworked, was truly tough. What role does nostalgia play in your music, and how do you balance it with innovation? It’s very simple, at least for me. At my age, memories blend with current sounds, and that’s how new tracks are born, deeply connected to my musical history. What advice would you give to someone listening to Origins for the first time? Absorb the sounds of the past in these tracks. The past always comes back.
